001e e e I apologize for being late we had some things that we had to discuss um we discussed in Clos session can you hear me Personnel Employee negotiation student discipline or other confidential student matters and pending litigation student versus bassle uh School District uh there was no action taken by the board so uh right now let see we're going to do our flag salute all stand I pledge aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the for it stands Nation indivisible andice why why do I keep getting kicked out uh elected board members G to have Oaths of office given by Mrs Townson okay can you guys hear me so Julie and Rhonda are gonna have me stand up and raise your right hand and then when I start I'll

002say I F state your name okay and then I'll say a little bit of the O and then you'll repeat and we'll get through it okay for the record we did this when we applied for school board as well so we're going to do it again I state your name do solemnly swear I Julie do swear do it together okay I that I will support and defend that I will support and defend I feel like we need to face each the Constitution of the United States the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of the State of California and the constitution of the State of California against all enemies born and domestic against all enemies foreign and domestic that I will bear true faith and allegiance that I will bear true faith and allegiance

003to the Constitution of the United States to the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of the State of California and the constitution of the State of California that I take this obligation freely that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion or purpose of evasion and that I will well and faithfully and that I will well and Faithfully discharge the duties upon which I am about to enter discharge the duties upon which I am about to enter thank you now okay item five consent agenda is there a motion to approve all move approval second okay do we have discussion on any of these items yes uh it looks like item um [Music] H my log de I don't know um item H the approval

004of the compensation for additional duties it's my understanding that um Mass has been cancelled um so I just think that um maybe this not like I like the stien for the work that gets done I just think that maybe there I would imagine this is a contracted item a negotiated item and maybe U moving forward there needs to be some language if it gets canceled and no one ever goes on a trailer something like that beated because there is work that's done like at the initiation of all of that and getting everybody signed up so yeah um I just it seems like sometimes we run into this and sometimes we don't and so I is there a um precedent do we have any yeah we've had a season where there was no snow you know

005um but they had still done that prep work um sometimes they only go up once sometimes they go up all the times it used to be 11 times and but they've always had the second not adjust as is okay okay well yeah and this feels like an unprecedented event since batter's never not or only not open one time however under these circumstances I think we do need to build in language because the weather is the weather we can't control it but at the same time to receive an entire stipend and never go on a ski trip seems unfair um to the district and unfair to other employees that are fulfilling their entire obligation with their other s duties so I think it should be explored within the contract of of negotiations moving forward so just

006I just want to make sure I'm clear so moving forward with negotiations on the Sens to look at some language to look at including some language around you know maybe things need to be prated if event you know if if it's cancelled if the whole season is canceled parts of the season are cancelled okay yeah and I don't know if there's a way to look at the sien with maybe the component of the paperwork is one side of it and then the going on the trip you know um however many times that is is another piece of it and then somehow trying to parcel that out so that if no snow comes and no one ever goes then they get half or whatever the the number is that is decided upon and if they end

007up going on all the trips or few or whatever just figure out how to parcel it out so that it's not just one lump sum if they never go on a trip yeah and if they go every time they're doing lesson planning for their sub too so that's a whole another piece that correct yeah so so yeah of course will approve the stien but it does seem a little iy to give the entire that the entire Duty isn't fulfilled okay thank you yeah I agree it you know I saw that on there and I was like yeah and it just got canceled so thank you for acknowledging that okay is there discussion on any of those other items I always like to thank people for their extra duties and for the donations thank you thank

008you br and I just wanted to acknowledge uh item e we're approving the retirement and resignation of employees and one of which I want to acknowledge uh Mike mure who's part of the uh MLT crew I know him personally from the church and he's just a wonderful individual and I believe he's contributed much as a bus driver and all of the other um maintenance he's a Mr Fixit guy here on campus and um he just has a really wonderful family his wife uh teaches our Sunday school kids every single week in part of the preschool and they're just really wonderful members of our church so and we'll be praying for him I'm sure people be praying for him with the issues he's experiencing requiring him to and let's see I just can't click I'm got

009to go see we do acknowledge uh the donations that been made by um Li that's on the warrants actually but thank you Rhonda and there was also our local restaurant the South contributed some money to us so thank you for that okay if that's it then um do we have a roll call i i i i eyes unanimous item six hearing a person's wishing to address the board I do not have any slips of any individuals who want to bring public comment but I just want to for the record uh read uh this at the public May address the board on any matter pertaining to the school district that is not on the agenda members of the public May sign up requesting to address the board by filling out a request form and turning in

010into the board president prior to the start of the meeting unless otherwise determined by the board each person is limited to three minutes and 20 minutes per topic if multiple people speak you may also email our executive secretary El Porter at basake sd.org prior to 12:00 p.m. on the date of the meeting if you would like to address the board your email will be read by a staff member at the meeting up to three minutes in length there will be no board discussion and no action will be taken unless listed on the subsequent agenda the public may also submit a request to address the board on each of the main items on the agenda as those items are taken up by spe specifying the agenda item on the public comment request form unless otherwise determined

011by the board each person is limited to three minutes per item just wanted to address that um that is an opportunity for the public to comment and we do not respond to those comments but we do take them into consideration okay item seven action items first one is public hearing resolution 25-7 2024 developer fee study this is the one you have to open right okay so how do I do that so okay we open the public hearing right now for any uh comments on this resolution 25-7 2024 develop a fe study so we last had a developer fee study in 2014 and our rate was determined at 96 cents a square foot um we have not done a study since then I was discouraged not to do it because I was told that possibly it

012could go lower so when I worked with this firm um I had them put in the contract that if the fee did come out lower that we wouldn't have to pay for the study um but the fee actually did come out higher it came out to 517 we did the study with um yuse so we split the cost because it would be students that um attend both our districts for this area and um they determined that the uh actually that's what Golden Valley theera most other districts are at the 517 so we were really uh undercharging that and losing revenues that could be brought into the district it's not just for new construction it's also for modernization and um Renovations so it could it doesn't mean oh you're just getting it because your District's growing

013so much because I know some people had said to me you know our role Ms down but you still can use it when there's facilities that need upda dating um and uh we were really happy that those results came out uh we also met with the assembly to talk about how you split it and we consulted with other districts and they said usually you do 6040 with Elementary and high school districts because the elementary districts have more grade ranges so they take um the higher percentage so we worked all that out with yede we're each going to collect our own fees separately so the 60% of the of the 517 is 310 so now we'll be getting $310 a square foot um for any uh new construction and then um 84 cents for commercial we

014hadn't been collecting anything for commercial so if you think in the last 10 years hotels all the things that have been devel why do they have no no feed um that's what we the direction that we were given before I came here on our form it said zero for commercial so it would have been from the previous study and I'm not sure why at the time they determined that maybe there wasn't as much commercial development but so now going forward um we'll have both those fees so once uh we have this resolution here and the study available for the public uh there's a process with the timeline we advertised twice in the paper about the public hearing so we've been working along since October was when the study came out and you're thinking why is

015it on the agenda now but there's a timeline after this meeting that in 60 days we can um increase our rates so then we're going to go to the county um permit office here and give them information so they'll know um going forward anyone who comes in to pull a permit whether commercial or residential they're going to have all the most upto-date information and direct them um to visit both districts some districts Co that split it like that would have one do it and then share it disperse it that way but because we already have Lana doing a great job and you somebody has their person doing it and have it in place it's easier to just do that and then we're going to cross check our list probably quarterly or at least at year

016end to make sure that people who pulled a permit went to both places but I think once the County's aware of that it'll just become part of the process we've had people come in and say don't I have to go to the other District currently us70 was collecting Euro and we were collecting 96 cents for this area um e was only collecting in Coors gold for the elementary and um so this study was great because it uh will help both the districts and um I'm glad that we decided to do the study and and it'll bring in revenues that we can use for things like those Portables that have been on hold or any other project if a building um you know need some repair or some updating so but it's only new construction right

017or no it's renovation and and um modernization it's not just construction new construction yeah I think my only comment is just how disproportion it is to residential versus commercial and I know you probably don't you know there's no control over that but thinking of a family that's trying to build a home that you know a th000 foot home now is going to be $5,000 in fees and then if you're going to do a th000 square feed in commercial you're paying 840 bucks so it just feels a little bit like well but I think most of the commercial projects are a lot bigger um you know the hotels you know could be 10,000 square e so it's proportional in that way because most of the commercial developments are a larger footprint so they're being charging almost

018a dollar um yeah there's not usually a smaller commercial development I mean there could be maybe like the Burger King building or something right for the most part homes are less and people are always surprised when they come in because they've built around you know Golden Valley or Chan and um so um I think it'll be good in the long run and it was good to uh we have the study you're allowed to change the fee when you have a um approved study and the resolution and you've done all the steps so now we'll be in place to have that and then if we did all of a sudden start growing and need to add classrooms or space we would have that resue to offset that okay yeah thank [Music] you to approve we're in

019a hearing right now the hearing did you want to check with the Our Guest to see if anybody wants to have a comment on that anyone like comment on this item just she talked about a commercial one being like 10,000 in this room this building is 10,000 so think of the the apartments for the motels is probably 20,000 no we got the apartment that was residential but we only they only paid um6 that's what I'm saying we missed out affected what's the date that that new it's 60 days after the resolution is passed so it'll be April 14th um so I didn't read over the study and the resolution because it's a lot there but yeah it'll be April 14th so it's still a little L okay till April 14th at least we're moving in

020the right direction for any other comments okay so this hear is closed and I do [Music] again so now we need a we need a now go ahead Ive to approve I'll second okay roll call I I allous I action items to approve the single plan for student achievement reports you have a motion to I make a motion we approve the single plan for student achievement reports I'll second okay any discussion on these I just want to say thank you to the principles for their hard work and getting these done working on them quite a quite a um what's it called plan document document that's the word I was looking for oh I think I did have a question actually let me turn this oh I had a question on um there was one second

021sorry oh never mind it's on so are there many areas that have asteris onas is that does that just mean there's no information it means that the sample size is so small that if you assigned the numbers that went into each category you would easily be able to tell who those kids were I apologize I was having technical difficulties see are there any comments discussion on any of these so approval got oh sorry approve it uh we're on call for this oh I I I unanimous okay item eight monthly items and financial reports a is monthly approval of warrants do we have a motion to approve the warrants I'll move approval of the warrants at the war do we have any discussion on this m were of I just had a question about and long

022course supplies and I I had submitted a question to you Tara and I didn't have a chance to see if you had answered that oh I didn't see that one okay it was a little bit late in the afternoon but I was just curious what the electives were that U oh I'm not sure lottery supp for the class rockets and watercolor oh cool say rockets and waterolor we done [Laughter] together ver I kind of want to see that now to see those okay thank you okay so v i i i i i Item B is Governor's proposed budget for the 2025 2026 school year I move approval of the governor's proposed budget for 2526 schol year I'll second it I think I was supposed to put this on information I think so too because why

023would we approve the Govern a waiting on oh no yeah it doesn't have doesn't say AC on this one it's an information item so sometimes under this section it's okay withdraw my second sorry it's on um so Michelle and I went to Sacramento and we got to attend the governor's budget workshop and usually I do a few slides on that I'll keep it short and sweet like me questions at the end yes questions at the end so right now the uh local control funding formula um is projecting at 244,000 more than current year but that is using last year's attendance numbers and right now our attendance is our Ada P1 came in 20 less and it's around 11,000 a student so it could um change from there the proposed Cola for next year is going

024to be 2.43% and um then there are some onetime funds that they've mentioned but nothing no data has been given for that yet so um I'm just putting it out there that they mentioned they're going to give us some onetime funds which you know means like they give us something for one year and then it goes again so some other revenues Federal funding and Title One and special ed are up in the air um with the new Administration and all the things you've seen with happening with the Department education all that and those are critical funding for us to have Title One and special ed funding so um that makes me a little nervous to think if that could go away we don't have anywhere else we would get it from um if it were

025to go through the state I the state gives us such limited funds as it is um our Up Is Down from 584 uh up down to 577 which decreases our supplemental and concentration grant funding by about 20,000 and then we still have top 28 um homeo School transportation and TK implementation and elop funding that's ongoing which is great because when they announced a lot of those sometimes they'll say it's ongoing and it could be two or three years and then they change their mind so those all of those areas um I mean Transportation covers our transportation program TK has really helped with um our ratio and and keeping that program where it should be uh and then of course elop we use for the my mostly the my club program as well as some of

026our great um presentations we've seen like Esports and other after school activities choir and such so uh and then the prop 28 art and music program um right now we have our amazing music teacher Mrs D and then hopefully um we've had our position posted for the uh other music teacher um for next school year but that funding will be ongoing so those will be great programs we can keep so this is a slide that I always do to show um you've got your projected lcff increase there in the middle so at the top we have our step and column so that um I ran a report from our U payroll software that shows what um the cost is for everybody who's going to move up a step next year and then the retirement increased

027cost that off along with that so our required expenses right out the gate without any other things we might appro programs or things we may need to add to the budget is the 218,000 um and then our lcff is 244,000 more so that only leaves 26,28 if you look back at other years at this slide there's usually a bigger number there um but the because the coal is only 2% um it's really not it's it's a wash um in this slide we got from school Services where it kind of shows you at the top there I'm not going to go through it line by line but at the top that's our current year our Ada and then that's the base Grant we get per Ada um then below it would be next year um projected

028with using um the lower Adas we're seeing currently because you're always funded at the previous year so you can see in that case we're H at a red a red number down there that's negative so even though they say you're getting a 2.43% cola it's actually a negative Cola because um your adaa is less so your Cola is based on having that increasing or strong Ada if your students aren't coming to school and your attendance isn't as good um and your enrollments down then it's it's more less than wash because um your Co ends up being negative and school Services created this slide and um encouraged us to plug our numbers in our own numbers in so you could really see because sometimes um in the community people hear oh a 2% Cola and then

029they get excited thinking oh that could be a 2% raise but not if we have lower enrollment so this is our history back when I started here in 2018 we had around 891 students uh it got as low as 811 after covid and um we're still not we still haven't come back from that even 21 22 22 23 we had in the 840s uh the main thing this year was we had the on less uh kindergarten class I'm going to get to that in a later slide but it's just less less um students being less kids being so right now we had uh the average um I had said the adaa was lower but they still are letting us use the three-year average so the ad is 780 and then enrollment [Music] 794 so I

030stole a couple of these slides from a great uh Workshop I did on on declining enrollment I just love this because everybody's saying oh our District's losing students you know what's happening what are we doing wrong what's going on it's not us it's the whole state it's all the districts okay so if you look at this slide here uh the blue bar represents the population so this is just California so that's the population in California um and that's projecting out to 2070 but people are leaving the state the population's going down then you also see the median age well that's going up so if the median age is going up you know are many of those people going to be having kids in 2070 when they're almost 50 years old facing enrollment decline so this

031is another great slide that I got for my workshop so the population has gone down 432,500townhouse it's also lower so fewer children means declining enrollment and more school closures so when people are saying why is our number so low it was 8.91 and now it's 100 less um that's just that I get excited about data because I'm a data person I get a little nerded out on that but there's less you know people they said at this Workshop people are having maybe one kid and you know 30 years ago they would have three or four kids so there's just less kids coming into our school as we have seen with having less uh kindergarteners last couple years so it's just going to be something we're going to have to think in in the long term

032in terms of planning and um it's going to affect the budget it's going to affect Staffing affect a lot of things um and it's just something to kind of keep in mind they were talking about that a lot at the governor's budget Workshop too so some next steps is we'll be working on Michelle's favorite acronym the elap and then the budget uh we'll go um at the the March meeting you'll see the second interim budget update uh that's one is my favorite because really not much has changed since first interim so that one's a little less stressful than the audit in the other times of the year uh and then we'll have our P2 report of attendance to really see is that our average going to be 780 or is our P2 going to come

033in lower and it'll be a lower number than that um and then in may we have the virtual May Governor's revision um and we'll have more solid numbers for that so um if anyone has question question that would be fine I thought um I was I attended a budget Al budget um workshop and they um were talking about the um Loa the um oh the legislative analyst office and they were predicting more of a 2% Cola yeah they're very conservative usually and they're closer than what the the government's budget says okay so I was wondering if you consider that when you're putting our yes and when we go to uh we have regular meetings with the county with all the um District business officers and um the county usually will recommend to us what cola

034they're hearing should be used but by the time um each time we do a calculator for second interim they'll tell us stick with the 243 or go with a lower one um yeah and I've heard that too that they but Lao is always more conservative so yeah okay then also I wondered what percent of our budget is um based on federal fund it's a very small amount um actually if you saw in our audit report we had to have an addition audit when you have over 700,000 in federal funds you have to have a separate audit from your regular audit um but a big bulk of that is our nutrition funds um which is three or 400,000 and then we have title one which is around 500,000 special ed which is 300,000 so it's not

035I could say it was maybe like 10% of the budget okay yeah cool yeah then my next question sorry is um on slide four you have have listed um down below the excess uh left for additional expenses and you have listed on their textbook adoptions I thought that we had a separate fund have we do have the restricted Lottery that we can use for textbook adoptions if we choose to okay so sometime sometimes we might have used regular lottery or other funding sources so I always have that on the list okay because it just depends where we want to what funding want to pull from okay thank you I'm done with my questions thank you I love being right here first a little less specific so you both went up to Sacramento for the was

036there any talk about switching over from ada8 to the enrollment as a basis they did say that every year there has been someone putting something on the floor to get voted for but nothing ever gets traction um moving forward yeah there's still talk ideas of that and like Scuttle about it but it never gets it never makes its way past the the legislative floor but they said you know I think there's only three or four states that do that Most states are based on enrollment and that's what is really is affecting us you know because if right now we have 800 and something students but our average well our p188 was 750 you know and you're funded on that much less um like I said figure about 10,000 a student if you have 50 less

037students you know that's half a million dollars there so they need to look at that I agree I have a question I was hoping to hear something a little more positive we're 70% of the way there well plus the Ada formula is so complicated and it makes so much extra work with the reporting make complicated I think they're worried if they switch to that what's the accountability of kids attending school um you know if the attendance doesn't matter as much and so there's been a lot of hesitation about that I wonder what the other states do in that case I don't know there's only a handful I know 14 right I think they're it's fine okay okay um I had a question on that same slide my question um so excess left for additional expenses

038and contributions to other programs special ed special ed contribution went up 106,000 this last year that doesn't include the due process and all the attorney fees and everything that we are like where does that money come from that's a very good question so we a lot of money we receive around uh 400,000 for special ed funding and our program right now costs 1.8 million so we're having to contribute the the 1.4 million and last year let's say it was 1.3 million so that's where this 106,000 comes in so yeah there it's it's extremely underfunded um and then you'll see during Michelle's presentation later later about our special ed population percentage how that's gone up as well and then that's just the basic budget that 1.8 million for um you know our staff our services our

039AIDS all that but then when we have things come up like we have um you know with due process um that's not in the budget so then we have to add that to to the special ed budget by making a bigger contribution so that's why a lot of times when we pass the budget maybe I said the special ed budget was 1.5 million but by the end of the year it's 1.8 million because of different things that we've had to pay and we are able to submit money to the special needs pool to get reimbursed like last year we got back 20% of 115,000 in attorney fees so there is a little little bit of Kickback in that way that we can submit some of the due process expenses but like the ongoing newe process

040we've had you know it's three qus of a million so far since 2019 so each year we're adding to the budget for that um and we don't have any extra funding so we're having to figure out how eventually how are we gonna how are we going to pay that um right now we had some more medical funding come in and we were able to not very much like 40,000 we're like oh we could move some of the due process fees over there it's like every year we're just kind of like figuring out as we go along with anytime an additional lawsuit additional due process additional legal fees um which it makes me nervous honestly when every time I work at the budget I sweat when I load it in and I know it's going to

041tell me oh wait your contribution short on special ed now I gotta go I gotta increase that but where am I G to get that from and for the longest time what have I done stuck things in onetime funds we had sther funds you know now we have a learning block grant so I'm like oh okay we were short this 100,000 I can move this over to the learning block grant but eventually that onetime funding is going to be gone so it is a very good question to ask because those costs are rising and they're not going in down anytime soon I think it's good that terara pointed out the medical funding though so historically we haven't had um any of our practitioners putting in for that um and now we are have billing for

042their time for different services that we get so we're starting to see some Revenue come in for that and so that's that's good and we're going to continue to do that we've just also had a lot of due process issues in the last few years which cost so much money okay thank you okay thank you Tara very much next item on information items is or excuse me we're on nine information items a is academic achievement report Mr ton yeah so it's attached and also I printed out paper copy if you want to take notes okay so um the first slide what I did is I did a comparison of our I ready scorers um from diagnostic one to diagnostic two so the first diagnostic is on the right side of the page that's the beginning

043of the year assessment and then the second one was after we returned from Winship break and and so the green are students who are performing on our above grade level the yellow is one grade level below and red is two or more and so you can see in between the two triangles for example on the bottom it says tier one and says 37% and then parentheses it says from 28 so the from 28 is the first diagnostic okay the first test 28% were on or above and then the second 37% okay and then for tier 2 34% 34% and then the red 38% to 29% okay so of course we want the green tier to go up sometimes tier two yellow goes up hopefully because the reds are moving into there right and then we'd

044like for the red percentage to also go down that means they're moving they're getting closer to becoming on grade level can you remind me tier two is one grade level below one grade below and then red is two or more two or more so the first slide gives you that information for reading and then the second slide is the same information for ma this does not include kindergarten students oh kindergarten students test at the end of the school year any questions about those two slides okay the next slide I took historical data on the task which is the state test that students in third through eth grade take and I took the data at the bottom you'll see that's the school year and I just um plotted students that met or exceeded standard so on

045the left is the percentage okay and so for each year there's two green bars the lighter green bar is language arts and the darker green bar is math and then you'll see a bunch of purple numbers floating out there that's the percentage for c for the state okay oh the okay got it I didn't were purple at first yeah so for example right so for 2014 2015 um the green bars are our students okay so uh for ELA slightly below 40% matter are exceeded the state percentage was 44 and then for math our students were I think that was about 36% and the state was 33 does that make sense wait a minute oh I got lost which one oh just the first one 33 was the state we were 36 that's oh back in

04615 but if you look at last year we were 36 and the state was 47 no St these are our numbers oh okay so we were under 30 state was 36 we were 26 and 323 and state 47 for yeah English for are you looking at the 23 looking at the last year because it looks like before Co the numbers were a lot higher yeah um okay I'll give you a lot higher just slightly higher I'm sorry they're still in the yeah I mean of course there's a lot of factors right but this gives us I mean this is what it is according to the the state house right but last year didn't our state yeah our state testing went down last year our numbers right for both English language well yeah you can compare

047the years right so like the 22 23 right so Ela was what call it2 well for the 22 23A was like 2 38a we're talking 22 23 yeaha 38 okay and then last year and then it was down to what 30 33 I didn't do the little tick marks so you know yeah it's closer to 30 right yeah is there any change in the type of curriculum being taught to math during that period I know not that I'm aware okay next slide I threw out some special education percentages and I compared our district to California so you can look historically starting at 1718 to last year so ours have increased we saw a little bit of a a decline like from 1819 to 1920 and again from 20 2021 to 2122 but last year and

048the year before were pretty high compared to the state compared to the state well and when you see the jump from 2122 to 22 23 I mean that's a 10% jump which is significant especially because all of a sudden now we went ahead of State the state data do do you have any idea why we might have had an increase in that year so I haven't done like obviously like real hard drill down um off the top of my head I can think of you know we've had some students move in to our district that you know we not off well I don't know if it's often like I don't have the exact data but like that would be interesting to look at right like of the new students over the course of these two

049years how many of those students came to us with an IEP how many um qualified for an initial right like I can really spend some time with the special ed Department drilling down on that um to kind of look at maybe what are like the top maybe two reasons why I know that a lot of kids are qualifying I know that we're getting a lot of um requests for assessments um more than usual I know that our struggles with academic achievement are making it difficult when are being assessed because sometimes it's hard to decipher if it's just because they're low academically or if they in fact have a disability and so that's been challenging with some in some situations um so I think that it would it would not be smart of me to say

050this is why right now because I haven't been able to drill down quite that closely um but certainly that's something that I think needs to happen we need to look at yeah especially when special ed is such a giant cost to our district so if we're in any way over identifying if there's kids that could be exited somehow and aren't you know that kind of a load for us financially just isn't really bearable so I think it is something that especially when you look at that I mean that's a giant leap right well there's a reason like this is starting to be included in my reports right obviously something we need to pay attention to right and also just so everybody knows these percentages include students who are on like a speech and language only

051IEP um I didn't separate those out so and you would hope that those students after receiving Services would be exed in most cases they do if it's a speech and language only in most cases um Michelle would you would you extract the cut out because I'd be curious there been a lot of studies that talk about how kids now are spending more time when they're little on screen and not getting as much verbal interaction with their adults so speech numbers are on the to see if maybe that's more on the rise and like yeah when you look at a quarter of our population needing some type of special ed Service that's yeah but you know once it's and I we have to provide the servic of course I'm not saying no I'm saying that's what's

052hard because each year it's gone up so much and then that's where the budget exactly and I think that's necessary they need the service but I'm saying we're not receiving the funding 100% right and so shining a light on what is it exactly that's creating this increase and you know kind of like you said drilling down on it just to just to know what we're what we're up against how many of these kids are speeching language how many you know is is there any way that some of this we could decrease these numbers not without you know not trying to keep kids out or not giving services but just to evaluate it since it's a giant we're um part of our mtss program we're trying really hard to do some like different early interventions and

053um really pay attention to you know can we can we offer interventions outside of a 504 or an IEP first right um can we have conversations with families that come in and say I want this assessment done to try and have conversations with them about okay like we understand we hear you but like can we maybe try this first right um those types of those types of things are starting to um be done as well I have a question about clarification um students that are on a 504 are they included in the special education percentage not in this not in this one I think by having our director SP education and student services and our educational program specialist that's really those positions are really important when you see this data yeah we um hopefully that

054will start to reduce some of our due process cost so um the last slide I um thought was also important to include which is our chronic absenteeism percentages over time and I also compared those to the state so um our district is blue and California is pink and so you can look across time and I would like to highlight that between the 22 and 23 school year and last school year we made decent Improvement significant Improvement we were in differentiated assistance for that which required a committee and a plan and an action and it looks like some of the things that we tried there worked I'd like I would like to say that that's why um or at least part of why and so um that's encouraging because of course that goes back to academic

055achievement right like if they're not here and it's kind of hard for them to to get them get the learning done so um I thought it was important to also include that and obviously the years that are blank there wasn't any data right I think the the hope would be that as the absente rate drops that our scores on things would rise in some proportion because if the kids are here then we're able to teach them and learning but ours this doesn't seem like pit like that our a is going down our test is going down well I had question sorry that seem so loud um also when we were doing our workshop and we were talking about like when we looked at um like honor what is it called honor honor rooll and the

056percentage of kids that were receiving honor rooll but then when we look at the percentage of kids that are at grade level or above grade level it seemed disproportionate and I was like you know is it I don't know what goes into that but it seemed like when you look at the honor roles like yay we're doing so great but then when you look at the test scores it didn't coordinate it didn't correlate yeah so there's there's work to be done in some of those areas right like aligning maybe report cards and Grading to to the standards and um you know don't freak out everybody not going to like push out a standards based report card next year right but you know there's there's things to look at there and and and it's just things

057to look at right like to have start having conversations around to start looking at maybe revamping parts of um different things that we do in our programs and um you know how kids are are receiving those grades and how the The Honorable system is they're all just things to to be paying attention to as it as it falls under the big umbrella of academic achievement so um of course there's a lot of things that fall under that and so there's a lot of things to look at right and then um examine and then come up with what are we going to do right yeah I mean I couldn't agree more and I think you know you really touched on a nerd when you said having a plan having an actionable plan like you did and

058are continuing to do with absenteeism because without a plan it's a little nebulous how we're going to get from A to B right and like it or not these test boards are how we're viewed you know within the community at large people looking at bringing their kids to this District if we have poor academics they might not want to bring their kids here and that you know continues to erode our enrollment so like it or not these are the measuring sticks that we are have to abide by and so you know personally what I would like to see I can't speak for the whole board but I would like to see some type of an academic plan districtwide to improve because we're going in the wrong direction and I know we have a very dedicated

059staff so that's not the issue but you know we have I think we have to hit this on multiple fronts but I don't think that doing nothing is going to help right we've kind of let things go and at some point we have to go we got to make a change here and so that's what I would like to see I mean and you can tell me whether this is realistic and how fast you could create something like this but I think you know and I'd like to hear from fellow board members about what you think about Michelle with the help of the staff with the help of you know your the supervisors here with the principles and out and leadership team yeah all everyone you know coming together and figuring out what we're going

060to do to try to improve the academics in our district I like the idea of a plan I don't know if you want more plans but I really like them you've got a lot of practice I mean this isn't like you know this isn't like oh next year you know oh we're all of a sudden going to be have these you know this right increase I'm talking about like a long term five year whatever you know like the years ahead that we're looking at our cul we're looking at our professional development we're shining a light on the things that aren't working and we're trying to fix them so that that we can move in a positive direction and I don't think that's too much to ask I think we owe it to our students we

061owe it to our families so that these kids are prepared to go to high school Beyond so yeah I mean like you just said like we owe it to our students we owe it to our families we kind of owe it to ourselves too right like it's hard right when it's just like we're all just scrambling and we don't really know what to do or how to help right so I think that there needs to be some something that kind of drives us right yeah I think any you know like just like teachers having their classroom you have a plan this is what I'm going to do today this is what I'm going to do tomorrow this is what I'm doing for a year this is how I'm going to get from from A to

062Z but if I don't know I haven't seen that since I've been sitting on the board that there's a districtwide plan for success I haven't seen it and I and I know that you know potentially you guys are I know you're trying I'm not you know again this isn't a personal thing it's not you're not doing a good job it's nothing like that it's just these numbers don't lie and and we need to fix that we just do and so how are we going to do that and what do we need to put in place we have I ready but we don't know you know what what's the success rate of that is I mean obviously it's not that successful what do we need to do within that what do we need to do to

063prep our kids to take this test what are our attitudes towards this test are we telling the kids H got to do State Testing are we negative because if we are they're not going to want to do it so so what there there's just so many factors here but we got to like pump this up and get things in moving in the right direction and I mean success bring success right that's how that works so how can we be more successful yeah yeah and I think yeah I think when we start seeing that right that's exciting like no everybody works so hard right they don't want to see this and it's just like but if we start seeing growth and success like that's exciting right we're going to want to keep doing that so and

064the kids will feel that too kids want to be successful they don't want to get these poor numbers either right you know that's not encouraging so how can we make them successful so that they can also be proud of what they do and again I I feel like we have a duty too taking these kids on to high school we want to send kids ready to tackle what's ahead of them in high school and Beyond so we're dropping the ball if we're not preparing them as best as we can so when do you let's let's someone else though sorry I'll jump off the Soap Box anyone else well you were in education I'm not so I don't know but I I can imagine how hard it must be for administration and teachers to see this

065and see that our kids have kind of gone down a little bit with all that you guys are doing and so I look at it as like an opportunity for us to help you like what can we do to help you Empower your kids to do what's right so maybe having a plan would get some cohesive guidelines or something together to where everybody could because I know you guys don't I mean you guys are doing great jobs and it's got to be I would be so sad because I see how hard you guys work and I go oh I'm sorry is a combination of things too with the attendant or behavior issues and it's just like how are they even able to learn if you have all these other things going on well and if

066you have kids that are two or more grade levels behind and they're going to the next grade yeah how are you going to get them you know I don't know how that works I'm just sitting here as a elected member but I agree I like an idea of having like a three to five year plan if we could and start you know working towards that collaborating Michelle there is a committee to address absenteeism differentiated assistance through the county yeah are we still on that uh now we're on differentiated assistance for something else for this year suspension rate oh we're suspending too much too much not enough that's a really tough question to answer yeah um our suspension rate is high and so the state wants us to look at ways that maybe we can reduce

067that with maybe implementing different strategies for um consequences that could affect these scores too right aren here yeah so we have to look how that's affecting the whole class we have how of control kids in the class everyone suffers I know physically emotionally I know you know we are all very aware of that and we are trying to do lots of things with that and there are meetings scheduled to address that and the principles are working very hard uh doing what we need to do to lessen that problem that is a very big and real problem right now understand Mr McDonald has a plan did you want to share a little bit or maybe another meeting I wouldn't necessarily say it's his plan there's a behavior we've been looking at lots of Staff members have

068been looking at um Behavior trackers Behavior flow charts and different things um tools to give to teachers and principes to streamline um how discipline is handled um depending on the offense if you will and um a clearer picture for everybody involved on what might be the consequence um depending on where they where they are on that on that flowchart or on that tracker if you will so um there's been a lot of work done by um Mr Garrick McDonald along with his colleagues and along with the principles and myself we have looked at three other districts and what they do and try to get information from them and um I think that we have found a tool that is going to be really helpful um but we also want to make sure that everybody's on

069board and that we like it and we're not just throwing it out there before it's um pretty fine tuned um so um we're we're close good that's not going to solve all the problems but it's certainly a step in the right direction yes so when thinking about this creating a plan what would be a realistic timeline for not implementation but just a draft of something that you could bring to the board for us to look out okay well I have some notes here right so you want to include curriculum professional development um I have academic plan so I'm assuming some goals right maybe by year one kind of like what the elap does right a timeline um three to five years yeah I think that's realistic I think you know again this is this is

070a problem that's years in the making it's not going to get fixed tomorrow but I think if we we're looking long-term create some short-term goals but with a longterm goal as well and then what are the steps that we're going to take to get to the short-term goal and ultimately I think I mean there's going to have to be like Staffing involved there's going to have to be budget involved right so depends on how drafty it can be how rough drafty it can be I think that we can have a template and some some good ideas and some good information on there with the help of lots of people out there teachers wor St principles May yeah May is that fair because we could be looking at it and then you can be maybe starting

071I don't think this board is asking you to fix this problem now give us a plan now you know but but we've got to start taking steps right so the first step is to create some type of a plan with the help of the professionals that we have in our district to say you guys know what the issues are how are we going to fix them right and and I think that that we can do it together we can do it we can do it right so yeah so if you could come to to us in May that gives you a couple months to start these convers ations figure out some of the solutions shortterm long term and then bring that back to us and then we can talk about it okay so I guess

072it's time for me to get on my project but before I tell you what what it is I uh want to back up with a little bit of story so my neighbor about 20 years ago played golf he done it for like 30 years and his score was as good as he I'm going to tell you would bear with me and he um he uh challenged me will come golfing with him I don't golf at all and uh and I was 115 and I decided Well I'll take some golf lessons so I I went to a pro took three or four golf lessons and I was consistently scoring the same his gym after 30 years of golfing and doing a little bit better and he got really upset with it and I finally we finally

073had to come to grips with the idea that uh Jim didn't have 30 years of golf experience he had one year of golf experience that he duplicated for 30 years and and I went bypassed all of that by going to an expert who came in and taught me this is what you do and here's where I'm going with that so when we were down at uh aec I went to one of the little seminars that had very de people in it I don't know why but they were addressing this very problem and there was three or four schools that were doing exceptionally well and they had revamped their programs and uh um they actually offered to uh to help Mentor anyone that was interested to to come learn what they were doing so we could

074duplicate it and I've always thought you know the best way to do better is find someone who is doing better and just copy them you don't have to just uh you know beat yourself in the head for 30 years saying I know I can do it I know I can do it you know it's if you find someone that is doing it just C it's really easy and so I'm going to make contact with a couple of these guys and see if with your permission if if this group of people here is open to new ideas you know maybe we're not I don't know I think to but I think everybody is open to to Fresh ideas yeah I I would like to to do that but I don't want to fight against City Hall

075at the same time but you know we're going to do what're Incorporated we have no City Hall yeah I know but you know what I mean I I don't see anything wrong with that why not make contact and you have yeah bring those ideas I don't think there's anyone that would say no don't bring a good idea I'm not saying anyone's bad but I'm just saying sometimes they get better you need to talk to someone that's doing better that's what I'm saying I'm in agreement and if you went to this workshop and you made contact with people why not follow through with that and already but I wanted to get through the Christmas thing and all of the holiday business but that's that was my the thing I really wanted to bring into this for

076my part of bringing into this um district is my trustee ship this is the year [Music] that's why we all went to the uh the annual conference all of us and I have also talked about the everyday counts campaign that stanlos County was extremely successful at raising their Ada um I do have paperwork and I want to drop that off tomorrow I you want copies of all that should awesome pretty you know this present it for the kids you know no thank you I don't want anyon in my there you go oh foam thought said fo thank you okay good comments everyone uh all right we're moving on to uh item 9B enrollment and AD report so there's not much of a change from last month uh same so a little bit of change to

077site site but we had 803 and we're at 803 couple more uh students in Bliss looks like oci was up one o is up one I'm assum is that one so I don't know why oh because then the Pres that's why so that's where that went those three I think we've got some new kids from the apartments yes that's what I heard but I hadn't seen that in oh I'm shocked I swear we've had more kids but I mean well I did this I did this on the 5th so maybe they came in after that because I had to get it in the agenda oh yeah no they definitely have yeah yeah so maybe we'll see I know I was like I feel like more yeah I always do it um you know before the

078package yeah it could have changed then you'll see next month [Applause] in District transfer reports okay so since the last meeting two we have transferred two students out for the district one to unified and one to Marosa County I feel like I need to check on that but there might be zero to Mar I'm not sure I might be a little confused regardless it says to okay okay thank you uh 9d is first reading of proposed board policy and administrative regulations I had some [Music] questions of I emailed to you and um Michelle um it's about uh regulation 351 15.5 it's the regulation is that six ofender notification yes the red right which one are you on the regulation yes 351 351 15.5 yes so this is uh new for us this is not um

079re-upping or anything like that so I just have a couple of questions I want to know if um we would be having a liaison for the district or if you're going to be the Point person for that Michelle and then um this regulation talks about receiving information from law enforcement and it doesn't talk about if we if the district gets the information from say a program that we're already using such as verata does number eight um is that the procedure that will be used should information um come to the district not from law enforcement say that part again sorry so the the regulation talks about um law enforcement will be the ones that bring information to the district and then the district will disseminate accordingly appropriately not excessively all of that um we have a

080program in our district that we are currently using called Bata that does flag um people that should have been scan their ID and something that law enforcement should have notified us that these people are in our district and I'm saying if the law enforcement has not come and notified us and they come onto our campus and they scan in and it is brought to the office's ATT ition that they are um not allowed to be there then is it still the procedure or would it be the procedure to follow number eight which is inform local law enforcement or will we make our own procedures in um utilizing the program that we already have in place so the way I read this new reg if we decide that we want to implement this would be that

081the liaison would work with the sheriff department to receive an updated list if you will right and because they're required to sign up right so that would mean okay we have this update list and there's certain individuals that are aware of this list and so if those people are near around the school grounds then we would contact the sheriff I'm assum ass in reading that that one scenario assuming they're just around and they haven't like checked in right to the office because that's like a separate thing right yeah so if we decided to do this then that would be the the procedure okay right that the protocol they're not curently doing that with the sheriffs right right because this is a new thing yeah right then we would have that correct I just want to

082know that this is we're not just going to adopt a regulation and then it's just going to sit in our you know file that we're actually going to have like an action plan and we're going to have procedures for the people that come in contact with yeah this is a pretty detailed thing right and so like there's there's going to have to be another plan another flowchart another who's responsible right and we don't have campus security officers right right so we're not going to have like people out on watch however we have a lot of people that are out and about and are very aware of the surroundings our surroundings and if they see somebody near on campus that you know doesn't belong they're likely going to just get an administrator and ask them to

083leave we're not going to carry around a clipboard of like Mug Shots right of people right I don't know maybe Heather will right so like if we do this then there's gon to have to be like work to be done on this like what are we going to do about that and we'll do that but yeah got thanks that's all I just want to tie it up yeah that was the only question I have any other questions on these policies just so you guys know it's probably worth saying as you are contemplating whether or not we want to implement this we do have Bata and we do have visitors and parents come in and when they swipe their if something comes up we have a procedure for that right the administrators know what that is

084and um that has come up and that has been handled in that way and so you know we do have that Safeguard in for for those types of people that are coming onto our campuses what does the the verata was called rot how does that get the information I get from the they driver's license so are you saying that this we already have a policy in place that's addressing that or you're just saying we proceed I'm just saying that we have a procedure and safety protocols in place that are allowing us to be notified if somebody has something on their record that prohibits them from being around children um this is different right this is like for people maybe that like aren't coming to check in that people that we we get a list and

085we kind of know who they are and where they live and we're like made aware of them because you know like honestly like not every person that comes to watch like a sports game always checks in right like we do our best but we don't like I said we don't have a bunch of campus safety officers and people around like just watching for that right and so um this would maybe apply to like those types of situations I I like having it for those reasons and then we have to call back on right where do these come from these board policies just out of curiosity like csba yeah we have a whole program that pushes them out to us when there's new updates okay and then that's why always on the agenda the thing about

086it is it's usually so every every every other month is every two months we pull we go into the system and we pull up the new ones and we look at them and they're either new policies new regulations or they have um additions or um things that have been edits okay thank you and it's all aligned with um Edge code and law law so it keeps us up to date as well then making sure we're following the law proper and that way we're protected from liability yeah and some of it were're obligated to adopt and some of it were not right so some of it's applicable applicable and some of it's not so okay any other questions okay item 9 e the local control accountability plan midyear monitoring report for the 2024 2025 lcap and

087budget overview for parents my favorite the so um every year I have to do a midyear um report on goals and actions for our lcap and so you'll you'll see that on here it's um the information that I had to add in here is um it'll say it says right there mid year outcome and it's kind of highlighted in like an orange color and and then terara goes in and puts in like the expenditures to date based on the um budget allocations that we've tied to the goals and actions and so um that's the report and I think you had a question Denise um actually I looked at it we've already talked about it so I'm good cool some of it you'll see right like um for example me see if I can find an

088example um page five So like um let's see 1.10 1.11 that has to do with the educational Partners survey that hasn't gone out yet and so like there's no dat on that yet so I just I just put that in there hasn't been completed yet but um for the stuff that I had data on it's in there and then of course whatever is in in here has to be in there for um the end of the year l cap review so that survey data and some of that other stuff that's missing um will be there in [Music] June thank you for and that's just you don't have to take this is just um the uh what we have to do is it just has to be presented to the board and and in a in

089a regular public meeting so that um people know that we're monitoring it and the last page is the budget overview for parents which is what you see at the cover of our regular LC cap so now this year that's new that they want that um we always put the numbers in but then um and it just they just want you to have a metric to compare the uh lcff funds it's on page 39 and the supplemental concentration to when you adopted the lcap in the budget and what you're at now but you can see there uh you know 20,000 difference in lcff and then um same thing with a supplemental concentration so there's really not a big change but they added that page the budget Overview at the end yes always it's I know it's

090a lot of work to put these things together so yeah you're welcome it's actually um it's good as much as I joke about how much work it you know it's a lot of work but it's good to look through here and be monitoring and reflecting and paying attention to to the plan so okay item 10 accomplishments and other reasons to celebrate from throughout the district and we have our Fus Elementary School [Music] principal cute thank you was hoping it wasn't it's not professional but it's fun right we yes it does doesn't it totally so we um have a lot of awesome things happening at o and some of them it's it's kind of um timely because it addresses some of the concerns that you were bringing up they're also concerns for for all of us

091um and so one of the things that we are working on is changing our mindset around I ready because we have had we meaning like the teachers and the students were like oh my gosh the diagnostic is really hard it's very stressful and so our attitude around it hasn't been really positive and so we're working on changing that like our staff and our students and um the on our second diagnostic scores we actually have seen a fair amount of growth especially in the classrooms that really embraced having data talks with their their students and so this second diagnostic that we took there were a there were a fair amount of things that were different um previously we had taken the second diagnostic but in December and that's always a crazy time kids are doing you

092know Christmas projects and we're getting ready for performances and kids are done they're like they're ready to be on vacation and so this year we took it when we came back from the break and so there was always the fear like the kids are going to lose you know some of of what they've learned and but really I feel personally like some of the teachers we've talked to the kids were like they came back refreshed and they were ready to go and when you're coming back from a break you're introducing your classroom procedures and everything back to your kiddos and reminding them how to behave and you're not doing this huge academic focus and so I told the teachers I said let's have our academic Focus be I ready and so I said for math

093and language arts like that's the those are the academics you're doing you're not doing the Wonders reading program you're like your focus is remember this is how we do these things and it was it was good the kids wen't like rushing to get through it the teachers built in brain breaks in between like the testing and so it was it was pretty successful that way so and then we've talked as a team about getting that IE ready like the mindset around the Diagnostics and moving that towards the state testing and that because that was kind of how we approached it was as if it was you know our state testing Meek and so we're having some good conversations around that so um we had also a number of kids after the data talks and looking

094at like what they needed to improve on they were taking the diagnostic and they were like I need you to reset the diagnostic I know what I did wrong and I want to redo it and so like the power of the retake was pretty big this time around so I'm encouraging those teachers to kind of share those stories with their colleagues and kind of promoting that in the classrooms so just a little bit about I ready on there we had teachers that were also trying to incentivize their students and so they offered um parties celebrations for growth on their Diagnostics they were do um they did parties for like completing successfully completing certain amounts of I ready lessons and so this was one of the parties this is a Mrs Rob show she's our a

095new teacher for us this year and she is amazing and just like she puts her heart and soul into everything she had the little Starbucks poster she like projected that and Drew it herself she went and got like all these things but all they're learning for the day was like coffee or you know Barista themed so it was really fun so anyway that that um we are also rewarding instead of it used to be at OES that we like focused on academic excellence and yes academic Excellence is really important but academic effort and growth is more important because you're encouraging those kids that maybe they aren't going to be capable of getting straight AIDS but they are working their moodies off and they've done really well so um we have changed that also and so

096we had our first semester movie PJ movie Extravaganza for um third through fifth grade and one of the caveats to attend that was they had to make grow on their I Diagnostics so um that was a cool little time we had 170 stud to participate and we showed Garfield the movie so it was fun and we've also been encouraging reading on campus and so this year our um third four and fifth graders participated in battle of the books and our um third fourth grade team came in second overall in the county and so um you can see them with some of their Awards and then up here it's the fifth graders they are participating and concentrating really hard and I think that was is it super quiz I think they had to flip the remember

097what the comp was yeah it they loved it though and and we're all we're hyped up to do it again next year so that was you this getting us encouraging us to do it we have some other good learning happening in the classroom the first graders were learning phases of the moon with Oreo cookies so that was really fun they had a blast that just shoot I'm I think it was last week it's all kind of blur um we had nature of wild Works come and do a third grade field trick of field trip an on campus field trip I don't know if you guys have heard of this um organization they're based out of um course fold on Road 416 but they are amazing she used to work at a zoo she opened up

098a rescue and moved it to cor and she brought in great Fox skunks um ferrets snakes she taught she has all these lessons that are like based on brain levels so I encourage wasuma and oci to to check it out um and she's just fantastic yeah so it was a great no one got sprayed this no one got sprayed no we were good we were the secret I think that the skunk had it was fixed it was yes it had it had been fixed so uh fourth grade they their Native American studies and made some really beautiful diaramas and so um those are some pictures of of the diaramas of course we had our 100th day of school on February 3rd we launched the morning with a parade project and it used to be just

099like I think K2 that did it and this year everybody got into it fourth and fifth grade and the whole school took a tour and so it was a blast they did little projects in class snack sortings cup stacking and a bajillion other things PE activities so they had a lot of fun it was a great day um we have in the district Mrs Dent is doing electives at oci and wasuma and so at oci they have created the super Eagles performing troop and they have come over and done some presentations and so here they came and did the um di like talked about the sore Behavior expectations and differental strategies so this was one of their first presentations the kids loved it um Mrs Dent is working on another one where they're going to

100present some calming strategies and just helping to kind of regulate our kids because the learning in the academics aren't happening if their behavior is wild and they're like their bodies and brains aren't ready to learn and so we really need to teach them how to be ready to learn before we can actually focus on the learning so that's a big part of it too so um there will be more of those to come uh we are starting the kids heart challenge Jordan R our district nurse she launched it at wasuma already was it this week or last week and so we're launching ours on February 26th so that's exciting and I already talked about the super Eagles uh coming to do another umcl assembly Dr Seuss starts in March cross country season is starting um

101it's always exciting but OES is working we're going to work hard it's always been third through fifth grade and we're it's the only sport that all age levels can do so we're going to work hard and open it up to TK 35 so yeah so I'm excited about that um there was something else I wanted to say about academics and just talking about that we're aware that you know we feel the same way we want everyone be successful um personally I I'm speaking for OES because all the sites were at different points but our behavior is is a thing kids are different these days like than they used to be and we have been like really really focused on academics here at OES like I'm actually having to like deprogram some of the teachers a

102little bit and getting them to be like our kids aren't learning if they're not regulated because they aren't they're coming in like just they've been on screens and their brains are going crazy and so our big Focus before we can like male academics are teaching these kids how to like control themselves and be ready to be Learners so that's one of our big purposes curriculum adoption is another one but I did like these are Big deals and I've been talking a lot with our site Council about it and um we're trying to address it in the sipa so like I am aware and we were working on it we also talked about attendance and we came up with some good ideas so yeah so yeah I'm excited thank [Applause] you and we have now superintendent

103I don't have anything for tonight okay all right so board comments yeah I just had um one thing um I just wondered if we had scheduled a another Workshop date were we doing that every month are we not doing that every month I don't think every month okay but so TVD okay but we can I mean we can schedule one now or we can just do that yeah I we prob in March talking about um I just one thing I maybe when you're like think well this is probably off the topic but I also think like our principles and you the administrators have so much on your plate and we are in a small District like we don't have all the other people that big districts have and I get some people get upset because

104the you know admin team is f but you guys have so much on your plate um I would like to see you know like I love that you guys go and cover classroom and do stuff like that but I would love to see that not have to happen and I don't know what that looks like if you have like a sub when you're not like you're in mediation all day for these things that happen and then your regular job's not getting done and and I so I just want to you know think about that when we're building the budget like I don't know how I know we can't afford extra people but can we afford having some subtime for admin when you guys I'm I just was thinking about that as we were talking and

105I just think that you guys get pulled so many directions that it's also very hard for you or it could be potentially hard for you to also do all these other things you know when you're having to go and and I get some of that's your job but then some of that is because we're in a small school and we don't have assistant principles and we don't have assistant you know so I'm just wondering if there's some way we can incorporate something like that to where you guys can have some additional help because I feel like you guys get pulled a lot from your jobs and you really need to focus on your jobs you know anyway that's my two sents and I could be wrong but that's what I want to say thank you

106Steve I don't have much this is mostly for the guys in here Valentine is Friday um I I just wanted to say I appreciate your comments cat and I know when we're talking about academic I think that yeah behavior is at the core of that so I hope that my comments didn't seem like I wasn't thinking that that's a piece of it I know there's a lot of pieces and I hope that didn't get lost in translation that I'm not saying we got to just focus on academics all the time but we're just looking at all the pieces and figuring out how to create a more successful District within with all those pieces as part of it so so but I do appreciate you saying that and I appreciate all the things that you guys

107are doing you know that like you said it's very timely that you have those slides about you know having those conversations telling kids this is what what we here's how you're doing when you involve kids in those conversations they want to do better they don't know how they're doing how are they supposed to try and improve so I appreciate everything that you're doing so keep it up um and then I just wanted to say that I'm going to talks with Talon um so we were awesome with today and I'm going tomorrow and Friday so anybody have anything to bring up to us um us I'm just Yeah tomorrow's yeah I'm just try and go to but I forgot what the time was 11 11 to1 okay tomorrow oci and then Friday here Friday yeah and

108one other thing is um the garden so I I have to look at you because you're the garden person um but anyway I went and did the garden it's indoors because you know we're not really gardening but we were teaching so much for it was fun I'm telling you if you can go to the Garden that it's a great game growing well they're not growing anything because it's winter but Cas we were learning about photosynthesis that's great even the little ones they were thinking save word I had great Behavior I mean I saw really really really good behavior within all of that and a little girl complimented me on my [Laughter] hair your wife come and and she all about that and I don't know what she's saying because she starts waving her hands and

109talking she said she likes it so anyway lots of fun so thank you I was just thinking tonight uh about inspiring students um and it brought to mind when Mr Peterson's class that my youngest daughter was in and he has signed the book Gifted Hands about the life of Dr Ben Carson if you guys haven't read the book or seen the movie is absolutely incredible um where it was you know his mother was I think a third grade third grade education and single mom and how he he was a failing student and I think when he was in third grade or so he developed a love for just rocks and that sparked his desire to learn I mean it just like boom it was like an explosion of desire in his life anyway um it's

110just inspiring story they're true stories I know a lot of kids are reading you know fantasy things and not nothing that's wrong with that but something that they can identify with that this can happen in my life you know and he became of course the um pediatric brain surgeon that separated can join twins so you know it's just incredible so I would just love to see more of that kind of real life inspiration Gifted Hands So anyway thank you everyone and anything else so future agenda items this is our next thing there anything to put on the agenda an academic plan so much time we'll put it on the agenda put it on the agenda next time I won't forget okay and our next meeting date I believe is March 12th sound great Julie and

111Rhonda please stay to sign your certificates lot of sign need signatures meeting is9 have a great
