001Mhm. >> Mhm. >> And now And now if Mr. Rocco Ramirez, ASB president, and Ms. Isabella Aguilar, ASB vice president, please join me on the stage. >> [applause] >> Will everyone who is able to stand, please stand or remain standing. >> Present the colors. Present the colors. >> Color guard. Halt. Forward. Halt. Left. Left, right, left, left, left, right, left, left, left, right, >> Center, face. FREEZE, HALT. >> Please remain standing with your right hand over your heart and um oh, sorry. Please place your right hand over your heart and uh remain standing as Mr. Dwight sings our national anthem. >> Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, whose broad stripes and bright stars [singing] through the perilous fight, for the ramparts

002we watched, were so gallantly streaming? mean. And rockets' red [screaming] glare, the bombs bursting in gave proof through the night [singing] that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner [screaming] yet wave for the land of the [screaming] free and the home of the brave? >> [screaming] [cheering] [applause] >> Please remain standing with your right hand over your heart and join me in the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> [cheering] [applause] >> Please remain standing. >> [laughter] >> All right. My students are going to remain standing. Everybody else, you can take a seat. >> [cheering] [laughter] >> All right, students, watch me. They

003practiced that. I had to let them do it. Did they do a great job or what? >> [cheering] [applause] >> Okay. Welcome families, friends, Barstow Community College faculty and staff, City of Barstow dignitaries and community members, all of those attending online. We're live streaming this event. And most of all now, welcome to our eighth grade promoting class. >> [cheering] [applause] >> I will not translate every portion of this speech, but I do want you to know that I plan to translate the very first portion because it comes with a very special announcement. We have a record 12 students at Barstow Junior High School who at the start of this year were designated English learners or multilingual learners. And they have just completed a series of assessments and met all four requirements to be reclassified in

004the coming year. That means they will no longer need to take a separate class to help them progress in English. It means they've reached overall a level four. It's really hard to do. 12 students. You can clap for that. >> [applause] [applause] >> And eight of those 12 students are also promoting eighth graders. And it just so happens that for all eight, Spanish is the other language that is spoken in the home. So, to honor their families, them, and their parents, I will translate just this first portion of my speech. Congratulations to those students and their families. They know who they are. >> [applause] [applause] >> And it's at the beginning of the year multilingual Yes, it's very difficult. That's a lot, and I'm very proud. >> [applause] [applause] >> So we have more than

005200 student names in the program book for tonight. Each of the students listed in that program met the academic standard required to officially be promoted from Barstow Junior High School. It's not automatic. That means they either ended the year with at least a C average or they had a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.0 C average over the course of their time at BJHS. This year a little more than 73% of our students in eighth grade met that standard. And they have all earned the right to be celebrated. Before the night is over, I will have the distinct honor and privilege of shaking each of their hands as they walk across this stage. And since that may take a while, I promise I will make this brief. I begin with gratitude. Thank you first

006and foremost to the family members, community members, and also unofficial family members, you know who you are, who are here tonight to celebrate these young people. Thank you for the countless hours you have spent raising, supporting, inspiring, nagging, and providing for them. To be fair, this night is as much or more about you as it is about them. Thank you also to every educator in this room in every role, in every position. Thank you to our BJHS teachers for the time, passion, and love they have given to make the last 2 years as meaningful and productive as they possibly could for this promoting class. Thank you to our amazing campus supervisors, our maintenance and operations staff, our bus drivers, our office staff, our library staff, our custodial staff, our nutrition services staff. Your smiles, your

007kindness, your support, your hard work have meant more to these students than you may ever know. But thank you most of all to the students sitting in front of me. This is the very first time that I get to stand before a promoting class of Barstow Junior High School and say that I have had the honor and privilege of serving as your principal for both years that you were on this campus, and I could not be more proud. And as most of you have finally come to realize, even when I'm the one nagging you, I truly love you. Thank you for the gift of being my students. If you hear nothing else tonight, hear this. You matter. You're special. You are uniquely talented. You were wonderfully created, and you are capable of changing the world

008if you will only dare to do so. >> [applause] [cheering] [applause] >> Joy J. Gulliver once said, "The meaning of life is to to your gift, and the purpose of life is to give it away. Promoting class of 2026, almost Aztec class of 2030. My hope and prayer for each of you is that you move on to high school and you spend the next four years finding your gifts, your passions, whatever those may be. And that you would have the courage to allow special people to come into your lives and to develop those gifts and encourage those gifts and to speak life into you. And that then you would spend the rest of your life giving those gifts away to the world around you. You have some incredible examples of students already living out their

009gifts in this room. And I hope that you have been as inspired by them as I have over the last two years. And I hope that you learn from them. Students like Miana Norris and Sofia Bernal, I hope you take risks like they do. That you never stop trying new things. That you have the courage to get up on a stage whenever you have the chance, no matter who's watching. Like Mitchell Glenn and Connor Wood, I hope you let yourself think deeply about the world around you and that you're not afraid to speak up or ask hard questions even when people don't expect them and they might not be ready for them. I hope you put time and effort into being great students like Michaela Khan, Giovanni Escobar, and Bogart Garcia Ocampo. >> [cheering] [applause]

010>> I hope you dance whenever there is music like Zyra Tate and Andia Brown. [screaming] >> [cheering] [applause] >> May you brighten someone's day every day with a fist bump or a good morning like Jordan Castro and Aiden Foster. >> [applause] >> May you be kind and loving to literally everyone like Emily Ann Pena and Anaya Astorga. >> [applause and cheering] >> If you play sports, may you leave everything out on the field or the court every time you step onto it and never forget you're a student first like Andrew Gonzales and Aleah Thrash. >> [applause] >> May you have the quiet and polite confidence of Maleah Wyckoff and Dylan Cordova. >> [applause] >> Or the smiles that light up a room like Jacena Alapati, KAMARI EVANS [screaming] >> [cheering] >> KAMARI EVANS AND Maleah

011Applewhite. >> [cheering] >> May you rock every acting opportunity you are ever given like Aubrey Diaz, JONATHAN HERRERA, AND Zoe Flannery. >> [cheering] >> May you have the courage to be uniquely you, whoever that is. Whether that's making your own costumes from scratch like Rocco Ramirez, >> [cheering] [applause] >> or being just as comfortable in football pads and on a wrestling mat as you are in a pageant dress like Acela Lambert. >> [cheering] [applause] >> May you set goals and work hard to achieve them, even hard goals like improving by 126 points on your next i-Ready exam like Jolene Reynolds. >> [applause] >> The truth is that I would be here all night if I tried to tell you how amazing you all are and the gifts that I already see so clearly in each

012one of you. But we have a lot to get through tonight, so I guess the last thing I want you to hear me say is that whatever it is you become passionate about whatever your gifts please don't stop growing them and please don't push away those people who are constantly on your case. The ones that nag you, correct you, encourage you, and push you to be better. I have no doubt that many of those people are actually probably in this room right now. It's okay, you can clap for that. We need you. >> [applause] [applause] >> You see, what I didn't know going into high school that I know so well now is that those people that were nagging me and pushing me were the people that already saw the gifts in me I didn't

013know existed. So I beg you, don't avoid them. Those people that are going to push you are the people who see your gifts and they are gifts that this world desperately needs. So let them push you. And when you do find your gifts, don't be afraid to give them away to the world around you. Share them with others because they are the only ones of their kind. And as you promote to the high school, know this. You promote with an entire BJHS community around you and behind you. We will always be somewhere in the background loving you and cheering you on. So congratulations class of 2026. I love you more than life. >> [cheering and applause] [applause] >> And it's almost time for you to go do bigger and better things and make us proud.

014And with that, I would like my assistant principal, your assistant principal, Ms. Reyes, to come up to the mic to share some words of wisdom. >> [applause] >> All right. Good evening, everyone. First of all, can we all please take a moment to appreciate that you made it? Like seriously, you survived middle school, and parents and guardians, if you remember those days, you definitely know that it deserves an applause. So, let's give it up for the eighth grade class. [applause] >> [cheering] >> Okay. All right. To the eighth graders, today is a big deal. You're standing at this weird, exciting, slightly terrifying bridge between middle school and high school. One chapter is ending and another is about to begin. And I know some of you are thinking, "I'm ready." While others are secretly thinking, "Wait,

015am I am I supposed to know where I'm going?" Well, here's some wisdom from me to you. High school may seem like this giant mountain right now. New classes, new teachers, new people, more responsibilities. And yes, probably hallways so big you'll get lost at least once, maybe twice. I've been at the high school, so it's happened to me a couple times. But here's the truth. High school isn't about having it all figured out. It's about figuring yourself out. And let me tell you something important. You do not need to be perfect. You don't have to get every answer right. You don't have to fit in with everyone. You don't have to have your whole future planned out by freshman year. Half of life is learning as you go. And the other half is realizing you

016forgot your homework and it has to get done. There will be moments when you succeed, and those moments will feel amazing. Celebrate them. But there will also be moments when you fail or embarrass yourself so badly that you'll think about it at 2:00 a.m. in the morning for the next 5 years. Yes, it's happened to me, too. But guess what? That happens to everyone. And those moments, they don't define you. They teach you. High school give you opportunities to discover things you never knew about yourself. Maybe you'll find your passion. Maybe you'll make lifelong friends. Maybe you'll realize you're really good at something unexpected. Or maybe you'll just learn that waking up early is a personal attack. But, through it all through it all of it, here's what matters. Okay? Be kind. Be kind to

017others and be kind to yourself as well. You're still growing and learning. Be brave. Speak up. Take chances. Try out for a a new sport. Join a club. Yes, there's a chance you might fail, but you might also surprise yourself. Be yourself. The world already has enough copies, and I promise you the people who matter will accept you for who you are. Okay? And finally, don't rush. I know everyone talks about the future like it's a giant race. But, life is not a race. Don't be so busy worrying about what comes next that you forget to enjoy what's happening now. Laugh with your friends. Make memories. Take pictures. Be silly. Because one day these moments will become stories you tell. To the parents and teachers, thank you for helping guide these students to this moment.

018Your love, patience, support, and yes, the repeated reminders to turn in your homework helped them get here. And to our eighth graders, you're not just moving on to high school. You're moving toward new dreams, new lessons, and new possibilities. So, walk into this chapter with courage. Walk in with kindness. And walk in with confidence. And if you get lost on the first day, just act like you know where you're going Sorry. Just act like you know where you're going. That's what the rest of us do. So, once more, congratulations to Barstow Junior High School's eighth grade class of 2026. >> [applause] >> Okay. >> [applause] >> And on that note, I'm going to pass it over to your ASB president, Mr. Rocco Ramirez, for some peer wisdom. Words of wisdom. >> [applause] >> How's everybody

019doing this fine night? >> [cheering] [applause] >> I, YOUR BARSA JUNIOR HIGH School ASB president, have had the pleasure of approving, fundraising, and making your wishes come true with the utmost support of Mr. Mendoza and Ms. Gross. >> [clears throat] [snorts] >> And also every ASB student. This year has had its ups and downs, but today we celebrate all of it. Because it has shaped us and prepared us for our freshman year. To all the overachievers and slackers, to all the pioneers and ones who fell behind, to all the future decision makers and ones who try their hardest, today is your day. Today is our day. But don't let our youthful hope dry out after today. We must and will continue to make every day our day. Once more, a huge shout-out to ASB, Mr.

020Mendoza, Ms. Gross, Dr. McDonald, and every staff member who made this school year work. In the wise words of Sensei Wu, "Never put off until tomorrow what can be done today." Much love, your Barsa Junior High School ASB president, Rocco Ramirez. >> [applause] [cheering] >> All right. We have the next portion of this ceremony. We have some special awards to give out. Now, the thing about these special awards is that the students don't know in advance that they're receiving them. So, it's really important that we listen and that cheering is great, but we make sure that everybody can be heard. And students, if you are recognized with an award, just like we practiced, you'll come up here, somebody will hand it to you, you'll shake a lot of hands because we're all excited to shake

021your hands, and then you'll go back to your seats. Okay? And the first set of awards are going to be presented by our very own Dean of Students, the amazing Ms. Taylor Gross. >> [cheering] [applause] >> All right, our first award is the Grit Award. This student has demonstrated perseverance and resilience and overcome challenges over the course of his time at Barstow Junior High School. This is given to Sosefo Uluhewa. >> [applause] [cheering] [applause] >> All right, the next award is the Grit Award, and this is presented to Mia Norris. >> [cheering] [applause] >> The next is the Soar Superstar. This student has consistently adhered to each of the BJHS SOAR attributes, showing a commitment to safety, ownership, academics, and respect. And this goes to Eduardo Salgado Guerrero. >> [cheering] [applause] [cheering] >> We have

022another SOAR Superstar, and this one goes to Maleah Whitcomb. >> [cheering] [applause] >> All right. We have the Scholar-Athlete Award, and this goes to Miss Aleah Thrash. >> [applause] >> Another Scholar-Athlete Award, both of our Scholar-Athletes have maintained a high academic standing. The second one goes to Andrew Gonzalez. >> [cheering and applause] [applause and cheering] >> All right. The Mighty Hawk Award. This student has consistently demonstrated SOAR attributes and has maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout their her entire time at Barstow Junior High School, and this goes to Mikaela Khan. >> [cheering] [applause] >> Another Mighty Hawk Award. And this is presented to Giovanni Escobar. >> [applause] [cheering] [applause] >> All right. Our last Mighty Hawk Award and this student also maintained a 4.0 GPA, sorry. And this is to Bogart Ocampo. >> [applause]

023>> This is the part where you smile. Thank you. All right, >> [applause] [applause] >> All right, the next set of awards are very traditional as well. Every year we recognize students who have ended the year either with Principal's Honor Roll or Perfect Honor Roll. Principal's Honor Roll means they have attained at least a 3.70 GPA but less than a 4.0. So, from 3.7 to 3.99, those are our Principal's Honor Roll. And then we have Perfect Honor Roll is just what it sounds like, a perfect 4.0. So, the students that are about to come to the stage have worked very, very hard and we have a special dignitary here from the office of Congressman Jay Obernolte. Again, Miss Corrine Mora, she will be handing out these certificates as I read the names. Again, students, we're

024going to just spread out around the stage, but if you hear your name called, we will all cheer for you. You'll come up to the stage. You have to shake my hand, grab your certificate, and we'll spread you out so we can take pictures. Okay? All right. So, the first student, MALIA APPLEWHITE. >> [cheering] [applause] >> AUTUMN DOMINGUEZ. >> [cheering] [applause] >> Isaac Frias Session. >> [cheering] [applause] >> Demetrius Garrett. >> [applause] >> Azaria Goss. >> [cheering] [applause] [cheering] >> Jonathan Herrera. >> [applause] >> Jasper Palubicki. >> [applause and cheering] [applause] >> I meant Palubicki, Jasper Palubicki. You can give him another round of applause for the correct name. >> [applause] >> Camila Reyes. >> [cheering] [applause] >> BREANNA SIMCO >> [cheering] [applause] >> NATIDRA SLENDY >> [screaming] [cheering and applause] >> ADRIAN VASQUEZ Torres

025>> [applause] >> Jaysine ALLAPARTI SOPHIA Altenbomber Cardoza >> [cheering] [applause] >> Melanie Angeles Urbina >> [applause] >> Anaya Astorga >> [cheering] [applause] >> Kingron Boswell >> [cheering] [applause] >> Arject Capalles >> [applause and cheering] >> Aubrey Diaz >> [cheering] [applause] >> Marlie MORENO HERNANDEZ >> [applause] >> IT'S OKAY if we make a second row, but when we get to pictures we're going to spread out, okay? Julian Reyes >> [applause] [cheering] >> Joel Rodriguez >> [applause] >> Aliyah Thrash >> [applause] >> Maleah Wyckoff >> [applause and cheering] >> And I'm going to pause there because that is everyone on the principal's honor roll. So, 3.7 to 3.99, can we give them a ROUND OF APPLAUSE? >> [cheering] [applause] >> JUST STAND RIGHT HERE. THERE YOU GO. IT'S AMAZING. It's a good problem to have when they

026don't fit on the stage. All right, one more round of applause for PRINCIPAL'S HONOR ROLL. >> [cheering] [applause] >> AND NOW FOR PERFECT honor roll, that is a 4.0, all A's, perfect honor roll. We have Dylan Cain. >> [applause] >> Mikaela Khan >> [cheering] [applause] >> Bogart Garcia-Campo >> [applause] >> Nathaniel Halote >> [applause] >> Congratulations. >> [applause] >> MARCUS HERNANDEZ AND Giovanni Tinajero Escobar >> [applause] [cheering] [applause] >> All right, give them one more round of applause as they TAKE THEIR SEATS. >> [applause and cheering] >> AND NOW I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE again Pastor Bushon Carpenter, the executive director of Reaching Our Kids. >> [applause and cheering] >> Can we give it up for the class of 2030 up in the house? >> [applause] >> I know it sounds odd. I know. I already

027I know. I know. Uh listen, Reaching Our Kids is a local scholarship, mentoring, and college preparatory program. We we take on the uh the African proverb that says it takes a village to raise a child. We're just happy to be a part, a small part, of the village of a couple of our students. Should I yell? Okay. We serve students who display academic promise and leadership potential in the face of considerable challenges. Our students are not perfect, but they are resilient. They are absolutely overcomers. Our goal is to build a pipeline to the nation's most prestigious universities and our vision is to produce leaders of the next generation. While most academic scholarships target young students then disburse the the rewards later on in life, maybe in college, the Reaching Our Kids scholarship targets junior high

028kids and gives them the rewards while they're in high school. Uh this scholarship helps cover school-related expenses and activities like laptops and ASB cards and yearbooks and athletic equipment, band equipment, uh formal dances, uh and field trips and the like. This year, Reaching Our Kids received 41 applications from three different schools. Every application was strongly considered and every applicant was offered a panel interview. At the interview, uh candidates were invited into the program whether they receive monetary awards or not. There are several who are in this class who who uh entered into the program, agreed uh to uh a commitment of being in our program for the next four years. I won't name them all, there's so many uh that we can't can't name. But of those 15 or so uh that are in the

029crowd, three of them received a scholarship. Three of them are from Barstow Junior High School, y'all. Can we give it up for them? >> [applause] >> When I name these three, I'm going to ask you uh just to come to the bottom of the steps. Uh I'll call you up one by one once you uh kind of pause for a little bit. Uh make sure that we all give them some love. Uh these young men and women are brilliant, resilient, and they are absolutely overcomers. Please help me celebrate uh the ROK class of 2030 scholarship award winners. First off, Andrew Gonzalez. YEAH. >> [applause] [cheering] >> NEXT UP, I'VE BEEN PRACTICING this I've been practicing this name. Y'all pray for me. AALIYAH LAMBERT. >> [cheering] [applause] >> COME ON. COME ON. COME ON. COME ON.

030That's what I'm talking about. Find y'all. And lastly, Mr. Rocco Gonzalez. Or Ramirez. MY BAD. >> [applause] >> RAMIREZ. >> [cheering] >> I'MMA say it again. I'm I'm I I got to get this right. And lastly, Mr. Rocco Ramirez. >> [applause and cheering] [applause] [cheering] [laughter] [applause and cheering] [applause] [cheering] [screaming] >> My bad. >> [applause] [applause] >> Got it right over here. Together. >> [cheering] [applause] [cheering] >> Find out, George. >> [applause] >> Thank you. >> [applause] >> All right. And now it's the time that I'm sure you've all been waiting for. You can clap. You know what's coming. >> [cheering] [applause] >> So, now now it's time for the presentation of certificates. Now for each of our students, when their names are called, they're going to come to the stage for the names

031to be read. They're going to shake my hand. They're going to shake the hands of several other dignitaries, either those on my right, if they're sitting over here, or those on my left, if they're sitting over here. Um at this time, I just would like to ask that everyone in the audience please remain in the audience for the duration of the ceremony. Please. If there's any sort of an emergency that you absolutely cannot avoid, of course, nobody is going to keep you in here. I just ask that you leave quietly and discreetly out the back. But my hope and prayer is that you will be able to remain for the duration of the ceremony so that we can celebrate every single one of my kids out here who have done an amazing job and earned

032the right to be celebrated. >> [applause] [cheering] [applause] >> And just so that you know, at the very end of the ceremony, which is not right after this, there's still a little bit right after this, at the very end of the ceremony, they'll exit to music celebrated just like they entered. And they'll meet you out there. So, they'll exit the way they entered and you'll exit the way you're entered. And then you can go out there and take all the pictures your heart desires, okay? It's time for the presentation of the certificates now. >> [cheering] >> So, here come my counselors, Mr. Peter Perez and Mrs. Villarreal Fong, you can give them another round of applause. >> [cheering] [applause] >> We have Mr. Krullovich, who by the way is the reigning BUSD Teacher of the

033Year, you can give him an extra ROUND OF APPLAUSE. >> [cheering] [applause] >> HE WILL BE HELPING OUR students as they enter the stage. You have no choice, students, but to shake my hand first. I claim that privilege as your proud principal. >> Testing 1 2 3, testing. Okay. Okay, here we go, man. >> Isabella Aguilar Willis >> [cheering] >> Jordan [applause] Castro >> JAYSING ALAPAT >> [cheering] >> ESTEVAN PERALTA >> [screaming] >> ROSALINA Alcala >> [cheering and applause] >> Anthony Mercado Navarro >> Sophia Cardoza >> Edgar Mangwela >> [laughter] >> Andrea Amonte >> Kayleen Miranda >> [cheering] >> Meline Angeles Urbina >> [cheering] >> Damian Morales >> Malia Applewhite >> [cheering] >> Aaron Morales Arellano >> [cheering] >> Daniel Aguino Lopez >> Marlie Moreno Hernandez >> [cheering] [applause] >> Frank Arriaga >> Kyla Muro

We have a group of students who are listed in your program, but for whatever reason are not here tonight, but they may be watching online. And so, these next names, as they're read, because they matter just as much to me and lots of people as every single person in this room. As we read these names, will you please honor these other

All right. Can I get one more round of applause for all of my eighth graders? I JUST I REALLY WANTED TO CALL them my eighth graders one last time because this is the part of the ceremony

041where we start to hand them over to be ninth graders. This principal's not ready for that, so I just needed to say one more time. So this next portion of the ceremony is where we start the transition to where they will no longer be my BJHS Hawks because they're on their way to be the class of 2030 Aztecs. >> [cheering] [music] >> And so >> [cheering] >> And so we have somebody very special that is going to help with this next portion, but I did also just want to really quickly recognize Miss Elizabeth Givens because she she came to the stage. She's one of our board members, and so can you just give her a round of applause real quick? And now um Miss Savannah Francisco, who is the ASB president for the Barstow Aztecs

042for next school year, will you please come to the mic and welcome your new class. >> [applause] [cheering] >> Hello. Good evening, families, faculty, and students. My name is Savannah Francisco. My name Hello? My name is Savannah Francisco, and I'm excited to welcome the class of 2030 as the Barstow High ASB President. I'd first like to congratulate the class of 2030 for completing middle school. Starting high school is a huge accomplishment, and all of you should be proud of yourselves. Today marks the beginning of a brand new chapter filled with opportunities, memories, growth, and experiences that will shape who you become. It's time to step out of your comfort zone, discover your passions, and meet new people. Sometimes, you have to feel uncomfortable in order to be comfortable. So, don't be afraid to try new

043things, join a sport, or become part of a club. That's where you'll find your lifelong friends, and there's always something here for everybody. Starting high school can be exciting, but also overwhelming and intimidating. You might be worried whether you'll make new friends or how different high school will feel to middle school. But, I want you to know that what you're feeling is completely normal, and I guarantee all your peers feel the same way. So, don't be afraid to lean on one another and support one another. You're stepping out of your comfort zone by starting this new journey. Every upperclassman once felt the same exact way. We know what it's like, which is why we're here to welcome and support you. As your president, I'm here to guide you and voice your concerns on campus. So,

044if you ever see me or another ASB student around, don't be a stranger. High school is so much more than just academics. Yes, your classes and grades are important, but these next 4 years are also about creating memories. Every upperclassman and adult you know will tell you, "Those 4 years will fly by." So, make those memories unforgettable. Because if you thought eighth grade was fast, high school is about to be even faster. So, do as much as you can. Go to football games, dances, participate in spirit week. These events aren't just fun, but an opportunity to come together, cherish your memories, and show our school spirit. I'm excited to see what incredible things the incoming freshman will achieve. So, thank you, and congratulations to the class of 2030. >> [cheering] [applause] [cheering] >> All right.

045We're almost there. I know, but this part is really important. >> [screaming] >> Okay? Students, you may have noticed that there's one teacher who is not here today. And I promised him that I would stand up in front of you and tell you why. Mr. Joseph Shay is our eighth grade history teacher. And I promised him I would tell you that he loves you very, very much, and he is so incredibly proud of you. As many of you know, his son Roman has been fighting brain cancer for quite some time. He passed away, and so he could not be here, and he asked me not to say that for you to be sad. He wanted you to know that he loves you very, very much. He made me promise to say he wouldn't miss this

046for the world other than that. And he said, "It is your turn to go get your education, to make him proud, and the very best way you could honor Roman is to do just that. He loves you, and I promised that I would tell you that." >> [applause] [applause] >> And now, students, will you please stand? Don't leave yet, but please stand. And it is my honor >> [cheering] [cheering] >> It is my honor and my distinct privilege to introduce to you for the first time officially the Barstow Aztecs freshman class OF 2030. >> [cheering] >> STUDENTS, YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO. We're going to exit. >> [cheering] [cheering] >> Mhm.
