to highlight Magnolia for they put on an e Sports homecoming partnering with YMCA and UCI to conduct the event at Lera they are continuing the Hope project and are aiming to raise $6,000 in addition they gave thank you notes to mail mans because of the election and their hard work at catella the ASB has parted with Chipotle to host a fundraiser and have a virtual friends giving with their campus and that is their way to Resort any sort of normaly that we can have during these times and then also among at catella among other schools in district we are beginning to hold processing circles with schools and with students as we learned and were trained to do that by OC human relations and at Gilbert they are modifying their Civics engagement program to coincide with
the RSVP program and the last school I would like to highlight is Anaheim and how Bros organization has ARR arranged tutoring hours and workshops to help younger students thank you thank you Elizabeth I just have a clarifying question um it kind of went out what did you say the circles were were they were they restorative or what was the the name of the circles you said they're doing processing circles over um varing topics some of them are restorative justice others I know Western just had a recent Circle and it was a post-election debrief Circle for students to just talk and have a safe space to express their opinions wow thank you so much and are we um are you encouraging are we still encouraging our students to collect um all of those hours that they're
spending uh doing these service projects yes we are encouraging them to do so if they can so we can at least commend them and show that we appreciate them for doing this okay thank you so much for your um your um presentation and again uh highlighting yamon that's uh um devastating over there so thank you so much we appreciate you and next the report of the associations and I will start with um MMA is anyone here representing MMA uh csca hi there hello hi Sharon number one congratulations Nancy on your appointment maybe we'll get to meet one of these days in person um I I don't have a whole lot to report out other than um we are going to be having um eboard Executive Board elections in December December 14th to be exact which
will be um for the CSA e board for starting January 1st um we have two people running for president we have two people running for second vice president um first vice president is going unopposed so it would will be Jennifer hippolito um she is a mediate Tech at Oxford and um then the let me see if I can remember these the treasur will be Wanita judge she is in accounting and the um Treasurer or no excuse me secretary will be Jamie Kirchner who is an instructional assistant at magnia and so and the other two will have to vote on I will no longer be doing it because come January 2022 I will be retiring so um it's time for some young blood and and other ones to take the Reigns and hopefully I'll be there
for a year so I'll be able to help them with anything they might need should they have any questions or what have you but um my time's almost up here so that's it we appreciate all the time that you've spent um advocating for the classified employee so thank you Sharon thank you for your report all righty um apga anyone representing apga yes thank you thanks for recognizing apga uh like to take the time to let you know that I created this PowerPoint just for this meeting um I've been in several meetings this week and here's the here's the pointing and there's the power um I just wanted to talk a little bit about the six season our districts um you know we have character critical thinking collaboration creativity communication and let's not forget about counselors
um I downloaded this report from uh web reporting today and I and I noticed we have some schools that have been doing some outstanding communication with their students uh Ball Junior High has communicated with their students almost over 10,000 times in the area of academics uh so far this year Magnolia over 21,000 times Cypress is the grand winner with over 59,000 entries in Aries where they've been contacting students um so kudos to those programs and those counil have been working very hard I was at a meeting yesterday uh in regards to the master schedule and we looked at uh the differences between the amount of schedule changes that have happened from last year to this year and I think uh we did a very good job of recognizing brookers and all their hard work but
I think we'd be remiss if we didn't point out the fact that Lexington orange VI and Sycamore did a fantastic job all about 5% of their students needed a schedule change which was quite a difference from previous years for example Anaheim and catella counselors during this time compared to last year 5,000 less schedule changes so that tells me that the district's implementing some great systems in place so kudos to Manuel um Amanda and jiren for helping and Carlos for helping help us with that process um and importantly I think that extra that more efficiency for counselors during this pandemic we're we're able to reach out to our students I see a lot of um web pages and Communications going to our students on a weekly basis from a variety of different sources and our counselors
are doing uh tremendous job and I'm I'm very very privileged and proud to represent them so good job counselors thank you thank you Brian and they're lucky to have you as their leader as well thank you for your report appreciate it alrighty is anyone here from asme okay uh ASA I think I saw Grant here thank you anarie um very quickly I would also on behalf of the teachers want to uh congratulate Nancy Yen for her appointment to the CBO position and before my report I also want to give a a huge shout out to Aaron Baker and the payroll department who not only have processed hundreds of temporary employees and gotten them all paid in the last couple of months but also made sure that all of the uh ASA members would have their
uh retro pay and new salaries on their paycheck by before the holidays so um that was a massive undertaking and we greatly appreciate that um so um for my report um I will start off just to uh greet everyone our trustees cabinet as well as all of the teachers and community members viewing Us online today I'd first like to acknowledge the teachers speech and language Pathologists and nurses who have been going above and beyond since August to innovatively support our students and amilies they are teaching counseling and supporting students who are dealing with academic emotional uh and social needs we are all aware of how hard our community has been hit by this pandemic after spending hours every day adapting curriculum lessons uh and special education services to be de delivered virtually we routinely stay
online with students dealing with the effects of the pandemic including illness job losses food insecurity and family Discord when everything we do for our students is finally complete we find ways to support our colleagues and then our own families the burden is heavy but you will not find a more caring or dedicated group of people committed to their students and Community from the beginning of this crisis ASA members have also been there to give the district input about what was necessary to help address the needs of our students thousands and thousands of hours have been spent by hundreds of our members working in the teacher input group opening school's task force special education group and discipline work group among others one result of this collaboration was the policy of teachers having their choice to deliver
our distance learning program by working from home or from a work site the parties agreed that it was appropriate for our teachers to make this decision based on the risk to themselves and their families given the significant higher covid rates in our school communities we also collaborated on a distance learning model that balanced screen time and workload with the mental health needs of our students and teachers the model has been re-evaluated and will continue to be reviewed for possible improvements as long as it needs to be implemented we are proud of our members and their advocacy for students and each other through this process and applaud the district's proactive actions and willingness to keep multiple lines of communication open finally we've had a constant line of contact open to the district to negotiate memorandums of
understanding dealing with avenues for students to start meeting on campus with teachers and service providers under negotiated safety protocols we are proud of how we have dealt collaboratively with so many issues and look forward to continuing these processes with you however there is a deep and serious concern today that remains unresolved as part of our collaboration discussions have been ongoing about reopening of schools to our entire student body under a hybrid model for months during these discussions it was made clear that we would focus on the health information related to numbers from our community and make our decisions based on how the pandemic is specifically affecting us in September when our County pandemic numbers declined we were quick to distinguish ourselves as an area that was still seeing high levels of virus transmission and case
numbers that would not allow us to open unlike many other districts in the county we praise the District administration and the board for taking this reasonable and responsible approach to protect our students employees and community as a number the number of cases and rate of spread decreased we began planning for a possible return as the numbers continued to decrease Even in our hardest hit zip codes we became optimistic about a PO possible return last month the board approved a plan that returned employees and students in stages to ensure all policies and protocols be would be learned and implemented by each employee group before students returned as an association ASA did not believe a 3-we period was necessary for teachers to be on campus prior to the return of students but we did agree that a
staged roll out was best to ensure safety it was made clear by the district and the board on several occasions including the actual vote to approve the hybrid implementation plan that moving forward would be dependent upon local public health metrics as the first few employee groups returned we saw virus numbers continue to drop unfortunately things have dramatically changed our County Public Health numbers have since reverse Direction Landing Us in the purple tier indicating widespread proliferation of the Corona virus all five Anaheim ZIP codes in addition to both of the ZIP codes in Cyprus and La Palma within our district now have numbers reflecting widespread infection and purple tier classification furthermore our most effective Community affected communities have shown alarming increases in a short period of time the ZIP code which is home to Anaheim and
catella high schools as well as Sycamore and South Junior highs has an infection rate more than 50% higher than the threshold for the pandemic purple tier classification of widespread trans widespread transmission and a case rate that is more than 250% higher than that same threshold on a daily basis the numbers are getting worse across the state county and our communities epidemiologists and researchers across the country and within our community have been telling us to prepare for the coming wave this fall and winter that wave has arrived again we are thankful that the district has been so proactive in creating policies and protocols that will help prevent the SP spread of the virus on campuses we are also happy to be in a district that built relationships in the community and with the county resulting in
testing sites accessible to employees and community members on our campuses everything we have been doing will serve us well when we move forward but now is not that time now is the time to pause and see how strong this wave of infection is it is a time for everyone to draw back and avoid activity that can spread the disease it is not a time to bring over 2500 employees together at work sites after the Thanksgiving holiday break safety and science the same criteria that has led has led our decision-making process in the past needs to continue to guide our decision-making process in the present and into the future upon reflection about the needs of our students it is also not a time to bring their teachers back to campuses in order to learn about procedures
and protocol calls we have three weeks left in the most difficult semester any of our students has ever experienced every minute that teachers spend driving to work sitting in meetings rearranging classrooms or reviewing protocols to give needed input back to the district is time better spent supporting students for the final three weeks of the semester for 17 weeks we have created home classrooms many of which are more technology Rich than our own School classrooms and have improved procedures and schedules that best help us provide what our students need the anxiety and anguish that this change will create for students teachers and service providers with three weeks left in the semester is just not worth it with the recent and significant change to our Public Health we asked the District administration and the board for a
pause in the rollout plan for reopening of school campuses which includes a pause on the return of teachers and instructional aids to their work sites from the beginning the plan has been to move forward when virus numbers significantly drop and stabilize at the current time time they are doing neither thank you this concludes my report thank you grant we appreciate your report uh is uh someone here from Ala yes good evening thank you madam president Randa trle Board of Trustees superintendent matsuda executive board staff and community members uh it's an honor to be here with you uh we want to start obviously by congratulating Nancy nin for her appointment looking forward to meeting you more and having you here be part of the ahsc family I wanted to share with you that we are at
sites continuing to make the health and safety of our campuses a top priority so we are continuing to get um the sites ready for staff and students to return so uh you can visit our campuses and see the added signage uh we're also preparing more check-in stations Distributing and getting our PPU ready supply scen is for the return turn uh of our staff and students and then also making sure that whoever is on campus is following the safety protocols and guidelines that the opening task force and the recommendations are and so really um making sure that those things are in place also um on the other end we are continuing our emphasis on student engagement and instruction and so when needed we are making uh home visits because we want to make sure that we're
connecting with students uh we want to make sure that they uh know that uh we're there to support them and also we want to make sure that we connect them to Services if necessary so we uh all Sites have been doing home visits um also we have had site visits to discuss our Al cup recommendations and we want to make sure that we're addressing the needs of our students now in this distance learning we're working with staff inside on compassion and Grading and practices developing systems to support for students uh we're also continuing to do our coffee with the principles a lot of other uh parent meetings to connect them to our supports or workshops we've done social emotional workshops uh also we're contining our parent leadership academies for parents so that they build their
capacity and also we can again connect them to the resources and services that we have uh in addition we've continued our collaboration with Community Partners so we want to really give a shout out for all the Community Partners that have been stepping up uh particularly uh food distribution um those are much needed pantries that schools are offering we also have had College and Career events so our community part our our College Partners uh helping students in completing their college applications and making sure that they have experts uh so we've been doing that and also we've been working with OC human relations to build the capacity uh around implicit bias um and also last but not least we've been gearing already uh for the upcoming School year so as um Buck mentioned really focusing on positive
School culture and uh reaching out to our upcoming students but also you know the junior highs going to high school and really focusing our master schedule process and uh ensuring that we have those building blocks and that they're nurturing our positive School culture and they're students centered and so that is my report thank you so much for the time thank you Hilda can you um uh you said home visits uh can you just clarify that yes so every single site is monitoring student attendance and so when students um are absent and have let's say um 14 absences or more and it could be less it just depends um our teams at the school sites are reaching out via phone via email because we want to make sure that we know what's going on it is
it's it's um concerning to us that students are not logging in and so when students are not responding and we don't get an email response we're unable to connect our administrators and sites have been sending teams to make sure that we connect with them and we're giving them an attendance postcard just reaching out saying hey we miss you uh please connect with us we want to ensure that they have what they need and so they are Outreach engagement home visits social distancing of course and Ma of course yeah and we don't go in it is just knocking making sure there's someone there and handing uh an attendance postcard uh so that they can connect with the school site because we have been unable to connect them maybe we don't have the right numbers maybe we
don't have the right email uh and in the event that we're not able to connect in any way shape or form with a student we want to reach out to them that's remarkable thank you thank you for that report um my pleasure uh that's that's making my head spin so much work and uh yes we're making it work thank you Hilda okay um moving on and we appreciate all of our employees and we just want to wish you um a nice week off uh take a break and rest in the in the coming week um and next we have our um PTA representative uh Miss Cruz Perez are you online okay hearing that she's not here moving on to public comments Open Session items uh opportunities for public comments occur at the beginning of each
agenda item and at this time for items not on the agenda comments may be submitted online um prior to the meeting submissions will be read aloud during the board meeting by the um our Council District Council uh Carl weel and each speaker um oh that's not even pertaining because uh we'll just read each and every one of them and then I just want to point out board members cannot uh immediately respond to public comments uh ased on the speaker request form Carl all right good evening everybody we do have a few public comments this evening uh the first comes from Elizabeth hind a district teacher I teach beginning and advanced Visual Arts at Lexington Junior High School I love my students and I'm so proud of the artistic Works they are creating even though we
cannot be together in person at this time due to covid-19 pandemic I'm very thankful to our Board of Trustees and District administrators who were so generous in funding art kits for every visual art student in the Anaheim Union High School District these kits have both made my art instruction possible and given my students a sense of ownership and artistic agency I miss my students terribly and there is nothing I want more than to be back at school with them making art together and celebrating their work but as much as I want that to happen I want it to happen in a way that is safe and does not put anyone students colleagues or myself at risk of infection and illness Orange County's recent slip back into the purple tier and anaheim's Rising covid infection rates
are disturbing several of my friends have contracted covid despite maintaining and recommended precautions of wearing masks social distancing and washing hands frequently one a teacher in another District recovered but is still not at 100% physically one friend is currently ill and contact tracing revealed that he was infected by an asymptomatic carrier one friend died he was 35 years old and a cancer survivor but he was in excellent Health at the time of his infection I have health issues that put me at high risk of complications and possible death if I cont trct covid with this in mind my husband and I have been extremely Vigilant in our prevention precautions since March 13 we have stayed home we have had groceries and takeout restaurant food delivered we have not gotten together with friends we have not
seen our families even though they live nearby my husband teaches at CTO High School I am so thankful that both ahsd and ABC unified have put students and Educators Safety First and allowed teachers to work from home during this Public Health crisis anaheim's wise decision to operate in a full distance learning model has kept all of us safe I working harder than I ever have in my 24e teaching career but I do so joyfully knowing that I'm able to teach and support my students through this difficult time while we all while we are all staying home safe uh from covid I am hopeful about the vaccines that have been mentioned recently in the news and I look forward to the day when school can fully reopen and my students and I can make art together
in person again but I sincerely hope that the ahsd Board of Trustees will continue to prioritize students and employees health by voting for us to remain on the full distance learning model and allowing teachers to work from home until covid infection rates decrease to a safe level or a vaccine is available and distributed thank you for all you do I wish you all health and safety in this Thanksgiving season the next comment comes from Rachel pero also a district teacher I'm a teacher who has worked in the ahsd for 20 years and I'm writing to you to express my concerns over returning to School site instruction it has been proposed that teachers return to campus on December 1st but I would like to strongly urge against this action just this week Governor Nome declared that
Orange County should be reclassified into the covid purple tier one which mandates the most restrictive measures for Public Safety also experts have been saying for months that we can only expect the infection rate to increase going into the fall winter season and now that we approach the holidays I think it is undeniable that the situation is more likely to get worse not better now is not a responsible time to make a transition to teaching on school States I completely understand the need for normaly and a desire to provide quality instruction to students but I struggle to see what advantage comes from requiring teachers to be on campuses I fail to understand how students or their learning will benefit from me teaching from my empty classroom forcing teachers to be on campus will exponentially increase our
chances of being exposed to this lethal virus with no actual benefit I assure you that I am working longer and harder than I ever worked in my teaching career I truly want to deliver quality instruction and provide the social emotional support that students need but it takes a toll and I do not need the additional stress worrying about my safety and well-being also being spared the two-hour commute each day of affords me more time to support my students individual needs during these difficult times which is what I assume we all want please consider all of these factors carefully and I believe that you will see that the most reasonable and responsible decision would be to postpone teachers return to school campuses I know that it is not an easy decision to make but doing what
is right is not always easy I'm taking great care to keep myself and family safe and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have worked from home since last spring I appreciate everything our aohd has done to support their students and staff and I hope that they and this board will continue to make choices that keep everyone safe thank you for your time and consideration on this matter be well and be safe the next comment comes from Terry ransky a District Parent some of the most vulnerable students and families do not have a choice for their students to attend hybrid School in person as a result many students will have to attend school using the distance learning option as the options stand now students in the distance learning option will only have two days
of direct instruction from the teacher of their courses and three days on their own but the students in the hybrid School option will receive three days instruction this is not Equitable learning for the students in the distance learning option direct instruction is important for all students but especially important for our vulnerable students and families many of whom are English language learners and students with special needs the district needs to live stream all classes so that all students have Equitable learning opportunities teachers do not need to teach distance learning students online at the same time they are teaching students in the classroom but rather just live stream the direct instruction taking place in the classroom this will ensure that students at home have access to benefit from the same direct instruction from their content Area Teachers
as the students who are able to attend classes in person by the way in August California legislation was passed on emergency conditions which specifically allowed for live streaming class lessons without consent of teacher principal or Union so the state considers live streaming an important option for Equitable access education the next comment comes from Gail Torin also a District Parent my junior student and we want him to come back to school in January more than one day a week despite disruption it poses we can adapt Society has adapted we feel that the district teachers union and schools must adapt also one day is not enough it smashed our hopes her friends family at at Cypress High School also agrees we feel that it is not sufficient in person instruction for Ed her education amidst the pandemic
we are fine about the precautions taken at our high school by hardworking staff and it is in Orange County in addition the situation for one day is much too conservative this position I am stating needs recognition and a choice should have been allowed for families that want more inperson instruction days for their teens education versus being told not given any choice and we were told our family and Anonymous others will not be ruled by fear in 2020 fear inflexibility way too much conservativism and not fully realizing or caring how this impacts students amilies during their high school education memories was being behind this decision of returning to school in January only one day a week we were surprised and angry the superintendent ahsd and teachers unions must act more freely less conservative more flexible act
on enacting family's desires and act on not speling students hopes of their High School experience while in the pandemic from a double student Cypress High School family and our final comment of the evening comes from Gregory Sango regarding teachers returning to campus as a teacher I do not feel comfortable returning to the school site to teach distance learning from there when I'm able when I'm much safer and equally effective at doing my job from home I question whether or not returning teachers to the school site is beneficial to them or their students students who are disengaged are going to remain engage regardless of where their teachers are working from I understand that our jobs are important and the community depends on us but why the rush to return teachers to distance learn from campus without
students when they are just as effective from the safety of their homes even though the risk of exposure in my classroom may be low it poses an unnecessary risk to the health and safety of myself and my family schools all over the country that have previously reopened have made the decision to return to distance learning because of Rising cases for example in New York City they have stricter standards and lower case rates than we do but they re recently decided to return to dist learning as recently as this week San Bernardino County School District opted to continue distance learning perhaps we should consider being more cautious with respect to our returning to campus and that is our final public comment of the evening thank you so much it and moving on to our kindness matter

I think um uh Eric I don't I think Eric goes home at all um we so appreciate him uh we all know his value and um uh the um the gentleman that uh um gave of his time in in helping H the stroke victim that just teared me up so I'm a little uh uh emotional right here but um that just shows how wonderful our family is in ahsd and these are just a few examples of the tremendous kindness that we have uh in throughout our district but thank you Scott and Rita for this wonderful presentation and congratulations to all of our uh kindness recipients we thank you and we honor you okay moving on to uh presentation 10.1 uh colleagues is it okay if we move an item up I'm not sure um how

but I think I I if I recall uh so uh Mr O'Neal okay I heard him say I I saw him say I Mr Jabar I think Mr O'Neal you might want to hit star 60 6 what7 again star six it's just star six yes oh star six all right any case I say I miss piery I miss Smith I I vote I and miss o i yay and and be feel free Elizabeth at any time and now moving on to our School dismissal and distance morning presentation Dr freed thank you board president Randall tro and good evening to our our fellow board members to superintendent matuda our cabinet and of course to our larger Community watching this evening via live stream I'm assuming all of you can see the the PowerPoint slides okay just
want to make sure before we move on perfect okay so for tonight a couple things before we begin I want to just kind of preview our agenda for this presentation tonight so you know what to expect and then I'll set a few uh reminders before we begin um we'll begin with our superintendent giving an update as to what's happening at the county level uh with the rates and then a timeline that I'll be sharing in terms of our return of staff and students back to our campuses based on what superintendent mon student shares from there Mr cologne will then be sharing our proposed hybrid schedule that he has worked closely with our teachers to develop when students are able to return back uh to inperson instruction we then be followed by Dr Henry giving an
update on the survey data that we've received thus far from our parents as you know we have surveyed our parents and she will be giving an update in terms of what we've learned from their their feedback and then finally I will turn over to our director of curriculum instruction Mr Hernandez I know he has a team with with him as well uh that will be presenting on some of the great work that we've done to continue our Outreach efforts to our families and our communities uh before I turn over to Mr matsuda just a reminder uh for the flow and for those who are watching us via live stream I kindly request for our board if you could hold your questions comments till the end of the presentation and then of course our team is
more than happy to take the time to answer whatever questions you do have um having said all that I'm going to go ahead and now turn it over to Mr matsuda who will kick off our presentation thank you Dr freed and uh good evening everybody uh especially to our our new CBO Nancy nen I know that uh you're coming from um other districts and of course ahsd is a very special place with a very special culture I'm sure you uh you are seeing that and especially hearing about all these wonderful stories with our kindness matters and it's just that's just the tip of the iceberg because we have so many wonderful caring people here as you know and I think that's uh uh something that really Drew you to our district um so we we
are also I mean despite the fact that we cover 30,000 students across five cities we are a district that really believes in democracy as well I think you you know that we are a democracy district with 15 schools and what that means is that our board and our cabinet knows that we serve our constituents our parents and our students and it's not the other way around and we've listened uh very carefully to all of our constituents regarding the return to schools and as such that um we have decided to postpone the December 1st return to school day for teachers and the December 7th Day for the classified folks the board will be having a special meeting on December 1st to determine the U the calendar towards the end of the year as um but but
having said that I do want to acknowledge the the fact that we believe our schools are safe um and I do want to also acknowledge that uh since March our food service workers have been on the front lines since the summer when we did have the surge our custodians came back and really since the early fall we have many of our uh CCA members our front office staff our counselors and of course their administrators um really um who have come back all of the district office is back as well I do also want to point out too that um superintendants have been meeting regularly with Dr Clayton shell and you may have seen his name in the papers because he is the chief medical officer for the County of Orange so we we have um
met we meet every Friday all the superintendant and uh the discussion of course was about the purple tier what that means and I'm sure that you guys do recognize that the purple tier once you're in the purple tier we cannot open to schools for students students however the schools that are already open which is most of Orange County um can remain open and after learning about that the uh Clayton Chell Dr CH asked the superintendent uh for a poll a survey uh this was just past Friday of whether any of the schools currently open would close and none of them are closing including three of our feeder districts and virtually all of the districts surrounding us so they currently have students and staff um you know in some sort of hybrid model now having said
all that we um really believe and working very uh closely with all of our constituents and as Mr Grant Schuster said that we have done that we've been very careful about every decision that we've made in collaboration with all of our constituent groups so and we're very proud of that because we are very very close to all of our people our parents and our students and while we don't agree on a lot of these things and we know much of the country is split on this we do um I believe we've made the best decisions on behalf of the safety of our students in staff so I um once again um as before I return it back to jiren just want to to reiterate the fact that the December 1st uh date has been postponed
to be determined and the board will be having a special meeting on that day to uh determine the rest of the calendar so again want to thank all of our folks um all of our employees um and especially our teachers who have been so amazingly creative and Innovative and um I mean it you and the teachers know it's not just them as you heard from the kindness award are classified our custodians everybody in this district has worked so hard prioritizing students and families feeding them taking care of their social emotional needs and taking care of each other and uh that's been my message that uh when before we can take care of others we really need to take care of ourselves first and I want to put out on behalf of the board uh a
heartfelt thank you to all of our employees for doing just that so Dr free thank you Mr M and just so the board can see here's a visual of what Mr matsudo just referred to so when we meet on December 1st I know we'll talk more in depth about uh the the plans moving forward um you'll notice the 2B determines are the groups that we next in line to return back uh via our phase or stag approach um what you also see is the January 4th fth the January 6th and January 11th stes italicized the reason that is italicized is as Mr matsuda had indicated because we are in the purple tier right now if that remains or we don't have the two weeks of clearance in the red tier before those dates we are
not able to return our students so this will all be dependent upon the guidance we get from the county and the state in terms of what those dates might look like moving forward again we had that there as a visual for you just to remind you in terms of when we were looking to bring back students had we remained in the red tier but now that we're not uh this could change based on how the rates progress throughout our County and the guidance that we receive what I would like to do now is I'm G to turn over to Mr cologne he has done great work with our teacher input group and our opening schools task force they have been working closely to revise um our hybrid our proposed hybrid schedules so he's going to
share a little bit of the work that that we've done and that what we're looking to do should we return or when we return uh to some type of in-person instruction these are the schedules we're looking to to to to use moving forward so Mr clone I'll go and turn it over to you great thank you Dr freed um and as Dr freed said you know a lot of work has already been done I want to thank our opening school's task force who met all the way through the summer to really prepare for the start of school um coming up with the different models both in terms of a hybrid model as well as a as a virtual model um and as everything has gone as we've received new guidance we also have adapted and
adjusted uh and improved our models that we initiated uh back in July and so um as as we've done with um with the virtual model um we also um have improved our hybrid model uh if and when we return to inperson instruction and so what you have in front of you is the high school changes that we are proposing um so if you look at the uh the top of the of the page uh you will see that we have added a Friday synchronous day uh from our original model So currently our proposed model is that on Monday it would be a synchronous day for all classes on Friday it will be a synchronous day for all classes this also allows for professional learning for our teachers as well as a late start for our
for our staffs at the school sites um school would start at 9:10 and would go through to 2:35 so that is Monday and Friday and they're synchronous which means that students are at home and teachers are teaching virtually um for Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday uh it Remains the Same as we have proposed which is to divide our student population into into thirds this will allow us for an increase um safety of our students to ensure social distancing um and for and to allow for smaller class sizes so on Tuesday we would invite our cohort a to the campuses on Wednesday we would invite our cohort B to the campuses and on uh Thursday we would invite our cohort C to the campuses these are for students families who choose uh for in-person instruction um we
also have a live cheick in which is required by uh uh the state that we check in with all of our students every single day so the live check-in will continue to be second period for our high school students um if you notice the schedule this is actually a uh a early release schedule which means that students would start school at 7:55 and would end school at 1:00 and they would do grab and go lunch and we'd go home from there uh the afternoon would be asynchronous so again this is Monday uh this is Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday for in-person instruction so this is the hybrid uh proposed schedule for uh the high schools for the junior highs the proposed schedule again um we've added Friday as a synchronous schedule from our original schedule uh
and it allows for Teacher professional learning in the morning and then for school to start at 8:55 this is virtual and end at 2:35 again virtual so this is Monday and Friday um for in-person instruction again we would invite our cohort a students onto our campus on Tuesday our uh cohort B students on Wednesday and our cohort C students on Thursday um for the junior highs um we would go from 7:55 uh to 12:30 p.m. students would then uh grab and go lunch um and then in and then have their live check-in in the afternoon so any student who is not on campus on either Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday they would do their live check-in at 12:30 uh with with their teacher and this would be uh the second period is who they would report
to um and then in the afternoon would be asynchronous um so these have been the proposed schedules again we've worked really hard with our teacher input group I want to thank all of them we have representatives from all of our campuses um and they've taken it back and gotten additional um feedback from many of our colleagues at the sites uh and then uh We've um improved what we currently had in July and are proposing this uh for when and if our students return to our campuses thank you thank you Mr col I appreciate the update we're now going to go ahead and transition to Dr Henry as you know she has been leading our efforts and surveying our families uh throughout this time so she's going to give you a report in terms of what
we've collected from their input thus far so Dr Henry hi good evening thank you everyone um as you know in October we conducted two surveys um as more of a check-in model to see um what our fam's needs were and as well as staff we did a staff and a parent survey to assess needs gauge Comfort levels with different models uh see how things had been going in distance learning and also ask about levels of communication this survey as a followup um is different however we launched this survey because we felt we needed to get some real numbers to see um if we are safe to open in January um were our parents wanting to send their students to our hybrid model or have them remain in distance learning next slide so this was the
process of how we rolled out the survey um the survey launched on November 9th emails were sent to parents prior to the survey we tried to do some front loading the week before um in order to give them time to review the options there were links um there was a description of the hybrid model as well as the distance learning model and then links to um our Cambridge Virtual Academy as well as our different independent studies options including Polaris Kennedy independent studies and catella independent studies in ahsd our survey was translated into four other languages other than English it was sent out in Vietnamese Korean Spanish and Arabic it was sent out via email social media site newsletters um and uh we really tried to have uh multiple ways that we were communicating about this
survey uh sites um had created presentations to share with uh with parents if they needed more information than what was described in the email so we had um most sides Ed sites use the same slides so it was a very aligned presentation describing the different options and what parents needed to do to fill out the survey and then reminders were sent out every few days and are continuing to be sent out so parents can um complete the survey next slide so our participation uh so far is um 18,446 when I ran the data uh at noon today just a few minutes ago uh we had an additional 140 responses we're now at 18585 responses you can see the breakdown by school of the responses and we are monitoring that and sending these um graphs out
every day to our um to to many of our different stakeholders to all principles assistant principles our family and Community engagement Specialists as well as senior admin um our registar our attendance clerks are all getting daily updates of participation next slide so as of right now um and it it it has remained steady for the most part although we are seeing a little bit of an increase within since we were announced in the purple tier of families wishing to remain in distance learning but overall for our district 53% of families are saying they would prefer a hybrid model if it is safe to do so in January and 41% of our families would prefer to remain in distance learning at their home school as I stated other options were listed including our Cambridge Virtual Academy
in dependent studies programs and there was also an other option and 6% of our families um selected one of those go ahead and next slide so just to let you know how we've been communicating with our sites there have been um every other day we have been downloading Excel files of all responses including those that are selecting other responses and um it has the students ID number number name parent contact information and um what the selection was we're doing this so that if parents have been calling to say did you get my response have I filled out the survey and they were also doing Outreach every other day this was upload um updated so they had files divided up by school of every student who had completed the survey also uh dashboard screenshots which you
saw a few of the district screenshots but they also were created for every single School so there are over 20 dashboards in our qual Trek system that our administrators have been given access to so they could also monitor live data every day um for their own high school to see where their responses were and where the decision and if it were changing uh our end goal in this is once the survey is closed then uh we will be uploading this information into our area student information system and so uh we can that will help us with scheduling making sure that our numbers um of students that want to return to a hybrid um model we're able to keep them distanced and um that our numbers are balanced and um also once that information is uploaded
into our student information system we will continue to reach out to families who have not yet completed the survey thank you thank you Dr Henry for that update I now want to shift to Mr Carlos hernandz our director of curriculum instruction team are going to how we are engag thank you Dr freed and good evening everyone uh good evening board cabinet and guests we uh we're excited to share with you some updates on what we are doing in terms of engaging our families during this challenging covid and distance learning uh time uh there are uh I do have a team with me you know I wanted you to hear directly from those in the trenches so um we have two family community engagement Specialists that will share and um in in understanding a virtual parent
leadership academy that's Sylvia van y from Walker and hope uh our family community engagement specialist and Carlos oras Hernandez uh at Oxford Academy that will share as well I also we also have um one of our community school coordinators who's work um working as an interim coordinator for family community engagement arela that is also in the room if there are any questions about our systems we want to share with you our um Community Schools data uh this is how we are approaching our community right it is our community together um and I know next slide Dr freed if you can uh there we are thank you um we have three sort of buckets and emphasis as a system what we are doing to support our community um through this uh responding to covid through this
challenging time uh starting in July we started um working on uh I'll start from the the last one testing covid testing um at four different School sites now mainly at Anaheim high school and Magnolia High School uh a little bit at Western High School um but we've had up as of last week or two weeks ago November 6 37 different clinics uh mobile clinics that's how many you know tested uh and that's the positivity rate um and so you know our our families are have been using and are very uh you know thankful and grateful to have our partners in the community be uh locally you know available to for the testing um again Latino Health Access and Orange County healthcare agency are partners with Care Ambulance and um families together uh back up to
the top care package distributions this is a system of support with many Community organizations helping us out to be able to deliver uh as of again last uh two weeks ago about 1600 families attending receiving care package items that are in much uh in need uh at home 8800 uh or more than that individuals reached look at the unemployment rate of those that have been able to be served 32% unemployment and 72% um have been affected by by covid so we're we're reaching the right families and that is the good news and we will continue to have these care package distributions in fact we had one this week that uh wasn't represented in that data food distributions we've had over close to 20,000 families served uh this is with our our partners Saddleback Church and
icna Islamic circle of North America our partners you know again Community Partners have come through to help support 30 different distributions and that's the number so a lot of good work responding to the need and we're only continuing to grow that uh come December and beyond all right and next slide that uh is just simply again we've talked about the the the mobile testing um events this is the the data from those mobile testing events and as you see there's an upward trajectory uh you know just uh got Tu Monday we had over 400 community members come to the testing uh clinic and and we're we were averaging about a hundred and so I know the need is there and we continue to to to want to be available for those testing clinics we will
have uh open Monday as well of next week at Anaheim High School even through during uh during break so that's good news all right we're going to shift over to College and Career Fair and and just go through uh data again this is C celebratory thanks to the efforts of our partners our College and Career Partners our folks in the trenches uh our counselors our administrators our teachers we had H an amazing virtual College and Career Fair that was designed by you know a significant task group to be able to put this together first ever right but we'd like to say very proud to be the largest College and Career Fair in the universe because it was huge U you know we had over 4,000 participants we had uh over 111 live breakouts all day
and typically it's a College and Career Fair in the evening it happens at the convention center we shifted it and we went virtual and we only not only opened that component of it which was the the showcasing you know talking to College and Career Partners but we also had live sessions for you know the different topics to support uh students their families about everything regarding college career it it uh in highlighted our our teachers it highlighted our um our staff on campus and it also highlighted our college career Partners again there's some numbers again celebrating that next slide Dr freed we also wanted to look at how did it how do we do with our grade levels you know who who attended so as you see every single uh grade level attended uh you know
Senior High you know obviously was senior high school or you know seniors were uh the most that attended because they were thinking about defin in a few months what do I need to do to be ready um but we did have representatives from all grade levels uh and so next slide really shows the the work that every single school did to get our students and their families there again these are our numbers by S side you know some stand out and so the question was well goodness what did catella do what did Dale do again everyone worked hard but we are learning from those best practices those High highlights and again huge shout out to our teachers because they accepted this as an assignment they said you know it's an asynchronous day go to the
event come and and and and and sign in and we we know that you've been working we're gonna um count that as your engagement assignment on an asynchronous day and so again Katella High School we're learning from those bright spots again shout out to those stakeholders but everyone again the key thing is everyone participated all right and uh next slide Dr freed uh again a big uh you know highlight was our Anaheim collaborative our pledge Partners every single pledge partner and they they were the most popular live sessions Cal State Fullerton in the house C arvine Fullerton College you know Cypress College and of course NCAA is always of interest to folks how do you become an athlete College athlete but those are the numbers and again those are the most popular sessions we continue
to increase the relationship and the trust and our students and our families know this is you know who I want to talk to I want to talk to my pledge partners because I know they're going to take care of me as I transition out of Anaheim Union all right so again we're celebrating and we want to continue to look at um what we are doing to shift our supports with our families now and so I'm going to turn it over to Sylvia and godos to be able to share with us how did we shift the virtual parent leadership academy and then also we know we we're thinking about our parent learning walks and how are we going to shift the parent learning walks uh and with you we're going to have uh Sylvia go go
first with um the parent learning walks or parent Lear Leadership Academy you're mut thank you Mr Hernandez thank you Mr and the board and all of our guests here today um so as part of the team that helped to develop the virtual parent leadership academy in partnership with Gea we were looking at how we could help our parents trans transition from in person to distance learning and help their students to be successful and I know you you got a sketch of what the modules would look like the order of them earlier in the year but here it is again where our focus is helping them to navigate the systems but also to understand that their impact in terms of Engagement and the way that they help their students you know support their emotional social emotional
health is key to their academic success and their wellbeing as we often emphasize here at ahsd can we go to the next slide um so this is a slide from one of our first from our first module and we emphasize uh parents agency here in the district knowing how and where to get help so that they feel empowered to advocate for their students and we go through an exercise where we several scenarios and ask them after we introduce the different uh persons on campus and other agencies that they can appeal to and so our parents interact with us and it's just a fun way to display that but it's an important exercise that we've carried through from the F first uh parent lead Leadership Academy that was of course in person in our campuses but
that's a big part of what we help parents with is to identify the people and the resources that they help students to be successful and so that's what this um slide covers this was an important slide that comes from um and still is but it was an important slide that we developed in collaboration with Tracy Olsen um our curriculum specialist for students with disabilities and this slide um it's really a video that we also translated into Spanish uh working with Miss ol but what it does it delineates how the National Online standards are applied to our curriculum building in this distance uh distance learning platform all across ahsd and what are the most pertinent aspects that parents can understand are and how to identify them when they're looking at their students curriculum or whether they're
you know sitting side by side with them as some of our parents have done while um students are in class just because the circumstances um bring that about it is a fantastic um video that she helped us put together um we all collaborated and brainstormed but these are some of the National Online standard points looking at excellence and education online and we knew that as a team and as a district we wanted to keep that high level of Education quality education helping our students achieve their goals even though we had a transition into this format so that's what this particular slide covers and um as we've developed all of this we've also developed our parent leaders typically we would partner with them and our parent leaders would be the leads but as initiating a whole
new style and content we realize that faces would take the lead and then bring along parents and each different site is incorporating parent leadership in different ways um we've had a couple of rounds now a virtual parent leadership academy at our sites so we're looking to do that more that is put our parents more in the Forefront so that they're empowered to continue to lead their students along with all the community in ahsd but it's you know our faith in our community that says you can do this you can support your student and we're right here with you so um with that I'll transition to my partner Carlos Hernandez oras Hernandez to speak to the next slides Carlos real quick before you begin uh trusty uh board president Rand tro I see that you raised
your hand uh is it something you want to ask now or something you want to hold off until the end okay just want to make sure thank you so go ahead Carlos I'll go ahead and turn it over to you as I go to the next slide yes I wish we had the time to present that video uh but we're leaving that you know so people can have that interest in finding out what is bpla right what is the Virgin parship Academy and that's what we want we want to build interest from our parents and we realize that you know when you grow up you learn to be a parent by seeing your parents but once you have virtual education uh is something that we have not been familiar with and some of us don't
even know you know how to parent I mean parenting doesn't come with a book and so uh we hope to provide parents with some strategies and some tools that they can uh do you know with their student and so this slide right here is from our module two of the ver the virtual parent leadership academy or the bpla as we call it and we want parents to um have a a tool you know because they they are they're playing a role in the movie and the movie is called life and as you're you know you're trying to be a best parent you want to find out what's going on with their student at home and so the common question is how was your day and that doesn't really bring a conversation it just you know
it's just another thing that puts pressure on a student and sometimes they answer you know it was okay or you know that's it and doesn't build that dialogue and so what we're trying to do is we're trying to build parents with some cues with some tools where they can ask you know something like uh what was something you already knew or what do you still wonder you know what do who do you interact with you know those type of questions that build more of a discussion and a dialogue with the student and that's when you're having the teacher and the students on the same day like doing the synchronous learning but sometimes you may be at home like on a Tuesday or a Thursday and you're thinking what should I ask my student because they
didn't go to school today so you can say something like what can I do to help you you know structure your time and space do you need me to help you with something what are some resources that you need and those type of questions and so you know we're building um leaders and that's the whole idea of the uh parent leadership academy but how do we do it virtually well we set up we changed the skill right we're using a hammer before now we need a wrench so we're giving them a wrench and so the whole idea is to have them um be of assistance to their students and so that's just one slide if we go to the the other one um and this is one of the uh culminating slides uh where we
talk about information and academics we our last our last module is all about um social emotional well-being but this being from schoolo G and this is part of our third module which talks about online platforms we want the parents to be um well informed and we want them to be of support we don't want them to see schoolo G and Aries and all these online platforms as uh you know as a hurdle or as an obstacle but instead of a tool you know we want him to be informed so we give them those skills um and we give him some tips on what to do you know with education but we also show them what it is what does it look like so instead of asking the question what are you missing you can actually
go to school you can go to you know here you know this image talks about number four and you go to the overdue section and it tells you exactly what the student's missing as opposed to trying to find out oh what didn't you turn in or what you didn't do you have it all there and so we try to break it down for them in chunks and the feedback has been great people have liked this the Virtual parip Academy and today was actually our last session for someone us you know we we have uh two cohorts already sort of what we call graduate because they finished the the sessions and you know they asked the question so what's next you know today's our last day and I told them you know well you know my
tiar I'm pushing them back in because we're done with this cohort but we wish to give you more but we just don't have it at the moment we're building on more capacity we want to build capacity from other parents and we also tell them that they are the leaders now they have the information we want them to disseminate this information to other parents and um you know we talking about collaboration talking about passing it on we also realized that this opportunity if you want to look at the silver lining of this whole pandemic has allowed us to collaborate and build on uh our you know our Partnerships and so we have instead of having you know a vpla in each CL in each uh school we decided to do the feeder school so we have
the junior high and we have the high school working together and so those parents are already interacting in a virtual space um and on the west side we call it the West Side uh you know like tell I mean Kennedy Walker Oxford uh and this year we even invited parents from the Cambridge Virtual Academy to join us in this collaboration and so we gave them uh a tool of learning about the different things and we realized on Schoo that they're not using School using e Cadence so we even collaborated with Miss Spencer who's one of the teachers who's developed and trained the teachers on how to use e Cadence to teach our families about e Cadence and so all we want to do is we want to um provide those tools like I said and
you know we're trying to be with the side guyses be with the current Trend be with what the parents need at the moment and talking about back about our feedback they're asking for more digital literacy they're asking for more technical questions you know we we invite them or we introduce like the Google suite and Google dogs and they're like wait Google dog how do I do that can I learn it and so unfortunately we had to we know this is where we stop our training this where I can introduce you but you know we can follow up one-on-one but we're probably going to be doing some um type of training or development for our parents to be more uh Technical and more techsavvy because some of them are but you know they want the next
level what's next and and that's always the question what's next so with that I'm G to pass on the question to Mr Hernandez what's next all right thank you Carlos syvia for sharing your passion uh and your leadership and helping build capacity with our families and our parents the last slide is is simply this we are um again we started with our V virtual parent leadership academy that development happened in the summer and the implementation happened in first in the entirety basically first quarter and now transition into sort of another round and second quarter and we're going to continue this significant work because it is that valuable we are now looking at embedding our virtual parent learning walk again it's going to be virtual uh you know the parent learning walk structure and functions that
we are typically traditionally used to are those parent learning walks where our te our parents are uh help uh facilitated by our principles our parents walk into classrooms they open the door our teachers are welcoming them into the classroom and they get to see the you know what do you see what how does this you know the teacher check for understanding what are these questions and so because we can't do that we are needing to embed it in this virtual platform that is a successful model that our feedback from our parents um is that they love it as you heard from our faces and they want more and so now our principles are going to help us fa facilitate the virtual parent learning walks um in the very near future uh we are finishing up
the the implementation but again this helps us build capacity in our parents to be able to as you see in the goal support learning at home and create that healthy tension uh between uh us and our community members to be able to uh uh help us understand how teaching learning helps students at at home and what what is the role of the parents and and and in that environment as the parent learning walks are we're we're used to that uh structure in a successful Manner and so we're going to be doing that uh in the very near future all right all right thank you Carlos and team so before I turn over to you uh Madame President just real quick as we head into Thanksgiving as you can see um on behalf of our cabinet
uh we can't thank um and show enough gratitude and appreciation for our our colleagues across the district uh just the tremendous work they're they're doing to support our students and our families and of course each other um you know all the way from our Administration to our teachers our counselors you saw our faces I would argue all of our classified staff our askme employees our M Department transportation I can go on and on uh just the great work that's being done to support our families despite the fact that we're in these unprecedented times so with that I'm gonna go and turn it back over to you and the board should you have any questions for us to answer thank you Dr Fred and thank you everyone for your presentations I think I just got too
excited and I was raising my hand like I want to be in that c hard I want I want to learn technology thank you so much I've been asking about that how we were supporting our parents so this presentation was um was exactly what I was uh looking for today um thank you Carlos for those H phenomenal stats and um I know everyone's working so hard to um to really Outreach to our families uh who are in need I I that 32% unemployment is just uh horrific number um and so but it just uh outlines just how desperate our families are so thank you for those stats and congratulations on the College and Career Fair um such a successful Endeavor and I just I can't even imagine how uh you even began to uh put
that together so thank you to everyone uh for that and uh Bor if you had any questions um I will open the floor to that all right I I have one here I want to say too Carlos about the the College and Career Fair that's phenomenal the numbers were great I wondered how it would work but obviously it was a smashing success that's great and I say kudos to the catella and Dale teachers clever wow I mean and I'm sure every one of those kids enjoyed it and was glad that they did it but I'm going to go now to horao I have a question you mentioned EC Cadence who is using EC Cadence um so we talked about the Learning Management systems that we have uh for the district and so most schools um
except for the Cambridge uh Virtual Academy uses uh e Cadence so everybody Elsey uh CVA uses e Cadence well that's what I thought but when I but I missed when you said it I wasn't sure whether you were talking about some Elementary School using it or whatever so okay gotcha thank you and uh Stephanie thank you so much for putting that survey together very quickly we asked for it and you did it and um it looks like uh people are still uh chiming in um but but thank you those numbers really um are significant to the decisions that we make as a whole and um and really quickly Manuel um if I call when we started the task force the reason for the hybrid a Model A lot of folks are asking why hybrid why
and if I recall it was because we wanted to take a measured response and not just have you know everyone on campus all at the same time am I correct in that yeah that that is correct we wanted to make sure that we were cautious we wanted to make sure that we would be able to social distance um you know when students uh and staff were on campus absolutely and the idea of bringing seventh graders and nth graders on campus first we wanted to you know these students have never seen their campuses seventh graders have never been on the junior high campus and ninth graders have never been on the high school campus we wanted them to to to have an opportunity to acclimate to the campus get to know the staff um get to
know the locations of everything before everybody else came on to the campus we you know we normally do Transition events with our Junior High kids and our and in our seventh and ninth graders and because of covid and the pandemic we have not been able to do so so this would give us an opportunity to do something special with our seventh and ninth graders thank you so much any other questions no I have a comment I wanted to make a comment about Stephanie thank you very much for that survey and she gave me some prep or or pre-information as she was working on it and I appreciate that tremendously thank you madam president I have some questions uh can we go back to the Stephanie can we go back to the uh survey participation slide
um jiren can you pull up the slide back up just give me one second I can speak to it though let me pull it back up he pulls that up let me just give kudos to uh Manuel and the team uh I had the opportunity to visit Anaheim high school and kind check on uh the the site in terms of uh preparations if we were to bring back students and I could tell you that uh it's one of the safest place to be in uh you guys have done a tremendous job in making sure that taking every aspect of concern into uh consideration to address that so I wanted to give you kudos for that um no the the slide before that uh Stephanie oh jiren the survey participation slide I think there were updated
numbers so I had a quick question regarding this I know it's 18,446 if you take a look at Cyprus high school or Anaheim high school so we're saying Cyprus high school had 2347 return now I just a clarification for me does this mean that each and every student or that the parent of a student turn this uh survey back this was um the responses that we have so far uh we we do not have all responses from All Families at this point no no no I understand that but what I'm saying is the 2347 what who are those they are like individual parents so is it unduplicated it's for each child we asked families if they had more than one child to to um fill it out for each child so we could better track
the data especially if they had families so those are um responses for each child so if I was a parent of cypron high school and I had a a kid in uh uh 8th grade and in uh ninth grade then they filled out two yes that way we could um better track our numbers and we will be uploading um the data in our student information system for each child so we needed separate responses for each child okay [Music] um I guess the question for me is would that skew I guess not and in a way you could also take a look at it and see that it does skew because if you do have um two two kids but anyways we could discuss that offline um and then I wanted to go to Mr Jabar
if I may um I think Stephanie if if they had two children and one was at Cyprus and one was at Lexington only one would show up at Cypress the other would show up at Lexington correct yes um and that's why we had them do it separately we know that families may have children with different needs we also know that that our families have children at multiple schools and so we needed to make sure that uh the child in your sit uh in your example Carl was if they went to Lexington we need to have the data for Lexington two different school that's different but I was kind of trying to figure out how we would factor into if we had like two kids in the same school but anyways that's that's data for you
um let me go back to Carlos with the uh Au is Community School numbers I I wanted to just give kudos Su and uh relli for doing some fantastic work with this distribution and the team itself I think you guys are amazing I I want to congratulate each one of you for doing a fantastic job I can't I can't tell you how much I've heard from parents who are very happy and uh grateful for what we've done so I want to make sure that I highlight both of them and our partners nna and Saddleback Church for doing what they've done including Latino Health Access with the testing uh so the the question on this one again is the care package distribution so we we're saying that 1,610 families unduplicated that we've served correct ahead so
how does the 8,853 individual reach uh factor into that sorry my phone so we collected each family pre-registered for the care package distributions so we asked how many adults from 18 to 64 were in the family how many seniors 65 years and older and how many children 0 to 17 were in the home so we added up the numbers and that's how we got the individuals reached for so that 8 8,853 is coming out of the unduplicated 1610 families correct yes correct and there are actually care packages that we distributed that we didn't account for in these numbers because um we gave them away maybe towards the end of a distribution um to families who like walked up at our first couple distributions if we had any left over um we did a better job
in the last couple to um collect the data for those families that did walk up without pre-registering we registered them on site so these are duplicated numbers all right well thank you very much arelia again for all your work on that one so uh my next Kudos is obviously College and Career affir you guys did a fantastic job and that was uh amazing uh again there I wanted to ask about the data so we're saying that catella high school had 157 um students who participated or families students students that participated so they they logged in uh they were all pre-registered they logged in to a time and during the College of care career fair starting at 10 o'clock was our first live session so either 10 o'clock or 12 or one or three or in
the afternoon and they logged in they participated uh and so they were engaged in at one of the activities or multiple activities but it was an individual student logging in and participating and these all unduplicated too uh correct that's so I know callers you mentioned that we learned something from it so what did we learn and how can we uh push like for example know we have like uh syo junior high or Western High School having uh South Junior High Low numbers right uh what did we learn that we could Implement to in a virtual setting I mean God forbid we're in the same situation next year but um yeah what learn yeah what we learned is uh that you know these live first of all the live session component we need to figure out
a way to keep regardless of whether we're going to be face Toof face in person or or or or distance learning because you know wherever they are the students and their families they can plug in and receive the knowledge and be able to dialogue with those with those Partners the way that catella specifically did it is uh you know Kim gurn the the lead counselor I'm assuming at the site leadership level site leadership team they discussed it and they said we know we we we want to replace we want to replace the any assignments during that asynchronous day um and maybe not any but at least the engagement assignment to be able to say On th this was a Thursday you know student if you show up to the college career fair and you engage
in one of the live sessions we're going to count that engagement as assignment the teacher will be able to receive that attendance as your assignment so um they they uh did not add to it they didn't say well after you finish up your assignments for the day go check out the college career fair but they they intended or they in turn replaced that that assignment which was um very a unique system that you know again it took the counselor's U you know management you know leadership to be able to push that idea out and the teachers to welcome it and to figure out a way to capture the attendance for those students so learning from that that's what we're going to replicate across the district and request that from sites okay all right well as
long as you learn and uh increase those numbers because I think you know part of it is the reason that I asked that is in a virtual setting sometimes people do get tired and they don't want to attend these extra uh sessions which are virtual right so but this is I think a uh very important aspect of our students that we would want to see more attendance here so uh hopefully we could replicate that and virtual pray and Leadership Academy again uh I want to thank folks who are involved with that I think that's a great great way of getting our parents engaged and I know some of them are struggling so this is an opportunity for us to actually uh give them the tools necessary to help their kids and I think uh this
is very very uh interesting and welcome in in the community so thank you very much that's all my questions thank you Mr Jabar Katherine did you have any comments or questions or Brian well I would like to say thank you and gratitude to each and everyone and I just have such a sense of Pride for the type of people that we have uh doing what they do in our school system and I just wish you all a lovely Thanksgiving Carlos I just wanted to send my kudos to you and your team I You' have done here uh the great presentation on um on the presentation what Al was just talking about uh the U the uh um the uh College and Career Fair I thought that was that was great I I popped into at
least half a dozen uh sessions just to see if uh anybody was there what was going on and everyone that I I popped into they were so professional in their presentation I was I wasn't surprised but I was very pleased so um just want to let you know about that and I'm assuming that I'm not in any of those numbers there you popped in yeah I yeah I don't think we included you we separated you you were special you were the one for that special category I didn't see it though congratulations and with was talking about and with with getting those numbers I think that was a fantastic idea uh you know getting the students to to use that as a synchronous day super assignment so uh we live and learn so that's great thank
you so much thank you thank you Mr O'Neal thank you everyone uh Dr Fred you must be uh beaming right now you have a wonderful team and this is uh only a partial of your team so no doubt no doubt very blessed we are very blessed thank you everyone all right moving on 10.2 our program so it's back over to us again but I promise this will be a more succinct presentation it's not as in in-depth as uh what we just shared with you um I'm excited to have Amanda Bean here with us tonight uh our our program administrator of curriculum instruction as you guys know um in the enter entertainment World they often say during challenging times The Show Must Go On well I I would say that during this pandemic we have continued
to innovate continue to expand and grow our services and programs regardless of of the the challenges that we have been faced with and Amanda and Carlos Hernandez along with um um our counselors at the sites have worked closely with our Cypress and flon college Partners to continue to grow and strengthen our dual enrollment opportunities so tonight is more of an update for Amanda to share with you the great work that we are doing how we are progressing and what the conversations look like with our partners to continue this workout in the future so with that I'm gonna go and turn it over to Amanda who who will walk us through um this journey hi good evening I'm Board of Trustees superintendent matsuda and cabinet um as Dr Fred said I'm Amanda bean and I am
a program administrator in curriculum and instruction and I have the pleasure of overseeing our dual enrollment program and I'm really happy to share with you tonight um some of our successes our areas of growth and our goals moving forward you can go ahead and go on Jaren so in 2015 AB 288 was signed into law it's known as The College and Career access Pathways partnership the goal of this legislation is to provide access for high school students into um higher education specifically for Career Education and preparation for transfer and the goal of the legislation is to work with students who are underserved and under and from under represented communities and um for students who are not already College Bound so some of the elements of a dual enrollment program would include that um classes count
for both high school and college credit the courses are taught by a college professor uh the courses could be taken on a high school or a college campus the students do not have to pass an exam at the end of the course like they do with like advanced placement um and that students um just get to experience the college life uh Within the safety of the high school environment um go ahead and forward Jaren so the data the National Data demonstrates that students that participate in a dual enrollment program improve students success in high school and in college so for example sorry my phone start me um so for example compared to similar peers students that complete do enrollment on average um have a 7% higher high school graduation rate uh 15% higher rate of
college enrollment and 25% higher rate of completing a college degree and the data shows that the positive effects on dual enrollment um in college degree attainment and Workforce entry um are even stronger for lowincome students um when they participate in dual enrollment as a high school student so basically when a student um participates in do enrollment they're reducing the time it takes for them to earn a college degree Ree and allows them to enter the workforce faster or it allows them just to enter the workforce Faster by taking CTE courses while in high school and earning certifications to earn them a well-paying job right out of high school youing forward so some of the benefits of a dual enrollment program as well are that um when students are in dual enrollment they are considered a
college student so they have access to all of the uh benefits that a college student would have so they can access the library the Student Health Center campus clubs um and any of the resources available on the college campus another benefit to dual enrollment is that we can expand what we offer students and offer them things that we may not be able to offer on the high school campus so giving them more opportunities to explore and grow and um students who take dual enrollment are Le less likely to need remedial courses once they do enter College as a full-time college student you can go ahead and move forward so another way that dual enrollment benefits students and it benefits us um is in terms of the College and Career Readiness dashboard so the dashboard um
demonstrates whether a student is likely prepared for the next step in life dual enrollment is part of three of the indicators um that a student could access to be marked as prepared and so one of the things that we're really targeting is working with our counseling teams to help them uh work with students in the academic plan and execute a six-year plan that intentionally includes taking a dual enrollment course sometime during High School our goal really is that students will either take um a dual enrollment course and their a through G requirements or take a dual enrollment course and complete a CTE pathway um or take two dual enrollment courses in order to be marked as prepared um there are several ways a student can meet the indicator um but the ones that we're really
trying to push are the ones that can be influenced through coursework and that students can plan and prepare for um and so uh dual enrollment is one of was one of those options you can forward so um so this slide demonstrates our growth of our dual enrollment program since the implementation of ab 288 so the last four years the numbers on the slide show the total enrollments and completed courses based on our transcript data so this means that there are students that have that take more than one class this counts every completed class so this could be a duplicated student number so right off the bat you might notice that there's a a difference between the total enrollments between Cyprus and flon college um in the 1920 school year we had more than double the
number of completed courses um through Cypress College than we had at Fullerton um our school that work really closely with full with Cypress College um our students um just have a access to a variety of courses um not only after school but we also have classes available during the school day with Cypress College so that lends to a higher number of students being being able to take classes so we are in full recognition that each college has their own culture and approach to dual enrollment however we're also very aware of the inequities that those differences are starting to cause for our students um and our students are becoming more aware too as you have heard in some public comments in previous board meetings students are coming and asking like why aren't we getting the same
opportunity so I want to assure the board that our team is really working very closely with Dr Schultz the president of flon college um Dr Schultz is is very much on board with um what we want to do to expand to enrollment for our East Side schools and is very supportive um of what we're suggest testing Dr Schultz is in turn working with his staff to closely build their cap uh to build their capacity and to work to reduce the barriers that we have been facing in the past um with the goal of building a dual enrollment system that will meet the needs of students in ahsd but I do want to say with that said our team is not opposed to making changes as necessary so recently we have um made a decision to
reassign Savannah High School from flon college to Cyprus College to better meet the needs of the students at that campus and specifically the health careers Academy um we've done this in the past as well with Magnolia High School um we we do want you to know that these are not decisions that we take lightly um however we realize that is imperative that our students across the district have access to a robust dual enrollment program and that the opportunities are similar across our campuses and we are working to address them you can go goad and forward jar um so this slide demonstrates the growth of the high school of each individual High School site U this these are the sites that work with Cypress College currently so these numbers represented are unduplicated numbers um and these
are just the unduplicated numbers of students that have completed any dual enrollment course uh since the 16 17 school year so just to give you a total on that Cyprus high school has had 866 students complete a course Kennedy 73 4 Oxford 961 Magnolia 320 and Western 518 and so again to point out that each school has their own obstacles that we are working to overcome to increase the number of students accessing dual enrollment we've been working very closely with each site to identify the challenges that they are specifically having and working with them on ways to strategize um uh to build it and to support students at each of their campuses so some of these strategies um include um adding courses during the school day um act um connecting more CTE dual enrollment to
our existing Pathways and then specifically um targeting students in those Pathways to take those specific CT or course um CTE courses and then we're looking at offering more classes like English and math um during the school day to replace um a core class requirement for high school graduation so as an example example of some of that work in Oxford if you'll notice in 2018 Oxford had 111 students complete dual enrollment courses in 1819 we started embedding courses during their school day and so you can see that school year we jumped up to 420 students completing a course okay so that strategy of embedding is has been very powerful in the next few slides I will explain more about our embedded models so um so if you have questions I I hopefully I'll be able to
answer them in the next slides uh jarn go ahead and move forward so this slide demonstrates the grow of our growth of our high schools that work with flon college so again these are unduplicated numbers um since 16117 so Anaheim had 557 students Cella 406 Lera 417 Savannah 585 and alted um Gilbert specifically 56 students again each school has their own obstacles that we're working to overcome to increase the enrollment um for these students um the strategies we've been using so far with Fullerton College up until this point is that we're really working to make those CTE connections um connections to the site's exclusive Pathways um and to increase the number of transfer classes available so as an example to that Lera High School jumped from 101 students in 1819 to 206 students in 1920
and this was because of their exclusive pathway Visual and Performing Arts we added music classes um for the students to take and so students in band and choir are in The Ensemble classes with fleron college and there's a great partnership between the music teachers at Lera and the professors at flon College to work together to recruit and support the students so that again that strategy of connecting to the exclusive Pathways um has been favorable go ahead and go to the next slide Jaren so I want to explain a little bit about our embedded dual enrollment for you um so we have four models currently in place um all of them are with our Cypress College schools um we really believe um that one of the best ways to in increase participation and success is to
provide students the option to take it during their school day not as an extra class after school um our kids have many obligations after school whether they have sports they have jobs they have to care for younger siblings they have to help in the family business whatever that is and so we know that we want to make sure we can put it in their day to make that a little easier for them so we've piloted a few different models um the first example is is Oxford Academy so um when we first started the ab 288 or this this I was an assistant principal at Oxford and um and this was the first thing I asked like can we like try to get this during our school day because at Oxford we couldn't get kids to
sign up after school at all and you'd think an Oxford kid would go right after it right but they had too many things to do they just couldn't they just couldn't access it and so we started with the embedded models at at Oxford and so what's nice about Oxford is that their block schedule lends to dual enrollment very well because that they meet twice a week uh 85 minutes a three-unit college class needs to be meet about 85 minutes twice a week and so they fit right in right um at Oxford we offer a sing s Senior English course English 104 we're able to offer Mandarin to meet the needs of the community that was asking for Mandarin as a world language that we couldn't meet in ahsd and we rotate electives um English 104
is unique to Oxford um since Oxford has a 93% pass rate of the AP English Language exam in 11th grade it really didn't make sense for us to offer English 100 um because English 100 is equivalent to AP English Language and so students wouldn't be able to utilize that credit so English 104 meets a different requirement um General Ed requirement towards a ba degree so that's a unique need that we're meeting and serving um at Oxford Academy uh you can go and go to the next slide Jaren another unique thing that we are doing at Oxford is that we're embedding a course within a course and so an example of that is is that in ninth grade our students take a class called careers finance and technology and so what we uh started doing there
is that we would embed a one unit counseling course a career counseling course in that CFT course so if the Oxford class met three days a week one day a week the college professor would come and teach the ca career exploration in place of the high school teaching career exploration as part of the career's financing tech class so it was happening within um or it is happening within um the regularly scheduled uh ahsd class so with this option every ninth grade student in Oxford Academy is able to take a dual enrollment course and get a jump start on their um dual enrollment um experience the next slide is Magnolia so the next school we moved on to with embedded dual enrollment was Magnolia this model looks like um it's three semesters and we're actually going
to be upping that to four semesters next year but it's one cohort of students that moves each semester into each class and so they start with the cing 150 class they're moving into English 60 and then English 100 um what we did find with this that splitting up the English 60 and the English 100 and having them skip out on English 3 has actually been a little bit of a detriment to them in terms of being ready with the literature needed for um English 100 so next year we're going to be making this four semester so in 11th grade they'll take counseling and an elective and I think we'll be going with ethnic studies for this campus um and then they would take English 60 and English 100 so a four semester model over two
years am can I can I interrupt for a second sure yeah so I I think it's important that the board understands that all of this is cutting new ground in the state of California yes we're getting a lot of attention throughout the state in our partnership with Cypress College because you think about the old model where you graduate from one of our high schools and you go to the Community College you have to start with English 60 often times right before you take English 100 our kids are graduating from high school with English 100 already under their belts and that is that's huge you guys so uh kudos to the entire team yeah yeah it's been a it's it's been a really fun exciting experience getting this going so that's important to note one other
thing that's important to note is is as you've seen these these examples are with Cypress College um I'm really proud of the fact that our our district has a strong relationship with our unions right and one of the push backs that we have gotten initially from work in college which Dr Schultz is working to alleviate is they couldn't understand how our Unions would support something like this um when our unions in fact have been very supportive of this um it does not take jobs away from teachers right what it does is if in that example with the senior English if the senior English class is now offered via dual enrollment the teacher in our district who would have taught that can now be reassigned to teach something else in our district like freshman English and
that allows us to lower class sizes now with that additional section so it's really strategic on our end in terms of how we're using these extra sections and it is not impacting negatively teacher jobs it is still supporting the same work the staff and allocations have not changed and again kudos to um Grant and before him Dean Elder right who worked with us and saw the Forward Thinking Vision to make this happen and again FL College could understand how we could do this which is why they were pushing back but on that particular Point why would be that why would that be an issue for Pon College wouldn't that be an issue for us and not them it's a good question intering to make sure it's not an issue any longer yeah yeah that's part
of the challenge that we initially faced with Dr Schultz has been great he has been completely supportive of our vision what we're trying to do and he's working with his own internal piece to make sure that that can be moved forward for next school year yep exactly uh go ahead and go to the next slide jiren so the next school that we started with starting this year was Western High School so their model looks a little different and the reason why the models are different is that we're trying different strategies to see which one works best for students and then again also knowing that our campuses all have a little bit of a different culture each campus might need something a little different and so we're open to creating the model that works best for
each campus so for Western we targeted one cohort um senior year and they take we block first and second period and they take two classes in the fall and two classes in the spring so they would take one class Monday Wednesday one class Tuesday Thursday and then do that again in the spring and in this model they're getting the English 60 english 100 ethnic studies and the history of rock which is a VAP of course um so this because of covid and being virtual and not sure how the kids would handle the load we did scale back this one a little bit this fall we only started with English 60 but in the spring we are going to the two classes and next fall we do intend to imp implement the the full model of
all four classes you can go ahead and go to the next slide and then our last school we've added in is CVA Cambridge Virtual Academy so this school um we have developed a model where there's one course available every semester from 9th through 12th grade so conceivably if a student starts at at CVA in nth grade and they take this pattern um they would get 26 units of transferable college credit by the time they graduate and these are all classes that take the place of one of their High School classes and so um like in 10th Grade the world civilizations is their world history class 11th grade the US history class is their High School US history class and then in 12th grade English and math um the math class we um haven't had in
place with Cypress College but we finally got that one approved the math department got on board with us and so next fall we will have our first um math 120 course with Cyprus College so um so the numbers at CVA is starting out have been really good we have 31 students in the ninth grade counseling class 13 students in the 10th grade history history class three students in the 11th grade Sociology class and we have two seniors in English 100 um and that was our first pass with CVA so we're pretty excited about that um so moving forward um we've been working with every High School on sharing these models with them and asking them to think about which one will be best for their campus and so every high school now has um the
plan that they want to implement and so now um with Cypress College we just need to bring on Cypress High SCH in Kennedy High School and we're done um and then with Fullerton College we need to bring on all of our high schools but we're in the process of making our requests and and uh and seeing where we're where we're able to go with that but our goal is that next fall we will have embedded toal enrollment every High School um the other thing is that that we're trying to do is connect dual enrollment to CTE Pathways and so of the 22 Pathways we offer we currently have 11 that have um a dual enrollment connection uh we have um a a strong sequencing um for cyber security at Magnolia the computer science or um
program at Kennedy and biotechnology in Anaheim um all the other pathways are represented in single courses we don't have quite a a Continuum yet um and we also have other CT pathway courses that our students really enjoy like AJ administration of justice and the business courses and auto at Cyprus as well and so those also can be considered CT Pathways if student students um took a full sequence there uh go ahead and forward Jen so these are a little picture of the success rates of the last four years uh with each college so the success rates for student completion of a course uh with a c minus or better that's what success uh is defined as um is right around 90% for Cypress College and somewhere between 70 to 86% for flon college um again
uh we attribute those rates to some of the differences and approach by each college so for example at Cypress College um we have a system in place that we require every student to take account accounts in class first and that's an agreement that we've made with our district in Cyprus College and the benefit of this is is that the students learn about college expectations they develop their academic plan it helps them understand how to incorporate their AP coursework into the college coursework so they're not taking classes in areas they don't need um and we also o just believe that the counseling class is a very strong foundation for the dual enrollment coursework and it's a perfect way to engage a younger student in dual enrollment and students in special populations like students in special education
it's a it's a great jumping off point um also at Cypress College there is a team that's dedicated to dual enrollment and they have counselors that are dual enrollment counselors only and when the professor approves it the college counselor has access to their learning management system and their grad book and the they're able to monitor student grades and then connect with the high school counselor when a student isn't doing well so the intervention is early and we're able to save students and help them early in the process before it's too late or they've already failed the class so this again is one of the things that we're working with bton college on with Dr Schultz to implement a counseling class for the younger students um currently there's only been a class available for seniors as
they're transitioning to community College um we've also been working with the team to develop a more structured system of support to help identify um the struggling students and intervene earlier so that is one of our growth areas that we are working on with bton college go ahead and forward so overall the goals for the dual enrollment program um you know we know that in order to build a program that is increasing access for our students and supporting our students we need to have a coherent coordinated plan between our sites that district and the colleges like we all have to be working together on this in an agreement about what we're going to do so the system that we're building here in ahsd is focused on implementing a high quality program that scaffolds those supports to
help students succeed because zo enrollment is a powerful tool for access to higher education and it's an equity tool for our students to be able to access higher education so again the goals of our program s to include um embedded during the day dual enrollment at every high school campus um and so again the models we have in place have been shared everybody is working to select the model they want and we're making our requests with the colleges um our next goal is to have dual enrollment connected to every pathway um Again by doing this we are creating opportunities for students to um to gain those job skills earn certifications and to allow them to enter the workforce earlier with a good paying job so whether they want to go straight from high school to
the workforce or they want to attend college the ability to get get a good paying job right out of high school is increased by taking these courses in dual enrollment um also one of the elements of high quality CTE programs which is what a lot of our federal funding is based off of dual enrollment is a is a component of that so for us to continue to build those dual enrollment connections um only strengthens our ability to get Federal funding and to be able to create more opportunities for our students um another goal we have is to um offer one course in each agsy which is the general education transfer pattern for students so students that's first two years of college is the transfer right or the general education so our goal is to have
one course in each area um so if a student were motivated starting in ninth grade and taking a course every term from 9th to 12th grade they could graduate from high school with their AA degree and so um and so right now currently with flon college we we have six of the 13 against the areas represented represented and we've requested to add one more next year with the English 100 um with Cypress College we have eight of the 13 areas represented and we have commitments from Cypress College to add two more next year and so um so we're getting closer to our goal and then the last goal and it's a huge goal and maybe it's a crazy goal I'm not sure but my goal is that um by uh over the course of a
students High School career that we're getting 70% of our students to take at least one to enrollment course and I think we can do it through the use of our academic planning tool that we're training our counselors to utilize um by by intentionally planning this in intentionally connecting to our Pathways um I really believe that that we can meet that goal um by because it will become a priority for everyone so our vision this Vision um will drive our implementation the quality and the capacity of our program that and then that will increase also the demand for the student to take the courses so um that's all I have for you tonight so I really want to thank um the Ed division for um the opportunity to engage in this important work and assigning such
important work to to me I love doing it um and I want to thank the board for the continued vision and always striving to um have access and equity for our students in ahsd so I am open for questions I have a question for you sure on page one of the um presentation last one is students do not have to pass an exam to earn college credit does that mean they the the class they're taking they they don't have they don't have an exam like they would have in normal classes no what I what I mean is in comparison to AP where students might take an AP course and get an A but at the very end of it they still have to pass the AP exam where they may or may not get college
credit um the student if they pass the college Course and there might be exams in the course but if they pass the course they get the college credit and so they don't have to they don't have success but still have to pass a test at the end and maybe not get college credit okay uh next question on the high school data Cypress College it shows that Kennedy has decreased the last three years have you come up for a reasons why theyve shown the decline from 236 down to 177 continuously so so overall last year with the exception of Cypress High School all of our schools took a dip and I'm not exactly sure why because we offered more classes than ever um I I don't have an exact answer for you Mr O'Neal but um
what I um have been working on is trying to get an answer to that question and trying to figure out what are the barriers that are happening and what I really think it is is that we just have so many opportunities for our students and their attention is very divided and so we really really just need to do um a better job at just that academic planning piece and helping students understand where to fit it in so we can just continue to grow it I just think that they have a lot of things that they're working on I I think Mr O'Neal I mean that's a great question across the district you know this is um you know a cultural shift for our and our counselors have been really coming on board you know our
admin teams our teachers and as you know as you know people are pretty territorial about their own areas of expertise so um I I think we're going to see a shift uh overall and continued overall growth okay thank you um another question you mentioned right towards the end of your presentation about how a student if they took a course starting in ninth grade every every H period they could graduate with an AA um how does that impact or is does it impact uh The Pledge that we have so that's a great question so um we um have not um explored what that would look like in terms of the guaranteed transfer to UCI um through the tag program so I think as we Implement these these systems those are conversations we need to return to
our pledge partners and have um because that that that will likely be a reality that our students will get to that place and then we want to make sure they have a place to go so for now it's not it's not happening and so um but it's definitely possible that we need to that we need to start planning for it so it's a really great because if they if they graduated from high school and they graduate with a with an AA degree basically going from Community College you transfer to fouryear College correct that mean they would be applying in their senior year in November to transfer to a instead of to just apply uh into the next you know a four-year school yeah no I believe that they still would apply to a four-year school
as a freshman um but then the credits are applied and they their status gets reassigned to be sophomore junior depending on um how many credits they have so um so they are still considered a first-time freshman um in their application process okay yeah okay thank you you're welcome I have a couple of questions so I I mean my questions were pretty much related to uh this discrepancy between Cypress and Fon but looks like uh we have Dr Souls on board and uh we're moving forward with some changes that would hopefully result in many of these things taken care of yes I I specifically want to emphasize the the embedded model uh if we could advocate for the embedded model at at feton because I think there will be a lot of Anaheim high school students
who are impacted and I want to make sure that that's taken care of in that uh particular uh school and so here's I think I was also I also highlighted this problem with uh Kennedy High School and Oxford and Magnolia all kind of decreased in numbers in terms of taking dual emersion uh dual enrollment and this kind of relates to I know um and Maria and I were meeting with some students over I think it was last weekend and some of the students actually did bring up that issue which Mike just alluded to where you know some of them didn't know the fact that there were dual immersion or dual I keep calling dual okay dual enroll what you mean it's okay dual enrollment uh uh as an option for them right so if they
don't know they're not going to take it if you sell it to them uh and if it's pushed I am sure many of these students will take it right so I think that's a considered effort that we have to do on our end as H admin team to make sure that that's emphasized with our counselors and our teachers um and the the I think the final point that I have is it's not a crazy idea to have a 70% of a high high school students taking at least one dual enrollment course so kudos to you Amanda for not only a great presentation but for setting the bar High I am always about let's set the bar high enough and if we fail we are at least hitting closer to that bar rather than you know
having a low bar set so thank you for that and great I I the final question is I don't know if Mike or jiren could answer is there a mo there similar model which is been uh done by any of the other school districts around us no no there are we are leading in this area because it is difficult to change the culture both at the community college and inside the school district so um and you're and the issue with flon college too um the let me just interject I knew the answer but I wanted to say loud and clear that we the only one who had it out FR may I may I also just say too that actually when we look at the State of California is a little bit behind nationally in
dual enrollment um in terms of participation and access for students are at 10% of students nationally are engaged and only about 3% in the state of California are engaged in dual enrollment um but what we're doing with Cypress College as Mike was Mr mat was about to say like we are literally the only in the area and Stephanie tier and I actually present at different places about our model and it's drawing a lot of attention because because other people are wondering how do you do that and so um it is it is pretty special so and as a m that is something that I want to emphasize so that we could get Fon on board because I think this is a enormous experience for our kids so a couple things uh Mr Jabar I mean
I know that you're a graduate of Cypress College too so you can break but um these are really important points to for the board and to our community to understand in these Partnerships like for example Cypress College because we are going to be headed we are headed in declining enrollment we're headed to a deep Rec recession with Public's uh funding um as Dr freed mentioned we are the one District that's moving forward and preparing our kids for the world of work we know that our kids are going to have trouble getting jobs we are lining we're and that's why as Amanda said a lot of folks are interested in looking at us our high schools now are positioned where we can offer everything that's offered at the community college right based on these Pathways based
on whatever we're interested in and that's huge and I think that the potential is truly unlimited in these Partnerships number two we the cabinet uh have met with and I'm going back to Fullerton College and putting pressure on them we met with the chancelor uh Dr Marshall who also and Amanda presented some of these same uh figures to them and um we basically said Dr freed said look at if Fullerton College is not going to get on board we are GNA shift schools over we already have shifted Magnolia and now for next year we shifted Savannah and I think that put a lot of tension on them because they need to understand they cannot survive without us feeding into them and um you know and and uh Dr Schultz to his credit totally understands that
uh what's at stake uh because we will continue to push uh to shift our high schools over to Cypress College if we do not see movement from Flor and college right um Amanda I have a question now so much of getting the word out is so important I mean I remember as being a teacher if the teachers didn't get behind it or the counselors didn't get behind it then the word isn't there have we done any um training for our counselors on this whole dual enrollment stuff for them to thoroughly understand and then maybe refer students to this so what we have in place there's uh several things actually so we have a point person a point person counselor at every high school and we have monthly uh meetings with each college and we you
know are updating and teaching and all and whatnot they work with their teams but more importantly we're really emphasizing um the use of the academic plan and and utilizing and adding dual enrollment to course selection because every student engages in course selection every year to pick their classes for the next year right so adding that as one of the choices even if it's after school so students can understand what's available indicate that they want they want to be a part of dual enrollment and then you know they pick their specific class later on so that was a strategy we started last year um in last year's course selection adding it to the academic plan we just created a new academic plan template so as early as seventh grade asking students to plan that in to
some place in their High School um career um and to think about how they're going to um to engage with that and so so and then we hit it with the master schedule process we hit it with our CTE planning so we have several Avenues where we are um talking about it teaching about it expecting it um and the and the language that that Carlos and are really working with our sites to to switch is to say to tell our students like at Anaheim high school we are College and Career ready and so that means we're working towards meeting a through G we're going to complete a career pathway and we're going to take a du enrollment course so let's plan that into your academic plan so that's the work that we're doing with our
counselors to um to use that language speak in those in those those narratives with students and to um to not be like well do you want to do this are you interested but just say we expect it and so let's plan it so that's kind of the the what we're working on right now so okay yeah very good thank you yeah Amanda you may have said it but I may have missed it are all of the dual enrollment classes at the at the high schools or are some only at the college so with Fullerton College so right now everything's virtual so in virtual world we're virtual but Norm um Cypress High Cypress College has some at the college campus and some at the high school campuses so it really depends on what it is so
like the auto classes and like the CPR and Kinesiology the more Hands-On classes are at the college um but the other classes are at the high school campuses for Fullerton College everything's at the high school campuses um we haven't entered into having courses at the college yet um we do think that it's important at some point if students do take multiple dual enrollment classes to eventually get to a place where they are taking at least one or two on the college campus to help them with that transition into higher ed even more so so at the high school campus they're just engaging in the college level coursework but then as they get older to be able to get to the college campus helps them even more with their Readiness when they enter higher education so
so those are some of the um other goals that we have to to create those natural transitions from the high school to the college thank you you're welcome Amanda could you repeat the the high school data from Cypress College uh yeah so the the total numbers anarie please uh yeah so Cypress high school has had 866 students Kennedy 734 Oxford 961 Magnolia 320 and Western 518 over the last four years yeah I appreciate that um I just want to thank you for highlighting um the the opportunities that we're learning as we go and you're shifting you know shifting Savannah over thank you so much that as Al mentioned students are pretty Savvy and they still they understand going on and so um they were asking for that and thank you for listening to them you're
amazing and we're so lucky to have you thank you really appreciate that and Marie yes I would like to say something all right okay I I just want to thank you for this wonderful presentation over my lifetime I have seen Trends in education like many areas of life and some have been dilus in my view but I can tell you this dual enrollment I think it started with a parent who uh at Oxford in our first uh class and um the parent also taught at Cyprus and I saw this began back many many years ago and to have seen it growing such as it has is remarkable and I think it's one of the positive trends that we're seeing in education and I'm just so grateful for what you've done and it's obviously been a
work of art for many of you to put your imprint your ideas and and bring it forward so I just can tell you I love it I want to thank you and wish you continued success thank you Mrs Smith we appreciate that thank you thank you just uh thank you Katherine I would just also uh as soon as we can present this to our feeder our feeder elementary schools because they the sooner they learn about this the sooner they can jump on board with us I I I think they need to learn this and then um Carlos are we embedding uh our dual enrollment information with our parents are we embedding that education piece um it's spoken of in terms of our pledge are in general um we can I know our coffee chats our
faces talk about it in in detail at their sites in terms of their different formal and informal conversations but um I mean we again we can we can embed it it'll just uh it'll be additional module time and well we being creative we yeah definitely have to make an an emphasis an intentional you know promotion with our parents I think as Mike said I I'm echoing now um that uh it it's a shift in in the way that you know parents know how to get through school to get their students to college you know the AP uh you know courses and um this is better this is so much better than that sorry a teachers but we love you but I mean this is doable for for everybody that's what I love about it this
is for all of our all of our students so um let's move on before I get myself into trouble items of business uh resolutions 11.1 resolution number db-5 covid-19 effects on participation in ex extracurricular curricular activities minimum academic standards action item second a second do we have a presentation comments on this no okay all right uh roll call vote Mr O'Neal hi Mr Jabar hi Miss piery hi Miss Smith I and I vote I 11.2 resolution number 2020/21 db- 07 alternative fuel School Bus replacement program grant funding program application through South Coast Air Quality Management District action item second moved and seconded this is an action item roll call vote Mr O'Neal this is fantastic for the district I thank you Mr Jabar I miss piy I and I want to say that we're getting
all the bells and whistles on these buses that included the air conditioning the camera you know and I think oh and and other stuff and so I think this is phenomenal we really lucked out three big buses yes we did Miss uh Smith a grateful I and I vote I as well thank you 113 board policy multiple policy second reading action item [Music] can I um is there possibility is there a possibility that we could actually pull 11 uh 113.5 11.3.3 and 11.3.2 I unfortunately I was doing some research and I couldn't complete my res search is there a possibility that we could uh uh move that for maybe the next board meeting to approve sure uh we just have to amend the motion all right so I'll amend the motion for and we've already
crossed off and dropped 11.34 so I move for board policies 11.3.1 2 and three and 11.3 8 n and 10 okay do I get a second second okay all right did you want to speak to that or just moving on I just do we need to to stipulate that we're leaving out the others or do does it if no by by by lack of action they'll just carry forward to next month okay very good thank you Carl okay uh Mr O'Neal hi Mr Jabar hi Miss piy hi Miss Smith I and I vote I 114 agreement sge Consulting Engineers action item removed second moved and seconded uh I had a question but I'll just I'll uh I'll call Patty all right um Mr let me just clarify something I know uh there was a question
asked and I think the answer was given in terms of what the rigging system was but I I just want to make sure there was some concerns in the past about the I don't know if it was regarding the rigging system or the lighting system at Anaheim so I want to make sure that whatever decision that we're making uh that we include our theater and dance teachers in terms of input just to get their input if there if it is necessary uh and even the staff will work there before we move forward or whatever in terms of uh action that we're taking that we are including their input first thank you but isn't this basically Al just to make sure the rigging is is secure this has nothing to do with improving I I my
understanding was it's just to make sure it's not going to fall out of the ceiling or wherever it's anchored it's phase one phase two and phase three right so we're in phase one so I I think let's make sure that we put out the call especially that we're in a virtual setting uh with the phase one so that way if there are concerns they could bring it up and then when we move into phase two and phase three we will at least have that input and move forward and Colleen's nodding her head yes yes yes for all of that all righty uh Mr O'Neal hi Mr Jabar hi Miss piery hi Miss Smith hi and I vote I 11.5 agreement Optimum Energy Design LLC dust collector replacement action item so moved second move to seconded
U Mr O'Neal hi Mr Jabar hi Miss py I and I'm assuming that because it's only orange view all the others are okay so in other words this one this one wasn't oh okay yes correct and Miss Smith I and I vote I 116 agreement Optimum energy design c h vac assessment and recommendations action item moved second second okay move to seconded calling for the vote Mr O'Neal hi Mr Jabar I miss piy I miss Smith I and I vote I 117 agreement Petra Structural Engineers Inc ction item so moved second moved and seconded um Mr O'Neal hi Mr Jabar hi Miss pery hi Miss Smith hi and I vote I 118 revised board policy 71105 parenthesis 61 46.1 High School graduation requirement first reading this is an information item memorandum M president is is
there a presentation or anything on on that one no okay 11.9 memorandum of understanding mou Southern California permanent Medical Group scpmg action item some second moov to seconded um Mr O'Neal by Mr Jabar I miss piery hi Miss Smith hi and I vote I 1110 agreement cyber Security Services Orange County Superintendent of Schools ocde action item so moved second I have a question go ahead so um I think Eric is here right so I just wanted to find out about what kind of services are we going to be receiving with this uh particular um action item I know we're spending 8,000 oops so the the the county is uh has hired a a cyber security architect um that will cover all all school districts and so um the uh the architect will do something called
the penetration test um where they basically attach a device and and try to um compromise our Network um and then provide us feedback on how to improve our security they'll also work with us um in developing uh policies and proced procedures like incident um response manuals look at our uh security practices and and our tools and make recommendations and um so to the extent they can do that across all 30 districts um that those are the services that uh that the architect will provide okay so it's just a matter of them penetrating and giving us the necessary support because uh there was an idea not probably about a couple years ago where UCI launched or UCI actually brought uh uh not only school districts but also cities together to see if they could form a
jpa uh in order to kind of bring together these type of resources because I know cyber security is pretty expensive so um I don't know where that initiative is at at this point um maybe we could do some research but I would also see Eric I don't know if we as a district have taken a look at costs associated with this and then maybe possibly creating a jpa if our Feer districts are interested in terms of forming a uh jpa to kind of really focus on cyber security itself because I'm reading a lot of Articles coming out of uh different states where you know folks hijack the system and then it gets really costly for us to get out of it so what are your thoughts on it and is there anything any thought given
to that so we have I haven't heard um anything from the UCI jpa um for a good probably 18 months um I'm not sure if it's proceeded beyond the inions and then with with our the county trying to do that on a countywide basis um and the the feeder districts that we have are also participating in in a cyber architect um services so there's there's kind of two tiers there there will be the districts that elect to pay for the service the County's basically doing a pass through based on enrollment size um if a district elects not to do it then there the array of services um are not as robust as if we go forward with an item like this and it's for cyber security it's a pretty nominal amount um compared to what
a what a professional that dedicated to to cyber security okay so explore it'd be pretty expensive yeah explore and find out and see if not you know maybe uh the County of Orange could I think County of Orange is looking at something like that too so thank you so uh just along those lines uh how I mean we have to trust it's the county but um if they mess up our system we have backup correct that's correct okay and we we we actually had that conversation with uh the gentleman's uh um Kevin and we've talked with Kevin about how they would place this to scan our Network so it's it's a device that's basically like in a scanning mode and um um we would take preventive ma measures to uh um make sure that it's
it's not um in impacting Network Services okay we trust you with third party vendors all right fantastic okay uh Mr O'Neal hi Mr Jabar hi Miss piery hi and Miss Smith hi and I vote I 1111 agreement and Marie did was 11.9 pulled because I don't see that we did that it's a information item only no it says action item here on 11 11 seconded it and voted on it I'm sorry 11.9 yes we did okay thank you thank you for asking thank you uh 111 agreement T-Mobile Inc project 10 million action item second Al do you have any question yeah uh I just wanted to uh so the 100 gigabyte of data per year what does that look like for a uh a student um er I think you're on mute or we can't
hear you [Music] try I could I can provide some data on that um from the the information that we've had with our existing cell phones the vast majority of our students that are using our hotspots um the the 100 gigabytes per year would uh would provide sufficient access throughout the year based on we we have the 1 million um hotpots that we've had for we're in our third year and then with the T-Mobile we have devices going back as early as April um so there there are students that would definitely use up that 100 gab um well for a year but the M vast majority of the students um are on track to be at or under that amount so these 2,650 units are um extra right so the the the number of units is
the uh the the total amount that T-Mobile has approved the the school district to receive so we could receive up to uh that amount oh okay so we we have not received it yet okay I remember uh you had given given us a kind of options of what needs to be done and what we where we are at in terms of hotspots and Wi-Fi connectivity so this was included in that list um this is this would be part of it as the one million so this this this pro project or this uh um yeah this program I should say is replacing the 1 million project thank you that's it okay call for the vote Mr O'Neal hi Mr Jabar hi Miss piery hi Miss Smith I I vote I 1112 contract Los Angeles County Office

reports I know some of you have them okay is that me yes thank you madam chair so I'd like to congratulate the board in the district on our sixth uh Golden Bell award in five years this is uh honoring our award-winning aim program so kudos to Scott Rendell and his team uh MJ and paty and thank you to Dr Renee Bryant for writing it up but uh I'll bring the Bell yay plus it came with a $1,000 uh scholarship to be donated to the aim program so congratulations to the entire team and to the uh Board of Trustees thank you super I have a quick update if I if I may um so as the board is aware we have been progressing beautifully I think with our ethnic studies task force we've been meeting regularly
and we're getting closer uh to bring recommendations forward to you and goes of course Carlos Hernandez has done a great job facilitating uh and leading that group but I have to say at our last meeting we had a handful of students that came to present I think they also had the opportunity meet with trusty Jabar and board president Randle tro and and they just blew us away so I want to give a quick shout out to these kids because some of them are current students in our district and a few I think are alumni of our district but they were just amazing and not were they not only were they able to keep up with all the adults in in the in the conversation but they actually brought resources and uh supports to our team
through their own research and homework they actually met with assemblyman Jose Medina so they were just absolutely amazing uh so I can't say enough good things about these students but I want to read off their names if that's okay uh anha Alicia zti Lyn H Jella Gamboa siia menesis Freda goia Alejandra Hernandez Daniela Peña Zena gashi Lena win and Samantha bugman there's also a student named Zoe but I don't remember her last name I couldn't get it so if you're watching I also want to give you uh mad respect as well so again great great job I just wanted you to know um how amazing they were and soon we will be providing updates regarding both our ethnic studies and math task force that we're working through so that's my update Happy Thanksgiving everyone thank
you Dr freed uh wonderful to acknowledge those students they worked really hard and and they blew uh Mr Jabar and I away too out of the out of the park um anybody else have a board I mean um sorry a cabinet report I would just like to wish all of our employees a fantastic uh Thanksgiving and uh and a great great week next week and I Echo that that sentiment thank you alrighty um Mr O'Neal yes your board report sir oh board report very Bor um College and Career Fair uh again fantastic uh kudos to everybody that put that on um look look forward to maybe maybe even have an iners next next year um T sister city meeting not too much going on there uh because of everything has been cancelled and I just
wish everybody a happy and safe Thanksgiving stay away from everybody have a small one and be safe thank you thank you Mr O'Neal Mr Jabar yeah uh I just want to say attend of the Roop meeting uh but I I want to highlight the students again thank you jiren for going over their Nam so I don't have to but I wanted to uh give special kudos to an for uh really leading the group uh diversify ntion diversify our nation uh and those students really I think an Marie mentioned uh blew us away and uh I know that they were bringing a lot of resources to the ethnic studies uh meeting that they were doing on Tuesday so I'm sure that you guys were blown away too as said but that really made me proud of
the work that we are doing at Anaheim Union High School District I think uh we are developing great leaders and I really saw probably all of the folks who on that uh Team uh at some point in time running for School Board running for city council running for State because they were very very sharp uh not only in presenting their facts but also uh advocating on behalf of what they were there at the table for so uh I want to give a huge huge kudos to all of them and hopefully uh when this pandemic is done uh regardless when it is I would love to meet them in person just so that uh we could you know acknowledge them at a meeting um I also had the opportunity of meeting with some parent groups who
were concerned about certain aspects of uh uh you know coming back to school and the uh the uh the bringing back teachers so those were good meetings a good input meetings so I'm very very happy about those uh and kindness award are my boss supervisor dut CH4 District 4 um awarded kind kindness award so it was is perfectly fitting uh hopefully what we can do as a district is I know that he only give Awards kindness award for folks who are representing in his cities uh but maybe for the next year uh I don't know if I asked that last year but for next year we could forward some of our kindness nominees uh to that process uh I think you know they could be recognized at a county level for the work that they've
done and uh also receive a certificate and a pin and if they are the city's nominee they get a cool award and get get highlighted with a video so thank you very much and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you not only on this call but everybody watching uh we have a lot to be thankful and uh Happy Thanksgiving thank you Mr Jabar Miss piery okay it's hard to remember over the past month I mean at first I didn't think I have done anything but looking at my calendar I guess I have okay I attended one of the first well the the ethnic studies meeting after uh our last board meeting but I failed to meet to make the uh let's see the one on Tuesday uh I have to tell everybody this is really neat
on Tuesday I was writing up to the La Mission to deliver a Suburban full of food um one of our prior students who went to catella high school heard about the need at the mission and he kind of started spreading the word and collecting money he and another gal collected $1,700 and then he wanted to make the money go as far as they could so they asked my daughter who had been his teacher if she would take him to Sam's Club so she did well she didn't realize that he had a little car and that her car would be the one transporting all this stuff so I went with her but I have to shout out to him I don't know his last name she calls him Mo but he was a graduate I think
he graduated like 10 years ago from catella but I just you know he did a really good thing just on his own not part of any real organization and so this is what one of our prior students has done and they did a great job so so that's why I didn't go to the other ethnic meeting on Tuesday so but I did go to um one of the opening of schools task force and I also went to a um csba meeting uh that was held and that was interesting where you know from the some of the other districts around and csba it was it was put forth by Jay Justin our csba rep and then um oh I attended the principal's meeting for a little bit um I had to uh leave before it was
over but um I wanted to see what they were talking about when they talked about compassionate grading and what have you so that was I I wish I could have stayed for the whole thing um and then that's about it um doesn't seem like much but other than getting tons of emails and uh texts from some of the different parents and teachers um I want to say to everybody I hope you have a very good safe Thanksgiving week um I intend to run away to my river house and isolate there so I hope it'll be warmer so Happy Thanksgiving everyone thank you Miss piery Miss Smith I would like to share with you was a quick story I uh needed a new battery in my car and I told my husband I was running to
the district office and he said well why don't you stop at AutoZone and you can get a new battery so a young chap was putting a new battery in my car and I said to him you make that look so easy you're so facil and he told me that he learned it in autoshop and I said ' where did you go to school and he Saidi graduated from Savannah in 19 and I'm going to college right now and I remember a trend years ago where we were getting rid of these programs of metal shop auto shop wood shop and I always said it was a terrible Trend and now this young man is appreciating and using the skills he learned learned at Savannah and he's taking to college and I said what are your what's
your pathway in college and he said I want to become a mechanical engineer and it's a beautiful story because I know from my own experience that these kinds of things that we learn cook in cooking class sewing class we take through our life so when I came home I asked my husband who built a formula Jr race car when he was in medical school in Indianapolis and he and a classmate who built it with him raced it at Indianapolis and when I came home I asked him to put uh air in my tires so I know these skills can last a lifetime and I'm grateful for much this Thanksgiving that we live in a great country called America and that we are great and wonderful human beings and so my gratitude at Thanksgiving is for
all those wonderful people that surround us in the Anaheim High School family and in our inner community and our outer Community thank you one and all thank you Miss Smith uh I attended um my gasela meeting uh last night my ROP meeting uh attended a Personnel commission meeting I met with our Auditors uh I attended the opening of school's task force and the uh ethnic studies um task force meeting where the students were presenting uh and uh I sat while uh and and and looked and smiled while Michael accepted our uh additional Award with our um our electrical JC uh folks and um I did the uh Mig course and so now I'm an actual Master's in governance graduate yay hooray so uh it's it was a it was it's grueling um they had about
five courses and there are four hours each and had to kind of Juggle that uh while I was doing other things too but um uh I'm very thankful that uh I still have a brain that I can capture and learn um but it's just I think it's a wonderful thing to uh accomplish um as board uh electives every year we have a chance to uh hone in our skills and um and uh and and get an upgrade uh as you might say um every year when we do the aec um uh uh convention uh with the school boards Association if you think about it school board members are the only elected officials who really can um you know can can um uh get a get educated on governance and get governance training and so I
think it's pretty amazing and very lucky to uh have gone through this course I waited eight years because I didn't want to travel to Sacramento or uh San Diego to do it um the courses were going to be held in in ceritos so um I took advantage of it and then Co hit and so uh everything went um online so uh very very lucky for that um moving on we are uh meeting um our next meeting well not it won't be our next meeting but Tes uh our regular meeting is December 15 and any suggested agenda items at this time I do um I would like to suggest that the board discuss um material that came to the school board from Oxford Academy and there are concerns by the Oxford Academy Korean parent Association and
the Oxford Academy Chinese parent Association and I am very distressed that we're dividing ourselves that we don't all think of ourselves as Americans and we have a PTSA that all can join at Oxford and I would like this brought up um at this time we are working on ethnic studies to help bring us all together to understand each other and our different cultures and based on my thoughts here I would love to have the board think this through because I find this uh very difficult to accept I'm not quite sure what exactly it is Kathy so I I would love to support you as a second but I'm not really sure what you're asking for so unfortunately I can't I don't know what it is so the these are groups that uh form uh you
know they're they're not really part of the school these are parents that do this separately so I'm not sure Katherine if really that's within our um jurisdiction to do that to to you know tell them that they can form or not form that's my understanding you know on campus I I I don't think anybody's meeting on campus right now but don't think they meet on campus but if we were not in covid and school was normal would be meeting on campus to me it's exclusionary they're exclusive that we can't all meet and discuss the same issue as parents of of kids in the same school I find it offensive well I I don't know what their Charter is what their goal is um I think the school district would have to review what what type
of organ organization it is because we do have certain uh guidelines to go by and in approving uh individuals or groups to meet on the campus um so you know I I I don't know how to respond well I never knew about it until I read this material that came to me today and I mean if if you're referring to the emails that came through today I could just say that Kathy any organization any group of folks have the freedom of right to go ahead and form an organization and represent and advocate for themselves so I I wouldn't be against it I would basically very well support an organization if they're actually forming to advocate for what they believe in and if if you're talking about the Chinese American parents and the Vietnamese American parents
if they have an organization they're planning on advocating on behalf of students so there wasn't a second on that is what I'm hearing my question would be why why would they not be all members of the PTSA and discuss the issues that they're concerned and and want to uh to discuss why can't that all be under one organization why are we fing ourselves that's a question to ask them and I will yeah Kathy and I think I I need to go back and look at what you know the email you're speaking of but I think it was just a group who call themselves parents and you know were I mean I don't recall exactly but I but I do think and agree with the fact that this is an outside group they formed their own
little group and their and their concerns so that they're not an official group as far as the school district is concerned so that and then I don't think we have any jurisdiction over them because that's you know it's it's like some of your religious groups that form and come and and express their opinion so I don't think it's something we can really discuss yeah so uh there wasn't a second on that so we are going to go back into uh closed session we have one more item to discuss okay now do we go back to the phone number that we used before or can we can't stay on this uh particular close session I'm going to have to find
