I have a quick question is um everybody has their own personal link or is it the same one for everyone everyone has their own link and so if they receive the calendar invite reminder they would just click on their name okay because I know that my kid has uh having she was like oh Mom can I just log in with you but if she has her own Linkin I'll try to see if she could log in on on her phone okay I'm to figure out how to move these cameras back he good afternoon everyone welcome to tonight's um Safety Committee this is meeting number two I am going to start the meeting off just welcomeing everyone here as we all log in just a reminder our meeting starts promptly at 5: and we are respectful
of everyone time and we end properly at six um tonight we do have our president our superintendent Mr Ortega who's also on our super uh in our Safety Committee so again welcome you all I did want to just go over the Norms just one more time um just a reminder on how we speak we should raise use a raiseed hand icon um to speak um and be ready to speak when we call on you um we ask that everyone please stay muted um throughout the discussion um questions we would do our best to answer all questions during the meeting um but by all means please also add your questions to the chat so that way if we're not able to get to your question we are able to respond accordingly um also the strong reminder
to respect all differences of opinion we all have the same goal of ensuring the safety of all of us both employees and staff and more importantly we will always start and end on time with that um this week for this meeting we did receive five questions and all of the questions related to safety drills so tonight we're going to do a presentation on safety drill answering those specific questions um and with that we will get started I'm going to share my screen thumbs up when you guys can see awesome awesome sauce so again we are talking about safety drills we have three required drills that we must complete every school year the first drill being a fire drill the second drill being an earthquake drill and the third drill being a lockdown drill we're going
to start with the fire drill we're going to cover for all three drills the frequency the procedure and the compliance so first for fire drills according to our board policy 35 16.1 the principal shall always hold a fire drill at least once a month at the elementary level four times every school year at the intermediate level and not less than twice every school year at the secondary level and a secondary level primarily being high school and middle school um our procedures includes that the principle shall notify the staff as of the schedule of the fire drills whenever fire fire drill is held all students teachers and other employees shall be directed to leave the building teachers shall ascertain that no student remains in the building and teachers shall be prepared to select an alternate exit
route and shall direct their classes to the exit wherever is designated and determined as Escape Route to ensure that it's not blocked when our teachers leave out their classroom um there is to be an emergency exit map at the doorway as well as a fire extinguisher and the fire extinguisher should accomp accompany a teacher when they're exiting their classroom for compliance the principal or design shall keep a record of each fire drill that is conducted and they maintain a copy for their record as well as submit one to the superintendent's office or his or her designate our next drill is our earthquake drill the frequency we always have one once a year we are always encouraging our sites to have more than one but the main required is once a year the district um participates
in the districtwide great ShakeOut which takes place on the third Thursday of every October our procedure is we're supposed to drop cover and hold on so we drop to the floor um as as the ground may be jerky are not firm we are to take cover under something that is sturdy to protect ourselves from any falling objects this could also include standing into a doorway we are to hold on meaning if we're underneath a desk we're supposed to hold down the leg so that way when it start shaking it doesn't move away if you can't get under something here to stay low and to protect your head and neck with your arms before leaving a building we are always encouraged to look around um assess objects that have may be fallen and then we exit
when it's deemed safe for compliance the principle or design is to keep a record of the participation in this drill and as with the fire drill um copy of that record is maintained on the campus as well as a copy is sent to the superintendent or his or her design KNE for our lockdown drills have a lot of information there so our lockdown drills we do these once a year but again sites are encouraged to um participate in them more than once um procedure during a lockdown drills all student staff are trained to get behind a locked door cut the lights out um and remain out of sight um compliance the principal desne maintain this record and um provide a copy of the record to the superintendent desne and I apologize for this educational code
this is just about safety and buildings so our communication modalities doing emergencies um we have three ways of communication for all of our campuses one is being a classroom phone or a buzzer paging um system and the reason why I say that is because not all classrooms have the new voice over IP phones um some still has the old pagent system which allows them to hit a button to contact the front office um in a state of emergency with the pagent system they hit the button they're able to alert the front office of their emergency needs if they have the voice over IP system they can actually dowal the front office as well as make other calls from their office the district's current goal is to ensure by 2425 that we have a districtwide voice
over IP which is vo and I'm sorry um that means that we have a digital phone system that goes through our Network and our goal is to have this installed districtwide from the offices to all the classrooms for every one of our operating sites the second mode of communication that we have on our campuses are called our intercom system at Dalton Lee and Paramount they are currently the only sites that have our new operating clock intercom system which is a digital clock that's inside the classrooms and NPR rooms and other U off um frequently operating spaces that always displays the time the district logo it also has a speaker on there where if there's an emergency there can be a all call alert as well as it gives the option of have an alert notification
via color in case we have anyone that has hearing impaired or it can give you an alert notification to let you know please shelter in place or please keep all doors and locks it gives us another way that we can communicate instantly from one remote area to all the areas on our campus we also have walkie-talkies um all sites currently have walkie-talkies any site that currently did not have a operating phone in the classroom they were all issue walkie talkies in that in their classroom that is no longer a safety hindrance at our site for our campuses because all Sites currently have either a working phone or a paging system in their classrooms and front offices so how does a district office support during a safety need whether it's a lockdown or any type of
emergency um the site has this contact card which tells them exactly their disruption procedure there to follow on the back of that card it also gives them the a point of contact for our director of communication as well as our director of child safety and Welfare upon the site contacting the number on the back of the cart cabinet is informed by way of communication through the superintendent and the super assistant superintendent um during lockdown procedures and other emergencies cabinet immediately dis uh disperses to those sites to provide additional partnership and assistance for example um last year when there was a lockdown needed at pal Elementary not because of activity that was going on on campus but it was activity in the neighborhood once the um um Police Department contacted our director communication Captain was aware
we were alerted and we were all dispersed um we had our superintendent first contact with the principal then uh assists superintendents were either dis uh dispersed to work the gates provide communication to families help when we are able to remove the lockdown and help um reunite students with their families and a USD upgrades that are on the horizon I don't know where these questions are coming from on my slides now I apologize so we have recently upgraded most of our fire alarm panels and I say most because we are currently at our district office but all of of our school sites now have um working panels um fire alarms which they always have but we we are upgrading our fire alarm so I do not want to give the impression that we did not have
working fire alarms but we are upgraded our fire alarms and what we're working on now is upgrading our panels and the reason why that's important is because we want to make sure we're working with ausa fire to ensure that if our fire alarm goes off and Wing one that's exactly where they're being dispersed to um we're also working to get our district on one unified panel um we found that it depending on the area of our campuses they were on different type of fire alarms which also creates um harder it gives you a harder way to manage um those systems so now that we have a one unique system it gives our maintenance and operation as well as our Mis um director the ability to truly troubleshoot and manage and partner better with the um
isua PD Department we have also install surveillance cameras and we continue to do this this allows us to be able to see if we have any wanted activity on our campuses it allows us to see if anyone came on our campus that wasn't supposed to or if we had an area of our campus that we're know we're not being utilized and we now see traffic then we're able to get alert as as an administrator to say Hey you have activity in this area um we are also rolling out Access Control Access Control means that our all of our doors would be able to be open with Badges and the reason why that's important and exciting is that if there was ever a need of lock down because we have access uh control doors we don't
have to go to each door and manually lock it we can literally do it from the district office or at a school site for safety measures we also are in installing visitor management system which means that we now when our visitors come on our campus once properly rolled out they will show their ID badge it could be scanned it will alert us to let us know like hey yes this person is supposed to be on our campus but more importantly it will produce a badge that will identify who that person is and the room or the area of Campus that they were authorized to go to so that also gives us that that um extra caution of hey I was in a bwing but I saw somebody with a visitor bash that was only supposed
to be in the gym area so then that would alert me to contact my site administrator and then we all have our all hands on deck of ensuring the safety of our campuses we also have the digital clock and alert system that I shared that is currently at Dalton Le and Paramount the will be installed districtwide um that's another again paging and alert system so there it was an emergency it can Flash if something was happening on the campus the administrator can log on and just by the click of a button or just um hitting a call a number to say hey I need everyone to shelter in place that one message go to all the classrooms that has the working um system it's a digital clock it gives us an alert if that same
alert and we knew we had let's say a hearing impaired person we we can um identify those to go a red code for one type of alert and we will train everyone to say when it's flashing red this means shelter in place in addition to the flashing red lights you would also hear the voice of the administrator stating what is going on that is also a way to do an all clear so that way we don't have to wait to have a chain telephone line to say hey you're clear you're clear it could be all clear over the one speaker system and another upgrade that we have is that we have upgraded our walkie-talkies we the old analog system which we know if you went too far your walkie-talkies did not work we have been
rolling out our new digital um walkie-talkies that allows us to be able to talk further as well as to have more communication as well as from the district office to our sites and with that I am going to say thank you and ask if there's any questions on our safety drills Mr noi before you go Mr Noy can I acknowledge I didn't answer your question I can answer it right now your question that you submitted was asking um do the drills have to be announced or unannounced and there is no rule that it has to be announced or unannounced but we have the ability to do unannounced drills yes the reason I I brought that up is because a few years ago when we had an actual another fire previous to the one we just
had on campus a couple of weeks ago um we it I was astounded I walked into the classroom and the there was a fire when we had uh um when we had uh um uh home economics on uh on on campus uh they were teaching them how to uh cook and they turned the stove on and you know unfortunately the uh the stove wasn't hooked up uh correctly on the back so what happened was that there was a fire in the classroom uh I walked in because there's a lot of noise chatter and all the students were still in the classroom uh we had to pull the fire alarm Evacuate the uh the entire campus but uh I went to go check on the north side of the the campus the two the back of
the 20000s and um I found that all four classrooms were still in class so I you know proceeded to each classroom ask him what are you guys doing and said well we thought we we didn't know we were having drill and I told him says it's because it's not a drill that's why I mean to me it's if you know if we don't announce drills it makes people aware to what's going on um so that that's one thing that uh um if we can try differently see how that works um y um but going back to uh the uh uh the axis uh cards that we're that are going to be issued you know hopefully soon or the uh keyless entry is security going to have like a universal one in case teachers get locked
out or they forget their cards or how is that going to work so yes so it it'll it parter be just like your ID badge um and so it's as simple as hey Latasha is currently working at glassstone but we're transferring her TOA within a clicking a button my badge is now accessible takes my aess away from one to the other if I lost my badge it'll be the same as if I lost my keys I will go to my administrator let them know I lost my badge and another badge could be issued okay uh what if they forgot it and forgot it at home and they needed entry same thing is if they forgot their keys they will go to the front office and and speak their administrator and say hey I forgot my
badge and then a temporary badge will be issued to them thank you you're welcome Mr Gabriel kind of going along that line where you said that there would be like Central our ability for central control for locking doors yes if there was a lockdown yeah if there was a lockdown that could be controlled either from the site or the district or just the district no it both the site so you get once we have that you'll be trained on on that platform on how you can lock down your campus and that would that ability to control would be in a couple admin hands or just the principal that has not been determined we're still rolling out the system so we're doing the is now but as far as who's having access to it that has
not been determined all right thank you you're welcome Miss Meg and then miss Patricia you're muted Miss Mick sorry I have a lockdown question semi related I think um entry Gates and exit gates and I'm specifically thinking of one at ausa high school um it is a gate that in the past students um have been able to exit from employees can exit from because it had a push bar um and I was always told that with those Gates we were not allowed to lock them because of you know actor active shooter possibility safety fire things like that but that particular gate the one that's on the western most side next to the front parking lot on citos has a padlock on it now and so safety-wise I'm wondering when there is a lockdown when there's
an issue and we've all been taught to flee from the nearest gate why is that pad locked so we're working on those and I know we have one at isusa High School Mr uh trust reached out to me about that um we are working on removing Pat locks from margat and putting the push bar and that'll also be part of the access control deployment well that one has a push bar and so a padlock has been put on the push bar gate and I'm wondering that will be that removed pardon me I would have I'm I'm sorry I was saying that site specific so I would need to look into and partner with Gabriel to see why that's happening maybe the push bar isn't working properly I'm not sure but I can look into that
for you okay yeah because I when I go on the site visits um I was surprised and somebody told me that that's been a problem and they've tried reporting it but it is a safety issue related to if we have you know something like that so that's no problem I'm most definitely looking into that thank you miss Patricia um so thank you for all the information that you provided this evening uh Latasha um just a couple of questions one is do we have are we in the process of finding out what is our backup procedure in case once we start using this access card that wifi or the system goes down is there a a backup on that and then secondly um I'm glad to to hear you know like I said we're moving forward
and all of this but um I know we're having you know the cameras are being installed everywhere and so on is it going to be accessible that for for safety transparency and everything that we will have a series of panels available to be able to watch what's you know like uh safety purposes a designated area where there's six monitors six cameras six monitors or they're just changing so it's we're being proactive in case something does happen or we do see something suspicious on a far gate that nobody it's a blind spot to us that we're able to see something maybe ahead of time and then be able to be proactive do a lockdown get ahead of the game and so it's constant because I've seen it at other districts where you walk in their front
office and there's literally a whole set of monitors and they're just changing because just the safety uh is that something that you're considering um so I'm go to your first question so the backup um so even with the badges we will still have keys so that's the backup so we're not removing the key access it's just another way to access our campus and to be able to lock down so that will be our backup as far as the monitors um as of right now we have not went down that route because that's also determined a person who's going to be responsible for monitoring so you can't just put something up and not designate a person because that also increased the liability so once you implemented you actually have to have the Personnel that's going to
do the monitoring so right now what we have is that our cameras give us alerts and so each site was able to determine when they wanted to receive the alert so typically it's after hours and weekends then they get an email notification or text depending on what they chose to be be informed that something is happening on their campuses and that is the same at our secondary level with the sensor alerts inside the restrooms um we also have our overnight person who does have all those C uh screens that they're able to watch our campuses so right now that's how we're monitoring our campuses and to be proactive but we have not gone down the road of saying hey we're going to put this up in our front offices because then we would have to
determine who's going to actually monitor them thank you Mr Noy um Gabriel with your permission if I can answer that question that may had H could we not could we do it separately so we can do the alert versus here okay awesome thank you so much any other questions okay I got one more and then I'm done for the night um may I ask in regard to district I know we've had a lot of info about our school sites and some on the district do we have procedure because you your site has multiple doors multiple you know like it's it's kind of open to anybody so does the staff there also have procedure do how you know like how are they made aware are they going to have the like every door going to have
a TAP card on it to be able to access it from every Warehouse to every Department uh door there yes and currently that's the case now to get into the district office you must have a code with the exception of the front office area then you can get into the welcome area but you cannot go beyond that area without being buzzed in so that's currently the process and so then where we will be going beyond that is yes the district office will continue to have access control so instead of entering a code like right now you either enter a code or you use your badge the district office will also have the a access cards but then we will also have that when you go to the PDC when you go to nutrition services so
will be districtwide awesome anyone else with questions Gabriel relating to our our safety drill um we would like I'm trying to figure this out on our calendar to be able to provide like comprehensive training for all our new Personnel on it about their roles within a proper evacuation drill so like in and you know when you would have like a search and rescue team you have all these different teams that would be activated on campus that would be comprised of all certificated and classified but like do a training for our search and rescue do a training for our um our first aid Team all those different groups of of of employees but we would like for all of them to be trained in the rle roles um is that something that we can contract with
in terms of a a company or how how how might we go about that so we we train people properly so that would be a s specific question remember our role here is district-wise safety so if we're saying we want to do that District wi then we can look to see how we can incorporate that but we don't want to use this platform to figure out how we could do things specifically just for isza got it but we can talk about that offline if you like all right sorry about that oh no problem any other questions yes Miss Meck am am I allowed to ask oh I'm sorry go ahead Miss V go ahead oh go she's ging you thumbs up Meg go for it I'm sorry I didn't see she that she had her
hand raised okay um is it okay for me to ask questions related to the security cameras for security purposes if it's districtwide yes yes districtwide um so um um you had shared with us previously I'm not sure if it was here or if it was um in another meeting that we were in so I apologize if if you said that the cameras that were being installed were specifically being placed in locations to make sure that there were not um like blind spots correct um also additional cameras yes and specifically also um cameras that were like facing the streets and things like that where there were possibilities of exit and uh or even entry traffic coming from the outside of the school in correct correct Okay so security purposes wise what what else are we doing
with the cameras Beyond just essentially BL what I understood to be blind spots and um access points so uh the blind spot terminology came in when we did the first phase of our perimeter installation of cameras we realized we have blind spots meaning the camera we will put in in section A when we looked at it we noticed that as soon as a person passed the camera we would never be to see them and they was still on our campus so we went to phase two to cover the blind spots meaning it was given us additional coverage to be able to see when someone entered our campuses where they went for safety purposes of actually accessing our campuses does that one help it does but okay but then I'm gonna ask um another question and
and I'm thinking in terms of and I don't know how to say it so I'll just kind of blurt it out if we're talking about fights on campus or if we're talking about something that is questionable about student Behavior whether it's Elementary or secondary it's anywhere we do not have cameras though that record them going down the hallways and things like that correct I mean the parents would have to be and teachers and classified we'd all have to be made aware if those kinds of cameras were taking regular pictures right we have no cameras inside hallways inside a building now there's a walkway that leads to a exit point a camera will cap capture that walkway because it leads to an exit point and we have signage on can I give you an example that
I'm just thinking of in my head I was driving um um around isusa high again this is not isusa high specific it's just an example because I know and I got to see where the kids are crossing the street from east to west because I was driving my car and so for example a camera might be placed there because it is an exit point from the west campus and an entry point to the East Campus is that what you're saying no so like if we're looking on the back of Aza High School you would have a c camera on the back building which was the old theater so there will be a camera there that can actually capture a entry and exit to our campus but that does not mean we have a campus at
the gate on the other side we will have a c we will have a camera on the nearest building that actually can capture the field area if someone came on our campus that's what we would have okay and the reason I asked related to like the fights and stuff is that there's no way I'm asking this from almost a parent perspective that you know if my child got into a fight and you caught it on camera you're not allowed to use that camera footage right because you don't have parental permission to be taking video of the kids correct that is not correct but I'm going to say that that is not a topic for our Safety Committee that will be under student Support Services because the question is not a safety related meaning do I
have permission to record a student because I'm not recording a student as a fight the fight was captured under the camera so well and so I I maybe I asked it the wrong way I I think that it um there's a conflict here related to safety versus students rights versus something else because let's face it kid thinks they're being recorded they're not going to fight and fighting is a sa but what we have to remember is all of our campuses has the sinage that lets you know that once you enter our campuses you are being recorded that's at every entry point of all of our campuses but it but but are we having people sign permission to be recorded that's not required just it's like if you go into a bank you don't sign permission
for them to record you to enter the bank we just have to inform you that you're being recorded but I'm hearing you say that the video cameras for the sake of safety are only on the external parts of the campus not internal in the sense of walkways or anything else unless they are a direct um Pathway to an entry or exit point is that what I heard I I don't want to say that way because I don't know if we have the same interpretation of internal external if if you're on the quad area that's external so there are cameras in that area because there's an entry point to get into our buildings but there is no cameras inside if you're in a classroom in the bwing or if you're inside of a classroom but there
is a camera in the front office but if you're walking through the quad area and there's a gate there is a camera that could capture that area if there is a gate to get to the outside of the campus yes so I'm going to give you another example because again I want understand so I'm only using isusa because I was just there and so it's fresh in my mind there are what I would call Quad areas um that are not the big quad with all the trees in the middle but but where the classrooms are correct but if there is no entry or exit gate to one of those quads because you know the open air space is surrounded by classrooms there shouldn't be any cameras there that's not correct because of a person jumped
the fence and entered our building we need to be able to capture them so there is a camera in that area that's a external area it leads to the streets maybe another way maybe another way of saying it is cap is capturing all the external perimeter of our facilities so um so the I'm was thinking small so like at elementary school the black top area um that would be covered even though it's not a gate or whatever uh but if somebody were to to pop in we need to make sure that we are we can we we can monitor and piece together a story of of of what what occurred you know maybe when they hopped that we couldn't see them but now in this camera we capture them really well so when we say
external we mean the outside not like the street the outside but the outside of our buildings what we're not doing is like inside classrooms um you know like things like that so hallways and walkways you're placing cameras where you can see people walking down hallways and walkways then if it's outside if that's a walkway to lead outside yes but if we have an internal hallway no okay so at Hajj then let's use an elementary example because you just brought that up they have areas where there's a quad in the center of six classrooms it is completely surrounded by classrooms are there cameras in there inside even because it's an outside space but it's not direct it does not have direct access in any way to an outside fence or anything else they have cameras to
enter the quad to show if you came from the grassy area to go inside those quads okay all right Miss I'm gonna say your name wrong because I know that's not your name that's the name that's displayed I'm so sorry it's okay it's V that's my last name I messed up that's my son's name Victor um I'm a new parent new to everything I had a different question but now regarding the cameras um if I can just you know if you can just explain to me so they can't be cameras inside the classrooms and can I know why um so um we would have to negotiate having cameras inside the classroom and also identify the need for cameras in the classroom so that's not what we do not what we have here okay okay thank
you and my first question was um you uh mention ACC I know there's an access code door at the um School District district office yes ma'am the district office um is that I just want to clarify is that something that we're planning on doing at every school so at every at every school it's not going to be a code but it'll be a badge so meaning a teacher or staff person would not need a key to get get in they can use their bad to get in but the front office door is always open up into the welcome area for visitors to come in and check in and then you would have to receive access to come to the rest of the campus which we currently do now so you can't just walk directly on
our campus you have to stop in the front office sign in that process will remain the same it's just the staff now would not have to physically use the key if they currently use keys to get into their classroom they can now access their classroom with a badge okay and for example as a parent you can go into the office and then just wait and to be walked into the actual yes ma'am you will not lose your access okay thank you so much you're welcome thank you for the question Mr Noy and then miss Patricia in regards to the uh the access um and the gates are we going to have uh um access through the gates without having to use key the goal is uh for the doors that have the push availability if
technology can go that far remember to make access control work it has to be able to connect to the network so as far out as we can all Gates will have the ability to have the access control okay so that um will that be also to exit uh through one of those Gates using an ACC no no exit is always a push bar you cannot lock a gate during operating hours this is just to get on to the campus okay thank you you're welcome Miss Patricia you um so two things one is um the front door I understand you know uh it's always maintained being open and so on but if we have a lockdown will it lock automatically and also um for some of us at some of the school sites that you may
have visited there's a little concern in regard to moving forward because um like in at my school site it's I'm like a fishbowl in here and it's before we know it it's it could be too late I'm going to be honest this is a Safety Committee we're we're moving we're doing this because of these reasons um is there going to be any way of pushing a gate further out that can be automatically locked like like you know where our school for example we have a partition of a of a brick wall and if we put a gate that goes slant over to the push gate we can have a dual push gate if we needed to we can put an access right there so if a lockdown goes goes on it automatically prevents the Intruder
from going past the office that's a concern there's some schools like hodj they don't know who's coming through the door they're working and by the time they look up so is a district considering that and also schools that are exposed to the part of their school is exposed as like mine and others there's a whole row of classrooms that are nothing but Windows is that been considered with all of this going on because it'll kind of defeat the purpose is there anything of fencing off to prevent intriguers from coming in on campus on the parking lot side or those that have window you know what I mean I mean if any of you my school I live my scho but um that we are closed to the streets yeah so I could go backwards so
one as far as there additional fencing going up that is not currently in the plan that is not me to know but that is not currently in the plan so there will be no fencing blocking Windows um as far as all front offices just all front offices will have the access control um as far as moving gates to change entry points um we have not started that conversation we did start exploring we're looking at how the off how the setup is at um Murray how you can go in and you're only in that area but you're not in um actual in the front office so we are doing those audits at this time um as far as who can do a lock down that could be done from anyone at the district office as well
as any administrator on campus that has access and it's literally a click of a button and everyone will be trained on that and then we will be determining who all should have the ability to lock down on campus great question anyone else Mr trusso okay first of all I'm sorry I'm late uh my practice got out at 5 o'clock and my last player didn't leave till about 5:20 because she didn't tell her father that practice was over at 5 o'clock so sorry about that um so I want to make sure she was safe out there there okay so two so one thing okay I'm actually going to bring up okay and I and I I know I posed this question to you already Atasha um but about the side gate over here okay um and
I understand why you know certain teachers only have keys for that gate but my concern is that um you know during emergency if something were to happen right um you know active shooter something like that I I can't I'm not going to wait to try and call a teacher see if they're okay to see if they're going to go to that gate and open that gate because not of us not all of us have the key so I understand about hey we got to lock that gate because we don't want students sing the campus and I get that okay um is there a way that we can have the same key that opens up the outside open up the inside instead of making that gate a push a push open um so that way we
all have access to that and the kids that way the kids can't push that gate open we have a lot of options that we can explore um but as I Shar that's site specific um so I don't want so I would encourage you and Mr Fernandez to meet to come up with a solution to see how you guys are going to operate that area in a time of emergency okay all right anyone else Miss Meg um I I want to address the gate and the push gate thing and not use ausi as the example because I don't want this to be about site specific because I want to understand um when it comes to safety what is our rule of thumb going to be with these Gates that are the the push Gates and and
I'll use another school as an example Magnolia um they have some gates that are push Gates where literally last year not this year there were kindergarten kids because they were Runners and wanted to escape that pushed the push bar and ran out the door and so you have that as a problem on one hand but on the other hand we were told you can't lock them because you need to have access for the kids to get out in case there's an emergency that is true so what is the solution to that and how is that different than say what's happening at a zeusa high where they've got Gates that are bolted shut or locked shut even though they have a push bar thing like what is the rule of thought so I I won't address
isua because that's that's okay but I'm just I will share I will share so an example that you did give so push gates are to be open and unaccessible to just push and exit during operating hours in the case of like when we had a magnola and we also had this at Murray where we have our buddies that like to hit the gate and say bye-bye we put adult latches on them that are also unlocked but it pushes so if the student pushes it that the gate doesn't actually open the latch clicks on but if it's an emergency the adult at the appropriate height just flips it and it goes out there's no key required it's just a hook to keep it so that a student can't open it okay so help me understand this
is all secondary it's not a zeusa high every secondary s they have to have the push Gates too right and so how is that monitored with kids because they need to have that option too however you can't just put the adult latch because most of those boys are taller than me for goodness sakes and just can reach up there and flip it open right but but that that's not a secondary matter though I want to make sure we're understanding the gate a high a secondary student EX in a campus that's a behavior that we have to address but a Elementary student that is running and pushing out we can prevent them by putting the latch putting the latch for tall six seventh eighth grader that doesn't work and you can't lock the gate so if
you have a push bar it has to be open and we have to monitor that as staff but I heard you say they are all if they are if there are push bars on the gates they are supposed to be left unlocked that that is that is true that is true ma'am okay okay just wanted to clarify because I I know we're not getting into site specific but I'm hearing you reaching you reaching but yes okay any other questions all right I'm just going to start talking just in case we have our next meeting which is January 10th as a reminder your questions have to be submitted by December 22nd after December 22nd I change it to view only access and remember you're just updating your questions and that helps us form uh formulate our
agenda so if there's agenda topics that I can group together I will or um I will say hey this will be on the next month agenda it also helps us identify based on the topic of interest if we need to have an outsider so the sooner you posee your questions we can formulate the agenda we can make sure the person that's appropriate to speak on that topic is available I do want to thank Mr Manuel for coming in last minute um because I wanted him here in case we had additional questions so thank you Manny I appreciate that um but with that guys we had no more questions want to be mindful thank you thank you thank you for your participation thank you for the questions and thank you for partnering with us to make
isua UniFi more safe have a good night all
