Are you ready? >> Don't forget to call out. >> Well, Yes, >> we're kind of down on number four. >> I got it. >> Actually, number three. >> We're good. >> Okay. So, the first >> Yeah, that's always confusing to me. I'd say we're reconvening at open session, but >> Oh, yeah. This actually All right, we're reconvening in open session and in close session the board approved a final settlement agreement for OA and I'm going to call the meeting to order 609 and we stand for the begin to the flag of the United States of America. and to the republic for it stands. One nation under God, indivisibley andice for all. >> Okay. So, we're going to move to the consent agenda. Do we have an approval for the consent agenda? I'll move approval of

the consent agenda. >> I'll second. >> Okay. Any discussion? >> Okay. Roll call vote. I >> I Okay. Um moving on the monthly items and financial reports. the approval of warrants as needed. Do I have a motion? I'll move approvals. >> Oh, okay. I'll second. Okay. Any discussion? >> I have one question that's a little trivial. I noticed all the due process parts in there are in yellow highlight. What was the significance of that? I've been doing that the last several meetings just to show how that cost really has added up over time. Um it's been around almost threequarters of a million since the Duke process started back from this one case in 2019. And I just think it's important to highlight that so we can see the impact that's had on the district and

the resources that's available for our students. >> Yeah. >> And there's a lot on there. So I wanted to kind of keep it, you know, keep it on the radar. I I kind of do it myself, but I just wanted to to see if there was any more to that. >> Nope. No. I'm just pointing that out, you know, to see how that adds up monthto month. >> Okay. Roll call vote. >> I Okay. Um hearing of persons wishing to address the board. Um it looks like we have one of the letter. There was a first and second on that for the um >> the warrants. >> Yes, I moved and Rhonda seconded. >> Thank you. >> It looks like we have two. We have one and then we have a letter. Did you get

the letter? >> I see a letter Ryan Walco letter supporting document. >> Oh, did did that come into the district, Lesa? >> I didn't see that. It's attached. >> Yeah, it's attached on here. I just thought >> this is from last year. >> I think that's from last year. >> Oh, >> it's just one that we failed to delete. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, the public may address the board on any matter pertaining to the school district that is not on the agenda. Members of the public may sign up requesting to address the board by filling out a request form and turning it into the board president prior to the start of the meeting unless otherwise determined by the board. Each person is limited to 3 minutes and 20 minutes per topic if

people if multiple people speak. You may also email lurbasmic sd.org prior to 12 p.m. on the date of the meeting if you would like to address the board. Your email will be read by a staff member at the meeting up to three minutes in length. There will be no board discussion and no action will be taken unless listed on a subsequent agenda. The public may also submit a request to address the board on each of the remaining items on the agenda as those items are taken up by specifying the agenda item on the public comment request form unless otherwise determined by the board. Each person is limited to three minutes per item. And so tonight we have an Gwyn um from OES and she would like to talk about something uh in regards to the

BLTA. >> Um I should >> Sorry. Point of order really quickly. Is it on an agenda item? >> Yes. >> Should we wait till the agenda item comes up? Sorry. >> Okay. >> Oh, it is. >> Yeah, it's on. So it'll come up. >> It's in regards to the TA. Yeah. So we can have you come up during that item. >> Sorry about that. I apologize. >> It's okay. >> New getting my feet wet on this here. Um okay. So action items A resolution number 2603 district CRMA representative. >> I'll move approval of resolution 2603 district CRMA representative. You get a second. >> I'll second that. >> Is it just annually required um for the district to have Michelle and I uh representing the district for any of the meetings with our that's our um

California risk management is our property liability and workers comp insurance. So this is just we bring this forward every year so that we're able to represent the district at meetings. Okay. Any questions about that? No. Roll call vote. I >> I. Right. Motion carries. We're going to move on to the resolution number 2604, local assignment notification. Do I have a motion? >> I move approval. >> I'll second. >> Uh any discussion on this? >> No. >> Straightforward. >> This is the annual. We do this at the beginning of every school year for our teachers who are teaching outside of their credential area, but it's authorized um based on their um units and courses. And so we just have to say that the board is approving for them to be um teaching outside of their subject

area with and there's provisions, right? Like they have to hit certain criteria and then they hit that criteria and then we approve that so that they can be in those positions. Does that create any problems with our compliance business? >> It would create a problem if we didn't do this. So if we didn't have this on file, we would get an error and then well we get an error on those teachers every year and then we show them this and that clears the error because it because the local governing board is allowed authorized to have this on file and agree to allow this to happen. And so then we provide that and then the air clears >> for for calads and cal >> for calads and calas. Yeah. >> Yeah. Okay, roll call vote, please.

I >> I >> Okay, now we are moving on to C. Approve the tenative agreement between the district and Lake Teachers Association. So, do we do the motion first or the person speaking first? >> I think we had to have an motion to discuss it. >> Yeah, I think we need to do >> I think we should have a motion and second for discussion. >> I'll motion to approve. Okay, I'll second. >> Let's go with that. >> And then right. >> What do you think? There's I I there's nothing for me to say. There was a motion and there's a second. >> Okay. Do we have any discussion? >> That is that's the >> We do have public comment. >> Now forward comments. Thank you. >> Button. >> Just push the button. if it's got

a great >> There you go. On behalf of our Basslake School District teachers, we wish to publicly express our gratitude to Michelle, to Tara, and to Lydia for your willingness to negotiate with our team and for agreeing to compromise on a salary increase. Thank you. >> Thank you. [Applause] Right. Any other discussion on that? >> Roll call vote. >> I motion carries. Um all right. On to D. approve the updated certificated salary schedules for 2025 2026 school year. Have >> a motion. >> I'll move approval of the updated certificated salary schedule for the 2526 school year. >> I'll second loud and clear. That's just we're just taking turns. >> Any discussion on that? I am also very happy to see this on here and that it's for this year moving forward. 25 26 27 is

that right? >> No, we're still >> Oh, this is just 26. >> Yeah, for this school year. Got it. >> Just checking. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Uh roll call vote. >> I again >> I motion carries. >> All right. Item E, approval of the consolidated application part one and part two. >> I'll move approval. >> I'll second. Thank you. >> How is this so much fun, you guys? >> Discussion. >> This is something we do annually. We complete it two parts. There's usually a part in the spring. So, if you notice some of the forms on there, I believe they have February and then the second window to complete is in June. It's just for all of our federal funding which is mainly title one, title two, um title three and title four. And part

of the process um on doing these forms is saying your board approved it. So you have to um you have to do the forms, you have to submit them to CDE uh for for the federal funding and then also um the board approves and then the county is aware of that as well. So, uh, we definitely want, uh, to be in compliance because that funding helps support some of our programs that we really need for different student subgroups. So, we're just staying in clients by having it on here and that way we can use those funds this year. Okay. I on um page five of that document when it talks about English learner student program budget it said estimated English learner student count 85. Do we really have 85 students or is that >> that's

what came from CalPats when I when I entered the data. >> Okay. Yeah. That's just I guess that's just more than I >> Well, it's any student where the parent could have put the home language um being a language other than English and then when they're assessed at the school, it could they might not even um you know continue with English language services throughout their time here. That's that means that they they put that on the survey. They're in on the radar to be assessed and then every year you know it's revisited >> then it it fluctuates, right? So the >> 77 I think. >> Yeah. I just did calculations on that and we're currently sitting at 58. >> Oh, okay. Yeah. Okay. So >> I I also have a question if you're Were you

done, >> Madam President? >> Yes. Were you done? >> Okay. Why do we have 23 24? um part of these forms every year. That's my most favorite part is that you get to do several years at once and try to remember what you did in the past. And you um most the federal forms require a 12 month, 24 month, 36, 48month reporting window because you can't roll them over after a certain amount of time. So, it's kind of redundant because at the end of the year, I say yes, we spent them. Then 24 months I I feel like they're trying to trick me. Like I still say, yes, I spent the same amount in the same categories. Um, but it's just some of them you'll see on there will be different years um because that's

just how they because sometimes people will go back and change things after the fiscal year is closed and move things around. So, they just want to make sure it represents the most accurate picture at the time it's reported, >> but usually there's about two or three years at once on the different forms. >> Okay. Roll call vote. >> I I >> All right. Uh item F, approve revisions recommended by the MCSOS to the LCAP. >> I'll move approval. >> I'll second. >> Okay. Um any discussion on this? So this is these are the revisions and I the attachment is there that shows all of the things that MAS said fix these Michelle and so I did and so those revisions are now reflective of the um LCAP that you see here attached. Um so we

are approving those recommendations and clarifications and then it'll go back to the county. They'll look at it one more time. Um, they'll probably ask for a few more little things that are usually more like um, grammatical or maybe that, you know, you forgot a period. Those those not meat and potatoes type things. This was more the meat and potatoes that needed to be fixed. And then it'll get sent to the state. Um, I believe the deadline is September 5th. Any other discussion on that? >> I know that's how it works. Thank you, Michelle. You're really glad that >> Jimmy was able to come up and help you. >> So, is this where we would talk about bringing another person on a fee basis to to help or justice from the county? >> So, I mean,

we we can talk about that as just in general. We're talking about the LCAP, but we wouldn't be approving that. The motion was to approve the LCAP, right? But there, but just, you know, to be transparent and have the conversation, we've had it before. Um, and even the county has recommended to me that we look into um some help with an LCAP writer. Um, it's a very arduous task. It takes a lot of time and energy. And in fact, the person who was helping me with these said like they know no other superintendent that writes LCAP. And so, um, we will be looking into seeing if we can get some help with that for an LCAP writer. Of course, we'll make sure it fits within the budget. Um, but I think that that um is

something that we've had discussion about over the last couple years that might be necessary. So, it is. >> Yeah. roll. >> I All right. Uh on to information items. The enrollment report. I was just looking sorry I was just looking at numbers now that it hasn't changed since I made this report. Um but when we had looked at the beginning of August uh we had around 755 and uh when I ran the report it was up to 773 and that's what I see in Aries today. So it did go up a little bit and we still hear from the sites daily that one or two kids are coming in you know still enrolling. Um, so we ended the year at 805. So we're down a little bit, but um, at least a little bit stronger

than what I had projected uh, when I budget on the question. >> Very good. And we are just I think this is an appropriate place to just kind of put that out there. We've had discussions about this, but we are um, doing a lot of work around attendance and chronic absenteeism this year. So hopefully our uh ADA is closer to that uh 773 than not. >> So that's that's work we're paying attention to this year. >> Yeah. Excellent. >> All right. Uh B 9B interd district transfer reports. So um there's always a bunch right at the beginning of the year. Um, so 43 transferred in to the district, 28 from Newity Unified, seven from Mariposa County, three from Chawanaki, and five from Raymond Nolles, and six students transferred out. >> Yeah, that's normal behavior for

the beginning of the school year. >> Yeah. >> All right. accomplishments and other reasons to celebrate him throughout the district. Um, who is up tonight? >> So, um, typically it's one principal, right? Um, that comes up and on a rotating basis. So, that'll start in September. Um, but the principles agreed to not do the big formal presentation with all the pictures and things, but just say a few words about the beginning of the school year. Um, unfortunately, principal of Oak Elementary, Miss Mrs. Williams, is not feeling well. So, she gave something for me to read. So, I'll go ahead and do that and then we can move on to the other principles. Okay. From Principal Williams, the 25 26 school year at OES is off to a fantastic start. We have three new teachers at

OES. Elizabeth Munoz teaches kindergarten, Leslie Zarat teaches third grade, and Jennifer Springer teaches fourth grade. They bring wonderful can do attitudes and infectious positive enthusiasm to the campus. We welcomed our largest group of TK and kinder students at our TKinder kickoff on Monday, August 11th. We have 37 TK students and 50 kindergarten kinder kiddos this year. Students and teachers love seeing Mr. Mack on campus and his support with teachers and students has been invaluable. That's Mr. McDonald. >> Uh music with Mrs. Dent and Mr. Swagger >> Swigert started this week. We feel incredibly lucky to have two amazing music teachers sharing their wealth of musical knowledge with our kiddos. And finally, OES hosts our annual back to school night tomorrow night from 5:30 to 7:00. PTC will have pizza, salad, cookies, and drinks for sale

in the NPR. We'd love to have you stop by and see what amazing things are happening in our classrooms. We hope you feel better, Mrs. Williams. >> Okay, Mr. McG. >> All right. Is that okay? Here we go. Um yeah, I didn't prepare anything, but um things have started off very well. We have a couple well kind of new teachers at our place, but having the band teacher now, David Swagger, who's nice. He'll be starting with us uh electives actually teaching band for us uh on Monday when we start electives. We'll be signing up for electives starting tomorrow with the students. And then uh Tamar Dent will also be starting with theater on Monday also when they're done. So that's good. Uh we had our back to school night last night and we had a

great turnout. Um Mr. Johnson was there and got to check out that. Um so that's always nice. It's always a bunch of sixth grade parents and family and a bunch of eighth grade parents and family and seventh grades. You know, there were a few of those there, too. But um but that's how it goes. Um actually on my way here tonight coming from work, uh a mom stopped me and said, "Wait a minute. Isn't back to school night tonight?" >> Oh no. Oh gosh, you know, you missed it by a day, but she was bummed. But um we have a lot of good things going on. We just started tryyous for girls volleyball and boys flag football and our first game is a week from Friday. I believe we have a home game then. Uh

we have a a dance coming up at Veneretses uh this Friday. Um we'll be having ASB elections coming up shortly. So we have a lot of things going on. The mood on campus is the best mood on campus that I've seen across the board since I've been principal since we came back from co >> and and I only reference co and and that is 5 years ago. Um, but there not that there aren't little things going on cuz there are. But one thing that's really nice is it just seems like everybody took a breath and including really including the students and it's and it's very nice to see. It isn't, you know, we're not shooting quite for perfection yet, but um it's really it's really nice to see that happening and kind of feel that,

you know, um the three of us up in the office the first couple days were like, "All right, there's nothing going on here. My things are good." I was able to get out and be in classrooms three, four times each during the day just to pop by and see and and um and I've had to talk to some students and had to just discipline some students. But um it feels different right now and I hope that it continues. We're working on it really hard. There's there aren't any miracles, but um I know that a lot of the work's been done here and and uh so we're getting sixth graders who are we're reaping those benefits of what we're doing also. So it's really nice to see. >> Thank you. [Applause] I didn't prepare anything either,

but um Guima is amazing. We've had really fun times these last few days. Um first day of school, the vibe was amazing. PTC set up this beautiful balloon arch. Kids were excited to be back. There were smiles. It was great to see. Um, we also have a lot of new things happening. We have a new leadership ASV class that the kids have joined and they really seem to be having fun with that. We have our wildfire audition starting tomorrow and Friday. We had 11 kids sign up to do the blind auditions to be our wildfire mascot. Um, so that's happening in two different time frames because so many signed up to do it. Um, we're also starting volleyball and um, flag football. So practice starts next Tuesday. Our first game on Friday against Northport. Um

but yeah, we have our child development kids, big kids still in and so they've been in classrooms. Little have started this week. So they're in there helping those littles. It's really cool to see that connection being made in that community. Um let's see what else. Yeah, we have our first dance on Friday um down in so our sixth graders are very excited about their first dance. Um, we have two new teachers at Wasuma. We are blessed to have our wonderful RSP teacher, Mrs. Fellaini Comtock. Um, she hit the ground running and she's been in those classrooms making things happen for those kiddos, making sure their things are needs are getting met. Um, and then we also have David Swagger, our band teacher. So, our four five started band this week. Um, that was really fun

for them. um in addition to our sixth through eight and then our K through three are also enjoying their music time with Mrs. Demp that started this week. So welcome. Good things are happening at Wasuma. Our back to school night happens next Thursday. So please join us. 5:00 PTA is selling our Wasuma gear and then 5:30 our first one starts in first grade and we go all the way through till 7:30. >> Thank you. Well, thank you so much and I think I can speak on behalf of the board and say welcome. We haven't your first oneelcome. So, >> we're excited to have you. >> Okay. Um, number 11, superintendence report. >> Okay. A couple things. Um, again, welcome back again. We had a great kickoff. Was that just last week? >> Last Tuesday. Okay.

Um, it was it was really cool. I got a lot of comments about, "Wow, there's a lot of people in here." And I said, "Yeah, we're a pretty big employer in the mountains, right?" So, that that was neat. Um, and that was fun to see everybody and welcome everybody back. Um, I wanted to say thank you to everyone who has been involved with preparing for our upcoming Williams monitoring visits. I'm not quite sure Bass Lake has ever had one of those, and if that happened, it was quite some time ago. they're saying nope. So, um it's been work, right? And so, there's a lot of people that have been putting a lot of effort to make sure that everybody's prepared for that and doesn't feel a lot of nervousness around that. So everywhere from maintenance

to principles to teachers to support staff um have all been working really hard to make sure that um we're checking the boxes and um we have those vis one visit is next week and then for one site and then the other two sites are the following week. So thank you for everybody that's been working hard on that. Um, and then I just wanted to remind everybody, I mentioned these in my little welcome back speech, just sort of our our focus areas for the year. My focus areas that I'd like the district to focus on are relationships, vulnerability, and positivity. Just kind of keep those in mind as we're pushing through the school year. And then um I wanted to remind the board that Larissa helped me set up or start populating the district events Google

calendar. I know that that's been something the board has um requested that would be helpful to make sure that um they had somewhere they could look to that had events around the district that they might want to attend. So, um, I've let principles know and office managers know to as things come up to let Larissa know with as much notice as possible so that that can be populated for you guys so you guys can kind of be strategic about I'm going to go here and you're going to go there. So, we feel like we have um board presence at our events districtwide. So, thank you and thank you to Larissa and Jeie coming alongside um helping on boarding. Um, it's been great and um, I'm looking forward to a really positive and exciting school year.

So, thank you everyone. >> All right, moving on. Board member comments. >> Can I turn it on now? Apparently, mine's the one that You're the troublemaker. >> I'm the troublemaker with all the >> try mine. staring down. >> How about this one? Does this one work? Yeah. >> Hi. So much better. Um, welcome back everybody. Um, I want just want to say thank you to all of our staff. I know that there's so much work that goes into getting a school ready for um, welcoming the students back. And I know a lot of people spend extra time and go the extra mile. And even though, you know, I didn't see it specifically, it shows in so many ways. And I think, you know, Mr. Mcgru and Miss Tommpkins talked about the energy and I can

feel it like all the way down to the end of the road. It's it's emitting up here in our mountain area and so all the positivity and all the energy that everyone is bringing to education this year. It's really showing. Um, I wanted to let you guys know that uh our board um we spent some time this summer working on um well we did our self-evaluation and that is one thing that all good boards do so I feel like you know we can pat ourselves on the back. Just kidding. And um we also um have found a way to like continue our training without spending a lot of district money. we're going to do um a training here locally rather than spend a lot of money and go down to um a conference. But we

also did an assessment of the areas that we have already had training on and we know what our strengths are and where we need to improve. And so we have um a focus for our training. And so it just feels like it's all kind of coming together and and we're committed to um doing the best uh the business of the district to the best of our ability. And so I just wanted everyone to know that we are also working hard and um we are doing everything that we can to help this district um be all that it can be. Thank you. >> This is a good one. Okay. Good. Um, also just want to say welcome to everybody. Um, you know what Julie said. Um, also thank you Ann for thanking us. Um, that's very

kind. Um, you know, our heart is in it. We know the people are what make our district and our kids successful. And you know, if it were up to us and we could do it, we would give raises all the time and we would give you way more. We give you, you know, we want to give you the world. Um, and Terra works really hard and apparently doesn't sleep very good either with looking at all of this and so, you know, it is a team effort. Everybody tries their best. So, um, thank you for acknowledging that and thank you, Taran, because I know it is definitely been, you know, a juggling act and we've had lots of discussions and like Julie said, we're trying to also um, you know, decrease what we have done in

the past as far as a board to um, help offset some of that cost, you know, so we can contribute to lowering the burden on the f financial aspects of the district. So, anyway, thank you for your comment. That was nice and welcome back. and here's a good school years. Thank you. >> Well, that's hard to follow all that. But anyway, I I do want to personally welcome Miss Hopkins to the to the team. Heard a lot about you from people I know that you know. Anyway, uh sounds like we're off to a good start. I I like the My biggest thing when I look at any group is is where's the morale at? you know what's what's going on and if it's not there then then the leader's in trouble basically and I really

like what I'm hearing from you Tim that's really good news sounds like things are off to a great start and let's keep that attitude of gratitude going >> just echo the sentiments when I go last there's a little bit of a hu can't say it all the way you guys all said it but same Welcome back everyone. Um always appreciative of all the hard work. We're excited for a new school year. Excited to um have achievement raised, have um all of our um just the positivity like um Michelle was talking about just having positive attitudes, hoping that our students are excited to come to school, ready to learn, getting our attendance up. So all of the things that we've been, you know, talking about over the last few years, I feel like things are starting

to come together and it's and we're on a on a positive trajectory. So I'm excited for all that and um so thank you. That's all I have to say. >> Um, all right. So, moving on. Uh, future agenda items are discussing anything tonight. >> Okay. I wasn't sure if we wanted to um I wasn't sure if we wanted to put on next month's agenda which would be September. Um if we wanted to decide then on when we were going to do our training. So we because we have two dates that we have tenatively scheduled >> in October in October. So >> tenative October 11th and October 25th. So, I was hoping that we could add that to the agenda for next month so that we can make that decision and make plans for that date.

>> Yes, great ideas. >> So, we've been we've been calling it a board retreat because some of our neighbors call it that and then some of us were like that feels like we're going on vacation. So, um it'll be like another work workshop that we're going to do locally. So, I'll I'll find the right wording for that and put that on here that it'll say to schedule our next board workshop. >> Yeah, cuz we have we had two dates. >> So, we just need to decide which one we're going to have. >> Correct. Figure out what we're going to do. >> Correct. I um what we discussed in our last board workshop about having um a guest be speaker come up because I think those two dates are Saturdays if my memory serves me correct.

Um, I have made contact with that person and so far it looks promising that we will be able to have that person come up and um, share their wisdom and their success with us. Um, so that's good. And then um, I have a couple books in mind because I think we talked about the potential of a book stud. >> Yes. >> So just so you know, I've been >> trying to start organizing that, moving forward with that. So we'll make sure that that's on there. So since we have two dates, are you going to see if the the presenter could come on one of those? >> I've already given those two dates and those two dates are were open. So I'm going to reach out to them tomorrow and just say, can you please keep

those penciled in? >> Um and then we'll like tatively >> will we do both dates then or we'll pick one, right? >> We'll pick one. But I wanted that person to have it on their calendar so that they didn't book. Got it. >> And they were okay with that. >> Perfect. So >> yeah. >> All right. Very good. Um the next meeting date is Oh, September 10th, right? Yeah. September 10th. And I am going to adjourn this meeting at 6:46.
