welcome to Magnolia High School located in the heart of Anaheim California [Music] established in 1958 Magnolia High School has been serving the community for over 60 years providing a diverse and inclusive learning environment for students from all backgrounds with the strong emphasis on academic Excellence Athletics and the Arts Magnolia High School offers a well-rounded education that prepares students for success in college and Beyond today we're going to be taking a closer look at our Viber and dynamic school and what it has to offer for our amazing students I'm going to hand it off to Dr documents where she's going to go more in depth about the most recent yet most impactful programs we have here at our school called The Magnolia agriscience Community Center the Magnolia agriscience Community Center is a two and a half
acre Urban Farm built on the Magnolia High School campus this is a place where students and their families can be educated about Urban Agriculture and environmental sustainability set Magnolia are able to use set for their civic engagement they've looked at soil chemistry and figured out how can we reduce our food waste and use it as a form of compost as a community school we focus on Civic and beauty and allowing students to discuss topics they actually care about this makes us feel genuinely happy and connected to one another because we have the opportunity to make a difference and improve our community and now we're going to check out cyber security where our channels are learning the language of the 21st century being technology and coding our program prepares students for life outside of high school
we prep them for industry recognized certifications they take college courses through our program so that they're ready to enter College the cyber security program has provided me with fundamental life skills that I'll be able to use both in and out of the classroom with our new it certifications we've been handed the opportunity to join the workforce straight out of high school and overall has provided us the opportunity to be more competitive applicants in our fields one of the prestigious Pathways we have here at Magnolia High School is a Medical Careers pathway and it inspires future doctors to learn the skills needed to be in the medical field but now I'm going to hand it off to Ms Foster which is going to go more in depth about the Medical Careers pathway in this patient care
pathway we do have three courses that students are able to take we start off with Medical Careers one and in that class most students learn the foundations of health care they're introduced to a variety of topics from vital signs to First Aid which is what they're working on now their senior year is the Capstone class of medical assisting where students actually go out and work in a medical facility where they use their skills injections blood draw and hopefully pass a national certification and get a job before they even graduate a lot of times that does happen for those students who have a huge passion for construction and want to pursue that in their future endeavors we offer our beta class I'm gonna head it off to Mr Heil where he's going to give you more
information about what they do in bitter so we learn everything about construction from building homes from the ground up and in doing so we build projects like the one behind me we build Cabinetry we build sheds and we also do smaller projects our first year students do a project like this toolbox here we do a wide range of woodworking this is the still a wood shop but our Focus here is on putting our students in a possible pathway in the construction career as a graduating senior one thing that we all need to do is start our adulthood early and therefore one class that helps with this is English project management now I'm going to hand it off to Mr Bowie to go more in depth about this course in the beginning of the year students
enroll in this online Google course project management and in that course they're learning essential skills regarding project manager right such as collaborative problem solving and just risk management the course is serves as a kind of pathway thing project management after they graduate I teach multimedia one and multimedia 2 here at Magnolia High School we do the daily broadcast each day especially try to include a lot of student voice whether it's in front of the camera or students working Hands-On we are teaching to an activity and we're not teaching to the test and I hope you enjoy our studio one of the opportunities we have in Magnolia are a variety of sports our sports program embodies the five C's communication collaboration critical thinking creativity and character if all the 5Cs are executed with hard work and

goes on yet in spite of all of that we managed to overcome everything and be present here today so I think we deserve to give ourselves a quick Round of Applause no where'd all the time go it's been a while since we got ourselves into the hallways of Magnolia High School plenty of homework assignments later and we're still here with plenty of more homework assignments to go except we're on a more exciting and scary route now as the great Abraham Lincoln put it if I had six hours to chop down a tree I would spend my first four sharpening my ax and ladies and gentlemen it is safe to say that we have taken the time to sharpen our axes for the past 13 years we've been going through the awkward phases of showing up
to elementary school then Junior High and now High School all that's left is for us to go drop down that tree to go out into the world and take on things that'll get us further than we already are to rep to represent the colors black and gold with passion and take pride in how far we've come ladies and gentlemen in times of Deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act and when I look into this crowd I see the truth in myself and and you guys I see the truth in all you guys I see endless potential held in each and every single one of you the sky's the limit and we didn't come this far just to come this far I believe that all of us will go on and accomplish things God will
get us further than we already are so to every person listening to me speak up here today I say these words to you everything you have ever desired is on the other side of fear anxiety and discipline we have proved to ourselves that we are Limitless and that we can reach New Heights so I ask you to not be doubtful of yourselves do not be anxious about what you can achieve and do not be fearful of what the future holds for all I know is that we are a group of extraordinary people who fulfill ourselves with what is coming to us ladies and gentlemen I would like to take some time to take my wonderful parents my brothers my sisters and my cousins and a long list of people who I owe thank yous to

product of Magnolia High School right now I'd like to take this moment to reflect on how far we've all come since entering High School four years ago High School broaden our Horizons it gave us beautiful memories and friendships that we will cherish for the rest of our lives for me the coaches at Magnolia High School for cross-country soccer and track and field as well as the teachers and staff have always believed in me they've mentored me through life challenges and impacted me in a way that I am forever grateful so I would not be the person I am today without them to coach Ireland coach Alyssa coach Willie coach Penn Mr ache and Mr groover and to the rest of my teachers thank you for everything one valuable lesson my high school experience taught me
is to make character your identity I repeat I said character not Sports not academics or extracurriculars ultimately what matters most is what's in the inside how much heart you have and that you are willing to give life everything you have even through failure every day we are defined not by adversity but how we choose to rise up in the face of difficulty I tell myself just try one more time in October I embarked on the Journey of running to Riverside a route that is 40 miles long I remember being at Mile 35 close to finishing and wondering why I even decided to start running for eight hours in the first place however I kept telling myself you just keep going keep going one more mile just take one more step I share this story in
hopes that this experience will inspire you to keep going and to keep trying Life After High School will bring new challenges with more responsibilities for all of us in the mo in moments where we are overwhelmed with navigating life just remember that the act of simply trying is powerful you have to decide that you will not quit you will not give up auhsd has provided that learning environment for me to understand that persevering inside and outside of the classroom transfers over into every other aspect of life lastly I'd like to reflect on the Legacy we have built as a class of 2023. ten years ago 10 years from now people will remember how hard we fought to become the best versions of ourselves at our high school Union 20 years from now people will remember
that we kept going after our dreams even when times got tough people will remember that this was the year the girls soccer team brought home Magnolia's very first CIF title as the goalkeeper I have to shout out my seniors today here today my Defender bestie Desiree Ponce sweeper Kenya Valle and forward Brianna Sanchez so as we are about to say our goodbyes recognize that every day we have a chance to cement our Legacy we might be embarking on our own individual Journeys but we will always carry that pride of being a sentinel thank you thank you sunma Johnson I would now like to introduce our principal Mr Aaron Chao good afternoon families friends faculty dignitaries and of course our graduating class of 2023. we are grateful for your help in celebrating our students achievements today

change makers Magnolia High School is a great place not only because of our amazing students but because of its many dedicated staff members and teachers therefore I would like to acknowledge a very special teacher this afternoon Magnolia has been very blessed to have the legendary Michelle Waxman dedicate her entire teaching career to supporting our Sentinels not only has Miss Waxman taught every level of high school English at Magnolia but she has filled the same classroom room 104 with love and light for 33 years in addition to her years as an English teacher Miss Waxman spent six years serving as mcnullas ASB director needless to say Miss Waxman has been the most dedicated compassionate and Wally spirited Sentinel throughout her entire career span at Magnolia as a student really recently say in our school's newspaper Miss
Waxman is the kind of teacher who not only teaches literature but how we can enjoy ourselves and those around us miss Waxman may you spend the rest of your days enjoying yourself the way we enjoy you all these years we will certainly miss you congratulations on your well-deserved retirement back I would not like to take a moment to address our graduates the Tibetans have a saying wherever you have friends that is your country wherever you receive love that's your home graduates I want you to remember the pockets of Magnolia where you receive love maybe it was the teacher who let you eat lunch in their room on a raining day or perhaps the coach who kept you in the bench because you were too hurt to keep playing your counselor who helped you select courses
gave you a space to take a break or to cry through the smiles of the cafeteria staff as they kept you fed every morning and afternoon and the campus safety crew who taught to you as they walk you to class whatever that love may have struck you I hope all of that has left Magnolia a place you can always call home a place where people understand you where patients love and compassion prevail unfortunately the harsh reality is that compassion and patience do not always Prevail in fact today we Face a world in need of compassion kindness and understanding more than ever as I reflect on this the words of South African activists Bishop Desmond Tutu come to mind do your little bit of good where you are it's those little bits of good put together
that overwhelm the world graduates you have all brought those little bits of goods to Magnolia with you each day planting them like seeds among the people you have to encounter here now it is your turn to make sure that good grows through rain and shine into a Garden of even better there are still plenty of patches in the world that needs compassion after all compassion is much more than just a feeling it's a force for change by doing your acts of compassion kindness and empathy for others no matter how big or small you can make a positive impact in your own life and the lives of those around you as you embark on this new journey I urge you this do not forget to find happiness within yourselves even if life's obstacle make you believe
you don't deserve it being able to discover true happiness is a human right it does not rely on external factors such as wealth success or fame no true happiness comes from within it is the joy that comes from being a positive difference in the world and from the relationships that you build so graduates as you forge a new and exciting path for yourselves remember to cultivate compassion and seek happiness within use your talents your knowledge and your passion to make the world a better place for all in closing perhaps the Dalai malama puts it best if you want others to be happy practice compassion if you want to be happy practice compassion congratulations class of 2023 and may compassion and kindness be your guides as you look to the Future and now class of 2023
