001[Music] I love the teachers here at Mason tearing and help us when we need help [Music] we love trying out these things in the class [Music] like the great bonds that you can make with the students and teachers [Music] so I just want to thank my staff for coming and the families that came up to support us um it is it's a great pleasure every day to get to come to work with such amazing people and our kids are very happy to be there and that's what it's about so thank you thank you that system that step that six years before a lot leadership principles I can't thank you enough for the earliest letting us do that you know last thing this would great in the summer because we see the great kids and caring

002about the south thank you very much [Music] okay so good evening I'm allergic awesome she came out here with their Arab section destiny we're here today to talk about this month so on January 10th the gamer girls for like food facts in red states best performance for the large school any time of one minute and 46 seconds another congratulations to Tigers are entering the negative Soccer Coaches all new even work on the 20th of January the Danbury boys wrestling team won against MA in 1829 to 1837 by the NHS APA on January 17th three weeks ago the Mogollon club at HS took part in the Yale harder UN conference as they do every year our Ryoji treasurer decided to back at the studio was an iron affiliate and Victoria wolf Anderson won first place in

005committee as I'd mentioned I believe a couple weeks previous that aboard me made the team aware the district reason is a recipient of our foundation grant this grant allows us to go out and quite frankly to the work right so last year as part of the strategic planning process we have we were trying to incorporate the market the ratchet work is part of that process we recognize and acknowledge that portable graduate work quite frankly requires a significant lift position and so we were made aware of a grant to help us move this work forward you'll learn in a couple of weeks when we should be playing before important commonplace in the plan in this evening specifically a launch report for the record and so to my right is the steering committee I'm happy to say

006we are in good hands with teacher attend student leadership and I'm going to start with student initiative and so two of the faces you'll recognize because they are on our board and so Clara Thank You Clara and then Larissa who you just heard it to Italy to speak and then we also have KC to their left basically and then Nick who was also at one of our CY our PTO B's most recently some of the board members might remember everyday and so we have a number of administrators on the team as well some of them are here this evening some other or not associate principal dr. marks was a high school principal Rivera from South Stream elementary school principal Weber from ACE assistant principal for raise from Rogers Park Middle School and of course dr.

007Meade was in the back somewhere director family I believe at a previous meeting I had also shared and we'll also partner with the center Connecticut Center school change on this consultant working without district she is also working other districts that help lead this work in those districts for me this country's Nelson she couldn't be bestest evening that you will be seeing her at some point early work and then of course last but not least during a very capable hands two teachers from the high school and that is at least Tobin and great play so thank you team okay so I have the pleasure of introducing it first two slides and then we will presentation will be underway and so we have a few learning targets this evening I want to share so one is familiarize

008you with the concept of the community orchard undergraduate to explain how to portrait the Graduate fits in with the law to work with amber of public schools and three inspire you to embark on a journey to advance all learners all students to the highest potential so you may be wondering you may be wondering what a community of work community worker actually is right so essentially sorry I was using my teacher voice with my microphone is the skills knowledge and also the the disposition is what we were often referred to as soft skills right that are value not only by schools right but also by the community this is a community whatever we have people from my elementary all the way up to high schools often high school all aces as well and there are skills

009that are critical for college career community right so where ever should go once they have graduated we want them to be advancing all right so I'm sure the question is because we've had a number of initiatives over the last year and a half and the question I'm sure for many folks in our community is project initiative goals and so I'd like to bring your attention to the cycle that you see in front of you you might recall during the 1718 school year ramp that work helped us to get down to the community into being engaged stakeholders and talk about inequities in our districts and begin to determine uncover why we were experiencing those inequities and try to identify solutions to that work and so at the beginning of 1819 school year superintendent charge of the

010team were beginning to develop a strategic plan in December of 2018 we engaged close to 50 stakeholders in the community and those stakeholders we solicited feedback from over 50 community members to help inform our digital vision and mission in Division we landed always am very public schools aspires to advance all learners to their highest potential and then with that vision in order vision forward we develop a mission statement in which they're very public schools in partnership with families and the community provides transformational learning experiences designed to nurture thoughtful and prepare graduates and so the vision and mission work and oftentimes communities will see a vision in a mission and not really sure how the vision and mission of of the operationalize like what does that really look like we are seeing that for certain graduated

011as a way to operationalize deficiency so if folks are wondering what that looks like we are seeing by identifying the skills knowledge and dispositions of a Danbury graduate we're able to articulate a collective vision for all students in further operationalize decision by shaking student learning experiences and so previously you are Cairo you've heard Melissa talk about Palin when talking about his learning experiences once you have a 450 graduate you know perhaps we can have academies health of Khan Academy since our fight experience of the community so we are envisioning once we have a portion of record in place then that would help inform curriculum writing that will help inform what experiences it'll look like in our community or when initial we have that first and then last but not least one might ask how is

012the equity work thinking all of this and so when we are designing learning experiences we want to make sure there is equitable access all the students in those learning experiences and so we're seeing this this will be in cyclical in nature connected all throughout the equity piece to something that's all throughout all the works and the implementation of the strategic plan we will be back in front of you about a month we now will experiment it warm out with those strategies so our big question today is who this portrait serve as a student of different high school I'm invested in students like myself students such that students such as the members of the class of 2020 one-play myself we will be graduating soon this here is a view my classmates that will soon be graduating

013and venturing out into the world well fortunately our work is not all about just the Danbury high school we need to think about all of the students and they are a public schools we need to think about the future that is featured here at Rogers mark middle school these are some of the students whose education can pretend to shaped by the river it is written for this work to the district why we need to the portion of direct graduates help shape the education of students we're just already here in Denver Public Schools these are students who can be shaped by a portion of the program's work and helped in achieving their dreams so what are some of these changes what do they monitor themselves let's hear it from the source why do you want to

014be if I hear me you like to protect animals [Music] wonderful so those are their dreams into these students will enter kindergarten this year will graduate in 2032 the bulk of their work life will be in the second half of the 21st century what will these students need when they graduate 20 30 to fill these dreams what do you think you need to learn how to do well in school to be a great teacher [Music] to learn anything in school that's going to help you so that is our question it's hard for us and we are adults and that is where the portrait or graduate comes into play so it's up to us the community to create the environment in which they can achieve those dreams so what will these students need in 2032 we

015are asking you to help us in creating this vision now that we know what it is how do you fit into this so we want your input everybody see any why didn't put on this project and then talking to oppositional groups students alums business leaders community kind of transformational change without me mrs. Wallace in this way yeah they weren't going to change for some time now we would also ask that you participate in these opportunities we'd also have also asked you to be our voices anything that people under the reports to regret it is we sell it and try to work so long term it invite no means is the fortunately graduate ready now to be leveraged during the budget season but but certainly moving forward once we have a proportion in place we we

016envision the portrait work playing a significant role in budget during the budget season and so if the community has bought in to community to the community portion of the Graduate then we would have to acknowledge the fact that we're going to have the resource to ask annually to make this happen the doctor Pascarella prior to this meeting talked about an inverted triangle in which he's talked extensively about students who have come today to the community have been very easy in terms of resources that they need right and so part of our acknowledgement is if we're going to realize the dreams that we talked about in our opening slides particularly we're sitting going 2032 if these students are going to be the out Dan very proportions of the graduates we're gonna have to resource programmers in

017ways that possibly we have not done before and so we're acknowledging that our students are coming in needed and so kids they believe at first second third grade ready to learn to read in order to project as graduates later wrong we don't resource legal investment early then any portrait that we're going that we envision is not going to be workers and so part of our campaigning annual campaign would be to point back to the portrait of the graduate that this community has designed and continue to get behind that and continue to ask the city as the district as the board to resources yeah so leaves us with how can you reach out to us if you have any questions you can feel free to reach out to us if you email we have up here

018it's PG purports to private and well I see PWS and really email us if you have questions and concerns around this as we do this work preparing for our first of all any questions for the spirit to be sure I feel like we just went through this so many of the work from prior Smitty our community engagement can that be used or is this a totally different outlook to to the poor kid see feelings inaccurate because we definitely just went for this and so as part of our March for the strategic planning efforts we asked for feedback from the community to help inform the characteristics of a corporate depression but we applied for the grants one of the first things they told us was we appreciate the fact that you guys have done this work

019but you have to start over if you're going from the incipio this way and and if part of the rationale was that even in a year it can be significant shifts in an industry that could change the community's perception of what ridership so we were encouraged he wants to acknowledge the work that was done but it can't necessarily be it'll slide it over I mean you know we explained to them we would anillo the work at the other reasons we received the grant the fact that we went to the work and if we did not receive the grant we wouldn't continue to divinity or gang with but they also made a question for students just curious 22 you graduate admission knowing this plan out doing in high school tells us this means when we're even

020making videos for portrait of the graduate they asked me MPC like what do you guys want to be and I want to be a social worker and then when they asked what resources what you need even I was stumped at the question so at least know we have a project in motion that would help us identify actually you and me would help 90 been just like seniors about to leave but freshmen and sophomore kids at middle school area help you know school as well yeah because some kids already like at five years old no they want to do like they want to be a police officer that might change but some kids already likes destined to become something so with that they should already know what attributes would help so any assistant leave quickly about

021the students tomorrow carriages reminded me that last year as part of our you know we may work and then also it's part of this grant one of the conditions works that student voice is elevated in this in this portrait of the graduate and so oftentimes we'll talk about the fact and I'll brag about the fact because we were excited in crowd fact that we had 150 stakeholders it's part of this session to help it long division in addition remember say mister we have no spoons and meanwhile I think I've been in two or three meetings with these young people to my right and they there were meetings it's totally shifted the conversation because of their feedback but I think after the first meeting they were comfortable enough to push back and make sure that their

022points was heard and this was considered in the conversation and so we were mindful that they need to be at the table in shape in this new just unfortunate original that was one of the names when talking to them about her experience and when they recognized that we didn't have students have to pay what they've got to offer that they remind those people to meet we also will have students that are are the students to my right are very academically successful very involved in the school forget about students as well who commit fit different categories of involvement and their feelings that education is relevant right may not match so yes [Music] no our new budget speaks to a lot of money we're spending in the culture and climate talking about how do you think that

023my I mean I think that I think there are a number of things I know as a teacher one of the key struggles that I see in the classroom and maybe you can tell me if you've seen this in your own is a lack of connection between what they are learning and how that is going to be applicable why are they learning I have a contemporary list open am I going to have to write a sonnet right so this work is taking write what students actually meet figuring out what they actually need to learn and then being able to as much as well so we say fund programs that then give that back right so then culture and climate when the students are more engaged in the work the climate is better I mean that's

024that's the biggest lever right engagement I least from my perspective it's engagement and so you can't just say oh let me get a new let me just get a new one a novel so you really engaged in this Hunger Games or whatever it is it's not necessarily just a new or even bulk it's a completely different approach a transformational approach and so how do you get that you have to start somewhere and figure out what that has to be I think what you're attractive because every I mean I've heard so many students like questions what we're learning as to how it's gonna help them in the future and I just think this show because once once a graduate have sound like their last step look once they graduate with the good education point that how

025how we want stamp very public schools education to go they're going to graduate and come back and help the community like we're teaching the students like grow the growers and pictures can you tell me about that yelps are you babe set ask her happened um so I am I tutored this kid and me out doing math problems with him and he's doing looks like a patient right now and I was showing him I was like drawing a race so he can learn how to do that and instantly he's like oh no like you don't need that and then he goes oh Alexa what's ten times so he just thinks like technology he just relized right on that and given the intern to decide that's not to say they don't need basic math skills right but

026just to say youngsters are using the temp right and so how do you incorporate that how do we actually use that as a skill and teach them how to call that information rather than just a quick forward [Music] could anybody give me a simple definition as to what is portrait of graduates so that I can have that as a takeaway is that a concept is that a program about your attitude my own mind so I would say so this is how I would define it what skills what knowledge is what dispositions do we all value that we need students to have when they leave school it could be something like integrity or it could be something like critical thinking skills maybe broad categories and then what you do is you take those broad categories and

027you can just have discrete skills to meet them and then where the hope is you use that right you use that to drive institutional systemic changes does that or know it that's what you you can yeah you cannot say that you have to reduce it to a more simplistic Oh have takeaways so that you know within 30 seconds or a great thing people can support this and Evon understand what is I keep harping on the point right you're an academic person is students that academic pure are getting injured oh you've got to reduce it down to a common something's that there are students needs and see you know whether it's it's a whether it's a skill sale or something that helps them for the to being adult you know I don't want some tonight I'm

028just saying sure I've been struggling in that heaven is to reduce it to something simple in non-academic for Boulevard situations so that the rolls off your tongue very very easily so we we will watch this committee what do you leave by the town that time you graduate these are the dispositions of characteristics of the students that they've acquired over there k12 yeah we're driving it with the question of what do our students need to have to know in order to be successful in college we didn't - oh it's it's really just painting that picture of how we answer that question and the work of the coalition in the work of steering video for the next you know that person you know the shows are and you know and getting all the stakeholders to played a

029role in figuring out that story that we said you know this is what have you could be have and it's going to lead a transformational change in curriculum instruction and assessment this is going to change the way through Plus you know how you account for integrity so we have to think about how that's going to work and it's comfortable with the coalition as we start to build I'm just trying to be supportive because we say that the easier to have people understand what you're buying again sir sorry if I may be the very is simply I'm saying like the easiest way to describe it um would be the ideal characteristics and skills that a student you graduate with and although maybe right now we don't have necessarily those skills and here versus to find that's

030that's our goal for this is to find those but I would say some ice and ask what is the course of your graduate I would say it would be that but if the ideal skills and characteristics that once you've activated it and then I think this be complicating factor in this is we're talking about the students were graduating 2032 so we're not just talking about the students were graduating 2020 so we're we're talking about a future without even ready for ourselves so we're just a suggestion that can be a meaningful definition to have on here being captured you got your vision the for that mission statement you have a summary as to what this encompasses because you aren't you weren't talking about today you're talking about the future boy appreciate that because you had me

031make you slogan is just do it right it's not right there were the time to get the souls that make you move [Music] [Applause] I'd like to do is to make a motion at this time that the Board of Education adopt the superintendent's fiscal 2021 budget as presented for submission to the mayor and as required by the city charter any questions yes so things I wanted to state this point that I think can go without saying but this is just such an important budget anyway number one it's my to express how strongly I support this budget and number two you know I think I could speak its name is that this is just the beginning of a very long road ahead that's what the mayor and the mayor has to agree that everything in this

032minor is justified that needs to go the council and we need to I define 11 votes to confirm the mayor of town or 14 votes to change something so you know and there's a lot to ask and I think at this time you know this budget being where the artists in the school right now this is the largest monetary ask I think that we've ever had and I think that just speaks to where we are in this district and you know kind of the reality of this district and you know this but it is more than just numbers on page this is I think our declaration that were in play and we need to play and we can't do that alone I know I do but I'm on this ward sworn oath to advocate for

033public education and pledge to public education and I know that we're all going to do it but especially for this legend the enemies to be there across the board but we and mr. dinelli has the community relationship has been his face for years and I think we really need to push to get funky balls so we need cells to City Hall and you know I mean history tells the history tells us anything is their minds are already made up I don't think they've approved a recommended board budget in the past so it's gonna be up to us to fight to change their minds and you know I'm just glad without work that I thought were number senator but you're not even saying members of the council in the audience that I know will do anything

034for hope education is a ready to fight and I hope that I know you get this budget through by yourself this is just that I just want to pay court gene-rich all the work that went into all of our meetings we had you know Finance Committee and several workshops before we got to this place and everything register including the full board through the workshops ask questions it's just on the brain but echo on what I said the other night this budget being the largest monetary asked along with the recent bond tour so that with state reimbursement Wilkin County million additions to this ten billion is a big map of our local taxpayers and is to make up for the shortcomings of a fail east guess formula that is going to take ten year implementation based

035on all data if the face and each year it's truly not based on current data I questioned whether we should be asking for it even more I celebrated he's guest spacing so just to put that out there that I fully support the ask to accelerate these yes timeline but meanwhile we face a dire situation for our kids that are PR meant to serve and it's our job to act at all levels and in all levels which is why I will support this budget well 10 million seems like an exorbitant amount this is not the largest percentage amount that we've ever requested in the past 20 years however in keeping with being realistic the city does have its limitations just like the state I mentioned this last year sometime last year that danburrys not the same

036as Norma or Stanford and I found the same taxis in my opinion per pupil expenditure across towels is not really comparing apples to apples either and it does not reflect all of the money that the city puts thanks to our schools it is important to realize that we will have to meet some tough choices at the end of this very long process last night I was blown away by doctors ìletís stories apart when I wish about a student coming from a remote part of Mexico only speaking in my entire elect another student from Brazil only you know coming in at the middle school level only having a few years of somewhat of an education that really that really struck me but for people to really cure our playing I think we need to focus on

037the stories that are actually affecting people versus numbers I can last night's presentation was very well done it was comprehensive it was compelling you should bring dr. Selda along with you when you present this to mayor and I hope the council will see it as we do [Music] thank you and let the echo Rachel's confidence first rich thank you very much for all the work you did on this this is the easiest committee I ever had in that much chair because you did all of the work and a special thanks to Courtney because you did a great job on this and what's even more amazing is your very little time money this because you just kind of and this is hard this is absolutely in support of this budget this is the mattress the budget

038that we this isn't the budget it's a budget need and it's not needing we don't need this budget to do more we just need the budget we need this budget to just do what we're supposed to do to restore what we've lost and to meet our obligations to our kids and yeah we're not Stanford the comparing us to Stanford or Greenwich for Sharon and Kwan most probably but it perfectly apples to apples it's perfectly okay to comparison Meredith that's perfectly located in the comparison or a hand in or some of the other Peter talents weren't dead last with school funding and that's kind of change and it's kind of cheating so it's gotta change soon we do need more money other state of Connecticut there's no doubt about that I'm happy to go and jump

039up and down in the lobby of our state for money but I'm also happy to go and jump up and down the lobby are sitting for more money and be frankly Hannah so we wouldn't need a 7.3 4% increase this year if in the past 1 2 3 4 5 6 in the past 6 years budget requests of a four point eight nine percent increase were reduced for one point people or four point five nine was introduced 1.78 before 0.72 was introduced the one point seven ninety five point four five to three point one two or five point eight five reduce to two point lead or last year five point eight five reduced to three 2004 in other words we are here because the board presented responsible budgets in years past that were cut now

040they weren't cut for Mallove's they weren't cut for meanest and were cut because nobody cared that they were cut they were what they they were what they are and they are what they are we are where we are we need this one and yeah even more from the state more from the city I'm very excited about the commitment we've seen from other elected officials outside of this organization to education this year and we're going to need to go and we're going to need to ask them to utter that commitment carry it forward for this budget happy to go advocate for this again Thank You Courtney and rich and dr. Sean Carroll County for telling us what we need why on my board thank you favorite mooching around here I'm all right [Music] so much that

041group that was here in school that was really transitioned one year second year because of the resiliency both teachers in their passion they've come through I'm just proud again and it just blows me away to say again this sentence was a distinction you all heard those negative word we had slide from working where they're talking about the literacy books and they're coming from the teachers on the shelf and they do it eagle um you know the national average that was about four miles and did you spend and it just happens and I know what he was saying before I hope together we work together to resources in this agenda I've given you is a statement at the end that's a pretty work Connecticut Elsevier decoration very much issue resources the Alliance school districts and as

042an alliance district preschool experience bilingual services reading and math intervention science materials certificate services and our trustees who have sustained growth net for Texas Education discovered that says God and our people with that I get calls from the other school principals I mean I've got see stuff from Chris detected in the analysis across the state I wanted to serve we go I'm on it and yet they step up they haven't achieved so when we go forward with a budget this year we'll be talking about celebrating this and people will turn around and say you know has good sense if you need this money just think do whatever you want it's whatever what we have in these schools of distinction to the board meeting and also the Hartford forget to give them a certificate because we

043really you wanna use the names no stash when you're doing that unit of these today in Hartford is Tuesday April 22nd I think I'm very good say that when you talk with some interest rates this is pretty important to get a good representation up there we'll have our kids up there that's what the dissection those would be a spec school of knowledge primary exhausted school career playing school austin avenue and standard school and a is or there's a school distinction I got a from reporter saying oh I see there's a problem with the finding math teachers and we were fortunate last year we were looking at a program [Music] sure so tomorrow evening we have you know launching our partnership with NYU with a very high school at six o'clock there we will have will

044be representatives from NYU speaking to the partnership the partnership allows us to party partner with the University University of go out and recruit things who have a bachelor's degree and are considering a career in education the program is an online master's degree program however staff faculty from NYU they work with the students and help them go through a one year professional development program given our commitments equity culture confidence in anyways we are aligned with the values that but has it's really a partnership the tuition is it comes at a cost however in what you is working with anyone who's interested in domestic degree they market identified scholarships and grants to help subsidize the tuition successfully after that the candidates have the program they are in of course apply for a position anywhere but as part

045of the partnership it will be in our school community working as mentees members are certified teachers and so across this part of the community we will be recruiting regionally and throughout the state of Connecticut in hope that at the end of the program they will stay near Denver and so in many ways we are seen as an opportunity to try and land more networks candidates and also help us to build is and so we are starting at the secondary levels at the secondary focus program so we're starting specifically and very high school supplies of smartness will be a one it won't be a successful business named partnership in one who need to know we were West huh connections this is just another branch going out I mean second career folks do that in different mindset

046giving the science mathematics [Music] and just as some context to the point [Music] is a program called the UFC teaching fellows to Maxim I worked in the OCD I found a lot of successful teachers from that program the person who's actually leaning in my view ever or president and designer above the teaching post or giving the OSI and so she's had a lot of success with a second career like locusts and you know the area this partnership here in florida new york and number school are we're actually there personally so they're excited about the partnership typically comes as a significant cost the district to partner Sal worked his magic minutes at no cost for us we just have to commit to bring them in our assessment district because people substitutes [Music] however they do want

047an informational said make sense I'd love to go to my 22 tenth year but we looked at those new students that came in and we did some number crunching and we're good all had almost acquitted out to the wedding that would we need at least two realizing five five million dollars which [Music] I did seven great story it's reasonable and commissioning was down and talked with him he certainly got and we're going to presented soon as well the odds of that when I asked you Randy when your acceleration on orbits that they was [Music] also if you look at the attachment when we had the mayor legislated and the commission of high schoolers talked about presentation we gave them this member delegation emergency assistance I've added something to it city today in light of last

048night's meeting I'm living that should have a page last page okay number three it reads the district request assistant with the lease costs and building which are required to the short term and short term of accommodated media questions since it's impossible to instruct any project to accommodate rejected wrong the ignition is further if appropriate for permission permit a lease purchase agreement which would be health of the state reimbursement to accommodate account rejected so if you go through our facilities today and you decide you wanted to set a bill and least something when we approach this about seven eight or nine years ago it was a dead no get argue here that there's a need the state wants to step up and find the building that we think would work instead of going from the ground

049up then they from going to release it or purchase it and then reimburse gentlemen gamma-ray burst as real estate a chance so today Antonio mackerel right away this is what we're going up to the legislators and maybe their relationship next Thursday and we'll be talking about this and then again [Music] probations public airing tomorrow you know I got the education agenda in fact I think I sentence you know felt my sending out annually the seed of kids and the appropriation committee and the Education Agency their eyes gardens highest priority which wasn't even get through system school districts leadership is working here focus I don't know appropriation [Music] yes some of you may see on that today The Associated Press picked up an article about refugees you talk about the samurai action the Office of Civil

050Rights may conduct an investigation over the last several months into whether or not you buy - a total 90 for transgender students to be competing against our gross track athletes and whether or not their competition in those arenas as their product growth and access to Title I that this meaning scholarships trophies or words and one of the students involved is in her high school student we actually say from The Associated Press article that it has been said that the district Aaron three have been named in a federal lawsuit one of them will be our district we have not received service yet of that complaint but expect that it's coming and velocity sues the sto that Miss yep going to get initial a state association foetidus just for their rules that buy-in nice work and also

051these three other words of education we had pencil represent English throughout the OCR anticipation that will continue they just wanted to also be aware that and I suspect that service with it huh be able to bring information to publication strategy and do we collaborate again to district says to gravity yes in fact option even misrepresenting all additionally it's all created district and also yeah so they her economies of scale and solicits fun and it really I think was the origin we adjusted it would've mentioned it not to care this is just more of a general update I'm excited to share with everyone over here mark mentioned the notion of a trip to Nashville personal numbers and I might explain a little develop that was that is in considering that I think just just prior to

052the Washington over mean a presentation about college career clusters and pathways to remember these documentaries wasn't even a long presentation about the importance of preparing our graduates attend explain that some of the culture to graduate worked at that it's happening and the timeliness of us looking for space in the community and what that stasis the power when you utilize that space so we do have a small group that were able to put together our representative to travel to the head of the Nashville they do post other school districts twice a year us in the fall in the spring so mark about their background will be attending teaching 20 from the chamber Congress dr. Tsao diamond in high school was to be do as a center coordinator it's also in charge of our history the state

053gives us money for college and careers with CTE and that is a grant that basically leads to some of this and also probably better some other grant funding myself I'm going and it's going up on the board so the recent mine so chosen is because in order to transform what our learning our learning systems look like Frank and really transform that need everybody to be important to have much painful that is so that much folks are you know we can't begin a receivable of steering committee 2020 task we need all these views but we have folks who are educating the division that where the used include go and what we want to look like then they will see things differently and say I try try to find some things last night about using a new

054penis space differently in buildings in town that could be used to come and repurpose for educational purposes and so I'm hoping that those Tripathi folks who are firmly out other other town committees to be to spark ideas into collaborative the school district not only that this mission forward together exhibit it doesn't happen by sharing these ideas alone in isolation with other educators involves business community partnerships and involves computation in finance folks and our mayor leadership in our solution and so I'm hoping that we build a vision together we share with that but it's amazing it is a national model and as I finally articulated visit dizzy visit visiting many of the different pathway high schools that are part of the Nashville International metro area and in the arriving March 9th through 11th is the actual

055main conference there is one evening prior to that conference on March 8th that a couple of us will be attending there some additional three conference activity related to this that is our educator focus as opposed to nice to know there are career exploration pieces and what was the other evening Freshman Seminar how to set up the Freshman Seminar for exploration I get students to understand how to select pathways get excited about those so we are going down there to learn from this national model and the other piece that sort of kind of parallel with this that was happening at the same time ELISA and I were attending another conference from the nc3 T which is the National Centre College in Piraeus the state of Connecticut has partnered with this group with the intention of helping

056immediately metagaming schools infinity school systems to bolster their forgiveness areas so these history was wanted to provide technical assistance to the state of Connecticut to get this going it was a partnership with some situation possibilities that we spoke about and under trying to hear high schools and easy is the career and pathways sample occupations and programs of cinema Albirex tons of possible career pathways just a couple - where appetite we have construction pathways insurance securities investment pathways natural resource pathways biotechnology system pathways our structural technical system pathways manufacturing pathways may go on another and so the idea is to graduate students from high school high school degree they're prepared for college but they're also lead with industry recognized credentials and areas that they have explored to give them as a background on 21st century jobs

057that are in demand and also to give them a leg up as they go off to college or into the workforce they have these days I am going to forward suddenly new board members since the changeover to both presentation some of the videos that talk about the caddies are because there's a great little wonderful I'll give you a sense of what these things look like but we're very excited that Garrick Utley back to the NC treaty so in these communications they mentioned that they would be sponsoring a couple of school districts to partner with to provide specific school-based technical assistance so there's even the state and they also want to come okay so Astoria so listen s to these folks and as you referred to by and we were selected so we part of October

05820 2014 accolade systems Institute and we have more details with details to be forthcoming but basically they'll provide technical assistance to us to help us look at the assets that we have worship them and what we're able to do to create some pathways to get that process going a great example would be are seeing a part of the High School which is one of the conspirators high school and I see an 80-degree they're ready to go they delay their and treat the high school they have this evening to pick them up if they want their college in high school right if you want to play that you can work all their art in college it also looks better on an application or there might work they're trying to get it to get out there you

059should contact hours already set so there's that these are all advantages and opportunities that we can give our students and we get very creative with our space Academy that was on paper and space that we're looking at those things differently informed by this visit the conversation about this affidavit was definitely us in this case this is a joke five years request before quite a challenge of that except their number of even no resources with them but if you can read the writing on the wall if we do these things just ace knocking on our door and we have an opportunity if they would just let us versus do something and beautiful starts of this it gives us some leverage this is what [Music] that's a great question they're probably you know this had budget how

060do we how do we you know how to be dream this fit right and look at that it's a national model looks like it's it's amazing it is it's the drink like you call it the journey it was a great question part of our investments these budgets and still having these dreams you know the the short answer is that you can't stop gift up dreaming and for what the vision needs to look like right I always fear I was a little bit of apathy around these budget processes do certain things so we stop trying to do certain things but probably the longer answer is that we have things in place now that it with a little creativity in a little innovation we can move some things around very low-cost redesigns of courses that we currently

061have on the books and sequence them away bring content and that allows for students who are prepared to to access these certifications with some simple changes so we start small to big steps and we still keep the dream of mine and as we are for space as we're looking at resources and as as businesses in town start to know that we have this vision they may come and approach us with some resources or eight I'm attorney actionability we'd love to do internships with their students the credits that way get creative with our students working in the community prepared and also serving I tell you how many funny businesses around here folks are looking for certain skill sets in different areas that it's a high school but yet necessarily a bachelor's degree better I think jobs

062so we're going to fill in some of those gaps and support little more forcefully supporting our kids as they travel along in their preparation as well character Dusen that link to make sure i will resend that whole presentation and in the presentation elect in the last line are the links to the videos early academies national you know guess as I'm glad you say I love Nashville we're going to try to a second cohort and for 10 faves pray society yes I think you know Steve Everett sure those are wet tables I sent you we've got some we're looking at some of the policies [Music] yes what distance you know this is remember with yesterday with the state officials and they may have response but revision take it very seriously we've part of the state return

063what we have to deal with response it how did how did it come through and is that what you correct yes and it came through getting through the issue is over not sure how what it means all these involved as well classrooms are in her school partners Java art directors students numerous acquisitions do their assessment I'm just not sure what they found that just happened yesterday but the students raised the concern that are conservatives material that in this gets scratched paralyzed in release and it Curtis dangerous but the state at first initially said is very very conservative you know to be the assessment as relate to check and well you know that based on whatever I think it was [Music] the Task Force review the moment productions discuss options recommendations with short and long term

064facilities anywhere me again after that academies Nashville trip in March the policy committee meeting was cancelled to allow time to review the about 300 pages for series 3000 on business and non operational nine structural operations so we will meet on Wednesday March 4th at 6:00 and subsequently on the first Wednesday of each month I did touch these with all my videos I attended as each new gaming website just had their science fair a few weeks ago and they've been there and to view the projects which they had some amazing projects there and there's a video on matters TV once it's generate it was a question about power school and that came up at the concerning about domination late that's I don't know if it's being incorrectly used the number of questions are being used to

065weep degree instead of the overall percentage of an assignment or an assessment so if there's different number of questions then the weight is different across classrooms are across all of the middle schools I don't know if anyone was aware or that their that has been mentioned we're waiting a different in this cross the department so there could be relax and that's what our Confucianism okay so a parent was saying that across same subjects different teachers different number of questions for the assessment where class work or anything it weights it on that instead of like the overall percentage rate and teachers do that some professional reflects abilities and of course they've been tweens in the categories then there's they have there are some standard assignments everybody has to have an accessible there are some individualized teacher

066but I'm wondering the question not teacher this down or school system calculation may be looking at a different issue and she was up devastated system this is the weight doesn't match what is outlined in the beginning of dollars and then DHS there's a PTO meeting on Wednesday during our community they are going to be putting I attended ace parents night race sex and as I've been through walk through me it was I was like with a surprise to a lot of parents there you know they also do so the students were there but Wow chuckles and teachers pardon I talked to a couple of teachers and the students they have a they work really hard and they were really appreciative that more vinaigrette come by April 8th is a career day base in the morning

067and then in the afternoon is a Renaissance Fair June and and June Court is a poultry something happening with poetry and Hatter's market buyers are just about - account but they really are mantou of some of my new was ever grants on there just really very brutally unattended the Park Avenue ptomaine it's my liaison school but it's also my kids schools like most of the activities anyway as usual the PTO board is doing a great job they've crafted is an amazing principal they do a really good job organizing in advance of their PTO meetings because they need to coordinate a Spanish and Portuguese interpreter for all of their PTO meetings or a good chunk of the audience from that people participate and they had both there and the usual number they introduced may his were

068these two it was just to let you know on the community relations with many people I'm going to reaching out to ask if if February 19th at 6 o'clock would be the time to do [Music] it's so uh what Rachel said Sikes had a joint meeting last night but I just want to because we the last exercise means that every member of informational in nature I'm hoping that as long as things that have to take care of and I was wondering if the 26 immediate six o'clock before regular meeting weekend as a just as I thought for the trip to Nashville come back in the mayor mentioned another joint meeting with the task force's a so the committee started to one of the pieces good for you because make sure you call care to our

069first day over tomorrow so don't you get emails as a joke we talked about last night reduce the demographic stuff from your work on coasters Nashville trip okay you ought to be in my high school yesterday [Music] so you know I really that was having your head [Music] I'm here to work with you and help support you whatever I can to as to what you I just want us to work together open up don't be pushy let's work together and get what we need to get done okay for our students to animals think okay if there's no other questions Oh dancing I ask anything to put together another arcade on the talk gets to go about doing it and it's going to be a mecca of the full body is confident even a motion to
