Oh. >> [music] [music] >> Graduates, please be seated. Good morning, parents, family members, students, staff, and dignified guests. Welcome to the 2026 Savannah High School commencement ceremony. My name is Anthony Higa, Savannah High School student ambassador, and today is a special day and one we are excited to celebrate together. I'm joined by Sophia Prudencio, GLLA president. She is also one of your masters of ceremony for this morning's event. This ceremony is both a joyous and solemn occasion. Please let us remember to be courteous to those around us. We need to be respectful to our seniors during the ceremony. So no air horns or noise makers. Please remain seated while filming or taking photos and remember to keep the recording device at chest level to not impede the vision of others seated around you. Today's ceremony
is being live streamed and will remain on the district's YouTube channel to view at your convenience. It is so great that we can all be together today to celebrate the class of 2026. Buenos dias, padres, familiares, estudiantes, personal y distinguidos invitados.
At this time, I would like to introduce Alyssa Falconburg, our ASB president, who will lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. After the Pledge of Allegiance, please remain standing for our national anthem that will be performed by our very own Savannah High School band and choir.
>> Thank you, Anthony and Sophia. Will the audience please rise and and join me for the pledge of allegiance. Place your right hand over your heart. Ready, begin. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Please remain standing while the Savannah Band and Choir plays our national anthem. >> [music and singing] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [singing and music] [applause] >> Thank you. You may now
be seated. Thank you, Alyssa. At this time, I would like to begin the ceremony by introducing our distinguished guests. Please welcome Jessica Guerrero, President of the Board of Trustees. Anna Marie Randal Trejo, Clerk of the Board of Trustees. Ron Hoshi, Assistant Clerk of the Board of Trustees. Dr. Jose Paulo Magcalas, Member of the Board of Trustees. Dr. Jerry Freed, Superintendent of the Anaheim Union High School District. Amy Quan, Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services. Brad Jackson, Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources. And lastly, Dr. Sia Perez, Principal of Savannah High School. In addition, I'd like to thank our teachers, administrators, and support staff, and our counseling staff who have supported the graduating class of 2026. El Doctor Jose Paulo >> Now please welcome to the podium our first senior speaker Andres Leyva. Thank you Anthony and Sophia. Good morning
distinguished guest, faculty, staff, parents, and my fellow graduates. My name is Andres Leyva Navarrete. And it is an honor to stand before you today representing the class of 2026. Today I stand on the stage in my most vulnerable form. Not as someone who has it all figured out, but as someone who's still learning how to be seen. Right now I feel hundreds of eyes piercing my skin. Yet somehow more than I feel the weight of every version of myself that brought me here. Every mistake, every disappointment, every moment I wish I could disappear from. For a long time, I believed that if I could just change enough about myself, I would finally feel like I belonged. So, I tried. I changed my hair, my style, my features. I even changed my voice. All in search
of an ideal version of me that everyone wanted. But, no matter how much I reshaped myself, it never worked. And the most painful part is not that I tried, it's that I didn't understand why I still felt empty after becoming everything I thought I was supposed to be. It took me nearly 4 years to realize the truth. In trying to become someone else, I was slowly letting go of the only person I would ever truly be. As time went by, I began to understand that the parts of ourselves we rush to hide are often the parts that make us most unique. My favorite songwriter, Elliot Smith, once said, "The potential you'll be that you'll never see." I think about that a lot. Because maybe the tragedy is not that we're not enough, but that we
spend so much of our lives trying to become someone we were never meant to be, that we never get to meet who we actually are. And maybe, just maybe, freedom is not transformation. Maybe freedom is recognition. The moment you finally stop running from yourself and decide to stay, that's the real freedom. When I look out at all of you, I see people who are placed in the front seat of their lives that they never even got to choose, expected to navigate skies we were never taught to fly through. And still we made it here. But at the end of the day, we're not pilots and we're not navigators. We are poets. We are the authors of our stories. I believe we as human beings can only create opportunities at our best. So I would like
to take this chance to remind you that we as human beings are not defined by the color of our skin, our gender, our birthplace, the people we choose to love, or the versions of ourselves we tried to become just to be accepted. We are defined by what we choose in spite of all of that, by the love we give when it is not returned, by the kindness we offer when nobody's watching, by the courage it takes to fully be ourselves in a world that constantly asks us not to be. Because growing up is not about becoming someone new, but finally stopping the war with who we already are. Yeah. >> [laughter] >> I can't leave this stage without thanking my family who has been by my side since the day my heart began beating. But
sometimes >> [laughter] >> Thank you. Thank you. Sometimes if you're later lucky in life, like myself you will meet people who blood is not a deciding factor to consider them family. In my case I met Jackie Asudalli Madeline >> [snorts] >> Ashley Leilani Prisida Carla Omar and my Henry. >> [snorts] >> Thank you for helping me stand even when I couldn't do it on my own. For accepting me as the person I am and for your [snorts] unconditional love that I hope will last me a lifetime. So class of 2026 in times when you forget who you are look [snorts] around because somewhere on this field or on those bleachers you have a family who is willing to do anything for you. I [snorts] hope when all of you look back that you remember this.
Because who you are right now in this exact moment is more than enough. Thank you and congratulations class of 2026. >> [applause] >> Thank you. Thank you. Thank you Andres. Please welcome our second senior class speaker Helen Theron. Thank you Anthony and Sophia. Good evening faculty, loved ones, teachers, and the incredible class of 2026. My name is Helen Theron and it is really an honor to stand before you today as I look out at this community. I hope that this moment stays with me forever. It brings me joy to have students sitting with red caps and gowns because every behind every seat is a story of share late nights, early mornings, challenges, growth, and perseverance. Today is just not the end of a very long journey, but the beginning of a lifetime. Not long ago,
we were simply simply stepping into a new chapter unaware of how much our lives were about to change. In an instant, everything shifted and what felt like a single moment became four unforgettable years filled with laughter, tears, frustration, and growth. No one understands this journey better than us. We went on feeling or like our childhood would last forever to experiencing our teenage years in ways we never expected through a computer screen. And through it all, we adapted. That resilience defines the class of 2026. When I look at you, I don't just see high school graduates. I see the young sixth graders that we once were. I see the people that showed me kindness, who stood up for what they believed in, and became more than just classmates. We became a family. Our community may be
small, but we have so much to offer. We have grown, we have evolved, and we have changed. And yes, change can be uncomfortable. It can feel uncertain and even overwhelming, but change is also what shaped us. It built our strength and character and will build our future. So, embrace the change because it's something that is part of life you can never avoid or control, but can grow from. Quiero agradecer a todos los padres que están aquí presentes Now to the class of 2026, never give up. Remember where you come from and stay proud of your roots. I leave you with this. Live as you were to die tomorrow, learn as you were to live forever. Congratulations class of 2026. Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> Thank you, Helen. Friends, Andres Andres and Helen spoke so
eloquently about their journey while at Savannah High School and we are so excited for our graduates as they embark on their next journey. I want to share with everyone that Savannah High School is truly an amazing, one-of-a-kind school because of our committed and caring teachers and staff members. At this time, I would like to recognize and acknowledge the Savannah faculty and staff for their dedication in preparing these students for the last four years. Let's give them a round of applause. >> And now Dr. Perez will provide some special student recognition. Please join me in honoring all the graduating seniors who have made many great contributions to Savannah High School. I would like to recognize some extraordinary student groups. Graduates, when your group is called, please rise to be recognized. Career Technical Education CTE Pathways, please

You may be seated. Let's give it one more time for a round of applause for all these awesome accomplishments. Class of 2026, this year has been memorialized by
many firsts. My first year serving you as your principal, first season of stunt, first time competing at the FBLA State Leadership Conference, and lastly, the first ever CIF Women's Team Championship in Savannah High School's history. >> [cheering] >> And the most recent CIF Championship since 1993. Let's give it up one more time for all of our firsts. But before we look to close out this chapter of your high school careers, I'd like you to take a moment to pause, take a breath, and look up in these stands to see how many loved ones are here to support our Savannah community. Gracias por todos. As you continue on your own path out of Savannah, use this moment as your reminder that you are not alone. Whether you are representing your family as the first to graduate,
or the first in your family to attend college, or the first time you'll be away from your family as you move away for college, the weight you will carry not will be yours alone, but for this whole community to help you carry that weight on your shoulders. In fact, a new version of you will emerge and what was once too heavy will what be just a brick in the foundation of the life you are now building. And just like how you each entered Savannah with your own story, you will continue to navigate through the world making the story that best fits you. Remember that you belong in any story and like Andrea said, you guys are the authors of that story. Do not let others create it for you. During your time here at Savannah,
you have demonstrated the power of student voice. Whether it was advocating on behalf of mental health support, expanding food options to be more culturally inclusive, bringing new partnerships such as neutral ground, or expending your various concerns with the Savannah restrooms, you have planted the seeds for change. You see, to make real and lasting change, it takes more than simply just using your voice or drafting call to action letters. It takes courage to reflect and address the root causes of the problems. It takes educating yourself and staying curious about the world around you. It takes positioning yourself into opportunities of change. And it takes a sense of vulnerability and humility to work on your own growth. To quote Martin Luther King Jr., "An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines
of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity." So, I ask you this, Savannah. What is the change that you want to see? As we close out, please remember to never settle, stay true to yourself, and do not lose that fire in your belly, or like our beloved Señora Portillo, never lose the ganas. There is a great expression that says, "To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did." So, do not let the ideas that you never acted on, or the talents you didn't use, stare back at you in the mirror. Class of 2026, thank you for lasting impression on me. It has been a pleasure to serve you as your principal. Felicidades. Class of 2026, we have arrived at the moment you have all been waiting for.
At this time, we ask that dignitaries and those assisting with the awarding of diplomas to go to their places. Mrs. Alvarez and Mr. Olivas will now read the names of the class of 2026 graduating seniors. Please respect each of our graduates and hold your applause until all the names have been read. At this time, will the first first row please stand and begin to make their way to the stage. Thank you. Clase de 2026, ha llegado el momento que todos ustedes han estado esperando.
