nobody's there business staff Anna you're extending the meeting time Anna's working the crowd here a passing review in the military I'll stand there as everybody walks by yeah [Laughter] all right Mrs Piercy is back with us all right next we have a student board speakers Andrew uh kind of posano [Music] good evening members of the board um people left in the audience um I wanted to just support today to speak on an issue that has been facing our students recently this year um my name is Andrew Campuzano I am a yeah thank you can you guys hear me yeah okay perfect um my name is Andrew Campuzano I am a youth commissioner for the Anaheim second district um I am also a pointista I am a 4.0 GPA student and I'm here on behalf of

my students and my fellow Scholars um I come from a dreamer household my father came here attended auhsd and um he always tells me to push myself and to work hard for everything it is when I go to school I go with the mentality that I'm here to work and um something that we have seen is that the board has decided that we may no longer have sashes at our graduation and that upsets me as a student simply because for me sashes represent us as a student as students and as Scholars um sashes mean more than just something that we wear at graduation and something that's decorative they represent our accomplishments and they represent what we have worked so hard for um me as a student I have seen many challenges and many setbacks I

had to take up a part-time job and then I had to go home and work very very long work and finish my homework after working those long night shifts um and that's tough and it's sad to see that I'm working so hard and I may not be able to Showcase that um and I do know that we have presented the alternative of pins but for us sashes have just shown so much of a symbol and they've just really grown on us um the reasons why the district has not put up sashes as a new question is funds students and clubs and organizations are willing to put up the funds and we have seen a number of petitions that have um been willing to pay for the sessions okay um and another reason is the less

academically inclined but I am living proof right now that any student can wear sashes and it's not simply because we are smart it's because we work hard and we are willing to do what it takes to present ourselves um please help us please hear us out please look at these petitions and help us achieve the unlimited you thank you thank you Andrew next we have matzo no that's fine no oh I'm sorry wait a minute yeah just hold on for a minute I only have one student speaker form yeah is there another speaker okay all right uh next we have reports of associations I see nobody here from associations see no one here from PTA for 7.3 so now we have public comments now okay that's fine okay our Castillo come forward and you need

to talk to the young man about the age difference don't call me old man I need to set him straight I haven't uh colored my hair so really young just just go well okay thank you no good evening it's nice to hear this young man fighting for something that he feels is right and respect I also was a uh I'm a 50 years in the martial arts Kung Fu and with and uh the ancient Chinese were uh sashes there were no such thing as really belts and it would be an honor to wear a sash when you're getting your colors yellow red and you know to signify who you are so I like to support you on that and I hope maybe there is also people that can uh out there with 513c maybe so

we have some great people like Bill terminos and people like that maybe they can talk to and and help the funding with those that can we did that also and times where we were as uh uh lulac a legal Latin American citizens and we would go to these uh hotels and the young kids that wanted to graduate and we bought them suits so again you know know for me as being a product of the school third generation is my my niece and my grandniece and the kids and all that you know that's why I come I used to come here a lot I used to participate and be the only one in the audience as a and also the City School Board and you know my my objective was I seen what I had to

go through and I saw the changes back in the days we all went through them especially the ones that uh have been on the board a long time and the diversity of changes of the language and everything so and again I come not to ever attack anybody is to come and tell you how when what happened to me or how I went through it because I shared it that I saw others going through the same so my my opportunity to come here and speak to the board here is to Enlighten how we went through those changes but with again respect this is my the martial arts we have to learn respect so my whole thing is not to attack and try to use the right wording to not to offend but um and those that

times when we were offended um I wish to try to bring it in the lighters aspect of uh so that's understanding that we're not you know we need to come together and the changes and this young man I hope that you all support them because it's your you know that's the duty of the the board is to help the children help the kids and that's mine too so I'd like to um you know again um being respectful to the youth and getting them as their young adults and they should be heard and again as I advocated for young uh men that were sometimes they get into a little trouble I would speak to the principal and change the outcome because they listen to them you know and uh because I was there too and I

wanted somebody to believe me and so uh I said why are we gonna throw somebody out five minutes education and be out in the street we need to educate them and I even went to other districts other cities and they um listened to that and thought well yeah we are you you know for for education and all those people that they did uh did not expel they became you know good parents and and people that uh serve our community and our in our as as in our our military and everything else and I come from a background at my uh we call them the ants but they're like second cousins so they're older and uh they were part of the Head Start in the bilingual I have a teacher a a cousin like if I

want to say aunt that was in the elementary the elementary school district they were teachers and uh young young ladies that I ended up raising some young ladies that became teachers and uh went on to other cities when they moved and you know when they marry their their High School boyfriends and are living well and doing business and so the education was that even at elementary I would take them go to their uh uh you know to their City boards and all that to try to uh support them and so uh that's my goal is to keep the kids off the streets and have them you know be be productive so I just wanted to thank you guys and I'll come by and give you some little history but today we had some children I

thought it was when I got to talk like anything negative but you know when there's children I don't like to have them hear things that adults should you know only hear thank you very much and good evening master quality good afternoon Buenas Tardes I spoke to you again in the Nawa meshika language the ancient language of the Mexican Chicano indigenous peoples um just want to say that I was at the Anaheim City Council and I you know mentioned about how we came here with a a state recognized tribal member uh um gabrielanos and how he felt how we feel in the Barrios in their in all these bodies here in the city of Anaheim where how we feel about the term colonists at Anaheim High School how it's important to change that name because what

it represents so myself and Artie and other organizations work in these varios we have a Mexican Aztec dance group we meet every Monday and Friday um in Downtown City Hall in the back area actually myself and Dr Jose Moreno a couple other people in the community helped build that playground we're getting dirty and sweating out there it's really nice to get to know the community and I just wish that some of our people would be more involved you know but sadly in every Barrio when I say Barrio is like you know it's a small community of Mexicans indigenous peoples Chicanos that live together band together work together as a community and so there's a lot in every and everybody there's a liquor store I don't see those liquor stores in Anaheim Hills and uh it's

it's like um it's like we're being set up in this Matrix to not succeed the point that I'm making here is when I was 12 years old I came and I spoke for Chicano history Chicano studies I was 12 years old I wish we can look back I'm going to look into that when I came and spoke here um my grandpa taught me educate uh don't know what language history and uh I got my bachelor's at The Institute of American and arts I'm an alumni one day I'll get my sweater I'm actually heading that way we meet uh every summer time we go over there there's a thing called the Indian market I recommend all of you to go in Santa Fe New Mexico the Indian market and uh we have a museum you know

and we just come together band together and we have meetings about what issues we talk about like the school mascot the school names in Anaheim Hills we have a school called the Comanche Warriors that's very unappropriate actually no Comanche tribal members and when I they asked me what were you from Anaheim oh what could you go to Katella Anaheim and what's the name of your high school or the colonists whoa why is it called the colonist man they did a lot of bad things to our ancestors and still to this day if you know history you know you're present and your future like me abuelito would say Arturo so it's very important that we work with the gabrielenos and Jeremy um is is going to be emailing you Dr there's a anthropologist that will be

emailing you I forgot his name um and also uh I was going to have a military a Chicano Mexican-American military veteran that was going to come and speak and he's a park razor park ranger here as well but he couldn't make it you know I wish he was here because it would keep it going but it takes time it's very hard and um there's just a lot of traffic out here right now guys it's really expensive for some of us but one day maybe I'll be in the school board from the city council or I I when I became a U.S citizen my router from Oaxaca a Vietnamese lady interviewed me over there in Santa Ana on the one of those floors upstairs government building she says any questions for me I said yes uh

can I become now a president of the United States of America just says sadly no uh because uh there's like laws that you're supposed to be born in the U.S that really broke my heart you know because if I did I would become from the first Mexican indigenous that speaks now at Spanish and English to honor the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo 1848 there's a treaty that was signed and even Native American treaties have been broken it hadn't been promised Holland is the first Native American woman to uh run for secretary that's a very big position that she has so she's changed those names like Squad it's a very racist term or a man that black horse we work with her she got rid of the mascot Redskins you know NFL football team so there's changes

coming we're organizing we're working with students and everybody sadly I see a lot of my people doing drugs and alcohol and that really breaks my heart and to end we come with the big heart with mucho respect with a lot of respect I have a lot of respect for you guys it's a lot of work it's not easy to do what you guys do and with time we can heal together and a lot of people my friend Raul was a football player Anaheim high school he committed suicide and I was teaching him about history about the colonists and he started to wake up more about his roots you know and he never liked his dark skin maybe one day I'll talk about how I was ashamed of being dark I wanted to be white I

would put lime limone on my skin I don't want to talk about the kids I get kind of emotional but thank you guys [Applause] next 9.1 adoption local control and accountability plan lcap an annual update removed second you have a motion in a second there's nothing to or doctor it's just yeah yeah just want to make sure that there's nothing to say okay all right um so we have a motion a second all in favor say aye aye opposed 5-0 uh 9.2 resolution number 2022-23-b-14 committed fund balance this is for the general funds second Motion in a second any discussion uh okay Miss uh Gutierrez I'm sorry it's okay okay yeah O'Brien or Neil O'Brien yes Miss Percy yes Smith yes yes I I vote I sorry about that Jessica probably won't be the last

time yeah all right six point uh nine point three four oh no yeah just turn the page resolution number 2022-23-b-15 adjustments to income and expenditure general fund and resolution number 20 22-23-b-16 adjustments to income and expenditures various funds uh all proposed budget all funds and we'll take both at the same time 9.4 resolution number 2022-23-b-17 education protection account so move second motion a second any discussion I had a question certainly uh it says that the um okay my question is are there any other restrictions to this funding um besides the administration administrative salaries described and then I would like to describe like an um sorry I can't read my own writing would you can you describe what an administrative cost would be so for for this account basically is a a um so when we

get our base dollar from lcff so um whatever balance we don't get from this account then this week at the state age so basically whatever portion into this account they said just we um charge the teacher salaries into this account that's what we're doing so we don't want to charge any admins or you know principles we don't judge any of that into this account benefits included to them yes yes we can do all that as well and so but basically this is not enough to pay for you know like the the total net so we um charge um some of them into our base um dollars run to a general fund it's just a it's just another account to account for the money for that is that the only restriction uh yes for now I

mean it's it's not enough to charge all our salaries over so we just charge um the maximum into the account okay prior before we didn't have this in the past but something that's newer so any other questions seeing done Miss Guerrero aye Ms Percy aye Smith aye vote I five zero 9.5 resolution number 2022-23-ft f-09 approval of notice of exemption for the district-wide HVAC and ventilation Improvement project that's a roll call vote any discussion yes I had a question um are we exempting this from the facilities master plan is that what the exemption I just need clarification of what we're exempting exempting this from going to siqua or yeah so these these um a lot of these units are like for like Replacements so we are using the um bokeh from the Esther dollar so

basically these um it's a the same unit we're exchanging a unit out so it's there's no so there's no yes exactly okay that helps yes it does not require that sequel um process and it's faster okay thank you any other questions see none Miss Guerrero aye Ms Percy aye Ms Smith aye Mr Randall Trejo aye and I vote I Business Services 9.6 agreement North Orange County Regional occupational program reimbursement for facility improvements so I moved second motion a second any questions then all in favor say aye aye opposed 5-0 9.7 school resource officer agreement city of Anaheim second Motion in a second any discussion yes yes okay um yes um so we appreciate the collaboration between the city and the police department for being a stakeholder and addressing our school safety but I just wanted

um to ask I know this is not the first Sr SRO agreement we have we have some with our other surrounding City cities yes can you speak to that yes definitely so um currently we have one SRO in the city um in the city of Cyprus so um and basically that one is our serves the three schools within the Cypress Community the second one we have is with the city of La Palma and um that serves the Kennedy High School as well as Walker and so we are extremely excited to enter this agreement with the city of Anaheim and I do want to take this time to thank the deputy chief Rick amedares for um helping with the entire process he has also met with our team at the district office as well with under

the direction of Dr Adam Hernandez as well and so we are looking um I know that we're very excited about this process and the city has expressed a lot of interest in this and would like to further even expand the program so that's why we are hearing from them as well and so once this is approved we will be meeting with them again to go through that but I do want to to thank um the deputy chief for all his hard work to get his agreement done this quickly as well yes thank you and then um the agreements with Cyprus and La Palma they also utilize grant funding so those that are using grants um so since this is a um something new we're bringing back um we are cost sharing this item with the

city of Anaheim at this point our goal is to look into grants so that these can be fully paid for for the city of Cyprus as well city of Palma we do not pay into those programs and so we're very optimistic with the deputy Chiefs to explore um Grant funding's um shortly so that's our goal okay that was gonna be my third question thank you thank you to clarify oh so okay I was just gonna ask ask about the grant do you are those grants ongoing or do you know with La Palma and Cyprus so far they have been ongoing and so whatever they need from us we will make sure that we work with them to get those grants and so um obviously these um police chief they do know each other and so

I've also um talked to um the deputy chief if he needs any support from from me I do know the um the Chiefs in Cyprus as well that we can definitely tapped on them and to ask to see what other different things that we can possibly apply but I believe they do expire in 24 25 yes 24 25 is the one where they're always 425 in Cyprus they're both the same right oh okay but we I think they are continually applying for Grants like constantly so the department police departments are doing it right yeah no but I just didn't know how long the grants were and it was you know okay three years so and just for clarification um this is really the first time that that the high school district has had too uh

pay into this this is the first time correct and also uh uh Mr matsuda could you explain the difference between an SRO and a typical officer and what this means yeah there's a big difference between the two we've been working very closely with all of our police Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs on the criteria in the training for the school resource officers and I think as the community is aware that there are there is tension between the the police and the community members including some of our young people so we're working very closely in terms of making sure that the right disposition and profile and training of these school resource officers are you know are appointed and selected and the the sros on the west side are are really really good people in terms of their

ability to connect with young people and to connect with the community as well as the staff there so we're monitoring that very closely trustee I'd like to know what weapons do sros carry they just like any police officers they do have a sidearm yes but they will be um they're not in the full uniform they have a special uniform designating them as a school resource officers and so there's a difference in even their physical appearance years ago um Anaheim Police Department had a community policing program and probably 30 years ago I would go out on ride-alongs with them and it's a wonderful way to get into the community to observe from their ears and their eyes and their experiences and you learn a lot about the community you live in and how it is worked

with the different entities and I'm just thinking we have a new mayor and it would I think be very valuable for her to do a community policing drive right along and I think these SRO officers are very competent of meeting young people talking with them connecting with them understanding what their lives are about and um so thank you okay any more discussion okay see none all in favor say aye aye opposed thank you uh thank you sorry go ahead I was just saying thank you to Nancy for working on the project uh appointment and resignation of citizens oversight Bond oversight committee members 9.8 so move second no Motion in a second just I wanted to uh thank uh form our the Committee Member that has resigned Mr uh Grant Rowan for his time that he

a grant opportunity to help address some of the teacher shortages that we're faced with the state so it's a student teaching program where the student teachers in this program get reimbursed for their tuition fees Etc but and they get additional wraparound Support Services through their teaching student teaching experience and if they complete I think so many years I think it's five years of teaching then they get reimbursed with their with all their fees and whatnot so it's a great way to encourage folks to get into the profession with a lot of their their costs covered and this goes to 20 20 . correct and I believe off top my head it's 15 teachers five and bilingual support and then 10 or either math or science stem related okay great opportunities yeah it's really a good

thing because it had become difficult I think for as far as I'm as concerned when I my one of my last years of teaching I had a student teacher through Cal State Fullerton they expected them to student teach all year long and not work so it's like wait a minute how are these people supposed to survive you know so this is at least helping them a little with I Hope they've eased up on this not working thing but it's helping them with tuition and that and so but then one other thing about this I because I'd ask Jared a little bit more about this if they have this money uh forwarded to them in other words they pay their tuition and all that they have to agree to teach four years after their student teaching

and then if they don't teach the four years it doesn't have to be with us it's anywhere they have to then repay that money that was spent on their tuition and such within the state of California within the state of California I would imagine yeah okay anything else okay all in favor say aye aye opposed 5-0 next is uh 9.20 Amer agreement West Coast University Inc any discussion see none all in favor say aye aye opposed five zero 9.21 revised board policy 6317.25 in parentheses 41 19.22 professional attire first reading so moved second okay this is information only but I think we're all in agreement so no more action on that one yes okay next is 9.22 and this is a information item only but I would like to bring up this is uh on

exhibit r I would like to make a recommendation this since this is the first reading I guess I should read it revised board policy ten three two five in parentheses 9323 meeting conduct revised board policy number of adult student members and terms of office first reading so I would like to make a suggestion on in exhibit R the third paragraph I'd like to change some of what it says here says the board believes that late night meetings deter me public participation can affect the board's decision making a building can be a burden to staff and then I'd like to change the reading to say regular board meetings shall be presided over by the president or his designee in an efficient manner keeping in mind that those in the audience are community members students and District

employees are attending on their own time and they need their personal rest before attending to their next day's affairs Ryan where did you say did you say that third paragraph third exhibit r page one third paragraph okay and it would be um I will start over again it says the board believes that late night meetings deter public participation can affect the board's decision-making ability and can be a burden to staff I'd like to strike the rest of that paragraph and and add this instead regular board meetings shall be presided over by the president or as designee in an efficient manner keeping in mind that those in the audience are community members students and District employees are attending on their own time and they need their personal rest before attending to their next day's affairs so

that is a recommendation I would like to add to that it is sometimes very difficult to think about people that come here commute to work and are here 8 30 in the morning is that when when Connie comes and Paulina 7 30 7 30. and sometimes these meetings go on into late evening and then Patty and people like you have to go to Long Beach and it worries me and I feel terrible inside when these meetings go on unnecessarily with so much chatter because I just don't think that people that are sitting at this table live in other people's shoes and understand how important it is to these days go into nights these are 12-hour days with commute time and so with that in mind I would just support um I just think we do

have to have a termination time well I'm not saying I'm saying we don't we shouldn't have a time set because at times we do have to go past that time I said that they should be any presided over in an efficient manner okay how do you interpret that an efficient manner would be not sitting around talking and telling stories and and pontificating on something that we stick to the point and we get the meeting done on a in a timely and efficient manner and then board reports very very quick yeah they get it out I've tried them where we've been over here for 45 minutes telling our stories and if we take if we keep it down to a couple minutes a piece I mean the audience is out here like I said they're on

their own time they're they got here early in the morning and we want to get them home so if we do it efficiently we'll get them out of here as as efficiently as possible thank you as well proposing okay thank you so that was just an information item next consent calendar anybody wishing yes before you move did you make this suggestion in writing right here okay you got it okay I sure did um consent calendar anybody wishing to poll an item I'm pulling 10.28 AAA and 10.29 okay Motion in a second all in favor say aye aye opposed okay 10.28 AAA and 10.29 second Motion in a second all in favor say aye aye opposed abstain one so it's four zero one thank you moving on to number 11 superintendent and staff report thank you

president I have a quick report I do want to acknowledge that the auhsd is represented by three amazing students three of 17 who have been appointed as national student leaders on the national healthy youth School youth Council sponsored by Kaiser Permanente their role is to address health issues facing young people across America and the three students are luqman Muhammad of Oxford Academy Michelle Guzman from Anaheim High School Alyssa mudang from Magnolia and I had a chance to talk to the students and they're pretty sophisticated leaders addressing food insecurity food deserts things like body image on social media and as it all relates to academic stress and dealing with the mental health issues not only in auhsd but Across America so we should be very proud of these three of 17 who were selected nationally so

these are will be seniors next year Rising seniors that's right amazing all right thank you news I do have a quick report so I had an opportunity recently to go to Surrey Canada with 11 other of our colleagues to learn from the Surrey School District uh four other directors went with me and and seven of our teachers and I'm proud of the work that we got to do there with them they're a forward-thinking district their Providence through the ministry their competency base which is skill based so they don't have the standardized tests that we have in our country they they're very skill based so they have a Capstone so we got to learn and work with their teachers uh and and in fact our teachers got to co-plan units that we're going to co-teach with

their teachers now that we've lived in the zoom World our students actually last week through ocals horizontal got to through summer programs got to interact with students from Canada in a co-taught lesson and then in the fall there's gonna be some work done around science and sustainability with some of our science teachers and their science teachers so a lot of good things came out of that experience and then for our team we got to spend some time with their research data and evaluation team knowing that we're collecting a lot of data with our community schools and just work that we do in general how do we know that what we're doing is working we got to learn from their team how they collect data how they utilize it and how they communicate in a way

that's user friendly so more to come from that experience but uh we had a great time in Canada with that team and learned a lot great glad to hear it no report no report no yes so I just saw a short report tonight so I did attend the Cypress Police Department open house a few weeks ago I also attended the city of Anaheim state of the city I met with a lot of folks from um city of Anaheim that day and then finally just this past uh past monday um Patty Nelly our executive director of facilities and as well as our board member um Mrs Piercy and um and myself we were at the Cypress city council we presented on the Cypress High School athletic fields are there so they they asked for us to

to give them a report on what's Happening um at Cypress high school so we were there thank you thank you I just wanted to recognize that this is the first year that we are officially uh celebrating Juneteenth on Monday so the district will be closed so I just hope everyone has a good day of reflection and celebration on Monday thank you okay so I had the privilege and opportunity to attend a conference in Philadelphia Community School and family engagement conference this past week there was uh 13 of our all 13 of our community school sites were represented as well as a couple of our other sites that are we're hoping that we'll be receiving some grant funding in the near future there was over 4 000 Educators that attended this conference in Philadelphia this National

Conference and obviously we we were exposed to some great Keynotes a ton of different workshops ranging from how to address our chronic absenteeism and attendance issues Through The Eyes of a community schools model to curriculum in the classroom and looking at how curcum in the classroom and the importance of things like culturally responsive teaching and the role that would play in in the classroom as it uh you know and how it fits in the community school model we we have a survey that is currently out to all of the folks that attended and we've ask them to in that survey include best practices that they learned or gleaned from any of the workshops they attended to upload resources and then also indicate their thoughts on on the conference itself it was worth attending why or

why not obviously we we had a lot of folks attending and and spent some categorical funding on this so we want to know was this something that was is worth attending in the near future do we send a smaller team do we not go at all so we'll be going over all of that data in the coming weeks a few people are on vacation so we're hoping to get some some some good stuff out of that and look at the best practices that we gleaned from that Workshop one of the things that I really appreciate about the um the conference itself is the opportunity to come together with folks from different sites continue to build the relationships Network get to know more of each other as we know the importance of those relationships and and

just do some you know some really some some thinking around how to continue to build cohesion within our community school model with both uh the roles of each of our folks and how that ties into the importance of what we're doing in the classroom not just the wraparound services but then what's happening in the classroom one thing that I just wanted to point out one of our Keynotes talked about the importance of culture as a big part of the community school model and how we service our families our students our staff and and really centered around the word love right and he mentioned um how love he has an acronym that he learned from I'm not remembering who he got it from but spelled Luv and we have to just continue to listen to our

staff to our students to our community understand and validate so Luv love so listen understand and validate thank you okay that was 12. now we go on to 13 board reports Miss Guerrero yes thank you I'll do a quick report tonight as well I'm just highlighting some of the events that I attended in May I attended the California Civic learning students showcase uh recognizing Sycamore Junior High School Gilbert High School and Hope High School for being recognized as the California democracy school I attended the Capstone interviews at Sycamore Junior High School the classified employee of the Year Awards and then the cape seal of Excellence recognition and I am high school who was recognized as the first High School in the state of California to receive the bilingual education seal of Excellence I also attended

the retirement T employee celebration then I'm high school dla banquet and the UCI school of education Gala event um recognizing our superintendent as the outstanding Community partner of the Year award and then um one of the goals of mine when I was on the board was to visit our high schools before they left for graduation so I completed all of my site visits I completed a Walker Junior High School in Kennedy High School over the last two so I just want to take the time to thank all the principals for the warm welcome um and to Paulina who helped set up those sites and then lastly we held our graduations in May so congratulations to the class of 2023 um it was my first graduation season and it was amazing to see all of our

students and families and teachers and staff support for them and I want to give a shout out to all the staff that worked graduations um from picking up the chairs to those that helped us line up to the assistant principals that lined up the students uh just thank you all around to all of staff that made it a very successful graduation season and that concludes my report thank you [Applause] okay um I attended the insurance meeting this month and then I went to Western High School on to meet with their measure H follow-up and here are the comments of the faculty and whatever and they went over what is going to be happening at Western um then I met with uh not met with but I was at a breakfast meeting with Senator I mean

with assemblywoman Quirk Silva then later in that day I went on to a visit at orangeview Junior High School from Senator Newman and he was there quite a bit of the day and that was very interesting had a really good they performed really well for him and did a bunch of really neat stuff and then I went from one room to another with him and got to bend azir about some ideas which was kind of fun I not that I ever do anything like that but I was giving him some of my opinions as usual okay and then later that afternoon I watched the budget revision meeting through csva it was online uh the next week I went to the Lexington choir show Sherry patinga does a phenomenal job with these kids she's got this

humongous humongous group of seventh and 8th graders that do a really cute job of Performing and singing and you've got the choir you have the guitar kids you've got the um you know all the musicians and it was just an excellent job um and then I attended the retirement t for our uh staff that are retiring this year and then started the um oh I missed the classified Awards I attended the classified awards that wasn't online was it you said online Brian I'm like not online no we actually had the awards here um and then we started graduations and we I attended hope at the k-pac and then Oxford and each of the days and not every one of them but a lot of them and it was always I love graduations and then uh

the last thing I did besides the lcat meeting was the Buena Park meeting where we had our liaison meeting with Buena Park and that was quite interesting it was in informative and I love the positive comment that Jeff I mean Jim okay I can't remember his last name the parks and rec guy he's you know he made a comment about wanting to work with us the school district if you know in any way that he can so that was very good thank you Ms Smith well um I just would like to reiterate that the graduations were remarkably well done and the entire setup over there at handle with the flowers everything was just beyond imagination how it was humanly possible to pull that off and then get parking in people in and out for each

graduation ceremony and um I just want to tell you um not many people here but I am so grateful for the work that these all of you and these people put into running this school district it is a huge job and our young people have suffered tremendously from this covid and all of the mental problems that they're having to deal with in their lives and what the teachers are having to deal with it's not easy to teach when a lot of children are just not doing well and it's beyond tragic nobody could ever imagine a pandemic and how it has hit this world and all of the economics everything that we do in our lives has been touched by this pandemic how you drive a car how you get gasoline to a pump how you

drive a truck how you run a school how you run a hospital so I'm just here to say I'm grateful for this country I'm grateful for wonderful people that do hard hard work managing the money and what we pull off and I just want to thank all of you for your time and just being here found Trejo thank you I attended my ROP meeting retirement T the classified employees of the Year all wonderful events put on for our employees and the Civic learning student showcase at the Nixon Library was exceptional I'm just so proud of our last schools getting to to be able to do that and kudos to Hope School um they had to be put under the same grid the same requirements as all of our other schools so I'm just so pleased

that we have 20 schools now represented in Civic learning engagement and that's just a fantastic accomplishment such a short amount of time I was able to go to or had an opportunity again to go to the Opera with the Gilbert High School students in LA and I think they are going to have another opportunity in the fall so um I'll I'll hop on board for that and also I am proud to say that I attended all of the graduations and just from start to finish again thank you to everyone and I was able to thank everyone publicly so I hope they heard that we were so great thankful I'm appreciative to just just knowing that everyone that signs up for that they really do it they do it on purpose they love it every year

they they have great respect for our kids and reverence in doing um you know all the tasks and everything looked just absolutely gorgeous I think um you know no fault last year or the year before but I think this year's was actually the best ever with everything that came through I don't think there was a glitch in any of our any of our ceremonies so congratulations and Kudos that's just a huge undertaking but it's such a culmination of what we do in our district and um and we did it proud and that's my report thank you thank you well you you said only one ROP meeting we had two ROP board meetings which we both attended and I attend a second uh ball uh Capstone interviews and I attended the student film festival at catella

which is a really treat to see what our students do in the way their creativity uh Kennedy choir show always a great performance put on by Miss Janae West uh for she changed I'm sorry Sergeant um classified employee of the year the event is always enjoyable event to see the people that are recognized attended the cabbie seal of Excellence award at Anaheim High School uh retirement T is always a pleasure to hear what people are going to be doing in their future their next life away from work uh the PTA honorary service award event I attended that unfortunately I only got to 11 graduation I did get to go to Katella because I was out of town at that time but there was I have to ditto what everybody said it was a great event

uh everybody put in a lot of hard work from our Securities uh staff all the way up to the superintendent everybody in between that's uh did a great job and I I say congratulations and thank you so much for such a a great event for our students and parents um I attended a senior award tonight at Kennedy where they recognize students for all the scholarships they have earned uh I also attended Mr matsuda's award outstanding Community partner award at UCI so that was a very nice event to attend so congratulations Mike for earning that and with that advanced planning future meeting dates our next meeting will be July 20th and uh any suggested agenda items I do I would like to put out the thought that perhaps maybe we should go back to the old

um former's school year where school starts in September and ends in June and I think that because that was done for the AP tests those don't are not functioning as it used to be and I think that to keep our air conditioning going in August is stupefying and if we start in September and end in June like most other schools do I know that in the newspapers I've been watching all the graduations that have just come into reality in the last days so that's number one and number two in Dr Billings was here uh we bought that bus out there and it was used as a mobile Library to go into the community and it sits there and I'm hoping maybe somebody can come up or we as a group can come up with some

meaningful uses for it because it just sits there and we have community members that might be able to get some valuable services from it I don't know but I throw it out for whatever it's worth I want to pipe in on the first suggestion for the calendar year and what I would like also if we're going to discuss it I would like to see what the year or the calendar year is for the majority of the school districts around us because I am I've seen the same thing every other school has been ending up in June and you know from the first week to the second week to you know almost the third week this is a very mild time of year we don't need air conditioning we almost need heating sometimes in June and

yet when we go back August 1st almost we're or the seventh we're boiling Okay and like I've said before I think we need to as a school district realize what we need to do as part of the whole climate change and do our best where we are not utilizing air conditioning and all that electricity and you know in the month of August when we could start in September where we're going to need it but at least it would be one month instead of two and continue through into June which is very nice and pleasant almost raining okay and then our students wouldn't be uh you know let's say sweltering out on the on the field in August so anyway I'm also with this and and I'm not through well I'm not giving up I'm not

sure that it's that it's an item to be agendaized yet I think maybe we need to ask the staff to to come back with some uh research showing you're talking about the climate the temperatures uh what are the pros and cons for what we're doing now or doing something changing down the road so right and also in part of that um I would truly like to see a survey of our St our people and our employees in the district as to what they think about the calendar uh according to what I've heard uh asked to a survey but it never really revealed what their survey you know showed except oh well they like it well you know we've how many years have we done this now it's going on 10 years we are it's taken

several years enough for us to to get to that I know it takes time to change I'm you can't do it on the dime all right but I'm also saying but I believe what we thought before things have changed and we need to change as well we can't discuss this it's not an agendized item ladies and gentlemen I'm the gentleman I was just saying that I agree with her so can uh can we direct staff to do some research thank you okay can we have a motion on any any other items okay thank you one and all so I have a motion second and a second all in favor say aye aye
