001us and we will continue to be working with you so now i'll hand it over to juliana for the next piece sorry hi everyone my name is juliana hernandez and i serve as assistant director for strategic initiatives and partnerships and i want to talk to you today about some of our pipeline data so looking at our students that go through a uhsd to our community colleges into csuf and again we have some good news in the spirit of keeping it brief i'll give you some nuggets and snippets so we'll look at cypress college first right so two of the students that we were able to identify um to date we've had 518 students that have gone through our pipeline since 2018 since the fall 2018 cohort 46.5 of them have been underrepresented right which is
002the students that we serve um we can go a little bit into the breakdown but as you know we're hispanic-serving institutions so 45.75 of those identified hispanic latino 26.45 were first-generation students that's the community we survived i was i myself as a first generation student and proud titan alum um we're everywhere and i think somewhere in the room as well of those students were able to capture some financial aid data and over 20 of them were pal eligible which is again representative of our student populations and then oh i swapped the first generation students 39.7 or first generation students i get nervous in front of a crowd it's been a while it's a pandemic it's too many faces uh um yeah you know you get there uh but of these students to date 47 of
003them have received or been awarded their degree which is exciting for us and exciting so congratulations to you all as well and of those students that are still enrolled with us and is still in their academic program over 90 percent are in good academic standing and we're able to pull some average gpas for you and the average gpa is over 3.0 so congratulations to yourselves as well this picture and you'll see them sprinkled throughout is a sneak peek of one of the events that we have hosted for our students and this is actually from this weekend dr savala mentioned we held our experience csuf we held a special reception for our pledge students as well and so these are snippets of them at the reception i couldn't fit them anywhere else now looking at our
004fullerton college pipeline two dates since fall 2018 we were able to identify 576 students that have gone through this pipeline 71 percent of them identified as underrepresented our number of hispanic latino students were a little higher close to 70 percent about almost eight percent were asian students their pel eligibility is about 27 percent of them were eligible and over 50 percent of those students were first-generation students again similar to their degree status i'm close to 50 48 but close to 50 percent of students have been approved to receive the degree or have received their degree to date and of those still with us 92 percent of them are in good academic standing and their average gpa is also above 3.0 with the 3.21 so again we're excited we love to see our transfer students i
005have some sneak peek data for you all as well as we think about our successes and so some of the successes that we've seen overall right for our pipeline students we've come to who have transferred into cal state fullerton but are also auhsd directly you all continue to be a top feeder school districts community colleges for us and we're excited we love having you come to our campus adriana mentioned about the the pipeline retention rates but also the overall retention rates they continue to be comparable or higher than compared to other community colleges and other school districts which is also great i shared with you about our experience csuf reception we had over about 100 students that attended our reception most of them were actually some of our transfer students coming from fullerton college in
006cyprus which is exciting to see so we know that they're excited they're eager to come join the titan family and then we also wanted to talk about some of the initiatives in progress some of the things that we're working on on our campus and dr savala mentioned a few of them you know we have expanded our career center programming to help our students with career preparedness through our i am first program we have a freshman cohort and a transfer cohort and our goal is to provide these services to our pledged students so they come and take advantage of these opportunities early on in their time with us another one we like to highlight is our tiny shadow or titan takeover the job shadow program where we have students participate and shadow job industry folks to
007learn more about their careers and we want to provide more opportunities and make these more visible to our pledge students to take advantage of dr sawad also talked about our revamp transfer services and so we actually will be having some of our transfer staff calling our students encouraging them to submit their offer in the next couple of days so community colleges you'll be hearing from our transfer staff what your students will be hearing from us and we talked a little bit more about the graduation initiative but part of my role is to keep looking at the data working with mariana our partner and the center for educational partnerships is we have identified some great information my job is to identify more see what we're doing measure the magnitude or the impact of our programs because
008we know it's there we we've heard the stories and so that's what we want to continue doing and so sneak peek i'll give you preliminary data as i look at the enrollment data for this upcoming fall i have some preliminary numbers for you as of yesterday i pulled the updated ones this morning but didn't make it here but to date well yesterday we've had 785 auhsd students in admit status so they've been admitted we're waiting for them to commit so far 96 students so you've had more than 700 some students who are admitted 96 students have accepted their offer we need those 785 to click yes by may 1st take away may 1st for cyprus college we have 474 students in admit status we've extended the offer 165 of them have accepted that offer we
009need 474 more to come and say yes fullerton college we have 736 students in admit status as of yesterday 363 of them have accepted their offer they're excited and eager we got 700 more to go uh and then my last tidbit and takeaway is the students have until may 1st to accept their offer to come be a titan that's all i got for you adriana just i want to give kudos to uh mariana she helped us put the powerpoint together and she's also working on our annual performance reports along with joshua and the team do today so thank you so much and have a wonderful day thank you adriana juliana appreciate it and last but certainly not least our data from uc irvine so we'll bring up uh santana rhys our good friend deputy director
010center for educational partnership and amanda baluena who's also amazing data guru that always is part of our collaborative conversation so come on up so thank you very very much we'll do a joint presentation our presentation is going to be very short but powerful so first of all let me set the context before before we actually show the first data just a quick update for fall of we received 119 000 applications for freshmen students and we received 22 000 applications for transfer students a total of 142 000 applications for uci for fall of 2022 uh which is our record again we've been breaking our own record every year and so and that's important because as i've always and i'm preaching to the choir selectivity is here to stay based on on the reality of the numbers
011of seats and the enrollment target is usually about five to six thousand students so that means over a hundred thousand students well we admit a little bit more and and every year is that trying to land just right to make sure that the right number of sirs our students pick us and we have enough to make sure we given the the resources but what i'm about to show you we actually just we have three slides that indicate and i think you're gonna the to recognize the excellent job you all are doing so slide number one this gives a snapshot from the inaugural class in 2018 how well they're doing at uci and this is phenomenal given that you know we've tracked them the average gpa is 3.41 that is amazing and but that is a
012combination of a lot of things obviously you're doing an excellent actually you should applaud yourselves because that's we do a lot of applauding for you guys when we talk to our our colleagues at uci but as you can see it's been consistent so that indicates that's a good sign because as we become more selective we have leverage from first from students from anaheim union high school district because we could demonstrate this data that these students that are choosing us are doing well where very well above the campus average so that says a lot to the curriculum the innovation that's happening at this district that's making your students competitive at a very selective campus that is continue to be very selective so congratulations once again now the other we took a snapshot to go further of
013the fall of 2020 entering class and that should be the next slide and this is how we actually broke it down and this was even more amazing and we shared this with the superintendent matsuda that year 109 total and totally total enrolled and after their first year 86 percent had above a 3.0 gpa and if you know you all are aware we've all been through it the majority of you that went to college the first year is always the toughest year especially for first-generation or students income students that's the challenging year that's the one where you're no longer the big fish in the little pond right now you are with the sharks and 86 percent had above a 3.0 59 had above a 3.5 30 had above a 3.8 and 7.5 percent had above a
0144.0 so that deserves another applause excellent job so we're partners we share data throughout the year so i don't want to you're going to get a lot of our data throughout whether it be the summits the inter implementation team meetings so we wanted to keep it just this is like the data we usually don't talk about retention and that's where we are acknowledging and we acknowledge we're also it's not about access anymore it's about accountability to make sure they graduate and obviously these cohorts are in a very good position to continue on to graduate school so now i'll hand it over to my colleague and talk about our transfers i'm actually going to hop back to this slide really quick just to point out one thing at the bottom so if you notice for the
015class of 21 i know we highlighted mostly the class of 20 20 for freshmen but for the class of 21 do you see in that third column where it says freshmen coming in directly from auhsd their range of units they're bringing in is between zero which is kind of what you would expect closer to that lower range but we had students coming in as freshmen that already had 80 units so that is absolutely amazing and you'll see that same trend when i switch over to transfer students right now okay so i'm really excited to share this data with you dr astuccio previewed this a little bit but i want to give you a little bit more information and a little bit of context around it so we're looking at students that came in during the
0162021 academic year these are students that graduated from auhsd in 2018 so our first pledge class coming through as transfers there were 52 students 31 from cypress 21 from fullerton college and that's kind of the same trend we see as we look at later classes coming in the average number of transfer units that students had was a hundred and eight who can tell me how many are required sixty students only need sixty and they're coming in with up to a hundred and sixty three the range was actually 90 to 163 average 108. that student that came in with 163 units left auhsd passing 13 ap classes also already with some community college units and then went on to cypress college from cypress high in case you're interested went on to cyphers college and then transferred
017into uci so we noted earlier that the retention rate was 98 which is huge way way higher than we would typically see with a sample of 52 students this means we only lost one okay so that's really great the other thing that was really thinking the other thing that was really interesting is that as i'm going through and checking in on all of these students this particular student had a note that they were in hd and i didn't know what this meant so i had to call the registrar find this out this means that they were honorably discharged so this student was in great standing had a high gpa didn't have any financial holds which is what we would typically see when we're losing a student so there was some sort of life circumstance that
018happened around this student it was not preparation or commitment so i thought that was really exciting and i wanted to share that beyond with that whole this whole class actually as i'm looking into them all of them are green great gpa standing great academic progress standing no holds i never see that when i'm looking into a class of students so that's very very exciting as well and then as was already shared 14 of those of these students have already graduated there's many more that could have graduated but i think are hanging around because they moved through really quick and want some extra time in college which i agree with um and four of those students have already applied to grad school and that's only looking at uci so we know students are applying other places
019as well so it's really exciting to see how great these students are doing at uci and and again it's thanks to everything you guys are preparing them with as they come through so great work the last comment i want to mention is that every student that that is eligible based on financial lead which is a majority so every pledge student in high school and now a transfer student they get a scholarship a pledge scholarship on behalf of the center for educational partnerships something to help them with their books at a minimum so that's another little in addition to the handoff but at this time i do want to personally thank dr ashley sherry and her team because they're really the ones that keep us in check and our eyes and ears in the partnership making
020sure that this work continues so did i make my time rollo you owe me a beer thank you very much that's awesome we know you've been sitting in a while so i apologize ahead of time we're going to give you a short break we're going to give you a short break so take a few minutes to get some more something to eat restroom break and we'll see you back here in about seven minutes seven minutes [Music]
