The order is 5:30. Um, would you please rise for a moment of silence? Ready, begin. To the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Okay. Item seven is a report of action taken in close session on 7A personnel, student personnel item 24-25-031. By unanimous vote, the student was expelled for the current semester plus one. Regarding item 7B, student personnel item 2425-032. Uh the student was also expelled by unanimous vote of the members present for the current semester plus one. Item eight, the honored Miss Bonnie South like to make a few comments. Um, I just came to say thank you to the board again for um our generous um contributing factor to health and welfare and our raises
and also thank you for the um sending um we had two people go to the um conference the CSEA aid conference which Ally was one of them and um she's here for another reason now. and just thank you for all you do for classified all year long. We do appreciate it. Um and it doesn't go unnoticed that um you are very supportive of the classified. We listen to horror stories all the time how there are school boards that don't support the classified personnel. But we just want to say thank you. And I'm here with my team, part of my team. Not all of them are here. Some are at games. Kimch and Lily Failen are at games with their children. And we have Becky Murphy who is my secretarian in negotiations. And Jenny Hollandba is
in my she's my lead negotiator back here, second lead. And um just thank you for everything you did for classify. That's why we So thank you. Thank you. You're a critical part of this organization. Okay. Item nine public comment. I have a card. I'll fill it up. Okay. Um, is this going to be the only speaker? Anyone else? Okay. Is it since we read this to you an hour ago? I forgot. I'm not going to go through it again. I assume you remember. I remember. Hi everyone. Okay, you know I went through grade school. Okay, pass great. So the sort of three minutes now right now. Y you gave it a paper on this uh boondoggle grand thing and it makes it worse. This paper it's transformative. Now who else said that? It was the
not the Bidens, but the Obamas who were going to transform the United States into a different type of system and they tried really hard and they're still working on it and so are a lot of other people in this country with school districts all over the country doing some dumb things. Another word in here, reimagine. Ah, where have I heard that before? A lot of the blue states. Reimagine the police department. That turned out really well, didn't it? People were murdered all over the place. probably like reimagining not having a border and let 20 million people in which hopefully we have a president that's going to take most of them out. But coming in, nobody complains. Take them out. Every little tiny judge is uh doing a lawsuit. So I'm hoping that gets straightened out
with the ninth circuit for God's sakes. with the Supreme Court like they did with the one lady in Maine who their uh she was an assembly or state representative was censured because she was against boys in racing with girls or swimming or anything. Well, that she had to go to the Supreme Court. Luckily, that was uh I think it was either 8 to 2, 8 to 1 or 7 to two. But that's what Trump's going to have to do. Fight for everyone. And I'm happy when he sends judges to jail or get arrested, uh representatives that break into some of the other places. So, I'm just I want to check you said there are absolutely no tampons in any of the boys bathrooms that you're not allowing any girls to have boys race against them.
You know, back in the 60s, Title N was hard fought for and now it seems like there's a lot of women that don't seem to care. Unbelievable. Also, you know, with some of these, I'm going to be looking into them. I got the list of the grants. You know, that like other schools have had drag queen things. I've had some just flat out stupid things. Thank you. I wanted 9 minutes. Sorry. Okay. I don't have any other cards. We move on to the consent calendar. like anyone like to remove anything from the consent calendar. Hearing none. Do I have a motion? So move. All in favor signify by saying I oppose. No. It's unanimous. Nothing was removed from the consent calendar. So Mr. Marquez, employee announcements. Excellent. Okay. We have a few tonight. We're really
excited. Our first one at Baker Middle School. We're hiring a new attendance group because Donna has retired and we thank Donna for everything she's done for Baker Middle School. She's done a fantastic job and I think the middle school is going to be is very excited and I think they're very lucky to have her. I think it was a perfect choice for that school. She's going to be wonderful with the kids and the staff and I think everyone's really excited about this school. So congratulations Ally. We're very proud. And a one to one aid at Northshore
for Mod Seabir is Melanie Vasquez here. Okay. Uh Melanie was previously at a new duty aid at Baldwin Lane and has spent the last two years working in the mod severe special education classes at Rim Unified School District. We are excited to have her experience and back with Fair Valley. So we're excited for her as well. On the certificated side of it, we have some teacher announcements which is very exciting. Our first one, she's here and we're gonna go ahead and make her stand up just to um Alyssa Jola. Alyssa will be a new teacher at Baldwin Lane Elementary. Um we are excited to welcome Alyssa, a former graduate of Big Bear High School to our team. Alyssa has completed all grade level compet completed all grade levels in Bear Valley and currently an instructional
aid at Baldin Lane. Uh we are thrilled to have her join our new as our newest teacher and look forward to the positive impact she will undoubtedly bring. Um this is really exciting. When I came to Baldwin and I realized Alyssa was there and I came to visit and she when she told me she had she did have her four-year degree and what she wanted she told me she wanted to be a teacher. Said well let's make that happen. Um she is a gift you know there's just people that just a natural gift for teaching and to watch her and to talk to her and this is very exciting. I know her family is here to watch introduce everybody with introduce everyone that's with you tonight. This is my boyfriend Anthony. And then I have
my mother Gretchen and my wonderful father dad Mike. I almost said wonderful father dad Mike. So this is exciting. U my congression congratulations on having such a wonderful wonderful daughter. We are extremely proud and thank you for all the work you put into her because we get to benefit from that students get to benefit from her. So thank you once again. Welcome Melissa. Great. Okay. Laura No, she's not going back. No. Okay, that's okay. So, history and social science teacher at Big Bear High School. Uh we are uh excited to have Laura Bower. We are thrilled to welcome back Laura Bower back to Unified School District, Bear Valley Unified. Uh Laura previously served as a dedicated substitute teaching during the 2021-22 school year and is now returning with even more experience and passion for education.
Currently pursuing her master's in education, Laura is currently a history teacher and volleyball coach at Rim of the World Unified School District. Uh her teaching philosophy centers on helping students develop strong historical thinking and skills, connect classroom content to real world issues, and grow into informed critical participants in global society. Welcome back, Laura. I know everyone is excited to have her. Um I know they've been trying to make this happen, so we're excited. We're getting Brian. We're getting her obviously an A. We'll take everybody. No shame in it. So give a hand for Laura just Okay. And our last one, uh, Christopher Upton. Oh, Chris is here. Excellent. Really glad you're here. I only talk to you by phone. So, um, Chris Upton, this is exciting. He is our district-wide speech language pathologist. If you
didn't know, finding a district, um, speech language pathologist is basically finding a unicorn sometimes unicorn. And we are excited to have him. Uh we are pleased to welcome Chris, a California state licensed speech language pathologist to the BBUSD team. With over a decade of experience in the field, Chris brings a wealth of knowledge into diagnosing and developing individualized treatment programs for children with language delays and disorders. Most recently serving in the Los Angeles Unified School District. He has a strong background in setting specific measurable goals to specific to support pediatric communication development. We're thrilled to have Chris aboard. We are very lucky. Chris, welcome. Thank you. you here? Just me. Just me. Okay. Well, welcome. Well, welcome. Now you take questions from the board. Where did you go to school? I went to Cal State
Northridge. Okay. And you grew up in Southern California? I Yes, I did. And what's your interest in Big Bear other than um You know what? I I relocated to Lake Arrowhead in March. and um I've been commuting to LA, so it's nice to be up in the mountains finally, just finishing out the next few weeks. I grew up coming to the resorts here and I have a lot of good memories here and uh I'm very excited to be with the team. Very grateful to be able to work with the families here. So, thank you for having me. We're excited. Thank you very much. There seems to be a trend of poaching from the women picking up. Yeah, exactly. No shame at all. We took Brian. We're taking everybody with Brian along inviting him to the
party. That's great. Hey, we have board member comments and calendar. Okay. Okay. uh real quick because she's in the audience. I want to make sure to acknowledge I talked about this last time that Becky um was the classified employee correct classified employee of the year for our of our of our region and she got she was invited to the what to the baseball games baseball game. Did you get to throw the pitch? No, but I got to stand behind the girl that did Oh yeah, that's probably better. [Applause] It's much further than you think. We talked about you. I mentioned you last time and because you're in the audience, I want to uh recognize how wonderful you are and how lucky we are to have you, Becky. So, congratulations. Uh thank you. Okay. Went to
the Mahalo Mahalo Awards for this weekend. Went there and um I was very very fortunate enough. You know, you're it's always such an honor to be one of the distinguished educators. This is the last group of students that know me as a teacher in Bear Valley this these 12 great students. So it was very nice. One of the students made Petra Sally. But um the whole evening is just such it really is a wonderful evening that Mahalo that we do. Um Steve did not Steve Mahalo didn't join us but this was not said better but it was amazing what they did because if you could see the video I would love you guys to see the video. They did a video of Steve Mahalo talking about his history, talking about his upbringing, talking about Big
Bear, how he made it to the point he's at. And it gave things I had no idea about. uh Mr. and it was really a great start to the evening as far as what he's accomplished and the foundation he's created with Bear Valley and why he continues to support Bear Valley. Um it was just it was a wonderful evening. Congratulations to all the students that got recognized. There was a ton of money given away and just to the teachers that recognized classified staff, everybody there. It was wonderful. So that was a great event and many got recognized as well. Yeah, that's um the powderpuff game. I got to go to the powderpuff game. That was a great time. Madison Walker and Colin Shower, the announcers. That was funny all night long. They did a great
job with that. Both teams did a great job. That was a lot of fun. I have a school visit still going on with me. I'm still going out to visit schools. And then we have TK enrollment. We're making a really big push right now for our TK enrollment because for TK and K, before we used to have just um K to worry about the the variable, the unknown of how many kinders were coming in. Now we have TK and K coming in trying to figure out to make sure we have enough teachers, all those things. And we're trying to make sure everybody registers as early as possible. Anybody with kids out there, making sure you're registering so we can make sure we're staffed appropriately. That's one of our challenges coming into the new year to
make sure we're all staffed. And that's something Miss Drake and I are really trying to focus on right now to make sure we have because we're afraid at the last minute have to add teachers. We don't want to be there. So we're really making the push for that. Otherwise, that's it. Okay. Governor reports to start. I just want to mention that uh I found out this week from Mr. Shedder that our middle school sports teams were voted uh the for the sportsmanship award for the entire uh district that they play in. There's how many schools? 22 schools. 22 schools. They were voted by all the other coaches. The number one school apparently by far. Second place was way down the list. almost unanimous or was unanimous to every single coach in the whole entire league
voted that Fear had the best sportsmanship. So that was something really great about Yeah, I went to the Mahel um ceremony as well. Um and it was I haven't been in several years. Um, I actually think Steve did it better in person, but uh, no, it was interesting to hear who they were picking for the distinguished educator in their life. Very few elementary teachers. So, Mr. Marquez was a standout in that regard. Um, there seemed to be a heavy emphasis on English teachers and coaches. uh which anyway I I found it was it was really interesting to listen to what the kids had to say and why they were choosing and and what the it was not just here's the money thank you it was uh much more than that so I enjoyed it okay
moving on to cabinet reports the annual comprehensive counseling plan for the 2526 year staff have anything they want to add to the this presentation no it's just uh we update the uh comprehensive of the council plan annually with the data that we've gathered from this year and making any corrections or adjustments that we need as need a motion to approve. So move second. Okay. All in favor signify by saying I. I post no. It is unanimous. Now we're moving on to item 14, the administrative report. The first item is the public hearing on the AB1200 disclosure for the collective bargaining agreement uh with CSCA. Um, there's no nobody's put in any cards. I will open the public hearing. Does anybody have anything they would want to say? Seeing none, we'll close the public hearing. Uh,
you're going to hear this a lot, so just sit down. Um, close the public hearing and item B is to approve the AB1200 disclosures for the collecting bargain agreement. This is separate from the agreement itself. I need a motion to approve. Second. Okay. All in favor signify by saying I oppose. No. It's unanimous. Now the item C is the first reading and adoption of the board policy and administrative regulation 0450 relating to the comprehensive safety plan. So move second. Any discussion? Any questions? No. All in favor signify by saying I I oppose. No. It's unanimous. Item 15. We have the revised and expanded learning the elap the expanded learning opportunities program plan. Again, we made some minor modifications to that plan. Um they're in the report. Do I have a motion to approve? Any questions
on on those? No. Second. Okay. All in favor signify by saying I no. It is unanimous. So now we move on to 16. We have another public hearing. This time it's on the same contract, but this is a different This is not on the disclosure. This is on the actual contract. Yes, we have to do this. Okay. So, I'll open the public hearing and public comment on the tenative agreement between the district and the classified bargaining unit. Does anyone have anything they would like to say? Hearing none, we'll close the public hearing. So, now we can move on to approve the tenative agreement with the Bear Valley School District classified bargaining unit. Do I have a motion to approve? So second. Okay. Any further discussion? All in favor signify by saying I. I. No. It
is unanimous. [Music] Okay. Anyone got through that pretty fast. Any any suggestions for future board meetings? Okay. We're a train.
