002and i'll know that um you can't hear me as i talk i want to thank captain for uh taking the minutes uh i don't anticipate a long meeting uh i i think this meeting should be our first thought as to how we'll go about um about the process of evaluating our superintendent and i thank the chairperson for the information that she sent out to make sure that everyone was prepared looked at the the information and red information for tonight so my thing is to get your film as to looking at the timeline that we have to to in um to evaluate the superintendent first as a group to i think that we should come up with uh our own goals look at those goals place those goals with the superintendent goals and then that will
003help us in our former evaluation uh which needs to be completed by the end of june so that's you know i'll open it up for any type of discussion and uh we all had information that our chairperson had uh forward to us we can ask questions concerning the whole cave form there was a short form and there was a very limited one and i think you know rachel has been with us quite a few years on the board and i think if we look at the really lengthy form we can better use the condensed form a little bit but that's us as the group deciding which way that we want to go so uh at this point uh i saw turn it over to our chairperson if she sort of want to add anything else
004to those ones that we i just finished talking about sure um i had envisioned the board um filling out you know our own self-evaluation at the end of the year um and coming back at the beginning of the year to talk through those results um but just want to make sure you know if we're setting any goals that they kind of align with with that process um and then also just to let especially for our new members know you know kind of what the superintendent process looks like there is a truncated timeline within that very long document um is page 11 perhaps there's a recommended evaluation uh timeline flow chart um that is only recommended and um and then following that is you know where you see the first um the page right after that
005page 12 is you know the growth in student achievement followed by educational leadership organizational management community relations and so forth is what we typically use at the end of the year to evaluate the superintendent and and make a written written evaluation to those bullet points um so i don't know if there are any questions or any thoughts concerning the process i think the questions uh i know that they've been given out this week and we've been having meetings all week and i know uh you know we didn't afford to digest and especially our new board members it's a lot of information to digest and you're trying to come to all the other meetings too and digest what's going on so if we look at the time frame where we are now i to me i
006as as if you selected me as a chairperson and and i would do my best to uphold and do what's right as a chairperson and be the leader that you put the confidence in me to do that at our next meeting i will ask that everyone that's on that committee will have gone through all the information and the committee will get together and say okay these are the four goals these are the six goals we would like to come up with as a board and then we will present those goals may be two four six to the entire board so the entire board would know what we're doing and then if the entire board approves it then come uh and over the years that i've been over the uh been on the board we've always
007uh managed to complete the superintendent evaluation process about the first course no later than the second week in june so if we look at the time frame and what we need to do how we need to work as a committee and then bring this back to the board get their approval and then at at another point then we will sit down or the chairperson can sit down with the superintendent and and do what we need to do to make this process work for the board and uh our leader so that's where i'm sort of coming from and when you say when to set goals you're talking about our own board goals right our own board goals okay so committee members should come back with a few board goals that they'd like to to be considered
008right right that's what i'm asking you know if everyone is in agreement with that because you know i might bring one goal so uh kate might bring two or three and then we as a board work together and look at those goals because i know everyone has the superintendent goals whether you have them with you right now uh have studied them we can look at them and see what will work both for us as a board and what's going to match with the superintendent goes and that should be uh our goal are there any questions so i do i have a question are we basing it off of the list that you've given us in this or off of the superintendent's goals of what he provided us with or we're doing both we're good we're
009doing our own goals not so much we can look at the his goals yes but you don't want to bring anything that's going to be con conversa that's not the right word you know uh to his goals so you know we can look at his goal and then we can set our goals as the group and then we bring it to the entire board because the entire board will have to uh vote on okay um if i'm understanding correctly and i'm just repeating this for my own benefit here so apologies if everybody's gotten this already but um if in order to like put our own goals together you know we have to look at sort of like what what we're supposed to be doing as a board but we also have to look at how
010that work is being conducted alongside what the superintendent is setting us as his goals for the district um because those two things dovetail is that correct yes okay thank you and then so um now i have a question i guess as far as like the process because obviously we just had some folks uh join the board in january um we're not going to be able to do a mid-year evaluation on that timeline so would we be doing our own board self-evaluation um alongside the evaluation for the superintendent at the end of the year or would we would we be looking at some kind because you know according to this we would be starting that board self-evaluation again in you know at the end of the summer okay i'm sorry i'm thinking about roles and responsibility
011that's uh i think our chairperson has set up for march so okay okay i'm sorry kate go ahead and finish your question no that that was it i just want to get a sense of like you know we're going to set these goals for the board um and i'm just wondering what your thoughts are as far as when we would conduct that board self-evaluation if we do if we would do that alongside the evaluation we're also doing for mr wallston when we do the superintendent evaluation at the end of the year um knowing that when we come back in you know september or even at the end of august we would be looking to restart that process of the board self-evaluation again and set new goals at least according to the the timeline that's in

013that they committed to get together and come back and we have those goals that we are sort of suggesting as a group and look at because we don't want to get into april may and graduations and all the other things are going on and we don't have time to put the amount of time that we need to do because to me this is not a rush uh committee that you have to come in and rush and do things and sometimes it has been in the past we had to take an extra two or three meetings to really get things done so uh i'm just sort of looking at a date that we can come together as a group and bring together uh our own goals and then we can sort of see where we're at
014what would be the next step and we have to sort of look at stay with the time frame okay i know the time frame we don't have to abide by but you know there's a reason why we have a time frame so for me the first week in march would be a lot easier than the end of february because i'm going to be away the end of february so i don't know if that's agreeable to other folks as well okay whenever you set a time it's okay with me if i'm alive so is there what date in march march 2nd is ash wednesday okay so that's in the first week if that's what you're considering the first week because it is february 28th and march 1st same time march 1st work for you that's a
