call the meeting to order may get a motion to adopt the agenda please move all in favor none oppose um please stand for a moment of silence and the pl Allegiance right hand over your heart ready begin i al to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which stands one nation under God indivisible with liy and justice for all all right uh item four is student representative report but since there was no school today the students aren't here so we're going to move to item five the hearing section and we have some public comment cards so before you guys can comment I'm a slow reader I'm sorry I've got to read a lot sorry this communication item is included on the agenda of each regular board meeting to provide

an opportunity for citizens to make suggestions or identify concerns about matters affecting the district or to suggest an item to be scheduled for a future agent the president invites anyone wishing to address the governing board on any item that is within the subject matter jurisdiction of the governing board to do so at this time um you guys provided your your speaking card so I won't read that part unless otherwise approved by the governing board the total time allotted to each person who speaks will be 3 minutes um in cases of numerous requests then we can then we can have you select the repr if that's not going be the case here uh members of the governing board can only take action on items listed on the agenda and may not comment on the Public's comments

however we can ask for clarification uh governing board members May seek clarification or refer specific concerns to District staff for appropriate attention no person has granted any privilege by the governing board to make statements which may be considered defamatory or other Wise actionable by other persons including District officers and employes complaints against employees will normally be heard in closed session and the district's complaint procedure should be followed before discussion with governing board all charges or complaints against employees shall be submitted to the governing board under the provisions of governing board policy CF 1312 complaints concerning School person speakers are cautioned that under California law no person is immune from liability for making intentionally false or defamatory statements regarding any person simply because those comments are made at a public these procedures are not designed to

rest restrict public criticism of policies so babies criticizing me procedures programs or Services of the district or the acts or omissions of the government legal legal references so several education codes so now that you read that um M Carrie the floor is yours I just want to First say just I I know many of you I don't know all of you and just how much I appreciate all of you and how hard that you work and how hard this job is and all the negotiations we had Manny and I had a goodu a minute ago about that everything is a negotiation isn't it so what I'm here today is just to express concerned um publicly about the time that our children have Miss schooled for this fire so I am not upset that we had

a fire and I'm not upset that we were out of school but what I may say to you as the board I want you to he is that we have to have a better plan for these kids to be able to make it up so have big kids now I have two kids in the high school I have one in the middle school and this is what happens is that they miss and then they come back and my boys are just beside themselves because they're being shoved information we have to get this all in we have to or it's being truncated or something we're not here for time we're here to learn and that that's our primary focus for our kids to be here and so um we got to come up with a better

plan and I understand that right now we might not be able to do much but in the future some sort of waiver I me we got kids we got kids in AP classes are they going to figure this out and be ready for these for these tests and whatnot so in the future what can we do to plan for this so I've been here for five years I've been through Three Fires the pandemic and snow andedon and the day after I've already told Manny this years ago the day they came back after seddon my son was so worried you were going to have a quiz and I said I'm not have quiz in the day we come back soon and he had a quiz the day he came back after that is that an appropriate

use of instruction to is that is that something that we would do to our children was almost like a punishment like you should have been studying when we were off I don't know so may I say I'm the first to come and say hey I think we could do better on this I'm also the first to volunteer so if we want a committee or sort of call to say how can we creatively do something please call me and I would love to help ideas off the top of our head we have one-on-one technology for a lot of our kids could we get them on technology at some point to be able to go back to kind of pandemic and get them learning somehow do we do something with a calendar we have two weeks in

the fall and two weeks in the spring that first week is guaranteed in that second week is not for something like this just just ideas I I don't know and I know this is complicated we have um we have uh the teachers union we have it's so complicated I understand that that they're here to service us what can we do to make this happen um the loss of instruction time is very very concerning to me and I want my kids and I appreciate all of you and I hate to say anything negative at all in public and thank you for all the you can't comment you can I mean obviously those are concerns I think we all have it's absolutely concerns that we all have and I I'm glad she did reference as far as

like testing I'd like to address that for a second the fact that yeah that's we did have that conversation before and we had that conversation with principal look we got to put up benchmarks not coming back and having students do benchmarks like that um we can't that's not fair okay things like that now we look at how we make it up now she honestly brings up a good point as far as one of the things that's in place right now now when we start to develop this plan it's called The Learning continuity plan and that's actually going into law as of next school year with that that the learning commity plan is exactly what Miss corner is referencing and it's the fact that once you're out five it's a little further extensive though but it

it goes along with that that it says once you're out 5 days you have to have a plan okay you have to publish a plan that states now this doesn't go into effect until next year but if you have to publish a plan that states what it is your plan is should you be out more time and then once it has to be implemented on the 10th day and it's to prevent things like the co or let's say if God forbid this fire for any reason became worse and we're out longer a period of time we have to have a plan in place on how we're going to teach students continue BR continuity to continue to teach them in these cases so Mr marz you said that it's a rule of 5 days is there

any re that's probably the minimum right yes is there any reason we can't make it 3 days not at all I did we if we did board I imagine we can do something they're saying that's what the that's a minimum of what the requirement is as far as state of California is concerned but we can absolutely put something in BO policy and we were talking about that as that staff say we were actually because we we the moment we get through one we thought we were through it you know when we got through the first part we started reflecting okay how do we react soon we have to tell parents the moment they go out to be a go hey no school please remember if you leave the mountain I I know it's hard because

when you're in a crisis moment that you say hey take Chromebooks with you um that's the hard part um or that the element the heartart becomes elementary school but yes that's exactly what's being examined right now we actually have the shell of the program that we started to develop uh that me DR had started to develop to look at that I had them look into this because let's start getting it going now is this fresh in our head what does it look like and it's a it's a plan that has to be adopted by the board it's basically an updated plan of what the co plan look like so it has to be updated a little bit more because Co had to do with all these testing and all these other things right now this

is much different this is for all these other emergencies you're right Mr Robert so we can look at it as as when the board adopts to say okay that's great the state says five days we're saying three if that's something the board chose to do we can absolutely do that the hard it's easy to the hard part about the program is it's easy to adapt to secondary that can adapted in a hot second on a secondary because of the fact they all have Chromebooks and we and they all have classroom the more challenging part would be how and that's what the an trying to investigate is how we address Elementary that's a little bit more challenging they are not distributed so we don't never know exactly how long're going to go out so the distribution

of Chromebooks becomes a little bit more challenging that so that's anyway back again to it is something we're examining I hear what you're saying but at the same time we we lost less days during than we did for this fire we our kids went out on like the 14th they missed one day then it was spring break they went back to school the difference virtually yes the difference would be that there is no evacuation so no we only had warning but some people leave on a warning so then we have to we knew everyone was still in town with Co really it was a little different situation because of the fact everyone was still here everyone was still accessible that we were able to get Chromebooks handed out we were able to get Chromebooks get

packets whatever it is we had to do in this situation when you have an emergency situation whether it be snow whether it be a blood we're asking people to come out and collect stuff we had to have people come out and collect them we had to have teachers on site so when we were in a warning or God forbid a mandatory evacuation like we are in the situation right now still with our angelous Oak families that means how do we get them to come back in collect to doos and get it going you're right but we have to find a different way whether it's even do we have everyone's mail start contacting mailing we're trying to problem solve that right now how we do it quicker how we because the problem is when when fires

hit this particular emergency we don't know our family dispersed to so one other point that it's been my observation of having kids in uh the high school now that Terry's exactly right that when they came back after being out 5 days at least one of my kids had to make up two weeks worth of work make up that time and do that week's worth of work and maybe it's a policy we need to look at that you know if they're out that okay we've got to find a better way to do it rather than slamming the kids with hey you missed all this and now you got to make it up I think there's a way we can look at it that the academic instruction can still be presented so they have the information however

bogged them down with additional assignments I think that gets into a little bit of a gray area that's we're doubling up their assignments there's a way we could probably still do academic instruction to introduce the assignment and give the information without maybe requiring all that extra work and Del up their work because out I understand that then you're getting in the chil of the teacher you know that's their job and that's and I think that's what has to be examined as far as the truth is we we keep Hing this more and more and more and one of the things we're examining too is we have to there a lot of good points and one of the points is we've already had this discussion a little bit as the staff the concept of right now

we have five days that we can make up five days that will be made up three days that will not be made cannot be made up with fil j13 and everything else with the state to make sure we're okay but it doesn't do anything for academic destruction that's just a financial issue and then we're not even in snow yet we are not even into winter yet yeah this is not so called snow days for a reason yes exact well they're not even called snow days anymore they're called emergency days for exactly this reason because we keep hitting emergency days so we do need to acknowledge the fact that I think as we and I kind of did crap my leadership team and everyone that when we re exam we already have the calendar for the

next school year the 25 26 and we would have to completely revisit that one to be honest and we have to look at that if we were going to make a change but because that one's already negotiated and done it would be for the next year or renegotiate this one if the board Department would ask us to do that we could to add more snow days in there's a lot of movie pieces a lot of movie pieces that I'm sure you know it's your job to bring us recommendations or to agenda guys it for a discussion about all those pieces to get dire and trust me this is all the discussions we had the moment we re-evaluated when we were out the first time we revalued with my leadership team and go okay we got

to we got to look at all this again we have to revisit all this not now not later but now may I ask a question during this comment time as well from the i i this is not what I was here for but um my question is calire has a joint response team with local fire with national forest and with the sheriff's department is the school board a part of that joint response team do you have a representative there to get information on how they're negotiating evacuation statuses we don't so we don't have a piece in that what we have a piece is we have a wonderful team here in the our local fire department keeps us informed they keep us informed on the situation at 1:00 meetings they're great they stopped them and then

they reestablished them of yesterday and today to have these 1:00 me where they keep us informed of all the information they can possibly do however like I said that joint Response Team all those decisions are made at a higher level even beyond our local fire department so those come from a higher up that that have way more information than we have in the moment yeah they I it's my understanding that they negotiate those potential evacuations much further in advance than those evacuations actually occur and that the school district would greatly benefit from being privy to that information before evacuations are noticed yes now sometimes we do get a warning but but honestly normally it's very hard for them to get information we're not on that team right okay but we are part of a couple

different organizations that try to get us information as quickly as we possibly can and they've been great about that but really their their concern is so much just keeping people safe you know as far as how it works their first inclination to safety not necessarily kids in school is keeping the community safe I can just Chim into I'm in the news business here and when things are happening so quickly decisions are being made um not really on the fly but but they it it's just there's so much going down at the same time it's really really difficult for the chain of communication to be passed along oh sometimes they'll be you know they'll make a decision in the morning that we're going to make this announcement in 3 hours and kind of see how things

progress between now and then if we're going to change our mind so it's really really difficult to get any um with very much advanced notice to put out to the STA right so we theenda at some point yes the agenda I would like to put on the agenda as far as the explanation a further explanation as far as what the learning continuity plan looks like we won't have that again but as far as for you have for the board to have an understanding of what the requirements of that are and maybe so you we start making a decision together and have a discussion as far as do we want to make it different than the five days five five and 10 days five days so once again just make sure five days introduction I mean

just publish it 10 days implementation all right Mr Caleb keth your uh thank you for your time tonight my name is k Keith I'm a resident of sugar I've lived in big here for the last five years I'm here to ask the board to consider making the recently built uh traffic F facilities in high school available to some sort of scheduled Public Access think there's a small rural community that emphasizes outdoor recreation I'm somebody who's utilized basically as much after Recreation opportunities as big be provides I train for competitive mountain bike and gravel racing up here and I also snowboard as many days as seemingly possible at the two Resorts by myself with my children um as well but it's somebody who's recreated up here over the past couple years uh I have to point

out there are many ways in which outdo Recreation and Big Bear uh is not always straight forward simple safe or free and it provides there's a lot of barriers to entry people who are seasoned athletes looking to particular types of structured training as and even greater barriers to people just starting uh to try to get fit or to improve their physical or mental Fitness um and we have those challenges because we're a small world Mountain community and we're missing facilities that a lot of normal municipalities would have I think some of the most flaring ones are access to a public pool facility and then also things like public traffic uh facilities um I think the school board and school district has an opportunity to fill one of these massive holes by scheduling some Public Access

hours of the newly built uh facilities access there would be safe and free you wouldn't be sharing those facilities with Motor Vehicles bikes and the increasing number of e bikes that use some of the other facilities around and many of the National Forest Trails that can be used provide different types of challenges while it's beautiful and we're here for the mountains the mountains mean irregular terrain sometimes technical terrain to stop newcomers from getting into particular activities and make it difficult or impossible to train in particular ways uh so the high level training I do requires certain type of steady state training or interval training that at this moment you're forced to do in places where you share with other vehicles because there's nothing that is a controlled measured environment that's away from that traffic there

are some things that have greatly improved and be there since last time here like outline P path but again that's a shared facility can be a danger to new Runners and more people who are on it especially if you're trying to do it for organized Fitness activities and so yeah I would love to see the school uh District uh work with the public to provide this sort of safe and free access to Recreation via uh the track I know that there could be some complication with that um I've done some research on how other municipalities and school districts uh handle this most commonly it's through community colleges because of security concerns with um schools but in communities where that's not available Middle School and High School tracks are often utilized um in a way that

while requiring a little bit of work from the school or maybe an athletic department or the custodian departments at the schools uh can be organized when children are not in school and earlier practices and games are not there something like reoccurring days during the week or during the month with limited hours and things like that that I think would be an amazing service to this community and as a as a public service and good uh I think it'd be in the best interest of the school district and the greater we're looking into all that so it's so brand new it's like a newborn baby we got here and with this thing that we spent a lot of H student funding on and everything else that we're so excited about it that I think we uh

we want to make sure we protect it we're looking into all that and we want to make sure we we're looking out for the care of the facility like I said we're still we're looking at because we've already had people contact us as far as can we use the facility for some kind of training you know already had a pretty big School contact us we're like we're putting even them off going we need a minute to figure out what we even have in front of us what the maintenance is going to look like everything before we when I said that I didn't expect a respons sorry you're looking at me like talk now I was going to say just just before I forget that there was at one point in time where there was talk

about potential partnership with parks and R yeah I I understand that uh these kinds of things take uh time and honestly a lot of coordination because you are potentially talking about meting an employee who's available to lock or unlock a facility or or there could be concerns of uh vandalism and things like that so I know it's a brand new facility which is of the reasons I wanted to come because one of the things that happens in small communities like this is if Nobody Does it you just get in the habit of it being closed and then it's just close forever and the barriers to making that open just get thicker and thicker um and so I think it while it's new is the best time to come up with a plan you know I

have to say that Jess is so much harder to read than when oh it's not as hard as you think what you Jess is in charge of risk management attorneys they get the final say yeah all right no more public comments next is item six consent calendar so all in favor no items removed from the consent calendar but an item from the consent calendar is item eight the recognition section for fa Val electric service andate thank you very much we have a represent from Elric only only one left hi my name is Tina and I presenting uh be electric tonight um we were able to come up with a plan to give the district um a little bit of money um we received a small Grant and we are requesting that trees be planted um

if were up to me I would love to say the stadium but really it's it's up to you guys um the trees would be most needed so $2500 will go towards that and then um last year we started collecting money from the employees um it just an incentive to be able to donate it somewhere and this year we've chosen to also donate $965 um to you guys to really use what you need for it's small but it was it was several of us employees ping together and wan to give you hit it right on time right as I know we're looking at landscaping that's our next thing we're looking at is landscaping for not just that high school that's really appreciate that even the 900 looking at that you know there's a lot of things

that can go towards Little Things even we have that it's always funny to find little funding for those things that are so important to the kids and the teachers in the community that uh we are greatly appreciative to have a so fortunate to have a support well we appreciate SCH the district and what you are doing for kids I had two kids I had one child that graduated you know went all through school and graduated last year I had one that almost made it um that he moved his junior year to UT with family but I've grown up up here graduated my parents graduated from here so I just love seeing all the Improvement the stadium is very exciting have you gotten up there Friday you're going to love it Friday Friday so is that

happening Friday let's jump to superintendent report yeah it's it's exciting and I I think what I love about that is even just donated the money says every you know we go that the everyone wants to be a part of something special to acknowledge the fact that what has been accomplished there is genuinely something special and the fact that very Valley electri wants to be a part of that it's just thank everyone who helped to donate yeah that's great very people are thinking about it thank you tin you're welcome so M will we discuss okay that's bye Tina no for sure I was just lost Tina and I graduated that's awesome all right uh item nine announcements okay so we have a couple classified staff I don't see anybody else in the audience so I don't

think they're here but it's always hard to get new8 so we have a new new Bal Lane Elementary uh Angel tap Angel has children in the district and they excided to help to ensure safety in our schools so we're excited to have Angel um also a new Duty a at B Lane Elementary Natalie Z brano Natalie enjoys working with students and will be a great addition to the B playing team I think every time we get this I think that having more Duty Aid really help help protect the Integrity of the school as a whole as far as Behavior down there going be wonderful so we're very excited to all that's it that's it that's just two well you might as well roll into superintendent okay absolutely um well we're happy to announce that we're

going back to school tomorrow as all of you know that's that was really exciting uh once again we did that like I mentioned before we had the 1:00 meeting it was a much better meeting than the day before I think everybody was just a little shy as far as what had happened on Sunday and then what have happened on the fire the 38 and it was a much more confident feel at this afternoon's meeting at the 1:00 meeting with uh with the fire department but once again I wanted to thank the fire department has done a great job as far as once we realize what was happened to right away when the fire kicked up they instantly contacted okay we need to get these meetings going again we need to get everyone informed all the

community leaders as much as we can to keep them in for so um H shout out to Chief Rogers um um assistant chief Wagner who did a great job communicating with us letting us know what's happening that was extremely extremely helpful and it was a bummer to be out it really really was it was not with especially this week minimum days conferences it it hurt a little bit but I got to give a shout out as well to to the teachers um to the elementary and middle school teachers a lot of them were able to continue to have conferences and do them virtually they ask me virtually a lot of parents for game I know they were still I know they're probably still working now some of them trying to get the conferences in as

many as they can still getting we are still making the requirement with the teachers that yeah we still need to have conferences we still need to have conversations some of them will happen after October break because unfortunately we're not on October break in just a couple days here so we are making asking the teachers to do that so we really thank them for trying to kick in and making sure to get parents with as much information as possible so we really appreciate all the teachers and everyone done that um also like I said the fourth We are continuing with the game I was out there thisno afternoon uh to walk in a little bit to look at what our ceremony would look like those kind of things it will be at 6:00 because we will

not have a JB game okay so we that's just kind of come up we will not have a JB game so we're going to we were so reluctant to over advertise it again we were waiting until we got back so now uh Laur and I will make sure to get make sure all the notices go out to any of the guests we were inviting that it's at 6 o' we're able to move things around a little bit because a JB game supposed to happen on Saturday there was a referee issues things like that they have to change things around so we have the the just the game will happen on Friday night Friday at 6 Friday at and then there might be a JB game the next day Saturday yes during the day during the

day yes on the field on the field on the field yes so we'll do the the ceremony will only take what we're looking at is probably only about between 6 and 6:15 15 20 minutes at the most we want to get off the field because those boys need their hold get in the moment time um but what we have set up and we organizing with gri because with Coach Griff because he has a certain process he goes through and we don't want to interrupt that process but I think he's just as excited as we are I think it was it was fun to be out there today to see everything everything's in place fenes are up everything's good to go scoreboards working scoreboard oh I looked at that today that is amazing yeah poor we

need to we need to all thank Hunter Nai for what he's going to go through for the next 24 hours 24 or 48 hours I have a 7:00 meeting with hunter in the morning uh he's got a video to and he is gifted at that we are going to play a video on the board that he's gifted at and that's his skill that's what he did in college so plus uh also they I will'll send you out the new time for this because there's a new time I believe there are students still moving forward with an assembly um for the students because we want all the students not every student will go to we want all the students to appreciate that field so we're going to they're going to do their pep assembly they're going

to do it on the field get all the kids in the stands and do the pep assembly they're going to try take a picture on the field do a couple things out there during the day so we'll make sure that we get an invite to you guys once we find out because I know they were talking a little bit was be morning or after Sunday as we're trying to get back into school okay so make sure take time away from any that educational opportunities I know educational opportunities history I know it's history and it's I think everyone is I think every the excitement's coming more and more even when I was down there on that field it's coming more and more you hear the sound out of the speakers you see the board going by

it's it's what could go [Laughter] wrong but everybody just excited to do that are those really Co muss yes they all of them wer working pretty soon I think that's pretty fascinating the way those muscle way they really don't interrupt too much surrounding areas man they are so focused in on that fi that is makes it Glow which is cool our Dark Skies compli yeah is that that's a term I'm not kidding yeah I got a letter from someone uh with a newspaper article asking if it was dark SK but they had no address or no way to contact them back to say it was but that's first time i' ever heard that so and I would yeah exactly I would like to get one she will be out there uh Dr I Rosado will

be out there with us and Dr Suzuki will be out there with us and um Wanted to let you guys know that also being out there out there with us is we really want to pay our tributes to M and that's going be part of this process tributes to so right there Teddy Teddy Ted as long as we can still do I gota make sure I contact her tomorrow the only yes Mr uh Mr Hamilton was helping me he's uh friends with her so wanted to make sure that they were going to still be able to organize that because I think it's important they will be on the field with us because I think it's important to acknowledge everything when I read the whole article on and who he was and who Safford mender was

I think it's important to recognize the transfer of you know we're obviously we're not calling it mender this is biger High School stadium however I think it's important there's a history there that needs to be acknowledged and appreciated for what we could have namings for theost sponsor the bathroom put your name on awesome hey what is what is it your number two is my number one priority we're all laughing but I got a call two years ago okay from an Alum who said that I should call Coach griffus not Griff Griffith I mean no you're talking he died the football coach it's um gford gford yes gford okay that he was organizing a group of former players and they wanted to see what they could do okay to help potentially sponsor a restaurant really yes

and I didn't act on it right away and I feel so guilty about that but uh you know a few weeks after getting the call I sent him an email and i' never heard anything back next away oh no and tried and tried to get a hold of his he I talked to various people in Redlands who knew him gave me you know his daughter and his none of them would um to see if I could get the list of people that he was organizing I would love that if we could perhaps organize them ourselves but I never got anything back it's it's interesting how many people are acknowledging and genuinely excited about this all these people that have played football or play the sport you know uh to play the sport to see kids

running on that field on that track is something I know because I was joking with har hor a little bit about that earlier she ran she she ran on it when she was running with the kids one day and she said she was I felt like an Olympic champion out there I felt like I was faster you know it's it's a different feel you see a confidence you when you see the runners out there it's just any you know it' be nice if we can involve the sugar homeowners association at some point cuz I know that you know we had talked about engaging them in the past and I think that ball might have been dropped a little bit since it's part of their Community yeah so I don't know if maybe a future game

that like get sugar president get it free or the association just to show appreciation them so they can get in and see it I enjoy it it's part of their Community now as you can see you know I EX on my on my super rep just so you know we are starting I have I am starting a superintendent student advisory we haven't done that in a lot of years so I I've got all the names I've got about it's going to be anywhere between 16 and 20 students from all 9th through 12th grade to meet with me and I'll meet with them probably I'd like to meet with them once a month and trying to figure out a day what's going to work with them uh team was great had them write a little a

little why they wanted to be a part of it so was exciting we got quite a few students that want to be a part of it want to have some input to say about what we do and how we operate as a district I'm assuming there's a diverse selection of students from do you know what thank you for saying that I specifically requested that I said I'm not looking for you know of course I want my students that are involved in sports and ASB and all that you want that but then I want the students I need I need to make sure I have e representative I need to make sure different groups of people all those things I need all those different students that might be struggleing students that might be struggling or have

struggled in the past or whatever it might be with it's social emotional academic all those things to making we're add all same thing I asked out of the superintendent parent advisory I asked for someone that maybe had their student at some point and we needed everybody in uh governing Bo member reports okay Kathy well I just Tina wait left but I just want to say um how much I appreciate that bar Electric service and to the employees kicked in their own money to u to donate to the school district so I but I'd like to see that you know that recognize with plaque like we have done in the past and probably two one for Corporation want for the employees but um but also if we do purchase trees and you know if you can

we should have a little plaque at one of the trees you see them you know at City Hall of par in different places just to acknowledge that they're not just put in there without the acknowledgement that they you know have uh last Saturday I was able to attend the JB volleyball tournament that Big Bear hosted at the gymnasium and really cool event uh because my back's getting old I was standing in the corner and I actually a lot of parents started talking to me from other schools and they talked about how great the tournament was how welcoming everyone was and how nice it was to go somewhere different up in the mountains uh to the event and I think that that they put on a good tournament and made pig look really good there a

lot and the kids were blown away a lot of them had never been up the hill before seeing the mountains and the trees and the forest fire and you know all that exciting stuff but no they the kids were great they were they were really Jazz being up here and the facility I remember Linda mentioning that that that facility is extremely rare to have two gyms back to back right there and when you go through and actually walk the entire perimeter during the game you usually get stuck on the one side by the bleachers and watch the game in front of when you walk the whole thing it's great you know how many people it fits and how much you can have going on at once and it really is interesting because it's only newer

schools that are capable of doing that normally we just happen to have when we did that because I've looked at that before other schools will add an additional gym but only it's only the newer Shadow h one of the rare ones I've seen that have that double thing double giant gy thing so we're unique we are unique in that and the schools were in pristine condition I mean they look great coming in there I mean the floors is just waxed everything is super clean the bathrooms I mean everything look great out there it's good representation of our his than I talked to a the principal at the high school and just in chitchatting asked her what's her biggest fundraiser and she said Bank sales I'm surpris going to say surprised in Hoya that would be

the number one she said the parents are super into it I think you have to list all the ingredients when you sell remember the fake sale rules that in I think you're you're making my makeing my person TT over here to have everything yeah yeah she's L right now's open it to the public they they do it with parents pick up the kids and then they do it with the kids and then they do it um certain weekends one weekend a month and and they make wow so I'm sort of surprised I just never thought that that would be should there selling $100 cookies of I know know between student and if it was the booster clubs selling to the [Music] public well but they're selling packaged stuff not homemade stuff see what they're doing

it sounds like probably an established big event that probably they do every year that they that's been a tradition they probably have a work around where the school is not liable it's the the parent group or something that's non-school associated because that could get she said it was the number one she didn't say how much they name 52 I tell you the the the biggest fundraiser that we would do every year and the parents said Thank you thank you thank you and it was Ron Do's idea we team talk is we started the year with a no bake sale we sent home a letter saying we can ask you every month to bake cookies and have to go to the store and buy buy this stuff and bring him in or you can just give

us 20 bucks right now or 100 bucks right now what do you want to do come piling in say thank you some of the biggest fundraisers are the ones that take some of the sometimes yeah I know ridiculous am off like rubber deck oh yeah yeah yeah made like 14,000 things parents just donate you know that's what it comes about yeah can I just I don't need more stuff I don't need and don't ask me repeatedly the school we were at at the fairfx County Public Schools their biggest fund was getting kids set up by grade for their supplies for the school year you could go to Staples and buy all the individual items but the parent Association coordinated with each grade level teachers that said okay they need the X Y and Z so

they would package it and say okay this is $40 it's $40 you could go to Staples and get it for like 30 but it was so much easier just to give them the 40 bucks then you have everything all right Mr F Dr okay I went to the football game last Friday um at whiter College um our stadium is better the one thing that sort of struck me I mean the game was interesting I've never seen it running up and down the field anywhere close to that but the sound it's in a canyon and their speaker system was literally just vibrating back and forth rting better I can't imagine the people that around high in homes weren't complaining so we do need to be sensitive it reminded me that our speaker system does need to

be sens to okay that thing is loud it's loud we're trying to hun is doing a great job navigating that right now okay good um but it was fun I I went down to the game because my son Liv blocks video and was opportunity to go see my grand kids um the second thing and maybe Jack wants to talk about this but he and I met with Craig for looking at all the Landscaping okay at the high school and stadium and all I remember really from it is everything we said Greg went that's going to be really I think it was a little more than the dollars we were talking about um but anyway I mean I was impressed with with Greg I mean I think he's got I think the idea and we'll see

what the plant the back but you might want to expand on that um if you want but my last thing which is probably the biggest is the foundation and I did want to bring the board up to speed a little bit about where we stand and I don't want to go into a lot of detail but there's a pro once we prepared the deed to transfer the property uh from from the foundation to the district to complete the the field we need the area we need for the field and we discovered that the deed from the district to the foundation didn't have the right legal description okay and so we're going we had to go back figure out what the problem was and for whatever reason the attorney our former real estate attorney uh didn't

just take the deed from rck to the district and attach legal description he came up with Zone and he included the pebble P okay this is not a huge mistake but anyway so we're going to have to file a corrective deed it's already prepared I got appoint Jack and I appointment with um notary tomorrow for Jack to sign it I mean we don't believe there's any need for any board action you approve the transfer it's just the legal description was wrong so we're just correcting that is all we're doing um anyway that's the next step then after that I also have the deed that that I can sign for a notary and transfer the property back to the district so I'm hopeful fingers crossed unless something goes wrong recording that that'll have to happen tomorrow

okay so that's kind of a huge step forward for um once that happens things start to move along more quickly I I talked to to Jessica on the phone um BM and D can then start SQ can start sqa the plans are pretty much done by the landscape they rather than incorporate those into the grading plan that has to go and become DSA appropriate uh by Miller um but and the SE was going to take 45 days probably but now things are going to start moving much more quickly and things will come back to the board uh the thing that has to come back to the board uh first probably will be the lease if you recall the plan is to get an agreement between the district and the foundation to terminate the license agreement

and enter into a lease agreement for the full Pro okay you couldn't do that I believe Harold already has it done but I haven't talked to him in a while but that has to be approved by the board as well as the sequel document will have to be approved by the board and then the project has to be approved by the board so those are all coming down the road but I thought I'd give you a heads up so Steve I have a question just based on uh Mr Keith that spoke today do you think it's possible that we could have as part of the fields like a perimeter track that went around the fields whether it's DG or whatever it's not yeah the problem I got is we're is really tight on space I

mean we can go around three sides easily okay the problem is there if you've been out there there's a very steep slope okay on the east side and we're going to be fencing right to the edge of that so walk inside fence sure but there's probably not going to be a well maybe there is a a field where it ABS that fence we can't do that right inside it yeah they walk around the inside of the P sure if we could maybe consider doing a set path all the way around rather than having grass or whatever it's just thought about it that maybe I mean uh I I go down to San Diego on base on like1 and they have that at a park and it's really nice to have if you can you know

go for a run around it and that might that might solve the the genuine concern that Mr Keith have that we don't have a lot of space up here where you're not competing with he's I believe looking for the quality of track that we have I mean people that want to that are serious Runners they want to run a rubberized track this will be DG um but we can work I mean it's going to be locked right and so we would have to set hours and do all that but we could certainly open it up for some I think it opens up tell us something like that is parents have to take their kids for soccer practice and everything else to be able to walk the path it's only to more used facility like for

a lack of a better term I think what you're talking about is like a KNE or something like that because Fields can't go all the way over against defense anyway so there's an area that's going to be broken up anyway so they can use it for so if you make a path all the way around parents could like walk strollers while they're waiting are practicing or that is kind of cool that does sound cool I I just approved the lasty plan today okay yeah I'll talk to it's I I think it's very do I mean it's typical to have a a warning track if you're I mean one of the first field will go right up to the fence it will be the Outfield fence okay so you put a warning track basically there which

is GG I'll I'll talk to l um on the note you said earlier about Landscaping you know there's a lot of uh hype and appreciation for us building the stadium not just for football but for track and field and soccer um but one thing that uh about the high school that's been kind of kind of in high sour since I was a student there is we're in the middle of a forest and it looks like we're in a desert high school because there's no Landscaping so I'm really hoping that you know maybe if some of the grant money comes through from the stadium or some of the other projects that will'll be able to beautify not just the high school but other sites you know the middle schools right on you know what it's funny

to say that because I want we're talking about this the fact that we're talking to Jess and I started discussing this whole concept of the landscape issue some of the I guess the visuals Optics of our schools Northshore and Middle School are the greatest object of our history because of where they sit those are the busiest areas where they sit and they did years ago they did work on Baldwin those great balwi great I think the easiest one to attack with public in middle school there's not a lot of landscaping there there's not a lot to be done and it can be improved fairly I think that's something to consider to because when we're looking at improving CU yeah the high school has so much land there and everything it's it's a lot I think

that say but when we career talking about gr what could be done a little quicker and for a reasonable amount of money look at the middle school that is right on the Boulevard and there's not a lot of landscaping I me I believe Lighthouse or somebody they I we planted the promise I remember seeing the sign and they planted that was on I on the other side of the wall yeah yeah well I mean from the street side I mean you only have a planner there that's all you can do um and and I mean Craig probably said 20 times don't forget I have to maintain it and I have to have the Personnel to maintain so we have to whatever we do we have whatever we do exactly something to make it look Cain

and nice and just say if there's like a local like the local gardening club maybe reaching out to them or something because what happened too is what it was my understanding that teachers and REM maintaining that front planto for many many years and then they just like all cut left and went to different places and it just because the teachers were doing that's what Happ but then they move and they and they move on and they don't have the they don't have the man to do it anymore so I mean there's a local gardening club who would love to come and I think that's what his point is that's what Craig's point is somebody always moves on a group always moves on and then he maintains it and that's why he tries to go more

with what heartscape or what rock or concrete right overc but there's different things in fact just you guys know this um Mr Plant did bring two Rock samples for just looking grael for the stadium or whatever we're looking at right now that would be accessible so in addition to local Gard there also we have a cool resource up here which is for service they actually have green houses for plants and stuff and maybe something like that would be I'd be curious if any of the landscapers know about PL plants to put there there's some that look like we can sell them connectors we need that for Verizon for Verizon right I'm just telling you the history of having clubs and people out yeah is it's never worked not that it can in the future but

it's never we've worked at the forest service we've worked gardening clubs there's the garden over at Northshore and once mered left I mean that fell AP and it's it's great while it lasts but if you're looking for a long-term solution there's some pretty good nonorganic plants out there I doe the fact that we have to think about the longterm Main and I think a mural painted on the background there isn't a bad idea yeah did has anyone seen the mural that jilana Marshall it's so you who did that uh jilliana Marshall she's a ski coach she was also an art teacher in Valley her grandaughter was at really amaz and our boosters had gotten an artist that did the school down here in Renning Springs if you ever like come up through Renning Springs it's

on the side of their wall really great but then we we just couldn't get approval to do it on the boosters was going to pay for it we just couldn't get approval to put saw this week fullon I bet you we could get some she did that it's the chamber app for $25,000 grant for the East Valley Improvement so had to the East Valley and um with the hope of doing more than one but when you factor in the mains and what she was suggesting for what needed to happen for longevity of it um it pretty much used up the you know all the great money um so but we're going to apply again and do the same thing on on some other sites but it's private property so it's just you know we don't

have a lot of people interested but now that you have the one in and it looks incredible it looks great I wonder if there would be interest in artist doing it first town there it is Middle SCH yeah right as you make the turn uh coming down Green Spot on the side of Li and it's like historical with cush probably side of the building everybody knows she did a she really did well if it doesn't last that's going to be a shame well and then coting on it to protect it and then you know there's like a five year maintenance plan the ni thing about the W the middle school is it faces de south or part me North I mean you know I wouldn't expect someone to do it on a volunteer basis but

well that wasn't cost but when you had all right thank you very much sh anything else okay item 11 MZ administrative report first reading Bo policy okay yeah so this is just the the report as far as this is all the title 9 suggestions from csba so it's how we update Title 9 it is it's a lot it's a lot in there as far as the yeah I know everyone I think everyone is a little over overwhelmed with all of everything that's in there title and as far as what is suggested same thing 20 times over written discriminate tiny don't discriminate so well I um I had I just wanted to I mean there were some things in here I I wanted to ask about I don't know there's a so let's do this yeah

we'll do this discuss okay so you did the second okay so um I noticed and I don't think I'm not sure if that's in the the part that I had Laur print out um but there is it new that there's training for certificated um and classified staff every every employee now has to be trained and we looking at we're going to do that through Target Solutions the target Solutions we did find it that we can do it Target Solutions we all training and then if we ever have a title line complaint we have a process we have to go through everyone has a role that we have to go through we have a sign rle that we have as far as in our our cabinet that everyone has ass sign go I'm it's like for

example I'm basically the final person that will be in appeal the final me if there's an issue pass a decision so everyone has a role and we have specific trainings that we have to do depending on what our role is um but yeah the entire the entire district has theol on this and that will be through they're vetting it right now through we in the vetting process with Target solutions to see what we're going offer us do anyone have anything else so I I would want to try to to implement these I mean I read them and it's like you got to memorize the Ed code here I mean it's saying do this in accordance with with Ed code section whatever and it seemed very very difficult it was even when I was trying to

find specific things that we was discussing with board member was trying to trying okay what is that line and it's train comes yeah that's where the training comes how're understanding this how we interpret it so I have a family member that's part of the lgbtq plus community and I'm very supportive of that but I'm not supportive of the changes to title n that the Biden Administration did because this I think it interrupts sanctity of women's sports um and I have a problem with that I have daughters that um are in sports and the issue that I that I have is I support someone that you know deep in their soul feels that they're not the gender that they were born as however when it comes down to sporting events he's a athlete that was born

a male that has transitioned to female they have physical advantage over our our young ladies and examples are the San uh San Jose State University volleyball player she's amazing but b or male 61 the volleyball net seven inches shorter for uh women athletes than men athletes and she's able to spike the ball at 80 M hour which is essentially unheard of for uh female volleyballers um we see it in swimming cycling ski racing that when a person transitions from male to female and then they participate in sports they have an unfair advantage and it would be like allowing our female athletes to um take performance enhancing drugs and we've determined that's not okay so I don't think it's okay personally I have a problem with the way it's worded that you that you have to

let them participate in the gender that they identify as I I know there's been many problems in the past with uh the lgbtq plus community and you know several uh minorities and everything in our in our nation that have not been treated well but I don't think this is the answer um and so that that's mainly why I have a problem with the working of so that's what I do we have any leeway in this you know I believe with the csba you know we want to protect ourselves legally we want to make sure we're legally protected and by doing we when we have these things from the csda that's why we want to we covering ourselves legally the board can choose what it is basically this is essentially saying from what I was trying

to catch up on mind you this reading goes in dep but this is only our first reading of this this is only the first reading of this now when you go into reading depth there's a lot of arguments but that would say that this is just we can't make a rule against it the the argument on the title 9 think that we just can't make a law against it that we can't specifically so we need to make sure and I think I I think we need a little bit I would say I think we need a little bit more guidance uh considering what Mr Roberts is asking I don't have a problem contacting contact and getting a little B more guidance toensure what it is what is our exact requirement in this seem like cspa

should jpa so and one thing that I forgot to mention is um the whole intent of title n why it was brought about was to protect women speciic spefically resources being spent on me men in uh School sports particularly college but it was to protect women and I I think this is going away from protecting women and that that's my my big issue with it was incredbly successful it was a battle to get a girl soccer team I don't know if anyone was around during that here in big and it was a title n threat that allowed it to happen yeah that gone and there was threatened oh it was a front page of the paper back in the early 90s and it was uh the hardig the stoies uh Mary Norman and they got

that group of girls through that was a first major breaks that we get a little more any information get at this point Jess and I kind of dig around a little B more we have all that information correct are you aware of any students that are participating sports or would like participate in sports that are are identifying as a separate gender a different gender than their bir gender no we do transgender students we have transgender students do well it's way better to have a plan of how we're going to deal with it wait till that's what lawyers are for and precedent I guess that doesn't matter anymore so does it make sense to me we have you um Del into the little come back come back with the first reading not approving anything right now

just the first reading so we're not approving anything this evening so what what we'll do is we'll dive into a little bit more we for more information more information talk our jpa we'll forward that information to Allard all right item 12 suggestions for future board meeting so we're not going to vote on the first reading I didn't think we voted on well we had Laura so we need to vote for the first reading or no um but we do have a vote we have in the past yes yeah it's just going have to vote on again yeah yeah you can shoot down the first reading but it's kind of silly because the idea is chance to and yes so so we won't bring it back for a second reading until you can report back to

us this information okay all right all in favor and Mak sure we get those to the bo very Ur to make sure every time to look at what we' got and to find like I said once we have information so much this was most of this done by Dr Hill yes and you lost that resource [Music] yes I could be wrong but likely it was this is what csba gave that's typal policy yeah typical policy we look at what we have currently and then see it we take csba provisions and I had mention to that um he's the actual he's the contact contact in some of so those have to be Chang some of these Bo policies if you if you clicked on individual to them so that needs to be changed one of them

said contact Ed code section all right item 12 suggestions for future meeting agendas anyone I already told you right let's A J the meeting at 6:41 thank you everybody
