002vice president we equally have our opinions and that's what makes us great and I'm very proud of this part of the work that we have done in the last year and I am very eager to get back to work thank you very much okay now we're moving on to 5.0 recognitions and awards we do have a new student board member and that is from high school so we're gonna give you the Florida we wanted to hear a little bit about about you told Mike please do not be shy this is a great opportunity we love speed an input air here works on behalf of you so please I was and it's pretty cool to be like this yeah [Applause] we will I will turn to you and ask you for your preferential vote so it
003is at that point that you can if you have any questions whatsoever please feel free to ask questions let us know your opinion we need that okay so now we're moving onto my way to this is recognition or reduce on high school marching band evening as you are lower we have an outstanding music education program in this district beginning in elementary school and middle school and culminating in high school and tonight we have an opportunity we'd like to recognize both the Azusa and Gladstone high school marching bands or their outstanding achievements during the 2017 marching season and what I would like to do is tell you a little bit about some of the awards and we'll start with the dues of high school first I'll tell you the recognitions that they have to achieve and
004I will invite the band directors to come forward and bring their their student leadership our drum majors and our leadership students to come to the podium to thank you words so Zuza high school this year it's very exciting they enter the Southern California school band and orchestra Association championships in the 3a division there are 27 groups that decision and Azusa High School placed sixth place in with the championships and they were up six places from last year they also received first place in the three division at the Ramona field tournaments their percussion was awarded first place at the South Hills field tournament and overall Azusa high school finished their season with the highest score from the past two years right our band director at Azusa high school mr. Bill Fritz to come to the podium
005and then bring his students up here and introduce them in the other one I thank you for allowing us to be here tonight and for recognizing as our program it means a lot to us makes the kids happy of course so tonight we have some leadership it was just high school first our to throw majors our lead ladies sort of speak Ashley for Edison case for very our food captains our Woodman captain Joey Mia and our brass captain Michael Rodriguez [Applause] Vinny Perez absolutely actually Ashley Ashley's brother position is dissolved behind the scenes work so he did a fantastic job work a good team of Lobos of eight kids on a manager a general team they did a fantastic job so great job you guys on a great season and then I'll be moving to
006all of our spring stuff and Jazz Band contraband and it's just still full steam ahead of this kids are practicing every single day you're on the campus of Azusa High School for sure you're going to be hearing instruments being played so that's the best encouragement of us the way it goes so thank you very very much so I like to use District Board of Education and recognize this is a high school marching band so their outstanding achievement during the 2017 marching season presenting this 12th day of December of 2017 signed by dr. min to Kaminsky and present my work president Helen got a meal any parents here it'll be sad you know I know they're the ones that have wait for the kids to come home and go to my big one take a picture
007[Applause] Gladstone high school this year they entered the Mayfair competition and they received first place orbán Capistrano Valley competition and also received first place for van gorgiano competition second place band first place percussion sound Taylor's competition first place band also in the California state banks championships in their division there are 28 bands in the semi-finals they placed fourth and in the finals they placed fifth congratulations LA County Fair this fall as well and so now I would like to invite Joseph Calderon who is our band director at mudstone high school to come to the podium and introduce his leadership students as well thank you board for recognizing us the band of the kids and the program they work extremely hard and I know mr. Fritz and myself continue to push them and set the bar
008higher and higher and like you said it doesn't slow down it just changes season and right now we're in our concert season or jasmine our being ready for festival to the string and our festivals for our concert programs if you guys are they don't know we do have our holiday weather concert on December 20th which is Wednesday at 7 o'clock at the school again we'd like to thank the board for recognizing our students and all the hard work they're they're the first ones there is no period and a lot of times with the last ones to leave we just left sectionals getting ready for a holiday concert about an hour and a half ago so I'm just solving and longing to do good so I come out next next week enjoying the program getting to
009the quality of festivities by listening to some great music jazz music [Applause] what is education here boys recognizes Rustom high school marching band for their outstanding achievement during the 2017 marching season presenting this 12th day of December 2017 signed by dr. 010wait wait wait till the end after they've earned all of their recognitions and you guys were right you've done such a great job worked really hard I'm very very happy for you thank you surprise tonight we definitely want to take the time to recognize a couple people dr. Linda Kaminsky was recently recognized by the Los Angeles County of education as their superintendent of the year their first ever out of 21 superintendents she was selected and and we were there the question Yolanda and myself we were able to attend the ceremony and it was it was very special to see that to see that kind of leadership out there amongst amongst other school districts that says a lot for our school district oh please thank you first of all congratulations to the band members from Azusa
011blasto high school and your teachers and outstanding achievements good evening members of the governing board administration and guests my name is Mike Kendricks I'm the superintendent of Charter Oak Unified School District I'm also a longtime member of the board of directors for the California ased I'm here tonight on behalf of California ASCD Board of Directors to present dr. Kaminsky with the outstanding instructional leader award for 2017 the award is designed to acknowledge and honor educators who have made significant contributions to student learning and to influencing and advocating for professional growth and instructional leadership dr. obtain Oh mrs. Rodriguez opinion and many others nominated endorsed and endorsed dr. Chris Kaminski for this award dr. Kaminsky has been extremely valuable member of the board of directors for California ased and is also well known throughout California for
012monatomic with AXA she's been involved in local regional and statewide efforts to improve curriculum instruction and assessment for students and educators for many years she has also been a legislative advocate for local statewide issues it's my honor and privilege to present this award tonight and it's awesome and my privilege to work with month later for many years of various organizations committees and projects congratulations dr. Kaminsky for your well-deserved recognition [Applause] one more thing when we break and I do have to mention this because this is really important as well we just recently got back from the California School Board Association conference annual conference and and I'm so just honored to work with this human being that you know you this work doesn't stop here I mean when you when you see four members advocating again
013at the state level at the national level being a voice not just for this district but further for other school districts and students everywhere Sheila those photons was recently was recently voted in as vice president of California School Board Association [Applause] so anyway we so right we're getting attention in Greek there are some transcripts out of the dock so please feel free and website and and have some treats and pay yourself for a little bit and we'll be back at 7:00 how about 7:30 - thank you
