Just curious, what have you gone on all the field trips? >> Uh, I've gone on the Jordan [snorts] yet. >> What have you enjoyed the most? >> The most probably not the hikes, but mainly the bowling barn or the driving range. >> Is the hike something you just haven't done? Even though being in Big Bear, or is it just doing it with your friends, it makes it different? >> Um, I

haven't been on any of them, but it's pretty cool. Oh, we also went to the zoo [clears throat] a couple times. >> You guys also got on the lake, right, earlier this year? Yeah. >> So, if you like Cougar Crest, try uh on your own time or get some friends. Grace Peak is a really cool. >> It's really cool. >> I like the fact you brings up the point that we have so many wonderful things in our valley that we don't realize that a lot of our students don't get exposed to these just like the golfing or the third grade skiing and those kind of stuff. >> So, I'm glad you enjoy. >> Have you been on the trail before? >> No. >> It's cool. >> It's very cool. 008oppose. >> No items removed from it calendar. Uh Miss Marquez employee announcement. >> Uh yes sir. I have um we have uh four classified employees. uh cafeteria worker floater uh Roseabelle Aricio. Rosebel has been a valued member of the nutrition department since uh August of 25 and we are delighted that she'll be continuing her dedicated service to the child nutrition program through her new position. We look forward to her continued impact. Uh a onetoone ma seir special education aid at Big Bear High School. Uh Tanga [clears throat] Dobby believe that's how we say that name. Uh we are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to TA as one of our newest team members. Uh she is new to Big Bear to the Big Bear area and has already become part of our school community. She

has three sons currently enrolled in the in the district. Her enthusiasm for joining the team is evident and she's already taken initiative by volunteering in the special day class program at the high school. Uh this early involvement shows her commitment to our students and staff. I know those are always hard positions to fill. takes the right person and I know everyone's really excited about having her there uh with that class. Uh new new at Baldwin Lane Elementary, Dalia Quillis. Uh we are thrilled to announce that Dalia has joined the team at Baldwin Lane Elementary. Dalia brings to her profound dedication and passion for ensuring the well-being of the safety of every student. We are confident that her focus on student safety aligns perfectly with Baldwin Lane core values. We are eagerly anticipate a positive impact

she will have on our students and staff and a special education aid Tracy Evans. We are pleased to introduce Tracy who has taken on a new role within our school community. Tracy began her dedicated career right here at Baldwin Lane as a new DB aid where she quickly became a valued member of the team. We are excited for her continued professional growth within the district as she transitions into her new position working in our special education department. Tracy's commitment to our students make her an excellent fit for this new endeavor. >> That's it. >> Now it's your turn again. >> Back to me. Thank you. Um just wanted to hats off to the Baltic elementary schools that they getting through Halloween. Um Baldin Lane did a wonderful trunk or treat unfortunately during all that traffic

to those same times. They did a great trunk or treat. And Northshore getting back to its roots a little bit. They had a wonderful evening where they had their fall festival. um which was a big deal trying to bring that together as a community uh event. Both Dr. Brit um and Miss Cox are doing a really good job making sure that culture is strong uh and ensuring that the academics come along with it. Got to be able to tour both of those over the past couple weeks and looking around and really having a good engaging conversation with them. They are really focused and what's probably nice between the two schools right now. Uh we were talking today in a meeting that we had with our what's it called? um straight with our um >> instructions

>> instruction. Thank you. With our instructional rounds today with the person the person we hired for our instructional rounds, it really is going good. It's new. There's always when you have new things, there's always going to be a little bit of bumps and learning and trying to get everyone on board. The purpose of the instructional rounds though is really so that teachers are learning from other teachers and all the strengths we have from within. and she's guiding us through this process of understanding what good instructional rounds look like. Not just going into a classroom and saying, "Oh, that was cute." and walking out. Looking at and it's not evaluated for the teacher. It's growth. We're looking for growth for teachers and administrators as well. Looking at how administrators go in and looking at their classes,

everything. Um, Mr. Drake has been part of that process and making sure that all the teachers come on board. Like I said, it's new, but we're trying to develop a process where we become a district where teachers feel comfortable with people entering their classroom, their colleagues entering their classroom and learning from each other. So, we're excited about that process and the two principles working together with that process, I believe, is going to make it stronger. So, it was nice to be a part of that meeting today with Mr. Drake um and two principles. Okay. And then we did have our CCSP committee meeting. Uh with our CCSP grant, we have, you know, we have a certain pocket of money that is restricted as far as how we spend with that CCSP money. Just like with

our SIPAS and things like that, we have to be able to bring these committees together because it is a community that we have to have the community informed of what we're doing and how we're looking at possibly doing with the remainder of this money over the next three and a half years because we're already a year and a half in. great meeting and every we had this room full of all community members as far as all the different organizations whether it was it was Ed Trust that was in here. It was all the um we had Rotary here. We had all of our service organizations. We had mom and dad project here. Everyone contributing to what they have done for the schools for the school district in the past and how they can help in

the future. and we let them know what our challenges are right now, what we're trying to meet, how we're trying to meet and really focus on what we've discussed in in this quarter as well as far as the social emotional health students. Uh we also had our kids from the ACT program, they were here with us as well because they wanted to be able to give input and hear the presentation. So, it was really a lot of good input from everyone. I had I'm very grateful for all those people taking the time, everyone that showed up out of their busy schedules to take time because that's how truly amazing we are as a community that all those people were willing to come together to really see what we were doing in this district and how

they can continue to support whatever groups there. Andy break bill from Rotary. Everybody in the room and it was it was a great conversation and everyone kind of giving an input on what they believe they can support and how it's support and kind of hone in what's already there but trying to bring it in a little tighter so that we genuinely know our resources is within the community and that was a great meeting. Um high school I had another visit with the high school which was always a good time that you know Mr. Robert said he wanted to talk about the assembly a little bit, but just wanted to shout out to the people that put that on real quick. There was an assembly at the high school. Our younger teachers coming in like uh

Miss Dantu and Miss Wolf coming in and really taking on what I love about the is these are students. These are teachers that were students at one time. So they know what's important at Big High School. They know what they enjoy at Big High School. So then seeing them taking on these kind of roles, these leadership roles, Hunter, all of them. Uh that's pretty exciting. It was it was a great great I'll let you explain a little bit more. That's all I got for now. >> All right. Next is uh governing board member reports. >> No. >> Good. >> I went to the high school and I the thing I noticed about it that I haven't necessarily seen before is I know this is going to sound dorky, but just like this attitude of happiness.

It was cheery and everyone was walking around with smiles on their faces and it was just not there wasn't any negativity that I could feel and I and I I stayed quite a while. I I was pretty blown away that it just seemed to be humming. It was like um really good to see. I mean it made me think, "Wow, they have really pulled this together." I mean they were happy. They were kind to each other. They were they weren't being loud or pushy and they were just great. It was really cool to see. So that was um it did my heart well. I thought that was a day well spent. >> I agree. And it's interesting what that does for when you talk about social emotional health and everything. And you're right. You do

see a certain kindness. You do see the kids smiling at adults and saying hi in high school. And you don't always see that in high schools at that age are always a little, you know, going through ups and downs, but it does. It was a very warm sense when you and I walked around. >> Yeah, it really was. >> And everybody in the world came up to say hi. It was really cute. [laughter] >> Dr. FS. >> Yeah, I went to the Maran football game. Um, it was an exciting game. Looked like they were coming back and they fell short unfortunately. Um, and they also fell short of making CIF. Marantha went. Um, but anyway, it was a good game to watch. Um, the exciting news is that the youth sports complex um should be

starting tree removal sometime in the next week. >> Wow. >> Okay. We got finally got the license issues. Everything's all resolved. Um, meeting with the contractor tomorrow and get them going probably a week from Monday. So, I'm finally excited that we're actually be doing something besides just digging holes and pulling out stuff. >> Jess, Craig and I have had so many conversations about soccer and fields and so many things that it's always your reference and the foundation is referenced more than you realize. It's going to be better once those are here that we have needed it so bad in this valley. I also made a presentation to the SRO Optimus board today >> um to see to explain what we were doing [clears throat] in hopes that they might be willing to to assist. So

they made no commitments today. It went well. [snorts] Um it uh I went to two events in the last couple weeks at the high school. One was the open mic night that uh the undead poet Society put on. That was it was neat. Um it was different according to Colin shower different than the one you went to the spring. >> Um and uh but it was still it was fun. It was neat to see the kids having a good time. >> Um and they sold baked goods and they're raising money for you know that annual field trip that they do. Um and then the other thing was the uh award ceremony for um acade academic achievement. Um went to that and Mandy was there in a Superman outfit. [laughter] >> I wear it all day.

[laughter] He's ready anytime. >> Yeah. Um, and I've gotta say I for the past 10 years we've been going to those at the different levels. The best by far. Uh, Jesse Cerrone got up there and led a uh Latin dance uh line dance that was really cool. Um the kids like the drama club got up and did a a thriller, Michael Jackson's thriller and um and there were skits and and it culminated with um Manny, Tina, and Chris getting by all the kids that got awards got pied in the face or so. It was terrific. You know, kids loved it. And uh Jesse, my son, they ran out of whipped cream, so he feels robbed that he didn't get to [laughter] >> Jesse like me go to the house. >> But yeah, that that's it

was a terrific event. Everyone was everyone seemed like you said happy. You know, even the kids that didn't get an award, it was a nice event for everybody. So it it was cool. So they were throwing candy. And >> I something that was cool about the event too is Colin Shower who we know is just so engaging and he walked he's told a scary story. He read a scary story but it was what was cool about it is the whole time he's telling the story he's walking in and out of the kids through the bleachers. So he just it was so well done. And to be able to get the interest and to be able to hold a high school audience like that. >> Quiet. >> Yes. That's a gift, you know. That's a gift

to pull off what he pulled off and it's it's a personality and hats off to him because that was that was a pretty cool I enjoyed that part of the >> So Scott Kar as Winnie the Pooh was pretty funny. >> Yes, he was. Like you said, all in all, it was just great event. >> Yeah, it was. That's all I have for that. Uh item 15 first reading and adopt adoption of governing board policy updates. Can we get a motion to approve? >> Second all I have to comment about 95. Okay. >> Okay. I mean you don't have to get it out but they completely eliminated the previous one. every single line was stretched out and they completely did a new one which is vastly better. Okay, it pretty much follows the gold standard

things that we use we have in the past recognized as students first in everything we do. Anyway, I like the new one way better than the old. So that's it. All right, all in favor I >> I All right. Uh item 16, resolution approving purchase of real property located at 41939 Fox Farm Road, Victoria Lake, California for use as district maintenance and operation facility. >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second. >> Okay. Um since it's a resolution, let's do a roll call vote, please. >> Board member F. >> I Eric, >> hi >> Roberts. >> Hi, >> Smart. >> Hi, >> Zamoya. >> Hi. >> So, >> anyone have any questions about that? >> We're exciting. >> Yeah, it's cool. >> It's exciting. Mount Mountain Mountain Transit is, if people have seen, they're building

a new facility behind Bonds and they purchased um what was Interiors and before Interiors, the Dodge dealership, and um they're vacating their old building. We have a need for for it and we're getting it for much less than it would cost for us to build it. So, it's it's exciting. Um, next, uh, item 17, government board member discussion on Assembly Bill 1390. You want to open that up? >> Sure. So, this was recently signed. Um, it goes in on January 1st, this new law. This is something on a very aged bill that hasn't been updated in 40 years or so or decades as far as the compensation for board members on what it looks like. Board members survey, you know, roughly you guys have been paid or any board members between about $240 a month

based on our enrollment. It's always based on enrollment currently >> if you attend all the meetings. >> If you attend Thank you, sir. [clears throat] It can be based on if you attend if you attend the meetings. Now, this is not something we have to do. This is something that that's just being offered. If we choose to do it into January, we would hit the anywhere. It's weird the way the ADA is, but we hit the pocket of between 1,000 and 10,000 students, which is mean the board member board members um could be paid up to $1,200 a month. Um where before it was limited to $240 a month, which is what the compensation was at before. uh we just wanted to bring it up that way it was open to discussion whether that was

something that the board wanted to do as we look into next year next January to put something different in place and just wanted to open up to board discussion whether that's something we wanted to change or not or leave it as it is but it does it it is a pretty age and inflation and everything else and the fact that the board's time and sometimes this is more time than we realize when it goes to expulsion hearings and close sessions. It's a lot and was a lot of boards. And >> I didn't see anything in the bill that mentioned whether everyone has to get the same amount or not. >> Does not. >> Do you know if you can get different amounts? >> It can. It doesn't say you can't. [laughter] >> I think I

should get all the money. The reason I ask is the spirit behind this is that there are people who would love to be on the board but have second jobs or they don't have the time and it would free it up for those people to be able to serve the board if there was a high amount. There's other people who don't need that money. So I mean in in the ideal world which doesn't exist it'd be great that those people who feel like they need that money could take that money and people who felt like they didn't take less. Another thought process. >> You can do that though. Like the first year I was on the board, I didn't take the dime. >> Yeah. So then you can do you can take whatever you want.

>> So then you'd have to adjust every month how much whether you want >> based on the dollar amounts that we have were that was the maximum at the time until January. That's been the maximum that we gave is 40, >> right? >> So, um, >> is there something where someone could come on and say, "I want 1,200 a month." And someone else could say, "I'm fine with the current level." It has to be a board. I think the the board it would still be a board decision itself [clears throat] to be written and the board would still have to vote on that with an understanding that yeah >> the other part of that too is you know and I've explained this in the past is you could take the 1,200 and it's very easy

to donate to different to club to sports facilities some of the money that you receive >> but I love the idea of the spirit because it is a commitment to be on the board you know um as far as time is concerned I could see that some people, you know, that would actually need that compensation uh for it. Another thought, too, is, you know, city council gets 500. We haven't this this amount hasn't changed in I don't know how many decades. This I think long before I got on the board. >> This has this division has not changed in 40 years. >> Yeah. Which means like it might be another 40 years before there's an opportunity to raise it. >> Well, no, we can raise it up to,200. >> We can go any >> at

any time. >> Right. So the decision does not have to be made tonight by any means or does not have to be made in January. It's just a consideration for the board to have a discussion at some point. You know, the it's a it's a commitment and it's a dedication to this community as far as what the board does. And I just, you know, Jess and I talk about this and you know, we talked about this in cabinet and I told I even said this when I had my podcast when I did a podcast. I mean we're in a unique situation in the fact that we're just and I know we do because we so many things that we do feel very fortunate in the manner which our board does we lean on our work

not just for the decision making for the final decision making and not just to vote yes on something I have I have a physicist I have a realtor I have you know previous military I have a previous teacher I have a business owner and what everybody brings to this table I'm not even A lot of people realize what impact [laughter] that does have on this entire district. And I mean that because it all has value. All of it brings value to this table. I've seen other boards operating. I've watched videos of other boards operating. And the value that I know that I can call on and the way you guys even look at the financials, all of it just has learned to depend on that those kind of pieces that we feel this board is

very valable. very to us. And >> I guess I disagree a little bit. >> Well, let's let's be clear because I always get this is my big fault is I throw out things. I don't advocate for any of this. I'm just I'm asking questions. Oh, >> you know, it's like is that possible? Because you guys might say, "Hey, that's a great idea." Apparently not. The [laughter] other the other one is, you know, you hedge the bet. And the other one is city council gets 500 and they just upped theirs what last year, two years ago. So they raised theirs a little bit. So if you want to match other agencies, that's what everybody look at it. See what other agencies get. I mean, yeah, I think DWP isn't 400 years ago. I mean, you know,

having the option, uh, I mean, I don't want $1,200 a month. Okay. And, you know, for the reasons that Paul raised that there could be somebody else who could be meaningful. Um, but that's a lot of money, okay? And I don't want to encourage someone to run just because they need $1,200 a month and they don't really care about kids. you want people on this board that really care about our students, care about our district, that students first in everything we do. Um, and there's the there's a balance and I don't know where it is, okay, but uh $1,200 sounds like a lot of money to me. And so I wouldn't want to go over the city council for sure. >> Sorry, we're at the lower end of that spectrum like like Mr. Mark has

said it's a wide range. We're in the 1,000 to 10,000. >> What's the What's the next one down? >> Um, so it goes So these are the ranges. Sorry. So it goes from 151 students to 1,000 students. That's up to $600 that a board member can get. We hit the next level of 1,00 to 10,000 goes to,200. 10,000 to 25,000 students when I say that. >> So I consider us in the first category 1 to 600. for a thousand students even that's >> we got 2,000 students. >> Yes sir. >> So let him continue. >> And just so you know just 10,000 to 25,000 would be $2,000 a month is what a board member could collect in California and any district from 25,000 students to 60,000 students. They can collect up to $3,700. >> So

we can consider anything in there. Now, you know, we can also look at, you know, we can also consider, like I said, the decision hasn't had to be made unless you the board felt like that they wanted to do that. >> Uh Chess and I can also talk to and to look at the other districts, even talking to other small school districts. Just curious going with this where where are they going with this? What kind of direction are they having with this? Where is, you know, where's Ram going to be with this? Where is the SER going to be with this? Just kind of curious to get a pulse. So I can get a pulse on that to see where everyone else is with it. If you like, I can do that. I can report

to the board on that. Um just wanted to make sure before January hit if you felt like that was something we wanted to put in place that the board had all the information. >> Yeah, I would just add that um you probably I mean and that's great information for us to have. But probably what's more relevant when you're looking to drop a pool in Big Bear is to look what the other agencies are. You know, city council, they get 500 for that and they have to be on several boards compensation closer to a thousand a month because the other boards have to be on. So, I think it's just worth looking at um what all the other boards are doing just so that we're competitive because the truth is um we we are competitive. I

brought this up I mean a couple years ago and um I think if you want to it's just like we want the you know most qualified people working in our school district we want the most qualified people sitting in our school board as well. So, I'm not running next year. So, um my my seat will be um up for someone else. But, um I just think if we're looking at >> we have to find a replacement. >> That's right. I've been told that somebody could >> but we'd have to look at really really I think what is happening here in in Big Bear because I think it would make a lot of sense for us to try to be competitive with what's happening. Um and and you don't have to I mean and the option

is you know you don't you maybe have a clause in you don't have to take um the stipen if you don't want to but I think just you know it is time it is everyone's time and everyone has all mentioned is in different financial situation and um I don't want someone running for for the compensation package either and I don't know how often people ask you know I don't know people who are running for election if they even know what they're going to get for compensation. But I just think it's probably something worth considering as we're moving forward. >> Just I can certainly gather up some more information. >> It's not just the money there. There's benefits that vary between different agencies and what the board gets and what they don't get. >> You have

to look at all that. >> Is that a hard how did they I mean in this is any other compensation? >> No. No other compensation is listed as far as part of this decision making. >> It's just a dollar amount based off pupils >> based off. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. I think it's been said, >> but I agree with you. >> All right. Uh, that was the last or are there any suggestions for future board meeting agendas?
