one absent looking at area 5.0 report Action of closed session matters there is nothing to report which brings us to 6.0 recognition and awards and specifically 6.1 recognition of student board member Natalie De La Cruz Mr Ortega thank you board president uh Greer um it is uh with uh great uh Pride uh that uh we let everyone know that today is Natalie's last day in person um as you probably know we have three student board members and they um share the responsibility of coming in person uh Natalie will shift to uh joining us virtually at every board meeting uh I have had the distinct honor uh to be with Natalie at trainings uh to tackle uh really big uh topics that are happening uh in the district and her along with her colleagues Have Been
instrumental uh in in quite a bit that we have been doing so far and it's just October Natalie so uh congratulations we are so fortunate to have you uh representing not only Azusa High School as a student board member but representing the district in such a classy and awesome and vigorous manner thank you anything you'd like to say about this experience yes definitely so I will be honest and speak from vulnerability um coming into this you know room with all of you guys here you know hearing the fancy name president superintendent assistant a superintendent the members of Board of Education it's very easy for a kid a student like me to be intimidated but when I first walked in here all of you were welcoming and that is something that just touches my heart deeply
and it's not something I can convey easily through words but show through my actions so as a student board representative as a resident here in Azusa as a daughter as my mother who is here joining me as a first generation student I just want to acknowledge that I will work valiantly I try and advocate for my community and to hope that I can contribute to hope that I can Inspire other students to Advocate and to contribute the way they see fit and for them to explore and show and convey their passions in ways that I know are possible because people are here people like you are here advocating for us that is why I am so appreciative of all of you here because you have shown me that you are listening to the student body
you're listening to someone like me and you have inspired me so this is my deep gratitude to you guys and thank you so much for this opportunity I would like to mention uh that in addition to um the the stuff that we have worked on together um I do know that uh Natalie is very involved uh out at school and uh she is responsible for uh starting a new club at Isuzu high school and so we know that I once at Azusa High School we know we know that when students are connected to sports or music or clubs um we increase uh that engagement which then increases uh student achievement and so so thank you Natalie can I add something to that I want to well spoken Natalie and I want to thank you for
your service and your input and I do see here at Azusa High very involved and in in the community as interact student I see you as the future board member if you want to be one you'll be good at it girl I wanted to to share um this quote with you and it says to all the Esters in this room who were born for such a time as this I wish when I was growing up someone had had a vision together all together to empower Us by hope Wilson the program specialist for vulnerable populations um I I am wowed by by your presence I'm wowed by the way you see the way you carry yourself you say your first generation is La Primera okay yeah like just what you said right now you know you
hope to empower others but also Advocate and understand do what they stay fit you know a lot of the times as Leaders we may not agree on things but if we can respect each other and as such as we you know agree to disagree and like you just said that is a true leader and I see that in you you were born in such time as this and I see you as a true leader you know what just like board member Rodriguez Pena said I also when I came to this District as an immigrante is escuelas Primera first female School Board member isayama is it can also be the mayor he's a very smart young lady you know she saw it in me okay you my friend let me call you that now we've been
sitting at the table together you're far more advanced right then back in the 80s you have so much more going for you and however I can help you you just let me know and I do see you as a future board member so if not I see you as a leader somewhere wherever you you know can use your strength and at this time we're going to present you but the Azusa Unified School District certificate of recognition is proudly presented to Natalie De La Cruz for her service as the in-person student board member on the Azusa Unified School District Board of Education today October 18 2022 thank you I know it's not your last day but you're going to be online please feel free to reach out the superintendent to any of us me I could

evening Harold Usery good evening board members cabinet my name is Harold estri I've been a teacher in Azusa since 1989. uh teaching Middle School the whole time and I'd like to ask the board if they would require the district to give a monthly if not more report on the setup of our new Gladstone noodles because we know a lot of things are going on but I don't know exactly what those things are and there's a lot of small pieces that you know that are concerning to my middle school colleagues that we just haven't heard about and you asked about it and then we get some information but then it stops so we had a more regular report as we head into this brand Endeavor that would be great including but not limited to sportsly uh
middle schools and Azusa have never played outside of Azusa for over 50 years and I know there's been a contact and you have to get some type of number but then that was the last heard of it and uh something that particular part of it you've also had the blessing that goes along with you know there's a lot of busting back and forth between five six seven ten different middle schools do we have the Personnel do we have the bus in that same line we know we know the kids are going to get Bust from northern Zoo so over to Gladstone or middle school but what happens in the afterout practice is go to five o'clock five thirty how are they going to get home are they going to be required for the parents to
pick them up which is greater you know they're local but these are Middle School we're talking 11 12 13 years old not nice um that also campus security we usually have noon time AIDS which is great for a little little campus but now you have Gladstone High School campus you need baby campus security along with that video cameras we had a question you got little spiders one uh discipline before the school opens the program needs to be in play attention on school suspension and plus we now have eliminated all the other options but what happens when the kid doesn't make it at the building Houston socially adjust them to the other schools now it's like don't make it a Gladstone middle so we're gonna go right away uh so we're gonna happen at that point
a special ed what's going to happen with the case though are they gonna say you know Global inclusion are we going to go pull out are we going to mix the case though between mild mod and mods here there's the county class going to go first life skills and it's possible these things have already been discussed so we could get some reports on that just overall on a regular basis I think the ease and transition building into this in the middle school would be fantastic um also included in the transition uh have you appointed Mr Domo as the new principal I recall with the high school you pulled the principal put him in the district office and said hey thank you Mr esri that's your time thank you thank you foreign good evening superintendent cabinet
board president and board I'm Solis Louisa and as ausd parent Community member um firstly I want to thank superintendent Ortega and board member Rodriguez Pena for attending the Hodge PTA fundraiser at prestonflower these funds support our students in many ways and we're we were just grateful for your presence and I was there for a limited amount of time so if I miss the board member I thank you for being there as well um secondly I'm likely jumping ahead and you'll likely address these questions I have but I wanted to bring up questions that I hope to have clarified during today's presentation on exponentials um so there are a few the first regarding instructional materials and possible upgrades I'm curious to what grades and will materials be considered with the Dei lens for example history will
they be paying attention to curriculum or specifically what's in there um that really addresses diversity Equity inclusion well ausd diversify our narratives our efforts be expanded and continue to be supported in books offered and is the Seal of Civic engagement embedded in outcomes of these materials for applicable grades um the second regarding gate will gate be focused on academic programming or will an Arts opportunity be offered an example of this is lausd's gate programming through the conservatory of Fine Arts they have an expanded program on Saturdays I know some Saturdays and a bit during the summer and I think that would be a great opportunity and finally in regards to training while anti-racism equity and inclusion training be considered and provided to not just teachers but staff um once again I'm likely jumping ahead but
I wanted to make sure that um questions from the community are also included so I thank you all for your work and time and have a lovely evening thank you so much Miss Louisa this brings us to 8.0 and specifically 8.1 comment reports and requests by the Board of Education and we will begin with board member Rodriguez good evening everyone is it on yes um again I wanted to thank Natalie had that in my notes before that but um for her input that she had her input is very important and and she was not afraid to step up and say what she needed to say and that's that's a plus um I did go to the before cart night at Senator Foothill and Slauson it was very well attended and the principals did a great
job that was very organized um the old schoolhouse the community leaders residents children came together to see history made in Azusa the historical old school house was relocated from Slauson Middle School campus to the Azusa veterans Freedom Park I would like to thank mayor Gonzalez Consul members city manager Gonzalez superintendent Ortega and his cabinet ausd board members and also the passport members I recall we've been talking about this since I've been at work since 2011. we were talking about this house since 2011 so I'd like to also thank the past board members that were also included and um to making this move possible but most importantly I wanted to thank uh Senator and assembly woman Rubio for funding this important project for the residents of Azusa it will be restored and we will hear about
that in the future um uh today I went to the Azusa High School CTE program uh they're celebrating the manufacturing month with a series of work based learning events did you go there today Natalie I wasn't able to you weren't okay um and um they had the high school CTE students from Automotive Engineering computer science and Snyder Collision the DPR Construction High-Speed Rail just to name a few were there speaking to the students which I I feel it's really um great that we do give the students opportunities for college but we also need to give them options um that they're able to do um be a mechanic or or go to Snyder's it was really interesting the boys are really interested in seeing them because they had a I guess it was a windshield and
you know you get like a rock thrown in it and they were showing the whatever they used to pop pop it out but anyway it was really interesting the kids were very interested in that and I like that like tomorrow they're going to have um it's called Speed Street uh interviewing where students are going to come and I will be one of those persons interviewing the students um and the I just have an announcement regardless of the city library they'll be having their Fall Festival on Wednesday October 26th from 4 to 6 pm at Veterans Park they'll have Trunk or Treat costume conscious crafts and games thank you board member Beau good evening everyone colleagues parents community members I just wanted to share my brief comments um and how excited I was to participate in
the movement of the old school house last week along with most of everyone here in the room it was truly a historic event I've never seen a structure of that size being moved I think that was really a technological wonder and um really appreciate um the uh the experts and technicians that made that possible I think it was just amazing part of History to participate in um and uh I also wanted to share that uh at one of my daughter's schools at Longfellow we um some of the parents have organized a Halloween costume donation drive so we can bring our old costumes of any size and parents and families can come pick up a costume um to ensure that all families have access to a fun and safe costume for their child so that's coming
up at Longfellow thank you whatever are you guys I I really like that board member Yolanda Pena or Rodriguez Pena yeah uh just how she's just out in our community because I was like oh yeah I'm gonna say something like that oh wait you know but the one thing that um I did get to attend this last week was uh just as my fellow board members um also shared was the movement of the schoolhouse um when you know the dark history that also comes along with that but accepting it and knowing that we are in a better place now that there's no segregation um and being able to restore and it it was a it just didn't happen overnight it was a conversation like Yolanda Rodriguez Pena board member um had said as I would
come to the meetings or I would listen to the meetings um it was discussed quite a bit when I got on the board it was also discussed and I want to personally thank um Jeffrey Cornejo or being the historian and keeping that alive you know his words the book He's written um and him sharing with all of us right um just knowing every detail I really wanted to thank him for that and um mayor Robert Gonzalez for also being uh a big support in this and being able to to just say you know we'll get the funds just work with us and how they were in the ad hoc with the board member uh Greer and board member Rodriguez Pena and how we just collaborated with city council right um Sergio the uh city manager
and all of the rest of the city council and how we both both uh school board and city council came together to be able to restore a lot of uh to restore this and Senator Susan Rubio and assemblywoman Blanca Rubio thank you so much for your tenacity to be able to bring this grant to the city um to be able to preserve um this history for a lot of the people that have been here for generations and generations and um lastly I I could not believe that um someone found someone that went to school there because most most of the individuals that um went to school there you know and did go through that um that dark side um most of them have passed and so I was very grateful that you know to see
someone there in our community um be there uh to to be part of the celebration and so some of us didn't get home till like almost 8 30 that night um to see it literally go through Fourth Street to uh was it San Gabriel first no a Souza and then Route 66 and then up Dalton by the Smart and Final and then finally made it to its home um I did not get a chance to make it to to when it got to Veterans Park but um I did see the pictures and um I'm very grateful that we could all be part of this together in collaboration again with city council and mayor Robert Gonzalez so thank you again cabinet and Arturo for being able to make this happen thank you yeah and I too
just want to Echo those those same thoughts uh and grateful for uh my colleagues sharing the just the thanks that are are due to go around and so I do want to I want to thank first um my my colleague Yolanda Rodriguez Pena for sitting along with superintendent Ortega as we sat in with the ad hoc meetings with uh the city along with Sergio city manager Sergio Gonzalez uh uh mayor Robert Gonzalez and council member Eddie Alvarez it a lot of conversation a lot a lot of talk a lot of a lot of dreaming even some instances of of kind of hoping that things would go a certain way and then not really hitting it the way that we were hoping to uh but but when it was all said and done we were able
to arrive uh there and so I also want to thank uh colleagues here on the board uh for the for your vision and belief to join together and partner with our counterparts that we thank as well on the city council just again grateful as you said board member Ariana's brother for the partnership and for the the ways that we were able to join together to make this uh uh possible and preserve this for our community and and yes uh similarly you want to thank uh both Senator Rubio as well as assembly member Rubio for for their support as well so uh we look forward to to seeing in the the weeks the months the years to come the old school house be like the new Schoolhouse as it's as it's updated and given some some
love and so um we definitely look forward to that and look forward to being able to take our students through there to understand um you know intimately just the the the rich and Real History um that existed here and the ways that this community has uh persevered through um dark moments um as a community so we look forward to that the only other item that I have is is somewhat of an update that I wanted to share out with with my colleagues and and others um so earlier this year uh just because of uh personal professional professional and also educational goals that I have I I made the decision uh to not seek re-election um with for for a seat on this school board um something that I did not anticipate or expect was that
nobody would uh pull papers uh to to apply for uh to run um then we opened up the window for for people to apply to be appointed by the Board of Education and something that I also did not anticipate was that there would not be any viable candidates that submitted an application for that and so it puts us in a as a district in a unique and potentially precarious position uh due to our need to to ensure that there is someone who is uh seated or area one trustee area one and so after a lot of thought and prayer I wanted to communicate uh out and share that I did go on ahead and submit an application uh for an appointment for the for trustee area one um it's my some of my thinking behind
that is I wanted to make sure as there were not any applications that that came through that uh the board did have at least one viable option uh to consider it's also important to note that um the reasons why I did not originally um submit my name for that still stand and I and I want to be fully transparent in communicating that I I am not 100 certain that I would be able to fulfill a four-year term uh but at the same time just recognizing where we are I also uh am willing to stand in to make sure that that we're not uh left kind of in in the dark for for uh this this next season um there are a couple logistical things for for us to to consider as we we look ahead
and uh to the to the Future one is I by virtue of office being the president along with uh vice president Beau have been appointed to an ad hoc committee that reviews those the applications as they come in but due to the fact that I have now submitted an application I am choosing to recuse myself from that and uh board member Rodriguez Payne had just understanding the flexibility of your schedule I wanted to ask if you would be willing to take my place to review those applications sure okay thank you and then another thing that's important to to note is that we were originally scheduled today to have those uh to have interviews and and so we have pushed that back to November 1st but um before I had known any of and all of
these things I had already communicated uh some weeks ago that I am unable to attend the November 1st meeting I will be away for for work reasons and so um and also um however things play out on November 1st I would recuse myself from that vote anyhow um and so as things play out and we we look and consider what viable options are there again wanted to make sure that my colleagues had had an option um and I I will not be here but will look forward to seeing who is a pointed and and like I said I'm willing to at least step in on the on the front end but look forward to still invite any to submit an application uh for for this uh appointment with that we will go on ahead and
move to this the next area on our agenda which is 9.0 comments reports by student board members superintendent and cabinet and we will begin with our student board member so this is a high school's board report so it's just a high school celebrates the CTE manufacturing week with industry speakers as well as opportunities for mentoring sessions and chances to meet with industry professionals at the Azusa career center and the senior Lounge this we culminate with a field trip for CTE students to attend church solar Works in Pomona the combined Azusa Gladstone Banfield show placed third in a competition at Berlin High School this past weekend we are proud of the Aztecs and Gladiators working well together azusa's volleyball team won first place in the Mountain View League on Thursday night with a victory over Nogales

being three of those um they were engaged in uh coming up with uh values and how they're going to work uh with each other uh this school year uh they then got into the alcap and the alcap goals and finance and then um we had a yummy lunch and then after lunch um the three student board members had an opportunity to lead a conversation with the students on the student advisory Council regarding the Azusa High School mascot because the three student board members are actually on the Azusa High School mascot committee uh as part of student voice they do have other students on there but they're leading that way and so they did an amazing job with their peers in that room to have an open honest conversation about the mascot because what they were
after was to try and get as much knowledge and background and input as possible so that when they went to the mascot committee they would try to represent the voices that they are representing um the whole entire day as a whole um just really I want to uh Express how intuitive how thoughtful how uh poised articulate um insightful our students were um that day um we were just blown away uh at at the level of our students and so I just want to say thank you to the student advisory Council for that and thank you to our three student board members for leading uh part of that day uh and with that I just also want to mention that on Monday we had uh our first Azusa High School mascot committee uh meeting um it
went really well um as you can imagine this is not the easiest of topics with a lot of different uh viewpoints and angles and feelings um but uh the team has rolled up their sleeves uh and committed uh to um to finish and complete and the task at hand and so I just want to show my gratitude for the parents the staff uh the students the alumni the members of the indigenous Community um for for for being part of this um and just thankful uh for for their voice uh and so we have our next meeting scheduled uh for next Monday and good evening I was able to attend the Foothill Middle School report card night last Wednesday uh it was great to see another example of us returning back to face to face activities
and I was able to witness our wonderful teachers having very productive conversations with students parents and Guardians and I was able to participate on Thursday in the community event of the moving of the old school house uh and it was very very nice to be a part of a student history in that regard thank you good evening on Monday the business service directors were able to complete our first listening meeting our listening meetings um requires all of the directors under Business Services where we go to the school site and we dedicate an hour and a half and we just listen to the principal we do not set an agenda we utilize that time to do sidewalks we talk about any of their pressing items and I um we had a great discussion with Mr Horacio
at Valleydale so we're excited about that and the things to come um additionally um this week we will be starting off our kickoff meetings with all of our site principals um for our camera rollout and this is where we'll be discussing with them the days and the days their cameras will be deployed and where the locations are and then tomorrow at our ml they'll be getting their first run of how the security system actually works good evening um I just want to remind everybody that tomorrow night thing together we'll be hosting their lights on at Paramount Elementary School beginning at 4 30. um I also had an opportunity to attend the report card night at Slawson middle school and I just want to acknowledge the work and effort on behalf of the staff that they
take to prepare for those nights as well as the participation of families thank you with that that brings us to 10.0 General functions and we will look to 10.1 presentation of one-time funds ongoing funds carryover funds and projected expenditures and we will turn it over to Ms Latasha Damon good evening again um this uh presentation will be in collaboration with the fabulous Norma from Ed services and we'll be presenting on our current one-time funds our ongoing funds our carryover funds and the projected Associated expenditures we will start our presentation on our one-time funds so for our total allocation for a one-time fund um we were allocated approximately 69.3 million dollars um each of those allocations um come with Associated spin by years which we that would mean that we'd have to spend the funds by
those projected funding years we do have one category um which has a CNA which means currently not available from CDE meaning they have not identified when the funds must be expended by but we're going to go over each of the years of allocation the projected expenditures as well as it will identify if we currently have a balance or if there's any remaining allocation any questions all right so we're going to start with the first year so for the 20 the current fiscal year 22-23 we have 1.1 million dollars um that we are slated to spend by the end of this fiscal year um this allocation was received in three different grants we received the special education learning recovery support of 654 000 we received the kitchen infrastructure grant for 323 000 and we received a
dispute prevention and dispute resolution also special education funding um of 141 000 for all three allocations we currently do have plant expenditures and we'll go over each one in its entirety on the proceeding sites the learning recovery emergency block grant funds may be used to support academic learning recovery for students in special education we are utilizing our funds to help those learning gaps for students by providing additional support and hours for certificated and classified staff providing learning recovery programs and materials designed to accelerate student learning as well as supporting non-public agency Staffing costs and providing professional learning for classified and certificated staff okay now we'll move on to our kitchen infrastructure um this was a grant that school districts can apply for to upgrade their kitchen equipment as well as provide professional development we were
awarded 323 000 and we have until June 30th 2023 to spend the allocation and we are currently I'm planning to spend those funds to purchase hoding um hot Parts as well as upgrade our kitchen flooring detail equipment milk coolers purchase additional salad bar and provide professional development for our nutrition services staff this one-time fund is a portion to special education local plan areas to support districts in dispute prevention and voluntary alternative dispute resolution activities we are utilizing These funds up sorry about that I got ahead myself we are utilizing These funds to help prevent and resolve disputes resulting from Full disruption that stemmed from the covid-19 pandemic by providing additional hours to support certificated and classified staff and providing services to students offsetting settlement agreement costs and providing additional translation services for parents and families
now going to our second allocation that has a spin by date of next physical year 2324 approximately 9.7 million um those funds were received in one Grant which was our Esther II funds this is all tied to our covet related funds and will receive 9.7 million dollars and now we will go over the plant expenditure plan sr2 funds are part of the coronavirus response and relief supplemental Appropriations act to support the impact of covid-19 on students and communities the yeser funds could be used for a broad range of activity we are utilizing These funds to upgrade and update Furniture desks and seating and classrooms and and to support technology upgrades across the district why is an alligator coming out of there that's not the 3D printer but they are projecting on one of their new
panels one of those sites so we're not getting alligators that are not getting allocators you're not going to make an alligator with a 3D printer sorry all right so now we go to our third your allocation that has a spin by date of 24-25 fiscal year we received approximately 28.5 million dollars um the allocation um came to us in a form of approximately came in the form of six Grant two BNR Esser three funding that is broken up in infrastructure as well as instructional time um the spin by day for sr3 for the infrastructure is 17 I'm sorry the spin by date is by September 30th 2024 and the allocation was 17.6 million dollars we also have our sr3 instructional time that also has the same spin by date and we receive 4.4 million dollars
we've received our in-person instruction Grant um that has spin by date also all have September 2024 um we received three million dollars for our elog grant we received 2.9 Million Dollars and for our elog grant repair professional channels we receive 586 thousand dollars and lastly we received our homeless Grant and we received approximately 29 000. I have a question yes ma'am or do we still have that title for our professionals I thought it was removed um um we don't use this title but this is the title of the grant okay and it could be used for all staff or classified staff yes ma'am in it another another question when we see there it says uh homeless ARP is that is that the terminology of the of the grants per that we're seeing that is not
our terminology correct and to what extent do we do we have discretion to to not use the term homeless um or is that we we use that because that is what it means that because that's exactly what the grant is called yes but just for a point of reference and our financials it's all um allocated by resources so we don't use wordy in our own budgeting so but this is just the title of the brand for the sake of the presentation thank you good night on the homeless ARP Grant are we looking to reimagine what services we give for our students yes so we're going to outline all of our planned expenditures in the next slide all right so starting with our sr3 so you know we have this presentation and we talked about all
the great things that we were going to do with our facilities and we have 17.6 million dollars and we have until September 30th 2024 to um utilize those funds um the board approved plan included the HVAC I'm Heating and ventilation that was board approved in a previous meeting that we awarded the contract to will Dan we're also plan to do our shade structure and outdoor seating as well as upgrade some of our doors and windows on our facilities foreign funds that are to be used to address the academic impact of lost instructional time through the implementation of evidence-based intervention we have utilized These funds to provide extra hours for staff providing after school supports supporting initiatives for inclusive instructional materials this is the work that was led by the diversity equity and inclusion committee um
as well as providing high dosage tutoring for students during the school day and after the school day and for purchasing stem materials for our summer programming the expanded learning opportunities Grant the in-person instruction funds were provided to districts who were who offered in-person instruction I'm sorry can I say I just want to go back when you said summer school is that this theme um project that we had this summer yes so the kids that that we saw this summer when we visited um those were purchased with these funds yeah we will continue to utilize those kinds of stem experiential learning for the students and the staff they were very excited and you know to show us what the projects that came out of um these packets great so this was uh the in-person instruction funds
uh were provided um to districts who offered in-person instruction during the 2021 school year we have utilized These funds uh to provide extra hours for uh educated staff providing culturally relevant instructional materials um as well as opportunities for experiential learning for students um high dosage tutoring and the summer program our expanded learning opportunities uh Grant fund provided District um the opportunity to provide supplemental instruction and supports the students including those uh with identified need as well as social emotional supports we utilize These funds to hire additional certificated and classified staff providing also extra hours for those staff including mental health student supports through um some additional supports with some of our partners like McKinley and Foothill families we purchased uh materials that have been utilized in the implementation of the Seal program and again additional
funds for our summer programming and purchasing Universal screeners which is an assessment that we utilize in English language arts and math for students K-12 the expanded learning opportunities grant for paraprofessionals are funds from the ELO G grant that are earmarked for professional learning and hiring additional uh I remember both I um Miss Camacho can you speak a little bit to what the future plan would be when these Esser um I'm sorry when the elog funds are expended by 2020 uh September 2024 and then what would happen to these temporary hires those positions so the oh I'm sorry so um these additional staff that we hire [Music] um of so this is Theology and then this is our expenditures for the El ope the one that follows the elog paraprofessionals yeah so last year we hired
um temporary um tech support staff as well as instructional AIDS and um they were hired for a period of time beginning in August and um their end date was um in February of 2022. but those were temporary hires because they are um one-time funds so maybe I'm looking at so I guess that answers what we did with some funds that expired so that these these EOG funds for paraprofessionals the deadline is September 3rd it's 2024. and so similarly you're saying that these additional positions tech support AIDS Community right and then those positions they would then go through September 30th 2024 and then expire no we CH the the hiring of those temporary uh classified staff those were hired last year um we didn't bring them back this year there was just a temporary hire to
help us get through um building some of the gaps um at the beginning of the year and then the additional funds we are using for professional learning um additional hours because we know we can't keep that stuff on Beyond um the time constraints of of the funding and can you share with us how that um the addition of the staff and then the when those positions Sunset how that has affected the program so did you know do we get the Boost and then are we able to maintain that level of proficiency or achievement or is there any kind of slide back once those extra staff members are no longer with as far as the the Paras that we hired last school year so the tech support um came in to help us um get things
um distributed as far as additional um uh Chromebook then um resources that were coming through uh the district and the additional instructional AIDS um were hired short-term um just to provide some extra support and then we brought in the high dosage tutoring so they were in a sense kind of filling in some gaps until we were able to bring in additional support for for students about me thank you Roger spania yeah my question is so these are one-time funds are we able to reapply for these funds um to continue these programs or even apply for other grants not necessarily this right right there are other grants we could apply for but these grants will no longer be available and they're mainly due to the pandemic funds as they call that yes ma'am the cover relief
funds really fun yes ma'am but there is other grants in the future that we may be able to look into to continue some of these great things that are happening now potentially yes ma'am okay thank you the homeless American Rescue plan funds uh are provided to districts uh to support um our mckinney-vento education um to support homeless children and youth we are utilizing These funds to support any needs as far as short-term housing which would include um one or two nights of motel vouchers as well as school supplies Material supplies that any of our students McKinney Bento students would require as well as supporting transportation for them as well as additional tutoring um I think this is great um so the emergency services that we are providing one to two nights of vouchers what are
the connections that we have to shelters that you know that shelter families for example um uh or even teens right do we have a list of resources within the district um that are readily available right so open shelters that have um that families can go to um showers where they can go shower right these are like the little things that um do we connect them to God's Property here in Covina where they get once a week on Thursday they get meals and uh what is it clothing um what is the other one here in a snooze the um Pathfinders Ministry food bank on Friday right so do so um is this readily available for the you know for somebody who I mean we can say yeah it's on our website but when someone is experiencing
homelessness I think it's important for us to understand that we should have it ready available for them physically and guide them and I mean do we have a case manager for this um you know do we have uh do we have connection to an intake um you know can I can answer a question we have the Azusa vulture task force where we do house with mayor Ocha and we have a committee and um Alicia thought is sharp she's our connection and uh either through um turns um calling her or School employee and she does the intake of these families and we do house them for a week I'm not sure if it's connected to this and but we do housing for the week with um also giving them resources where they can turn to um
if needed so this is the this is about your task force through um mayor roach and myself and a few members in our committee this is great all right this is great I know this I know you know this but does our community know this well yes because we do good cases year by year um we have not because of pandemic it seems like it's kind of stopped but we have gotten three or four maybe five cases a year um right and we have housed them so so my next question would be you know are they connected to Pasadena Union Station homeless Services right where they can go ahead and um have the CIS team assess and be able to you know um also uh provide Bridge housing which can be connected to Lassa and
so forth and so just these are other opportunities um I don't know if our new case manager that we're or somebody is it who are we hiring again um so we currently have a district family a support specialist Alicia Torres sharp who serves as our homeless liaison so she um attends there's monthly meetings with Lake go and they connect um each district has um a person who fulfills that role of homeless liaison uh to to be the support provider for um families who who are in that situation particularly our students she also attends our monthly Community Liaisons meetings so that Community Liaisons are aware of the supports that are available um so that if they have families um who have some specific needs they connect they connect them with Alicia okay I'm sorry just so
if somebody was and I'm just saying this hypothetically if there was a family living in their car what they would have to do is call the district and ask for Alicia Torres Sharp is that the department or I mean what department would though she's part of student Support Services which was formerly known as child welfare and attendance um and um she has her office here in the district office and do we have a page um with this information on our website but I I believe she's under the the tab of student Support Services foreign going to our next category we have allocation of 4.7 million dollars with the spin by date of the 2526 physical year we received this allocation in the form of two grants one being the Arts music instructional material Grant um
it's important to note that this is an estimate only um CDE has not completed their calculation formula that they're going to be utilizing so this is our preliminary allocation we received four million dollars we also receive the a through G completion Improvement Grant of 715 000 both grants have a spend by date of June 30th 2026. the art music instructional materials Grant is provided to districts to obtain standards aligned uh materials as well as provide professional development and specified areas and develop diverse and culturally relevant book collections the Department California Department of Education will be hosting a funding webinar on these funds on Wednesday October 19th which is tomorrow so I will be attending that as well so we are looking to utilize These funds to um upgrade instructional materials in the following subject areas
which include financial literacy um uh adoption for history and social science materials for Elementary programs mathematics programs which will be coming in a few years um as well as supplemental materials for Science and visual performing arts and a textbook textbook adoptions for our world languages programs the a through G completion uh brand is a grant that was provided to districts to support students in meeting the a through G requirements and we are utilizing These funds to provide students access to courses um as well as providing professional development for staff so they can attend conferences and training and to provide students who are not beating Targets in their a through G courses additional supports by way of tutoring and intervention These funds are also utilized to cover testing fees for AP test nib now go on
to our next allocation with a spin by date of 27.28 we received 12.5 million dollars um this too is also an estimate of but this grant title is learning recovery block grant and the spend by date currently is June 30th 2028. a learning recovery um emergency block grant funds can be used to support learning recovery initiatives support academic learning recovery and support uh pupil social emotional well-being we are you sorry um we are looking to utilize These funds to support um some of the programming that we shared with the board at the previous study session so because these funds have a later spend by date we are looking um to utilize These funds to support the enhancement and expansion of some of the programming that we shared as we move into reorganization implementation of program
and um utilizing the input that we gain from our community schools development teams as they come together after school reorganization so you'll see that there isn't a slide to go with this fund funding source yet um because these are the funds that we are hoping to utilize to support some of those program expansion and enhancements and to our last category for our one-time fund allocation um we received 12.5 million dollars um This was um allocated to us in the form of three grand one the educator Effectiveness I'm sorry eat or grants elop Grant we receive 9.7 million dollars for our educator effective Grant we received 2.5 million dollars for the universal Pre-K planning and implementation Grant we received 197 000 and for ethnic studies we receive fifty six thousand dollars currently all four grants early
does not have a set spin by date um so we're waiting for CDE to identify the date that we have to spend the funds by but here's our plan expenditure plan the expanded learning opportunities uh programming funds provide funds for after school and summer enrichment programs for transitional kindergarten through sixth grade so expanded learning means before school after school summer or intercession learning programs we are utilizing our funds to support our before-school care for our Elementary programs we utilize These funds to support the day camp offering that we partnered with the city of Azusa we also are looking to utilize These funds to support eight field trips this year we also utilize These funds for our Gate Summer programming that we offered last year and will continue to offer and these funds also support the
intercession programming which will be offered when school is out for a period of time last year we offered it during spring break so this year we will be expanding that to other intercession periods who is the gate advisor or all levels so each school has a gate coordinator and when we say uh gate field trips would that be by school by grade so there's um there's different ways that we are from so we haven't offered them since pre-covered but some of the trips that students were able to take included going to the Festival of books so they were kind of enrichments oftentimes the gate coordinators would get together and identify some trips that they were interested in taking the gate students on and um at the district level our director of Educational Services Adriana Garcia
Medina is who is working with the psych 8 coordinators and she will be supporting them in identifying um which trips they would like to take students to and sometimes they are separated by grade level because because the nature of the age of the students I heard that in in past before covet a gate Bill trips uh that they used the the Gold Line yes and they used their the right here Covina as well that they use their public transportation to get to where they needed to go so um that that looking at Buzz tokens and not bus tokens what do you go a Tap bar or Tap bar yes right is that something that we as a district will look into as well yes we are going to be getting those for all of our
students oh education educator Effectiveness funds are intended to be used to support professional learning for certificated staff administrators and classifieds we are utilizing These funds to support some dual language immersion professional development as we look to extend our DLI program into the middle school next year we are also utilizing These funds to support the professional learning for our early learning seal which includes the preschool and transitional kindergarten teachers literacy support at the secondary level as well as the elementary level this is a partnership that we have with Dr Nancy achavan who is currently working with teachers at Lee school as well as some our secondary schools we are also utilizing these funds to support the professional learning that we are partnering with Western Justice and restorative practices and trauma-informed practices as well as some professional
learning for our special education staff the seal expansion and some new teacher support that we are offering this year and we are using the word new teacher support to also include teachers who came aboard during distance learn distance learning who you know need need some additional support as they have come back to in-person instruction the universal Pre-K planning and implementation Grant is provided to districts as we expand the universal TK and we are utilizing These funds to support our TK six hour bilingual instructional AIDS and all of our TK classrooms purchasing additional TK instructional materials and to support professional learning for our TK instructional AIDS as well as teachers that was the cutest picture I was gonna ask do we have those masks and adult sizes that that's an example of some of the things
that they do with the CL programming they become um chemists they become astronomers they become all kinds of great things so a lot of fun yeah next studies funds are to support districts in the implementation of the new requirements for ethnic studies we are utilizing These funds to purchase materials and supplies for our new ethnic studies courses as well as our Latino studies course at uh Sierra Azusa and Gladstone High School we are also utilizing These funds to support the first professional learning of our staff who are teaching the ethnic studies courses in history and Ela as well as providing time for teachers to develop the units for the history ethnic studies course as well as the ethnic studies course in English language arts so that will conclude the presentation on one-time funds and so
now we're going to transition to ongoing and carryover funds we currently have three allocation of funding that is either ongoing or carryover so we have our 2122 supplemental concentration carryover of 5.5 million dollars we have our concentration ad on a grant which is carryover from 2122 that's 2.7 million dollars and we have our concentration add-on for the current fiscal year 2223 of 3.1 million dollars starting with our constant supplemental concentration carryover on the 5.5 million dollars we are utilizing the fund for professional learning in our Innovation Labs we are going to continue with our technology upgrades which includes classroom cabling or interactive channels paging system and voice lift inside of our classroom um it's also important to note that the reason why we have the 5.5 million dollar carryover is because we had a robust
funding allocation of one-time funds that had a more expedited spin by date so we're able to utilize those funds to cover our plant expenditures and our lcap um but because we wanted to be prudent and not just let the funds fall to our Indie fund balance we assigned the fund so we can continue to utilize the funds for the goals that are set aside in our lcap we also have our concentration add-on from 2122 we received 2.7 million dollars um again we're going to utilize this for combo support teacher and res resident sub teachers as well as explore the idea of implementing a social worker position in our district um but again we have this carryover also because we utilize our one-time funds to provide in Prior years our combo support and Resident substitute teachers
and for our current year allocation um 2223 concentration add-on allocation um we are receiving 3.1 million dollars and we will utilize those funds to continue our combo support to our teachers also continue our resident substitute teachers at our sites and continue to explore Addie the social work position into our popular employment population and with that we would like to say thank you and open up to any additional questions that there may be any questions I like how you're making that dollar [Laughter] it you know thank you for your presentation um I I know that we have a lot of questions a lot of probably pragmatic questions and I I hope that um uh I mean they're in my head right now but I'm trying so hopefully I can email you guys um and if you
guys don't mind answering uh the whole board if that okay then we will move on to 11.0 consent calendar and specifically 11.1 approval of consent calendar and so all matters listed under the consent calendar are considered by the Board of Education to be routine it will be enacted in one motion there will be no discussion of these matters unless requested by a board member if a board member requests discussion that item will be removed from the consent calendar and considered it separately with that is there emotion on the floor regarding item 11.8 11.8 so are you do you move to approve 11.1 with the exclusion of 11.8 yes I make motion but did anyone second that second okay then we will go ahead and move to vote to approve 11.1 with the exclusion of 11.8
