I would like good evening members of the board and District Representatives I am reaching out via email to speak with you because the board has suspended in-person meetings the reason why is what I would like to address with you I just got off the phone with the vas's president Dr Christy Croft I have to admit I could only hear or understand about half of what she said in between gasping for breath you see christe was infected with covid-19 over winter break spending Christmas in the hospital while fighting for her life she reached out to me to help her write a message to the board but I declined deciding instead to write a message from myself about listening to her worry about members of Auda as long as the board meets virtually it is completely insulting

if a return to in-person school is being considered excuse me this sounds harsh and I am not prone to indulging in Conflict causing statements but this is the truth when abusd chose to close schools and the various cohorts one of the rumors I heard was the opened elementary schools could no longer staff their in-person classes because too many teachers were out let me assure you no member of ab budha thinks distance learning is a better option for our students everyone of us would rather be in person interacting with students helping them learn and grow as social beings there has been a lot of discussion about students mental health but how do you think their mental health would be knowing they might have carried covid-19 to their families from school or to school from their homes

and putting the adults in their lives at risk every generation has something that they have had to overcome as children as a group mine was being a latch key kid years might have been cold war drills or those younger of a younger generation active shooter drills and indeed active shooter situations all of these things cause undue stress for those children who lived this children are resilient and this will mark this generation but they will survive it as I spoke with Christie she stressed that she would not wish covid-19 on her worst enemy she described a health system that is overwhelmed in the 36 hours she was admitted to St Mary's she did not see a doctor she could not get them to administer her regular medicine she had to Monitor and administer her own oxygen

in between tears and gasps she explained that there were no support members to help nurses manage the ward where she was patients in folding chairs and hallways patients unable to get a drink of water or receiving food when the hospitals are unable to care for their Community we as public servants owe our community to help contain this outside threat even if it is just a virus this virus is anything but just please protect the members of our community by keeping our schools closed until this pandemic is under control thank you Jessica kolie thank you do you have another one we do not have any more thank you superintendent's comment the first comment I would like to do is um make sure that um anybody watching knows that this is School Board recognition month and um

we I've commented before when people have retired from Schoolboard or join the school board that it is a service um that people take on and it it takes a life of its own and so I just want to recognize our board members for um doing the service for students in this community community and um we appreciate you and I will repeat that comment at our next board meeting because it is also in January um secondly I would like to um update you regarding um any information that has been provided um as of late Friday um the governor did a press release um not announced to school districts per se that he had a new um safe schools reopening plan um there are no details at this point other than there is a checklist that will

be provided to school districts that will allow us to apply for some State funding which will align us with some federal funding as well um two different windows for those um dates are February 1 there will be the first application which is very tight timeline based on um where we are today um and then March 1st will be the next um set of timelines um and then the vaccine information is still um Coming forward um there are three phases for vaccines phase one is obviously the Frontline healthc care workers and long-term care residents um they have added to that other um a later phase that has now been added to phase one includes um other medical type professions dentists opthalmologists um they have added them and they will be getting the vaccine um it appears

prior to Ed to Educators um phase um 1B is Educators and individuals over um 75 years of age um there's several people in that sector and then um it moves down the the pathway so we did ask our current Public Health director Dr Saria what timeline he believed education would start seeing those vaccinations um it appears that it's disparate throughout the state as to um the number of vaccines that have been provided even to the Frontline workers um some hospitals have excess and other hospitals um people are waiting to get their vaccines and so um we as superintendant requested that um there is a clear plan delineated as um we get closer to vaccines being available um he did indicate that he's very um optimistic that we will be um earlier than um originally anticipated

which was the end of of March um when we first had the conversation but we'll see how that that comes out um this won't be an easy process because anybody who gets the vaccine has to be observed for approximately 20 minutes after they've received the vaccine and there's all kinds of um situ situations that they haven't been able to um determine how they'll process and get um people within a large school system um vaccinated um there are some concerns about the vaccine having to do with um people being required to and those are all being addressed um I have no information about that right now um it was brought up by um board members at a a recent meeting that um students not all students are even able to have a vaccine because they can't

receive it un unless they're 16 years of age of older so there's a lot still to go into this um but we will keep you posted I did indicate at the last board meeting as I got information I would share it um publicly during our board meetings um and then I think the last thing that I want to share is that the hospital data continues to be one of our um benchmarks for making decisions and bringing forward information to you as a board there has been no downturn to um the data there's there's some slight um decreases in numbers at our our local hospital but that is not in any way um going back to where we were even October 1st so um I will continue to get updates from um the CEO at St

Mary's and I will continue to provide um you information as we know um what is happening so that's all I have thank you thank you yeah board comments Miss Miss blasing please um I just welcome back to everybody in this new year hopefully it will be more healthy for everyone um other than that looking forward to working with you all and getting more people involved in the district thank you thank you Mrs so well I just want to point out that uh couple of us attended the uh joint meeting of High distri School Board Association members at that meeting in Ted aland count super was there I was giving a talk too I did mention to him that we need to have a coordinate approach in terms of vaccination yeah whatever success we feel we

achieve in apple we're willing to share with other distri food county superintendent school so we got to have a a thorough uh uh planed a plan to to carry out this vaccination yeah yeah you heard that TR mentioned that some people parents are concerned about your 16 year old under your 16y old you cannot get it and then there I also mentioned there some parents just like the uh small Parks vaccine they some parents object to it you know so we need to convince them that's necessary so but we hopefully we we have a the uh thought out plan by the state that the the delivery of the vaccine definitely had the state had done a very poor job okay I can tell you that so that's my comment thank you Mr Bender uh these

are tough times personally I think we'll get through it I I hope we have a plan to vaccinate something that's coordinated it just doesn't turn into a fire drill that's all I have to say Thank you Mr Ry uh just briefly I um was UN to hear that Christy Croft got so ill with this and just wishing her um speedy recovery it's my understanding she has gotten somewhat better but I did I do know that this um people that do get this um it takes a long time to fully recover so I'm just wishing her uh speedy recovery I think all the board can agree with that and U thank you uh my comment today uh is to um is to welcome everybody back to 2021 um 2021 we hoping will be uh a better

year than 2020 and um looking forward to um having a wonderful school year the rest of what's left of school year and wishing our families well I know that many of them are struggling and suffering um financially um food um um scarcity uh and actually being at home and not be able to go to work or small businesses not being able to open um I'm hoping that this will ease up so that people can return uh to work um it's very important that we pay attention to the health and and Welfare of people in our community especially our teachers and U Miss coly um we we heard you um just so you know we heard you um and um we send all of our best wishes to miss uh Miss Croft and any of our

members in our in our teachers teaching staff classified staff anybody who has had any anything to do with our district we are wishing you the very best this what's left of this covid so that covid will not find your addresses I thank you so much for hanging in there with us and uh we will do we do a good job or do better than what we've done in the past thank you for your time do we have any closing items that we will need to bring forward for the next board meeting okay there being no further business to come before the Board of Trustees it is recommended that the board be be adjourned I need a motion so move second second all in favor you opposed thank you there's nothing for them to sign correct

I only have one document for Maria to sign so I will bring that down to you okay thank you very much thank you everyone yeah for
