worked very hard to make sure that we made it to this moment today our first speaker today is chinonye omerondi chinonye will be attending columbia university in the fall majoring in creative writing and psychology upon completion of her degree she would like to attend medical school and pursue a degree in psychiatry and become an author [Applause] if we were to stop time right now in this very moment who would you be for some that's an easy question in time frozen smiles unmoving and mouths mid-sentence some of us are wonderful artists aspiring lawyers and doctors passionate advocates of social justice full-time athletes and part-time workers at a boba spa or theme park but some of us most of us don't have an answer quite yet rather in this still and surreal moment we are nothing more
than what time has made of us graduating seniors in silly blue robes ready to turn our tassels eager to face the unknown but the clock didn't always run this fast throughout our years here there are moments where time seemed to slow so we could stop and laugh a while like when we showed up here in freshman year trying to find our friends at a school with no quad and terrible wifi or that weird period of time where those tiny little babies popped up in like every classroom or that lab in chemistry where we froze our hands off to make ice cream at eight in the morning or lunch when we crowd up on the phone to record tick tocks during the renegade and when time stopped on march 13th 2020 we celebrated and mourned the
moments we lose to computer screens and social distancing with masks hiding the fear and our faces and covet cases rising like dark swift waters we thought the worlds was over the class of 22 we are still here despite the despite the time that was stolen loved ones lost in tears we could never get back the clock continues its ticking and if we stopped time right now in this very moment we would be more than athletes and artists we would be one thing strong thank you chinonye at this time i would like to introduce our very own cypress high school choir who will be performing the defining moment by pink zebra [Music] everybody hey it's time to wake up are you ready things are gonna shake up can you feel it feeling on the inside nothing's
gonna stop us nothing's gonna stop us now we can always reach higher find a way to to light a fire turn it up and never let it down you know nothing's gonna stop us gotta stop us [Music] [Applause] [Music] history will unfold before this could be the defining moment [Music] we've never been this close before [Music] his story will this could be the dividing moment [Music] is [Music] da [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] thank you choir our next speaker today is diana valdivia diana will be attending syracuse university in the fall majoring in photography communications upon completion of her degree she would like to be a sports photographer [Applause] wow guys this is it the day that we've been working towards our entire life the day that we always thought was lifetimes away today we graduate
we finally get to leave the small pond of cypress high for the bigger sea of the real world the past four years have been a blur of moments and memories moments that in four five years will seem like lifetimes away the inside jokes that are so vivid now the laughs and moments that we take for granted will be blurred unrecognizable the past four years definitely haven't been what anyone expected their high school experience to be walking in we were promised ragers every weekend the cafeteria separated by jocks and geeks and the whole school randomly breaking out into song and dance that somehow everyone already knew while it definitely wasn't a high school musical looking today at the people that have spent the past four years with i am proud proud of the way we've persevered
proud of the way our classes refused to give in and chose to live every moment to the fullest from senior bonfires to basketball games centurion games to a class snapchat story formal from senior sunrise we've really done it all and chose to seize every moment and i want to take a moment to say thank you thank you to everyone who has pushed us to do our best who taught us to live life and put school aside every once in a while to truly enjoy the moments we only get once thank you to our parents who held our hands as we checked through high school who guided us as we climbed but always knew when to let go and let us conquer the unimaginable thank you to our teachers who played such huge roles in our
life beyond education but the biggest thank you goes to the people that i've spent the past four years with thank you for giving me so many moments to cherish memories to tell my future family and lessons to carry with me even though our high school experience is now coming to an end the moments i've shared with you all will live with me forever now let's take the last day we have together and cherish it cherish the voices and smiles of our classmates the memories with our best friends let's take the last day we have together and live every last moment to its fullest live today in the moment because tomorrow today in the past four years will all just be memories we cherish wherever life takes us thank you diana i would now like to
introduce our principal dr kevin hodgson [Applause] good evening families friends faculty dignitaries and most importantly our graduating class of 2022 i am so honored and humbled to be standing in front of you tonight a night of celebration a night of reflection a night to look ahead but also a night to be in the moment as graduation speeches go many focus on the past so many focused on the future but not nearly as many focus on the present or being in that moment i've asked you to do that right now really take in your surroundings look among your classmates your teachers your counselor sitting near you your families and friends in the audience these are the people that helped you get here tonight who are you grateful right now right here take a couple seconds to
reflect on those who have helped you get to this moment although it's tough to not think about your past or wonder what the future holds there are many reasons to be in the moment number one the future is not in your control the moment you experience right now is what you can control you can't control what will happen in a year's time let alone what will happen in the next five minutes by living in the present you stop guessing what might or might not happen and instead you stay focused on what is happening in the here and now number two you stop waiting so many of us are waiting for something better to come along we dream about the future or when things will get better when we'll have a better job a better boyfriend
a better girlfriend when will transfer to that dream college stop waiting don't wait for everything to be perfect before you decide to enjoy your life three and this is the last one you will become so much more productive think about a time where you are in the zone you might not have realized it at the time but being in the zone can only occur when you've turned off all distractions and you're fully engaged in the task at hand allowing yourself to be fully present in what you're doing mean things like work or school become a lot easier and you become much more productive class of 2022 i thank you with all of my heart and soul you will be missed but not forgotten cyprus high will always be a home for you i challenge you
to go out into the world and be resilient be tough be flexible be adaptable continue to learn but most importantly be yourself and be in the moment thank you and congratulations thank you dr hodgson class of 2022 we have arrived at the moment you have all been waiting for i am pleased to introduce our dignitaries who will be presenting diplomas to our graduates president of the board of trustees mr al-jabbar member of the board of trustees miss anne-marie randall trejo and member of the board of trustees mrs anna piercy miss april monera and mr kevin dole will now read the names of the class of 2022 graduating seniors please respect each of our graduates and hold your applause until all names have been read just in case okay diana valdivia joseph hanafan [Applause] omirandi sheldon
