004few I just wanted to I'm always going to thank the the teachers and staff that are willing to do extra duties so um going to thank you for that and I'm also thankful to see Scarlet taking that special ed director position it's really important for the district and I'm happy that she's doing that and also thanking our Community Partners for your donations for that upcoming dinner any other comments roll call vote i i i i i item six um monthly items and financial reports um approval of the Warr there a motion I move approval second discussion that's a lot of Chromebooks I noticed we B 850 of all at once no idea that's where do they go they have a room for that my room that's why understanding some of those have already been they're
005already in the hands of kids yeah all the P third cartoon Plass have already been placed and then the other kids will turn them at the end of the year and I will give them work days next year starting next year new Chrome books so the donated Chromebooks to Cadet Corp were those the ones that you've already distributed those are to refresh go trash or yeah cool okay any other questions roll call vote i i i i ition appearance um item seven hearing persons wishing to address the [Music] board to me okay no no slips in that they emailed none um moving on to action item uh number eight a approve the proposed of the D County School Board Association 2425 budget I move we approve the proposed Madera County School Board Association 2425 budget
006Denise could you use your microphone please I Mo approval of the proposed mad County School Board Association 2425 I second any discussion no I was present and I all for okay Ro well let me just ask about the the awards so do we have an understanding what those are used for what do you mean a award the award increase was increased from 500 to 1,000 so they give the scholarship Awards to the kids so they're increasing the amount that they can give to them and and so we discussed at the time were we going to give more Awards or bigger Awards and so then they had I don't I didn't keep my notes but I believe that we split the money equally between the um I think there was four or five that submitted applications
007that were complete and and met criteria so yeah just wonder what the example of the scholarship Awards do they normally give they give them to the kids they the kid the kids write in and ask for it and then we give it to them not if you think about the community awards at Ys each School in Mad each High School in Madera County would have one recipient so the discussion as I understand Rhonda was do we increase the number of wards across the county or do we just increase the amount but will be for high school graduates school okay great and they are recommended by those that High School staff correct well the students apply for them and then um yeah there could be recommendations that come in in form of letter they have to
008get letter it's part of the package is they have to get a letter of recommendation but I don't think they have to be recommended to apply I think they can just apply but then they have to get letters of recommendation from staff um and and there are certain criteria and some kids don't read read it and do it correctly so they didn't meet the protocol um but they try to be lenient on it and read it and you know some kids actually um follow it to to tea and and then some kids are a little bit more Loosely but as long as the kids submitted it in the appropriate format and they got the letters of recommendation and they had the other supporting factors that they wanted they granted it so they're giving it to
009Glacier and yhs and um also Chan Kei and so it's like like five is it five to five high schools no it would be every high school every High School in the our area in our area would be all the mountain District that meeting too and then if I recall they had like eight scholarships to give out but only five were qualified and of course I wanted to know well what are you going to do with the three leftovers and well we roll them over basically and then and then the other question was well how come it's just $100 you that's not much money for anything and uh you know so they increased it a little bit okay thank you we'll see it's not yeah it covers maybe a book for college it's not a
010huge scholarship it's more of a recognition for the kids okay thank you any other comments roll call vote i i i i i Item B 8B approve the 24 25 summer pool contract with M sir I move approval thank you Rhonda is there a second I'll second thank you Denise is there any discussion I still have a question about the the amount because I know that we have funding that helps us with my club in general does that transfer over for the pool as well yes it perfect that that will be the the account from which the money was pulled okay and why is the will separate a separate contract than the other things that we contract with my club for you can you hear me closer um they' just always done it separate because
011it's like separate programming and um there's separate expenses involved with the pool um of course more Staffing they have to have lifeguard Staffing and then there's facilities for using the pool to pull that out yeah I think it's it's easier for my club to do it that way because obviously they have contracts with other districts in eer County to where bath Blake and you C unified would be sharing the expense of the pool for the summertime to where the other districts would not be so it's it's easier for them otherwise they risk wait a minute these districts are paying this much more why why not that makes sense so uh it's easier to pull and I I think it allows you unified to have a more accurate picture of what the pool expense will be
012for the summer by waiting as long as I can and I had just asked um some general questions I talked toich town and she's very helpful with the answers and one of them uh I was curious how the summer program is run and she said that for the pool there's two pool managers yes yeah so I wanted to know about that and um I was I'm going to go ahead and prove it but I just wanted to yeah ask questions yeah and so I was just uh curious about the volunteers for the sports programs I saw on the website there's a picture of the kids posing uh at a skate park and there's a number of men there were about 10 men in the picture so I just wanted to know about um screening process
013if they were volunteers and yeah so Dian had um called me this morning and I that was one of the questions just um how many of the workers are volunteering than how many are like employees right and so I didn't know the answer so I reached out to Jen Simmons and she said that the only volunteers are for the sports programs their coaches are volunteers but that they do do background checks and fingerprinting on them just like they do for their employees as well yeah and I had had another question being at at the pool um concerning the the locker rooms and what kind of privacy um what steps are Tak to um protect the child's privacy when changing the Locking locking yeah so I again reached out and um they have a their practice
014is that it takes a while but what they do is they let one child go in at a time a lot of times the students will like have their bathing suit on under their clothes and so they don't always have to change before they get into the pool but they just have one student going at a time unless they're siblings um and of course you know feel comfortable same ex going into the girls locker room the boys locker room um so they allow that but um yeah they just do one at a time to um ensure safety and privacy okay thank you for answering that question that was just a general question about okay um and then I'll bring it up later but the my clubs in general the policy for the the restrooms so
015you had mentioned that um Dan I'm sorry I can't hear you oh I was just talking about the um a general question I had about the my clubs that I was interested in about the use of the restrooms the privacy issues for the children yeah she was asking about the Privacy not only with the locker room for the summer pool program but also just in general at the after school programming and um Jen said they actually um are doing that policy as well um where they're monitoring kids are going in one at a time obviously the best they can right um so they keep an eye on that and then I think you had one other question about if a parent or Guardian were interested in the program would they be allow to go and
016observe yeah or any parent can just drop any time and so she said of course they would yes they could but they would need to make those arrangements so that they could let the teachers know and the staff know and um you know they know who's coming who to expect just kind of like the same procedures that we do in the school yeah just answer some questions question because there's people I know who have children in school and they don't know about programs okay yeah okay thank you so much you're welcome any other questions or discussion one call vote please um I'll say hi hi hi hi hi okay um next item see the approval of the annual Declaration of me for 425 I'll make a motion that we approve the annual Declaration of need
017[Music] 2425 is there a second I'll second thank you any discussion we got a second yes we did okay um so that's this is just a contingency for case we're short some people no this this is an annual requirement districts across the state have to submit this form to the teacher credentialing office in [Music] Sacramento we look at our past our history need as we enter the next school Year Michelle and I looked at this document and um you see the numbers in front of you what we anticipate we may need um what happens is and we've done this the last several years is we have a vacancy and we wind up hiring somebody who is either either inter eligible or needs to apply for a pip or a sip which is an emergency authorization
018if we don't have this document on file of CTC we cannot move forward with hiring somebody who is not fully credential so this more of a a safety blanket for us that once we have this in place we're not bound to have these this number of vacancies it's just we anticipate we could and so we're able to move forward more expeditiously look like maybe three Al together uh possibly could be could be more than that but really we're looking at individuals who maybe are not fully credential that we would need to hire in the in the event that we don't have a fully qualified candidate there wer any for the single subject correct we don't anticipate we don't that we have folks in those positions but we don't anticipate any other okay that means none
019of you guys will quit or leave or anything okay great any other questions roll call vote hi hi I I I um eight d uh approve the resolution 2412 ordering the reduction of hours of certain classified step there a motion I'll I'll make a motion I'll second any discussion I just wanted a little tiny clarification it it looks to me like there's three people that are getting their salaries or hours reduced by 25% am I reading it right yes okay and these are the um we already discussed this in the previous yeah board meetings and this is just saying that like that we moved forward with the with the layoff or the notice for the reduction of hours with those employees that we notified them we gave them okay you know the what they could
020do if they wanted to have a hearing to discuss it and so it's just saying that like it's been done okay no classified employee request the hearing no that's correct no one's contesting anything yeah no that deadline so they got all that information when they got the notice with the deadlines of well with information on how to do that if they wanted to and then the deadlines and so that all passed there was nobody came to the district office and requested that okay any other discussion roll call vote um I I I I I Mission carries action item8 e no all right I move approval of the final resolution 2413 ordering the dismiss certificated staff due to layoff is there a second I'll second any discussion hearing no discussion roll call vote hi hi hi
021hi I cares next item is 8f consideration and Adoption of board policy administrative regulations board policies and exhibit revisions I make a motion we approve the we adopt the policies administrative regulations and board bylaws and exhibit revisions I'll second any discussion yeah I I I'm not going it's not a big discussion I just we like the AR 3550 specified no fried food no deep fried food no pan fried food no fried food anywhere in the C that was amazing may remember when I was on the road to Georgia going to certain little cafes here and there and everything de fried you know we don't have any of that so that's all right any other comments think the one about cannabis that's P policy 4111 something about the uh you can't discriminate in hiring an employee
022if they use cannabis off you know outside of work hours so how do you know when they're here if they're you know Lucid that's the thing well we have policies in place that if we have a reable suspicion that's somebody's Under the Influence then we would take appr action with that yeah happens with alcohol too yes it does and those are all legal right for people over the age of 21 cons not at work but right any other comments there there was a lot of information in here employee safety board policy 4157 which one was that 4151 there a narrative on each one of these that I believe Mr seals provides the narrative right yes thank you sir okay so underneath and I'm going to look in the lower part work related Ines and are
023you on the um policy or will I look first at the very bottom Mr Sals puts together all the updates on it and then the policies are all listed above it so I just wonder if anybody had any concerns about the employee safety right so there's an employee safety policy and there's an employee safety regulation yes so for1 57 I'm trying to find that these AR all in order well and what I mentioned to the board a couple of months ago is that a new requirement um as a result of s SP 553 which was passed last year requires that all districts establish Implement maintain in all work areas a workplace violence prevention plan that is due U by July of this year and we are currently working on that and what I what I
024said a couple of months ago is that we will be working on that you will see it come to you before we before we get to July now does that have to do with adults versus adults or yes and yes and all of the okay yeah okay yeah this is this is calosa involved so we're talking specifically about oury employes employees in all situations another one board policy 6115 and it's ceremonies and observances I'm sorry Bo po so many Bo policy 614 1.2 the recognition of religious beliefs and customs and I see under that one just pull that one up really quick 614 1.2 which one are we on 61 41.2 the recognition of religious beliefs and customs and I had seen that uh there last year the Supreme Court had given um a lot
025of freedom for those who have religious beliefs that weren't prior that weren't available uh before that for prayer and for other uh religious freedoms and so I wish I printed out the piece of paper was from the um okay I should have printed out but anyway my understanding from the Supreme Court ruling is that uh a teacher or anybody in the school can pray as long as it doesn't disrupt anybody else during the work day course before they couldn't do that they can do it on during their office time um also that teachers who are religious can put for example if they're a Christian they can put a Bible on their desk they can display the Ten Commandments or uh something like in God we trust anything that relates to uh our founding of our
026nation's judeo-christian values that they can are allowed to do that um with having a Bible on your desk they just cannot um they cannot proze but if a child comes to them and has questions that they're allowed to engage so this was some recent law that most people to my understanding aren't aware of so there's a lot of freedom in that and I think that's very positive and and is that reflected in the policy 61 41.2 is there a paragraph you there is the guidance from the CDE and that's the 6142 are we specifically talking about Bible or all religious documents the changes that you'll see in the policy and the regulation um has been written by attorneys for csba so what you see proposed is already in compliance with the law and with that
027ruling uh that ruling still has a lot of specifics to it that is not a blanket statement we're blanket authority to do these things it really depends on the situation and that's one of the things that the court emphasized in their rulle and in their in their statements um so it was important to really go back and look at what the policy and regulation language was and the changes uh to to those because that is compliant with the ruling that was passed by the Supreme Court um certainly there will be future cases where folks will try to take it farther or take it less um and it will trigger litigation so this is something that's going to continue we're going to continue to see evolve over time okay I'm not familiar with the ruling so
028I feel I'm in the Dark Ages here but is it specifically bable or all this was this was a decision handed down in Kennedy uh V bton where the school employee was a high school football coach all right and he would uh he did not coers his students to pray when the employee nail the Midfield after games to offer Qui personal prayer and I'm reading directly from what was sent by CS ba that's included underneath when you look at the additional background information your statement they're well I'm getting I'm getting way too much credit these are statements that come directly from csba when they send the revisions out okay so I'm copying and pasting so with regard to prayer at Midfield and postgame after after a football game um it was determined that he did
029not for students to pray with him and so that in and of itself was okay in in in light of the law to where he had been previously been disciplined for for those actions um so the question is going to become in future is what else is going to be deemed appropriate and what else is going to be deemed um inappropriate to where prior to this decision um it was assumed that all things were in when it came and in this decision is saying that that's not the case that as long as the employee is not the employee is not um encouraging students or coercing students in prayer then his actions in this case were okay I yeah but we were just saying something about having a Bible on your desk so that's not that's
030not what we're talking about here no okay we're only voting on this yeah what we're talking about is the language that's in the proposed revisions you have any others you want to bring up yeah we're not employee AR to promote or hinder more of an non involvement so that they're not P proing but they still have the freedom yeah to engage in in prayer religious activities so so it's a positive ruling from the Supreme Court constitutionally protected prayer so but I just love yeah I love that csba have the lawyers that incorporate the new laws and give us and keep us compliant with the law and we have um that way we're protected and our employees are protected and we all in complaints and say the children are safe absolutely the very last sentence of
031this actually uh came up down in the clus U school board you know because um if I recall they had a uh they have a a number of after school clubs and one of them um there a couple Christians and there's other other different clubs of different things and and someone decided that well the Christians have a club and we should have a a Satan club and U and they they were in a position where they couldn't deny that without denying all the rest and that's what that very last sentence is in there for and so they they shut down a whole bunch of programs you know that the kids were going to I have my own opinions on all but you know they should have just let him go because no one would have
032showed up anyway yeah well thank you I will no more questions any other comments roll call vote hi hi hi hi motion carries item nine information items 9 a is enrollment and attendance for S reports I love to this one so you can see there's been little change in terms of enrollment and then also the attendance summary is there for you um our main campus is still hovering over 90 well below would be 92.3% so if that's below you look at high up to 93 78 in terms of overall attendance or average daily attendance as always I want to caution that that doesn't necessarily mean our chronic absente rate will be coming down but it it does show that our average daily attendance is is holding pretty strong we would like to see that at
03395 or higher but having come through the winter season with cold and flu um Still Still well over 90% so that's a good sign and a good Trend hopefully we can beef that up in the last couple of months this SCH any questions um this is sort of related so these the apartments that are going up right next ORD right now those that's going to bring in a bunch of K isn't it we have no way of knowing for sure we have any because we may have existing families that inhabit those dwellings and those would be people that are already enrolled um unless there's an industry that is pulling folks in out of the valley or from other areas that would be that would be a change in our population which if they're bringing their
034kids and that would be a change in our enr as well but until we start seeing them feel L we don't know for sure and it's not going to hurtt us by any stretch but um would be an opportunity for families who qualify instead of having to move to the valley they could stay local and that that would be positive for the district that there students still being enrolled okay uh item 9 B inter District transfer reports there have been no transfers in or out of the district and the next report we have on transfer will be at August meeting on there next is item 9C academic achievement and differentiated assistance I don't have any like supporting documents on that for tonight just um we started our meeting with our differentiated assistance that committee had
035a meeting two weeks ago I think for the um differentiated ass for special education in English language arts and so that was a really Dynamic meeting and we asked a lot of really good questions that um probably would not have been asked if we didn't have certain people in the room and so um we are digging into that data right now myself Jim sergeant from the county to look at that and see what we can do to come up with the plan to improve that for the upcoming school year um and sites have started cast testing and I haven't had a chance to look at and disaggregate the um the third I ready assessment but I will be doing that and we'll have a report on that we'll have to have a report on that
036for our first meeting in June item nine the GR more uh we included this this evening just uh more an awareness we we've seen um obviously we we've talked at n about the need for mental health supports in our social emotional learning program we we've got needs that are now than what we've what I've ever seen in my career um they're pretty severe uh the state has made comments uh Governor Nome has made this part of his platform for the last few years of making funds available for ongoing counseling services in schools Mental Health Services in schools um our pce of Supply amounted to $1,340 that that was our grants and it starts started July 1 of 2023 and it ends September 30th of 2025 so we're really looking at a two-year Grant and it
037was $10,000 but there it is the media wants to really run with this and say oh look how much the state is has committed to schools but when you break it down that big amount that's in headlines break it down this is what it means for us um so we're forced to look at other other means to fund our program is that that's the the total Grant $1,034 yes per month or no twoe period Well that really isn't much no but it's something but it is something I don't want to say we don't appreciate it we do but we'd appreciate a lot more just like we would appreciate our federal and state government funding our special ed program bull or our transportation buling which they don't okay item 9 e Chromebook donations to the California
038Cadet court that what was talking about early go ahead sir um I had uh the first gen staff Chromebooks uh kind of sit in the pile of my office I was either going to thr away Conn use it and they said yes and they said how kid and 40 so cool and if I have some more I will probably reach out to them again need it they they just kind of basic go on the internet great this letter shows a lot of appreciation for that you they're all working right [Laughter] yeah better than no you com all right hey item 10 accomplishments and other reasons to celebrate from throughout the district uh o elementary school she was able to be here this evening she'll do a double recording yeah I'll didn't you already do yours
039with the dance yeah I did and I apologize my was very late in today I will substantially okay did to stop it it just getting a real sneak peek into my world right now only we [Music] get okay so I am going to be showing you a lot of pictures and just talking about them because you guys want to see the kids so um we celebrated our great really Earth me there so uh some of you were able to come and partake in the upcycle assembly um this group of kids oh my gosh they are all sixth graders now and this is probably the third or fourth year they've done a play Oh on second sequel this was sequel they're always perform they write their own plays they write their own line they do their
040choreography they do everything and this was their sequel um Billy and the neglected water bottle and they were teaching the import of reduce reuse recycle um they're amazing is they're so fun uh this year we did an upcycle rally instead the trashing show so there were different categories they included wearables so you see uh is that meline wearing a dress that she made we have home decor art uh Luca there created a craft style like M tool style tool chest out of some boxes that were in his house and he had big plans to take this home and use it as a dresser in his room and his mom was really hoping that she could accidentally leave it out in the range there was some negotiating going on watch in my father uh Lily repurposed
041an old like TV stand to make a garden bench workstation and then oh my gosh Dennis's Bowl um it was a paper salad that he had there in that bowl was awesome a gallon milk jug that he cut the top off and left the handle so your utensils would always have somewhere to go what your utensils like falling lost in the salad and in the dressing although paper salad buts and dressing on it uh these were some of the art we had Roy the Koy uh and didn't Roy win in award yeah Roy won an award and then we have the bird feeder using old Chopsticks and an old water bottle so that was great that's pretty weather resistant um we had a huge turnout from our community sponsors uh the community really showed out
042for us and the weather held great um so Casey and his crew at South Gate Brewery came and they made some homemade Minon soup packed with vegetables and we got kids to eat quite a bit of it it was awesome that's such a good soup if you go to Southgate I highly recommend this joury he had some different vegetables l kids have to try and guess which plant was which vegetable uh climatech refer from climatech came out from Arizona uh Arbor Works brought some big rigs and equipment and had kids looking through the little viewfinder so they could try to judge the height of trees and power folds and things it was really cool uh Cal pting was there with an excavator and a huge big rig and of course all the kids got to
043climb in the big rig and sound the form and I think it only took about 2 hours before the neighbors started calling to find out what was happening and how much longer the horn going was going to be going on and that c always was a crazy great sponsor for us they donated ,000 Plus for prizes they had their big dump truck the garbage trucks there of course they were letting the kids come there and put the switches and fly the cans everybody was so good with the kids every adults who don't work with kids all the time they they did great they Huckleberry Farms has microG grain and um I know a lot of our staff has been ordering micrin from him it's really amazing if you want Miss has the down left basic
044lines CL donated a couple of fruit trees too uh the kids had craft station they were working to build their Garden so we had some big kids doing some compost filling so all the beds are ready for the next planting Doug the bee guy was awesome so what you're looking at on the left there is if bees are just allowed to create a free form honeycomb that's what he got and the coolest thing about I was just I don't know why I was Gob smacked by this but do you see the spacing between the Honeycombs the bees instinctually know to space the Honeycombs far enough apart so that two worker bees can work one on either side on the internal like Channel without bumping into each other I was like what you guys are me
045do that's um he was so great with the kids he taught them about f sooning that's when the bees are up at the top hanging like fats and they're secreting all the wax and the wax is running off them and the other workers come and they take it and they build Honeycombs I think I spent more time at his station because I was like wait what are they doing tell them what they're doing and these boys were digging it he was he was so passionate about his bees and it was really really need uh Mrs Frank wanted to bring some of her wax mum kids by tonight but dancing until priority so maybe next time yes these kids rocked it so here we've got George Washington we peddy Roosevelt um the girl in the red
046sha behind her is I think she might have been s be Anthony um that is Georgia o' there she was also one of the dancers today uh Addie was shley Temple they each memor they wrote they researched wrote and memorized one to three minute speeches about their character and gave the in character uh Jane Goodall there was one of the dancers tonight and another one of the dancers uh was a prima ballerina so it made sense right yeah and that on the left what is he she's the she's the Prima B oh on the left is Jan G okay you can't see his monkey that he's holding there gota okay um and then our Prim ballerina they were impressive gosh they they were amazing I wish I could show you like the video um um
047we have Sally right there with her board on the left and I believe that's Anne Frank on stage she was also one of the daners giving her sh presid State physics came their graduate students will come and they will do a free presentation for your kids they also came to us and then o it's donation only but it's part of the graduate student program so they came this was all on Earth Day it was a wild day they learned about static electric electricity why you can't lay on a bed of nails without getting hurt um they were doing great things they all made ice cream using make ice cream you weren't there I didn't get to be there either I had to cover a class I had to teaching with a broken foot um electricity
048what they liquid nitrogen thank you liquid nitrogen mil um and milk not just liquid nitrogen yeah uh but the kids did a great job and it's part of their gradu program so I would encourage you yeah they are I would encourage you anytime you are anywhere if you can get these kids to come and talk to you it's great spelling be is over we had some great Champions we had some fourth place winners three first place winners KS a great job and I think that might be all we had Sugar Pine railroad it's field trip season the kids went to Sugar time railroad it didn't rain Mother Nature's been good to us it was cold they learned about loal history the gold panning ja and what jackets and jackets and why you can never trust
049the weather in May a good lesson so thank you thank all right hello um I have a striking lack of photos tonight so we have that going on um I'm not really sure why but it's true uh so many great things so pictures um we had uh a lot of people uh we didn't have a huge track team this year uh for whatever reasons but you know our Sports um people have been waning a little bit but uh from that we had several people qualify at the local track meet to be able to go to the qualifying meet for at yhs and some people made it down to four qualifiers made it down to Clovis um we had uh our mathletes two seventh grade students to first place and two eth graders took third place
050um that was boy that was a group of students who got pulled together right at the end of things um and and thanks to our teachers for putting that together because it was a bit of a ah you know and then and then got people going on it so it went pretty darn well uh also uh our 2024 youth ambassador from my club is Bella Walters who goes to Oi she's an a Creator she had to um go through a well there there were representatives of each um my club around the area who were I guess running for this position and they had to be interviewed and then they gave a speech in front of the uh the audience that night and then they were judged and he came out to on top of that
051and won a $500 check which was really cool she's been doing very well um so that's pretty cool um getting it done pack store we've had our second to last now we have one more pack store coming up and again that's through PBIS rewards where the students can earn points and then spend those points on different things um the last we just have a couple more experiences to do where they can watch a movie or do something I think there's indoor soccer coming up also um otherwise there have been things to buy and then at the end of the year when they have points they haven't spent yet or whatever we don't let them carry them over into the next year because in the sixth grad we'll have zero and and the other kids will
052have a bigger balance it's hard to pra things that way um so what I did last year was um buy several more expensive nicer uh things and um then let them buy tickets rapid tickets basically and it's all done on the program so it's super easy to do like that and they can actually buy them on their Chromebook they can just go ahead and do it and then we set a date and and off they go and they went a price you know that was $100 or so uh worth the product um cast testing we just wrapped up our last day today of official testing um we have makeup work to do and finishing tests that kind of stuff will'll be generally done by the end of the week um we kind of put a
053hurry on it for the eighth grade we started out last week with them because the the scheduling got changed this year for um law day which is when students go up to somebody and there's a writing competition and that kind of thing that's actually on the 10th this Friday so normally we we wouldn't start a week before but we did with them because they have the science tests but the other students don't have at our school um for udl training um we had U let's see Jess go ahead what's udl thank you that's a good question Universal Design learning um it's um okay I I've used this probably not with you all but it's a it's a way that I've explained it before that makes sense to me so hopefully it does for you looking
054at how to meet the needs of everybody in the class from those are Advanced to those that are trying to catch up to those in the middle um the and it's difficult that's a very difficult thing to do um and especially would well Ty Ty Al have one one teacher in the room and so that makes it very good we're going to be working on it next year and trying to a different model and that's ongoing talks um to say the least but um so for Universal Design pardon me it's an example of I can give you is this there there are a bunch of people waiting at the bottom of these steps um and it's there's a ramp over here and there steps here it's all covered in snow and all the kids are
055waiting there to get up the steps and to the top and uh the uh the janitor there um shoving off the steps and one of the kids says you know if you show up the ramp we can all get if you show up first and I probably just kind of butchered how that goes but you get the idea which is if you make something more accessible for one person you've made it more accessible for all people and you probably made it accessible people that you realize that needed that access so there could have been someone who wanted to walk up those stairs who had a store KN but the ramp was easier clearly there's someone there in a wheelchair and they can't get up the stairs so they're trying to get up the ramp but
056if we create that ramp for everybody then everybody has access it's much more easily said I didn't do it well this evening than it is um so it's it's quite a thing and we've had uh people up from selfa that from the county working with us on that so they do not four times now I've attended one workshop on that and uh bought a few books I up to sta to read and they're kind of um getting ready to kind of lay that up for next year and part of that is we are creating more inclusion in our classrooms which is where we've needed to be for a while but it's just become more obvious so students with IPS things like that are going to be more in the classroom less out of the classroom
057and that seemed like this the udl university design learning is a good way to ACC going to be a lot of work there's going to be a lot going on um ongoing wonderfulness that was my title for the next one um we it was busy we um we're starting inter inter mural flag football uh 53 students signed up so this much time stuff that Mr Peterson's doing um he gave me the statistic here that 372 students have taken part lunchtime inal Sports this year obviously that's not each individual student a lot of them repeat but that's a lot of people that have been taking part and it is super obvious when we have those those Sports going on um there are so many more kids that are actively engaged at on recess and quite frankly
058it makes the rest of what's going on much easier also because the uh the need for super tight supervision goes way down there there's less kids kids that are kind of hambling and that kind of thing um girls flag football and boys flag uh excuse me I miswrote that we have girls FL football and boys volleyball uh going on right now um it's I guess we'd have a game we don't have boys play Fray right the boys are the girls yeah um because we have so many kidos out going to we won't have the the volleyball doing that um we have donuts and coffee dryr coming up and I didn't put a date on here but it's Friday the 17th before school so you're all welcome everybody's welcome to come by get donuts get some
059coffee our um leadership kiddos will be out there doing that and mfield will be working with that also what day is that the 17th FR Donut oh my goodness they Dro for I think it was for teachers week Teachers Day week they dropped seven dozen donuts it's so ridiculous we have what how many teachers yeah it's not quite a for very generous nonetheless over JS um two a grade cadetes uh in the cadet core were invited to go to the US Midway and spent the night down in San Diego um Jennifer bod went down with them and um the high school was doing that but they had a couple of extra spots so so a couple of the eighth graders who were doing very well got to go along and and this like I said
060went down with it's really cool experience that was just over the weekend um Friday night into second um our RSP and SBC always graders came by to take a tour of oci and I was in a meeting but I heard it was the best tour so far so that's good and it's always good to have people come over and the the general students will be doing that later this year remember the day on and then we have a Outsider dress up day um so in the eth grade they've been reading The Outsiders and people could dress up um like one of the characters or something like that so they did um I wasn't aware that it was happening that day and so when when I saw these people it was a bit of a surprise
061um but they great so it's and they always enjoy doing that and this is where um Mrs S and Mrs work together on it's true and then this wasn't on here because but uh you're probably all very aware that the March family has had a tragedy in their life and um we will we will at all of our sites we're just sending out um parents SS in the morning um that at all of our sites will have drop off boxes um where we can collect anything from letters to the family members to to thoughts to prayers to gift cards to whatever seems appropriate and so they'll be those uh they'll be picked up and delivered to the family this Friday the 10th and then again the 17th and delivered like that so if anybody wants
062to drop something off like that please feel free there also gofund me U for both of the the families they two sets and so um I know that that's been going very well for that the migration and it's a tough spot for our community and there's been a lot of really good um support going on in our schools and with our um with our people in our schools with the students and in between districts and people just just talking so it's um a very very s moment but also a problem number 11 report the first item on my report tonight was going to be exactly what Tim just concluded his report with the uh the amount of support going to the greater million March family know it's a blended family but they could certainly use
063our our help in addition to our thoughts and first um attached to the agenda tonight is the May District technology department report um seph and I had spoken earlier in the year about regular reports and last month made it onto the agenda I'm bounced to steep so when he saw when we got to meeting T night he thought he was giving a report and he had already done what he needed to do so I I broke down communication Stu my apologies but um but you can read there a lot of it has been touched on already tonight during the course of the meeting so that's there for your perusal um I want to bring bring acknowledgement to it being national teacher appreciation Michelle sent a message out to the district earlier today um we cannot
064say thank you enough to our teachers in our district we are blessed Beyond to have the staff that we do in all all of our locations in the district um of people who more than anything care about kids and we do anything on behalf so um with that being said I reiterate everything Michelle said and then some and offer thanks to to our teachers during this amazing week at the same time national school principales week came and went in a blur and I I couldn't say enough about principles that we have on our step um I was fortunate enough to be invited out to serve as a judge along with Genie uh during a celebration that that principal Archer gave mention to during Earth Day week um Lesly absolute first class as usual I'll be
065happy to come sir but it will be in a different capacity I'll be a parent volteer um but Earth day was was a hit and I was also going to mention the Blasted horn from the truck that the neighbors were calling about I was only on site for about an hour and it was time to check out but but yeah it was absolutely outstanding yesterday I was SPS enough as principal Archer mentioned it is field trip season Robert can attest to that um we had two classes go down to Chuck chansy Park yesterday for making the grade day now the frent Bruley since their Inception they have been dedicated to being um proud partners with the education community in central California U they promote literacy like a few others and yesterday was their day to
066invite the kids to come down to the park they had an 11:00 first pitch which is very unheard of for minor league baseball um I think the players were sleepwalking for the first seven Innings uh because they're normally not out of bed until 11 or 12 o'clock each day U but um I was I was so thrilled for our our wasuma kids who were able to go down and because the wasuma kids were among the first schools to be in the park I think they made it on the jron in house television screen at least 10 times jumping up and down dancing to the music and carrying on they were the kids were pretty happy but they by far were the most well behaved group in the park as well and that I took a
067lot of pride in that and believe it or not and last on my list here we have eighth grade promotion ceremonies on the horizon in just a few weeks on June 10th we will have wum wild cats and then on June 11th oci with promotion ceremonies we have June 12 as the last day of school believe are not we're only a month away it is upon us so plan oford so board members drop those dat down June 10th June 11th oi you have a Time same you're the same here Monday and Tuesday that week 10 so be more information coming out as we get somewh closer lots and lots of stuff going on that's my report thank Mr seals is there any FR fls this year or no no what 7 Tuesday 11 you want

069to looking forward to being at that so thank you oh I am just echoing the thank you to the teachers and principals and all of the staff although it's teacher appreciation week so thank you um and else I needed to update you on uh well we went to the um mad County School Board update and um Kevin Kevin is that his name Kevin was there yeah and kind of gave us a little bit of a bleak not completely Bleak but um we're talking about the finances for school uh school for the upcoming year and I didn't did he the May revise that hasn't happened yet right I'm stuck on his last name May Kevin Capital advis mayis has not come out yet but today there was more information released it's looking even more Bleak it
070was he's really usually upbeat and he still is upbeat he's a great speaker but he did you know the there's some funding issues with education coming up which we've been kind of anticipating so that was a little bit of it'll probably be a little bit of a struggle for us but um anyway that's all I can't make it to kindergarten graduation I apologize um and sorry I missed um Earth Day out of town but I've been before it I know the brilliant job you do and I can't wait to go next year thank you that's um I'm also going to Echo the sentiments about the teacher thank you for everything you do we appreciate you we know how hard you work and I know it's a bit of a grind to get to June at
071this point so just keep up the good work and even though my son wasn't educated in blsd um he was a mountain homegrown kid that went through the school system and in a full circle moment um he will be at La day he went to LA day as a student and now will be there as practi that's super so anyway so thank you to our Mountain teacher you guys are chilling it so how can I top that so yeah so I just want to thank the teachers as well and I know your jobs are very challenging and the second grade class I help in Mrs ell she does a phenomenal job but there are a lot of challenges with these kids trying to keep them you know focused and so we appreciate how what you
072have to you know do every day so thank you so much and I love seeing the dancers oh my gosh and I wish my kids were little they could have had this at school but my girls did that same type of dance with the little outfit so triy not to cry on that one but appreciate that we have that to Aller our schs thank you um I too want to send um words of appreciation to all of our teachers and staff for all that they do all the things that we see and all the things that we don't see all of the planning ahead of time in the middle of the night and if you don't W up and write it down you'll forget or it's okay to forget too um I also wanted to
073just report on some activity that I've been doing as a school board member um Stephen high and myself attended a school Finance Workshop in Fowler and um it was very educational and reassuring uh Tera Campanella does a fantastic job with informing us about key issues that impact our funding and her transparency and her reports regarding our financial position uh it was really awesome to have the instructors try and like walk us through um the reports and then have them draw our attention to something and when I pulled out the ones that were given at our district it's underlined exactly what they want us to look at and terara has already done that for us so I know that we're looking at the right things it's so just confidence building and I just really I wish
074she was here so I could stare at her and um make her squir but she does a fantastic job and it's just always awesome to get an outside point of view to reiterate what we already know and feel and so that was great and then um I'll be attending the governor's revise workshop at the end of the month and that is been important um item 13 future agenda items are we on 13 Oh I thought you said I have 13 future agenda itemp and I thought she said that I would have come across the table if not how I want to go out oh sure we got approve all those policies but we I I will point out that uh the June meetings the key points are going to be the lcap of the budget
075with our public hearings at the first meeting and then your vote for approval on the second one those will be the highlights I can't promise there won't be other things on the agenda but it's the 19th and 26th still right we did the last two weeks jie we had many discuss last we can't be the 19 19th holiday so it's the 18th and the 26th June 18th and the 26 it's the 18th 18th 18 Tuesday June 19th the federal holiday okay I have it on my calendar it's the 19th originally it was but we moved that back in I think January yep well I am very School ion be I won't be here till the 18th I'm sorry I'm out of town on the 18th I don't know the I'm here for the 26 but
