001it's 5:38 sites and Facilities June 17th we're gonna I'm going to move it right over to Mike because we have a one important item on our agenda so let's get going thanks all right so uh thank you all for making time even though school is out uh we still have official business here before the board so the big item on tonight's agenda one item is going to be the naming of the new facility at the former ctis now there's actually two names that we need to consider uh one is the school itself and two is the sort of Campus the larger site the complex that is there so we have a couple ideas that have been sort of bounced around this came up once before a little over a month ago um and when this
002body agreed on it it went through to full board but the the full board couldn't come to an agreement on it so now it's come back to us again so we're hoping that this time when we uh come up with the name it will go board on Thursday and uh we'll be able to submit this all up to the state make sure it's there in time for our sign to get built um we are really up against it here if we don't get this in we won't have sign the credit will be Pennies on the dollar which means we may not get to sign for a very long time or it will be a very cheap sign so um Cara can I throw it to you for some recommendations sure thanks mikee um and again
003just uh just to reiterate that the the the sign the sign package is included in the the overall project so it behooves us to to to stay within the the project guidelines um so the the two the two names that we hope go forward um so for the site itself which is the um the Dual building of the high school in the Board of Ed as well as potentially some other areas that could you know be in development in that area so we've all heard that there's I think we have first right of refusal for the hologic building that's a little bit further down the hill um and there's some space back there that has still some potential to be developed so um with that in mind with that growth in mind and with already
004the two different programs that are housed on the site we'd like to call um the site the Danberry Public Schools education complex which opens up to a broad a more broad um use and signals as to what the site or the campus is used for and on the second portion I know that has been a little bit more uh tossed around a bit um but there's been some very strong recommendations to continue to have Danbury High School West Campus so Dany High School main campus which everyone is very familiar with and then on the west side of town the West the west campus um but we tossed around the idea that we would just call Dy high school and we'd have the address um it was Antonio or Dan or one of the Architects said
005that the GPS direction fin it's very important to make sure that we have a clear distinction in the title um West and Maine or or you know Maine and something else so that people don't get lost especially when visiting the school so the two names stanbury uh Public Schools education complex for the site and deny High School West Campus for the High School portion of that site turn it over to the Dan do you want to give us your uh I just seen a lot of confusion is where I'm coming from from the school side when uh even now when we look at the plans the paperwork the the illustrations of the architect comes out it still says dan Career Academy on it and immediately makes people think that that's the Career Academy and it's
006that Stanford high school and there my biggest fear as I've said before is as the principal of the building is going to be how are they not separate trying to keep them under one we were all at that graduation the other night and that was one high school graduating you know and when we graduate even though that other building is still going it's going to be under at that place under D high school so to me keeping a name that may seem silly but just to keep a name that keeps them connected those two buildings connected is very important I think it leads a lot to keeping it as one place and as we get better at this I'm hoping that travel back and forth and classes on one and the other will start seamlessly
007work a little bit better it'll take us quite a few I think years to get there uh but that those are my really good concerns thank you do we have any questions from committee members so um are these two separate motions that you're bringing for two correct vote on both correct one would be the complex and one would be the building than don't building itself I mean a little bit fuzzy the complex you want to refer to it as the Public School Educational complex right it's in move of something like is on clap for bridge what is the the second one is that more of a directory type yeah so so the sign the complex the educational complex sign will be down towards the bottom of the hill so when you go down um if
008you've ever been up to the site it' be great to get everybody up there to go visit but if um at the bottom of the site where the entrance is that's where that educational complex um signage would go when you get up to the actual site um well there's going to be a Boe side to the building that'll have a board of education um signed which that's has not been in question so that's kind of a no-brainer but on the high school side of the building with those High School entrances that's the portion where we'd like to say deny High school-west campus so you'll have a board of ed and you'll have the deny High School West Campus but the but the the site in totality and anything else that any future developments would you
009call the deny de book schools education complex sorry are we look at the the U on the turn appd when you have the the complex sign will there be another l of the the high school the B bed or whatever else you so I don't think so on that initial sign um I think that that would come I think there's room for that underneath so we could put like the you know whatever goes in underneath that over time but the original the big big expensive sign is the the big one that we're looking and I do not believe the logic and then they still going to be underneath like they'll still be on the same picture you know like Square Mall it's got square and listed underneath everything on it this would be D educational
010complex and then H would be down there D High School West danur Board of Education and car mentioned if you you know get another building because theic leaves and D decides they want that for whatever D Public Works D whatever would all be but the top name will be Danberry public school public school educ [Music] complex Al I think the con if you if you go to bethle public schools down at the bottom they have Beth I think Beth schools complex or something to that sort so when you take that driveway you know you're going into the school into the schools and then as you go up the driveway their main road they have either the elementary school middle school and the high school top okay so I think that I I'm okay with that
011and that perspective from the road sign on kosha what I still still own by the Westside DHS wests side okay and the reason is that there are a lot of people in this community don't don't even know where Westside Middle School is located they know it's on West Side not really weird okay so if we're going to name VHS West campus I'd rather go with DHS Kenosha campus Because know everybody knows that it's down on the kosha area and becomes more specific to the location Terry um thank you for letting me talk um first of all there's another consideration uh based on my years at Westcom being two campuses all the mail was directed to the Main Street campus is that something what you're going to consider I mean just thinking down the road and
012then the other other thing the main sign um I don't like so much the public education D public educ I like the de Education Center in that way you could call it the deck you know go to the deck Center as opposed to like even um uh Dan was calling it the education center we don't really need public Dan public education center I just like the shorten version you know Danbury education center and call it the de campus or whatever but as far as the building goes yeah that could be up for grabs anybody else [Music] I'd like that I guess I'm approaching it from a perspective of like how do we keep this simple I don't want to make things complicated I know that folks have expressed confusion like you talked about Al but
013I also think like part of that is just people getting used to something new um you know we've had changes with locations or the names and things before there's always a period of transition and so I wouldn't want to make a decision based on what people's immediate reaction is going to be but rather like down the line um I guess I'm looking at Westcon they have a Midtown campus and they have a Westside campus so that's sort of like the thought I have in my head about it I think when we start to get specific with labels although I understand in the immediate that's helpful for people to identify I'm not sure like to me just the same way and maybe that's just my own bias and my experience with Westcon that's kind of leading
014into this but that's sort of where I'm going for a moment um you know as far as the complex is concerned you know I don't really have a problem with name you know I understand where you're coming from on that Terry but um you know I think it's possible also to have name like that that's appli to it even though the formal name on the sign might look different just also something for us to consider is that you know sometimes these things happen like we call this place be Brook we don't call it the beook administrative Center um and sometimes we just call offices or central office um so those are just some things for to keep in mind that you know we're choosing a name but um what's the expression that Rose by Any
015their name would smell just sweet um I kind of feel like you know if our if our school leadership is coming forward with these names um you know I'm inclined to you this particular issue I just see it [Music] deal the first motion you know I mind the second one the only thing I'm that adverse to what you have it's just that all of our other schools are named after streets it it might be approp appropriate to to keep in here or to consider the Danbury High School appleid Road campus or something like that um it just keeps the continuity of all of the other schools that we have that are referred to by the locations that we have but I would go with both it's not that important to me to waste that's a
016good one art art campus appleid Apple Ridge Road campus Ark you know believe in the I'm think I'm not I'm not that creative I I just thought you know to keep the continuity may want to consider that my quick thought is and I know that we have been talking about uh naming the school for quite a while in meetings and I think we have to not patch this but we have to move on the procedures I'm comfortable with you know gamb Public Schools education come as I go to the men specialist weeks and weeks after weeks and I go to these big building and they tell me to come to building number two on this Stree and then when I get there down in the lobby or before I get to the lobby it said
017go a this is where you go B is what and this is what I'm sort of looking at okay as for as naming this then Public Schools I would want to take public schools out of it because we are supporting D public schools and that's the way I'm doing that the second motion I'm comfortable with that Dan High School Westside campus okay just west just west whatever so I'm comfortable with moving forward to much and that's all that I have to say anybody else kosha did come up a couple times too again I I just it's nothing against the west side you you know I'm more of a more specific and and you know as another issue when I talk about Administration when we get to that but that's a different story but right now
018for for the name I I still find that you know even when I was working at the in a courthouse there are and I knew damri pretty well and there were certain areas I just didn't know okay but somebody said well so off Kos now I know where to go to Direction that's why you know so yeah West Side got it but we still got to find follow the question where on West Side is it located then you're going to say apple whatever it is where is that but if you say it's off kosan on kosan it's not on Kos yes it's not on kosan but the entrance to the school is going to be off Kos the actual address is out the I I understand it but you still got to travel on kosha
019to get there if you say West Side what part of West Side am I going to I'm just saying you having a conversation understand I just think high school has no it's not D school on Ridge it's not D High School on Main Street off just Broad View is on house I got that's like the part I worried about when you start talking about roads it's not off it's not off you still have to find the sign up but you see the sign it says D Public Schools complex you know that's going to be right there and and if the if there's going to be a sign that says dem Public Schools education complex or or Dem Public Schools complex whatever you want to call it I'm okay with that whatever the name is underneath
020somewhere is going to say demy high school but still people are going to say Where's that where is the complex at no you know I just think it's it's important you know obviously to be unanimous we got here last time and everybody felt pretty good about it then we got to the the larger board meeting and it kind of fell apart so um you know I I whatever we decide is is fine I as long as I think we move together in unison so that we can move this forward for for Thursday because it is the timing is eminent it's a costly expense if we were to not move forward with it and we be left holding the back on the expens on our own so good again uh at Westcon things uh programs on
021the westside campus were confused uh with the main campus vice versa people were unsure because they used the address on Main Street and that was a problem they didn't have separate addresses so that was another conflict with two a dual Camp it was hard it was the only uh University with the Dual campus at the time okay so why don't we okay address I don't see all the M coming to high school if it does like it'll have its own address you know I'm just saying this is what they experien I didn't know something to consider going forward uh the problem with using just one address it was good in one way but tough in the other cuz people got confused yeah we would use two addresses and something got sent to us at high
022school that had to go over there we put the carer is it possible I mean it sounds like we're all in agreement with the first motion yeah with regard to the second is it possible that we come up with three variations see what the general feeling is on on that and just get it done tonight I mean there's one position is koser I made a recommendation that you call it the Apple rge the Apple and you can leave it at as such and just see how many people favor each one and go with that all right well let's if we're all good with the first motion why don't we move forward with at least the complex and get that off the table Apple Bridge Ro D Public Schools education complex Apple Bridge [Music] Road I'm
