Central East reported out so I'm not going to go over those things but I didn't hear that she said um and I don't think she said this that mock trial came this close to beating Clovis West this year so that is huge and that we are so excited about that and so proud of our students and our coaches um Justin Garza doing a lot of some of the similar things that Central East is doing black student union is hosting an historically black College University panel on the 22nd of this month in the lecture hall for those who want to speak to an HBCU alumni they're showing various videos that are being featured on jgtv along with the Wednesday HBCU highlight they're also having a door decorating contest and dress-up days Pershing reported out that they

so very very proud of them and last but least I'm not going to reiterate what Laura Bolton vice president for Cuda reported out at six o'clock but you know we're here to support our MSC staff not a lot in attendance tonight because it is Valentine's Day but I trust that you all received the letters that I sent you and you will be receiving more so thank you for that we appreciate your time and your vision thank you [Applause] thank you Mrs Martinez uh do we have a member of our California school of employees Association this is Angie Geary with us she's not with us no problem thank you next we move on to letter Jr reports receive information regarding Community Schools good evening board president Singh superintendent Davis and members of the board my name

is Christine Pennington I'm area administrator tonight Jason Horseman and I are going to be providing you with information regarding Community Schools including what a community school is what are the benefits of a community school you'll receive information about current Community Schools planning Grant and where we currently are with Community Schools including information regarding next steps first we're going to talk about what is a community school a community school is a strategy for organizing and um for I'm sorry a strategy for organizing school and Community Resources around school Student Success focusing on the whole child the community including staff parents and students provide an input regarding the needs of the school and then based on that input resources are accessed and Partnerships are formed to support the needs of the school the Partnerships that are created

between the school families and other community resources are specifically geared to meet the needs of the students at the community school stakeholder groups work together to find resources to support families and students Community Schools provide a safe connected supported and valued place for everyone at the school so what are the benefits of a community school Community School hubs provide a place and a set of Partnerships connecting School family and community it it's integrated focus on academic Services support and opportunities lead to improve student learning strong families and healthier communities family and student supports are targeted for the specific needs of each Community School for example medical conditions such as Dental issues are one of the leading causes of student absenteeism which in turn impacts student learning a community school May create a partnership to provide

low or no cost dental work to students in need Community Schools provide an integrated focus on academics Youth Development Family Support Health and Social Services and Community Development the Community Schools May extend the school day and week allowing it to reach families and Community residents the resources provided to students to student support I'm sorry the resources provided to the students support the Improvement of School Readiness consistent attendance academic success and family stability thank you I'd like to add just a couple of quick comments because you may be wondering what's the difference between a community school and the resources and the supports that we're already providing for our students because we do we do have a lot of things that are already in place for our students and our community the difference here though is that

with a community school there's a comprehensive needs assessment that's done that really identifies specifically what that group of students and what those parents those community members need for that particular School site so for example we'll start our first Community School at Tegan and they're going to talk about that in just a moment but that Community School at Teague may have some things in similarity with you know when we start our next Community School let's say it's at Roosevelt or Steinbeck we haven't identified it yet but they're they're going to be different because the needs are different so so that's one of the areas and then also what I wanted to stress is that you know in central unified we're doing a lot of work towards equity and one of the the key elements of a

community school is that all children and All Families benefit from access to those resources that are being provided and so Community Schools actually have the power to address some of those systemic barriers that we find that limit opportunities for our students and our families thank you good evening trustees so for our planning Grant the district has been awarded a two hundred thousand dollar two-year planning grant that supports the development of the community school at Teague this is the this will be the first year of our planning two years does give us time to identify the needs of our community and time to develop community-based organization Partnerships which are the key to Community Schools also both the California Department of Education and Fresno County Superintendent of Schools are developing technical assistance centers to support the school

districts like Central we may also identify additional eligible schools with similar unduplicated student populations thank you so where are we so Teague was selected based off of the number of students who qualify for special funding members of the community school team have attended a two-day National Workshop because Community Schools nationally are not a new thing certainly in California but on the East Coast 20 years have gone by for Community Schools we also have had three in-person Fresno County collaborative meetings A needs assessment is being generated as as Dr Boatwright suggested to be circulated to the community including student voices teak staff are also cataloging needs as they are shared in in parent meetings that they have at the site District stakeholders have been identified to support the community including Health Services certificate and classified personnel

and community-based organizations the First Community Schools team meeting was held last month but we are in the progress of forming the formal Community Schools advisory Council so next steps so we are in the process of indicating a what a community school coordinator would look like and develop an advisory Council that will include students and parents a schedule is also being created for these years advisory Council meetings this Council this Council will be a representative body of our student population and will include at least one student and parent representative from each of the significant demographic groups so that we can get the voice of the community of Teague finally we will be applying for the five-year implementation Grant which will support the community school at Teague for a five-year period that Grant comes from the California

Department of Education we also during that time can identify other eligible schools for implementation lastly we want to thank you for your time and be happy to answer any questions you might have about Community Schools thank you questions and comments from the board trustee Korea thank you I do to me does tea become the community school or is there a community school being held at the Teague campus I'm kind of confused yeah it is it is confusing and some Community Schools have a formal facility that is the Hub of that community school but not all of the models look that way it could be simply teak As We Know It with community-based organizations woven in so we haven't made that decision is that something that the stakeholders would then decide what that structure is going

to look like correct and based off of the need now the grant specifically doesn't call for facilities so that may be an additional piece but that will be something that the that the team identifies as a need and so as we're looking to hire I think you said a coordinator right a community school coordinator that's correct are we looking at the demographics of both the student population and our families parents and Guardians specifically the languages that they speak to ensure if there's a need to have some preferred qualifications for this individual it sounds to me like it's really important more than normally in our meetings or in other situations including that additional voice but it sounds like we want to ensure that if we have a high percentage of Spanish-speaking families or Hmong or some

of our other primary speaking languages that this individual be able to communicate and that we're coordinating effectively are we going to consider that or look at that just agree I could take that question when we advertise for the position if it's specifically a skill we're looking for we'll have to have the conversation with the school board lever whether it's preferred or required when we post a position and so how are how do we then advertise to our stakeholders to ensure that we have a broad representation of the community that we're serving because obviously it's in the name a community school but based also on the information that you guys provided we're really focused in making sure that the needs of that Community are being met and I think one of the the things that we

need to ensure is that we're hearing those voices and providing them a platform for them to be able to communicate their needs how are we going to communicate or are we starting to share and advertise to our stakeholders yes I I couldn't agree more the all of the language around Community Schools is that every stakeholder especially those that haven't had a voice in the past or heard from at our last meeting Betty Barajas who is you know a Community member that that you know works at Teague really had some great ideas about advertising in the community April Henry from the T Community Center also shared how she advertises for her events you know at the thrift store at the corner market to make sure that she reaches the community of Teague we are exploring a

variety of of ways to possibly even you know go door-to-door if need be to hear from our community but we're going to try to explore every Avenue possible a couple more questions you mentioned that we currently have a grant to fund the planning um correct okay I understood that correctly it sounds to me that then there's additional funding that we can apply additional grants yeah so the planning Grant is District based it's two hundred thousand dollars for the two years and that is simply you know really to develop the team and the needs assessment and then uh you then apply for an implementation Grant which is generally at the end of that two-year period and the implementation grant that would be a monetary amount for an additional five years fatigue specifically would be three hundred

thousand dollars per year for five years okay and so then after that is there additional funding that is provided to Community Schools or that would be provided to Teague here um and then my second question to that does that impact any of the funding that Tate currently receives or is there a potential that it would impact the funding that it currently receives I'll answer that question so the district would be committed to continuing the work with Community Schools once we start so after that five-year period of time or if if additional funds are needed to support the needs of that site in that Community we would certainly bring that forward for conversation and discussion with the board I'm sorry what was your next question oh no the money that they would receive in the implementation

Grant would not impact the funds that Tiga is already receiving this would be in addition to okay thank you trustee Solis The Advisory Board is a subcommittee of this board yes or no The Advisory Board would be a a team of Teague parents students staff and District staff and community-based organization members who can join so my question still stands is that an advisory subcommittee of this board yes or no I don't think that it would be considered an advisory committee we would certainly bring the information forward to you to share in its information items as the work proceeds but it would not be considered a subcommittee could you could you do some research on that for me please and bring back the information to confirm whether it is or it is not also with that

information coming back I'd like to know what the makeup of the board is yes thank you trustee Cervantes seems like a great concept and I'm very grateful for your work I think Teague is a great place to start thank you thank you I have two questions just want to make sure all my colleagues have an opportunity um can I ask um currently who who are the members of our team that are currently titled the Community Schools team that attended the National Conference foreign so the members that attended the National Conference are Alexandria Mejia a site teacher Judy Martinez or our Cuda president myself Dr Mullen the site principal and Betty brass the um parent involvement coordinator sorry thank you and um uh Mr Norseman you had said uh you chair that we've had uh we

have identified at this point a panel of stakeholders so the panel really was just our Central team that then we'll set out to to create this a you know an official advisory Council which you know I'm I'm we'd need as many Community Voices as possible from as many different demographics as we can from Teague thank you that that's that's helpful um yeah I think I think it's just as you know getting different voices and as as you all chaired uh even potentially some uh cbos that work in in our particular area and with some of these key demographics I think that that'll play a very important role thank you as as board members also as you connect with cbo's you know we would love that that feedback and and the community school is really a

commitment to the community supports and so as you have those please please share those with us I think um superintendent Davis especially as um uh to trustee solis's question in terms of who are the different groups that will be coming I think um maybe there's a place for us to uh just have that conversation to make sure we have as many different diverse voices and and even potentially some even if board members um obviously not a quorum but like a if a few members want to serve on on that but they have an opportunity as well thank you uh next we turn to uh superintendent and or board Communications I've got a couple for you you may have seen the information going out by Gilbert the lcap local control accountability plan Community input sessions are

in full swing community members still have time to attend one of our in-person meetings or they can leave feedback by participating in the survey that is online next meeting is this Thursday February 16th at Glacier Point Middle School at 5 PM we have two more after that one on Tuesday February 21st at El Capitan Middle School at 5 30 and our final meeting will be Tuesday March 7th at Biola Elementary at 6 pm there's also an additional opportunity for engagement related to transportation funding that's coming in so you'll see some information come out shortly on that our team is working on a transportation grant that helps to recoup funds that we pay out right now for transportation services and so you will see in the next week or so a survey going out for that

as well to get input from our community as well as an input session coming up at the start of March there was a reminder that especially for families who have students that are getting towards graduation that the application period for scholarships that are being offered through the foundation for essential schools is currently open and there are a lot of different scholarship opportunities for students so if you know any make sure that they're taking a look online at those it closes March 6th they can either find them on the foundation's website or go into their College and Career Centers to get more information and then there are still sponsorships and tickets available for the scholarship branch which will be be on April 26th lastly I want to thank both Gilbert and team and our human resources

team we had a great event this last week here in this building for our employee of the year and I want to recognize our winners last Thursday was our ceremony Jody Velasquez who is the learning Partners site director at Madison Elementary was named our classified employee of the year Jose Blanco our intervention counselor at Steinbeck Elementary was named I've got the our certificated employee of the year and Rayshawn Hightower athletic director at Central East High School who as you heard from students is probably over watching a playoff game right now or running between them was named our administrator of the year and so I want to say congratulations to Oliver winners and thank you for those of you that were able to either tune in or be here it was a outstanding event and that's

all for me trustee mailing yeah thank you uh last Thursday um we had 16 FFA students compete in a local competition in Fireball and out of those 16 nine of them are actually moving to Regionals so I wanted to First say congratulations to those students and I'd also like to thank Mr Williams for preparing them for that event last year I had the privilege of going to Regionals and judging the job interview side of it and I was really really impressed and so I kind of pushed a couple of the students to to do it this year and I'm really proud of them and I want to say thanks to Mr Williams thank you Jesse Korea since we're bragging I know Judy mentioned this but our mock trial teams for both Garza and East I

don't know if Central has one so if they do please correct me I saw Garza present at least in the second round they're an amazing group of students they were very impressive and I was excited to hear from their coaches that they were so close and made history for a district and so I'm just really excited for the work that they're doing and how great they're going to be next year and eventually they will be Clovis so I was really happy about that thank you to our teachers to their families to all of our students because they can't do that alone and of course to the coaches who are volunteering there are some great attorneys so thank you thank you to our wonderful staff students and everyone that makes Central unified a community next we

turn it to item L comments from the public if they're a person switching to address the governing board on any item not on the agenda they can may do so at this time we have one comment from Dr Darren Miller good evening trustees Madam superintendent I'm here again I think I may have said Thank you already for the support the central unified gave to the stop the hate rally that we had or townhouse that we had here so if I did that I'm being redundant that's okay thank you again for the support that you provided with us and we're on to town hall number three which will be in the Madera area one of the other things I wanted to make sure to highlight since I have a minute left is superintendent's Brilliance in some

of the work that she's doing has us doing is staff members with the diversity equity and inclusion knowing that Central unified is 88 ethnic population and I don't even know if you guys realize this but the two by percentages are Southeast Asian Hmong population as well as the African-American population are the highest percentage throughout the county not the highest numbers but as far as percentages and I think that the work that you've got us embarking upon is a number one so I want to make sure that I acknowledge that as well so thank you foreign Gilbert do we have or sorry do we have any colors at this time setting 30 seconds on the clock and also trusting Griffon uh clerk Griffon do we have any other no other uh papers here okay just pause

to allow anyone from home hmm 30 seconds have passed and we have no comments by phone at this time thank you next we move to the consent agenda I had a request to pull item number one M1 so with that I'll move to approve items 2 through 11 on our consent agenda motion by trustee Korea second by trustee Cervantes all in favor say aye aye aye Nath abstains abstentions sorry item passes set 7-0 so that is uh consent items number two through eleven next we move on to action items we go back to the consent item oh sorry we go back to the consent item N1 yes trustee Korea thank you I asked to pull this item I just wanted to register a Novo on the item um with the shelter in place order set

to expire here soon I just can't in in good faith and ethically support the findings that are making to support virtual meetings under ab361 so uh with that well do otherwise do we have a motion on uh on I guess now at this point an action item motion by trustee mailing second second by trustee kerfan those in favor say aye aye those opposed Me Nay does abstain motion passes six one thank you next we move to action items letter N labeled N1 student discipline regarding case number 2223-010 the administration is recommending the board to approve recommendation on the student discipline case we have a motion by trustee Carrillo second by trustee sellers those in favor say aye uh president Singh yes can you please remind me what the motion is on the table the motion

is to approve the recommendation that was given to us by Administration about this particular case yeah thank you so we have a motion by trustee Carrillo a a second by trustee sellers uh those in favor please say aye aye those opposed nay nay and uh those abstaining motion passes 6-1 with the one knee next we move to uh item number two accept gifts to the district superintendent Davis thank you president seeing attached for your review and action are three gifts Glacier Point is in receipt of 500 from Clovis auto shop for their maker space club and girls soccer Justin Garza high school is in receipt of 250 from Save Mart for boys soccer and our transportation department Department excuse me has received 300 from bus West to supplement safety training costs and food costs and

we do recommend board accept these gifts and then following that we will send out thank you letters on behalf of our district and board thank you superintendent Davis do I have a motion motion to approve second motion by trustee Solis a second by trustee kerfan those in favor say aye aye aye aye those opposed me those abstin stating motion carry 7-0 uh item number three discuss and approve board members to the City of Fresno School liaison committee superintendent Davis thank you this item returns from the last meeting in order for you to discuss solicit nominations and improve two representatives to serve on the City of Fresno School liaison committee if you recall the first meeting was held and president Singh and trustee kerfan attended that meeting I believe so I don't know if there's any

questions okay so we do need to identify and alert them of who the two Representatives will be if you want to call for nominations or have a discussion first um I'll share actually trusting her friend were you at the first meeting uh I was not uh that day um I I would I would be attending if I would improve tonight but I have not attended previously sure so I can just uh I know we've briefly discussed it but uh it was a great opportunity uh just to be able to be in conversation uh with the city as well as other school districts currently it serves as an advisory role to the city council it is held under the auspices of President Esparza it has two members of city council two members of fcoe two members

of uh Fresno Unified two members of central unified two members of Clovis Unified and one member of Sanger unified and so really it's an opportunity just to hear what are the major issues in for us to raise major issues so at this point we are asking for nominations they did ask for the president to be one of them are you interested in serving I am interested in serving I would nominate president zing and trustee kerfan so we have uh two nominations so far trustees myself and trustee Griffon any other nominations okay with that then um do I have a motion so moved we have a motion by trustee Carrillo second uh second by trustee kerfan those in favor actually can we have further discussion yeah I would just request that as meetings are held that

you guys report I think provide us updates um I know that in the past when we've had individuals participate I don't think they've ever reported back unless we've talked to them on an individual basis so if you guys can remember to do that I would appreciate it yeah trustee Carrillo I get happy to do that report to the board and if there's any topics of discussion that board members would like seeing at these meetings please let us know and we'll uh make the voices of our entire District be heard we'll make sure to share the agendas prior uh through trustee sorry superintendent Davis to provide tell us and we'll make sure to agenda as an item following every meeting uh for information with regards to uh what the liaison committee is discussing thank you uh

so with that we had a an initial motion by trustee Carrillo a second by trustee kerfan those in favor say aye aye does opposed nay that was abstaining motion carrier 7-0 uh next we move on to item number four approve revise board policies and bylaws superintendent Davis thank you this evening we have two revised board policies and one revised board bylaw for your consideration and action the first board policy is 3515 related to campus security was reviewed and returns to make our policy current as we are in process of updating our security systems updates are available recently regarding new law related to certificated classified staff board members that if alerted or observe a perceived threat to report to law enforcement and if they learn of any health or safety threat related to school or school

activity to report to school or District administration so you'll see those changes redlined in addition we did attach the AR as was a previous discussion when we were talking about security cameras there was a question about who has access to the video recordings captured on the security camera and and you will see in that attached AR it does include the staff both to monitor as well as to maintain the equipment both of those are outlined the second board policy is 4315 relates to evaluation and supervision and it has been updated to include language per your direction as the board the new language does direct the superintendent to provide a report each January regarding evaluation and assessment of the competency of administrative personnel and in addition you do see attached a revised administrative leadership evaluation tool

to reference the work that's been done as it relates to evaluation and assessment of Competency so that is attached the last item are is a board bylaw for filling vacancies that has been updated based on new law Senate Bill 1601 and include some notes for provisional appointments and there were some language changes or adjustments to those I know that I received that I we did prepare in advance so that we could capture them if if we are interested in making a few of those adjustments I'm happy to have discussion and then do requests that we move to act on these items thank you any questions or comments from the board trustee Korea for AR 3515 so that's not coming to the board for approval right that was just the presentation correct the administrative regulation Administration

sets that based on the board policy that you set I did receive a comment about being specific instead of using Administration to change the language to principle or designee just so it was really clear who the site leaders are and so we made note of that and and we'll do that at our next executive cabinet meeting thank you and and that was going to be one of my comments um there's a lot of the the terms being used administrator and some of the other I mean that we know who the area administrators are and assistant superintendents but I think my recollection from the discussion that this board had was that we wanted to know who specifically was responsible and had access and so I would recommend that at least you as our superintendent have a

list of who's responsible so that if we are hearing things or there are questions from the community and we know obviously we always connect with you but that you also have a starting point um so I would just appreciate that so that it's it's clear and IT addresses the concerns that the board was sharing other than that I did submit some revisions to the other policy so thank you for considering those thank you trustee mailing I just had one question on um campus security under surveillance systems um what was the reasoning behind disabling the sound so they're not recorded that language was in the current policy we had and when we reviewed it that is not match our practice we do have enabled audio on for example on the buses there is audio to that

so that's why you see that struck through at the bottom of the first page okay I just was curious what what that meant thank you motion to approve motion by trustee Solis second second by trustee kerfan those in favor say aye aye aye aye those opposed Nate any abstentions motion carries 7-0 next item N5 approve compensation modifications for under unrepresentative employees management super supervisory and confidential Embassy Mr Collegian uh thank you trustee Singh and and our rest of our board members tonight attached for your review our recommended modifications for Central unified's unrepresented employees which includes management supervisory and confidential commonly referred to as MSC the attached salary schedules reflect the following a 9.5 ongoing increase retroactive to July 1st 2022 in addition increased longevity stipends retroactive July 1st 2022 and lastly changes to longevity stipends

as referenced in the attachment effective July 1st 2023. we are recommending approval of this item happy to answer any questions the board may have thank you questions from the board motion to approve motion by trustee Solis second second by trustee sellers I like to make a comment on this item before we move to a vote thank you to all our community members and all of our District employees who sent us emails or I'll speak for myself who sent me emails and messages I've read them I've listened to your comments this is an item that to me is very conflicting and it's not so much that that it's to say we've heard comments from the community that we need to support the 9.5 for equality and because it's the fair thing to do and many of

you work very hard and I agree with all the sentiments there are a majority of you that work really really hard and that are here for the right reasons to support our students my difficulty in this is that there there is an inequity that's created in which individuals who are not as dedicated as the majority of you still are are being um rewarded for that I am supportive and happy that we are revising our board policies and to be able to assist those that need help and to to better perform and again at the end of the day to better help our students I hear a lot of complaints from our communities specifically from a multilingual families and students that are they're not being heard or they're not receiving the support at their campuses and

and I serve on this board and I ran for re-election because I want to make sure that all of our students feel comfortable and safe just as well as all of you and so I I'm still conflicted as to how I will vote I don't know if anyone else will be providing any comments because I came in here thinking I can't support this item I still can't but I do hope and I know that you all are working very hard like I said and that our district and our leadership is working to improve and to provide you the necessary tools it's just this side items not easy for me so thank you chair could we have a real call vote on this item sure we'll do a roll call vote then trusteaker fun I trustee

sellers hi trustee Korea can you skip me and call me last sure trustee mailing yes trustee Solis yes trustee Cervantes yes for myself and trustee Korea I'll vote Yes motion passes 7-0 [Applause] president Singh can may have a comment on the side before we move on sure uh as previously mentioned thank you to the MSC staff who um have reached out to us I think and the other members of the community that have reached out as well we know how hard you all work we've heard it many times over in our work here and of course I heard on the campaign Trail many members of the community mentioned certain staff by name saying this person is exemplary they work very hard and I think what we'll also see with how it's been progressed today is

that there is mechanisms there will be a mechanism for accountability for those who may not work as hard as the vast majority of the MSC staff so with that being said Thank you and we hope that the community will see this and we'll all progress happily into the new year thank you moving on to information items number one receive information on new mascot logo for Madison Mr Garrett it said it was on there it goes good evening board president uh Singh members of the board and superintendent Davis tonight I'm bringing for information the logo recommendation for Madison Elementary School Madison Elementary students including student body officers classroom representatives and Madison staff reviewed the options after various collaborations the vote was taken and the attached logo was selected Administration recommends that this item be placed on

the February 28th agenda for action and I'm happy to answer any questions or comments from the board trustee Korea I just have a comment it looks beautiful so thank you to all of our employees and our students who came back with this great idea so thank you very much thank you if there's no question then we can move this item to consent number two receive information regarding comprehensive school safety plans Mr Garrett all right good evening again I'm bringing for information tonight the School site comprehensive safety plans and emergency procedure documents for your annual review these documents are maintained electronically and updated on a yearly basis the law requires that updates and Adoption of these plans are completed by March 1st in addition to the maintenance and annual update of these documents our sites review

their plan at the beginning of the school year as well as Upon returning from winter break and participate in regularly conducted drills and training to ensure preparedness and competency in the event of an emergency all of our sites follow a monitored drill schedule performing monthly fire drills lockdown drills and drop cover and hold drills in addition once a year every site is required to undergo active shooter training provided by Fresno County Sheriff's Department plans include updated information on anti-bullying awareness strategies and components multi-tiered systems of support or mtss resources utilized by sites bonds to student need and a link to our injury illness and prevention program which includes our current covid-19 guidance and procedures once the yearly update is complete the plans are reviewed and approved by the site School site Council and then signed

by the site principal and School site Council chairperson prior to coming to the board for review and approval I would like to thank our site Administration who are in attendance this evening for their completion and communication of the safety plans with their respective staff members Administration recommends that this item be placed on the February 28th agenda for action and I'm happy to answer any questions question or comment by trustee Carrillo so I know you mentioned that the site School administrators review this at the beginning of the year and after the winter break if there are teachers that have concerns that would necessarily impact the safety plans how and who should they be reporting those concerns Claire if it's a concern any concern should be brought to site Administration I think if it's a concern in

regards to their responsibility for maybe a team that they're a part of during an incident as part of the planning then definitely communicating that to their site Administration and they'll work to assist a change in that I think what we've heard is some concerns about the safety of certain buildings in certain classrooms some wondering what the current process is available and how we're communicating that to our teachers so if there's a concern in the classroom in response to the safety plans that we have how do they go about communicating that any concerns should be directed at site Administration site Administration would then work with area Administration and we would then help facilitate appropriate Department support in addressing that concern thank you earlier principle if they contact their principal and let their principal know and if

they aren't getting an answer that is causing them to contact you as you've done before send it my way and we'll make sure it gets to the principal I have a hundred percent luck when I send it over to them they respond quickly so right and I think sometimes it's not so much they're not comfortable communicating to a site administrator and that's sometimes why we hear it I don't think it's necessarily A critique to say they've been sharing things or they don't know who to share and so it's helpful if we know as a trustee to say hey have you spoken to your principal oh you haven't great go back if you they're not receptive then and then and then we do yes correct thank you very much yes thank you trustee Solis number one

I would request is coming back as an action item also I would request staff uh in their presentation to us to include what is the process recent events will show that when this goes on a lockdown or there's a security issue in the neighborhood that you get an influx of parents swarming the front gate what is the process I know I've received some phone calls within Centra what is the process of picking up your child after the school is not on lockdown that you're letting releasing the children what it is apparently we're getting different answers parents are getting different answers from different School sites so please bring back in your presentation what's the process if you have two or three processes present that that way it can be an open session in the community you

can hear it we will do so thank you then if there's no further comments or questions or the item will return on the action agenda thank you thank you number three um information I receive information on Westside Professional Services contract Dr Boatwright thank you so westad is a service agency that works with educational Partners this contract will allow us to complete a file review of current speech IEPs to ensure that the right services are being provided for our students they will also work alongside our staff to establish entry and exit criteria the number of students requiring speech services has significantly increased this year we need to make sure that the district provided services are appropriate we are asking that you approve this item I'm sorry that we you approve this item on the February 28th

agenda for action thank you any questions or comments from the board if there are no question comments then I'll suggest that you come on the next next meeting as a consent item thank you number four receive information regarding 2022 Ballot or assume 2023 ballot for csba delegate assembly superintendent Davis thank you and we didn't catch that we saw it earlier 2023 ballot sorry about that we'll fix it four nominees are in front of you for Fresno County and one of those our very own trustee sellers on that list biographical sketches are attached for your review and our goal is at the next meeting that you act on the nominations you can select up to four and there happen to be four there so so that would return as an action item thank you number five

receive information regarding professional architectural services for interim housing particles at Justin Garza High School Mr Rodriguez good evening board president uh Board of Trustees and superintendent Davis attached for your information tonight is a proposal from Darden Architects for architectural services for the Justin Garza leased classroom interim Portables the proposals and the amount of 82 920 Darden Architects is in Fresno has provided comprehensive architectural planning and Interior Design Services throughout California since 1959. under this proposal Darden Architects will Design plan and prepare project documents for DSA review for the placement of the classroom interim Portables to ensure compliance with the title 24 building code requirements that's part of the California code of regulations uh Administration is recommending that this item be placed on the February 28 2023 board agenda item for action and I'll be pleased

to answer any questions you may have thank you trustee Korea you remind me again why we need Portables eight why we need them we're there there will be uh we need there's uh let me jump in there um yeah so the next school year uh Justin Garza high school will be taking it anywhere between 550 to 600 more students as freshmen come in and the current ninth graders become 10th and matriculate to the 12th grade year uh classroom space has become a a scarcity at Garza so adding these eight Portables would allow for Less teacher movement roving from classroom to classroom so anticipating anywhere between 9 and 11 new teachers coming over to Justin Garza high school next year with the addition of these Portables it would extremely minimize teachers roving from classroom to classroom

and if I can add the vapa building is not complete which is where permanent buildings are so this structure was planned for as needed and so we have to go in a different order until the vapa building is built and constructed and our guess is those Portables are still needed for a little while during that process so thank you and I didn't mean to ask a trick question I couldn't remember I know that we have to plan to include Portables but I hate Portables yes and so one day I will change the law in the state of California that doesn't require Portables but until then I couldn't remember whether we actually had planned to have sufficient classrooms and it was a evap issue or whether just the way business is done in California until I

get the auditorium finish it has the extra classrooms in there so that's why we're short thank you any other questions or comments is there a desire to move this to consent or action consent all right we'll move it to the consent thank you and then you're still with us Mr Rodriguez number six receive information on labor compliance services for Justin Garza High School athletic fields increment number one thank you board president the district has received a proposal from qk engineering for labor compliance services that are required by the California Department of industrial relations for the athletic fields project at Justin Garza High School the proposals in the amount of fifty nine thousand fifty dollars in California anyone working on Public Works projects must be paid prevailing wages as determined by the department of industrial relations

question and I apologize if you mentioned this we've been using qk for some of the other projects right that is correct thank you Chelsea Solis did this contract go out a bit no it did not uh this they responded to an RFQ and uh there was a series of uh contractors that that were able to to choose from thank you you're welcome thank you sir we'll go ahead then and move this item to the February 28th meeting on the consent calendar next letter P Advanced planning uh just real quickly please note the adjusted dates for work sessions this school year we do have a work session next Tuesday night it does start at 7 00 p.m not 6 and that's in case you are attending the lcap community engagement session we didn't want those two

to overlap and we did change originally on Advanced planning we had April 18th but we checked all of your other committees that you're on and there was a conflict with one of our trustee committees and so that is now April 19th we'll remind you well in advance of those also as requested by President Singh beginning at our next board meeting I do want to confirm that we will begin school presentations two schools have been selected each evening that should have up to about the first half an hour of the meeting at the front end for the school's opportunity to show success in their data areas of challenge that they're facing and what they're doing to bring about Improvement there's some incredible work being done and I'm excited for you you to hear about that and

then also kind of a creative opportunity to Spotlight a club or program that they have in place and so those will begin next meeting thank you to principal Ginger and principal holterman I think they're our first two that are up presenting for Central High School in Han fontilly Elementary that's all for advanced planning thank you superintendent Davis letter Q additional information and closing comments the letter our reminder of our next meeting as our next meeting for the public will be February 28 2023 on on Tuesday evening at 6 PM uh we'll be starting closed session 7 P.M public session here at the central East High School Performing Arts Center and as superintendent Davis just highlighted we will be having a special board meeting Workshop that will be held Tuesday meaning a week from today at

pm February 21st at the century Unified district office at room four so please don't come here presidency one quick question on the workshop historically we have not broadcasted those special board workshops and so I just want to confirm and make sure that the public is aware that we don't have an intention to broadcast via YouTube so if they want to participate they need to attend in person okay thank you yeah so so if you'd like to join us please uh come come and join us we will be focusing on discipline and other related issues and with that we will adjourn back to closed session thank you so much
