give back to the community that has helped me to become so successful thank you again and let's do great things all right thank you welcome to the Anaheim right Union High School District family you and your family so thank you okay um next is recognitions we have Kaiser Permanente I'll wait for the people to sit down first oh okay so we will we will hold off and move forward and and we'll sort of watch thank you so student speakers do we I don't have any um any papers from students speakers so I'm assuming we have them tonight so we'll move on to report some associations we'll start with uh Lacy monger of apga which is our counseling unit foreign word of Trustees I just wanted to give you kind of an update on what our
counselors have been doing since we last met last month our schools have just completed their needs assessment with all of our students and our counselors are currently analyzing their data from that assessment to help plan our lessons around our academic career and social emotional needs by school so we were grateful that this year we had a universal needs assessment but the great thing is we can break it down by school to where each school will now be set up to have their lessons based on what the needs of the specific School are so that was done within the first month in August we just completed that along with the fact that we actually this year for the first time have a universal scope and sequence for our counselors so if a student were to go
to for example catella but then transferred over to Savannah they would be seeing the same types of lessons so that way across the board no matter what school a student goes to they will be receiving the same types of lessons and information so that way there's no Gap depending on what school that you're going to so we're grateful for that as well foreign sorry I don't have my glasses today so I'm going very slow with that said I'm old okay our Junior High counselors we they are currently doing their minute meetings with each one of their students they are literally one minute to where they meet with each Junior High School student and just get a taste for where they're at which is very cool for them to do and then in order in next
we also have our students currently completing their strengths assessment an interest profiler there which will be uploaded into e-cadence for all of our staff members so that way our staff members will be able to view their students strengths and interests within their classrooms this will give our student our staff a way to connect with their students and I know that I'm hearing down the um down the pipeline AI this is going to help generate through AI um a way for teachers to be able to connect with their students lessons that need to be lessons that can be or need to be created in their classrooms and just that Universal connection I do know that today for example at Katella we were teaching our student our teachers how to do the College and Career lessons that
are coming down within the next couple of weeks and one of the really cool activities that our students will be doing are vision boards that will also be uploaded into e-cadence and I think that's a great way for our teachers and our staff members to be able to see where their students fall where they currently are just within their academics within their career within their social emotional goals and seeing that and knowing that that's going to be across the district I think is going to give our community a really great way to be able to connect with our students and hopefully see what our students have to bring to the table so that's what we are currently working on in counseling once again all of our tier one students which are all of our students
when they in our district and thank you very much thank you lazy is Amanda Bean in the audience there she is yes Amanda from Alta foreign good evening I'm president O'Neill Board of Trustees superintendent matsuda executive cabinet students parents and school Community joining us in person and online it's really hard to believe it but we're already in the fifth week of school it's been a wonderful start to the school year filled with enthusiasm and amazing School sponsored events from Welcome Back rallies Spirit weeks back to school nights and fall sport competitions and talking about fall sport competitions Gilbert High School held their first inaugural co-ed flag football game and came to a close win versus Brea Canyon that's pretty exciting additionally Cypress High School is celebrating their 50th anniversary and will be conducting additional School

about some of the um people that have been ambassadors and the great things that they are doing now some of them are doctors some of them are lawyers some of them are Community activists I mean they're really successful so I was just thinking I'm going to have a an ambassador alumni uh some type of thing to to let you guys know how your influence and the influence of this program has affected their lives um that just came to me today but I would like that I was driving and I was multitasking do you have a presentation you're going to put up on the board yes so take this time to personally thank you guys though but especially uh Mrs Randall Trejo and Mrs Piercy they help us each year in the selection of these ambassadors
and so these are the the best of the best um and um as well as Miss Guerrero for participating in some of our activities with Mrs Rando Trejo we had a mindfulness workshops that we do for the entire district and um so we had a lot of fun mindfulness activities and Miss Guerrero is a really good karaoke singer we found out don't let her hide that Talent the students when the ambassador program first began um Mrs Piercy suggested that we have a representative from every school so I'm proud to to say tonight that we have ambassadors from our comprehensive sites um like it was said earlier today from Mrs Bean we're going to start RSVP at the junior high level but also too we have RSVP now at Gilbert at CVA and at Hope School
so just to let you know these ambassadors serve as presidents over RSVP which stands for raising student voice and participation and the uh they bring back ideas to improve they talk to to their administrators but they bring back things to improve at their school sites as well as the district and to you as the school board and that's why we present our school reports to you I just want to take this opportunity thank you for valuing and allow students to have a voice in this District they truly are I mean a big part of this representation of the stakeholder group of students and we just really appreciate your support and I would like to acknowledge my co-advisors Mrs Jennifer Brown and Mrs hildevaska I couldn't ask for a better team of advisors to work with
and I think we're going to be doing some great things so without further Ado I'm going to have them line up and just let you know where they're from look and as they're lining up I just wanted to share because if you're on LinkedIn you know we get to follow a lot of our alumni so as Daniella was just appointed today to the as a student rep I wanted to share and I love my student rep Ibrahim barmal um he is a human rights Advocate and he just became the editor of the Harvard Law review so he's at Harvard so just want to let's share like the impact right that this program creates and so we'll be sharing news with you from the alumni too good evening everyone my name is Madison Romero I am

school year an additional three scholarships were awarded the students were chosen based on their academic achievement and desire to pursue a career in health care each scholarship was in the amount of two thousand dollars and was funded through their personal contributions of Physicians from the Kaiser Permanente Orange County surgical service line on behalf of the Board of Trustees in the district we would like to thank you for your generous donation and we have Representatives this evening Allison Wong correct okay and uh Scotty did one of you want to speak yes in the microphone please uh Dr Wong is coming straight from the hospital so we're really grateful for her to make time to come here tonight but we're even more grateful for the work that Kaiser Permanente surgical Services line has done for our students
for the last two years uh like you shared they have worked with us to develop a Physicians scholarship program for students that are pursuing a career in medical field it's a really rigorous application process that occurs Every Spring and of those student applicants uh Dr Wong and her team go through every single application and they select candidates to select for the interview process and then once students are interviewed the panel then gets to decide which students will be recipients of the scholarship and so this initially started out as two scholarships and then last year there were so many exceptional students that the Physicians contributed themselves to the scholarship fund creating three scholarships and then again just this past year we had two more scholarship recipients and so it's all through the work of these dedicated
surgeons not only on the hospital floor but to our students to help them and their career Pursuits as they start to look into careers in the medical field so we're really grateful for Dr Wanda join us here tonight and just really happy of the collaboration between Kaiser Permanente and our surgical Services Alliance team so thank you right Dr Wong would you like to say anything for inviting me to be here I am representing all the surgeons and anesthesiologists at Kaiser Permanente Orange County to be here and I just want to say that you know every year we interview the students we're just so impressed you know looking out over the applications where it's just kind of like feeling so assured that we are in good hands in terms of our future because I know that

of the year the dance is Affordable so everyone is interested in participating Magnolia also had their Club brush with clubs from many different areas of Interest like FBLA to MACC club and everyone gained an opportunity to join for volleyball Magnolia one zero to three but the score does not mean how many points they've got it means the rounds they've won foreign we have the link crew orientation which is basically a orientation for freshmen and they come in on August 4th and kind of see how the school looks and everything that kind of goes on how things go um we also have our girls flag football first games were this month so with the introduction of girls flag football the Lady Rebels are ecstatic to compete and represent Savannah the first games were against Katella and
Valencia they did lose but the Lady Rebels are working towards strategy implementation and strength training we also had our first home game at Glover with a 0-70 but the rebels are only getting started under the guidance of new coaches the rebels are on track for major improvements and future wins we also had our club Rush on August 31st despite of the overbearing heat over 20 of Savannah's clubs worked together to pull off a very successful Club Rush resulting in over 300 member signups and the cultivation of a closer knit Rebel community girls volleyball has also scrimmaged against many competitive schools like Rancho Alamitos Montebello and Calvary Chapel these games were extremely close but unfortunately losses the team is now working on team building and working together as a cohesive unit Oxford is not in here
but I'm gonna read it off of my phone so Oxford's latest achievement Oxford Academy has won against has once again pushed through the top 10 public high schools in the nation according to the yearly yearly reports made by AP News Oxford Academy is now ranked ninth in the nation and first in California as a celebration the students were awarded an extended lunch where extra snacks were distributed and games were set out to play history is made this year is Oxford's Academy's Silver Jubilee marketing the 25th year since the establishment of the institution Oxford students are forever grateful for the opportunities present at Oxford as well as the community they are able to build throughout their six-year tenor and last but not least we have Western High School Western High School also had their Club Rush

you to Danielle a very nice report for your your first out of the shoot excellent good look forward to more to come that deserves a round of applause all right all right next we have public comments on Open Session items opportunities for public comments occur at the beginning of each agenda item and at this time four items not on the agenda we have a timed our timer over here she will start the timer for and it will single uh be just before your your time is up uh so we have two speakers first off we have Mr Sean Pfeiffer I'll start the timer yet right I'm not good evening uh board presidents uh Board of Trustees right um our superintendent Mr matsuda who's out for a minute and our cabinet uh who am I and
why am I here my name is Sean Pfeiffer uh I'm a graduate of Cypress High School 1989 honorably discharged Marine Corps vet uh teacher of the year at Kennedy High School 2014. APA Lexington and Cypress High School 2015-22 aim summer coordinator since we had the summer program in 2015. Back to the classroom in 2023 and now I'm the athletic director of my alma mater my reputation speaks of my allegiance and dedication to our students of auhsd but I'm here tonight to speak for as a parent and for my colleagues um so the aim summer internship this uh summer our job we had five dedicated teachers working with these interns placed all over the county um the Friday classes purpose is to connect the dots so to speak to get our kids uh the communication skills
how to handle conflict Paradigm shifts a lot of fun we spend a lot of time and dedication the teachers work uh tirelessly to connect with these kids this year they were forced to be graded A's whether or not we were working individually with these students contacting parents uh kids that were kind of phoning it in instead of a credit no credit option the grading could hurt our AP students because it's a CTE course could bring their credits down I've since talked to Scott Rendell and so this might be a moot point the pay and I don't want to sound like I'm out here grabbing for money but uh we didn't get paid until September when other summer teachers were paid twice during the summer just a point of Interest this past year last summer 2022
uh three campuses were approached for an Orange County Department of Ed math brand 5 teachers from Cyprus were representative three and myself lasted through the 2022-23 school year during our summer we were promised uh you know monies for resources uh you know unrestricted resources as long as it fit the Paradigm of the grant which was to raise awareness for computer science and underrepresented populations computational thinking in 2023 tonight auhsd I heard was Voting whether or not to approve the ER grant our work has been done right and uh the work has been done our students benefited and still no pay just another point of Interest no iPads no whiteboards no pay creates a lack of faith from our teachers at least or at most and at least creates a lack of enthusiasm to participate in
future grants last thing I want to talk about is personal it's a trans care for Trans students in 2022 my youngest in 2022 my youngest graduated Community High School in 2020 my student my youngest was hospitalized for suicide ideation and sell harm slice their face up since 2018 my child's mother and I have worked towards mental health grit and resilience during all of this auhd had changed my gender of my child in Aries without my notification as one touched by this issue I feel it antithetical and hypocritical for a district out in Community Schools parent learning walks and family centers to reject the importance of family when it comes to gender I've heard it said we are protecting trans kids from what our job at school is to educate God for the social emotional we
have resources if we're protecting them from families this this is not okay it angers me if we feel for our child's safety there's a system in place where mandated reporters CPS you should call every day on every student if you're worried about families there's a way to address it leaving parents out is not the right choice okay thank you Luis Andreas Perez next um hi bored I have a couple quick questions and it's regarding you guys a special meeting I know under Brown acts special meetings you only need a 24-hour notice I know you guys gave it for 72 hours which is better but the intention is or kind of what I'm getting at is what was the need for the special meeting I know for the past couple years the last time the school
district had a meeting that goes past three hours was in 2021 and the last two school board meetings were under an hour additionally uh kind of under Brown act you don't necessarily need to qualify what the special meeting is for I mean it's clearly it was for the school consolidation and it makes sense why it was at Western that not an issue but to that uh there were some packets uh for the school efficiency committee and that data wasn't available on the agenda's packet it was only available if you showed up physically and still to this day if you go onto your guys's website and on agenda none of the data is available in addition to the other packets associated with it but this was clearly printed before the meeting had actually started additionally to
to that point the school efficiency committee met from December to April 2023 that was the last time eight meetings directly so again I kind of questioned what was the special meeting for in August when we have two meetings here I understand there's more action items today but last two meetings have been moot in addition to that there was no live stream uh which is the first time you guys have missed the live stream uh to that point even for the Anaheim High School mascot there was live stream I mean not even audio uh either for you guys a special board meeting uh and to that point to the brown act government code section 549-53.5 subsection B any audio or video recording of an open public meeting made for whatever Purpose By or at the direction
of the local agency shall be subject to inspection pursuant to the California public tax but now withstanding uh section 34094 and meaning that it could be a race or destroyed 30 days after the recording any inspection of an audio or video recording shall be provided without charge one equipment made available by the local agency you guys to that point your guys's special board meeting there was a camera recording and it was communicated to me by executive staff it only recorded the portion of the consultant and myself I attended the meeting and I had to leave after the consultant's presentation so I missed Pub the comments and the actual discussion of the board and I actually attended a community meeting by Accord in OKO about the Anaheim corruption Scandal so that's the need it was on
the same day two parts of different Anaheim and whatnot but uh to that point there was I mean I'm trying to make sense of it what was the missing middle in terms of not having the public broadcast especially for such a contentious item to the fact that the school mascot at Anaheim had a public hearing with a broadcast additionally to that point this is a different uh aspect for the school resource officers I know you guys already agreed that with the city of Anaheim and the other neighboring districts I think it's a bad policy overall it only perpetuates the school-to-prison pipeline and to that specific 41 of the total prison population are Latino males Latino males only make up 31 of the state's population and in Orange County recidivism which is the rate of more
likely to occur another crime is the highest amongst youth 14 or 18 year olds and that data is a little bit skewed because the data for north county is higher than South County uh naturally so the 15th oh is that yeah okay sorry about that okay thank you guys so much next we have 15 uh requests to speak all on the same subject Community Schools so it we're going to put a two minute timer on each person so of the the timer will be set up here and the I'm going to tell you when the person comes up to speak first who the next person is so you can be be prepared to walk up the first person is Marita Bermudez and next up will be Maria Gonzalez okay I'm gonna say as fast as

to invoke real change in my community this work field my motivation to become more involved in school and its decision-making processes ultimately even sparked my interest in pursuing higher education and a career in the legal field in May of this year I graduated with a degree in legal studies and public policy from the University of California Berkeley I did not hesitate in returning to my hometown to take on a new position as Community organizer with oko I'm here today to ask that you utilize these parents and students full potential to take on bigger roles in shaping their students education I truly believe that we are standing on the brink of a transformative opportunity to reimagine the way that we think about education I would like to take a moment to emphasize that this work is

for for the project so we're very excited that the team has done a lot of Grants or I mean a lot of matching funds already and we are continuing to getting lying so even if the state does not have a program we always want to get in line so then you'll be ready whenever the state have the money as well do we know if there are any more funds or right now um yeah I think right now they're they're I think they're all really exhausted at this point but the state is looking for another Bond uh next year so we are working with cash um the organization that works Statewide to make sure that we have one for next year so they'll be no on the November just out of curiosity okay besides being first
one how much money are do we have sort of in line four do you have a feel for that [Music] okay well thank you for that okay so I think what happens yeah so whenever we have a project we fund it first and then we will apply for the funding afterwards so we continuously whatever project we do we will get in line okay and so I just want to say that our staff that they do a great job to make sure we get all these money it's you know it's great that we you know have a bond and then we also have the same matching fund so we got our projects out you know from from the way we do it all right thank you all right this is a roll call vote Miss Guerrero

include Costa Rica El Salvador Guatemala Honduras and nicaraga followed by the Mexican Independence Day on September 16th and Chile Independence Day on September 18th which is the second whereas okay okay um and then I had a two amendments to that one and then if we can include um on one of the whereas we're celebrating the group's Heritage culture and if we can include and language our district is really big on Dual language emergence so I think it would be a good way to honor that okay yes we have to vote on what you just proposed okay so we have that's a motion yeah okay any discussion on that all in favor say aye aye aye opposed that's five zero now we go back to the original okay and we have a motion and that's we

are late and when you start late and you you it becomes the Habit you know that you kind of get up at the same time get ready at the same time and you become chronically late and that's including that that adds up to being absent so I just want to um emphasize that this is a really important resolution and everybody should really get behind being on time and committee school I think it's very appropriate for Daniella to hear this and know about how important it is to be at school on time every day not only for what she but Miss Randall Trader just said is the monitor aspect but just the learning aspect is have the enthusiasm the excitement to come to school and be with your friends and learn at the same time for

number 2023-24-r-s01 week of the school administrator so moved second Motion in a second any discussion on this I just have a quick story um I was talking with my principal and he was talking with Sandra Berry we all know Sandra Berry very well and uh he said Sandra you know when you were a superintendent wasn't it just the hardest job in the world and she said you know what I think the hardest job are the administrators you know at the school sites and so he uh he felt very highly respected of her opinion because of the day-to-day operations you know uh having to and of course with this tough job we all know that but no disparaging on that but um you know he told me that story and it kind of made him stand
up a little straighter and get and feel uh really important but um on the serious side of it administrators do really have a tough job as we all experienced during covid and you know now again getting students and parents back on that track of attending school so um I really appreciate this um this uh resolution and I hope everyone that's out there listening uh really make this a special week for your administrators and administrators at District administrators out on the sites yes so we thank all the administrators not only in our district but throughout all the districts and this is a resolution for a roll call so we have Miss Guerrero aye Ms Percy aye Ms Smith aye it's Ronald Trejo aye and I vote I 5-0 now we're into items of business uh 11.1
uh new board policy nine zero zero excuse me 91105 parentheses 6163.2 in parentheses animals on campus second reading uh some move so we can discuss it second it doesn't have to be we can it can be only information item or it could be going to take it as an information okay I want to make sure yes all right moving on to 11.2 agreement hop skip Drive Inc it's gonna move second Motion in a second any discussion all in favor say aye aye opposed 5-0 11.3 selection of lease lease back contractor for the Western High School site Improvement improvements and gyms modernization RFP number 2024-05. the third and fourth second any discussion let's go let's go let's do it Dr nandy you have something you wanted to say yes that'll be great so um Justin would
you like come up here and so um this is the contractor that we're recommend to the board as the vice president um Justin Senate and um they're actually currently working on the Magnolia um cyber security building for us at this point they also did the um great work at Savannah as well as Oxford and so we are extremely excited that the firm is being selected for the Western um to that the gym projects over there and that's what's the other side Improvement so just want to make sure that um that he's here if you have any questions for him as well does anybody have any questions of the gentleman at the podium is the gentleman at the podium wish to say anything except smile and not just yeah thank you we've uh We've really enjoyed
working for the district over the years it's been maybe five or six years Savannah Oxford all the stage structure work in Magnolia and we've really really enjoyed the partnership and we look forward to starting another one yeah thank you we look forward to it thank you thank you the end result yeah thank you right thank you so on nothing else all in favor say aye aye opposed 5-0 [Music] um Oh I thought there was something else okay um 11.4 yeah 11.4 uh revised board policy 71105 parentheses 6146.1 High School graduation requirements third reading so moved second second and we have a motion in a second any discussion yes I had a quick uh quick uh discussion um for the adjustment of the Civic and cervix learning requirement I just want to read it we're still
um uh we're so committed to Civic and Service Learning but you can speak can you speak a little bit about how we're so honored how would we be honoring that during graduation ceremonies yeah so thank you trustee girls so with the Civic learning uh requirement we're still going to recommend keeping it as a requirement for the discussion of the last board meeting and in the work that we did uh it's going to be one integrated into our Capstone program that now every school has so students will not only have it integrated to that experience but they'll reflect upon that experience as a part of as part of our Capstone and we did speak with uh staff at different sites to get feedback along with our Ed staff and and it was overwhelmed we celebrated moving
this direction when I think a lot of students were recording with the counselors the anxiety it was creating based on a number they were chasing um what we intend to do because there are students who are motivated to earn certain hours uh the plan is at the graduation ceremony is to recognize students based on a potentially a tiered level so keeping the 40 uh hours that was initially put in place as maybe a bronze and then if you go to 75 is silver and then if 100 plus hours would be gold so students can still push for certain hours because we all know on the college application too they want to be able to say hey I did 100 hours of XY service so so we'd be able to still do that and I want
to say that uh I I've had a parent approach me at the one of the back to school nights about that she was very concerned about us getting rid of that requirement so I had to explain to her how we were going to do it how it's still going to be kind of a requirement but we're not saying how many hours but if they want to be involved we have different levels and that they will be getting acknowledgment at graduation for that absolutely advertised and that they um you know staff push you know all the opportunities that students can have to collect those hours absolutely and because how are we going to collect those hours so a couple things so right now it's already self-reported so that's not going to change uh per se but
but I think that once the board takes action right we can begin to publicize this this revision and I think remember all schools are California Market schools they all engage in Civic action projects so they're getting hours just doing that project in and of itself not to mention what they do at semaapalooza the servathon or other service opportunities to clubs activities or just their own I volunteer at the church or whatnot so they'll be able to track the hours in the same way the only thing now is they're not chasing a number for the requirement they're just going for the experience and the reflection that comes with it and for those who are chasing a number they'll get recognized with the medallions yeah I just want to add one thing um the board will be
presented during their um Retreat information about the district's emphasis on what we call the common data sets these are indicators that top universities ivy league Stanford UC look at and Beyond grades and services very highly high on there as well as other things that are more difficult to measure including things like the five C's so more to come on this but it's really an important piece that the board continues to support this and it would be uh um I think advantageous for us to um and I know it's a lot more work but opportunities for our students and just listing those things for example a couple weeks ago I went to help love Anaheim at an event and the coordinator says you can go on their website and they have something every week and when
you go there to volunteer they will give you your your statement right there for students so there it's just uh one I'm sure of many opportunities outside of the scope of our school district but that would be cool if we could get a database you can work on that to get a collection of opportunities and then be able to promote and present to the students so they have options they choose yeah thank you for your work on this and listening to us yes oh our pleasure thank you appreciate it and I have a question about you know service hours our our junior high is doing the same thing with service hours well remember this is a graduation requirement so it's obviously get rich for the high schools but we ex the junior Highs are also
California Market schools so they are also getting the experience as a part of the expectations to get that distinction Civic Action project so they are also doing service hours okay and if you you all have been to SEMA plooza you see we have tons of junior high students there and the junior high students are also part of our servathon et cetera so they're getting these experiences as well so then the Junior High kids can start their service hours if they want and start counting them and they can count them all the way up through Senior High correct and remember the Capstone it's it's both at the junior high and the senior high and the E Cadence stays with the student C portfolio so they can reflect on Junior High experiences in the UK dance platform
and still have them in the platform when they're seniors and when they leave us that's the other thing these students get to keep what they create in the ekadence platform long after they're gone so they can use this for future employers college applications or whatnot so that's the one benefit is it stays with them whereas the previous platform the moment they graduated it kind of went away so how do they keep it do they make it like it's a web-based so it's a URL or a you know a website that that's attached to them so when they when they leave they have their website database they it's it's they can activate it wherever they are web-based their own specific account yeah okay all in favor say aye aye opposed okay moving on to 11.5 it's

know what that's part of uh I'm sorry forget it it's getting late all right let's forget that one we pull that one back before we everybody's looking at me cross I think what's going on over there okay uh superintendent staff report thank you very much I have one um really amazing thing that happened with the district we had Michael fullen author of 45 books on education leadership spent almost a day in the district with his team going deep with our performance task assessments our work with artificial intelligence and at Cadence our work with Community Schools and he specifically wanted to see our farm as well as a cyber security team and uh he is also written about auhsd in his new book called the drivers so um hopefully we'll have a chance to read that
we're looking forward to more work with the doc with Michael fullen I just have two quick reports first of all in in in in connection with what we heard during public comments tonight from OKO in their support of our district and our community school approach I wanted to let you know that next week we're excited we begin our journey this year with a series of visits from different districts and Educators throughout the state as you may recall we are at demonstration district and next week on the 21st of September We Begin our journey our first one for the year where I think we have I don't know over 70 60 some odd people 65 people coming to visit uh and be a part of our leading and learning future lab experience so I'm excited to
share that we also have on that day added to the mix the Stewart foundations board coming to be a part of that experience so that's pretty amazing because as you know they've also funded a number of initiatives in our district so they're coming specifically to learn more about our work with not just Community Schools but they also want to see our Mac lab and just the work being done within our district so another opportunity to engage with with funders who are committed to transforming education so exciting in terms of coming up and I want to thank Carlos Hernandez and his team and of course I know we have a number of Ed staff folks who will be participating in the the leading and learning lab next week because we have so many folks that are
going to be there so thank you guys for your leadership and then I also just wanted to remind everyone because we won't be back together as a group until after this but next month we have two big events right the October 9th is our Ed Summit that's our professional learning day that we we have across the district and I'm grateful that we're going to be to the business office we're going to be back in cook Auditorium so we can bring everyone together again like we've done in the past and I wanted to thank Guyana Fujimoto I know she's not here but her leadership is our coordinator professional learning and of course our amazing curriculum Specialists who really have taken the lead on planning that day where we're going to go deeper as Mike just talked
about with our performance task assessments and our Capstone really making sure the elements of our career preparedness systems framework is Alive and Well in classrooms every day and then that I'll say that for now so oh the October 10th College uh career fair right that's another big event that should be on your calendars uh the biggest college of Carefree there in the world I mean we're bigger than this day we're bigger than country it's it's massive so it's the Galaxy we have the Galaxy so I'm hoping that you can make the time to be at our event at the and I'm convention center but it's it's gonna be spectacular so just want to make sure that's on your calendar on your radar thank you yeah I just want to just take a quick moment just
to recognize all of our administrators um across the district but us and and these that are in the room right now um uh they work tirelessly uh just day in and day out and um uh just what they give to the district and to the students and families and Community um you know you could never you could never Define it so uh thank you from the bottom of my heart and on on the behalf of all of us um it is is so greatly appreciated thank you I'd like to take this time to congratulate the new chief of police for Anaheim I um is Chief Rick armaderes he was soaring today I was invited to attend by him personally so I was very excited to be there today it was a very heartwarming event his
family was there he has three three girls and they lived right here in Anaheim as well and so I just want to congratulate the new Chief and I think for all his effort we were able to put the sros already into our schools at this point we are just a couple uh some of them were still waiting but um if they're coming as you know as we speak and so I have a meeting with him as well next week to talk about some of these other things and he's a great partner already to start and so we're very excited for him so thank you nobody else okay doesn't look like it or a little light over there a little light that's okay Miss Guerrero yes thank you um so this month I had the opportunity
to attend um the auhsd and city of Anaheim liaison meeting so I want to take the time thank mayor Aiken uh new Chief armadaris and many of our Anaheim City staff and auhc staff um for being part of that meeting along with the trustee Randall Trejo I also had the chance to attend the principals meeting and welcome our principals to the upcoming school year and then last week I had the opportunity uh to attend the Mac got a very important visit from the governor's chief Service Officer Josh Friday and our Anaheim Mayor Ashley Aitkin and the students had the opportunity to share their experience with The Californians for all youth jobs Corp scrant which just employed 50 of our auhsc students this summer so I want to thank them for visiting our school thank you
to Magnolia High School for hosting and for our Innovative programs and instructional systems team for their work and putting that together and then it is back to school season so I had the pleasure to attend a few back to schools along with my colleagues I've attended cva's back to school breakfast I attended Sycamore Junior High School's Anaheim high schools Brookhurst Junior High School Katella High School hope and orange View and just want to thank all the parents and families and community that joined us throughout back to school night thank you that concludes Percy okay since uh our last meeting I was able to attend the Mac with the mayor also and the California's for all Grant and it was really a well done presentation I was uh um you know glad I was able to
make it um I love going to the mac and I've advertised the Mac I was up at my Kiwanis meeting um this past month and I I was talking about the mac and I had I had some of them become interested in it so now I've been able to get information from Sabina and I TR you know I sent it out to all the members of my Kiwanis group and hopefully maybe some of them will go they want to see the mac and maybe even order some produce boxes so I thought all right so um and then I uh attended the student discipline committee meeting and that was interesting because um I'm learning what some of our campuses are doing now and I'm a great one about this no phones you know the minute eight
o'clock Rings there's no phone seen it's a great because I think these phones which are not phones they're mini computers are a detriment to our kids okay they should all have Jitter bugs where they all they can do is text and talk you know that should be it of course they you know they think oh you can't do that to us okay I attended the special board meeting where we had to consider the consolidation of Western and orange View and um there were quite a few public speakers and um I I think a number of the community were aware of it and we at in attendance and that was the idea of having the board meeting there at Western so the community could come in and it was at a time that they could come
after you know the school day I also attended the back to school night for Cyprus and Kennedy and I have to say this normally when I go to Kennedy's back to school night every year it has been absolutely scorching this year it was beautiful it was pleasant it wasn't super hot there was a nice breeze and I didn't feel like ah you know I was burning up so that was nice yeah they they got blessed with good weather um and I also attended the Cyprus in the Anaheim Union High School District ad hoc committee meeting where we meet quarterly with the city of Cyprus and discuss the issues that it would be coming up between the city and I am very proud of my city for the cooperation that they give to school district and
we cooperate in many ways and right now I'm very proud of my district for cooperating with the Cypress Parks and Rec where they have allowed the Cypress girls softball to utilize Walker Junior High for practice and play while Cypress Arnold Park is being torn apart and redone which is going to take like a year so we had several Fields sitting unused for quite a while since the Continental Little League left the use of that field so Cypress girls softball came in rejuvenated a couple of fields for softball instead of baseball and they are loving and working hard to do everything that you know is supposed to be done I had to laugh because when I went to the game on Saturday for my youngest granddaughter I looked at the sign up there and it says
no seeds and I went all right no dogs you know they're they're making sure everybody knows and I made the comment they had trash cans at each field but there's only two but he says you really need more than that you know so she's gonna buy four or six more I said you need one in the parking lot you need one here you need one there because people need to be they need to see it easily so they were going to do that so that I want to you know thank the district for working with the city well on that and then I attended the insurance committee meeting and there I guess it was a lot of agreement and nobody wanted to change anything so um we are once again going to be going after
our insurance I won't say anything else okay um and the PTA breakfast I went to the PTA breakfast this week that was really nice and and I had a good rundown of the work of the PTSA and I joined them all along with Brian we were there so we joined them all Peggy wouldn't let me get out because she called me out for not having joined yet so I had to join and one other thing now uh reading the Sunday paper their daily pilot times for Orange County had a nice big spread on one of our girls from Savannah High School so um I'm it's and she was a Girls Inc member and um so I'm going to have Paulina copy this and send it out in our our confidential thing tomorrow but I thought
this was a really nice article and you should all see it now I'm getting this now and I don't know why but I'm getting the LA Times along with the Orange County register and I was on yeah that's okay I like reading it you know I didn't know that was still printed anymore they put our kids in there yeah I knew that from decades yeah well Miss Smith I attended the discipline committee and it's very informative to listen to people give you their experience of what their witnessing in schools and the phone situation and I said to my husband the other day with all the mental health problems that we have in the in this world today the effect on education and our youth and I told my husband I think there is one thing
that mental health is not going to be able to ever change and that is the addiction that our our youth have on their phones I see people riding with their phone on on bicycles going through red stop lights on their phone and kids walking in school and I don't know what the answer to this but it was part of the discussion of the discipline committee because it is a serious situation that we as a society are all dealing with and I hope somewhere somehow this could be rectified because it's frightening and I did attend the Mac event over at Anaheim Magnolia High School and it was lovely and it's a wonderful showpiece which is rather unique and um at the orange view Western board meeting I sat there and I listened to people speak to
us and I'm thinking to myself this is America they could give their views their feelings many of these people were very very upset but you wouldn't have it in Russia or North Korea or maybe Hanoi and I felt very blessed that we live in a country where we can speak as we choose to an elected School Board and not like what their decision is going to be but accept change because change is part of life and it happens and the insurance committee the only comment I have is the health care System in my opinion is partly crumbling it is very very difficult for people to get health care per the way they got it from their for their system or systems that they've been involved in I hear this from numerous people and it's worrisome
one lady told me she has a PPO and she's with anthem and she told me that all the Hoops that she was having to go through to access care so it's life today but um I I had to speak my piece and I want to congratulate Daniela for joining us I hope you like us and I did say to her she'll never forget this as long as she lives she'll share this experience with her children and her grandchildren and other people that she connects because this will be part of your internal conversation with yourself what you learn in this process so welcome it's a joy to have you and lastly I just want to thank you all of you starting with Miss Patty back there because I can't believe what you do and what you
accomplish is beyond my mindset and all of you people are sitting here doing what you do on a daily job and how you make this disorganization proud so thank you Mr alfredo thank you Catherine thank you Mr O'Neill I also want to welcome you to the Deus here and uh we're here to learn from you okay so I know you're going to have opportunities to give us your opinion this year and we look forward to hearing it all right and welcome thank you all right I attended my ROP meeting last night and I think it was probably we set a record we're being the longest ROP meeting um but anyhow we had a great presentation from Michael Holton from loera uh the Drone teacher ROP teacher and he actually brought um the the drones um
I don't know that I didn't remember the the the uh the names of them but it made him in small yeah they were there was a big medium and then there was this a big a small and a tiny okay yeah and he actually demonstrated it in one of our trustees um was brave enough to to fly it so that was a really wonderful um presentation um I attended a wonderful hopes back to school night and it's always a pleasure to go there um and everybody was just so excited and happy to be on campus and the kids were there and teachers are ready to go and um my daughter Arya came with me and she said that she saw somebody a teacher that she knew and lo and behold it was a former Oxford
student teaching at hope school so cool and she used to play volleyball with her so that was an extra treat to find that out and of course the Anaheim liaison meeting oh my gosh that was a pleasure I hope we get to continue doing that um a long time coming for that meeting about our special meeting thank you Catherine for um for your words about um how you know we uh we're democracy here and um you know change is hard for everyone um and I want to thank the committee for um their recommendation I think it was probably the best recommendation that um you know and this this is unfortunate circumstance but I think that was uh probably one of the best recommendations that I've ever seen to um to rectify a situation I call
it a commingling I don't call it a merger and one of the students besides one of our ambassadors who spoke very eloquently Western student um who who really is embracing the idea and looking at it as an opportunity to really Mentor the incoming students there I was very proud of him for that but also another student who said that um she probably is not going to like their decision but she will respect it you remember her and um I I was very touched I thought she modeled you know um adult Behavior so I'll leave it at that um I'm looking forward to uh Saturday uh cyprus's 50th um anniversary and all the uh fun things coming our way and I have a future ask coming up so your turn my turn okay thank you ladies
real quick I unfortunately have only been able to attend four back to school nights this year because of other uh ICA commitments out of the area um yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the PTA breakfast which is always a joy to get up at be here at seven o'clock in the morning um but it's always enjoyable to see people and and hear what PTA has to say it's a educational and last night was our ROP board meeting as as you just heard that it was very informative we had a long long uh closed session that's what really took us into the late hours of the night but you never know what that's going to bring so it was always interesting uh that's all I have for for that except I want to welcome you
to the diocese we look forward to hearing about you and uh your reports in the future and hearing your comments and uh keep an open mind it's a learning experience I'm sure that you'll take get a lot of good takeaways from us from what you hear you see from the audience what you know the presentations like tonight was a perfect night for for uh people to come up and and speak their minds and you got to hear that first chance of those are the type of things that you're going to hear in the future so it's a good experience for you um that said I want to thank the administrators sitting to my right and out in the audience and everybody that is not here and that is looking online for all the work that
you do in educating Our Youth and supporting the teachers and all everybody uh it's it's amazing what what takes place and people just cannot appreciate how much uh effort that goes into developing the programs and then getting it out to to the students and that's those are our customers our students so with that said we have future planning dates of October 12th is our next meeting date at 6 pm except for closed session beforehand and Thursday November 16th after that and suggested agenda item somebody mentioned that yes yes and I want to personally thank uh Jared I forgot I knew there was something I forgot Jaron went to the Anaheim council meeting and we didn't get to speak for five hours we were there from five to ten oh my God and it was 10
o'clock before we were able to speak but I want to personally thank you for your words and your dedication to our district it was very important that you be there representing Michael and everyone and Dr Danny was also there from Anaheim elementary school and uh it it it it helped a lot so thank you for that I would like to ask because I think there is a misconception about what sros are and I think that we really need to um do a presentation here to really talk about the positive of you know what they bring to our community absolutely if it's okay with the board we're still waiting I think on the final two estros from Anaheim to be processed so once they are in place we'd like to do a presentation where we can
actually invite not only our sros and Anaheim but our sros who are in La Palma and Cyprus as well so you can be introduced to all of them and then we can also talk about the program and what it looks like and what it isn't super yeah so once we have this process we can bring it to the the most upcoming board meeting after that thank you uh I know August has passed but I would love the board to consider recognizing August as Chicano Chicano Heritage Month it was recently recognized by the Orange County led by supervisor Sorrento and was introduced in the federal government by Congressman Korea and it honors our community in civil rights for Mexican Americans which many of our students identify as um so I would love to see that in
the future August meetings let's look at that okay do you have anything more than um I I can submit some language or some yeah forward yes I can okay we'll do thank you okay my turn I guess sure I have something okay I brought this up but I wanted I I got a email or a text from Connor trout of Buena Park and I would like to read this to you because this is something I want us to consider every year the city of Buena Park partners with the Fullerton joint Union High School District to create and install 25 light pole banners across North Buena Park to honor 25 students the Banners are installed prior to graduation remain hung through the end of summer then are given to the students and their families at our
Buena Park Goes to College event the total cost is approximately 4 000 a year split 50 50 between the city and the district I continue to believe that the city must do more to ensure equal focus on auhsd students and families in South Buena Park as it does with the Fullerton joint Union High School District and Buena Park High why I am reaching out I'd like to create a similar program with Anaheim Union where we honor 25 students split as five students from each high school with attendance boundaries in our city that would be Cyprus Kennedy Oxford Savannah and Western uh would you be interested in to you know to partner to make this a reality and so um he was reaching out to me but I said you know I think that's a great
idea and I wanted to bring it up and I think you know and I approached it but I wanted everyone to hear that because this is the one thing every time I go to the Buena Park state of the city you know I'm waiting to see if they say anything about Anaheim Union we have five schools that have their students now I don't know how many we have but Buena Park kids go to all five schools so finding five you know seniors and whatever I think would be great because they live in Buena Park mm-hmm no and they go to our schools so I'd like to I'd like to see something about working this out interesting to look into and see how it's done and yeah yeah okay all right okay with that said do
we have a motion it's all moved second any discussion we can do 4-0 all in favor say aye aye four zero good night everyone good night
