You may be seated and special guests too. Good morning and Buenos parents, family members, students and staff and dignified guests. Welcome to the 2023 Savannah High School commencement ceremony. My name is Mike Pulley. I'm the proud principal here at Savannah High School and I will be your master of ceremonies today. Today is a great day. It's a special day. One we are excited to celebrate together. This ceremony is both a joyous and solemn occasion. Please let us remember to be courteous to those around us. We need to be respectful
to our seniors during the ceremony. So, please no air horns or noise makers. Please remain seated while filming or taking photos. And remember to keep the recording device at chest level to not impede the vision of others seated around you. Please keep the aisle and walkways open throughout the entire ceremony. Today's ceremony is being livereamed and will remain on the district's YouTube channel to view at your convenience. It is so great that we can all be together today to celebrate the class of 2023. Without further ado, let's begin. At this time, I'd like to introduce McKenna Moore, our current ASB president, who will lead us in the pledge of allegiance. After the pledge of allegiance, please remain standing for our national anthem that will be performed by our very own Savannah High School band and
choir. Thank you, Mr. Pulley. Will the audience please rise for the pledge of allegiance? Place your right hand over your heart. Ready, begin. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Please remain standing while the Savannah Band and Choir plays our national anthem. By the dark night, what so we pref and bright [Music] [Applause] so and the rock is rec [Music] and our flag was still there. Oh, s [Applause] [Music] of the [Music] [Applause] Thank you. You may now be seated. Thank you, McKenna. At this time, I'd like to begin the ceremony by introducing our distinguished guests. Let's please welcome Mr. Brian O'Neal, president of the board of trustees. Mrs. Anarie Randall
Tjo, clerk of the board of trustees. Mrs. Katherine Smith, Assistant Clerk of the Board of Trustees. Miss Jessica Guerrero, board of trustee member. Mr. Michael Msuda, superintendent of the Anaheim Union High School District. Dr. Jiren Frerieded, assistant superintendent, Educational Services. Mr. Brad Jackson, assistant superintendent, human relations. Mr. Carlos Hernandez, director of community schools and family and community engagement. In addition, I'd like to thank our teachers, administrators, and support staff, and our counseling team who have supported the graduating class of 2023. Let's give a round of applause for all of them. Now, at this time, I'd like to welcome our very first senior speaker, Jocelyn Abrahan. Thank you, Mr. Pulley. Today, I look at the class of 2023 in awe. The end of an era has come. Graduation day has finally arrived after four long years
that seem to go by in a flash. Congratulations. I still imagine us as sophomores during COVID having to figure out how to transfer our education to a screen or watch our teachers try to figure out how to turn on their cameras. We have evolved from freshmen rushing into growing up to seniors trying to savor every moment left of high school. And we've definitely had our highs and lows. We've seen each other on our worst days where we've buried our heads into our chests. But we've also seen each other on our best days when our laughter cannot be stopped. The memories from our teenage years cannot easily be erased as these stories will carry on our stories. These moments will come come up in the future when someone might ask us, "So, what were your best
memories from high school?" I know many of us had a have our regrets, things we should have done or said, friendships or relationships we wish had ended differently. But this has helped us mature, made us realize what we have before it's too late. We have longed for this day to come. Whether we're ready or not, our future is still being made and no one knows exactly what will happen. We will all move on to our own paths. Some of us millionaires, actors, singers, some living their dreams, and some still planning what their next adventure is. And whatever your future may be, own it. As we leave Savannah, we will wonder what will happen to the students we once saw every day in the halls, who slowly became our good friends, and the teachers and staff
in whom we once confided in. Maybe they'll just be a happy memory to look back on. Our possibilities are endless and our journey's just beginning. Thank you to our staff, family, and friends that never stopped believing in us. The ones that unknowingly got us to our seats this morning. And I'd like to thank my best friend, my mom, on that part. Sorry. I couldn't have done it without her, and I'm so thankful for her. And I'd like to thank everyone who's graduating today. We have triumphed and fought to earn our diplomas. We made it through a global pandemic where our lives were unexpectedly turned upside down. We surpassed the stress of college exams, college and applications and exams while still going through the everyday struggles of being a teenager. But through it all, we learned
the importance of resilience. We learned that even in the darkest of times, we have the strength to keep going. We learned that we're capable of overcoming even the most difficult challenges, that we can emerge from them stronger and more determined than ever before. After 12 years, the moment has finally arrived. Your once freshman self, who was scared of what was to come, is proud of you. In the words of Tyler the Creator, also known as my favorite artist of all time, but you guys probably already knew that. Find your wings. Don't let them go to waste. You're supposed to fly away. It's time to take flight and chase your dreams. We're ready to make this mark mark on the world. But first, take a moment. Look around at your classmates. Give them a high five.
You're here at graduation. You did it. We all did it. And I wish nothing but happiness and success for all of you. And for one final time, congratulations of class of 2023. Thank you. [Applause] Thank you, Jocelyn. Let's please welcome our second senior speaker, Jennifer Chavaria. Thank you, Mr. Pulley. Good morning, Rebels. Today is Thursday, May 25th, 2023, and this is our graduation. I'm pleased to welcome all the Savannah staff, families, and acclaimed guests here in celebration of the end of our high school careers. We've received immense support from our Savannah community, and now we all stand here on our own two feet. After an intricate four-year journey, we completed the capstone with perseverance in order to make it to this milestone. We lived through historical events like a pandemic which we thought would just
be an extended spring break. It unfortunately led to our freshman year being cut short. Then we had our entire sophomore year online. I'm sure we all remember the breakout rooms and the frustration we felt when we randomly got kicked out of the video conference. These unforeseen circumstances affected us all differently. For me personally, I had a positive impact. I went from being the shy and awkward girl that you forgot was in your class to the girl from being a Rebel TV. While all our struggles were distinct, they were all related. And I think that is what connected all of us. Once we came back in person for junior year, I noticed that we all had hope for an amazing school year by the way everyone interacted with one another. I made new friends and rekindled
friendships from the past. We all wanted to be safe, but that didn't stop us from being close to one another. I'm sure we can all agree when I say that it felt good to be back on campus and listen to your teacher speak without a delay. Through these difficult times, I live by an expression. The expression, "Everything happens for a reason. You may not understand or know what that reason is at that moment, but one day you will. It's had a significant role in my life, so I would like to pass it on now that we're parting ways. We've made it to the end of this road so that we begin our own path. Regardless of the path each of you choose, I hope you always strive and prosper. Let's leave this stadium with the
intent of making the world a better a better place. Any effort you put in is worth it. It can be as little as keeping it clean like a washing machine, as Mr. Pulley would say or congratulate a fellow classmate. I'll start. Congratulations, class of 2023. Thank you. [Applause] Thank you, Jennifer. Please welcome our third senior speaker, Jenna Seday. [Applause] Thank you, Mr. Pulley. Welcome, Savannah families, friends, and most importantly, the Savannah graduates of the class of 2023. The day has finally arrived when we get to say that we have officially reached the milestone that we have long worked hard towards. Just for this moment, I would like you all to momentarily look around you. Take in this special moment. Feel and embrace a sense of pride and togetherness with the graduates around you and notice
how you are sitting amongst many of your peers who just like you wear their caps and gowns, celebrating the privilege of being here and celebrating the unique work that it took to get here. While you are all sharing a very similar special moment together, I want you to understand that the very seat that you sit on has been earned through your motivation, dedication, and commitment to embracing the greatest version of yourself, and that comes from your individual journey alone. Every individual's experience at Savannah may look different, but I know I would be making an accurate guess if I say that most of you have endured long restless nights, studying for a test or finishing homework, staying late after school to attend sports or band practices, staying after school for office hours or tutoring, hosting club
meetings or events, and the list only goes on. I'm sure some days may have been harder than others for you. But even if you don't realize it, you've maintained a persistent mentality, coming back each and every single day, ready to continue and thrive. And I hope you are realizing now at this moment that this spirit and drive has led to your success which is being celebrated today. While we are here to celebrate our individual journey to success through Savannah High School, I want to leave you all on the note that your individual and unique journey at Savannah is what completes the Savannah community. Whether it has been through your involvement in school through athletics, leadership roles, volunteer work, career pathways, and other opportunities, or doing something as simple as coming to school every day ready
to give your best effort and attention. In doing that, you have become a great friend, role model, and partner to those around you. You have given what it takes to shape and maintain a bond within our Savannah community that is fundamentally welcoming, accepting, and success driven. With that being said, I hope that after we leave here today, you will give yourself the promise that you will never change. That you will continue to give with all of your heart and soul to the people and places you encounter in life and leave your mark in this world in the same way you have left your mark at Savannah. Go out into this world and be someone's friend. Be the voice of truth and righteousness. Be an advocate for yourself and others and aim to always explore and
cultivate the greatest version of yourself. And remember, for what is the end of our journey together is only the beginning of a much more exciting and purposeful journey ahead for us all. The beautiful the beautiful part of it all is that we get to begin this journey together and see where it leads us from here. And last but not least, I want to thank my Palestinian immigrant parents, Bilal and Salaf, for making the sacrifices that have provided me the privileges and opportunities that I have and my siblings Adil Dimma and Abdullah for showing me the love and support that has led to my success today. With that being said, congratulations once again to the Savannah class of 2023. I wish you all the very best in your future endeavors. Thank you. Thank you, Jenna. Joselyn,
Jennifer, and Jenna all spoke so eloquently about their educational journey while at Savannah High School, and we are so excited for our Rebels as they embark on their next journey. I want to share with everyone that Savannah High School is truly an amazing place and our speaker spoke about it. It's a one-of-a-kind school because of our committed and caring teachers and staff members. At this time, again, I would like to recognize and acknowledge the Savannah faculty and staff for their dedication in preparing our students for the last four years. Let's give them one more round of applause. While the class of 2023 is a special class to me, I have seen them grow and flourish since our early days many years ago at Brookhurst Junior High. You all had an incredible ride to get to
this point and I could not be more proud of you. This year has been remarkable and I know you enjoyed it to the fullest. You've had to navigate through many challenges of high school that not many have faced. Over the course of this year, I was able to witness your kindness and compassion for one another, for your families, and for our school community. The class of 2023 is in a class of its own. And I'd like to recognize several student accomplishments from this amazing class. It is now time to recognize some of the academic awards our seniors have accomplished. So seniors, as I announce the academic award, which is symbolized by your sash or your cord or your pin, please stand to be recognized with applause. After all awards have been recognized, then be seated.
First off, career technical education CT pathway completion, please stand. dual enrollment, seal of biiteracy and seal of triliteracy, earners of Google certificates, earners for state seal of civic engagement, recipients of golden state seal recipients, students who have completed A through G requirements, and our students who have received academic honors, students who earned a 3.5 or above grade point average. Let's give them a round of applause for their accomplishments. Congratulations, Rebels. You can be seated. I love to hear the sound of the jingling. Again, the class of 2023, you are ready. You're ready for life. You're ready for college. and you're ready for your next chapter and your next career adventure. That is very evident in your capstone interviews you all gave just a few weeks ago. Many of you shared your educational journey and how
education is working for you. We are proud of you as you continue your journey. Some of you are entering the workforce. Others will be attending community colleges and others are attending universities. No matter where you are headed, you all have gained and developed so many skills which we call the five C's. And with them, you will take on the world. Students, as you reflect on your four years at Savannah High School, one thing is clear. During your years of high school, you have been challenged. Some of you have even struggled at times. But with those struggles came the opportunity to learn from one another, from your peers, from your teachers, from those that care about you most. What you learned was how to persevere, how to be persistent, and ultimately how to succeed. Again, I
want to remind you all that you are ready for college, career, in life, and we know you will go on to do great things in our community, our nation, and our world. One more congratulations for the class of 2023. Class of 2023, we have arrived at the moment you've all been waiting for. I am pleased to introduce our dignitaries who will be presenting diplomas to our graduates. President Board of Trustees, Mr. Brian O'Neal, Clerk of Board of Trustees, Miss Anna Toro Tjo, Assistant Clerk of Board of Trustees, Miss Katherine Smith, and Board of Trustee member, Miss Jessica Guerrero. Mr. Hoganamp and Miss Salavar will now read the names of the class of 2023 graduating seniors. Please respect each of our graduates and hold our applause until all the names have been read. At this time,
