two we have Dr me Dr ceiling Dr I mean Mr Wilson Kevin with us tonight working on it working on it Michelle community members I'm sorry um and I'm just gonna go right over and hand this over to Mike and start this agenda for the evening it looks like we've got four items starting with kindergarten transition right that's right so I'll just pull up the agenda here so everybody can see uh pretty straightforward uh we'll start talking a little bit about K transition and meet a little lead off with that um and then she'll segue right into our ongoing engagement and Outreach opportunities superintendent Wilson will jump in for that um and I'll talk a little bit about Collective impact and give an update on some upcoming dates we have and then last uh we'll

talk a little bit about this was an ongoing uh item from our previous meeting uh the role in the charge of the community relations committee um I think it might be a good idea to just sort of get this conversation started and then um you know maybe give ourselves a little bit of homework to do uh over the summer and then this is probably a great way to start off in our August or September meeting of next year um so we can uh really just you know set set the course for for next year so um I'll throw to Anne for number one kindergarten transition great thanks hello how are you good to see everybody tonight so we are in the midst of planning a series of kindergarten transition workshops uh the first one is

next week and this is with in-house or in-house with our School Readiness families that have requested more information about kindergarten we then what we'd like to do is build it out to a series of two or three over the summer where it's a two-part event um in on the evenings maybe we'll try to pull a Saturday one off a little bit longer if we can um but the first part would be with a kindergarten bilingual kindergarten teacher that can speak to the families we would um break it up by language spoken for them to ask their questions specifically about kindergarten what does kindergarten look like what what are the expectations of my children or my child um you know do they get snack who takes them to the bathroom all of those different types of

things um the second part of what we're proposing is then a um abbreviated new promise program and I know we've spoken about the new promise program but we really are refocusing that program to really what kindergarten parents need they don't need to um here at this point in their child's schooling about Naviance and things at the high school and so in the work that we've done with over I think we're 1200 if not more right now uh new promised families or families who have gone through new promise they really want to age specific and so what I'm proposing from my office is that we offer two or three of these to either two evenings in um length one to cover with the bilingual kindergarten teachers and then uh continue to break them into groups by

English Spanish and Portuguese to um hear about the new promise program um I think this will set families up well for understanding their responsibilities um but even more so it gives us a chance to be able to build a relationship with them right from the get-go we've started that already when they've come to Central registration whether it be the testers that are doing that the registrars or our Community Connector is connecting them to the welcome packet into our schools but it's another level that we're able to connect with parents on a small group or even you know one to Thirty group for parents to be able to um feel comfortable when their child starts um kindergarten so that that is what I'm looking at um you know what is your role in it or what

would the committee's role in this be I would love to see that if we have them in person that board of ed members be there even on Zoom that um people from this committee and from the full board have an opportunity to be there I think it's really really important for families to get to know um the Board of Ed and their role because that is something we talk about a new promise and so um that would be your role as well as helping to advertise it and encourage families um to come out for it so that's what I have around uh kindergarten transition great question Al anybody Luisa okay please please Kate question Dr Mead thank you for the view um are we we're still doing the re-entry I know that this really falls

under um Kelly's domain we're still doing that early entry for kindergarten where kids are coming in for that you know during that two or three day period prior to the start of school um to give them the concentrated one-on-one experience um so I just wanted to confirm that is that right I believe this is in addition to this yes um Mike or Kevin maybe you can address that a little bit further um Kate I just want to clarify your ask are you talking about the transition we started last year where we had they were kind of coming in slowly so that they're not all and at the same time as the rest of the school yes yes I just want to confirm we're still doing that so this would be like an additional sort of

like welcoming families in embracing new families that are coming into the district to try to give them some of these tools absolutely this is over and above um similar to some of the some of Anne's other programming and it sounds like she's focusing it specifically on incoming families to the district uh to make sure that they understand how to navigate the district know who the board members are know who the administration is um and it's really about just understanding how to navigate the school system and how we can how we can support and and serve them really excellent okay thank you so much thank you and what we're proposing here is in addition to our monthly new promise program that's drawn between 20 and 40 families um every month that are new to the district

um you know enrolling their children right now in our schools so we do that once a month and that's well attended as well is that through a grant that we would be doing this are we finding that we weren't you know uh reaching enough parents for that event um you know at the beginning of the year because I think we changed our calendar and stuff to kind of coordinate and accommodate that so are you saying that we're in need of like significant where you would have three or four right two or three four um 20 or 30 group sessions I'm going to call it um did you feel that that's needed for the kindergarten transition or the new promise program for the kindergarten transition I thought this new promised program was kind of going to

try to work in conjunction yes yes what a session would be would be um the first part of it the first night because the length of these families you know lose interest or just it's too much information to absorb to take the kindergarten transition um workshop and put it with new promise it's it's over it's information overload and so our families have asked that we do a kindergarten transition workshop with a kindergarten teacher because then they get to see an actual classroom teacher talk about what happens during the day and then the new promise program um and this will be done um in evenings we'll probably run a daytime one perhaps a weekend one um to be able to accommodate all this um the funding Michelle that you bring up Lindy Corporation was the one

that paid for all of the original um putting the new promise program together and working we still have some of that funding left but the new promise program we've really been able to just integrate into um our bigger picture of Family University and the offerings for our families without you know people just adjust their hours okay so in other words is this something that we've considered in our budget is this going to be you know some like in other words the funding for this program you're saying that we've been able to grab from other sources or what was remaining in this yeah I mean right now what happens is the people that are delivering it that are trained in the different languages they just come in later in the day and stay till it's over

at 8 30. so my trainers right now on the one one time a month that we offer it instead of working an eight to four day that day they come in like 11 and works at 8 30. they step in yeah thank you yeah right yeah so it doesn't cost us a lot but the return um feedback from the families uh feedback from principals that um families come in more knowledgeable about the district um has been overwhelming as well as this year many of the principals reached out uh to my staff and they customized the new promise program during open house night for their families as well so this has really gotten a lot of traction right and I'm one more question I think I had one I'm not sure how many kindergarten enrollment do

we do we see this year what do we anticipate how many new kindergarten you were the newest figure on that yeah I don't have the latest we'll probably write about a thousand okay so let's try to thank these three if you're wow great thank you and we may have to offer more you know it becomes an unwieldedly group size if you're up over 50. so you know based on demand we may offer more yeah do you record it so that they if you want or something that own is that something that we offer or is it only currently live and you know that might be so we went back and forth about a year ago when we switched to zoom um on this and what the feeling was that the parents is that having it

recorded inhibited them from asking some questions because we do go down roads of you know my child isn't potty trained or um my child speaks no English how is my child going to be supported in the classroom and so um you know to to move away from families not feeling comfortable to ask their questions uh We've chosen not to record it it makes a lot of sense yeah great Michelle I stepped away for a minute and I think I heard the question around how many kindergartners are we expect to anticipated uh it the number typically is about 900 and 950. um last year around this time I think we had like 600 kids already registered I'm not sure the last time we checked in with those numbers are but we're anticipating the numbers of being

around the same number in the 900 range wow anybody else have any questions Gladys did you want to say something I'm sorry but uh I I lost contact for a few minutes my question is uh we offer this program for the Kindergartens and I'm I'm very curious does the our other elementary schools have any type of program to make parents aware as to what their child is going to be expecting the first day of kindergarten or is it just this one particular School you know so what I'm proposing is district-wide and then the way that we open up schools in the beginning part of the year has gives an opportunity for our parents to meet more teachers and have really school specific information while they're there so we're trying to meet them on many different

levels does that answer your your question Mrs Cooper no uh my my question is it's only for this particular school on Osborne Street so the other Elementary School does not have any type of program because when my five-year-old started school at Great Plain uh and I don't know because I haven't had that conversation was he giving their orientation or was the mother giving the orientation this is what to expect for kindergarten so the program that I'm proposing is a district-wide program okay we've done this in previous years not just in this style we've really refined it this year based on our feedback in previous years but then Kevin or Mike maybe you want to address how um schools work on that transition at a school-based level what are you getting at Anne I I think

I think the question that Miss Cooper was asking is is this school is this school focus or is this District focused I think you clarified okay yeah the question I'm hearing from Ms Cooper like is is this happening because I think from his I think Miss Cooper is asking is this something only happening from your Center or and and it's not just happening from you this is a district-wide effort that will be and the doors will be open for all of our families to participate in and I think the way it was being received was it sounded like it was just coming from Early Childhood it was only for those families thank you I think I think that's what I think that's the clarification that's needed that's why you have the degree and I don't

foreign take the next one yeah and I I think you actually talked through number two already um are there any other of those big dates I know you mentioned the food truck some of the career uh Academy Community sessions any other critical dates coming up what people think we don't have we don't have a scheduled right now we're just starting our cats with Mr Walston we've talked about continuing our coffee with Kevin's and our Saturday morning with our community cultural groups because we really receive great feedback from them great two-way dialogue um with them and with all the things um positively going on in Danbury it's a great opportunity to be able to talk to our leaders in the community okay Ann and I I guess it was a couple of months ago now um

we had an opportunity to kind of meet everyone well not everyone but kind of cultural leaders and it was really after that meeting uh we we had a follow-up meeting with um leaders of our NAACP I extended an offer to them as well to join this one big group if you will and I think it would be more than appropriate if we can get some dates on the calendar next year Ann and I had been talking about maybe this group would be meeting at the minimum of three to four times a year and it's really just an opportunity for these cultural leaders in the district to be at the table from their perspective what are they hearing from their families how could we better support them at the same time they can hear from us

firsthand some of the district initiatives and some of the things that we're doing and if there's any opportunity for us to better serve our families um you know we have some of those reps it is at the table and so once we get those dates kind of lined up for next year and this is kind of part of number four but see if we can add that and see if we can't kind of memorialize this in our calendar um in a way where we can ask for board liaison to this one like we have some commitment to see other ones but it's this is something I I think would be really good for the school district and for the community to have kind of ongoing conversations with our cultural Community leaders and really provide opportunity

for them to share best practice and things that are going in a respective corners of the community but also for us to share not provide an opportunity to talk about our initiatives and things that we're doing but you know again we really need feedback on how things are going from a good perspective but some things that we need to Shrub to better meet the needs um of everyone in the community that actually is a really good segue into item number uh uh into item number four maybe we could we could Michelle if you don't mind just jump right into four and then come back to three okay yeah yeah so we would talk about this idea of Liaisons and uh we were sort of looking through some of the documents we did know that you

know there there are different board members that are Liaisons to different schools and different groups and I really like this idea that we could extend that out to some of the cultural committees I I think that's a great way to to just make sure we have appropriate coverage um but also you know there's this idea of just sort of bringing back the news either to this committee or or to full board so that if something is happening and and you know uh you know at a cultural center or something is happening at the Portuguese Center or something is happening at one of the schools then that's how it comes back to this committee and then we all feel like we're in the loop so I I think that's really one of the the the big

things that that would be a focus area for next year when we set out the charge is to just make sure those initial kind of tentacles that that you know from the board that go outward are are really set into the right place um so so that's number one um and number two you know I I you know there we did some some Googling and searching around and I I know you did a little bit of searching too to see kind of what other boards had as their charge for their Community Relations Committee um this group had said originally this this uh committee was convened primarily to talk about budget issues to to communicate the budget and the way that that works and just some of the the more technical pieces of that communicate that

out to the broader community and then it sort of pivoted a little bit and um now it really has you know more of this sort of just general kind of Engagement feel more of the things that Anne's office does um so in looking at some of those charges one of the things I I caught was that new Havens for example they talk about really serving a specific goal of the Strategic plan so I think when we come back in August it might be a really good opportunity to look at our charge in alignment with either superintendent walston's goals for that year um certainly the the um uh the section of the Strategic plan that is uh goal five I think the meaningful collaboration is that five or six that's five meaningful collaboration and just maybe

chart our course based on the ideas that are outlined in the in the Strategic plan so I'll just kind of put that out there if there's if there's any thoughts or feedback on that um but I think we can we can really craft that first agenda or September agenda really around just charting the course for this group throughout the course of the year and and just figuring out how we're going to do this you know sort of back and forth with the community and and wherever you know our sort of groups are assigned to so I'll just pause right there I I just kind of gave you guys a lot any comments anybody have any comments or questions so could I ask a question please please I apologize my camera is off uh my bandwidth

is a little bit low and I'd rather have good audio so um with with regard to what you're talking about Dr Sealy um when you talk about finding a specific part of the Strategic plan to support uh so you're talking about sort of carving out a role for the board to participate in the Strategic plan in that way yeah is that how you're explaining it sort of I mean I I see it more as you know the the Strategic plan is the vision of the district so therefore any of the work that that you know either the the district or the board being engaged in would kind of fall under that um yeah so we have this fifth goal which is Meaningful collaboration and you know work collaboratively with schools businesses and Community to strengthen

meaningful engagement through joint decision making you know things like that so maybe just when we you know decide whatever that language is going to be whatever that charge is going to be we just align it with a strategic plan and this way we don't have to sort of you know make it out of whole cloth fold it into something else yeah some really clear guiding language there that that'll just sort of help us really snap it into place okay thank you Gladys um just uh off the top of my head I'll go back um when this committee first was started back 20 some are years ago and it wasn't solely budget function at that time it was and and we still doing the same thing uh getting the community and parents to know who these

people are that are on the board and uh quite a few uh things were presented that you know we didn't get to take part in uh but I I don't see a whole lot uh things that are being done different now but um I'm trying to figure out we're talking about the roles and responsibility of this committee and I think the committee should be you know uh limit to maybe one or two things uh to get start with in September as we move far down the road uh the budget is going to always be a conversation that we have to uh have a conversation with parents because the average parent doesn't really understand the budget anyway and half of us on the board don't until we we sit here and be in meetings but I

also think that one of the things that we can't forget because we do have a high turnover is we have to and most of the uh time on the board two years four years or maybe you know whatever position that they pick up we still need to introduce board members to the community right and to me uh the budget and introducing parents uh to board members uh at whatever type of function we have and I think Dr mead just answered uh of activity that she was having to bring board members uh should be a part of but I just seen again communication getting to know who people are and they can talk to you and and dialogue with you and know that you're a board member so that's exactly that was the two thoughts that

I have that's great I'm jotting those down right now miss Cooper thank you do we have Mike anything in mind for when we come back as far as you know I know last year last year having an event and you know we really didn't kind of pan out do we have anything that we're considering to put on the calendar to have that introduction or you know brand new games you can help with this I know there's a whole host of things happening in August and September um any of those would be a good a good fit for sort of bringing you know maybe we can recycle back to this I I don't want to put you on the spot with pinning down a date but um maybe we can just think think together about a

a good opportunity to do this once once School comes back and you know maybe it's just revisiting you know the um you know the ongoing engagement and Outreach opportunities you know maybe that's a standing item on future agendas um but Michelle to your direct question I I don't have a date handy um I could certainly send some things out once once we we get closer to looking at the calendar for my um Mike and Anne um too I I have two outline out loud wanderings um one and as part of the family University work um you have your family's learning specifically about the board event how it functions their roles and responsibilities is that is that for Pep which program is that of the other umbrella so it happens a couple ways one it's in

the new promise program it happens with Pap it's also in the parent C program okay so let's pause let's pause there for a second yeah so we have it in three different programs and it's one thing for the board to come and kind of wave and you know we take a commercial break to introduce the board members but but if you already have cooked into your work like you're gonna learn about the roles and responsibilities of the functions of of the board instead of you with Grace of one of the Liaisons doing it why don't we invite the board members to come speak to the families and I mean like at these functions and if they're available and interested in doing it then they can hear firsthand you know kind of the role of the

work they could be FAQs from your group you know similar to the time when I came in to meet and you guys grilled the the families grilled me for an hour um you know something similar could be done with our board members they can you know get some face time with them um and you know at the same time um you know they're they're learning um Hands-On about the functions of the work and then I'm I'm also wondering and I know we have some board members here who have been here longer than others um you know we we have a function as part of our board agenda that speaks to um uh um updates okay like kind of board there's a board chair updates but it's an opportunity for all of the board members to

provide an update and I feel like that's something that's kind of been lost at least since I've been a superintendent anyway um where you know a lot of the board members on this call you know I see board members at our Citywide PTO meeting as an example right but but we have Liaisons of our board members assigned to schools so it's an opportunity to have face time with families right and so I as I'll use Rachel as an example so she was assigned to AIS that's when her kids went she was already aligned there um and then later west side and so she would come and give an update on West Side Middle School hey this is what's happening at west side and so as a liaison that's something we could be doing right and

so one we're getting FaceTime with our families um two where you know the families are getting FaceTime with you but also you know we're from parents teachers and the principal um all of our board members um are getting uh better connected to the school community and then if we all pointing out collectively everybody is hearing loud and clear kind of what's Happening throughout our school district and I I think honestly that's that's kind of the low hanging fruit for the board it's one that's kind of been established and in place for years um and you know the more active the PTO is um the easier it is to get information and kind of be part of that group um and frankly if a board member is there they might be more engaged because you know

they might feel like hey someone's really listening and you know this is really important to someone so I I just thought that I would share that because those reports is something that's been missing from our board our board meetings just in terms of giving updates about um any liaison commitments that our board members have but it will be a great way honestly um you know I'm thinking back a couple of years ago and and your primary call list and some other board members as well um at Rogers Park Middle School they had a huge Community event where in two days the entire building was painted all the hallways all the staircases everything was painted and so you know a liaison came back and kind of shared hey this is what's going on at Rogers Park

and you know they've been part of all of these you know the whole school Community was galvanized to help make this happen but but someone came back to a board meeting and provided that update and you know the day the day of painting is Saturday September 21st I don't remember the day but it was an opportunity for everyone to understand what was going on at the building so for those of you who have been to Citywide PTO meetings and all of the PTO Representatives provide an update about what's going on at this school it will be similar for the Liaisons to share an update with the full board in the community about what's going on in different schools so I I just thought I'd share that obviously we have some opportunity to revisit that in

the fall um but I think those two things alone but kind of changed the focus and you know voice kind of opportunity to be kind of further engaged more importantly for the community to know who you are and for the you know who you know what's going on in the school community and Kevin we had also spoken about and I don't know if a decision had been made on it but at the end of every board agenda or our our upcoming dates I would love to be able to include um some of these larger district-wide events um that board members could come to in that so it's front and center all the time it is okay yeah I totally agree and absolutely and it just makes it easier and it's just uh this way we

don't you know it doesn't get lost you know we forgot to invite it's just kind of great it's there sit there for a big community events just sitting there for everybody to see absolutely I see Julie your hands up yes I have a quick question I don't know if maybe Dr Siegel or Miss Dr meat can tell me who's responsible to send the invitations for the video like on my end um I know that I'm assigned to Park Avenue um elementary school but I have never received an invitation for PTO meetings so I'm not sure I even went to the school I let them know that I'm I mean I'm assigned to that school but up to this day I don't know if they actually are doing the videos meeting so from that point I

really don't know I mean why how do we actually engage on the ptos because I have never received information I only know that I'm assigned to Park Avenue but I have never received information regarding the PTO meetings um might or in I mean I know that when I Rachel was chair we were right with a city-wide yeah yeah sorry you cut you cut out a little bit Michelle um saying that I know that it was just kind of that board members would oh there's been any communication on directly as Roger that I are defense I about them at the Citywide Po and there's a lot per school like there's several things going on right right for sure Michelle so thinking right now I try to make as many events as possible so you got family

University that could be a couple of hours then we've got like three meetings a week then you got city-wide Beach if we add the summer I mean there's a lot like I'll try to go to something but I have another meeting it's going to be difficult every night yeah so I I I think we can uh find out from the principals who the president of the PTO is um but the principal um will have the dates of PTO meetings and that might be the cleanest way for us to share the schedule of those meetings um and at the very least make sure the Liaisons are on a mailing list and email lists uh for anything that's coming up so we will work behind the scenes to make that make sure that information is available and

make sure the liaison is a part of the um the distribution list for any meetings that's going on in school yeah or yeah I was going to add I would assume the invites are sent out by the school secretary so you know it might be something as simple as just just checking those lists with them or sending out a reminder to make sure they're updated uh usually what has happened though over the years if you're representing uh one of the schools uh let's just say South Street uh is is not normal for them to send you an invitation uh usually we go you know the the superintendent secretary and I'm not saying that this has to change over my tenure being on the board the superintendent secretary and I think Carol did that last year

uh she contacted all the schools and uh they let her know which date that they were having their PTO meetings okay and uh one the only school that we always had a problem with was AI um Ace because they're they're uh PTO is not set in stone and they usually let you know the date today the same day that they having a PTO meeting okay uh and over the years um you know if you know it's the second Monday you go and you show up and uh most of the time you know they ask who you are you identify yourself and then once you make that first meeting contact and you uh arrive at the next one you saw to iron your way in and they know who you are uh but they're not happy

over the tender that I have seen of you coming as more or less uh supporting because we were told when we go as representative of the the the board to go listen see what their comments are what they are concerned about and bring it back to the board and um you know I used to do that before covert hit and I think what covert did what made us a little uh lazy because uh you know things changed and we couldn't be in the school like we wanted we couldn't be to the PTO meeting and it sort of made us uh lazy uh and and some of those PTO meetings because I I'm guilty myself I haven't been to one when I need to know that I know I need to go but your body can

only go so many places and so many nights mm-hmm so my Mike and I we will um we'll meet with Cara and um make sure we have the contacts make sure the board and the Liaisons um have the dates um so that you know it it'll be a little easier Julie unless they have to navigate through for next year so that's something that will set up set as a goal to make sure that's all set up thank you thank you I have another small question short question and and based on engagement um is there any like a social media home page or can we create a a Facebook page only for board members and where we they can actually interact with us I'm not sure everything is in social media so I don't know if

it's something that I mean it's um we have it we can have access can we do something or not I I don't know Julie um I don't know if all of you guys could collectively be in that space people responding you guys responding back um but we I let's we can say that question for Kim um but I I Envision it being problematic um just because it it could come across that you guys are actually conducting business um or responding back as a board to individual questions I mean more like instead of just being a Danbury public schools website it could be something that many people engage in Facebook I mean um Community groups not to have their interaction but at least that the information our information is there but I mean it's something that

we can actually get more information like you just mentioned because I believe that we can engage a lot more with um through social media then just going to events some parents don't go and but maybe it's something that just got from the top of my head it's not something it's just I was thinking about that I'm not sure right right and we can also coordinate messaging through parent Square so if you know we want to say oh there's a meeting on Tuesday you know that's something we could we could have on our calendar to push out regularly so um it's just clear this is the meeting space there's no you know no questions about engaging offline or anything like that or conducting business so that's another option I like the idea with the um you

know the school if you're the liaison and you're on that distribution list like if I see stuff going on because there's a lot of stuff that like we had a hockey game this weekend we had a you know all kinds of events I would share those I would post those you know to get that engagement especially in my school like I'm gonna do it anyway I try to do it when I see it but I'm gonna like really gonna kind of double down on on my school if I'm engaged which I'm not getting those so maybe you know I'll bring that up at the next city ybto but that would really I think at least help spread the word you know with your school and your parents right absolutely absolutely okay okay we've already got

a bunch of great ideas here so what what's next on your list Mike uh last but not least uh well going back to number three is an update on Collective impact so we had a little bit of a watershed uh moment I think the last week or two where I think we turned a corner uh with Collective impact and um and I'll let you talk more about it and uh we'll be bringing more folks into uh the fold going forward hmm thank you Mike yes we've been working very very hard and diligently with our signers and others that were identified to be able to help um with this project um community members parents um youth which has been really great to have them engaged um at our last meeting we actually met and resolved around

or came to um consensus on a um three different cornerstones or three different goals most likely they will still go through a another process with more folks but it looks like it's leaning towards attendance mental health and then the Early Childhood components we've been fortunate to be led by Alex London who has really pushed us and then pushed back and then pushed us forward again um to make really really critical critical decisions as we head into our sixth meeting next week we will be expanding the group we'll be inviting more community members in more agencies in more families and to really look at what these cornerstones are and then develop work goals around each one and work groups and so we're really looking for those that are willing to roll up their sleeves and get

the work done at the same time we'll be working on moving forward with drafting a executive director position and going out and starting to advertise for an executive director the work that it takes to get a collective impact up and going right now is shared between four of us and we're ready to go to the next next stage in that so we are also looking at data sharing agreements um other mousse with different agencies and and what they bring to the table and really codifying our mission and vision and goal statement for each of the areas so um Michelle I do believe you received the dates okay so I'm excited about that yeah yeah and um you know stay tuned for you know more work we have been meeting with funders out there um because

this is about a two or 1.2 million dollar lift um for three years to put this in play we already have some funding already from Nelly May and thank you Nelly May for that um but we need to you know position this correctly in the community so that it's sustainable and so we're looking at not so much a leadership uh decision-making board but more so of a smaller Community advisement board or Advisory Board and then the cans or the groups around the Cornerstone uh Community Action networks they're going to be the workabees that will really do the work and then it will funnel up to um The Advisory board for any feedback and then come back down we are fortunate that we have United Way as our back phone and so things such as HR

matters Financial reports and all of that back that kind of back um back work is already done by them so we're really happy about having them on board the other great thing about that is they are also key to the Stanford cradle to Career um movement down there so we're able to share some of their expertise around Dei training and things like that we are also um we'll be joining strive together which is a National Organization that supports cdc's or Community impact organizations and so we will be the fifth one in the state that are members of strive and so you know strength in numbers strength in Sharing what works and what doesn't work we feel will make Danbury very very strong and meet the goals that we need to have as a community to

to help our students be prepared for school and then to be able to navigate the absenteeism and understand what that is and what it means as well as help with our mental health with our students no and United Way will be sending those invites is that the who's sending out those I know that Isabella's way this week and so I have all the calendar invites I brought them home with me and I will send those out send those out tonight we are at the police station it's a morning meeting on the is it yes okay 25th starts at 10 to 12 at Danbury Police Station great okay you had mentioned three things attendance mental health and then you said a third and I didn't get that so the Early Childhood component um you know we

need to help educate parents about what good care looks like how to um another piece is helping parents to develop the skills to support their children and then from a provider's perspective we need everyone on board using the Early Learning development guidelines which are the guidelines that prepare children there's a Continuum of growth that prepare children for kindergarten so that group like our other groups will be multifaceted so it's just not like a parent campaign but there's layers within each one of those um that goals will be written for right and Michelle and for everyone they think about um you know kind of school or kindergarten Readiness in all of the various um um things that need to happen to make sure a child is ready for kindergarten application everything from Health Care to you

know us educating families so they can educate their kids streamlining you know kind of resources across this community to make sure at the minimum every all of our kids are getting the minimum minimum experience um assured if not made them experience short experiences across the school Community um it's really really trying to to try to connect and make sure we're all rolling in the same direction in this regard whether it's our um School Readiness centers or for the families that don't sit in their their their kids to pre-k programs uh you know making sure we're finding ways to educate them on some basic things that they could do at home with their children as well um and again you know we we don't have to reach into the entire Community to do this uh but

we have you know various institutions and agencies at the table we certainly have the ability to [Music] okay anybody have any comments or questions for Anne or anyone Dr Mead do you mind running down uh the dates again for some of those events that you mentioned earlier I apologize I didn't catch all yeah no I'd be glad to do that so we have 525 27 20 and 8 31. they're all at the police station right there on Main Street from 10 to 12. the only thing that would change that location is if something's happening happening in town the police department needs to use that community room we would know as soon as something happened and then we would let people know of an alternate location for the meeting excuse me um are you expecting all

four members to attend all meanings or just a few meanings or not sure I'm not sure at this point I think what's going to be important is what's near and dear to your heart and what group that you would want to work on I'm sorry Ann are we talking about the collective impact yes so Julie I I think it's important we will I think what I'm hearing from Mike and Anne um and and I understand everyone on this call is a is a board member um but but I think um structurally we will have one board member as a liaison to this committee and then if if there's a board member who is on this committee representing a different office or department or agency that's okay but it but technically there's only one board liaison

on the school on the on the collective impact um and so we were we were told to um guard against overwhelmingness collected with school staff because it's not school staff and school Representatives because it's it's it's a community group it's not actually a school group and so if you're aware of the hat that you were wearing the last time you came Julie and Bridget where is the hat that she was wearing um and so in this sense that Michelle is representing the board uh respectfully I'd be asking the other board members to represent their respective agencies or offices um and I mean again I I know we're all you're all board members um in the community but at this table you'd be representing those respective officers no thank you Julie I just put all those

dates in the chat if anybody just wants to do a quick copy paste to uh to an email for themselves so thanks Mike thank you so Indiana is this something I'm sorry Michelle no no I thought we were blowing so yeah is this is this something that we will is this something we would be adding to the agenda or this wouldn't be appropriate because everyone's not invited yeah you know Kevin made a good point in in responding to the original RFP from Nelly may it was very clear that the work that was going to be done needed to be a Community Driven initiative and so we're being very careful that as school people we don't overload the um the group that's there because immediately people are going to say well look at how many school

people are on this and it's actually a school initi initiative we want to hear from parents and families um and and our student population um and others in the community that provide the services so we're very very careful in how we um craft that group um to not appear that we've overloaded it with school um yeah yeah I just wanted to clarify because last time it was a little mixed up and I went there I went from the um Community Action right right as a board member at the same time I'm a board member from the Board of Education and it was like a little mixed up so I just want to make sure um what is the expectation yeah I'm glad you asked that question thank you thank you if there's anything else anybody

have any other comments questions we're just about there 655 is there any body else so anybody want to move to adjourn this meeting so moved by I can't see you by Julius Lauren Lauren well Lauren I just saw a hand okay Julie did you want to play Oh second that Julie's not on the committee I don't think oh okay go ahead thanks okay if I take Richard thank you so much good night
