That's it. Um, moving on to item 13, the Sano County School Boards Association election. Um, the county has advised us that they've sent a slate of officers, but we can elect we can vote for anybody we like. We can write in anybody to any position, but they have a slate. So, it's the pleasure of the board. Do you want to vote for the slate or nominate someone else? I make a motion to vote for the slate that is identified in the item. >> I second. >> Any discussion? >> I was just going to say so I said on the board for the SCB all these SBCA [laughter] um and um know all of these people except the sandbag represent. I'm not sure but I may have met her. So I know some of us know
as well. Um so I I would feel very comfortable. Absolutely. >> And the president stands a snow line. So I know that our district represents uh mountain communities and also San Marino communities. So in general, I've been told if you want the mountains to be representative, it's better that you vote for representatives of mountain. So I think all these people in this at least that person who we don't know is in a smaller mountain. So >> okay, [clears throat] any further discussion? >> All in favor say I. I opposed. Unanimous. Moving on to 14. Um, first reading and adoption of the governing board policy updates. There's [snorts] only two. Um, >> I'll make the motion to approve. >> Second. >> Any discussion. These are just all basically updating formal state. >> Um, all in favor
sign. >> I oppose. No. >> It's unanimous. Item 15A, your first reading of the single plans for student achievement for all schools. Any discussion or motion to approve? I'll make the motion to approve. Second. >> Um, all in favor? >> Oppos? No. It's [clears throat] unanimous. Um item B, first reading of the 2627 instructional minutes and bell schedules for Bella School District. Um this is just the first reading. We have the left. >> I have a question on that. Mr. Marquez, I think uh the person who spoke mentioned it was an hour and 20 minutes early. What the difference in bell times? >> The 25 minutes. So >> because we because we did not have to require we were not required because of our own school district basically because of these reasons because of scheduling
and our unique demographics as far as spread out areas and busing services. So we only did the 25 minutes. We didn't go to what the state requirement was for a lot of school districts. So >> well for us it was a recommendation. >> It was a recommendation. It was only a recommendation for us. We weren't required to do so. We chose to do so to try it. But the the one of the primary reasons we're going back is exactly for students. Because of the students, not just for staff, but because of students and because of Baldin Lane ones getting out so late at this, you know, this time all of a sudden at 4:30 by the time the bus is finished running, we're dropping off kids in the dark. >> We cannot have that. And
that was one of the major issues. And also there's a little bit you can get into when they start later and then even all our athletes are missing more school time when they have to travel. They're missing more school time because their day is ending later. So this is the reason we really looked at this is because teachers like we're not seeing the improvements in students. We're not seeing any improvement in students. We're not validating any improvements students because we only do 25 minutes because of our bus schedules. So the main reason for this really was because of the bus schedules and because of having students get out so late, >> you know, because because of [clears throat] that question came up. I read four recent studies. Uh, one was 2021, one was 2023, and
I don't know what the others were, but you you know the old saying, the proofs in the pudding. Well, the proof wasn't in the pudding. It has not increased student achievement. If you look at the state testing scores they've actually produced since it's become mandatory. So, the proof isn't there. And you know, even though there's 20 years of study, I think the argument is yes, if kids get more sleep, they're they're um going to do better. There's no question about that. >> Oh, we are. >> But starting at 8:30 does not equal additional sleep. >> What What about tardies? Did our tardies situation improve? >> So, same number of students. >> We did not see those >> walking in with Starbucks. Uh so we really were doing this based off of what is best for
students, what is best for the district. Uh we looked at the whole picture and we really felt like we put an effort into it. We made some changes but ultimately it's that we have to look at students and the safety of students. >> As a parent with two kids in the school right now, I prefer the later start time. However, if we look at how it affects all our students, it's not the right thing. >> If she doesn't contact you, please contact >> I we will be contacting her and make sure we have discussion. >> Okay. Do you have a motion to approve? >> All in favor? >> I just want to make sure we I wanted to thank Ryan, Mr. William on all that cuz he had to put a lot of work into
making sure our times were right. Making sure we put a lot of effort into that between discussions between him and as far as making sure because we had the minutes all these other things we had to make sure we were there back. >> Thank you both. >> Okay. Okay. Item 16A, a public hearing and public comment available for a variable term waiver for the 25 26 school year for these speech pathologists who uh this is a public hearing so I'll have to open the public hearing. Uh if you'd like to comment on this seeing none I'll close the public hearing have a motion. Oh no we got to move to the next one. That was just a public hearing. Uh item B is to actually approve uh the variable term waiver. So >> I will
second that so we can have a speech pis Mr. >> All in favor signify say >> I post no it's unanimous >> item 17 suggestions for first meeting of the year. >> Okay.
