sites and facility um take minutes for us um so I'm going to turn it right over to car okay take this sure so um and thank you de for being here um so today is really just to follow up on the LA from the last uh meeting that we had where we spoke about sort of the proposed changes for DCA um some of the C savings involved of course that that we sort some of the Genesis up for the changes um kind of happened very quickly there's a small window with which to make um substantive changes to construction design so we kind of did take advantage of that and you guys have been absolutely amazing with responsiveness and pushing me back and forth and it's been a great been a great team effort and keeping

on track so um I just wanted to remind folks because I think there was a little confusion on this last time a bit or just um you know I was saying I think maybe not even confusion but I need to take for granted the fact that some of your original presentation around the academy and its original design happened with with different groups of board members over time and so not everybody has had the benefit of having those deeper conversations especially those initial ones so this was the original um plan planogram and if you look at the west campus we had twoy set aside we wanted to blow out if you look at the lower left quadrant the Environmental Conservation renewable energy we have a whole Greenhouse over there that was a big um piece to

get that in was a really important component but we didn't have enough slots if you will the number of kids to actually have that be its own Academy but that's a high Dan um that's a pretty that was a pretty dense one so much so that we wanted to have that that beautiful Greenhouse in there and we had some plans for that um but as you can see that Environmental Conservation and renewable energy uh in that column under the emerging Technologies and it doesn't really fit in that was its own kind of a hanging chad in the business sector if you will so in the when their opportunity came to make some changes um and then to make it a complete high school campus we took that last um that last one and turned it

into its own Academy which was kind of on the on Deck um one of the one of the the ideas and there was definitely some more but that was one um that was a real one that we lamented that we wish we could have more slots in so that renewable energy turns into now three Pathways it's very dense so it's certainly enough in there to um interest three different different different U Avenues in that area it's extraordinarily um prosperous area if you will in terms of the the research and where kind of 21st century jobs are headed this is one huge sector um it's being funded um across the country quite well it's um an area that we can also harness in terms of um funding and and grants um and also too A lot

of the emerging jobs are also in sector so you talk about AI technology talkability those it's a very very hot um hot area there's a lot of jobs but not a lot of uh training and interest in those so um we're super excited about that um so that's what it looks like when um it's together in sort of the new in the new model that's what we embedded into the attach packet into your agenda um Michelle you were just walking in my te just go back one that's okay just to catch you up so this is the original proposed you see the Environmental Conservation and renewable energy was one of the pathways and that was sort of one that we was kind of hanging out by itself in the business and so that just becomes

its own Academy so that's kind of where but that was one of the original original designs um in terms of the summary of changes and so what we had to do is we had to go back in and say okay on the Middle School side of the house we had these labs and science areas how do we then retrofit um the Middle School space to now serve the needs of the labs and so the way that we did designed the labs the first time it was what are the needs of the labs what will kids be doing in these labs and me how do you design a great learning space to match um pedagogical needs and the pathway interests and so um with a lot of back and forth and a lot of wonderful collaboration

um we made some design plan changes uh with the support of uh frier Architects and of course the city city Partners um and then our own internal knowledge about the curricular type of uh programming that that we hope to have those in those areas so that's it's okay so um so here's where the changes were and this again predominantly the Middle School area that's converted to high school so on floor two and the numbers are IR relevant for you you know most likely but um we took the old band room it's now the clean and renewable energy demonstration lab that was one of the larger rooms that would have the most equipment in it and so we kind of made some decisions around making sure that the larger band room and how it was was

la out would able be able to house um some of the some of the training equipment that we want to see in there room 207 which was an instrument storage room sort of nearby was now going to be clean and renewable energy 255 was an art room which will be clean and renewable classroom kind of you know there's a storage in the classroom 235 was an old art room will now be the high school digital art so it's still serving art but just configured her high school we and we named 242 and 237 were the maker spaces so the Middle School side originally had design maker spaces in there so they didn't have um necessarily Academy pathway Labs but they had maker spaces for design seem to be a design design Concept in there so

those have been converted and we opened it up a little bit so there's some more flow through which was a great idea um to get that in there and that will be used for the green design and environmental stealership lab and then c206 which was a just a classroom will be used for Z space lab the space labs are probably the coolest thing that you'll ever see and at some point we we get into kind of sh what those look like but they're It's a Wonderful it's a it's kind of a it's like a computer but it's it has the ability to almost 3D hologram out components so if you're talking about a wind turbine and you want to understand how the inner all the inner pieces work you can you can air air it

out and move pieces in and change propulsion and that's what call it uh it's going to be the Iron Man lab but the zspace lab has you can program almost anything in it so any kind of um high tech thing where it might not be practical to have um a 16-year-old working on some type of equipment but certainly in a in a simulation environment like a a simulation environment you can do things and get good simulation hours and training and um so that's a whole another love to talk more about that simpli but that's going to be a zace lab and anybody can use that from any of the C um yes these changes you're talking about are they design changes or they construction and renovation in other words has been established and has to

be yes knocked down and then redesigned and reconstructed great question so most of these are just their their changes in terms of what the space will be used for and there's some some minor modifications like we had to you know cut the best person to speak to this but where we said okay you know we just open this wall a little bit this would this this would flow into that room and that would make sense um in some cases it was going through to check to make sure that all right if if this is a classroom um and now it's going to be used for more of a lab does it have the appropriate uh um School electrical storage you know what are the what what are the what does the space demand and do

we have that in there so I don't think that there were a lot of I think you spoke pretty well and we all kind of had that in mind because of the unique position that we're currently building this building as we speak we're not just moving lines on paper um Anda and her team and principal Donan they really kind of understood that this is repurposing space and a lot of those things are currently um under review and in evaluation with our design team now just to ensure that as K said the building infrastructure that needs to be there to support these spes to lab is in there um and fortunately I think I think we'll be in pretty good shape because these were maker spaces these were design spaces these were science labs um so

for the most part um you know trying to mitigate cost impact is is is is U critical for us and um also providing um you know these great spaces for students so across aerial effect on any of the construction cost we we are mitigating that as much as as I said the building is being constructed currently um we haven't formally uh since these Ed specs haven't yet been approved formally approved by the board of that we haven't been able to formally direct our construction manager um to and designer to uh start formal design here um but knowing that it's coming we have been able to redirect some work some you know construction Crews from an area that we know will be affected so that they get too far ahead of us so that we can

still have that opportunity to implement any changes without having to go back and uh rework demolish new walls things like that so to the most exent Poss thank you so um I'm going to go back to question what is the it's being evaluated we're we're too early [Music] to but we're voting to approve we're right well I I believe the motion is to uh recommend for the approval of the edtec which is the programmatic CH so the edpc doesn't really have any budget or cost associated with it it's primarily the program and curriculum that's going to be used from these okay so tonight has nothing to do with cost okay anybody else that's pretty much it you know the summary of the of the room changes on the the actual plan Ram so look at

the plans again at the point you notice that those things are changed um third oh third floor sorry get to third floor um okay thank you so on floor three so similar pattern an old older science lab um is now going to be used for sustainable food and living um room c311 which is another science prep room will now be used for aquaponics lab um which is very cool so some of that sustainable living piece it's um it's aquaponic if you've ever seen it it's uh it basically looks like a big fish tank but the way that you can um so the fish survive and thrive feeding off of what's growing on top of it which is also edible so um it's almost like it's not Hydroponics it's aquaponics and so it's a compl living

system which is um something that's that is growing right now but it also teaches the students about um there's nutrition there's aqu Aqua um acquisation there's all kinds of um interesting science con Concepts in there uh for the students and that going to be a huge huge room because they're very heavy and that was something we had to come around with with our um you know the floor design to make sure that we're not putting something in it that's too heavy but just enough to for the kids to understand the concept of how how big is a t 500 a gallon so you know like something like the size but you know like that and you could grow things on top of it so the the fish um living and eating and wasting are is

the fertilizer so it's table you guys to come and eat and then you know gives off own carbon dioxide self sustaining once you have the tank and 500 reinforcement FL correct okay thank I think we put a drain make sure that there was a room with a drain in it that smart yeah uh and then the um 315 which was an old it room the small room is now going to be part of a prep room for the aquatonic lab so be able to store some of the supplies and and stuff so um so not a terrible amount of of changes but um we did have to work through you know re looking at the floor plan and and uh the flow traffic and kids and supervision and which rooms would be the best would

have the least amount of changes um as the mention things are already on the move so it's just really about rearranging the furniture a little bit question recap maybe can help me out what differences would this facility have or not have at has as a case in point we talked about an auditorium or something else a gy is there anything that wouldn't be in this facility that we have in the other facility sure in uh over there we do not have an auditorium we have a black box uh shaped a little differently than our current one it's on both sides but there is no Auditorium there is one say over there over there academ the um we do have there will be a gym there there's also two Fitness rooms that um when discussing Sports

Performance are more like yoga and bicycle Studios so you can take PE classes there um other than that there's no outside facilities there's no Fields there's no like you know basketball courts or anything like that yeah there's no track there's nothing like that locker rooms yeah there's two locker rooms that kids for changing yeah but they're not team rooms there's nothing like that so Athletics of sports would be the largest drawback where say deficit in terms to be compatible or not compatible yeah and you know the current plan right now is to send X amount of buses over there every day and they drop off at dber high school because we generally don't start practices because our teachers don't get out until 2:20 from wraparound time so by the time those buses lead the two

they'll be at D High School by 220 and practices go on the play the band all that stuff thank you it it also this also helps us on supervision big time because I remember you know we first started this one of the huge issues we all talked about with the you know having uh basically Middle School and High School in the same facility dis alleviates that all the things that we were looking at for doorways and is this locking and this can't go through the nurse office now can be one nurse office things like that running I'm not saluting I'm just trying to BL that's a great salute that's a great salute you just have to bring your thumb inside know that's [Laughter] not so original plan was in the first iteration there was a

going to be a th students 1100 students on the side and then 360 so now that's combined so it's like [Music] 140 L can I propose that some future date that we budget for the Academy the only one we had or I had it's the one that was a couple of years ago so you're kind of morphing into another another item so um the last time we were here actually requested to see some more the details behind the some of the the savings the C savings so we we have that um but it's almost I'm afraid to even really go through because the with the budget and how we just you know with the Staffing it's almost not say relevant but it has to be redone and for example even in even in we originally

doing the cost savings you know we had in there five guidance counselors I'll use that as an example but we've been hiring since we first pass U created that budget we've been hiring a little bit over time so I don't know if we'll need five we might need three um so and same thing with some of the other Staffing so I think we can actually win on some of the Staffing and certainly heading into next some is Staffing for this year is going to go a long way to helping make that weak um for 20 certainly early next year you should have a better idea I think yeah sooner than that I just think that we got to once this we nail the rest put the operational correct important to nail it yeah at it

and just dotion make a motion that the sites and Facilities committee recommend to the Board of Education approval of the education specifications dated May 22nd 2024 of the danur Career Academy project a second no by second by all any discussion all in favor number uh so Cara just mentioned the the Staffing projections we're sort of in a hold on that until we get a more solid Baseline um we should have something probably in the next month or two I think so yeah and we're like I said we're expecting a little bit more cost which just we didn't want to not address it today because we you know folks did asked for it and we do have some of the documents we want to look at it but I I wouldn't they don't hold water to

them because because they and then the last item is just um some hand dryers at DHS um we learned that there are some problems with some paper towels some hand dryers so rich and I have U pulled some quotes on Dyson hand dryers depending on which model and how they get hooked up and whether there's electric electricity already in place could be anywhere from 500 to ,000 per unit so we're going to be going around the high school identifying ones that need to be upgraded some of them have a good accelerator some of them have a little bit more Antiquated ones so we're going to do a um a little bit of an analysis and come up with a quote of what that would cost so like I said we're looking at you know if

you were to do the whole High School it would probably be about $20,000 but I don't think we're going to have to do the whole school how many we want we said what did we say 40 40 yeah yeah I went to the ladi's room by the auditorium washed my hands and there was no paper towel and the young lady goes there's never paper towels that was just shocked yeah well the we purposely put hand dryers in a lot of the gang style bathrooms as opposed to paper towels because they end up getting stuff down the toilet and we had toilets CL so that's what we fight with yeah I I'm also partial hand towel but U the new hand dri no it was just it it didn't have a hand dryer so I was

just that's a great idea yeah wonderful idea so we'll we'll have more on that as we complete the uh the inspection that's it anything else any other questions anybody Terry I I was reading about the HVAC Grant we got $188,000 I think it's a little bit more than that but yeah that's what uh that's the word we've gotten I don't believe it's official yet we haven't gotten the official statement but we've gotten word from the state that we will be be getting that money back for reimbursement from what we spent on air purifiers over the last few years thank you is that what was expected yes anything anything else I have a motion to adjourn I'll make a motion to adjourn word
