002students we've provided it as part of our Friday packet for the board and the community and really this is a follow-up to be board presentation on kind of the summit of data presentation kind of the state of the district attorneys that are supporting [Music] so for us we see this work as the next step I thought it would be appropriate to introduce the two chief of schools to you this evening we have we do a lot of work in our respective offices around looking at data of our schools kind of assessing where we are as a district in these two fine people have been charged with helping to improve a teacher and [Music] Implement architecture ultimately we want to improve of course food now so they will speak through some of the research behind furthermore
003speak to kind of their practices with principles to help move the district forward so Mr Chris Roche and Dr Anna Rocco welcome to the board meeting and we are ready for it good evening thank you for having us today as we discuss some of the work we're doing as a Chiefs of schools my name is Christopher she's the schools Ka uh for I don't Rockville next to me and we can handles K5 with some of our schools so we are I just ended up another package we'll get started in just a moment uh but first and foremost again thank you for having us I want to talk about the important work that his school Improvement um creating a History Month here in Montana so just to talk about some of the work um you'll see
004a quote on page one or page two that the School principles are down for 25 of the school-based impact on student achievement second only to classroom teachers at 75 so if you think about how profound the impact and how the enormous responsibility and the Bliss that a principal has as they help Elevate practice in their school in the school room process so it's still yeah all right we'll take a look at that side next so talk about principal leadership matters and then you're packing we're on the principal leadership matters live thank you you'll get the Wallace Foundation uh research Think Tank they talked about shape and vision but that success so we talk about principles in the realm of you've got about 36 million things happening during the course of the day and you've got
005to prioritize instructional leadership to affect positive change that we're going through effect on this system at scale uh creating a climate hospitable education cultivating leadership and others so the notion of leadership well by example and the leadership capacity building our leadership and other schools years improving instruction so this is really the why and the why Behind these positions choose the schools is that when we invest in principal practice principal professional development we directly impact teacher practice and ultimately student outcomes which is what we're going to talk a bit about today but the whole notion of this presentation of the leadership matters principles matter and in order to Be an Effective change agent we've got to move the needle which is what we're going to do this year inside too that's too small all right so
006we're going to talk about the science of school Improvement so we're getting chaos Improvement strategies Improvement science uh presupposes that there are ways to improve uh with respect to the moving uh student performance for uh it's really important it's difficult to see on the screen right now but when you've got a second of the accountability system it's a holistic balanced scorecard for accountability for the state of Connecticut and it's a perfect care measure of student performance I say this because it provides if you look at the screen above this is Joe West used to enjoy the circus at the PTO meetings if you look at a slide above we're showing that at the elementary level 42 percent of the accountability indexes is determined by quarterly what I mean by growth is every student has a
007Target uh your work call a live watching board meeting last year Caravans represented on targets right and we talked about the notion of crossing the Finish Line right every student has a Target if every student reaches or a Target they're put 100 both on growth rate but also the average percent the target achieved so when we look at that 42 percent we're saying students are growing and it's almost half the accountability system similarly at the middle school that's approximately important for a staff growth so you have a system predicated on growth our job is to get every student closer to that growth Target so you could run a 26 mile marathon if I finish 26 miles get 100 if I finish 25 I've got points proportional to that 26 miles so in doing so many
008of our schools currently are in the quadrant that says lower achievement but very high progress all right so our job fundamentally everybody's job with the school district is to improved practice right so getting principles into professional learning communities to really dive into student level data system level data and data across all Summoners the other thing that you'll notice about this accountability index at least in your packets is high needs students count twice in the data what high needs so that's how do we Define that that's ell students special education special needs as well as Freedom reduced lunch so when we talk about closing the achievement Gap number one we need to know that one exists second we need to know all of the students in our system and how are we going to move the
009needle for all students which is a moral imperative we want all students to grow we want all students to be proficient so the way that we do this is to really study the data really breaking down the segregate Bible study by subject Center but grade level we meet with principals we meet with coaches we meet with all district leadership in an effort to impact positive change I'll stop talking for a moment But ultimately you know there are strategies to get better um and we need to examine continuous models of success or schools in this District that every year continue to thrive we're studying that there are schools and other districts that continue to thrive we are studying them and bringing some of those practices back you know the professional learning communities so not directly you
010want to talk about the positions so anyways and we're very excited to be to use this one into a while but it is but we've only come recently I was very connected to the workers in schools and we understand about the goals experience so in our next slide and in your package you see things the rules for Chiefs and we used to do many things there so there's really a lot of the job description and then there's those other jobs other [Music] periodically so part of our role also in addition to these students that you see listed on the slide are Outreach to parents and kind of concerns that can't be resolved in the building level they generally come to us okay so we also hold your co-chair the media and we oversee summer school
011in addition to possibilities in a year but the heart of our work which lies on the next slide is the things that come under these strategic operating companies goals so if you'll see a few things listed there and everything that really is on the first sheet in that very long list is lives under these two areas that are focused on the Strategic algorithm and homeless for Walston schools so I just want to talk you through a little bit about what this actually looks like in practice we are in school every week in we all love our schools everything and talking with everyone um that's something that is really critical to our work and very important to both of us as well as to Mr Austin that was one of his priorities I want people on
012the ground I want people to know what's happening in our schools and I want to be able to hear from the people who are there every single day what's going on in our buildings and how we can support the work that our principals and our teachers are doing to Advanced student learning so when we think about the school Improvement planning process it really is a very extensive process it starts with principles analysis of the data and that informs the score through the plan it sounds like it might be simple but it really is very complex it's looking at where's is selling where students need to grow further and what are the instructional practices that influence that growth or need to change in order to develop the growth further in those areas you work very carefully
013with the principles in addition to the care monitor to look at the data to look for Trends across not only the schools but across the district we meet the first schools regularly our shares the schools to um data with them as well as the district's data with us they can see where they are and comparison to Industry and they can really hone in on areas where students need support and what instructional strategies can go up against these areas in order to advance supermarket here we go look like the festival you provide feedbacks and those plans on a regular basis and we really push the principal's thinking around the goals that they bring the strategies that they've written and the systems that they have in place to support those goals it's really important to us that
014those documents that they are working calculus who don't want them to be something that's written at the beginning of the year and then we've got spots again a couple of times during the year to see where we are in those plans we want them to be living documents based on that data as it comes in with looking at data in terms of big data so you saw a lot of the escrow data from camera velocity also receive Dental's data at some point in time which is related to our literacy skills in our Literacy for local students and we have already this year with various [Music] middle schools also have literacy I'm not we'll see that later as well and we'll look at that data but the other data that we have that book is the
015day-to-day data the student work we're really grounding a lot of our decisions with student work and when we engage in the fields and process that professional Learning Community process for principles we're really looking at student work and saying where students growing where do they need to go further what are we doing in our instructional practices that's helping that and helping students to advance your life right so we engage in instructional rounds with principles that we use for Science and learning walks through their building or hoping to engage teachers in those learning walks as well so they can see perform practices that are going on in their buildings but that's really a critical part of our work to see if this is a focus for a school if this is a strategy that they've identified is
016it going to be a high level of practice school student going forward where we've seen evidence of it where can we really recognize teachers success in implementing those effective strategies and where can we bring teachers together to share their successes so that they can share those excellent practices with each other and have opportunities to discuss them in addition to that we're looking at what innocent plan when they have identified these practices that they've made for high leverage practices which will soon learn forward what is it that has to happen in the administrative practice where does the administrator feel they want to push themselves and grow their own practice to influence teachers practice which we know will impact student learning and against you let's do the first goals that we have so we're identifying areas of
017growth for administrators just like athletes and doctors and lawyers have coaches get coached them on a regular basis we want to rule the practices of our administrators as well so we are also providing opportunities for administrators to come together to share the school Improvement plans to talk about things that are working in their buildings to think about common problems of practice within schools across our schools and then how are they utilizing resources within their schools how are their teachers implementing strategies that they're seeing great success with and we're trying to provide many opportunities in many ways so if maybe we'd be one-on-one with principals to talk about their practices we might bring small cohorts of principals together to talk about practice or we may meet with the whole leadership team to talk about things that
018are going on in their schools that are successful and also provide opportunities for them to talk with each other about how to build their practice and how to solve problems in their schools so we are really excited about our work um we know that from our experience administrators are both in many many directions on the important today and oftentimes um we get so involved in the dealing management pieces that we don't have time to engage in those real professional conversations and keep that instructional leadership first and foremost in their minds before front our administrators are dealing with lots of things over the course of the day but not fires making sure safety is the number one priority of all students and staff and making sure we're keeping academics front and center sometimes gets pushed a
019little bit to the side when you get invented in all of the other things that happen so when we are there and we're in schools it's an opportunity to bring that leadership Focus back to the work they really want to be doing and want to engage in that high level so we're really excited about those opportunities that we have we've talked to many administrators as we go in the other day someone said I set aside there's two hours that you're here every week as the sacred time so I know during that time that there's nothing that's going to happen except we're going to talk about educational leadership in my leadership practice and I hope that time to save your time every week um so it's exciting work that we're doing we think that it's worth
020it will really push our leaders to grow we have outstanding leadership in our district we're really proud of people who are colleagues and now we're working with closely and our role is really to ever continue to elevate the leadership practice so that they can in turn work with their staff and Elevate the teacher practice which then in turn always our students success foreign [Music] question how do students approach word problems learner-centered problem students translate word problems and solve without thinking about these questions so without thinking about what the question may be asking right so that's a student learning center problem teacher problem practice may be that teachers are asking students to memorize words such as in all how many more different sort of keywords that may uh you know impact the right answer so that
021once we know that we're going to put an actual time in place we've got to remedy that as a problem of practice it's about a teacher practice so we've got to look at it through the lens of what do we need to increase whether we need to decrease where we need to stop altogether so our actual plan would be to help students create models to to understand what's going on in our work obviously conceptualize it and act on it and make sense of the word problem but also solve it and then plan to assess using short-term long-term goals looking at specifically how do we remedy that issue so that we can concurrently improve our checkpoints along the way our irated data our liberal data our smarter balanced data we're very completed driven and we're trying
022to impart within all schools like data culture so that it becomes a really good business around here in all schools we looked at data in a way that since I've been here we have not all right we're looking at the student level we're looking at it and with this sense of urgency the right way so the remove the needle in the right direction crucial to that is after we look at the data we need to act on it right the teacher didn't have it in their hands principles need to have it in their hands we need to get out into those classrooms so we're there every day in classrooms with principals asking questions helping lead and and really um helping create the conditions for success in all schools within within all classrooms so I'll probably
023the opportunity so we have a couple on the last three principal survival time sharing students success their actions helped me in a positive School climate motivate School staff and enhance teachers practice therefore they play me in the role in retaining effects of teachers and ensuring their success in the hospital ultimately has the leadership has significations to students experiences and accomplishments so our goal is to provide support to all of our principles whether that looks like data analysis of unsolvable being a thought partner just boosting them around sometimes sometimes we go into a building and the principal says I just I just need the 15 minutes of your time to just talk a little bit go for it so sometimes we're there to just support them in that in that moment but our ultimate goal is
024to be a strong support for president so that they can be a strong support to their teachers which then translate to success for all students and one of the things that we very early on when we knew we had these two roles was that our desire is to be the person that we if we had when we set effort to see um so that's really what when we walk in the building every time we walk into a building we try to meet the person that we believe we had when we stand that goal and also improve outcomes in all areas across the district [Music] well that is it any questions question so when I was back on the board of April Kevin took the time to sit me down because I came back and there
025was a lot of juice and a couple more assistant superintendents and so I kind of got acclimated with the bulls go on so um thank you for you know talking about your whole and um so who who did your job be for you guys were hired the assistant superintendent right that was your job before and then without your classes consumer in 10 minutes director of great Construction two years three three eighteen years Kara and I had the responsibility of transport of my 10 year it was solely my role in and then he was over last year and prior to that was built um Dr casimiro's role Plus the principles Etc I don't know what that was there before that I don't know if you know maybe caramel wasn't Christie's leader leader of like the charge
026of the team not for supervision though so she was a lead principal so API for Destruction okay yeah you're right so there was a complete role for that and then it had one point gotten kind of cut down to a to a lead position correct yeah and Ralph I'm sorry also my first year here Dr Rocco was in a similar API position I forget the name the title of that position at that time and then she ended up going being [Music] primary the second year kind of in the middle of the Year pandemic and there we go back just your product s yeah we're trying it out and we're gonna we're gonna open uh we'll see a return on our investment effects here with uh data with Karen and stuff like that but um how
027many guys have been in this district for a long time you've seen a watch everything so I'm glad you guys are wearing these roles [Music] so I have questions like I just wanted to say one question um your presence on the district team has been welcomed and appreciated I feel like it's an opportunity for us to make our work the work that happens across the street in the curriculum office come alive specific lift that working and leave that work I just want to say to the board we have kind of doubled down and invested in these positions because we've got that the better prepare our principles are these are going to be [Music] they follow research to support that that thought we we is going back to one of the points that Chris had made
028into that slide inverted triangle and if that data watch process that Chris was so happy to present and we've talked about the problem of practice we are particular ly [Music] intent helping principles identify problems and practices in and so the wonderful staff that we just saw in the back of the king of the cow it is sitting with the principal in helping principal traffic get ready for his fourth grade Team all of those teachers are together and help us identify the profitable practice hypothetically inappropriate what do we want to improve outcomes for kids in the fourth grade and then help the teachers unpack the data in ways so they can find out what those problems are get to the root cause in terms of teacher practice to help improve it's not about people doing anything
029wrong but it's just trying to find the right practices so sometimes those issues issues stomach they have something that we have to [Music] have to schedule and a program and get to school and and so the principle may have to make a shift or it could be principal practice but you don't know until you sit down and begin to discuss and help uncover the problems and so these are the things that Annie and Chris are really intentional about so I don't Chris who said the principal has like 36 million things on your plate that they're trying to deal with and and of course they're trying to get them to focus on student outcomes teaching practice instructional leadership meeting okay we've we've invested in where our big bets are on principal leadership we can't get to
030every single teacher in the district but we can get to every single principle in the district to help and improve their I mean this is the deliberative practice moving forward so I said I apologize I just want to one last question so I'm talking about management principal so if a principal comes to you with a problem you guys have the authority to solve that problem when you could say they have an issue with uh a teacher in their in their their client their school or they have they have um you know they have a safety issue where they have something like that so is that where that because that's that one level of installation kind of from the superintendent area [Music] aerial Point time will also [Music] with your family care of him and Kevin
031morons peace out again or we can only live together in the process of being individual should be application how do you find out that um communication is with the network speed dial do they pick up yes anyway well thank you everyone we have a great staff in this District wonderful Educators and administrators and thank you all for your support I'm sorry yep just do we have a metric in place to show the growth of our principles of administration or is it just ultimately the growth in our students that are going to approved effort that's a great question thank you guys so we are we are in a space right now because we were meeting just this afternoon [Music] that we met last week really following up with our admin Council all of our administrators to
032follow up to the Public Presentation that you just saw in the last one part of that presentation is began to talk about the next steps specifically for all of our school leaders our school leaders like we're all supervised evaluating this District and so there there was kind of expectations artifacts as part of their leadership that people um so we haven't talked about what that would look like publicly in terms of practice but certainly some of the things certainly one of the expectations that I was talking about today like when we meet with our admin Council next Tuesday I want to make sure our last couple of slides to concrete concretely talk about next is two leaders in the world and some of those concrete next steps are I need to be able to say to
033Anna and Chris how is principal why doing relative to the best practice the house principal X doing relative to these expectations and so we will be working on outside of right so again everyone's evaluated and still be kind of a toolkit of best practices we're expecting everyone to engage in and so we're saying tonight this whole idea of PLC the professional Learning Community we want our principals to lead meetings with with grade level teacher Wednesdays I think ideas so here comes the fourth grade team they all come in we need to make sure their agendas there are minutes that'll help driving those discussions Chris is having a conference he's talking about hey we need that um we need evidence that those discussions have been LED in many cases Chris and Anna will be there but
034if they're not there then the principal has to make sure that they have in place and then of course we're meeting with principals every week as you've heard but we're also sitting down and having a full-on conversation this is your benchmark data at the beginning of the year until I see how it comes now um point out how has the school moved and then we'll do it in the middle as the process unfolds they're going to be providing feedback to the principles all throughout the year and so in the beginning Anna Chris might be leading the meeting of doing a whole meeting [Music] at some point in a year it should be shoulder to shoulder and we're we're kind of really sharing it then at some point there should be constant care where only the
035principal is leading and Anna is only coaching from behind in the background so those are some that's something important to see at all of our schools but I I do think it's important raise this because we haven't like come up with a score sheet outside of the event valuation process on how we're doing but I think it's important for us to have important for us to identify our schools that meet kind of more help with growth than others and that's something that we'll be working on and we certainly identified schools that the in terms of student outcomes or not as good as we would like them so we're working with those schools and differentiating support accordingly but in some cases that also means our principles need help just like our kids and I'll teach quite
036differentiate differentiated support as well [Music] thank you for the presentation is it impossible uh we could get email to us a better version of page two and page five please thank you it wasn't fun yeah and it's in our packet and everyone's email to us it's not an equality in the email it's smaller too that'd be awesome [Music] um like yesterday was professional development our principles included in the profession of development days the principles are included some principles lead some are learning a particular content area on that very as quickly can you can just share with the board what likely to be an application so what we did I'll speak to the elementary real quick there were teachers that were learning at various grade levels through difficult data going over like your location for the
037data what to do with that was about providing a classroom in the I really Iris is going through the game changer for the districts and most subjects particularly at the middle school where you got the whole alternative for uh you know mention two but with respect to your question the principles were there a learning but B also facilitating a great level meeting so indigen after let's say grades two and three go to their typical streaming they will then come back and be with their principal but this wasn't that facilitating that discussion on school improvements I think what a certain data look like what are some highly perspectives were going to incorporate within the client and I really want to monitor whatever outcomes what are our goals so it's it's twofold that they are participating in
038professional learning they do get a professional learning profiles as well but in that realm yesterday they were too far learning but also presented and facilitating the discussion around school um previously development early release day when teachers will work with each apartment people so we have the principles of us when we were looking through and continue in our work with the PLC plus training so on Point people um and the principals came with us and we worked for about two and a half of the EOC class thank you thank you again thank you [Music] and so the next goal is gold rate fiscal responsibility and planning for growth this one is about Danbury degree Academy Staffing plans to be objections and a couple of soybeans ago think of a overview of we were anticipating the cost
039to be to open up the new Career Academy [Music] and Dr casanov is display walk you through those three values good evening everyone I'm going to try to read off my slides a little bit because I'm also having a some of the fonts it's a little small and honorable self-conscious route so I'll make sure that everybody can see the rubbers and speaking to them to them appropriately so what John and I tried to do is put some detail behind the projected numbers for the for the cost of the academy which both includes the high school side as well as the new middle school science club which is much smaller than student in a moment the first thing I thought was important is to try to ground ourselves in how do you come up with with
040class size numbers there's teaching staff and so this is a general formula that we've used in the past with turning large numbers such as this is an imperfect model because the whole class sizes tend to be a little bit different they cover in our district at the high school level around 26 is sort of the number that we run some of our classes are larger at the Danbury uh the DCA in the architectural plans we've we've created CE for 24 which is pretty typical recognizing that we may have one or two or three extra students in those classes likewise there will always be smaller classes for different reasons some of our special classes classes that have a lot of heavy equipment sometimes run in smaller numbers so 24 sort of a general worker that we're
041using of the protection for this model um so just to just to reiterate so if you have a 1100 students at the high school side and the new Academy each eating seven classes at 7 700 classes divided by 24 students is 321 sections a teacher contract they can teach five sections so we can come up with 64 teachers and so when you when you minus out the remaining staff left at Danvers High School at the time that we did this it was 2500 students roughly I think it's I think about 87 short since the October 1st collection and you would need approximately 140 445 teachers depending right around the numbers of 24 or 25 um our classes at temporary school a little bit a little bit lower so the first slide in the deck is
042really the meatiest to unpack and I'll see if I can do that for you without getting too complicated so you can see that the regular teaching classes currently we have 201 core regular teaching classes at Danbury High School teachers that she would say the dc82 and the DC A4 what that means is that the Dan breaker Academy with the two academies and then DCA fours the more the main campus at our high school and so you can see that our DCA academy by our mathematical formula with these 64 teachers we would still need with the remaining staff 144 teachers for a total of 208 so a net new of seven new staff so we do gain some staff over when we move over to the academy but we still have to hire approximately seven I
043will point out that this is based on this year's production as an example but as you move as we move through the next couple of years Danbury High School have an additional 400 students total between the two campuses which is 23 or so additional teachers from out and see here so while the DCA two-sided number will stay fixed because of the number of because of the capacity of that building our DHS in terms will continue to grow through 2025-2026 so we'll be adding more staff than that so right now this is really just a projection of the Oakland Academy today this is what we think we would need we are going to cost out the next couple here year over year to kind of get even more detailed after a picture of the cost moving
044forward the teaching or media PPT that's really are some of our facilitators these numbers are a little bit easier to digest you currently have three we'll need one at the new Academy site 3D must reading at DHS for a total of one additional same thing with our special education you can see we'll need at least three and again special education members are will fluctuate based on the control of the lottery that our students needs same thing with ESL and bilingual students three there coaching and counseling will need an additional five or a little short at DHS to begin with so we really would not be removing any of our counselors out of that main site we'd be adding five over to the new site Crisis Intervention here we need a new teacher there one SRO
045um you'll see on the Middle School slides and I also have an SRO listed on the Middle School side of this so whether or not we would need to would be made to be seen depending on the makeup of the campus and the accessibility between between both buildings building where it's welded off we'll see how that that works a media specialist you will need one school psychologist we think we can move one over and leave three at DHS Two Social Work One speech pathologist and One D in additionally and on the Middle School side the Middle School side is is all net new so there are not enough seats per se not enough teachers and and to remove out of the Middle School building so for example you're taking out only a few students from
046each grade level each cluster across three buildings so it's not quite enough to bring an entire teacher across so the Staffing at the middle school is on that new the little stars when we're teaching class regular it needs has a little meaning behind it right now these are just core classes we would likely have to add special aerial classes to this as well it could be upwards of six additional staff there but we'd like to see if we can get some sort of crossover between in special areas between the high school side and the Middle School side so we're still going to continue to look at that so it could be as few weeks too it could be as many as six go update that as we get to work on it a little bit
047more again you can see the special education numbers there the remaining numbers that were similar to the high school so you have any questions about that sliding concerning what should happen yes and no Sean Paul what is uh forgive me I don't know what what is a dean Daniel so the DNA students the dean of students of work so basically the dean will handle kind of the low level behavioral things happening at the high school level but also really keep track of students who are productively absent and making you share a touching base that our kids are coming to school and they're staying on track they're looking for students right away it's particularly in freshman year they're very key in Grade 9 to making sure students are on track for graduation and they work directly
048with the kids and the administration to collaborate on each Young very much they've been a huge child in this last year or so especially on the high school administrative side production so we will need a campus principal um at the site as you can see the associate principal of 0.406 that's actually Dr Martens who would shift her support between the two buildings and balance her time up if one of the left director that would remain we do not have a sports on this campus and the students on the DCA campus are part of our DHS community and will be attending all the curricular sports that they enjoy now um our director of County Partnerships as product Dean he will also be sharing time between the two sites as well as working out in the community
049and we currently have five principals please we would need two on the new site five would remain the main campus for a total net view of two and on the Middle School side a little bit simpler no credit support the next couple of slides are really about your support of Staff again the support staff can vary widely depending on the students that are attending on either campus and so these numbers can kind of shift between both campuses they can be a little higher it can be a little bit lower so you have a total of 12 support staff between your regular paraprofessionals ESL and your special education here reflections Middle School side you want to talk about the 14th irriting other staff projections on the high school side so custodial Secretary of Maintenance you're seeing
050safety Advocates um many of these you again you don't review about secretary for Mobility to go to another so you don't exactly gain Staffing here you have a total of 14 across the star on the cafeteria staff is references the fact that that is a program that pays for itself so we don't technically bankroll those jobs we want to speak with that today a little bit on the cafeteria side of things sure there's a whole bunch of the school lunch fund is a colon off budget so sustaining paid for either through State reimbursement or claim claim lunches for for sales on food during the day so there's no no part of the school budget that goes to America school lunch time and now the Middle School slide this may differ actually it does differ from
051what's in your packet if you notice that one of the columns had a formula that totaled some of those areas so I did correct those um and I will be sitting at the boards if you have the updated numbers on just a couple of few different numbers there some custodial side of the school league was two the total was two new hires would be two I believe under a packet you may have seven because it totaled it from the high school side you know I apologize for that um secretary maintenance and then the other one there on that sheet was completely Advocates that also held the formula and told it from the high school side as well so that number was dropped down to a total of 13 for this area here and then we
052have John walking through sort of the totals so in aggregate when you add up the 912 Personnel the six eight Personnel uh and then we'll talk a little bit about some of the busing and you can see more after that sure um all of the positions that you've seen are members of McLaren units so it was relatively straightforward to as well through the projections and all of the numbers that we took came from the exist for that year for the teachers and other certified staff in the Nea we budgeted at Ma step six we think is pretty typical amount that we're recruiting people into happening so that all the positions are NA Step six the benefits we took a middle kind of point which is a combination of employees who might elect a single coverage
053and their employees that might take family covered who pre-blendid those in the of course some teachers don't pay social security but other staff members do so that that was pretty easy you know what the employer share of Social Security is to just put that on top and for for the other positions and that would include the administrators who'd be members of the apartment unit of the Paris and the support staff who are mentioned the secretary's safety Advocate nurses things like that all of those positions were projecting we are at step one step one would be in those years or approaching the contract same thing with the benefits it's blending rate applying with the front car as well so um it wasn't hard to do because we're so close and we have most of those I
054think all of those marketing agreements place that was the staffing agency out there the bossing apprentices that the middle school students and the high school students will continue to have separate runs like they they have now or do not under this scenario of the lending middle schoolers and high schoolers on the same buses and although you'll see you know on the sides of the school buses passenger capacity 65 or 71 that's her Elementary School students for middle schoolers and high schoolers you can only get two of us do it a seat you can't get three and on camera Elementary days the boss is in full capacity to proceed or about 50 students on each of the full-size school buses so that that wasn't a hard calculation either we we definitely a thousand kids uh 50
05560 kids on the bus so that's 20 bosses we have a contract in place with sta where we know price per day per bus so when we just went to the contract to find out what that would be and multiplied by the 1980 days that the school buses are from to and from school so I guess the first uh in summary the projections primarily came from contracts with the the assumptions that I just described restaurants one question about it [Music] necessary that we put the middle school with the high school on the same bus I'm just going to enjoyed by the 60 yeah he's smaller so if that's something that we well the scenario that I presented uh separated [Music] oh I'm sorry I thought they were together maybe foreign [Music] class that's right so
056mandate for graduation so credits in PE so we we will have a gym at the new site but the actual political activities are pretty quickly as we talked about with looking at the international model of this sort of some of the supplemental materials that we would hold inspired to have with our Burger how do we think about willing that cost in here so we have started to do that we you know there's a few things that you would add in that maybe wouldn't normally have uh now so actually we do have it now it's on a smaller scale so for example the CNA students who take the CNA tests so there's a fees that will look better associated with that and then maybe some Preparatory materials that we give our students and so we would
057have that with all of the areas that really offer certification we're going to kind of make sure that we cover the cost of those um that said though we are hoping through business and sponsorship so for example movements is already throwing out there that they kind of help us out with that and take care of those fees so if that is likely to grow across what other business Partnerships that we have similarly we already have companies that are speaking to equipment and donations that they can help establish so things that may be obsolete for them or near obsolete with quickly working and condition for a student to learn and practice on on kind of first generation code is foreign one of the rules when we moved to a new Leadership Model each Academy will have
058its own little mini budget and we'll be working for our time to establish what that is we are going to be moving into the most cost effective way forward as we get started until our Partnerships built you can see or sustain too many extra things that we're hoping to do but there will be some you know some added potential Transportation I think between as we if you want to bring kids out to more places which huge Harvest of getting a bouncy Shadow getting them out to go do some internship experiences or maybe um so if we do anticipate some of that but we will be building sort of mini budgets across Academy now and some of that is formed by the curriculum development as well so as you as you build in learning experiences for
059the students and you say part of this learning experience will be an off-site trip to you have to continue to develop the the costs associated with that to keep you up you've got enough time um the other person I had was a word for August operational thing as far as cost for running the building electrical and other services I don't see any of that here so I'm just wondering listen and also started about yeah so I I do not have a handle on that aspect of it um that's something that with the city will have to partner with who is determining what the cost to run you know the previous costs to run artists at sis with the equipment that's in that building um you know and how with the new additions and the new
060upgrades um you know I'm not sure what grades there are to the you know the air conditioning is the heating and all of that but if there were more efficient models put in that would be you know change sort of the number that would be looking at but we definitely have to work with the city to come up with a cross-test and employee operational costs of that building and equal to a little bit more once once the construction starts and yeah just I keep crying this idea out there because I really would like to see if there's something great I'm certainly willing to volunteer Market I would love to see us invest in solar panels because this building I just think it makes a nice try to limit our future costs especially as far as
061utilities are concerned and even if the federal government is still offered it's on that random house building I think the time I I'm not involved the project that I definitely would encourage that to be brought forward and number speed remind me the grades will be phased in or this is just foreign but we're phasing students in so so um not necessarily we need to hang kids out of DHS okay sooner than later um you know there's a little more flexibility around the middle school side but the issue with that is that you have to staff that building with a nurse within a safety Advocate with a principal so you're not really saving a lot of money to to face that that building in as much as you would say at the high school level but
062we definitely need to move students out of DHS when this building opens we're already going to be 200 students Beyond at least not paper where we are now if not more um and then a year later for our good students so unless we plan on adding portals to Theory High School we're going to be we're already in the series the cafeteria right now is beyond Max now and so in another year but originally the plan was to phase it in right um generally that wasn't fully that wasn't gently decided so much as you know the question was so these are 10th graders coming over so so for example our CNA program will be housed in this in this new location we have we have students who you know that are seniors that whole program should
063come over to to the new site where all the equipment will be located and where I think what we have so you'll already be taking a sizable number of that Academy over to the school she'll have 11th and 12th graders they're not just 10th graders um so we are looking to wholesale move students over as soon as possible we may have to do some negotiation for that depending on how the budget plays out but I think that there certainly is a need to to get those students into that building as soon as possible so this concludes the superintendent update but there's still a lot of discussion we can have around the specifics for the middle school just in terms foreign get into the school process [Music] choose elected with networking so we don't want to
064signal that [Music] process will be but you'll have some work to do on how that's going to management but out of all the kids first if not for our second choice hopefully we don't have to go to the third choice but this school is preparing for these these realities [Music] they'll also revisit it thoughts were standing middle West Side Middle School Lottery and or look in another Lottery type model look at any efficiency in season five I think the last thing we wanted one thing to [Music] think two cells for additional costs with busing and all over the system so you know we have some opportunities to come back and talk about that as well as well exciting things for us I think the point that I heard tonight was with model 365 kids are
065really not finding any of everyone's gonna have to have people certainly they are [Music] awesome certainly there's still some Investments to be made but we can but we can a lot of a lot of let us do that building the questions I just heard from Lauren and Rachel about transitioning for the to be a wholesale legal wholesale at a very wholesale wealthy moves so we can populate a building so it's full [Music] but I'm here from Carrie is we've had programs that with neatly we can we can pull students whether they're in 10th level to 12th grade [Music] but that's only a couple hundred kids though so certainly this is going to depend on the budget but the last I think the last thing I think we want to do is have a building of
06636 3800 still after we've already moved or moved over a couple hundred kids to occupied campus [Music] for staggering we'll talk about 12 million dollars both on what those positions are and how we live in them so give us something to begin at the true water so 12 million is not function there right [Music] now but no no those are all good positions [Music] yes separate from yes [Music] yes that's right yeah John's gonna find the force oh my God nothing tomorrow any other questions before we move on did you go to Japan and put that down I would be happy to so I would like to first you think [Music] go over the goals for the for my office with a 20-year school year somewhat of a departure from another goals that were presented
067years previously opposed to the committee that we the priority plan is something that is at the Forefront of our work to make sure that it was also to ensure the alignment of the plan and my goals the modern foreign that we focus on those five priorities identify action steps on priority to help speak to supervise and evaluate me of course I would be prioritizing those goals with my team I also just so this team this is the stats yesterday [Music] or attack it goals to help to number one provide some kind of alignment plan but two days results as well making sure we do what we say we're going to do and then making sure that staff has an opportunity to review those goals as well so that they also open us accountable as a
068district attorney questions requirement questions of the information [Music] for the first time began to understand how the process is going to go I would just ask for it [Music] was a committee or have a meeting we love things come up but if you just let the chairperson know a terrible being a dentist I certainly would appreciate it so um and I want to thank Carol personally for taking time to make sure that she had folders made for everyone and she did in a very nice to meet sometimes in January of 2020 and thank you Mr Watson because I think the presentation was awesome thank you any other board updates many updates comments questions regular meetings on Monday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving foot lots of committee meetings in between oh yeah Escape convention show of hands
069who's going to the cave convention again okay so we could work that out amongst yourselves thank you for representing us [Music] nothing else motion to adjourn by Kate seconded by Al all those in favor um [Music]
