to order uh the first order of business is to selection of a chairperson for uh the um hold on selection of the chairperson for the community relation committee are there any nomination for the office of chairperson nomination motion made by nomination made by a Rich chanell made the second motion okay wait a minute who made the motion jelli who okay and who second motion Al okay thank you Al okay okay uh all those in favor of Kate becoming the uh chairperson of the community relation committee could I hear I I I motion so carried at this time I turn the committee over to Kate and thank you all for coming uh thank you glattus and uh uh thanks again for for your vote I appreciate it um so this is just a quick meeting uh
we wanted to get a chair in place uh you know as quick as we can uh so we can move forward um we work with uh Dr selig and Dr me primarily as liaison for this committee um and uh you know it's a little bit more fluid of a a committee than some of the others in that we don't necessarily have the same the same specific things that we're working on um from from year to year it really depends on what the drive is of of the particular committee and the folks who are on it so um with that I'm going to turn the meeting over to uh Dr selig and Dr me to sure to give us uh an overview of the upcoming community events which is what's on the agenda this evening as
well as an update on the budget process thank you so much for having for being here thank you Kate congratulations um can I'm sorry can I just interrupt Kate sure do we have a secretary for this meeting uh we do not I don't know if anybody's taken minutes um Lauren are you voling I well yes I've already started taking minutes but I just wanted to sure nobody else was thank you so much I appreciate it you're welcome you're welcome thank you um just two quick items on the agenda the first is just an overview of some upcoming community events uh and me will talk through those in a second and then we're just going to give a real quick update on the budget process um I know everybody here is is uh well uh well
informed about the budget and what's coming up um but we'll just do a quick review for anyone else who may be listening so um and you want to just give a quick update on what's Happening um in our our Outreach community outreach office great great thank you welcome aboard congratulations Kate good to see everyone's face tonight so I'm working off of two computers tonight because we have on my left computer our parent supporting educational Excellence Workshop going on it started last Tuesday night with about 12 parents I think we'll have some more that will join um as the training goes on and so it's virtual tonight we go between virtual and um in person uh Dr car casmiro will be at one of the sessions the group as part of the curriculum we'll be coming
to the board meeting um at the end of February I believe it is or might be the end of March and so we're excited about that um we also have partnered very closely with the uh Adult Ed we race and have many different workshops going on all over the place but our partnership is with those that are happening at the Ellsworth building so there's epap which is uh people uh empowering people along with ESL classes that happens there three nights a week um child care and dinner is provided and and that's just an absolute awesome group and then in two three weeks two weeks I guess it is we'll kick off a new what we call Family literacy program at Moore Street school and that will involve um starting off with dinner for the families
then we'll work towards um bringing in some literacy and math coordinators for them to talk to the parents about um strategies they can use at home then the children will join us back in that group and we'll do a parent and teacher time together and then followed by uh child care where the the kids go off and do their things and the parents will get an hour and a half at ESL service we've had that model at Ellsworth school or not Ellsworth at Mo Street in previous years really excited to bring that back coming up uh to know on all your calendars is Our Family University and early childhood Fair on Saturday March 23rd uh normally those are two different events happening on different days and the fam said can't you combine this on one
day so we can get some really good workshops that the kids can do things and then bring in all your vendors um so we'll start with breakfast at 8:30 followed by um some type of Kyo opening at 9: and then parents uh will go into workshops from 9: 30 to 11 uh one of the feedback that we had receiv received from last our last two family universities is that parents wanted a longer Workshop than just the 45 minutes or the hour so we moved it up to um an hour and a half or 90 minutes so um they will have that and then the re while we're out of the cafeteria the about 40 to 50 vendors will come in and set up tables um mini polar from action Early Learning is working with with
us and she's shairing that part of the um event that day and normally we see between 400 and 600 families that come out to that that will go to one o'clock and that's all types of resources that families can use from Early Childhood programs to um you know Extended Learning programs summer programs other programs that uh parents and students can take advantage of as well as um some Mental Health Providers and then all of our uh Community Action providers in uh Danbury as well so we're excited about that day um and so that's what's going on right now um we continue to register students we continue to um reach out to families having families come to the center um as many of you know that we are a center that um families feel safe at
so they come out with any type of problems or needs that they have so we we definitely work with them through that we also uh partner with the Richfield VNA that's ongoing we had a clinic two weeks ago we have a clinic going this week um we saw 15 children two weeks ago I think we 15 or 17 children this week so there are new enroles to danber public schools um that don't necessarily have health insurance and so with our partnership with Richfield VNA Health they provide the service through their private um and public donations that they receive to service our children get them vaccinated full physical so they can start school um within you know usually a two week time so so that's it on that's it on our end is that [Music] all
and a couple other things that have going on too but and thank you you always have such exciting stuff happening over it is really cool it is really please come we'll do some type of open house for the board too um remembers um when Dr cronin's up and going again we'll do some type of open house again but feel free at any point to come out and visit the center um I guess I should just really really quickly um mention that the collective impact is up and goinging our new director Melissa hanquin um that was hired um from United Way which is our backbone organization um is doing a a superb job at leading us through uh the collective impact and the work groups um of chronic absenteeism and learner engagement mental health and then
the Early Childhood group are often running um at our chronic absenteeism were're uh subgroup last week we had 20 20 participants including more families so we're really excited to um see that so um save the date of March 12th it's a evening event 5:30 to 7:30 I believe at Family and Children's Aid for our first big Community um kickoff for that so you'll all get invitations to it but just save the date uh so you have it in your notes so that's it now that's all right I just I just want to jump in real quick and thank you Dr me as well for um the the digital information that we get provided now and I know that that list that goes out to the entire uh School list as well yes um it's a
really helpful way to have like all that information condensed in one place because I know you guys are running a lot of programs and you have a lot of different groups that also connect with you yes uh to provide ancillary services so um for board members who may not be aware uh you will occasionally see an email come through from um uh Dr me's office and it really it's it's a great summary of like all the different things that are going on um and different events that might be you know uh beneficial for board members to show up at from time to time yeah yeah it's it's really a central clearing they come to Mike and I and Grace Molina my assistant director and then she puts them all together and they go out into
one uh PDF and out in an email on Sunday morning and believe it or or not that's our highest readership time is that 7 to 10: in the morning so um if we want to get critical things out that's the time to get it out to our families thank you sorry to interrupt mik oh that's quite all right thank you okay in the last item on our agenda is just a quick budget update um I saw John's on too so John please feel free to add anything here that that I don't cover um just a couple critical dates we have coming up uh tomorrow is finance committee and for anyone who's going to be at finance committee I think you guys are at 7 uh we're going to have sites at 5:30 in person right
before so we'll roll right into Finance from there um and then we have a week and then I believe the U the vote is going to take place in the board meeting on uh next Wednesday um for the budget final budget approval and then that final number has to be up uh to the City by uh the following day on Thursday close a business um and then my team will be uh getting getting the books assembled and out to the uh board and City Council Members shortly thereafter so um just depending on how many changes we have to make we should we should only be a couple days behind uh the delivery of that that number on the 15th so hopefully we'll have books to you guys within about two weeks are there any questions
from committee members about any of that information okay any questions from uh other board members that may be on okay no thanks Kate no problem um so uh for for committee members uh one of the things I'd like you to think about between now and when we have the next uh committee meeting which um I don't believe we have one scheduled for I want to say another at least another month um we may try to to uh adjust our schedules I think we had to reschedule a couple in March um one of the things I'd like to think about though uh as a group and have you come to the table with some ideas about what we might uh do as members of this committee if there are particular projects that we want to uh
take on and and have a conversation about um or particular areas where you think we could uh work on improving those community relations um and and putting our making sure that we're as board members we are putting ourselves in spaces to uh be good listeners for the community and to bring some of those concerns back to the full board um so if we could each take a little bit of time and come up with a few ideas uh for the next meeting um you can certainly email those over to me and I will uh relay those to um Dr selig and Dr uh me uh so that we can put an agenda together all right are there any questions at all before we sign off all right this was a record quick meeting I want
to thank you all for being here I appreciate you making the time this evening uh could I get it uh Dr kmir did you want to say anything nope I just was gonna get ready to say goodbye so I told okay just making sure just making sure um could I get a motion to adjourn please I'll make a motion thank you Rich and a second please I'll second that thank you Al I appreciate it all those in favor please signify by saying I I I all right all right have a great night
