[Music] do [Music] do [Music] so [Music] do [Music] so [Music] so [Music] oh awesome welcome class of 2021 congratulations we would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our broadview families to mayor cavo to the board members rachel chaleski i think kate cornett's back there mr fusco also to our superintendent sal pasquerella who i don't know if you know this is his last year so let's give him a round of applause [Applause] and kevin walston our assistant superintendent i just want to just ask you all to stand for the singing of the pledge excuse me it's a star spangled banner and the best part about this it would be sung by our eighth grade students [Music] is bursting in air gave proof through the night that a flag was still there [Music] all
right that was wonderful and just i just their names are in the program but i do want to acknowledge them again sophia trilelli yamaya claxton and aliyah calderon for singing our star single banner thank you ladies i am so blessed to be at this amazing school you may sit down i'm so blessed to be at this amazing school you have this is just a special community of staff students and parents and i thank you for all your support especially during this crazy time called covet the impact of covet had like a major impact on a lot of us physically mentally socially emotional helps and it was almost devastating yet covet tried to rob us of many things like in person learning and the simple things for my eighth graders like eating in the cafeteria or
walking side by side in the hallways or our favor gathering at the lockers you missed those wonderful things and having those conversations but one thing covet could not steal and parents i need you to hear this loud and clear it could not still steal any of our desire to bounce back we have some of the most resilient children i have ever met in my life and they have bounced back and they have come out and i don't have to tell you look out here that's evidence showing you that they were able to make it all the way through so this is not a funeral this is a celebration and i'd like to take time to give them a round of applause [Applause] we had a lot of things that we tried to go back to
and it was difficult because of our size but we did have an eighth grade ceremony and we honored a few students i'm going to ask those students if they can stand up we have their names in the program you know who you are you got an 8th grade award and don't worry about the first person standing up just stand up don't let me start calling names thank you we're very proud of our students and once again it's in the programs guys you could sit down thank you nelson mandela states that education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world i'm showing you we have change l agents right in front of us kids that are going to go out there and do some great things and i'm so proud of
them so our goal is to get you out of this hot sun so i'm going to call up and i'm so glad to have our mayor of danbury the esteemed mayor cabo good evening and thank you all for being here and thank you for inviting me here dr pescarella assistant superintendent wallston principal thomas thank you very much it's my honor and privilege to be with you here tonight i'm not going to speak very long i'm just going to echo some of the sentiments that principal thomas spoke about this pandemic in the last 15 months showed how resilient and how strong and how we can overcome anything if we put our minds to it and we put our will to it and you did that you showed that you proved that and you're here today to
reap the rewards of all your hard work and your effort you know as you go into high school it's going to be much harder work but you showed that you have the ability to handle that work and you'll be able to handle it well and so as a city we're very proud of each and every one of you and all your accomplishments we wish you well as you go into the summer we wish you a happy and safe and fun summer and we need to thank your parents your teachers your educators for all the support that they've given you throughout these years to get you to this point where you're moving up and so congratulations from the city of danbury thank you for all that you've done keep up the good work and we look
forward to seeing you in the years to come thanks very much next we will have to address the class of 2021 our assistant superintendent of schools kevin wallston good evening everyone and congratulations uh broadview middle school so let me find my glasses and i will get started dr thomas told me i only had a couple minutes to talk so thank you dr thomas administrative team staff parents and families board members miss rachel celeski miss kate canetta mr russo mayor cavo and of course dr pasquerella and our students here this evening it is a pleasure to be here celebrating with you so i had the pleasure of being part this is my third graduation that i'm part of today and i had shared earlier at our middle school graduation that one of my favorite things to
do is read stories going into the elementary schools to our k-5 students don't worry i know that you guys are not elementary school students and i decided to share a story that i thought was appropriate for a middle school moving up ceremony story is called a gathering storm you started your middle school journey as tiny droplets of water you were small and aimless enter in a building you didn't know with some others who had you had never met after those first few years and days and classes some of you became attached to each other together you started to form small clouds each group working together to survive as you grew and matured these clouds started coming together you found ways to move together and work together to create amazing things you look past your minor
differences to see greatness you could achieve when hundreds of individuals came together you were a force to be reckoned with but not feared a tiny rainstorm dropped heavy dropped creativity and knowledge wherever you went as the years went on this small storm gathered strength you you spoke louder you ask more questions you let it be known you are as individ you are an individual as well as a group more students joined in bring in more strong winds of change and excitement all of the elements all the elements of our collective storm have gathered and you are ready to tackle high school as in one awesome force i call it pride determination and quality together you will take high school by storm scooping up every ounce of fun and education in your path to the graduation
class of 2025 i challenge you to move forward with pdq pride determination and quality goodbye for now but i certainly see another storm coming in four years collectively i'll see you guys again in 2025. congratulations all right we are very fortunate because we will we have a music department that's not just the one of the best in danbury i always say they're the best but they're one of the best in danbury um they are working with a group of our students and they're getting ready to perform a song called the middle and featured in there will be glenn anderson jacob amante and jaden fogo so boy guys if you told me we're going to take that long i would've like gave a little more intro but we're very proud of them and what they can
do come on up gabe aiden come on jaden while they get set up i'll tell you a quick jaden story when jayden was in sixth grade sorry jayden jaden was in sixth grade and i went into his class and he was in an ela class and he had this t-shirt on that says leader of the pack and i said you know what that just defined this class leaders of the pack so jaden you thought it was going to be negative i had a good story whenever you guys are ready [Music] don't [Music] try everything you can and don't it just takes some time [Music] it just takes some time [Music] it just takes some [Music] will be time [Music] oh [Music] do everything you can [Applause] it just takes some fine time everything will be
all right [Music] i told you they were the best nice job guys thank you so much and to our students did you hear that kid on the guitar glen anderson amazing and our drummer a lot of that came from our little kid rock program that we started in danbury and our kids got to play all different types of instruments so we're really proud of them now we're going to have the best part i'm going to call our assistant principles up ms rinaldi and miss parentagas and our guidance counselors mr dewanta well let me do it in order mrs paleyola hey mr dewant no miss rodriguez and mr dewanta and they're going to be doing the presentation of certificates this is the best part so okay good evening everyone my name is sheri prendergast i'm one

you fanning i'm going to really get you out but i have to acknowledge a couple people first of all mr donovan who actually had this all set up for us he's the principal at danbury high school and he allowed us to be able to take his field and to do this promotion service he didn't do that we probably wouldn't have a promotion service so i wanted to acknowledge him today also mr miller who is um our he's our everything he does our programs he he does a wonderful job with all the video and i wanted to thank him and his team because they've been helping us out a lot during this so mr miller wherever you are take a bow and um of course no principal can do this by themselves and if they think
they can then they shouldn't be a principal i have to be honest with you if i didn't have the support that i have from my assistant principals ms rinaldi and miss pentegas i don't know what i would do so i have a strong administrative team and dr sal have you to thank for that i'd like to give them a round of applause as well [Applause] and just a side note this whole promotion was put together by one of our guidance counselors and i can't thank mr dawanta enough for what he did he took on this whole thing only thing i had to do was show up i didn't have to carry a box or anything it was amazing because parents helped me with that mr dembonta can you stand up for that please [Applause] and
once again our counselors i don't know what i do i have some of the best counselors if you guys could just stand up real quick just to take an applause as well our secretaries are working they worked hard in the school putting the programs together doing the um promotions uh miss spool and miss balco i wanted to thank them and miss balco was retiring this year in case you didn't hear so we're really kind of sad about that and of course our amazing pto who actually bought backpacks for all of our students which are going to be needing them in the fall so i can't thank my pto enough for everything they do [Applause] eighth graders at this time i know you maybe felt like this point wasn't going to come that you maybe struggling
but i'm saying to you right now that you made it and you did a great job and if you look side to side there are some people that didn't make it there are some of your friends that didn't they're not here right now and the reason why is because you took this challenge to the next level you did what you were supposed to do and you earned the spot that you're sitting in so i just like to take the time to congratulate you and this is what's going to happen the music department is going to sing another song with some assistance from our students and then after their song i'm going to come up and then i'm going to say some really cool words like real quick cool words and then all of a sudden
we're going to actually process off and 8-3 since you were the last group in you will be the first group out okay so let's have our music department [Music] i learned to be ashamed i won't let them break me down the dust i know that there's a place to rise [Music] i am who i meant to be this is me this house is [Music] this is me [Music] is [Music] [Applause] [Music] this is me [Music] gonna [Music] i am who i meant to be this is [Music] this is me congratulations guys we love you that is awesome all right 8th graders do me a favor please stand up please turn around and face your parents give them the biggest applause on earth because they are the reason you are here thank you broadview parents we
