001e e e Open Session right now 6 6:14 [Music] p.m. hear me I all right we're announcing the close session action the first item uh the board took action to release certificated probationary employees listed on the resolution I don't think now there it is all righty okay the board took action on close session items the first item uh was the board took action to release the certificated probationary employees listed on the resolution the section second action item was the board approved the final settlement agreement okay and we going to now do the salute allise I pledge Al to the flag United States of America and to the for it stands one nation God indivisible liy and justice [Music] okay item five is the consent agenda do we have a motion to approve this I move

002approval is there a second I ask for any discussion on these agenda items I just had one item B talks about removing one of our Portables from one spot to another and I just wondered how far it's going to be moved I one of the Portable Buildings no it's not we're not moving it it's just one of the um 10 construction projects that we had that were still open from 1991 um that we were trying to close out and we were down to the last two so this is a proposal for the architect uh because AR original architect has passed away and we've gone through six different Architects that turned it down this one approved that they're going to look at the old plans which we were able to locate um to figure out if

003we can get that project closed out so nothing's been decided in terms of any kind of moving it um they're just looking at um if they can list it as moved or relocated so that they could finalize it because the issue was it was never noted on the plans but the two portables were put together so that's their ha Mary to try to um get it approved after all this amount of time to say that it was relocated and then um if the state architect approves that then that project can be closed out okay and we relocate yeah they want to say that it was relocated already so okay any other discussion on these items okay roll call vot then I I I I unanimous okay item number six hearing a person's wishing to address

004the board have any slips that anybody would like to speak okay so we're going to move to item seven action item a is to approve the annual update of the transportation services plan do I have a motion to approve this I make a motion we approve the annual update of the transportation service for 25 second discussion so this plan is required to be approved annually by April 1st uh usually we have it on the February agenda but we were um very busy so we we made sure to get it on this agenda in order to meet the deadline and it's just um going over our transportation plan for the next school year because we received the home to school transportation reimbursement which um you calculate by deducting out some other funding and transportation costs um

005so it's required for the board to approve it it just shows the total cost of our transportation program um what we do in the transportation program there's some narrative in there and then um it's really not change much year to year other than some of the uh amounts like the number of students and things and the costs which go up a little bit year to year any questions on that no okay so dooll call vote i i i i the next Item B is resolution number 258 adopting a conflict of interest code do I have a motion to discuss this I make a motion we approve resolution 258 adopting of conflict interest code I'll second is there any discussion concerning this okay so roll call vote i i i i the next item is C

006resolution 25-9 for electric school buses we have a motion to approve I have approval second any have any discussion onc vles um yes I wanted some clarification it looked like we're not authorizing getting anything We're authorizing terara to look into getting something is that I understand yeah it's for the grant yeah so to even look at the um Grant the program said you had to have a resolution approved saying that you were going to go that route that's the first step to even look into it and it would be for the future yeah we don't have any plans for it right now but just to get the process going and doing the research didn't we have new buses on our warrant St yes but those are some used buses one's a handicap bus um that

007we bought because our other buses were out of compliance with the admission some older buses oh okay so it's not related to this yeah we didn't get any electric okay Robert do you have anything you want to add to that yeah just for clarification for we have three buses um that could be turned in to um to use for Grants and so they're doing the grants for all three that doesn't require us to buy three buses if we're approved but we do need to have one electric bus by 2027 to meet the requirements so we're hoping that it will come through for at least one so that we can meet that and with electric buses generally you can get the entire thing paid for and you 50,000 for to char it's like all inclusive it's

008time to replace do we know the range how many miles they changing they're getting close to 100 um and the high school got theirs and found a few things out that the year ratio is important for up here in the mountains so we would be looking into that that type of thing to make sure that they're going to work for us we have at least two routes that we can put in like on and they should do just thank you Mr Diaz any other questions or comments okay we call both i i i i h Miss next item is D 7D the resolution 25-10 delegating authori to enter into contract subject for ratification I make a motion we approve resolution number 2510 I'll second this is an annual one that we usually do in the

009fall um and we um had missed this one so we wanted to make sure uh we would go and have that covered so um because that we approve uh you approve the Authority for us to do purchases and the same thing with contracts so we're just Shoring all that up I did have a question about it and I can't find my sticky note on here I mean I see it but I click on it it doesn't do anything um but the question was it was just a like a conflict in the date on the date like um it's supposed to be through the end of um this school year and then um we would want to bring it on the agenda in August next year so we would have it at the very beginning so

010you probably saw August and then July and maybe or June I'm thinking we missed yeah I saw one that said to June and then something else said August and yeah I don't know where my sticky note went yeah so it's this this approval is for July 1st of 2024 through June 30th of 2025 and then um then we will bring it to the agenda in August of 2025 so we can cover next school year there isn't usually a lot going on in between that time okay okay thank you any other questions or comments okay roll call vote i i i i next item 7 e consideration and Adoption of board policy and administrative regulations board bylaws and Exhibits and revisions I'll make a motion we adopt board policy administrative regulations board bylaws and second I'll

011second we're doing all them together I think so right I I have no problem you after we do this you want to discuss one okay yes I I will second okay anyone have any it like to discuss yes um cour policy 3100 regarding the budget get on the policy of the regulation board policy policy okay not the a the BP okay okay anyway if you read down through there it gives us three different options and they're I think they're in red oh yeah and uh are we picking one of those or we just leaving it open yeah we pick one give me a second I think yeah the other one should have been Tak or we should have taken those off um that was the same with the before I think it was before an

012after school programs there was a couple different options again my sticky notes Stephan I don't know if you can help me but I can't see them you know I see that I have it but I don't know how to find it I believe it's option one for the budget advisory committee yep so option one is the superintendent or design May appoint a budget advisory committee composed of Staff board representatives and or members of the community yeah we okay with that okay so they're highlighted I just wondered if that was something we decided tonight or picking one or typically what happens Steve is that option will have already been chosen and like whichever one applies to most applies to us and the other ones are taken off and just the option that is chosen is on

013there so that's why it's confusing because it's not typically like that typically those are that's already been done and those are taken off so so which one has already been done option one is the one that should be on there okay and on that same one do do we need a separate budget committee or are we okay the way we're doing it thank you well it says may appoint are you talking about option one still no staying on board policy 3100 regarding the budget it um talks about making a you know a board a budget committee from some of us or people from the community or whoever and and working on this right so it's say we may do that we may do that if if we choose to but it's not like that we

014have to right yeah is it are we we happy with what we're doing now oh sorry I didn't hear that part question yes I feel I feel like what we're doing now works I think we're very transparent about what's going on with the budget with tera's presentations um portions of the budget go in front of school Council um to be looked on and discussed okay as well so yes okay I'm going to bring up what Rhonda was mentioning with the before and after school programs that's policy 5148 point2 that there are two options like do we charge our students are not Char the other one can you tell me which one it is again please yeah I'm sorry sorry it's uh five policy 5148 point2 before and after school programs we do not charge fees

015okay so we're option one correct option one right all right a lot of this and U moving down to like the uh policies regarding the threey olds and two year olds we don't even deal with that do we I don't we have we have young children yes I mean we have well we might have a three-year-old next year if they're if they don't turn four till September for TK that's pretty young we also have to take responsibility for the children who uh might turn three for special education special ed yes Okay Age 3 to 22 I mean not 22 for us but I'm just saying public education right so high school districts through age 22 how do they deal with the PO training issue as a teacher I mean are there well we have we

016have things in our contracts but talk about that and we have um certain individuals that if we have that situation they're hired for that purpose we also have our health aids and our nurses so we have things in place to take care of that appropriately and for our contracts okay all right I just had a question on policy 1250 concerning visitors and Outsiders so it says here any person who's not a student or staff member shall register immediately a visitor on entering any school building or grounds when school is the session is there something in writing that you know in particular parents or anyone knows to enter the office as a visitor there's usually a sign that says visitors must check in right outside the door yeah we have special remind them through messages that

017they need to check in the office first get their visitor badge so that they don't get I think they get like a little sticker right people out and about that don't have a sticker the staff's trained to be like hey go check in yeah yeah and then we have the Bata system where they swipe their license I just um noticed and I assuming their parents driving up and they just walk onto the grounds that happens sometimes yeah so that's why you know if they if somebody doesn't look familiar and to staff and they don't have a sticker then they're directed to go check in okay my guess is if they're dropping off their child and not staying they probably don't have to check correct like if they're taking their kid to the classroom they don't

018necessarily have to check in but if they plan on staying on campus then you have to check in right because we have like the TK and we have parents that are just learning to get here on they will come late and we tell them that if they like if they are here afterwards they have to sign in if they want to take their child to the classroom they don't want to do that then we call the TK or Kinder classrooms and have S a buddy to come get okay cool thank you I think there was one more I had a question find it okay policy 3320 uh claims and actions against the district so there's a lot of issues here um you know death injury to a person personal property you know sexual assault and

019such so I know csba writes these proposed policies right I mean they're under the authority of attorneys is this something that we should have our attorneys review before we approve this I don't think so I mean it's been vetted that's going to cost us money but if if we're concerned about something or a part of it we could um but they're scrubbed pretty well based on current legislation based on Law and edod andent yeah current legislation and um before they put them out so pretty straight yeah all right okay I don't have other questions any other questions you guys have yes I'm do okay um so we'll go ahead and approve or just votc me we oh I Yay are yeah yeah next item eight is monthly item and financial reports a is monthly approval

020of warrants is there motion to approve the warrants I will move approval to uh approve the warrants and I want to thank you for aligning the report page did you I I just noticed that was it this first time this month oh yeah I think so it was great so I'm sorry now it's discussions normally we have the page difference on the top and it wasn't that way this time because she put the on a separate page so it now align so we won't have that confusion so it was confusing to me because people would say page seven and they meant page eight because they were counting the cover yeah yeah so thank you for doing that for us yeah no problem yeah I did have a question on page 10 the Hannah interpreting Services

021what what is that so this is when um we have um a family uh where there could be an IEP or there could a behavior issue and there's translation needed and we don't have staff that available or um in one case it says Burmese we don't have anyone to speaks burmes so we had found out some of this was going to be coming in the pipeline and um we researched and found uh this company and they offer the services all different ways you can send documents to be translated or um they have a hotline you can call in so if there was like an emergency situation where they needed to translate to the parent so we've had a few scenarios so far where we've already used it it is a little bit costly with the

022documents it's per word um the calls in or per minute it's a little more reasonable but in some cases in the past if it was Spanish that was easy that we um could do but um there's the quantity has gotten to be more and more where um you know our staff's already so uh overwhelmed so we have this service if we need it and then it's also great for if we get a a rare language like that in fact when I called different firms they were like what's ber so that's how I knew when I found this firm that they were going to be a good fit because they said oh yeah we have burmes translator and I'm like great I we are looking into other companies that might be less expensive yes um but

023these These are typically more expensive because they're legal documents right when you're talking about anap or you know the mostly IEPs right those are legal documents so the people who are translating them have to have like a certificate to translate legal documents yeah and it's not like an IP that is a legal document we could put in a Google translate or something we're required to have it officially translated in this way but we've been working with Mr Mac and looking at apps or different options for the next school year this was just to kind of help us with the current issues we were having to get through the end of this school year cool thank you for explaining that that's all I had on the questions uh I have two comments on page eight one

024is I think it's great that the colus grants came through and obviously they purchased materials with that money so that's always nice of our community to help out and also wanted to tell everybody that I'm starting a floor scrubbing manufacturing business right as 12 Grand that's a some heavy sugar spreading our floors so I don't hopefully that thing lasts forever well and in that case um we were able uh thanks to Robert smart thinking put it under routine restricted restricted maintenance which is um that fund that we use to keep up facilities it's usually for cost for keeping up the building and he was like well actually the flo scrubber is helping to keep up that building so because there was a budget yeah so now we have the scrubber we bought the device it

025was the old the other one was how old or what happened that we had to get a new one the the other one um has the controls that it run went out and so um we we got the new one finally figured out what was wrong with the other one and I've bought parts for the other as back that's yeah restricted maintenance has a budget each year for um you know the different upkeep of the facilities and um there's a little bit of budget left there so that worked out that we could put that there because the budget's pretty tight everywhere else any other questions yeah so on page one we had a lot of entries on a about a acsa conference and I just wondered if we could get some sort of report on

026that what what you did there or something uh yes that was U Miss Townsen and Miss Ortega and Miss Tomkins they attended every child counts conference and the way that it's broken out is unfortunately in our County software every um thing is broken out individually because it was on the American Express card so some of the charges there in the beginning I believe were their luggage fees because they flew down there um those are the some of the smaller fees and then there's other ones that's for transp parking meals um the hotel and then the actual registration but yeah because it was they were using the ax it kind of breaks out each charge individually usually you don't see that kind of detail was that know in it was in San Diego and it was

027for like um multi-tier system of supports and then also some special education topics um lots of the sessions were um conducted by attorneys which was really helpful for us because we could talk to them about like specific situations that we're dealing with and um it was actually it was a great conference we learned a lot and we also had a lot of validation for some of the things that we've been working on in the district that you know have been new and a little bit of um growing pains with it it's been a little messy and so we got some good resources and some good ideas as well as we're validated with some of the things that that we're moving forward with so it was it was a really good um worthwhile conference to be

028three days Days yeah we looked at um weighing options of um the fuel and renting a vehicle versus the flight um because some conferences um if we have a big group going they can drive um but in this case actually the airfare was going to be cheaper um from Fresno to San Diego than getting a rental car and paying Fu so usually comp M's really good at that yeah she's she's like a super saber and I see somebody took a yellow highlighter and put highlighted the due process uh amounts do you want to speak a little bit well I just had seen a lot more on this warrant report and I just kind of wanted it out there you know that um these expenses are frequent and they're monthly and you know over time it's

029really um adding up and of course we want to provide the remedies and the services to the students that are required by law but um you know just kind of keeping an eye on that and that isn't something we're given funding for there's anywhere extra in the budget um so and it's more and more over time um so hopefully you know in the future we have all these things in place and families and the district are able to work together on Solutions we don't get to that point and some of the fees for du process when it relate like when it's related to a special education situation um the county does allow us to fill out what's called the special needs pool reimbursement form and we can put down expenses like the fam's attorney we

030have to pront those C or you know take care of those costs we could put that down sometimes students um request or parents of students or attorneys for students request um outside evaluations and so we can also um put that on the re the request and often we get a portion of that payback I don't think we've ever gotten that fully yes reimbursed but um we will get uh some of that reimburse back to us um so long as we feel that out and in fact that's done and being submitted tomorrow yeah so like last year for example we had the $115,000 legal bill for the due process and we submitted that to the special needs pool we got around 30,000 back so not the whole amount but it depends on how many districts submit

031claims um and then what's in the pool so they some year you might get 20% of what you spent and some year it could be 50 or 70 so it really just depends how many people are turning stuff in um but we are going to be turning in these current ones U for the legal fees and some of the evaluations so hopefully um we'll have a good chance of getting back a portion of that yeah it's expensive see the one on the last page it says new due process students lawyers fees total $2,135 in legal fees just for the mediation so that's unfortunate so much time and energy is being spent by our administrator staff dealing with the issues it's really a shame any other questions we approve roll call vote please I I I

032I okay next item 8 B report on investments October through December 2024 it's information that there I attached um the supporting documents but the summary really States it there in that last sentence so the Madera County Treasury funds um from this was for October through December uh the fiscal year return rate of return was 3.47 currently and it was 3.92 in September so it's just a slight decrease it fluctuates throughout the year and then our total investment so this is any of our funds that are held in the cter treasury we earn interest back on them um it's a a small amount but it's nice to get a a little bit of interest for the mon money that sits in the treasury and then our opep liability is our liability for our retiree Health and

033Welfare so that went down um that's in the investment Market um so that has gone down slightly since September but as you've seen in previous years it's uh it fluctuates and also um we're if you remember from the Actuarial report we actually have a asset not a liability in terms of our actual cost with what's invested information only uh item C 8 C is 2425 second interim interim report I have a motion to approve this I move to approve I'll second it want to explain any of that yes I have a presentation that I'm going to go over um get it ready but before I begin you can see on the agenda there I've got the summary um attached with I have form one which is our general fund and our multi-year projection I have

034our current cash flow and then also um I do two narratives one on the general fund and one on the uh other funds um as well as my presentation is attached there I'm not going to read through any of that because my my presentation covers that oh good it worked so this is the 2425 second interim and this is it'll be a quick report so this is basically where we're at um through December in our fiscal year so when we do first interim it's through October 31st and then second interim is through December 31st and we just kind of review where we're at in terms of the budget so in the second inter room we have some assumptions which is basically basically just the data we use to project what's going to happen in the

035future so the state is projecting stronger revenues currently um but they're not talking about increasing any ongoing funding just things kind of staying steady and stable uh the current Cola is at 1.07% um and it's projected at 2.43% for next year and our average ada8 is currently at 772 so if you think of our enrollment being around 805 um our Ada is 772 just to put it in perspective this time last year our average adaa was 811 um because we had a higher um higher ada8 years factored into there so once P2 which is our reporting period for attendance comes in April this number could change uh our unduplicated pupil count is 580 and that's up one student from last year which is good to note because we actually are down in enrollment over last

036year around 40 students less but we still um have a high number that that brings in some additional funding for our students who need it and then we always put in an average step and column increase um to account for people moving on the salary schedule year over-ear steps and then um like a flat projection for stir and purs um knowing what those um retirement fund projections are um and then Health and Welfare we put in around 4% because it's usually trending at that much each year that our costs are going up and then um the NB has some adjustments from positions that were funded with onetime monies so there were some that were ending in 2526 and some that ended in 2627 so in order to meet our reserve and the nyp um we

037had to account for those positions um going away um or we wouldn't need our minimum reserve and then we have lower federal and state restricted funds in the out years um because a lot of those big numbers we saw for a while from the co funds and different things that were one time so now we're kind of getting back to more normal uh levels and then because of that then other budgets are going down as well because maybe we did more capital projects we bought devices and things and so we had extra money that wouldn't be there so we have to kind of have more reasonable levels for that to meet our reserve requirements so um for the second interim what is our current status so we can self-certify as positive meaning um we can

038meet our financial obligations through 26 27 and in May we'll have an online uh budget revive and we want to see if the cola will hold um if you know the revenues are stronger in the state sometimes um things can increase um but we've had years we in May our quota goes down our C current cash balance is 2.9 Million there and our cash flow out is approximately 1.3 million for payroll benefits and accounts payable so this cash balance sustains us until the tax posos things so if you're doing the math there and you're like wait a minute 1.3 million a month how are we going to finish out this year Well April we get another uh tax allotment that um will make our cash balance increase and we're able to pay off the rest

039of the year um we are down as I mentioned earlier around 40 students so that does impact the funding and our special education contribution it's only increased around 60,000 since budget adoption but that's due to some of these costs you're seeing from process and just as a reminder we receive around 300,000 for special ed but our budget is 1.8 million so that's my big soap box when I go to meetings and event just saying there needs to be more funding for special ed because we're only receiving um you know small portion of what we need so this sorry it's hard to see but I just wanted to say um I usually have a page um where I show the restricted funding um updates from first inter to second room and basically the biggest change you

040see there um because if you look at the total balance underlined at the bottom you can see that our restricted balance has gone down a couple years ago it was three or four million but that was with the covid funds um the biggest change is mainly from the learning recovery BL Grant because there's been some things we needed to add like some three temporary AIDS um that are funded with that along with some other things that it's onetime money that's why the things that we added are temporary but from first interum to now that's what has changed in the budget um you know when you see um a further slide where I show what what changed it's mainly in our restricted balance because you'll see that we still need our Reserve L because we really

041made changes only and restricted and this is the first time I've seen this where we usually have changes on our lcff funding but it was the same um which uh kind of concerns me a little because usually it'll go up a bit and then I get excited because I go to load the budget and everything's really tight I'm balancing everything out I'm like I'll have extra lcff well no not this time it was the same so that's based on our attendance um you know so when we build the budget for next year um we'll have to see uh what numbers stay true but usually this time of year um from adoption of the budget in June to First inter room to Second interim we'll have some changes in lcff but it's been pretty steady so

042if we had anything extra we don't have anything extra I'm not trying to be Deb be down okay so these are general fund stat so I just do a side by side comparison of the first interim and the second interim and you can see the main the biggest differences there um you'll see in Revenue that's the bus grant that um Robert had applied for where we turned in the two buses um and then that down below where it says capital outlay and there's a change of 84,000 um that offsets that so those two are wash so we got the bus Grant and we were able to purchase the used buses that meet the air board requirements so the biggest change is um in classified salaries you're seeing and that's what I mentioned on an earlier

043slide where we have three temporary AIDS they're 5.75 hours so they're um good siiz positions that are just for the rest of school year um to help with some issues that we've had and um in behaviors um but that is under onetime funds and then also there was some um reclassification of some instructional aids to parent Educators um that we've been working on a couple years in negotiations and then some special ed positions that were added like we had a um new student that started Head Start that needed a one-on-one Aid things like that so that's what's changed since the previous budget but overall you can see it was a h a small change um like I said 205,000 change but half of that is the buses um that's a wash and so our um

044our we meet our Reserve so we have our Reserve down there the required 4% and our restricted ending balance is what has gone down as I mentioned so that's a lot of those one-time monies um that are dwindling down and then we do have a remaining unrestricted Reserve that's a little more than first interim but right as I was working on this we got a notice from the county that um we have a a lot of our students are in the county special ed program and we are charged of Transportation billb so for those students to get to the programs they attend in the county every year they did be up the cost between all the districts and so at the beginning of the year they give give us a number of what that cost

045is and then throughout the year it adjusts so they let us know that ours went from 62,000 to 82,000 so in well last year it went to 198,000 so I'm happy with 82,000 um so in my mind I'm like I've already set aside this extra 16,000 in a way because I know that's a $20,000 difference that we and we just need a reserve so there's not um any extra to move around and we're just getting creative at this point and try to come up for fun with funding for things so next we have our lcap and budget development with our Community Partners that we start over the next few months and then as I mentioned the P2 that's our attendance uh that's our number that we're funded on and when when they build the budget

046you either get the current year or the previous year whichever one was higher but now that we're using the threeyear average um you know it really doesn't matter it's a the three years average together and then the May revise is ual so we do that one online we don't go like we do for January and then in June we have our two board meetings so the first meeting where we have the public hearing to review the budget and the out cap and then we have the second meeting where we adopt it so these next few months is when we're really just trying to see um you know what's going to be in the budget what we right out the gate what do we have to have for next year and then what else is there

047that we need how are we going to fund that that sort of fun stuff thank you Tara for always being so detailed and explaining it so well action one question so that increase in the classified salaries for those temporary AIDS are those positions going to go away at the end of the year or are you evaluating that to see if that's maybe something that's going ongoing and then as of right now we posted it as a temporary position with an ending okay um but you know of course if they're finding um you know there could be talks of well we do have a little bit of one time learning block grant money left what are we going to use up for next year you know what positions do we have in there currently we have

048five certificated positions plus these AIDS so we'll have to kind of see what are we going to need and this is how much is left and um or is there going to be other funding um you know if we found something that we really needed but so we were strategic in making them temporary they're awesome people of course we we love um having I'm sure the teachers love having the help from them but we have to look at whether um we can sustain that thank you and and when terar talks about like depending on more funding right there's a grant that I submitted that I'll find out about in May that might be able to take care of some of these things that are one time and then also there's some talk about potentially some

049onetime money coming down um to districts of course course we don't know what our apportionment will be for that but you know that would be great if that happens um and then maybe we can use some of that depending on where things stand at at that time questions okay so do a roll call vote hi good job thank you excent okay item nine information items our TSS presentation that is our teacher support specialist Mr Garrick McDonald going to a presentation just going to get it loaded up be right there okay perfect yeah okay you can see that all right hello everybody I'm so excited to be here um if we haven't had the chance to meet uh my name is gar McDonald I a third grade teacher at elementary and the teacher support specialist for

050the district and I'm going to be talking about the latter of those two today providing you a little bit of background on the position what it is what it does and then also talking about the progress we've made this year towards our district needs and uh future goals okay so the first thing that I'm going to talk about is just what is the position so the TSS Works alongside classroom teachers and that's how it was designed and that's what it does and the goal is to increase instructional Effectiveness and efficiency by boosting teacher support so of course teachers can do this right teachers can be efficient they can be effective but who doesn't benefit more from having additional support everybody does and especially teachers with how many things that they had to tackle on a

051daily basis so providing them these this extra support as an outcome we have improved academic performance and then also uh you know we're doing this by providing in and out of class assistance so uh we're talking about you know in class we can do co- teing we can do modeling we can just sit and observe to learn what the instructional strategies are that these teachers use what are their strengths what what can we uh recommend and then also out of class what are we talking there we're talking about mainly appointments and and meeting with teachers to find out what their needs are and to also deliver um Hardware maybe it's robotics maybe it's VR um in class we can also do training for the teachers on Hardware that's existing resources so same thing you know

052we have so many wonderful things in terms of Robotics and VR and AR and so we can train the teacher we can train an a we can train a volunteer parent or we can come in ourselves I can come in um so we also Implement new materials um in the classroom to ensure high quality instruction Advance their skills we'll be looking at a few examples of that tonight and training on instructional strategies and resources that's a big big ticket item there and so we'll see many examples of that today um and then also fostering the growth mindset so this is really important it's something that gets thrown around a lot and I don't think it's taken quite as seriously as it should be so here at this District it's really important that the TSS position

053helps to embody a growth mindset in the sense that we have a lot of work to do and we need to make sure that we have a growth mindset so we're open to change we're willing to learn we're always doing self-reflection and nothing is ever closed done 100% forget it it's perfect right we're always saying let's come back and let's see how can we make it even better just like with teachers right you have these teachers that are super duper good and would you ever you know just say no I'm not going to observe that teacher anymore they got it they know what they're doing no you're going to observe those teachers just the same as you're going to observe the ones who need more support because they can get even better um also even

054the um and I want to do here we go here we go I want to uh the logo is important too a darn my laser point is not showing up I'm trying to be real teing um but the the logo is important because it's the philosophy of the TSS position that unlike most districts and you know traditional roles that are educational technology right it's not in my opinion it's too much on one side right it's too much Tech or not enough Tech and so we're really striking that balance where we're using technology to improve our teachers improve our student outcomes but we're also not forgetting the traditional um techniques and resources that are not involving technology um so finding that balance the first educational resource I want to talk about is Ed protocols for the

055sake of this presentation this is going to be treated as a new resource now teachers out there will know what we have books and we have had John kle come before but what we're doing this year is totally new um and something we've been wanting to do for a long time and so we're with etu protocols we're working with John kipo he is the co-creator he's a local educator I'm sure you've heard the name he's well known um and we're lucky to work with him he's offering coaching sessions at OAS right now and it's with uh three teachers so we have Stacy Hudson in fifth grade we have Christin in first grade and then myself in third grade so a quick shout out that those two teachers are great examples of teachers that embody that

056growth mindset so when we were trying to figure out how are we going to do this right we wanted to just start with one site really kind of do it well before spreading too thin uh get a good range of grades considering it's a tk5 and so first third and fifth was a great idea um and so you know when we offer this opportunity to those two teachers they embrace it with open arms and they uh learned so much and they've strengthened all the things that they already were good at so it's just a great example of what we need to keep doing um we're doing in these coaching sessions he's teaching us new Progressive highly effective instructional techniques in the form of lesson frames and so there's so much here and you really have

057to see it so come into the classrooms and we'll show you what we're talking about and you can go to all three you can come with John's here who's coming up uh at the end of the month um but so lesson frames are a lesson um but the beauty of it is that you teach the the way you would do the lesson how this what is required of the students to engage and get something out of this so the directions and the specifics and then once you've taught this and this is a really highly engaging type of lesson not your traditional one so it's often times using technology but there are paper versions too and you actually want to start with paper um but once you've taught the lesson frame then you can just take

058the material out and then you can supplement or put in new content and now you are you're saving time and you're able to repeat this on a daily basis and and therefore you're getting increased academics because now you're not having to spend any of the time teaching the kids this is what I want you to do this is how you do it they already know and so you can just get right down to the educational content so improved pacing additional differentiation something that is oftentimes challenging it can be a bit of a uh difficult situation for teachers you know we need to differentiate what's a way I can do that this is a great solution one of many that are out there and then also supplement curriculum so this has become so useful in my

059classroom in uh talking about I ready and the diagnostic or even the state test which we really want to pay more attention to we are and so you know you think math and the main domains of um data measurement and geometry and those are typically domains that are saved in your traditional Core Curriculum pacing guide for the end of the year and so the problem with that was there's a lot of problems with that uh but you know you could um you know by the time you do diagnostic one diagnostic 2 you know we've seen that oh they're doing horrible in these categories these domains because we haven't caught it yet and yeah there's some I I ready my path but that's not enough that it let a drop in the bucket and then also

060um even if you stick to that pacing guide and at the end of the year you get to it uh you might have not hit it well enough because you're really crunched on time um or you don't hit it at all and that's a reality for a lot of teachers as you know you know we don't always get to everything um that's that we lead to so this is a great solution because you can take these protocols like I'm doing this year and like so many of the other ones like Christy and Stacy are doing and other teachers out there too that are great you know Michelle Burton's really good at this and I know lots of teachers at wasuma have been doing this with me um so we're think about this so those domains

061of geometry and data measurement instead of just saving it for the end we can supplement our curriculum our instruction uction with these Edy protocols throughout the whole year and so uh they work great as a a starting activity when they first come back from recess and you can say okay sit down let's do all right because it's you've repeated it so many times it's just drop Go kids do it and then of course you're leading the whole thing but they can do it every day they start at the beginning of the year it never gets boring because there's so many protocols you can teach and so diagnostic one they'll have data measurement in there in Geometry diagnostic two you bet it's getting even better diagnostic three they're crushing it and then by the time they

062do the state test you can just see the the the beautiful Snowball Effect if you will so that's educ protocols the TSS has also been supporting I ready and how we're doing that is with instructional videos and so we are assigning doing creating videos on assigning lessons to supplement our current curriculum yeah we're doing videos on standards Mastery how to assess and use that tool to get a better idea of maybe summative or form assessment analyzing and resetting the diagnostic principal Williams mentioned that the last meeting that this was a very beneficial feature in our last round and brought up our scores so much so we're really happy to see how quick these subtle changes can have a massive impact and then all this exemplifies asynchronous learning so and this has become such an important

063way for our teachers to learn always was but it's I have seen that this is actually a majority of the way that teachers are able to learn there's still great demand for synchronous you know iners traditional faculty meetings and trainings but this is even better because they're so busy um and we're maximizing our investment so we're not forgetting like a lot of school districts right it's always what's the next best thing what's the solution to this really difficult problem of our te our poor academic results with students in this country it's not you know one programing first of all it's always your teachers that's the number one thing that is going to improve your mics is the quality of your teachers um and so that's you know again we were lucky with great teachers but

064we're also supporting them even more and hopefully more than any other District um and we're not forgetting what we've invested in before like I ready moving on to something else we're continuing to look and use and improve what we've invested in which is good for our district right in terms of money we want to maximize everything we buy uh supporting youly another program that we're using the TSS to support um this program with and so how we're doing that is we're doing alignment guides for kindergarten first grade second grade those are all in something called a Shar drive and so you know for these grades um this is an existing resource because it's in its second year at wuma first year at OBS and so we're using wonders but that's our Core Curriculum so we're

065also using youly which is University of Florida literacy Institute so they're a bunch of researchers and teachers and just people just doing great work with the science of reading on how we can really revolutionize the way we teach each reading or and maybe not always revolutionize but fine tune um and so we're doing kindergarten first grade second grade wonders and we need a figure out where do the two link up where are my wonders lessons um correlating with my uly lessons so that you can use both um well and so we've done that and then we have and that needs to be used more and more support given to the teachers with that but it's all in this shared drive and this is something I wanted to talk to you about so this is our

066first great example of the partnership between the TSS and the CTO with creating a really uh Progressive Rich infrastructure tech technology infrastructure and so these drives are data repositories for information and so as teachers move about whether they want to change a grade or what you they retire whatever it all the information stays so as people come and go they can access the information that's key also these drives are set up for each grade and so we have first grade so now it's not the CTO idea let's not do a first grade one for o OES and wasuma let's just do one so now we have more collaboration communication between wasuma first grade teacher or teachers and then also our OES teachers and so same thing with middle school right oci teachers will start communicating

067collaborating even more with wasuma teachers um also these you know this all came about you know big kudos to Christine new and her first grade team at that time and created it and then I came in and I started using it and saw this is really useful because all the great things she uses and has Acquired and tried I have access to and now I can use it improve my instruction and my student performance and then uh when our co- teammate Debbie Elliot was with us she went to second grade and said I want this so then I met with Debbie and she said why doesn't everybody have this for each grade so well that's a great idea so then Stephan and I put our heads together and we created this and this will be

068rolled out to teachers in the next couple weeks it's totally cre ready to go so we have a youly folder we have grade level folders We have a um a student B management folder we'll talk about later um and uh we'll further support our teachers as we go with this resource it's just a you know still second year first year so there's a lot of work to do uh professional development this is an area that the TSS or really building upon the great work of Chris Barnes who was our educational technology coordinator got that right and she did a Fab job and one of her areas that she really really excelled in is the you know PD supporting PD and for example Q so we're really just building on our great work but with the

069idea of growth mindset here it's never we're never done we're never saying that's that's great let's just leave it where we we put our heads together well what is how can we make this even better how can we down at the bottom bring improvements back not to just the people who attend the conference but benefit all teachers and students and so this year for the first time we're communicating really clear expectations and deliverables and so we're saying every attendee which we're happy to announce this is next week so we'll come back with so much great information we'll share with you uh we have nine Educators going everything from the superintendent all the way to our CTO to the TSS we've got uh first grade teachers all the way up to middle school so you know

070we've got Christine new Erica Ro show we got uh shelle Burton Stacy hudston thees r and even dawn Smith who's leading our Bliss so the variety is so rich and again these are all teachers with that growth mindset what we want to see even more of so big shout out to them um and they will be required to present in the style of udl which is principal MCU taught me this one is that you know udl you want to give you multiple options to demonstrate your Mastery of something says he gave me a book and I read this book and he said in the book it said you know don't only just have the students do udl teachers need to do udl too to demonstrate that you really take this seriously so okay let's have

071our attendees for you do it so then we're giving them four options on either an overarching theme or your favorite session you're going to uh produce one deliverable and it can be uh instructional video it could be a really nice well-designed infographic it could be a a well-written document with instructions and links or it could be a traditional presentation like we're doing today so building upon the great work that that we've done in the past but even taking it to the next step and really maximizing the benefit for all students the other thing that DSS has been able to help with is curriculum so um this is because of the you know our principles letting me help them with this important aspect we know they're very busy and so I was very grateful to be

072able to help out here and get some good experience and so I've been helping with the 6th 7th and eighth grade history curriculum that we're looking at adopting and so what's that mean so working with the representatives acquiring the samples and then passing it on to them the experts and then the teachers who teach the subjects we're doing the same thing with math for when we're ready for that kind of adoption and then also now expanding I said principles all three principles because now we're looking at grades four and five um so this is a great partnership and it demonstrates that the TSS is not bill again finding that balance between Tech non-te um supporting teachers but also supporting administrators right we administrators need support too and in order to properly prioritize or get to

073the things that they have prioritized high on their list they need support too so this is one way that we're doing it uh one one way uh instructional support so in the beginning I mentioned that we're also looking at not just curriculum but we're looking at new exciting um features that can enhance our instru instruction and better support our teachers and so we have expanded our search and this is an important part of the position right because in the in even in the original creation the document that we all saw when it was flown was that you need to stay up to-date on emerging Trends and stay ahead of things and figure out what's what's new what's what's research based and and that's what we've done here so we are further improving student academic performance

074by bringing on next year Magic School common lit and enhanced cammies so magic school is an AI content generator and this is not for students it does have a student component but we're not doing that we're doing it for uh teachers that's how we're going to use it and why we are doing this is because it with the use of careful and strategically designed AI we can enable and support teachers to do things that dramatically improve student outcomes for example every single class can easily have a syllabus and then you know the teacher and the subject experts go from that starting point and they refine it and make it a proper super well vetted document every teacher can now have a rubric for a summit of assessment right and show that rubri to those students

075saying this is how you will be graded this is what I expect um again with principal mcru teaching me the udl aspects right every student can have for ass summi of assessment something big on the report card you you can have Exemplar non-exemplar samples so now you can say here's what I want here's what I don't want and I'm not saying teachers aren't doing this but now we can you know everybody can do it and we can expect everybody to do it especially with more support um so these traditional really timec consuming tasks but are so important almost mandatory really now we can do it and really uh put it to use expect it and uh have it on a daily basis um common lit was through my communication with teachers I mean so many

076of these ideas aren't from you know I don't get these things on my own right they're other teachers people I talk to right so teres Ryder I'm in her class and she's got common lit and newella and then I start the conversation with her and then I start talking to the other teachers at oon and then I start talking to the principles and well we really want this and this is why it's supporting our instruction so we work with common supplemental curriculum if you will uh extra reading material for our teachers um for their classes for their students to uh further Advance the education extend it extend the learning and then cing H C so this is a this is a good one because this is one that I took away uh and uh that

077was a mistake I and luckily as part of the position right I get to go to all the sites and there's roing days where I get to gooll around and I face Toof face conversations with teachers I go in their room I find them on the lunch breaks I email I call I do things and it became clear why'd you take Camy away I need Camy my bad so then I start putting bandaids on you know a couple situations that are you cannot live without and then we listen and we went all right we need to bring Camy back but let's figure out how we can do it even better let's not just replace what we had let's take it to the next level so luckily with our networking with edu protocols we're now bringing

078it back but we're going to do something never done before where we the Camy and Ed protocols have started teaming up so that's also a good sign that we're we're we're using programs that other people enjoy and are vetted if you will and so now next year we have the unique opportunity because of our close working relationship with Cammy and Edy protocols John kipo and the head lead for Camy uh Steve and I forget his not's name I watched him demonstrate Cammy and someone who used a lot of tech I was blown away and so then of course I get Michelle on the phone but they're going to V I asked them I said okay for our district I want you both com for the you know for the training for our onetime training and

079that okay no problem we can do that we'll do it in person so we're bringing back cmy but making it even better and again all that especially you know Edy protocols we're again we're we're maximizing our investment which in terms of dollars is really important here's a big one so the TSS position and I'm getting near the end here is also we've already mentioned the collaboration with the CTO and how important this is but I'm specifically talking about how we are a shining example of a Google infused School District uh through my collaboration with the CTO we have uh maximize our investment and I've really seen more likely more more times than not I've seen how beneficial this investment is and what has been done to invest in the Google ecosystem and how we need

080to continue this investment in the Google ecosystem I'm talking um Chromebooks I'm talking chromecasts I'm talking all sorts of software and Hardware that we are using and we will continue to use or use new stuff in the future and specifically you know Stephen our CTO he goes to these conferences with other people in similar positions and time and time again it's the same thing they go what how do you have this Rich Google ecosystem we want that how did you do that and they want it because it saves us a ton of time it reduces immense amount of problems for us so if we don't have nearly as many problems student security is through the roof with Google so you're definitely on in the best uh partnership with them in terms of that and then

081also money we Sav so much money being a Google infused school district and someone who's really into Ted Google is has been for a long time at the front of education and Technology but they're just they're running away with it now um so we need to keep this up and this needs to be continue to uh supported and the TS is supporting this by uh we're happy to announce that we now have a Google Certified trainer there are three in Clovis there are four in Fresno and there is one in M County and that's us and so this is a really big deal because this is a huge uh attractive feature for H we have a Google Certified trainer we have a Google Rich ecosystem so we better have a trainer um and not just

082one right so many teachers out there are really great and can help them everybody our CTO can help them um but we also have a Chromebook Ambassador and that's brand new and so not only is this great for hiring but it gets us tons of free software uh literature uh on emerging Trends in education and instructional resources you name it you can imagine what I'm talking about uh and so much more and so really excited about that and and what we've done we're definitely we're winning the race when it comes to technology in fact John krio who's been in over 900 classrooms since protocols we're talking big schools down south all around the country even in other countries uh he's came here and I kid you not he said you guys have the best tech

083he's ever seen that's a huge compliment he also said that our security system is what he has been dying for other school districts in Madera to get and he was blown away that we have so we're doing great things the last slide is our student behavior management system now you have talked about this in Prior board meetings and so today we can give you more information on it um this really deserves a whole presentation but it's not you know this is sufficient for today um the student behavior management system is a comprehensive system so what does that mean it's it's for teachers it's for students it's for administrators and the part that's oftentimes missed parents so it's a simplified process that saves teachers time but not just teachers administrators students parents every stakeholder is Saving

084Time and the way it's designed is you have administrative tools you have teacher tools and then uh as the diagram sees there it shows there there's one tool in the middle and then out of that behavior intervention flowchart all these wonderful interventions are recommended holding kids accountable for their behavior having clear consequences but even more so super rich in positive reinforcement and then there are six main tools that we have created as a district totally original our own thing that uh we can that are really kind of like power tools um that come into play at certain points so it's consistency consistency consistency and this is the huge thing about all this stuff right from from uh instructional resources to uh expectations and deliverables to our behavior management system is that we need consistency we

085need consistency from class to class we need consistency from grade to grade and we need consistency across the district and with that consistency imagine you have a kid in TK and they start to need some you know extra interventions right we we know it exists um ample amounts well they get to now learn how it works not only the kids but the parents and then they go to kindergarten and then they go to first grade and it's the same thing so there's no gray area there's no frustration because it's handled differently from one teacher to the next that's where the problems come from we're talking about real transparency here and so now by the time with this consistency over grades we're working together we're using great growth mindset and now student you my first name

086student Garrick is in second grade he's not making the same problems anymore Mom and Dad aren't getting or whoever Guardians family they're not getting upset on the phone when they do get a call because they know how it works they know it's fair and um so it's really powerful it's created with a whole student in mind I mentioned the positive reinforcement it brings in PBIS or mtss it brings in um seal you name it uh it's compatible with other systems it did not get created in a vacuum or in a bubble you know early on with you mtss developing their new tools we met with them and made sure there's no duplication of efforts waste of money um and it's a real collaborative effort so we uh you know we started internal we worked with

087mtss and our administrators and then also started sharing it with teachers they already now we're on version two it already has tons of teacher input I'm talking real suggestions put into there by the teachers so taking you know putting them in the middle and saying obviously you're going to be using it you're the most important stakeholder here what do you think right you and students um and then also beyond that then we started collaborating with other schools so we worked with you UniFi we worked with riverol and cor school and they've been really around their behavior so we said what here's what we've done we showed it all what have you done they shared it all back with us so really great collaboration and transparency and a partnership and then we came back later and

088we said well we like all these aspects out of this I all these aspects out of this how how can we put the two together to create you know an improved version a super tool and so now we have that inversion too and in growth mindset right in self-reflection this isn't done this it will never be done it's always going to be refined and improved and the communication channels are completely open all teachers are included all parents and students and administrators so it's uh everybody's welcome to share right because we're all players in this system um that's it so thank you uh as you can tell I really like talking about this stuff so thank you for letting me come been looking forward to this does anyone have any questions go ahead me first of

089all thank you for speaking of you're one of the few people that come in here and actually speak in such a way that old me with my hearing you're not using the M thank you for welcome I appreciate that I um what is an enhanced Cami I that's my that's my clever wording there so we took away Camy as a cost-saving measure and enhan Camy means we're bringing back Cammy all its features plus is it no it's not Eastern thing no no no the comp is called Camy um it's a it's a it's a program yeah for um it started out as a PDF editor but that really downplays the power uh it is you can take for example you have common L right they have over 10,000 or thousands and thousands of great articles

090on any subject Science History math you know literature and you can a teacher take that you know put it into a udl plan where there's multiple means to expose yourself to this information one is an article and then the students pull it up on their freaking their perfect beautiful you know Chromebooks and then and then they they can edit that they can put notes they can highlight they can collaborate so that's what Cami is an enhanced Camy is where we are um now getting all the new updates and also the EDG protocols have been uploaded creative um program where yeah people can get it goes back to course oh yeah yeah in fact the teachers can see say you're in my class and I assign you a a PDF right on Ancient Egypt and I'm

091teaching sixth grade I can literally see each kit working and I can instantly provide feedback right there I can add a note I can leave a voice message it can even do you know all sorts of crazy really awesome thanks okay yeah one of the minute and we're doing some of this right now aren we yeah yeah teachers are using cam so I love infomercials I mean I'm up all night buy I don't get paid by cies so so what are you're just presenting this to us I'm waiting for the punch line for this one time price today the next 10 hours do who do I call my question was the behavior management system so is that and you said you're on a 2.0 so that's something that you are developing with the staff and

092everybody and is is everybody um in the loop with that now or is it like just a select group I mean I'm just curious like how far into this program you are for the syst yeah um I'm going to pull up something real quick let's see um I'm going try something seven okay here we go thinking on that I wanted to ask what what do our principles like this so this so let me answer the question so he's gonna answer for you yeah I got it um where it's still to his laptop can they're gonna say stop stop talking um no we're still still in an early phase in terms of we are the principles have been shared this tool this system um and we have a meeting schedule to uh really sink our teeth

093in to get more collaboration with them really hear more get more feedback from them and then incorporate that feedback so uh we still have a lot of work to do but we're doing this in a timely manner so that we can get it out to our teachers ASAP this is the collaborative process that has been done so it started out first draft we're talking version one it mainly blsd mtss working with us blsd admin and then then we rolled it out to teachers and got a lot of great feedback there of course and then we started the second draft and so from there we worked with you unified they also worked before we worked with them and so we got their stuff which they got a lot of stuff from a southern cow school and

094so they're in there too and and now this is even out of date because now we have even more um feedback from teachers and further inputs what's that are we on the oh we're right we're that second yellow rectangle right there version two I like to call it 2.0 you know real Tech here trying to compete with you know Google Apple you know good yeah any other questions I'm really excited about that um that was something like as a parent in the classroom I felt like there was inconsistencies going from class to class and confusing for kids and I I and I think it's just wonderful for like Subs who come in and help I think for them to have the the plan of you attacking it from all sides I love it anyway I'm

095excited yeah and we'll be able to with everyone's feedback and of course keep it at all you know continuing to communicate never shutting the door always open to new ideas you know we can once we have a really polished version we can put that up in the classrooms and so when you have a sub in there they'll be instructed where it is and you can reference this and this is what we expect and this is what you do and I've heard from new teachers that oh my gosh this is exactly what I want I've heard from Subs oh my gosh that's what I want and I've heard from veteran teachers that wow can I get that right now so we're we're expecting some really good things okay thank you so much [Applause] oh sorry so

096sorry first of all thank you for coming tonight appreciate it and then is this your first year in this position that you yeah this is the first year of the whole TSS position okay yeah so so you're developing these programs developing these ideas collaboratively with everyone with the growth mindset for future success in all areas sounds right so are you going to continue in this position is this something that teaching a class as well yeah so it's a you know it's a lot of time but it's something I'm obviously really passionate about and love to do um you know and yeah and of course I would love to continue doing this um and it needs to be continued because you know we've seen just in one year the amount of you know it's kind of

097like this thing is uh in many ways the kind of the last piece the piece that strings everything together the Capstone and we really have a working system I think the TSS is another thing it's really kind of like in terms of a a diagram it's at the middle of this web where I I get to have so much shared success because I get to work with the CTO I get to work with the district office I get to work with the administrators on each site how each site has its own unique needs um and that's something we're going to you know I would like to see is that each site has its vision and its goals and its measurable expectations and outcomes and and then driving really PD events I was just sharing with

098Mindy this morning in the parking lot you know well for future PD you know what we boys just you know kind of oh you're cute you know and I I know there's so many other things people go to but I'm just thinking from a TSS point of view the one that really stood out and has always been the one that stands out C but we can really open the door and be like all right well we're going to Target specific PD based on specific needs for each site and then we can look at measurable data for each teacher and go okay who's going to benefit the most and then also don't forget the teachers that are really you know crushing it maybe they should go with some of these other so yeah I would like

099to continue the position position I think it's really important sorry sorry yeah I I I can't speak for you guys but I love to come when John comes and yeah he um that's a that's an experience trained by John yeah like you got I mean I drink extra coffee he'll he'll TW you on multiplication division beon we started at the same time yes yeah you yes you know a little while yeah so we're lucky I mean the kids love it right and he he's at the Forefront of uh totally radical uh re you know totally um so research based uh has results right such quick immediate results that in one session in one hour with John you can in I mean we had rting for example he showed me this new thing with writing and

100an ny protocol and we had kids that normally are writing they go can we do it again right and then and then I was just talking with Michelle Burt and Stacy Hudson and Stacy sharing that oh her her daughter-in-law is you know using this program too and but they're doing the same thing too so yeah I me John come he's I can give you the specific date but he'll be here he's in every class and it would be a really good thing for you to see that March 27th March 27th write that down y just at your school or yeah right now it's just there we we asked you know him the expert what what do you you know we love for one he's given our district a very beneficial um agreement where you know

101we're so and so he we asked him well we' love you to do a bunch of sites you know we all could benefit from this but what do you think and he said it's better to start in one place really build the foundation before I say walk away and go to something else so let's let's just focus on OES and then we can talk about future plans for other sites thank you apprciate thank you information items we have now a 9B academic achievement report so um there's one attachment it's not a big report but I um when I did my report at the last meeting there were some questions around because one of my slides was on special education and there was a question about how many of those students are like just speech and

102language only as opposed to students um with an IP that have maybe speech and language and and other services as well and so I just did a quick um graph there for you so total students in the district 803 total IEP students 172 speech and language only IEPs 52 and then so then the math right iips that are not speech and language only 120 and then I just thought these other two items would be helpful to know about the number of students receiving Mental Health Services through their IEP is 32 and then um the question was asked asked last time um that percentage of special ed did that include 504 students and the the answer to that is no but I just thought it would be interesting to know how many of our students are

103on 504 plans so that's 27 um and then there's just a quick little Pip with um the students on speech and language only students on an IP compared to rest of the students quarter yeah so yeah I mean it's it's kind of nice in a way because you look at it you can take those speech and language kits out not that they're not important but just that speech and language is a little bit of a lower lift than a student on you know a heavier IEP then it's 16.7 so now we don't look like a quarter of our kids are you know in special it even though approaching that but not in the same with the same L yeah maybe not as many services right like obviously if you're speech and language only then like

104that's your service right that's your special ed Service um so yeah and I think the you know obviously the hope would be that those 52 students at some point would exit house but yeah not all of them maybe but you know when you have the first grader that with the list or whatever you know or the stter and you know they can work on that and hopefully progress out then that's yeah I would say more often than not those kids graduate sometimes students who start with the speech and language only then end up with further assessments down the road and then sometimes we'll have another qualifying disability and then they they need more services that does happen yeah um but usually less less often than than the other way right yeah thank you for you're

105welcome okay 9C enrollment uh Ada reports read them off so as far as the enrollment um sorry I turned this off hope it doesn't make a b um the enrollment is the same it was 803 last time it's 803 this time we have a few more at o oci Splat Bliss has a couple more assum went down a few some of those kids maybe went to Bliss so no big changes there and then I also attached the uh Ada to enrollment comparison report um it's not much different than the previous month um was 91% at two sites and 93% that was Suma so but we before preco we used to be 94 95% so we're still not seeing it go back up in terms of the absences and you just look at one site Ur

106for example if they have an enrollment of 3141 students but the attendant for that day is 311 and you know that's what we get funded on you can see how all three average together does really um affect the funding when you get around 13,000 per student so I'll keep that brief because we have a lot of in District transfer report says there are no inter District transfers in or out of our district since the last meeting accomplishments and other reasons to celebrate from throughout the district Oak Creek Intermediate custom agree you are all right thank [Music] you this is we are no all right um here we are uh oek intermediate past three months or something like that we've been doing a bunch of stuff uh we had a celebration for the 100 day of

107school which is a little bit different than it might be Mir uh in the in the little kids stuff but our leadership uh room one of the things they do as a leadership team uh makes a poster for all the teachers and the staff and that kind of thing uh which is fun it's a fun way to um celebrate and kind of teache teachers about things that they're known for and that kind of stuff so they're kind of silly but but fun like that um let's see uh we had the cadet cor competition going on and we had Noah s won a first place in the U Brigade individual major award which is major accomplishment for him so we've had um with our KET Corp we've had really a lot of success in in different

108competitions and we have several students that will be going to a two-e um Camp over in St Louis uh over the summer uh and it seems like the last I talked to Tara it sounded like we were going to be able to use some he out funds for some of that so that sounds uh good to be able to be able to send them for uh without a price so that'll be very cool um they do everything at that camp uh depending on the age and that kind of stuff they do some uh some shooting in that at a shooting range they and they do like a survival training where they go out and they have to spend the night on their own it's managed and all that kind of stuff so it's safe but

109they have some really cool activities that they do out there um and our people are with them um we've had some of our leadership kiddos coming over and visiting kindergarten and um and spending time with them doing different projects and activities with them which is great for the kindergarten kiddos and really fun and uh educational for our leadership kids uh learning how to to work with other kids and and meeting their needs which is a great thing to have teenagers doing is meeting someone else's needs um it's not what they're used to you might be not surprised to find out um and they do a great job with it and they love doing it for sure so uh we appreciate cat and her teachers having having us over that's a it's really a good deal

110um recently we had juggling going on it's one of the things that goes on in PE we had had uh some students it happens uh over the year so as a sixth grader you you kind of learn as a seventh grader you build your skills and that's an eighth grader we had kids that were juggling 300 plus times they were counting and seeing how how much they could juggle um it's really a neat thing uh it's one of the many things that we have in in PE that um that people wouldn't think of but it's great for hand ey coordination and that um anybody here know how to juggle no all right we come over anytime and I'll show you how to do it I I will show you how to juggle no problem I've

111been able to juggle since I was a kid my brother got some like little bean bags for juggling for Christmas and I was totally jealous so I would snag in and taught myself how to do it um but it's a fun thing to do and um and it's just one of the things going on there uh we have our Lego robotics going on we have many students who will take this it's a quarterly um elective but we have many students who will take this quarter after quarter because you can go further and further so you can go a quarter and learn some stuff or a semester and learn more or you can go four quarters and really get into it and they're using um kind of preset programming for it I don't honestly know a

112whole lot about it but miss oarn is the teacher of this elective and um she's put in a lot of time learning about it and studying up on it uh Chris help through it that when when she was still working with us and so that's been great for some of the commities and it's a it it can fit a whole bunch of different students in there different types of students who are looking for different things um which is neat in an elective uh more recently we had inter mural volleyball Mr Peterson often times at lunchtime we put on intermal Sports and so he'll have people sign up and and uh for lunch recess usually Tuesday Wednesday Thursday they will compete against each other and then they end up having a tournament uh after maybe two

113weeks likely and then he gets some little priz for winning the tournament it's really pretty fun we have a lot of kids participate he's done everything from volleyball I think there's a slide in here that'll show us about Chess that he was doing when it was uh the weather was a little more incent or kind of like it is now but they've done soccer different things like that and it really get uh I think they've done flag football already um but it gets a lot of kids involved in stuff and so lunch recess it gives a real Focus to those students which quite frankly it's great for them but it makes it a lot easier for those of us that are do art Supervision in that also uh um it gives us a fewer kits

114to to manage which is awesome and these other guys are doing what they want we had the uh the leadership Club put on um coffee and donuts uh fundraiser and those are very cool um it turns out the kids love them probably more than the parents do it's fun to have parents come through and and that happens and we we make probably maybe 300 bucks on them to do it um which is you know decent for a half an hour selling donuts and and coffee and that um and there's a you know not a ton of setup for it uh Judy's is always uh super helpful on kicking in Donuts or giving us a Cut Rate or this time they didn't give us a cut rate but they gave us twice the number of donuts

115that we asked for so we had a massive amount of donuts um we had a lot of donuts U what's that you got to come with money in hand for this there so we did have a fair number of donuts left over in the staff Lounge that day you know but it's fun because the kids will come in we have coffee but we also have hot chocolate and then obviously donuts and it's fun to have the parents come through and grab something and their kids will be with them or they'll pick up something for for a younger kid who might be heading over here or something like that um so it's it's enjoyable and we have some music out there uh going on also uh girls basketball season record nine wins Zer losses tournament record

116four wi zero losses that came in first place at the tournament uh great showing there um so that was uh very cool um they had a great time bunch of NE kiddos playing soccer excuse me basketball for sure um our heart challenge so this is something that Jordan R's been uh helping the coordinate and uh we had a speaker come in uh We've do been doing a few different activities about par healthiness and that kind of thing I was you will get to the dad jokes later but I was trying to find some dad jokes about heart healthiness not a lot um but you know I was trying um so here here are some students uh doing some things um and looking at what it is to to have a healthy heart or participating in

117a um in a presentation that we had um earlier a couple weeks ago I guess so that's good um intermal chest like I was saying for the inclement weather uh we have Kudos coming in and playing chess in Mr Peterson's room you can come in and compete you can come in and learn how to play chess you know the moves and that kind of stuff um they particularly enjoy playing against Mr Peterson I played a few games myself currently undefeated um I like the ones who don't know how to play very well so you know I'm not a good um we had future Badger induction day um FBI day they call it this is where our students our eighth graders go over to yhs as do all the eighth graders in the area and um

118and our teachers go over also the teachers go over and do some working with their teachers and talk about what it is what classes mean what what kind of accomplishments would be necessary to fit into the you know what classes we know these KS sign up for and that so that's a good day for our um for our teachers to be talking to their teachers and then our kids get LED around in groups and shown around by um students all over the school where the classes are who the teachers are I went over there for a little bit myself and poked around and heard some of the spiels that the the teachers were given they have lunch over there and stuff so it's a good day to kind of dip your toe in the water

119the kids come back feeling kind of like kind of big and mighty and also kind of like shaking in their boots all at the same time you know um which makes sense because they're like almost ready to be in high school and they're almost ready to be under classroom you know and they're eighth graders and they're the big kids right now um here we have academic pentathlon so last Saturday we were down there in in the Ranchos and we didn't have a huge team but we had a good team uh we had one uh Aaron one of our students placed third in the uh essay contest uh we didn't get any team um Awards um FEA are you up next are you pres next month huh next month yeah okay so she'll get to brag

120quite a lot about how well was because they really cleaned up so an awesome showing for wasuma for sure our kids gave their best no doubt um and had a good time also so so that's a lot of it and they meet other kids from other schools and have a good time doing that and it is like I've been going for several years it is always super interesting just to sit there and watch the is I'm I'm in there with them as they're doing the super quiz like I'll be a proctor or something like that help give out Awards but when they're in there eating lunch and just kind of doing their thing it is it is really fun to watch them um because a lot of these kids are kind of in their element

121at that moment you know like you might see on the sports field or we might see in different places this is like this is a good place for these students who choose to do that not that there might be other there wouldn't be other places that would be great for them but but this is a neat place for them and they clearly had a blast and it was great to be with them there um oh and this is it I tell Dad ches periodically um you know so every day thank you um where's the best place to grow flowers at school kindergarten that's not a great all right what was the what's the black or's favorite drink hot chocolate um I have several um I have several books and and piles of cards and and

122websites that I use but every day when I give the do the announcements I do a stupid we hear that in the district yeah okay so um I don't know I think that it's probably likely that someone stole that had a little uh a little thing it was battery operated that would laugh or they would go oh you know make a way so up S I think someone stole it off my desk but I put that on there afterwards but it's missing this point so that is that um yeah and the one thing I didn't put on here was we just did some uh um udl training um with someone from Fresno uh County and uh Universal Design learning and uh which was being spoken about uh earlier here by Garett um and the idea

123with Universal Design learning uh feathers in with any any kind of good teaching that you want to do and the and the basic Foundation of it early on was Universal Design and it was an architectural thing it was how do we literally design buildings that make them accessible and Universal Design is about creating accessibility for Learners and it's about taking barriers and lowering them as much as possible and it's about looking at the presentation as being the difficulty compared to the student being the difficulty how can we make our presentation fit the people that we have and so we're looking I'm not looking into it we're gearing up on um and we're getting further into it we have another training that we're going to be doing um in a in a week and a half

124um and I'm really looking forward to learning more about that it's the perfect way to look at education and it's the perfect way to look at students and um and it includes everybody and that's the whole idea is that it leaves no one behind and it includes everybody and just how do we do that what do we do to make it accessible for you and what do we do for you and what what does that turn out to do yes it was really anything going be given toep thank you thank you okay we have our superintendent's report to I just have uh two things that I wanted to talk about quickly um on March 18th our fifth or eighth grade students are going to I have a presentation from knowledge saves lives titled fake threats

125real consequences the board knows all about that unfortunately we've had some significant um safety threats this school year um from students and so we thought it would be a good idea myself and the principles thought it would be a good idea to bring somebody in to talk to them about that and what the potential consequences are for that um I think a parent Square message went out or soon to go out to parents to let them know about it that included a little video that parents can also watch and then of course um you know if parents or if any of you are available um for that presentation you're welcome it is March 18th I'm going to get the times wrong but I know the first one I think is at oci yeah 10 at

12610 and um the fifth graders from OES are going to join them and then is at 1:00 wasuma yes one: atum so that's happening and then the other thing um that Tim touched on a little bit and I know Heather's going to get to brag about more um next time when she does her presentation is um the wasuma academic pentathlon team won second place overall on Saturday which I think ever that we can remember in a long time yeah so they did fantastic it was a team of about 19 students 15 students yeah somewhere is is okay uh there were 10 schools there yeah I mean on our team on wasuma though right yeah 10 schools um the coaches Mrs Amman and Mrs Springer right were the coaches they uh to see the looks on

127their faces they were so proud it was it was really cool to see that um so congratulations to students and um to the teachers and to their principal this is our turn thank you board member comments R oh I just got is um so I can't make it to that uh it's on Tuesday my workday is it going to be recorded or you said there's a video that went out to parents maybe I can look there yeah there's we can share it's a short video um I think it would be really cool we're not GNA record it but we can certainly report back to you on or I can yeah I mean I'm just curious yeah um I don't really oh um Miss I don't know how to say her name she your oh sorry

128uh anyway I just want to thank her for inviting us to come read for Dr Seuss day I had fun in her class it was short but sweet and um I loved it I want to do it again yeah it was fun thank you yes oh okay thank you sir that was a great presentation really enjoyed that um I don't really have any any Earth shaking comments tonight so we pass the like bad speak okay yeah I also want to thank G for coming in uh this evening and I think it's really exciting to hear all the positive things and moving in a direction that where teachers kids our school district can be successful we've always known we can do it so it's encouraging to hear the how you know so that's really cool so

129appreciate that and um I also got to go read at OES and um so I read a four classrooms it was so fun it's just so neat to see the kids and and they were all so respectful of me I got a couple hugs and and you know just kids love to listen to stories they just do and so it's really fun to read stories to kids period story so that was super fun for me and I will be at the knowledge safe lives at Luci and looking forward to also the 27th um to uh see what else is going on so yeah really exciting things happening and for the teachers too that are here thank you for coming I know it's late and um just keep pushing you're almost there I me I know

130it seems probably like you know the end of the line is is you know the finish line is far away but it is it is coming like a great train so you're almost to June so hang in there thank you for all you do since we have another meeting coming up I just will make it very short I've enjoyed being in Mrs Gwynn's kindergarten class so lots of fun and able to see what's going on in the classroom okay future agenda items anybody have anything for the next for meeting no okay next meeting date I have April 9th and we are joining this meeting and it is 802 do you want to go straight into the next yeah so obviously we're a little bit late for the next um meeting the public hearing but if

131we could just take a quick bathroom
