Uh, we had a field trip today, which is pretty cool. You get to choose your own. There was three. There was horseback riding. There was alpine sliding fishing. That was pretty cool. I went fishing today. Uh, we have 34 students in Mr. Shower's class, 24 Miss
Draper. Miss Draper has had one graduate since the last meeting and four more about to graduate and we started our cooking classes last week which are pretty cool. We made breakfast burritos. Uh last week we made something easy like quesadillas. Next week uh we're making chocolate and strawberry pancakes which I know how to make by scratch so I recommend that one. >> That's about it. >> Did you catch a fish? >> Oh yeah, I caught two. Did you jump? >> Nah, I'm a >> What time did you go out? >> Uh, but probably not. >> So, it was later in the morning. You didn't see the rowing team out there? >> No. >> So, the graduates, people graduating. Are they going to come to graduation? Do you know? >> Uh, yeah. >> Okay. So, they'll

Item eight. Action taken in close session. There's no reportable action taken in close session. Um, so moving on to the public hearing or comment. I only have one card. Go. >> Like many of you, I wear many hats. So, I'm not coming to you about vote today about that. And I can't stay till the end of the meeting like I normally do, but
tomorrow is National Day of Prayer. And normally I would mail these to you, but this this has been a crazy year. >> Just hand them to them and we can pass >> and I have the for all of you. And you know, we do uh pray for a lot of things. It's just an hour, but we do pray for our schools. And that's one thing that you should realize that there are people in this valley that are praying for our schools and for our kids. So when we hear these, you know, presentations every time, um it just makes me happy because they're they're doing some positive things and from our perspective, we just want other things to be clean. cleaning our libraries and all that, you are stuck between a hard rock and a hard
place. You have to deal with whatever the state tells you as far as curriculum and all that kind of stuff. So, that's all I needed to say today. >> Okay, >> God bless you to see some of you tomorrow. >> Okay, Mr. Branson here. Yeah. Not only do I pray for schools and the parents of people going to this school, I'm praying for the state of California to be able to survive with some of the garbage that's going on and the corruption. Yeah. You know what? The this the state mandates things, but that doesn't mean you can't stand up and fight it. I get all kinds of comments over at the uh city hall of the corruption going on in the state from old people getting screwed by uh the uh uh what is that
when you go to old people's place. None of you would know. You're all too young. Hospice. Omosphere. What a corrupt state. And it starts in Sacramento, the garbage. And it flows down to this school district. You know, it's time that some people stand up and fight because, you know, I want things to be helped. People be helped, but not stolen money from NOS's and corrupt nonprofits. and we're getting them here in the valley. It's unbelievable. I was at planning today. This is going to be the new Chevron gas station over on the entrance of the village. I told him it looked like an ugly building. But you know what? At least this Chevron station isn't going out of business. Like hundreds of Chevron stations that just say, "Hey, forget it, California. We're out of here.
There refineries out of here. Other refineries out of here." Even Blue Diamond, the almond, is getting the hell out of California. You know what? I don't blame them. what's going on in the stuff that just this California is trying to do the assembly. We have a council person going to run for that can't disclaim the corruption. We have corruption with the homeless people. What a ripoff. It's a joke. trying to help the homeless and are screwing the taxpayers. No, grants are our still our money. No matter how you get it, grants are our money. Excuse me one minute. That was my girlfriend. Time's up. >> I'm sorry, your time is up. >> Three minutes. But you're >> at the same time the timer. >> Yeah. Well, you know, I get to go home now and
be in trouble, >> but I was used to it. I was married 25 years ago. >> Okay. Item 10, the consent calendar. Anyone want to remove anything from the consent calendar? >> Do I have a motion? >> Second. >> All in favor? I oppose. No. Unanimous. >> There are no items removed from this calendar. Therefore, we move on to employee announcements. >> We have quite a few. Yes. By the look of our audience, we have quite a few. It is that time of year. Uh Mr. Williams has been very busy right now. We're hiring a lot of people. It's that time of year and we're extremely lucky with a lot of applicants that we had. I think we're feeling very, very fortunate right now, especially with the some of the more challenging positions to fill.
So, we'll start out with classified our new duty aid at Baldwin Lane Elementary School. We have Jessica Rushing. We are delighted to welcome Jessica Rushing as new duty aid at Baldwin Lane Elementary School. Uh Jessica has children in the district and has been an active and dedicated volunteer for our district for several years. Her commitment and familiarity to our schools make her a fantastic addition to Baldwin Lane. I know she also serves on boosters. She's been a wonderful parent, so we're very lucky to have her. I do not believe Jessica is in our audience today. Our next one we have Eddie Ruiz. I do not believe he's here. Very hard position to build bus drivers. We are pleased to announce that Eddie Ruiz has officially joined our transportation team as a bus driver. Eddie successfully

We are really excited and I will tell you it was exciting that he knew where Falls was. So, that was a win. He had driven by. He knew exactly what he was getting into with Falls. It's such a unique setting. Um, I think that he's going to be a gift for them and anybody that goes to Fallsville knows what an honor it is to work at that school. So, it's a very rare time that we have a position open at Falls with only being three teachers in that whole little world down there. Uh, it's wonderful. I know Shannon's excited. Shannon being the principal down there. >> That it is really exciting. Jonathan, we welcome you
and please could you introduce who you have with you? >> Oh, yeah. This is my friend Bren. Ricky has been a substitute teacher for the past few years and we are excited and honored to have her join us um BBUSD fulltime. when they say somebody who wrote the book, she literally wrote the book. Um that we we're using she this is exciting. It's a huge find for us
to be able to have this in our small community. Somebody like this to replace somebody like Miss Griff really hard shoes to fill. But to have Ricky, we were very excited and very honored to be able to have her out here. I think she's going to help grow the program. It's going to be amazing. So really excited to have Ricky. Next one we have at a physical science teacher at Big Bear High School. I do not believe he's here. Benjamin. >> Oh yeah, that's right. >> Okay, Benjamin joins us. We have another person joining us from Avalon. So we, you know that that's where we got Dr. Francisco from. So teacher from Avalon uh and Long Beach for the past few years as well as serving as a science department head. He holds a master's
degree in education with experience in curriculum planning collaboration on the PBIS team and school site council. We are happy to have welcomed Jonathan to the team at Big Bear High School and know he will make a wonderful addition and a great difference for our students. Thank you and we welcome you. >> Um I have my mom Angela here and then um friends Michael >> good thing she's held in high regard. I know um we're excited to have you. I know I know you know we have such faith in do Dr. Francisco and she spoke so highly of you. So, we're really excited. I think it's going to be a great addition for Beer High School. Thank you. She was at Big Bear Middle School as an aid making a huge difference there. I know that Big Bear Middle School is very sad to lose her, but her energy already that she's so excited to
take on as any teacher is. They're excited to get in see their classroom. We are extremely lucky to have you. Becky is going to make an awesome addition to BBUSD and the Balden Link team. Welcome, Becky. We're so excited to have you. >> Wow, you have a whole new team. >> I do. >> That's exciting. >> It is exciting. >> Whole new teams mean opportunities. That's exciting. >> Next one. Special education teacher, >> not
at Baltimore Northshore Elementary School. He is not here, but it's a familiar name. It will be Reed Leong, who we all know, Mr. and Mrs. Leong, who have been long-term. I think Mr. Le Young is one of the highest people on our seniority list. Um, but Reed uh is wonderful. Reed was raised in Bear Valley, attending, uh, grades K through 12 as a student. He has a special education, uh, teacher. He is a special education teacher in Payet uh, school district in Idaho for the past two years and has experience in teaching high school math and coaching basketball. Reed is skilled in the classroom management, IEP implementation, as well as datadriven instruction, and will be a great addition to our team at Northshore Elementary School. And we welcome Reed. So, please give Reed a hand.
This is one of the really fun parts of our job when we get to hire Big Bear High School graduates. That's always an honor. We love interviewing them. It was fun to interview Reed. Um it we're really excited about the addition. I know his family's really excited that he gets to come home. Um, Reed just had a him and his wife just had a baby. So, I think they're excited to come home. And I know Debbie and they're both they're really excited and the family are both really excited and Chris. So, that's exciting for the whole family. And last, Chris was a teacher when I was in high school here. So, >> wow, that's a long time. >> Thank you for stating that's a long time ago. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Oh, yeah. I
remember him. >> Okay. And last but not least, this is really exciting, too. We have our new head varsity football coach at Big Bear High School, Mr. Jesse Ser. Jesse grew up in Bear Valley, graduating from Big Bear High School. He currently is a special education teacher and a football coach at Big Bear High School. Jesse possesses robust leadership capabilities and effective communication skills alongside a steadfast commitment to both academic and athletic instruction. We would like to welcome Jesse to his new coaching role and look forward to an amazing and successful upcoming season. Nobody bleeds red the way Jesse does, the way he bleeds the white red at big. It's just he's passionate for it to the moment he was trying to get into Bear Valley. It was uh it was a long journey for
him to be here and he's worked and fought cuz this is something he wanted in his heart. WELCOME. >> That's fine. We have no more special education >> and I think that's it. I think it's back to me. >> Some of our reports can be fairly lengthy. If you guys would like to leave, we will. >> Do you want me to do the is it back to me? >> It will be. I'm just offering just not If anyone wants to leave, they're welcome to >> my desk. So when you go out, you'll see like a bamboo thing. >> Okay, awesome. Thank you for >> All right, let's start over. >> Okay, now we get together with superintendent comments. Okay. So, this week is is staff appreciation week. We've been uh the cabinet and I have
been very busy going to every site providing breakfast um to making sure everyone feels appreciated. Everyone did and those are your staff appreciation cups as well. There's the engraved and we did those for each of the sites. Every staff member had one with their school logo on it. We were able to provide breakfast or lunch depending on the site or department. Um it's been wonderful to be able to serve them. Uh huge shout out real quick to Ted Bear who's t restaurant and providing all the breakfast sandwiches for us in the morning. They were the swers were wonderful. Um and then also to Sonora Cantina. I know they provided things and they always take care of us. Marine takes care of us every time. Lunches here and there. They've been a wonderful job in addition.
So we want to thank them. I also want to thank is in the audience as far as the cups they came from which was Michael Francisco was in the audience. He's the one that provides all the cups. He gave us a good deal on that. So, we really appreciate everybody stepping up and we really trying to support the teachers and show that and show that appreciation. Okay, couple more things. Uh, shout out real quick to Mary Bradford. So, May 1st, we haven't done this in in in the past is National College Decision Day and something we haven't done before and she decided to put things something together real quick. Um, and we could see what it can be and what it should be in the future. But I was really glad Mary did it. What
they did is Rita put together a breakfast for every for all the kids who had made a college decision. So they had all their pictures up and everything. They would like to make it a bigger event next year. But it was really nice to be able to go shake their hands, say congratulations to the students that had made a decision. Didn't matter if what if it was a four year, two year if they had made a decision on where they were going or they had an acceptance letter uh was the way to get into the breakfast. Basically, they had over 43 over 43 uh students were there and then there was more that are still coming in and they're still getting acceptance letters. It was a excellent way to celebrate success and the kids that
are genuinely looking at their future. So, thank you to Mary Bradford and uh Big High School for doing that. Uh they would really like to make it a little bit larger event. We talked about like next year maybe inviting parents cuz those those of us that that have had a 12th grade student know that you're trying to soak up every last moment you can with your child. So to be able to be for them to be a part of it, not you ready to go. Um so it was really it was really a nice event. So thank you big high school for that. Um and I know one of you might talk about as well. I attended the school play. It was awesome. Loved being there. It was a great great experience. Um Big Bear
Middle School, shout out to Big Bear Middle School. We had some issues with with ELO and we had to expand the program at Big Bear Middle School in a fairly fast rate. Meaning we had to add you have to have so many days per year additional to the school day for the ELO program. And for us not to get an additional fine, we had to make sure that we had these built in. Leanne and her team put together something pretty impressive in a very short time frame. And what they've done is they have these Saturday ELO programs now, but she had Rita step in. They're doing cooking classes. They're going to add archery. They're going to add all these amazing things that the kids are doing. And they're loving it. The kids are loving it.
Rita's really enjoying being a part of it. Her some of the ladies from her nutrition department are stepping in to help the kids with the cooking classes. Really put together something extremely special very quickly. So, I want to thank the Big Bear Middle School team and everyone for being able to rally together and it ended up being something pretty amazing. So, >> so, so there's a certain if if we were getting paid for ELO, there's a certain number of hours that they have to participate in the programs and we were behind on that. So, >> behind on the hour well we we were behind the hours per day was n the the day has to be a 9h hour day on top of the night the including the after school program. So when the doors
open to when the after school program ends has to be a total of nine hours then there's so many additional days I can't you might be able thank you yes she remembers um additional days built in somewhere that can be summer school that can be other things but there has to be all these days built in that we're having additional elop can pay for field trips all kinds of different things and we're just tapping into that which is why we ran we flew that position for an ELO coordinator because we still haven't tapped everything this program could be and how much it can do for students with the funding available to us. So, we really want to make it something special and we'll be interviewing for that EDOT coordinator position pretty quick here quickly. It
just recently closed. So, they did a great job. Um, quick shout out to the transportation department with the growth of sped, they're constantly having to adjust and because of transportation is involved. Transportation off the hill is involved. Um, if you notice on the consent calendar, we had to purchase another vehicle. Then there's the drivers to drive certain vehicles. It's it's a lot and that transportation department continues to step up and be very creative about how they get the kids down the hill, how they get them down the hill safely is important. So the cars the car the suburban can't be too full because some of our more challenging students. Um so it's a bit of a shift and I'm really impressed the way Sean and his team has come together working with Jess trying to
make the best choices possible to make sure kids are transported safely adding drivers as he can. They're working hard and we don't even see the adjustments they make and on the fly they're having to make quick adjustments and I appreciate that. And last one I think with real quick Shannon left but Shannon has Shannon stepped up with Chrissy. When you lose your partner it's painful and she lost her partner mid year and Shannon stepped up out of the classroom and has been extremely helpful and impressive. Her knowledge of Baldwin Lane being at Baldwin Lane for quite some time now and her stepping up into the dean position you see the difference already. the teacher the teachers who already have a trust in Shannon and then her being Chrissy's right hand has been a extreme help
at Balden Lane some of the challenges they might have there with certain students has really been helpful to Chrissy and Shannon I wanted to give a shout out to Shannon she's done an amazing job stepping into that role pretty quickly and I think that's all I have for now yeah that's it okay uh 30B governing program reports I'll share I got to go to Mia. Uh fantastic. Like you said, it was a great performance. >> Every year I go in there uh especially when we have new people who are running in to see what they did and Stephanie I believe Stephanie Tukurt uh did an amazing job with it. Uh very nostalgic the music but the kids had a blast. It's fun when you can see them up there and sometimes you see performances where
the kids look scared and uh you know reserved and everyone was having a blast in the play which is neat to see and it's so neat to see you know you get all the sports events and you see the athletes out there but you forget that there's a whole different population of students who are more involved in the arts and it's really neat to see see a lot of the music but to see the drama the few chances that we do get to see the school plays it was phenomenal production it's so great to see uh that she did a great job and I guess Matthew Stickman uh helped to music teacher out there and a lot of props went to 100. It's uh uh my son having been in the play and being involved
in it. It's a way bigger deal putting that on than I ever imagined. So kudos for them to keep doing it and doing not only a great job but making it fun for the kids too. >> It was it was pretty impressive. >> It was flaw. It looked pretty flawless, too. It doesn't norally have sound or anything. They were pretty flawless. And all that background whoever whoever handled all the background, it was it was flawless. Everything was really well done. >> I went to opening night. I absolutely hate Aba, but I really enjoyed it and the kids did a great job. I was stationed in Germany and that's all they had. >> I heard the first night was the best night. Few parents had told me he went to the >> Yeah, it it was
neat to like you said, the kids were having a good time and and it it was uh really neat to see the kids um enjoy themselves up there and and uh there was a lot of kids in the audience and stuff. So that was neat. Um and it was a lot of the same kids that were at the Undead Toad Society open were there. It was neat to see. That's all. >> Um, yeah. I love ABA. >> You would. >> I had a date night set up with my wife and she canled at the last minute so I didn't get to >> Oh, and now you tell me how great it was. >> Yes. Um the only other thing is um I was asked by Mary Bradford to sit on the hall of fame committee.
Um I'm just learning and I'm not sure we totally know exactly how this is going to go but they're trying to organize um creating this hall of fame which will be virtual. It'll be a touchcreen on the wall at the high school. Um, and this will be the first year. So, it'll be, you know, kind of wide open for anybody from, you know, I guess when the school's open till, you know, I guess 5 years ago, but they're trying to establish their criteria, what was appropriate. Anyway, I'm going to be involved in that in some way. I don't know exactly what it is, but that's what's going >> How is that different than the Hall of Fame outside the gym? >> That's not a Hall of Fame. >> Okay. >> Um, those are It's a
whole hall. Both sides fall. >> But yeah, those are people see Mary explained that to us and now I believe they were all CIF. Those are those are students from Big Bear who were all CIF. It's not a hall of fame per se. And the Hall of Fame could be athletes or coaches, you know, or contribution to the school as a whole sort of thing. So there could be some overlap between the hall and the wall. >> Well said. Okay, that's it. You have suggestions for future meetings issues that are This is a busy time of year. >> All right.
