Are you guys ready [music] to get started? Yes, thank you. All right, good evening everyone and welcome to our parent award night. Tonight is especially meaningful because this is the first year that we are bringing all of our programs together, combining both leadership and learning. To celebrate the incredible dedication of our families, we are truly excited about what this represents. As a district, we are proud to walk alongside our parents. Together, we are building strong partnerships in support of our students' success and tonight is a reflection of that shared commitment. This evening, we celebrate the hard work and perseverance of our parents who have dedicated hours to learning, growing, and leading. We are honored to recognize 374 Parent University graduates. Wow! >> 101 CBET graduates, 14 PAL Ambassadors, >> [cheering] >> and 161 PAL participants.

So, before we begin tonight's celebration, I would like to take a moment for the flag salute. Join me in welcoming to the stage the son of two of tonight's graduates, Mr. Michael Cavazos of Jefferson Elementary. Good evening. Please stand. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. You may be seated. Let's give a round of applause to Mr. Cavazos. Thank you so much. We'd like to take a moment to recognize and thank several individuals for their invaluable support of our families and our programs. Before we begin, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge a few important groups. First, a thank you to our our band, Black Out Entertainment, for setting

the tone for tonight. We appreciate your energy and talent. To our esteemed Bakersfield City School District Board of Education, I offer my deepest thanks for your unwavering commitment to family engagement. Your support has made a lasting impact. Special thanks to Board President, Mrs. Laura Guerrero Salgado, President Pro Tem, Mrs. Brooke Malloy Alt, Clerk Pro Tem, Mr. Mike Eggert, and also to Clerk, Dr. Chris Cruzboom, and Member, Mr. Anthony Fuentes. BCSD is fortunate to have leadership that values strong home-school partnerships and understands the vital role that family engagement plays in student success academically, socially, and emotionally. A sincere thank you to our Superintendent, Dr. Carling Aguilera Ford, and to his cabinet, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Laura Orozco, Acting Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Mike Havens, and Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, Sherry Gladden. So, let's

take a moment to recognize an incredible group of leaders who make this work possible every single day. A huge thank you to our executive leadership team for your vision, guidance, and commitment to ensuring our schools have what they need to support both students and families. And to our amazing principals and assistant principals, you are the heartbeat of our campuses. Your leadership, your presence, and your dedication truly make a difference. If you are part of our district or site leadership, please stand so we can recognize you. If we could have the house lights on, please. I know that our prince We have lots of principals up at the top. Thank you so much for being here tonight. And to our executive leadership, thank you for being here as well. And now, a very special shout-out to

our incredible BCSD FACE Liaisons across all 44 school sites. Yes, let's hear it for them. You are truly the heart of this work. You are champions for our families, relationship builders, and powerful advocates who uplift and empower parents every single day to support their children's education. We see you and we appreciate you, and tonight we celebrate you as well. Let's give our FACE team a huge, well-deserved round of applause. This year, Parent University looked a little different. Each of our school sites hosted classes, which expanded access in bringing learning directly to our families. This would not have been possible without the collaboration and the dedication of our principals and assistant principals, our academic coaches, behavior intervention specialist, school psychologist, campus supervisors, and of course, our incredible FACE Liaisons. Your commitment to showing up for our

families has made a lasting impact, and we thank you. I also want to apologize for my voice. I have a cold. I'm not nervous, promise. I'd also like to extend our appreciation to our interpreters providing both Spanish translation and American sign language this evening. Thank you for ensuring that all of our families can fully access and engage in tonight's celebration. Also, thanks to our multilingual education program led by Mr. Alfonso Ceja for bringing ESL courses to our parents through the CBET program. We are proud to celebrate 101 parents who have completed an intensive 40-hour course. And finally, a huge thanks >> [clears throat] >> to my incredible FACE team at the district office, Ms. Teya Fingers, Paulina Mora Fernandez, Christie Mesa, Susie Gallardo, Erica Camarena Gomez, Patty Silva, and Tracy Rush. Your hard work behind

the scenes make everything possible, so thank you. And now, I want to take a moment to speak directly to our VIPs for the evening, our parents who are being honored tonight. Because let's be honest, tonight is really all about you. Yes, give it up. It's for you. So, you made a choice. You made a choice to show up even on the days that you were tired. You made a choice to learn even when life was busy. A choice to grow, not just for yourselves, but for your children. And I know it wasn't always easy. Some of you came to classes after long work days. Some of you brought your younger children with you. And let's be real, there were probably moments when you thought, "Why did I sign up for this?" But you kept coming

back. You showed commitment and you showed courage, and most importantly, you showed your children what it means to never stop learning. And that matters more than you may ever realize. Because while you were sitting in those sessions, taking notes, asking questions, and growing as leaders, your children were watching. You are their first teacher. You're their biggest role model. Their example of what perseverance looks like, and tonight is not just a celebration of what you completed, it's a celebration of who you are. You are leaders. You are advocates, and you are partners in this work with us. And we are so proud to walk alongside you. So, tonight, as you walk across this stage, I hope you feel celebrated, valued, and incredibly proud of yourselves, because you've earned this moment. So, congratulations. At this time, it

is my great honor to introduce to the stage our district superintendent, Dr. Carling Aguilera Ford. >> Oh, you might need to turn it on. Okay. Thank you, Miss Didi. Before I get it started, please join me in giving Miss Didi and her team a big round of applause. Thank you. Buenas noches. Good evening, everyone. Magandang umaga. Congratulations to each and every one of you, to all the honorees of the class of 2026. Today marks the completion of a program, but it's above and beyond a program. This adventure reflects the courage to grow, your commitment to learning, and your dedication to being present and engaged in your child's education within the Bakersfield City School District. You made the intentional choice to invest your time, energy, and love into something meaningful. Along the way, you were able

to build knowledge, strengthen your voice, and deepen your connection to your child's school and to the Bakersfield City School District. These will impact not only your family, but the family of every single child that comes to our schools across the district. Through your participation, you have gained tools, confidence, and you have built relationships, and leadership. You have gained a lot of tools and pieces that will allow you to be an advocate, but also to shape the community of the schools that you are in. You are demonstrating that working together, you will shape and you're shaping the future of your child's life. Today, we are celebrating each and every one of you. We are also thanking you for the work, for the commitment, and for believing in the Bakersfield City School District, for believing in our

schools, and for believing every single person that every single day is welcoming and educating your child. You have gained the tools to advocate, but also to support, and most importantly to partner with all of us in the Bakersfield City School District. You're ready to take on a new level of involvement, and for that, we congratulate, but we thank you as well. You have accomplished a lot throughout this year. Let's continue the partnership. Let's continue building the impact. Y sigamos adelante. Muchísimas gracias y felicitaciones a cada uno de ustedes. Now, it is my pleasure and my honor to introduce you the president of the Bakersfield City School Board of Education, Miss Laura Guerrero Salgado. Miss Guerrero. Woo! It's a full house. Are you guys ready to celebrate? I want to say that I'm proud of each

and every one of you. And I hope that even if you're moving on to the high school, you get connected with the parent centers there. And on behalf of the Bakersfield City School District Board of Education, it is my honor to recognize and celebrate the parent award honorees for the class of 2026. Tonight, we celebrate more than a completion of a program. We celebrate your commitment to growth, your leadership, and your dedication to your children and our schools. Each of you made a choice to be present, to learn, and to engage in a way that strengthens not only your family, but our entire district. Your involvement sends a powerful message. When families and schools work together, students thrive. You are now even more equipped to support, to advocate, and to lead. And that impact will

be felt far beyond this evening. We are proud to have you as partners in the Bakersfield City School District. Your voice matters. Your leadership matters, and your continued involvement will help shape the future of our students. Congratulations, class of 2026. Thank you for your commitment, and enjoy this well-deserved celebration. Thank you. Thank you, Dr. Aguilera Ford and Mrs. Guerrero Salgado for your leadership and consistent support of our BCSD families. Let's give them another round of applause. Now, it is my honor to introduce tonight's parent keynote speaker, Mr. Israel Cavazos from Jefferson Elementary. When When Israel is not dressing up as the Grinch and bringing joy to our students, he is deeply involved in his child's education, participating in parent university classes, engaging in journal writing sessions, attending PAL Leadership Academies, and advocating for students through

his service on the District Advisory Committee. Israel represents what it means to truly partner with schools. Please help me warmly welcome Mr. Israel Cavazos. >> [cheering] >> All right, class. We made it. Good evening, everybody. It's truly an honor to be here tonight as we celebrate this milestone together. When I was first asked what Parent University and PALs have done for me, I thought about it. And honestly, I asked myself, where do I even begin? Because what this journey has given me goes far beyond workshops, meetings, or lessons. It's changed the way I see my child, my role as a parent, and the world around me. Parent University gave me something I didn't even realize I needed, perspective. It helped me understand that reaching my child isn't about having all the answers, but learning new

strategies, being open to change, and meeting them where they are. It taught me how to listen differently, how to communicate more effectively, and how to respond with intention instead of reaction. It helped me to bridge gaps between my child, their school, and between my family and the community, and even within myself. And that to me has become a passion because when those gaps close, connection grows, and that's where real change happens. Along the way, I met incredible people, parents, just like me, who deeply care about their children and their futures. We came together as strangers, but through sharing our stories, we became something more. We laughed together, we cried together, and we lifted each other up. What we built wasn't just a support group, we built a family, a bigger family. PALs and Parent University

also strengthened my voice. It taught me how to be a better communicator and a stronger collaborator. It showed me that my voice matters, not just in my home, but in my child's school and community. Times have changed so much since many of us were in school. The challenges our children face today are different, but Parent University met that challenge head-on by providing meaningful, engaging, and professional development. It gave me tools to think critically, to stay resilient, and to continue growing not just as a parent, but as a person. It helped me set clearer goals, not just for myself, but for my family. It empowered me. It reminded me that growth is ongoing, and that we are capable of becoming better better versions of ourselves. Together, we learned how to collaborate, how to communicate, how to

problem-solve, and how to stand strong through challenges. Together, we became resilient learners. Together, we became critical thinkers. So, when I'm asked what Parent University and PALs have done for me, I can say this. They didn't just teach me how to support my child, they transformed the way I showed up for my child. They didn't just connect me to resources, they connected me to people and purpose, and to possibility. They changed the future of my family. They didn't just give me tools, they gave me confidence and a voice. And every parent here tonight, this is bigger than us. And one of the biggest lessons I've learned, one I want every parent to take with them tonight is this. Showing up matters. Showing up for TSS meetings, showing up for IEPs, showing up for parent-teacher conferences, even

when life is busy, even when it's hard, even when we feel unsure. Because our children need us in those rooms. Success doesn't happen by accident, it happens through connection, through communication, by being present and involved. When we sit at the table with teachers, staff, and principals, we become partners in our children's education. We advocate, we ask questions, we share what others might not see, and that collaboration and teamwork are what help our children truly succeed. What we are building doesn't stop at our homes. It reaches into our schools, it strengthens our communities, and it shapes the next generation. So, keep showing up, keep speaking up, keep staying involved because your presence in those rooms, your voice in those conversations, and your partnership with your child's school is the difference. And one day, when your child

stands strong, confident, and ready to take on the world, you'll know it started with you. Thank you, Israel, for reminding us of the power and importance of being actively involved in our children's education. Your story is inspiring, and your commitment is a reflection of what is possible when families and schools work together. All right. So, at this time, we will have the Cavasso gentlemen return to their seats. Let's give them another big round of applause. As our speakers are returning to their seats, we will begin our recognition portion of the evening. So, will our Parent University recipients please begin making your way toward the stage? And for our families, friends, and guests, we'd like to take a moment to share the meaning of the ceremonial items our honorees are wearing this evening. Our Parent University

graduates are wearing a gold stole. Our SEABED honorees are also recognized with a gold cord. Our PAL Ambassadors are wearing a white cord, and our Parents as Leaders, or PALs, are proudly wearing a ceremonial pin. Each of these symbols represent the time, commitment, and leadership our parents have demonstrated through their journey. So, what I want you to also notice is that there are some parents that have have multiple uh ceremonial gear on tonight. So, you will notice that parents I have completed more than just one program. And we want to recognize all of their accomplishments this evening. So, all right, this is your moment. Um before we begin, we do have a large number of graduates to celebrate. So, in order to ensure that we honor everyone this evening, we will be moving through the

names with joy and intention, and our ushers will be guiding each of our graduates to the stage. We will begin with our Parent University graduates, and we will like to just to let everyone know, because it's always the first group that sets the tone. So, this front row, this is all for you to show everyone how it's done. So, you'll come up, and you will hand me your card, and wait for me to um stand right here as I as I read off your school site and the programs that you've completed, and then you will uh cross the stage. All right. So, after receiving your certificate, you will please exit to the left side of the stage, where our ushers will also guide you safely back to your seat, and we encourage all of our

graduates to return to their seats quickly and quietly to allow for all honorees to be acknowledged. So, thank you, and congratulations to all our graduates. We're proud of you. So, let's begin. 039want to pause for just a moment to reflect on what we have witnessed here this evening. This was not just an awards night. This was a celebration of growth, a celebration of commitment, and most importantly, a celebration of partnership. To our parents, you remind us why this work matters, and you made the choice to show up. They are learning from your perseverance when you showed up tonight and when you showed up every day. On behalf of the district, our schools, and every person who walked alongside you in this journey, thank you. Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for growing with us, and thank you for reminding us that when families and schools work together, there is nothing our students cannot achieve. We are proud of you. Drive safely tonight, celebrate safely, and we are

extremely proud of you and hope to see you again next year. Have a good night, everyone.
