Okay, relax. to adjust your arm. Let's do that. Mic test. Mic test. [music] One, two, three. One, two, three. Mic test. Mic test. Are you ready for us? I'm sleeping. Maybe that light goes off from this side. Hey, that's >> test. I face the threat. Okay. Now, as an officer, that officer doesn't know if that threat is going to keep growing and hurt somebody else. So as an officer the the first thing that happens is the officer is fear for his or her life and also has to protect the public. So that vehicle needs to be stopped. The only way at that time to stop that vehicle is to fire into that vehicle. >> They can't fire in there. There's no way they can fire in there. There's no way. There's no law that say

they can fire. No, nothing they can fire in there. It's only if they being threatened by that person driving the vehicle. Okay. >> So, just to differentiate with our local law enforcement. So, we're trying to get out of the way essentially before we we you know send you know start shooting at the vehicle. If there's room enough for us to get out of the way, we definitely get out of the way unless we're pinned in a corner or we're there's no way out then that's our last resort. So that's always the last resort for us is to, [music] you know, execute deadly force on someone. >> So it's different between federal and state, local. Um, now Miss Valz, she got arrested because she actually put her hands on an officer, an agent, whoever it was.

Okay. So she got arrested because of that. Um, she impeded an investigation that they were doing. The LAPD is standing there as you guys can see it, but they're not doing anything. All they're doing is keeping the peace. Okay. Now, people can go up to the PD and say and ask them, "Are these guys are real agents?" Cuz their job is to identify them, talk to one of the supervisors, make sure they they do have the uh authority to be there and conduct these operations. That's why the PD is there. The PD is not there to help. They're not allowed to help them. I don't I don't think any any PD in the state is allowed to help the uh the border patrol or or ICE I action. Let's go back to that. Remain calm.

Do not run. I see this a lot and I saw it a lot. Okay. When and I'm sure you guys have seen the uh the videos on Home Depot with the box truck and they'll jump out um and people started running. That's a natural reaction. Okay, it's it's really a natural reaction. Somebody gets out of the vehicle and I'm standing there, but I'm probably going to run too, you know. But what happens is when people do that, it gives the agents and officers these are no suspicions to think that this person is running because they have something. So what happens? The agent or the officer runs after them. Most of the times, you know, it's not, you know, on the ground, they get handcuffed and they'll start the interview and most of the time I

can tell you that the person is undocumented. Okay? And I'm not saying I'm not divulging any secrets, but there is a way around that because it's happened to me. I've been on the fields for so many years. Okay? Same scenario. Okay, there's a group of guys, day laborers, hang out. Box truck comes in. Okay, we own all the cops. We don't have any documents. We're going to just stand here because technically we're not doing anything wrong. All right. Now, agent him over there comes up to me and in Spanish, he'll ask me, "What's my name?" You know my name. Okay. Agent Agent him will ask me, "Where you born at?" I will ask him, "Why are you asking me that? Have you done anything wrong?" Either in Spanish or English. And there they are. I'm

just standing here. Why are you talking to me? That's all you got to say. The agent, if he's a good agent, an honest agent, he's going to say, "Okay, the person's going to probably ask him, "Am I free to go?" Agent's going to have to say yes. Or the officer because there's no reasonable suspicion there. You understand? There's no reason. But if they run, it gives one. You know, I'm thinking this guy's doing something. He's hiding something. Okay. Uh uh that goes back to the I said this earlier. Do not provide false information because it'll always come back. Um and I've seen it happen again. Um, and especially when the family members are looking for for their brothers or uncles or sisters or whatever it is, you know, and they gave me they gave me

I'm the processing officer. They gave me he gave me his name is Jose Maria, whatever his last name is, but his true name is Miguel something. So, he's booked under his number and this name and nobody can find him. And that's why we say do not give any you know sometime a lot of people don't want to I don't want to give my name out sometime obvious reasons you know but but you get stuck in a situation like this give all the correct information cuz otherwise and that's why you see a lot of people stuck in these facilities because nobody knows who they are and that's the honest truth. Nobody knows who they are so now they got to be vetted before they go somewhere else. Um, first stop in public. That's what I said

earlier. Am I free to go? If I'm not, then yeah, charge me with something with what? I ain't done anything. I'm just standing here. If I'm not, have a good day. You know, also consider documenting or recording. That helps. Just in case. Everybody has a phone nowadays. Um, except for me. I don't I don't have a phone, but everybody has phones. So, what happens if you see a family member or a friend or even a student being a little rough house by ice? Do we want to feel compelled to jump in maybe and kind of, hey, ask them what they're doing, maybe push them out of the way? I get it. It's human nature to do that. So, I'm going to explain the difference between, you know, kind of interfering on the local side. Um,

it's called Penal Code 148. It's called resist I mean passively [music] resisting us the local police officers. It's a misdemeanor. If you feel like you need to um you know obstruct or or do something that that might cause that you can be charged with a a misdemeanor on the local side. On the federal side with with ICE especially that becomes a um a US code and that becomes an automatic felony. Um and there's really no wiggle room with that. So please um think twice if you feel the need to jump in. I know it might be tempting. I get it. It's there's a lot of emotion involved in this, but think about even if you are a citizen here, you can still be charged with that and that is a felony. >> Any questions regarding

that? >> Yes. Here, let me let me want to say that a little louder. >> So, on the previous slide before this one, it said to uh consider documenting or reporting when legally permissible. In what type of situation or scenario is it not legally permissible? >> If you're in a federal building, you can't do that. Okay? Uh and by the way, all these buildings nowadays have cameras. you have to refer to to those cameras the bad that incident that's the way to go but in fair you can't do that um if it's an active crime scene which really depending on the crime scene but we really don't deal with that when I was I was an agent you know that to these guys um but anywhere where there's no reason suspicion of privacy you can

record and that's a law >> just to further out sorry just to further further add on that if I'm getting in his face like this and the officer says please give me some space to conduct the investigation and you continue then at that point at the at least locally you can be charged with the 148 which is like I said earlier the misdemeanor >> I don't know if you mentioned but the um in state court state uh prison I think you any prison have to do 85% of the prison time okay well in federal If you commit a crime like that, you assault an agent or or an officer, you're going to do the whole time. There's no parole. There's no early release or anything like that for being a good person. You'll do the

whole time. You get five years, you can do five years. You know, it's different in the state and local. I want to see your warrant. Is that different? >> So, look, what I saying is that they basically knew who at least one of the people in the car was. uh that this was a person who they tried to place a detainer on when they were in uh the custody of the local sheriff's department. Um a and ICE has the authority to perform warrantless arrests, right? The way that most law enforcement does and they have probable cause to believe somebody is in the United States violating violating immigration laws. They can try to affect an arrest and they can try to use reasonable force to affect that arrest. That is what ICE is saying happened in

now that one usually I I can't remember how many Box truck addict Home Depot immigration raid. They're calling operation box truck at home depot immigration raid. They're calling operation Trojan horse. Now they're questioned over whether they violated a federal judge's order barring indiscriminate arrest based on race. Welcome to Fox 11 News 5 cast on our sister station. Fox 11 plus. I'm Christine Divine. >> I'm Alex Michaels and Fox 11's Laura Diaz starts us off. She's live in the Westlake district. Laura, >> well a demonstration started just moments ago not far from where the raid was held earlier this morning. We're going to pan off and show you some of that. Politicians and advocates so upset with the tactics she used today. Federal agents were on a pencil TRUCK AND THEY PULLED UP AS if they

were looking for labors and then agents ran out and day labors ran. They came in a pens literally the back door opened and they got out. We were all scared. That's how one immigrant worker described the early morning terror at a Home Depot in the Westlake district of LA Wednesday morning when DHS agents arrived in a moving box Hensky truck. According to DHS, the targeted operation was called Virgin Force, ostensibly to arrest members of the notorious MS13 gang. But witnesses said those arrested were not felons, but simply men looking for a day's work. >> Images of federal agents in pursuit of undocumented immigrants spread on social media. The DHS had agents arresting 16 people who are in the US illegally. About four miles away in Boil Heights, the raid was on everybody's mind as they

held a news conference that included government, business, and labor leaders. Leaders have been hoping raids would stop after a federal judge's order assuming that immigration cannot racially profile people to target immigrants. Mayor Karen Bass was there and weighed in on the video she saw of the morning rage. From the video and from the spills, it looks like the exact same thing that we were seeing before the TTRO. We have the the legal remedy. You know, I can't physically go out there and censor. You know that the federal government is the highest level authority of our land. You know that. And so to me, the best that we can do is we can stand together as Angelinos. We can resist this. Acting US attorney Bill Sy posting a statement on X. In part, it read, "The

enforcement of federal law is not negotiable, and there are no sanctuaries from the reach of the federal government." Coming back live to the West Lake District, people are starting to arrive to participate in this demonstration. It's the anti demonstration. And if you look over on some of the charts that I'm showing you that they have signs that say education or deportation and they also saying get the job done. So we will find out later and I can tell you what happens here. But for right now people starting to arrive but the sound and the fury continues on the streets of LA. I'm Laura Diaz reporting live from the West District. Sending it back to the I'm sure everybody remembers that video. I'm pretty sure those 16 people got released because of how they did that.

Okay. Um, now whether they're being tracked or not, I can't I can't I don't know. I wouldn't be able to tell you. Um, the operation children the horse is pretty much getting a bunch of agents from different states, different border patrol agents from different states, police officers from different states, bringing them all together and going from city to city do what they did over here in Los Angeles. Okay. Um, that's the operation named Trojan Horse. And like I said, they I can't remember where they're at, if they're still in Chicago or not. They get moved out to Tennessee. But that's what they're doing. But like I said earlier, I can reiterate that these operations won't end here in Los Angeles. Um but that will be on a smaller scale. Okay. We'll still probably be seeing

the officer with the mask and all that. I wore a mask when during co time I wore a mask, but um there's reasons why they're wearing these masks. Um are they going to be able to I think uh yeah the passing the law then it's going to restrict them from wearing these masks. I don't know if it's going to happen or not but till then these guys are going to be wearing those mask um and this goes into to our next topic um um individual impersonating ICE agents. Okay, that's that was going on during the the the height of these operations and people getting arrested. But the problem with that is your normal person out there doesn't know how to how to identify an agent from a real agent from a fake one. If that

person is wearing a vest, a gun, a badge, the badges are really easy to get online. Um u even a mask or driving a vehicle that looks like a federal government vehicle. So people don't know how to tell the difference between a real one and a and a bad one. Okay. What I can tell you is the bad ones are always alone. Okay? They're always alone. The real ones, they always have a partner or they're they're driving in different digits, but they're together. Um, but the bad are always the fake ones. The fake ones, let's put it that fake ones. And the fake ones are the ones that are telling these people, "I'll let you go for for whatever money you have in your pocket." What happens? will give him the money. If you know

anybody who ever encounter one of these fake agents or officers, that's the number right there. 1 800 323 863. Call that number and call your local law enforcement. 911 will probably be the best one at first and then that number. No one in our community should live in fear of the seat of the seat intimidation and we stand firmly with all residents regardless of immigration status and are committed to ensuring their safety, dignity and rights. Okay, that you know this statement they did potentially say law enforcement. >> So the next few slides we're going to show you it's how to identify um some of the US agents. So the the pictures listed in the slide the picture at the very top is the typical ICE um uniform. It's you can see how it says police

and directly under ICE. It's it's pretty cut and dry. and bottom shows US Customs and Border Protection. Um, slightly different. And so these images you're about to see are going to be the typically associated with the federal agencies, the more common ones. First one is the ATF and the DEA and the US Marshall's Office. It's important to to know the difference between these That way you can identify them out there. Like my partner previous said, it's not very hard to to get these. You can probably find some fakes on eBay. And these are the more common state agency ones. They look pretty similar to each other. You have a parole agent. ABC, which is alcohol, beverage, and alcohol beverage control. And the more common one, which we've all probably have experienced in our life, is

a CHP one. and get to know your local agencies as well. Um, some of the common ones are the LA County Sheriff, LAPD, and familiar with your local law enforcement agency. Not sure if Buffalo has their own PD or not, but if they don't, in this regard, um, so it is a sheriff, so that's a I think we've all seen them. They wear the tanning greens. If you do find yourself in need of an attorney, this is one that's um comes recommended. And he's also gives information in Spanish as well. He is bilingual. Here's a video of FM speaking. I escape. See news. Okay. So, his contact information is going to pop up on the the screen right now. If you want to take a picture of it and jot down that information, please feel

free to do so. number for reference is Eric code 213 5164. He is located at 1213 South Englewood Avenue in the city of Hawthorne, California. Zip code is 90250. I believe this is going to conclude. So the presentation sorry have any questions for me for him. if you could go ahead and explain a little bit more about ICE agents coming on maybe to homes asking for wellness checks on students maybe someone in the home um and what are what does that look like what should a parent do if that's what happens to them >> somebody put that up earlier during my time on a job I've never heard of an ICE agent on officer going to somebody's house to do a welfare check on on a child okay That's not something we don't we never

did and something they don't do right now. I haven't heard of that. There's no purpose for forgers to do that. Um to one because how long ago was that? We talk offline off of that. But we can talk offline that. But um they're not they're not um >> yeah, local law enforcement is the one that really conducts the welfare checks. It's not usually ICE that that will do that. >> Only only local law enforcement that the owner anyone can do that can't do that. There's no reason for an ICE agent officer to knock on somebody's house and says, "Hey, can I see your son or daughter? I just want to make sure they're okay." There's no reason for that. That's not part of policy. That's not part of training. That's part of not what ICE

does. Okay. If that would happen, if somebody would knock on your door and get over the door or you can call also call your local agency as well and see what's going on with that police. >> Just open the door. Any other questions? them now that they're not allowed to enter our schools, our premises for district. Um, just for guidance for parents to know what should be the first thing or who would they call directly to report them trying to enter one of our facilities. Let's say >> they won't try to enter, but if they do, the best bet is to call the local police because they're going to respond quicker and quicker than anybody else. Okay? But they're instructed not to set foot on school grounds. Now, like I said earlier, they're following somebody.

That person leaving to a school just gets out the vehicle, walks a child to the to the school, walks back outside, now they have every right to apprehend this person. Okay. So, >> if you have a sheriff, you guys have a sheriff's department on patrol you guys here, right? Do you have a school resource officer? No. Security. Okay. What I would do is contact your local sheriff's department, which would be Lakewood Station, get a hold of the liaison, and talk to them about any possible situations that you can think of for your campuses. So, if you guys have had any encounters where you guys are kind of like, hey, this is kind of weird, you can to the sheriff's department and ask for their guidance on what they could do, what services they can provide

for your campuses if something was to be in the near future. Okay. Some kind of safety plan. So, definitely contact with the lean of the LA County Sheriff's Department. >> Thank you for that. Any other questions? >> So, with that being said, thank you for coming out. Thank you for those live streaming. >> Before we conclude, this is our social media page. Believe this is our Instagram. This is a dynamic situation, so things are constantly changing. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns maybe that you can't think of right now or want to address later, please feel free to send us a a DM, direct message, and we'll get back to you promptly. Or if not, you can always send us an email at the email pro um listed below. And yeah, thank you
