[music] [music] >> Hallelujah. >> [music] [music] >> Hallelujah. >> [music] [music] [cheering and applause] >> Good morning, parents, family members, students, staff, and dignified guests. Welcome to the class of 2026 Cypress High School Commencement Ceremony. My name is Josh Marines, and I'll be your master of ceremonies this morning. This is a special day, and one that we are all excited to celebrate together. For many of us, this day once felt so far away, and here we are one final time together as Cypress students, ready to celebrate all that we have accomplished. And so, this ceremony is both a joyous and yet solemn occasion. So, please, let us be courteous to those around us. We need to be respectful to our seniors throughout the entire ceremony, so we ask for no air horns or noise makers.

Also, please remain seated while filming or taking photos, and remember to keep the recording device at chest level as to not impede the vision of others around you. And finally, please keep the aisles or walkways open throughout the entire ceremony. Today's ceremony is being live streamed and will remain on the district's YouTube channel to view at your convenience. And now, at this time, I would like to welcome Parsmi Rajput to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. After the Pledge of Allegiance, please remain standing for our national anthem. Please place your right hand over your heart. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Please remain standing. And now, I would like

to invite Megan Lytle to sing our national anthem. Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light, what so proudly we held [singing] at the twilight's last gleaming, whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight were the [singing] ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming, and the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the [singing] night that our flag was still there. [singing] Oh, say does that star-spangled banner >> [screaming] >> yet wave for the land of the free and the home >> [screaming] >> of the brave? >> [cheering and applause] >> What a great voice. Let's give it up again for Megan. >> [cheering] >> Everyone, please be seated. I would now like to introduce our distinguished guests who are present with us this morning. Please welcome

Jessica Guerrero, the president of the Board of Trustees. Ann Marie Randall Trejo, the clerk of the Board of Trustees. Ron Hoshi, our assistant clerk of the Board of Trustees. Dr. Jose Paolo Macaluso, a member of the Board of Trustees. And Brian O'Neal, a member of the Board of Trustees. I would also like to recognize on our stage Dr. Jared Freed, our AUHSD Superintendent. Amy Kwan, the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. And Dr. Nancy Neely, the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services. I would also like to thank our principal, Jennifer Brown. >> [cheering] >> And our assistant principals, Eric Tanorio. Dr. Daniel Lu. Lauren Troy. And Janet Kovar. And finally, I would like to thank all of our teachers and counseling staff, which includes Ms. Mary Benford. Ms. Carrie Vaughn. Ms. Tina Shires. Ms. Ela Wonder. Ms.

Lucky Ann. Ms. Amanda Lu. And last but certainly not least, let's give a hand for our senior class counselor, Ms. Billie Lavrov. >> [cheering] >> All of these people have worked hard these past four years to make sure that we made it to this moment today. And now, I would like to welcome our very first speaker of today, our amazing ASB President. Please give a round of applause for Logan Henderson. >> [cheering] >> There's a universal truth that we all have to face. Whether we want to or not, eventually everything ends. As much as I've looked forward to this day, I've always disliked endings. The last days of summer, the final chapter of a great book, parting ways with a close friend, but endings are inevitable. Leaves change, you close the book, and you say

goodbye. Today is one of those days for us. Today we say goodbye to everything that was comfortable, everything that was familiar, and we're moving on. And yes, that can be scary, but here's what I've realized. Maybe endings aren't just about things falling apart. Maybe they're about things falling into place. Maybe this isn't just an ending, and maybe it's all coming together. High school isn't just a single story. It's thousands of small moments stitched together, awkward, hilarious, difficult, unforgettable moments that slowly shaped us into who we are becoming. And somewhere in all those moments, we found the people who made the journey unforgettable. The friends who stood beside us through everything and made the hard days a little easier. And for many of us, the quiet support behind it all came from our parents, the ones

who believed in us before we even believed in ourselves. Love you, Mom and Dad. But that's the key. Because becau- Sorry. Becoming. Because it's all coming together doesn't mean that everything is perfectly figured out. We might not have every detail of our future planned. Some of us know exactly what's next, and some of us are still figuring it out. And that's okay. You don't need to have your whole life mapped out in order to be exactly where you're supposed to be. And as we walk away from this place, we're not walking away empty-handed. We're carrying the friends that changed us, the teachers that pushed us, and the memories that built us. Those people and moments don't stay behind in a building. They move forward with us, and they're a part of our foundation now. So,

yes, this is an ending, but it's also a launch, a turning of the page, and the best part we don't need to have every answer yet. The past few years have proved that we grow into things. We adapt and we surprise ourselves. And today, as we celebrate our graduation, this isn't just the end of the chapter, it's the beginning of the next one. Congratulations, class of 2026. We made it. >> [applause] >> Thank you, Logan. Now, for our next speaker this morning, please give a warm welcome to this day's Mr. Prom King, Jake Sellau. Hi, Mom. Imagine dumping a box of puzzles on a table, pouring them on the table and not knowing where to start. Personally, and I think everyone can agree with this, I will start with the edges cuz well, they're the

easiest and I look at the picture on the box to help. Forrest Gump said, "Life is like a box of chocolates." But, I like to think of life more like a puzzle. Only, it doesn't come in a box and you don't get the full picture. Up until now, we've been given the pieces of the puzzle. Our parents and parental figures give us pieces of support, discipline, and love. Teachers give us pieces of knowledge and curiosity. Coaches and mentors handed us pieces of discipline and perseverance and our friends gave us pieces of fun, laughter, and togetherness. You place the pieces down, not really knowing what the full picture is yet. You know, growing up, I used to think that I needed to complete the puzzle, have it all figured out by the time I graduated high

school. I realize now that high school is just the first edge of the picture. One that keeps expanding from here. It's all coming together now, but we have the rest of our lives to figure out the rest of the picture. And the surprising thing is that the pieces we chose and where we place them are now completely up to us. The pieces we've collected, the choices we made, and even our mistakes, they all form the puzzle. The puzzle that shapes the story of our lives. There's a quote from one of my favorite movies, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, that I really wanted to share with you guys. For what it's worth, it's never too late to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit. Start whenever you want. You can change or

you can stay the same. There's no rules to this thing. We can make the best of it or make the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. And I hope you live a life that you're proud of. >> [cheering and applause] [snorts] >> And if you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength the strength to start all over again. To my fellow graduates, may you find all the pieces of the puzzle that complete your picture. And if you ever lose your way, remember, you can always pick up the pieces and start again. Graduation isn't about finishing the puzzle. It's the

first edge of the puzzle and we get to build it from here. Thank you and congratulations, class of 2026. >> [cheering] [applause] >> Thank you so much, Jake. Let's give them a round of applause again. At this time, I would now like to introduce our very own Cypress High School Choir, who will be performing How Does a Moment Last Forever, arranged by Mac Huff. Let's hear for our choir. >> [music] >> How [music] does [singing] a moment last forever? How [music] can a story never [singing] die? It is This >> [music] >> we must hold on to. Never [music] easy, but we try. Sometimes [singing and music] our happiness is captured. Somehow [music and singing] a time and place can stand Love [singing] lives on [music] inside our hearts and always >> [singing] >> will.

Minutes [music] turn to hours, >> [singing] >> days to [music] years, then gone. But [singing] when >> [music] >> all else has been forgotten, still [music] [singing] our song lives on. >> [music] >> Maybe some moments weren't so perfect. >> [music] >> Maybe some memories aren't so sweet. But we [music and singing] have to know some bad times for our lives [music and singing] are incomplete. And when [music and singing] the shadows overtake us, just when we feel all [singing] hope is gone, >> [music] >> we'll hear our song and know once more our love [singing] lives on. [music] >> [singing] [music] [singing] [music] >> How does [music and singing] a moment last forever? >> [music and singing] [music and singing] [singing and music] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] [singing and music]

[music] [singing] [music] >> Let's give it one more time for our choir. >> [cheering] >> I would now like to introduce our amazing principal, Ms. Jennifer Brown, to the stage. Please give her a round of applause. And I'm so much shorter. All right. Good morning. Good morning Cypress High School families, staff, guests, and most importantly, the incredible class of 2026. Graduates, take a moment. Look around. Look to your left. Look to your right. Look up into the stands to those who supported you on your journey. Give them a nod or point in their direction to show your appreciation. >> [cheering] >> Now look inward. This is it. This is your moment. You did it. And not just in the way people often measure success with grades, credits, or transcripts. You did something far greater. You

became You became leaders. You became thinkers. You became creators. You became a community that learned what it means to lift one another, to persevere, and to dream bigger than what was placed in front of you. At Cypress, we don't just talk about success. We live it through who we are. We learn with empathy. We innovate with purpose. And we dream together. Those aren't just words on a wall. They are the foundation of who you are becoming. And today, I want to leave you with four simple, powerful life lessons. One you've already been practicing every day, whether you realized it or not. First, be there. In a world full of distractions, being fully present is rare and powerful. Be there for your friends. Be there for your family. Be there in your work, your passions, and

your purpose. Because when you are truly present, you create connection. And connection changes everything. Second, choose your attitude. Life will not always be easy. There will be challenges, setbacks, and moments that test you. But, here's the truth. You always have a choice. Choose resilience. Choose optimism. Choose to rise even when it's hard. Your attitude will shape your path more than any circumstance ever will. Third, make their day. This world needs you. Not just your intelligence or your talents, but your kindness, your compassion, your humanity. Make someone feel seen. Make someone feel valued. Make someone they believe they matter because they do. Never underestimate the power of a small act of kindness. It can change a life. And finally, play. Yes, play. Stay curious. Stay joyful. Stay willing to take risks. Dream boldly. Try new things.

Laugh often. Because the people who change the world are the ones who never lose their sense of wonder. Class of 2026, you leave here today with more than a diploma. You leave with a voice. Use it. Use it to stand up for what is right. Use it to challenge the status quo. Use it to build something better for yourselves and for others. And when life gets hard, and it will, remember this. You are Cypress strong. You have already overcome challenges. You have already proven your resilience. And you are more prepared than you realize. So, go forward with courage. Go forward with purpose. Go forward with heart. Because excellence is ignited when the heart and mind work as one. So, as you step into this next chapter, carry this with you. Veni, vidi, vici. You came,

you saw, and class of 2026, you conquered. Congratulations, graduates. We are proud of you. We believe in you, and cannot wait to see how you change the world. Thank you, Principal Brown. Class of 2026, we have finally arrived at the moment that we have all been waiting for. Dignitaries who will who will be presenting diplomas to our graduates, please make your way to your places on the stage. Ms. Maryann Seward and Ms. Melissa Van Bourne will read the names of the class of 2026 graduating seniors. As a note, please respect all of our graduates and hold your applause until all the names have been read. Thank you. LET'S GO, JACK! >> [screaming] [cheering] >> LET'S GO, JACK!
