second year all students get a fruit or vegetable to try three days a week this means that students get a healthy snack that the school provides us with the fruit that we get is good by the end of the day all the fruit we get is gone improving our School attendance is one of our goals this year some of the things that we are doing to encourage students to come to school is attendance challenges with rewards for the students when we meet the goal for example one month where we met the goal students were invited into the cafeteria to watch staff members eat bugs they eat worms ants and grasshoppers to the amazement of students this past week of school we had an F Elf on the Shelf scene each morning greet students as they
arve to school one scene was the elf in our school mascot Road Runner having a snowball fight another scene was the elf fishing for C fish crackers with Gummy Worms gummy worms we think these scenes made students want to come to school to see what the elf was up to Saturday school is is offered at ranchel ver I have attended and liked that they gave us breakfast and fun learning activities throughout the day Red Ribbon wig is an opportunity about saying no to drugs and alcohol teachers use the week to teach students about the dangers of drugs I really liked dressing up as Ariana Grande on be a star saying no to drugs day we got to dress like a movie star we also had other dress of days to celebrate during the week at
ran at ranal FR we have several family and student events to involve the community Grandparents Day math day and night and Holiday Program are some examples a fall festival is an annual annual annual annual sorry event at Rancho ver centered around Halloween time this year we kicked off our school day with with a Halloween parade kit parents were invited to watch a show off our costumes classroom representatives were entered into the costume contest there and there were several winners selected the night event is family friendly there was a lot of fun games and food music and cool costumes there were along with cool cars that were decorated in preparation for for our partici participation with the youth TR truth and Community School surveys student leaders presented to us they talked about when we would take

coolers also new this year are two jobs one is done by Miss Amber every first grader goes to see her every week and practices phonics with her the other new job is to work on student intervention for attendance and academics Miss Jen hosts the monthly attendance activity to celebrate excellent attendance so far we have had a glow-in-the-dark dance party bookmark making ornament making and for everyone who has demo tardies in December get we get to have a movie date in January this year we have dedicated teachers for art music and stem here are some examples of artwork and art Concepts worked on by Sandia students so far this year in art our music students have studied Rhythm and percussion and even sing Russian at our Winter concert we have also added time in our maker
space with all kinds of experiments and our sixth grade steam Fair team in one of our talented authors won third place medals at the district science fair we have also enjoyed getting to know our mascot better in the form of our ASB Leed Shadow who made a guest appearance at our first ever Sandia at the stadium our Middle School elective program continues to expand this year by adding crafty Creations which you are receiving tonight as a thank you as well as our new stagecraft class which supports our thriving theater program which I am lucky to be a part of adding to all these new opportunities the staff has been ho been hosting family engagements activities from our traditional Harvest Festival in October to our second annual Kenny Kane Lane holiday event to our first ever
family literacy night in November where we we gave away over 300 books to our upcoming events like family night in February all of these events have been supported by our new parent poer group Paw Patrol in our school's PTO these parents help with every event and also have calendared structured and recesses and activities for the second half of the Year teach things like tortilla making embroidery and games it's not just inside of our school that is changing the grown-ups worked on our drop off and pickup traffic making it safer for everyone and more importantly we are getting new classrooms for our TK students there is some so much more happening at Sandia that we don't have enough to time to tell you about tonight but on behalf of Sandia Wolfpack we invite you to visit

able to see that in such young people um I was totally excited to hear about your fresh fruits and veggies three days a week um I think that's amazing that you guys tried pomegranates that could be scary um but just that you guys have access to that um is wonderful um I look forward to as a board member visiting sites I would be very interested in coming on that day so I can see that actually happening I think that's cool so thank you so much Mrs Buchanan all right I know we were just here a week ago so I will I don't have a lot but I do want to thank our am speakers you guys all did so fantastic um and I'm glad to see the picture of the real live Elf on the
Shelf because I did see that online um a couple days ago one of my friends was dropping her kids off and posted it so it's adorable um earlier this week I did have the honor of attending operation recognition uh which is the county Awards uh the county Awards diplomas to Veterans from World War II the Korean war or the Vietnam War who were drafted and as a result were unable to graduate high school and get their diploma um in particular uh there was just this phenomenal presentation by Payton Brown uh and her she's a junior in high school about her great-grandfather Marvin Minter um but thanks to her outstanding research and working with the VA um Mr Minter not only received his high school diploma but also was awarded an honorary associates degree to sardino
Valley College and to see his daughter um who was Miss Brown's grandmother just cry knowing that her father was given this honor um posionous Le but it was just an amazing sight to to be there and see that so it was a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by all of those that serve and I do want want to encourage our students to take time to research your own family histories um and consider submitting your family servicemen who may never have completed their diploma um as a result of those three Wars that I mentioned um it is a meaningful way to honor their legacy and contributions on a lighter note I have to express my disappointment that our principles tonight are not dressed in the same festive attire that they were at the budget committee

away toys and food and and I have to tell you it is it gives me such honor to be able to be of service uh to people who otherwise won't have anything for their children and and as we go out to celebrate this um holidays I hope we keep in mind that there will be people who will spend it in a shelter and there will be people who will have no place to live and there will be people who will have no food to eat and so as we celebrate let us keep them in our thoughts and prayers but above all I wanted to give my final speech today as your board president and I took the time to actually write it and usually I don't write speeches I I read from my I go
from my mind and I look at the crowd and it helps me so but this time I decided I'm going to write it so here we go as I step down from my role as president of this board I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported and worked alongside me this past year it has truly been an honor to represent the children and families of our community there are so many unsung heroes within our district who deserve recognition from the bus driver who ensures that our children arrive safely at school to the custodial staff who maintain our campuses to the cafeteria workers who provide nutritious meals daily often while accommodating NuMe numerous dietary needs each of you plays a vital role in our success I also want

don't have any recognition do kie do we have any comments uh public comments uh we do we have one this evening thank you okay Casey Maldonado good evening school board members my name is Casey Maldonado and our youngest daughter attends sitting bow Academy she's had special needs since she was an infant she's always had an equivalent of an IEP since infancy when she started kindergarten last year at cting Bow she was receiving all the services she needed this included 450 minutes a week of time with pushin support in the classroom as well as 60 minutes per day in a pullout SI class at the end of kindergarten her annual IEP was held and we received the offer of fape which included the team agreeing that both push and support and pull out Sai support were
both still in the best interest for Charlotte my husband and IED I AP in good faith based on what we had discussed as an i AP team when first grade started the teacher reviewed the I AP and let me know that there was no pushing supports listed in the IEP I requested copies of her 23 and 24 IEPs from Mrs Bean the psychologist at cing Bull and found out that 400 excuse me ma'am um I'm just gonna um inform you it's okay to um explain what happened but please refrain from using the names of people okay thank thank you very much um and found the 450 minutes weekly of push in support had been removed from the current IEP the IEP still stated and I quote the team agrees that the most appropriate placement is
to be pushing support in a general education classroom and specialized academic instruction in a separate setting in a pull out program however there was no push in minutes listed on her I in her Services no one at any point in the meeting had informed us that the push in support would be removed had they done so I would not have signed I called for an addendum mid October via email it wasn't scheduled until the end of the month during the meeting I was told by the psychologist that she had no idea what happened with those minutes because she didn't attend that IEP basically told me I had to uh I was so out of luck she also said that the special ed teacher was out uh that wasn't that was present for the April meeting
was out on on a medical reason I requested the missing minutes to be put back into the IP s since discussed prior to the meeting or during the meeting and again um rather than fixing the obvious mistake I was told by the psychologist in a rather condescending manner that we would have to schedule it to include the principal in a decision like that I also pointed out to the team that another Student's name was on my daughter's IEP when what services she received clearly confidentiality was broken here they were quick to offer her to be moved to another classroom my daughter has a diagnosis of childhood aaxy of speech I don't know if you know what that is but she knows what she wants to say but her muscles and her mouth do not let
her always say it and she is often unintelligible so I didn't feel it was right to move her out of a class that she's uncomfortable in who somebody who understands her so another IEP was scheduled and it was metion that the budget was there was no funds for to pay for my daughter's push and support it took me getting in hold of Mr Wheeler and um we had another IEP meeting in which she fixed it I still haven't sign the IEP meeting because or the IEP itself because I just feel like I need more time to look at it um I would like to take the psychologist off of my daughter's case because I don't trust her anymore I I feel like she just wants to remove services from my daughter and I don't feel
that's appropriate there's no reason why this should have happened no reason I should have had to take time from work for meeting after meeting four different times most importantly my daughter should have not had to lose nearly half a school year for services while these meetings continued on if someone could have just owned up to their mistakes and fixed it I wouldn't be standing here today bringing this to your attention attention thank you board members thank you very much thank you board comments Renee long Longshore sticky button um as a mom I just want you to know that you've been heard and um I appreciate you bringing this to us so that we could hear you Mrs Buchanan Mr rley nothing further uh somebody will look into your case thank you for coming TR Nelson
I just want to acknowledge that um current assistant principal at Sandia Academy is in the audience and um he will be leaving us to to take a principal position in Victor Elementary School District at Challenger um congratulations Reed on that um wonderful new [Applause] position all right it is recommended that the Board of Trustees discuss and take action on the following items annual organizational meeting in accordance with educational code section 5 0 17 35143 and 7200 subsection C subsection 2 and subsection a requiring governing boards hold an annual organizational meeting within 15 days commencing with and including the second Friday in December to elect a president of the board Clerk of the board the name of a trustee and an alternate who will serve as a representative at the annual meeting of school and Community

period in which organizational meetings of school districts County offices of education and Community College districts can be scheduled in non-election years the law now allows these meetings to be scheduled any day in December but no later than December 20th I need a motion to approve the 2025 2026 meeting schedule I'll move the item I'll second it any discussion we have the calendar already all in favor I I I okay approved the recommendation of the administrative hearing chairperson effective immediately ar4 2024 to 2025 all the way to AR N I need a motion I'll move it a second all in favor I I I okay it is recommended that the Board of Trustees consider approving a number of agenda items as a consent list consent items are routine in nature and can be enacted in one
motion without further discussion this procedure conserves meeting time for a full discussion of significant issues consent items to be approved in one motion uh one through four that is the shortest we've ever had I'll also move that item I'll second that all in favor I I any you opposed um do you have any future any members of the board have any future items no not for 20124 next regularly scheduled board meeting is Thursday January 23rd 2025 at 5:00 p.m. educational support center conference room with a new president and a new Clerk there being no further business to come before the Board of Trustees it is recommended that the meeting be adjourned I need a motion I'm a second all in favor I I
