001All right. Good evening, everyone. We're going to go ahead and bring our meeting into open session here at 6:39 p.m. Uh we have all board members present with us this evening. Uh we do have a report of action taken in close session. In close session, the board took action to approve resolution 32526 and release temporary certificated employees pursuant to education code sections 44911 and 44954 effective at the end of the 2526 school year and directed the superintendent to send out appropriate legal notices to the following employees. SC 252602, SC2603, SC252604, SC2605, SC252606, and SC2607. Uh the vote was 50 in approval. That will bring us to our pledge of allegiance. Uh Dr. Kim, would you introduce our guests? >> Thank you, President Aguilar. It is my pleasure to introduce the esteemed principal of Bedillo Elementary

002School, Miss Connie Monroe, to introduce her student that will lead us to the pledge. All right. Good evening, board of trustees and executive cabinet. Thank you for inviting Bedillo here this evening. I have the pleasure of introducing several of our best [snorts] and brightest. I'd like to start with um our student who's going to lead us in the pledge of allegiance and that's Logan Beenna. I'd like to say a few words. Come on up. I'm going to say a few words about you before we get started. So Logan is a hardworking and dedicated student. He is curious. He's helpful and involved in his school community. Logan regularly seeks opportunities to grow and enrich his learning through opportunities including his participation in Bedillo's sixth grade leadership club tech team, the superintendent student advisory committee and the

003gate academy. He is an aspiring club volleyball player and participates in practices and clinics to strengthen his skills. Logan excels towards his academic goals and has already read over 1 million words this school year. He is a leader at Padillo. Welcome, Logan. [applause] Please stand. Place your right hand over your heart. Ready? Begin. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. honoring leading us. Great job. [applause] >> Logan Everybody. >> [applause] >> Miss Monroe, if you can continue on with your superstar student. >> All right. I'd like to introduce Gianna Siriniro. Giana, if you'd like to come up. Gianna is the kind of student every school community hopes for. She is genuinely

004kind and friendly to everyone she meets, whether in the classroom, on the stage, or in the hallway. Giana leads with warmth, compassion, and respect. She is also a remarkably hard worker. When faced with challenges, she does not back down. Instead, she perseveres. Even when the work is difficult, Giana never gives up. She leans in, pushes forward, and gives her very best effort. Her talent shine both inside and outside the classroom. Many of us had had the pleasure of watching her perform in our Charter Oak musicals, including her memorable role as Young Fiona in Shrek the Musical last year. Gianna has a beautiful voice and recently shared that gift with us again at our school's talent show. Her confidence and stage presence are well beyond her years. Beyond her artistic abilities, Giana has an incredible mind.

005She is currently challenging herself in our afterchool gate academy classes where her curiosity and love of learning continue to grow. She approaches academics with the same determination and enthusiasm that she brings to the stage. Gianna is also a leader in our sixth grade leadership club. Recently, she and her fellow club members delivered Valentine's Day cards to the senior residents at the Masonic homes on Bedillo Street. This act of kindness reflects who Giana truly is, a young person who cares deeply about others and seeks opportunities to make a positive difference in her community. There is no doubt that Giana's future is bright, whether she becomes a great writer, a famous actress, or pursues another career choice. Welcome, Giana. [applause] We'll invite her family up to take some pictures. for you. Here's a picture. >> [laughter] [applause]

006>> All right. And then Miss Monroe, your partner in education or partners in education. >> And finally, we are honoring the Catalons tonight. It is a true honor to recognize partners who have gone above and beyond in supporting our students, our staff, and our entire school community. A strong school system isn't built by educators alone. It takes a village. It takes people who believe in the power of education, who step forward not because they have to, but because they genuinely care. Michelle and Damen Catalan have been top sponsors for the high school scholarship through the PTA. Additionally, they've always been one of the top donors for all the fundraising events at Bedillo. Michelle has served on our PTA board for many years and always volunteers for many school and classroom events along with her husband.

007This year, their youngest child is a sixth grader, so we will be losing a strong supporter. However, I have no doubt that their generosity and support will continue on to Royal Oak and beyond. This evening, we are proud to recognize the Catalons as an outstanding community partner. Through their generosity and continued support, they have helped provide resources, opportunities, and experiences that make a difference in the lives of our students. Their contribution is more than financial. It's an investment in all of our students. Thank you for being here tonight. [applause] Thank you so much. There you go. One, two, [applause] All right, this will bring us to our student representative report. Miss Rosselli, >> good evening. Um, I will begin with the Bedillo board um highlights. Um to begin with, um Vidillo has had an incredible

008start to the month at the elementary school and they are thrilled to share some positive Panthers news with us tonight. They started their March Madness um with some high stakes energy in the gym for the sixth grade March Madness basketball tournament. As many of us um as many of you know, Bedillo entered the court as last year's reigning champions. We are proud to report that our athletes played with an incredible heart. Our students displayed exemplary sportsmanship prov sorry sorry proving that a true champion is defined by their character as much as their jump shot. For their second highlight while our athletes were busy on the court our readers were busy in the library for read across America day week. We transformed the campus into a celebration of literacy. The campus was a sight to see

009during our spirit days for some very creative facial hair on mustache Monday to our campuswide pajama day. We were also deeply honored to welcome several special guest readers from the community. Seeing our students engage with local leaders over a good book reminded us of why building a strong literacy foundation is so vital. [clears throat] Finally, we had some very special four-legged visitors. The dogs were back. We hosted three wonderful therapy dogs who spent time with every student from TK through sixth grade. From the court to the classroom to the wagging tales, March is a month that truly celebrates the whole child at Padidillo. All right, moving into the Charter Oak report. On February 25th, we had the annual annual blood drive where Charter Oak staff, student, and community members were able to donate blood to

010the city of Hope. Um, we also hosted our winter sports rally where members from different sports were honored for their progress and hard work on the field. We would also like to recognize the hard work from inside the classes where this month teachers were able to select students that they recognize for being collaborative, creative thinkers who listen actively and work cooperatively. We'd like to Keep up the great work, Chargers. We also have officially announced both our prom and rally themes, which are tale as old as time and despicable meme, respectively. Prom will be hosted at the Hosienda in Santa Ana on April 25th, and we'll have our spring rally open only to Charter Oak students on April 7th. Yesterday, we hosted our career day where many students were able to learn about different careers and

011fields that they would like to enter. Thank you to the guest speakers that we hosted on campus. We'd also like um to honor these students who received a proficient in one or more categories of the CASP testing to attend a barbecue where they were able to mingle with friends and look back at pictures from the last four years they've had at Charter Oak. Um today was the annual car show hosted by the Auto Club where many students and their families were able to showcase their memorable cars for students to take pictures with. And finally, we are preparing for the showcase which will be hosted in the Charter Oak Gym on March 18th where different sports programs and clubs will be able to showcase what they stand for. Thank you. >> Great. Thank you very much,

012Mr. Roselli. Uh this will bring us to our RO report. Mr. Rose, do we have a report? >> Good evening, board members. Uh we had meetings last Monday and I want to show you a couple things that they are promoting program at the San Gam Valley OP. One with the flyer that was out committing the school sites and getting out the kids and they have information on both sides. It's pretty exciting and offering courses in AI fundamentals, businesses, finances, cyber security, career exploration, financial literacy that meet AB 2927, health, career and marketing and sales services. Very nice fly. Really nice. And then they also make if I can find a postcard, they also make a postcard as well. It's in here somewhere. Small postcards and similar to this flyer here. And then they have their

013own foundation education foundation recognition event and student scholarship award that's going to happen on Thursday, April 30th [clears throat] at 9:00 a.m. More information to follow. So do promoting that as well. The second intern report is positive. your um budget looks good and the RO itself and they're running like they're having a great year there. Teachers are fabulous. On Monday, I will be joining with other board members go on the tour. We're going to be visiting seven different high five five different high school and observe there are people classes there. So that's my report for the day. Great. Thank you, Mr. Rose. Yes, we have a question. Miss Lawrence, >> are we getting those flyers at the high schools? Mr. Rose. >> Yes. [clears throat] Thank you, Vans. >> Great. Uh, thank you again. And

014that will bring us to our superintendent report, Dr. Kim. >> Thank you, Dr. President. Um, March, we are nearing the spring season. Happy daylight savings time. uh wanted to share some really um neat things that are happening across our schools. We heard from uh Connie with regards to read across America. It was last week I had the pleasure of reading to Miss Alb's class at Badilla Elementary last week and uh hopefully her students enjoyed uh my reading aloud or my version or rendition of Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street. I enjoyed it. I don't know if they enjoyed it as much as I did, but it was a great time and I think a good reminder of just really the emphasizing the love of reading and building in a love of reading across all of

015our schools. Uh want to congrat uh give my congratulations to Cedar Grove Elementary, the champions of the annual Ed Foundation March Madness tournament. They did a fantastic job. It was an incredible game. The score was 3 to2 at halftime, so you can imagine every point counted. And so, uh, great job to Washington as well. They were worthy runner up runnerups to the tournament itself. Want to share with this board, um, as well a update to our ROMs forestry and greening project. As we all know, this is a partnership that we've had with the city of Cabina for the last couple years. And we've completed a very critical part of doing the leg work of planning out what the forestry and greening project would look like. We received planning grants for this. We have those grants

016in place and essentially what it's referred to as it's shovel ready meaning once we receive funds to actually complete the work we have the entire architecture and designs um to do so. In the meantime, we have been working very closely with the city of Kavina in pursuing other grants to do the completion of that work as well as um planning and implementing the athletic spaces in the ROM's field. Right. And so we're excited about that work. Uh we have three separate grants that we've pursued. We've heard back from one and unfortunately we did not receive the grant from the Los Angeles County Regional Parks. We're going to submit another grant for the next cycle. We have another planning grant that's going to help support some of the waterways and um storm water draining systems. It's

017a planning grant. We're waiting on word with that piece. And we're excited because just last week in our partnership with the Cavina, we submitted a comprehensive application to Congressman Cisneros's office to pursue after the completion of our greening project as well as a planning and implementation funds for the athletic spaces. So, we're hopeful for that. Uh we'll follow up uh and hear word on that one. And we look forward to hearing some good uh positive effect of that piece. And speaking of just facilities, as we know, facilities are our needs. Our schools have been around for a long time. Our most of our schools were built in the 1950s or the 1960s. And so facility needs um um are um wide and varied. Uh we have done some incredible work over the years. uh not

018just utilizing our own district funds, but through generous um community funds through previous local funding measures that have done uh um great work in modernizing each of our campuses. And so uh we look forward to showcasing that work. In fact, our office is going to complete out a um lack of better words, a um information um that's going to showcase uh our buildings over the years, the improvements that we made, and how we're again going to look forward to seeing whether or not the community would be interested in supporting other future uh building and facility needs for Charter Oak Unified. So, we look forward to that. And um with that, um I conclude my report. Thank you very much, Dr. Kim. This will bring us to presentations. Dr. Kim, would you introduce our presenter? >>

019Yes. Our presenter is going to be our very own uh chief business offer officer, Miss Krill Branford. I'll give her a moment to uh approach the podium. And as we all know, um, March of every year per Ed code, we, uh, present to this board our second interim financial report that gives us an update in progress as it relates to where our finances are, uh, in relation to our adopted budget back in June of 2025. So, with that, turn it over to Miss Brford. >> Thank you, Dr. Kim. Good evening, board president, Dr. Aguilar, Vice President, Mrs. Flores, members, staff, and community. It is my pleasure to present to you tonight the 2526 second interim report as well as the multi-year projections. I will be presenting a positive certification for your review and approval. This

020was achieved through your through your approval of reductions for the next fiscal year as well as additional projected reductions in the subsequent year due to the current budget assumptions. putting together this budget that meets county and state requirement relies heavily on collaboration and decisions. I'm always grateful for teamwork that we have at the district level and also just to recognize my department, my fiscal director Nikki. Um we've work we work really well as a team and so we're able to get all the work behind the scenes done and so I want to say thank you to Nikki. With that said, I'm going to get into the report. So, this is just a visual of the budget cycle and we are now at the second interim report due in March. And so, after and we had

021recently just had the governor's budget proposal in January and some of the proposal is now incorporated into the second interim. Next, we'll have the estimated actuals and start the development of the 2627 budget and then of course the May revise and we'll have an opportunity to make changes if we need to. I'll be going over the general fund assumptions, the budget projection for this year at second interim multi-year projections, our other operating funds, ongoing considerations and next steps. So the first page of the assumption shows our COLA projections, enrollment projections, our UP numbers, and our ADA. Looking at the COLA, you can see there's some strikethroughs on the two out years 2627 and 2728. I did speak to the cola being lower at first interim. So this is now incorporated at the second interim. And

022you'll also see that the 2728 year is showing a reduction in cola. What that equates to is loss of revenues in our LCFF funding. Our ADA is showing some um lower numbers at second interim. So we went down somewhat. And so for now I'm keeping that flat until we get through the rest of the year. Our second set of assumptions shows our pension costs and our lottery projections. Calsters stays flat and has been flat for some time but Kalpers is showing us some reduction in um percentage growth and so we will see some savings in our Kalpers projection projected expenditures. This is a full picture of the general fund both the restricted and unrestricted and just looking at the um growth or changes over time from the adopted budget to the first interim. Now we're

023at the second interim. U major changes shows revenues grew somewhat. We went from 87.9 million at the first interim to now 88.8 million. Our expenditures also went up from 92.6 million to 95.2 million. And as you can see, our net increase or decrease is all red. It's showing that we're deficit spending. However, as I get into the details, you'll see those are really related to the restricted side of the books. Our fund balance is down naturally because we've increased our expenditures. And looking at our components of ending fund balance, we are meeting our 3% reserves plus our non-spendables, our stores, and our pettash. And we also have some carryovers in our LCAP or supplemental and concentration funds. We have 1.2 million. Our restricted ending balance is still showing 2.2 which is still some carryovers. And

024so we see 1.6 million as additional funds that we are setting aside for stabilizing the budget. Uh this slide is really one of the most important. It's the unrestricted general fund. the current projection plus our two multi-year projections um major areas or revenues um went down slightly from first interim to second interim but it shows an increase in our contributions and so it's identified in our special education area where we had to increase our contributions of the little over uh 200,000 and so contributions went up from 13.8 8 million to 14 million. We are still committed to the $2.5 million in a fund transfer from fund 17. But as you can see, our revenues after contributions showing at 50.8 million even though we started at 62 million. But because of the increase in contributions, we

025are seeing lower revenues available for operations. And so our expenditures at 50.7 is actually not exceeding our revenues. So for this fiscal year we are doing really well. We are not deficit spending. But as you look to the out years our revenues even though it's increased slightly again the reducing cola reduction in cola is actually reduced sor revenues. And so you also see an increase in special education contribution and therefore it's reduced the revenues down to 49 million with expenditures at 51.2. So that's where we're seeing huge deficit spending of 2.2 million. Our 2728 year again revenues are up because we do have a cola but we also lost some revenues because of the reduction in the projected cola. contributions are up 15.5 million brings our revenues down to 50 million and we are spending

02650.9 million. There is a small deficit spending but again that's hurting us and so in order for us to actually balance the 2728 year and meet the 3% reserve we had to build in some additional reductions and I will get into that. So this kind of gives you a little bit more details on what happened since first interim into the second interim as well as the multi-year projections. So we did have a small increase of special education of a little over 200,000. We added additional carryovers and new revenues more so on the restricted side and we are maintaining the 2.5 million commitment to transfer in from fund 17. But on our multi-year projections, the specifics of what happened is loss of LCF revenues due to reduced colas approximately $1 million. Our increase to support special

027education in the out years is roughly half a million. And so what we've done so far is the 26 27 we built in those fiscal stabilization approved reductions of 2.5 million but we're also now projecting another reduction of 1.1 million for the 2728th year which we didn't have at the first interim but because of the loss in revenues we now have a need to make more cuts in that year. This slide is a picture of the restricted general fund. Again, this side of the books is supposed to be in balance. Even though they're showing deficit spending, it's because they have the carryovers, the ending fund balance to be able to absorb those deficit spending. But on the 2728 projection, you can see that revenues do match expenditures. So overall, the restricted side of the books

028does stay in balance. Our other operating funds such as our adult ed cafeteria, our capital facilities funds, and our child development fund are all showing positive ending balance. So none of these funds need supports from the general fund, which is always a good thing. Our ongoing considerations, again, we've always talked about declining enrollment, but ADA is actually hurting us. And like most districts with the decline in attendance, we are losing revenues. There are those reduced colas and hopefully we'll see a change at the May revise. We we'll have to wait and see. Uh the expected increases in special education, it it's ongoing. It's happened every budget cycle, every period in the budget, we are seeing an increase in supports to special education. We are of course because of all those things there's a rapid erosion

029of fund balances. We've talked about increased insurance premiums due to AB28 and we're also seeing increased utility and operations costs. Our light bill goes up, water bill goes up and so we're always having to cover those things. Our capital facilities needs as Dr. you mentioned, we are hoping that we will be able to bring in more funding that will have a successful bond if we go out. Our next steps will be our governor's may revise which is scheduled for May 21st and then we'll have the public hearing of the 2627 proposed budget and LCAP and also the approval of the budget and LCAP in June. That's my presentation. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer those. >> Thank you very much, Mr. Branford. Uh, do we have questions or comments from the

030board? Mr. Peterson, >> thank you. Quick question in regards to the multi-year projection is showing deficit spending of 868,000. Does the cola decrease in cola represent a million dollars 1% >> between the two years? So we had reductions in both the 2627 and 2728 year roughly 1% and that equated to almost a million dollars. >> Okay. On the on the sped special ed cost, is any of that money supposed to be federally reimbured? Um yeah, very very interesting question, very good question, but um we've talked about this. The feds promise 40% reimbursement, but I believe we only receive around 9% from the feds. So they've never fulfilled their promise of funding special education. >> Thank you. >> Additional comments or questions, Mr. for us. >> We my understanding that we we are going to fall

031on the positive certification because we are meeting the reserve. >> Yes. >> Yeah. That 3.1 under the 2728 projection is is 3.10. >> Right. So the point the one >> what's the minimum do we have to meet? But we also have um nonspendables. That's our stores and our petty cash. That's why it's showing a little over 3%. >> Because I noticed that the reser% had gone down. >> Yes, that's a trajectory. It's going down. >> So any we can't go under 3.0. >> Pardon me? >> We can't go under 3.0. >> No, we cannot. If if that is the case, I mean it all depends on the caller and all the listening consideration the G enrollment and all that can have an impact on our budget down the line. >> So should it fall under

0323.0 what happened then? Well, if it's let's say it's just in the 2728 year, then we will be filing a qualified budget. And what that means is that we are certifying that we might not be able to meet our obligations. And so the next steps would be that we of course have to have a fiscal stabilization plan. And the county will then ask us to do an additional report at the end of the year. So almost like a third interim. And if we're still unable to do that, then that's when the county will step in and give us a fiscal advisor. Thank you. I have a comment about this. This I noticed that there's a decline of reserve percentage. It's going down. I mean barely on the 3.10 barely right on the right above the

0333.0 or we correct minimum requirement >> at the first interim we were actually better off but because of the loss in revenues we are just balancing it for now just to meet the 3% but we will actually have to do some work around what we're actually going to reduce once we start developing the adopted budget for next year >> I see I like to see the number goes up to four five or six to be really uncomfortable >> absolutely >> that we don't have to worry worried about what's going to happen next if we suddenly lost revenue down the line. 3.102 like head over the water. I mean, we're right here. So, um I think every stakeholder here has to be be aware of this. >> Yeah. >> Pension that we could fall under 3.0.

034It could. It doesn't look I don't I mean it doesn't look comfortable reading these numbers because We, you know, we would like to be in a four, five, six to be able to uh manage our budget down the line. >> And of course, that possibility would be under the assumption that there aren't any reductions or changes to the current spending, right? But, you know, as we see here in the interim, we are looking at a balanced budget for this particular year or at least in terms of having um more revenue than expenditures um projected for the rest of this year. But going out years, the next two years, right? That's where those reductions have to come into play. And you know, if that's able to be adjusted to the extent that revenues exceed the expenditures,

035then then the reserves can increase, right? Ultimately, that's what would be required to try to achieve something like that. >> That's required. >> My question is for Dr. Kim. Can you um maybe contact CSBA and connect us with I know they have a virtual advocacy day possibly next week or the week after but um whatever advocacy visits are happening between now and like the states may revise or in DC so we can start to make sure that we're active in those to represent our district. >> Absolutely. And just to update this board, um I'm going to actually be attending an advocacy day in April, midappril, uh to meet with our state legislators to advocate specifically around uh fully funding the needs of our school district uh addressing uh the gaps in special education and special

036education funding along with other areas of support that we are going to need from our legislators. >> That's correct. and we'll we'll get that information from you as well. >> Yes, CSBA does two advocacy days, one in DC, one in Sacramento. >> Um, I have a quick question in regards to Prop 98 funding. Um, I believe there's been some recent news or developments around the governor's plans for Prop 98, maybe making some adjustments. If there's something you could share on that end. Um, well, what I've seen is that you're saying he's increasing the Prop 98 funding, but it's basically through the two programs, community schools and ELO. Not sure how that will change our base funding, but building those especially community schools into our Prop [clears throat] 98 means we have more flexibility with the

037funds. So, it's not just a sign on the restricted side of the books. So for that program, I can see where we can be more strategic because it will be in our Prop 98 funding. >> ELOP will continue to be a restricted program. So I'm not sure we'll have much flexibility with that one. >> Okay. >> Miss McGuire, >> do you know how the lottery is distributed? Because >> yes, >> they're restricting $82. >> So we have two port two pots of lottery funds. We have the restricted portion and the unrestricted portion. And for us, it's a very small amount. We probably receive a little over 300,000 for the restricted side. And that's for instructional purposes only. And then we have the unrestricted lottery. We receive around 700,000. And we could pretty much use it

038for anything. >> And that's annually. >> Yes. >> Okay. If I may just add on the lottery piece, um really important uh in terms of funding for instructional materials. Uh we have been um lack of better words, uh saving that funding for the last couple years in anticipation of a full adoption for our math textbooks and we're working closely ed services is with our county office. Uh we'll begin that work with our teachers designing committees and making sure we can identify the most appropriate textbooks K12 for our students. >> Mr. Peterson, >> just one question regarding ADA. Are they still counting it as the kids in the seats on a daily basis or is it based on enrollment? >> No, it's based on attendance. >> Thank you. >> Okay, seeing no additional questions, uh thank

039you very much again for your presentation, Miss Brford. This will move us into public comments. >> Okay. [clears throat and cough] Okay. Our first speaker is Robert Montes uh speaking on the budget. >> Yes. >> Oh, sure. Absolutely. Yeah. On the topic of recognizing Greg Peterson, >> thank you so much for >> I just have one question for you before I get started. Who is the chair? >> The chairperson. You have the board of education, >> right? >> Who's the president? >> The president serves as the chair. >> Thank you. Oh, okay. Sorry. Let me repeat that. Okay. So, I want to thank Mr. Greg Peterson, the board member. Thank you so much for being on the board and having some police experience. Thank you for recognizing CSEA on some of your meetings because as

040you know I am watching the meetings. I'll go back and look at them on social media. So thank you Mr. Peterson I mean Greg and uh thank you for recognizing CSA and some of your meetings. As you know we are here for the children and bargaining unit workers. Greg police experience was quite knowledgeable and he assisted with a situation at a football game. Probably saved the district lots of money. Greg Peterson knows how to approach officers and handle situation effectively. Greg also knows drama because we are there for all the children in Charter Oak, not just our own. Thank you, Mr. Peterson. Let's give him a round of applause. That's it. Now, >> and Mr. Rogers, you have a second topic. >> Okay. Okay. So, speaking on the budget, um, apparently we must not be

041on the same page because Carill just uh informed us that we're working in a deficit yet we're flying another food service supervisor position. So, apparently some people, like I said, they're not on the same page as Carill. I think they need to get with Carill and find out what's going on because uh that's a food supervisor position, a new position. How do we have money for this position? People are still leaving Charter Oak. Recently, one of our employees has quit a BIA and was told that she couldn't work for Charter Oak. I believe this is unfair. This person got kicked in the private three times, scratched in her leg, and her eye poked. This person couldn't take it anymore. She quit. She was being a punching bag. But she still wants to work for Charter

042Oak. So, I am asking you if you could just keep her working. Maybe not as a BIA, but maybe as a HIA, a noon aid, or even a daycare employee, but even after being a punching bag, she still wants to work for Charter Oak. You know, she didn't get I don't think she got that much good support from the principal. She got a bad evaluation and I felt that there should have been more support. Um the only thing I could say is that Dr. Perry came in and he was great. And you know what? He got her some stuff. And uh apparently some of the stuff was there and she didn't know it was there. So somebody said that she wasn't wearing it. So I just want to say to when they send safety equipment

043to a person, they should have them signed for it in the front office so they know that it's there. So it's not just sitting in the office, you know, cuz then if somebody goes and say, "Hey, well, they're not wearing this." Well, guess what? They never knew, you know? So that's it. And then like I said, hey, if if they're not on the same page and and uh we're not really in a deficit, then you know what? It's what I told you before. Warehouse and technology staff, give them a stipen. Thank you. Because they work hard. That's it. Thank you, Mr. Montes. >> Okay, that will conclude our public comment portion. We'll move us into discussion. Our first item for discussion, we have board policy revisions. First reading. Do we have any discussion from the

044board on the board policy revisions? Mr. Rose. >> Um, yes. Uh, board policy 1114 on social media. I believe this is fairly new board policy and um had a lot of information is a lot of muddy area you know when it come down to social media. So um I want to ask uh um Dr. large if we can see with the there the protocol that we can the district can handle the student who misuse social media are they in place or what the board approved and then the district will have to come up with the protocol to be sure that um the proper use of social media in school or off campus as well. >> So I want to know if the district is going to work on that. So you mean aside from the

045potential board policy itself but in terms of how the schools might uh >> right >> enforce necessarily or kind of operate in that fashion. >> Maybe Dr. Kim [clears throat] if you could speak to that. >> Uh yes uh we do have exist existing policy around that reflected in student disciplinary procedures. Uh there are uh ed code violations related to threats uh harassment that can be made by electronic means inclusive of social media. This particular policy that we are updating relates to district sponsored social media meaning what are the appropriate procedures for uh social media that we own and or that we are communicating on behalf of the school district. >> Oh I see. Yeah. Thank you for clarification. Sure. Additional comments or questions from the board? Okay. All right. Seeing none, uh we'll end

046up going forward with uh seeing a second reading of these board policies at a future meeting. Okay. This will bring us to our action items. We have action items under business services, budget revisions and transfers. Do we have a motion for this item? Okay, I see Mr. Peterson and a second from Mrs. Maguire any discussion Mr. I've noticed it that uh the adjustment summary I believe is on that state patient number but uh general fund unrestricted there's a lot of uh movement in that categories there's regarding of uh loss of funding I don't and there's like a decrease of $97,000 whatever that is but I want clarification is why are we moving a lot you know a bunch of them moving around and they were still short of $97,000. >> Miss Bradford, if you can

047go to that. >> So, these are all the adjustments that happened since the first interim. So, what we're doing is um recognizing changes in revenues, whether there we have more revenues or lower revenues. The same with expenditures. And so we make those changes with within each major account lines such as salaries or benefits or supplies services. So that's what we're doing. We're identifying the changes since the first interim to the second interim. >> I understand that negative 97. >> Right? So overall what that means is that we're spending more out of her fund balance. If you recall on the presentation, our fund balance went down. Our difference between our revenues, our expenses over revenues, the change is 97,000 lower than what we projected at the first interim. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. [snorts] >>

048Additional comments or questions? >> Okay, seeing none, we'll go ahead and call for the vote and Miss Roselli can join us on this. Moselli. >> Yes. >> Uh Mr. Rose, >> yes. >> Mr. Peterson, >> yes. >> Mrs. McGuire, >> yes. >> Mrs. Flores, >> yes. >> And I am also a yes. That will be approved. 5-0 with our student rep joining us. Um, that brings us to the second interim financial report. Do we have a motion for this item? >> So, moved. >> Moved by Miss Flores. We have a second. >> I'll second. >> Second by Mrs. Magcguire. Uh, questions or comments from the board? Okay, seeing none, we'll go ahead and call for the vote. Miss Roselli, >> yes. >> Mr. Rose, >> yes. >> Mr. Peterson, >> yes. >> Mrs. McGuire, >>

049yes. >> Mrs. Flores, >> yes. >> And I'm also a yes. That will be approved. 50-0 with our student rep in the affirmative as well. Under superintendent, we have CSBA delegate assembly election. Do we have a motion to bring this item forward? >> So moved. >> Moved by Miss Flores. Second. >> I'll second. second by Mrs. Magcguire. In this particular item, we have a couple of candidates for approval. We have uh Maria Caceres from Coina Valley and also Robera Pearlman from Pomona. >> Okay. >> Thank you. Thank you. Uh so for this particular item, we will be voting as a board to uh approve potentially up to two candidates to serve as delegates to the California School Board Association. And as I read a second ago, we have those two uh nominated individuals, Maria Caceres

050again from Coina Valley Unified and Robera Pearlman from Pomona Unified. Uh so we'll take each individual nomination uh on its own and we can all vote as we see fit, yes or no for each of these nominees. So, we'll begin with Maria Caceres from Coina Valley. Uh, Mr. Rose, >> yes. >> Mr. Peterson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Magcguire, >> yes. >> Mrs. Flores, >> yes. >> And I am also a yes. Our board will vote to approve Maria Caser's 50-0 from Charter Rope. And our second nominee is Robera Pearlman. >> Mr. Rose, the vote. >> Yes. >> Uh, Mr. Peterson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Magcguire, >> yes. >> Mrs. Flores, >> yes. >> And I am also a yes. I'm sorry there. This will bring us to our consent calendar. Uh we do have a

051comment on the consent calendar. Uh Mr. Portio on the subject of the minutes of February 19th discrepancies. [snorts] Thank you. Okay, I think you all have identical pages. Trying to cut chase. So, at the last board meeting 419, there was an approval for certificated personnel. Uh change of assignment Ferrar Dominic teacher 100% to teacher 60% 40%. Uh it passed 30. Also, establishment of a new position, community school secondary support. That was a single page. Go to the minutes. I've kind of taken the pages off, but the cover page is of the the minutes that you're approving today. And I think I have to where the heck is that? Okay. And if we go to page seven in the minutes, it shows change of assignment to be a range teacher 100% teacher 60% community school secondary

052support and then it also approve has in there community school secondary. Why was that changed the minutes? It was voted to have a particular uh employee for that. to undo it, you have to undo the vote of February 19th. Now, on that note, the new position, I'd like to see the job description. When was it created? And is there a memo of understanding between the bargaining unit, Charter Oak Teachers Association? Is there anything else I need to cover here? Oh, when was the position flowing? I I want to see the description and when the job was flown to approve Dominic Ferrar as a chosen candidate for the new position. That's a lot to unpack. I did it under two minutes and handed out paperwork. I appreciate response to this. Thank you. >> Thank you, Mr.

053Wu. U I'm sure we can have if you contact the district office, we can have the job description available that information. >> Also, why why was she that has that job. Now we should be having that job and who will in the back office decides oh we're going to change it. That's why you have public. >> Thank you. >> Do we have any items to be pulled from the board? >> I want to pull the minutes of the regular meeting. and pull it regular meeting. [clears throat] >> Additional items to be pulled. >> I'm sorry, my mic isn't on, by the way. Additional items to be pulled. Uh, Mr. Rose, >> thank you. B2 and B3. Item B2 under ed services and B3 to be pulled >> and B12. Okay. Additional items from the board.

054Okay. Seeing none, let's go ahead and uh ask for a motion to approve the consent calendar with the exception of items um under consent calendar B2, B3, B12, and D1. Do we have a motion? Mr. Peterson got the motion in. >> Seconded by Mrs. Maguire. Great. >> Uh okay. We'll call for the vote on the consent calendar with the exception of B2, B3, B12, and D1. Uh Mr. Rose. >> Oh, I'm sorry. Miss Roselli, please if you would join us. >> Yes, >> Mr. Rose. Yes, >> Mr. Peterson. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Magcguire. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Flores. >> Yes, >> and I am also a yes. The consent calendar, with the exception of items B2, B3, B12, and D1, uh, is approved. Uh, do we have a motion for item B2, contract agreement BMX

055freestyle team? >> I move >> Mr. Rose makes the motion. I'll go ahead and second that motion. Uh, Mr. Rose, you have any comments? >> Yes. Um, I know that the the B2 is is is a contract agreement with the BMX freestyle team LLC and we pay them through donation. Am I correct [snorts] >> for this item? That's correct. Do you know which group I mean which how how the donation where the donors are coming from? Uh [clears throat] if you can confirm I [snorts] believe this is from the PTA that's supporting this one >> former PTA at Cedar uh I believe Cedar Grove um that the money was sitting there in donations correct >> okay that's fine it needs to be documented in the um the meeting I mean it [clears throat] need to

056be documented because donation from who it could be anyone so I um so you were saying it's coming from a former PTA GA >> correct ju >> just to cl clarify we do accept on a separate line item donations from every various people this is from the school sites donation funds so that whatever has been accumulated over the years is what they're drawing from um in terms of paying for this particular activity I have no problem with that it's just that and we have to approve who do we get donations from the board have to approve be more specific so I want to amendments to add >> the donations from the retired PGA. >> Um, >> so I I think maybe there could be a little bit of confusion here on the end of we

057would be approving the re receiving of donations and then separately in this case this is going to be the spending of that money but in this particular case it wasn't a direct donation for this particular purpose. It was a fund of accumulated donations from which Cedar Grove will then be using funds to apply for this particular activity. So the information in terms of approving the donation has already been done. >> But they had to be recorded correctly. >> All all donations are recorded. This usually every month under business services we'll have a line item for this board to take action on donations that are received. Unfortunately, this month we don't have any donations. Uh so to clarify for Cedar Grove, they've accumulated donations over the course of the years of which donations can be utilized

058for various purposes to support kids. They are identifying the use of donation funds in their account to support kids through this BMX activity. But to be assured, they received those or those funds that they received did go through the appropriate approval from this board. Dr. Agal, I want to clarify with this. When we approve the contract agreements, those had to be more specific and who do we get the money from or specific who donated to the contract because we ultimately we responsible for anything that happened for the contract. So I'm asking you are we supposed to have a name name of the person or the group who's who's donating to this uh >> who's paying for >> activity activities >> who's paying for it right >> who paid for it. Yeah. >> Right. And so

059you want to know who's paying for it and where those funds came from. I I want to add we should document in the in the on the agenda saying that the donations from retired PGA teacher whatever so >> should be more specific. >> I think there there still could be kind of a little bit of an issue here with that because I mean this is a contract that is being entered upon with the district because components of the district in this case Cedar Grove site is choosing to bring this activity and entering into the contract. So the contract would be with the district essentially. But in terms of the funding for it, right, there is not a particular one donation for this particular item. So there wouldn't be a particular person or donor [clears throat]

060to have listed as funding this for this particular activity. MCU comment. >> I was I was going to say and for the donation we're talking about in general as a board, we have already approved the acceptance of said donation in prior meetings. So, they just have a pot of money that they're choosing to spend that we've already approved. >> This is under their donation funding funding account. No different. They have a title one account. They have a community schools funds account. And so, they're drawing from the donation fund account whereby they've received funds over the course of years at at which this board over the course of years has received those funds or taken action to approve those funds. And those are discretionary funds based on the school site. >> Correct. >> Okay. Thank you,

061Mr. Rose. Um, let's call for a vote on this particular item. This is item under consent calendar uh 16B2, contract agreement with BMX Freestyle. Uh, Mr. Roselli, >> Yes. Uh, Mr. Rose, >> No. Mr. Peterson? >> Yes. Mrs. Magguire? >> Yes. Mrs. Flores? Yes. >> Yes. And I'm also a yes. That motion will pass 41 uh with our student representative joining in the affirmative. Uh do we have a motion for contract agreement with Pacific Fundraisers? This is item B3. >> I'll move. >> Mr. Rose will move. Uh I'll go. Oh, Mr. Peterson will second the motion. Comments. >> Yes. uh on page 10 on the contract exhibit B [crying] it said there is no financial impact. However, someone handwritten the note here and it's not clear what it says here, but I'm going to do

062my best to read this off to the board member and see you can recognize the way right said Clint quote Clint PTA will keep 65% of the dollar if I'm reading correctly collects and will receive and I'm it's not clear clear And there's no choose for the event. It's not it's it's not clear. The contract has to be clear. Clearly stating what is what is going to happen and and also it's handwritten. Was it handwritten after the contract was signed before the sign? [clears throat] I don't know. Uh I'm not comfortable the way it was contract was written that way. Mhm. [snorts] >> That's I want to express my concern. I have reservation about that kind of contract being made before the board. >> Mrs. McGuire, >> um I can speak from experience with this

063vendor in particular. Um as a former member of the PTA at Glen Oak, uh what's written in that section are the concessions of the actual agreement. So what happens is uh the PTA keeps 65% and the uh company will keep 35% of sales. Um and then in in uh exchange for that 35% they'll offer an incentive to [clears throat] the school prizes, dance parties, etc. at no charge to the PTA. And that's what that note uh is describing there. It actually says there there was no charge for events. [snorts] Um, and I'm familiar with this company, too. This was at a >> they do a lot of the fundraisers for our elementary school campuses. >> Just to clarify, the the contract for this is not any particular services we're paying for. Uh, we're taking this

064because they're hosting an assembly and anytime we have an outside vendor speaking to our students, uh, we have to have board action for it. And so in this case, they're doing a kickoff for a fundraiser the PTA is organizing. Uh this board's taking action because we're having an outside group speaking to our students. >> I mean, I have no problem how might be spent, but the way the contract was written, nothing that's to me is, you know, it wasn't done right. That's what I'm saying because I could read the last sentence and that helps me that um not you know the contract was not clearly stated how we funed or we did a donation or whatever. >> I got >> Yeah, Mr. McGuire. [snorts] >> Okay, I got that. >> I think that's fair that

065we ask for um any addendums to be either typed or legibly written for our consideration. Yeah, I think that's important to have the district take that under impisement when they receive contract or any language relating to contract. >> Absolutely. >> Is this contract PTA and >> are they the ones who put that contract? >> Yet again, correct. So the contract that we're taking for this in terms of their it's because they're giving an assembly to our kids and you guys are taking approval for that. >> Right. So our action approves their presence to provide the assembly. any particular contract is directly between the PTA. >> That's correct. >> Okay, great. Additional comments or questions? >> Thank you. All right, we'll go ahead and move for the vote here. Uh, Mr. Roselli, >> yes. >> Mr.

066Rose, >> no. >> Mr. Peterson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Magcguire, >> yes. >> Mrs. Flores, >> yes. >> I am also a yes. That will pass 41. uh with Miss Rosselli joining us in the affirmative. This will take us to item 16B12, contract agreement, Megan Stone DO, Inc. Uh do we have a motion for this item? Mr. Peterson makes the motion. We have a second. >> Second by Mrs. Flores. Thank you. Uh comments or questions from the board. >> Mr. Rose, >> uh I'm glad you pull it out. Uh I [clears throat] would absence. No, you don't want to. >> Oh, this is item B12 contract agreement. >> Oh, yeah. I have a question about medical the contract. I think we paid we're going to pay out 48,000 that is related to medical billing. >>

067Am I correct? >> Yes. >> Yeah. And then are we getting money back from the medical? We do receive some funds [snorts] from medical >> some or all >> uh some um it depends. Sometimes we'll get quite a bit of funds but then they'll audit it and most of the funds are for prior years and so it doesn't come in the way we budget it and if even if we get a lot of funds they do audit and they'll take back funds but we do have sufficient funds to be able to pay this. >> Thank you. That's all. >> Thank you Mr. Rose. Any additional comments or questions? Okay, we'll go ahead. Oh, do you have a comment, Mr. Rosselli? >> Uh, yeah, just a question. What is this uh contract agreement for? Is it

068for staff members or just the community in general? >> Dr. Cam, if you could provide some clarity. >> Good question, Heather. So, really what it is is that we submit for billing for services through medical reimbursement. And so, in order for us to do that, we have an authorized medical doctor, who Dr. Stone would be in this case that will authorize that we're appropriately submitting those uh reimbursements. >> Okay, thank you for that clarification. >> Yes, but not a staff and we're not employing her in any way. Good question. >> Additional comments or questions? >> Okay, seeing none, we'll go ahead and move for the vote. Um we'll begin with Miss Rosselli. >> Yes. Uh Mr. Rose, >> yes. >> Mr. Peterson, >> yes. >> Mrs. McGuire, >> yes. >> Mrs. Flores, >> yes. >>

069And I am also a yes. That will pass 50-0 with our student rep in the affirmative as well. And this will bring us to item 16D1, uh, minutes of the regular meeting of February 19th. Do we have a motion to bring this item? >> So moved. >> Moved by Miss Flores. Do we have a second? >> Oh, no. Second. >> Second by Mr. Rose. Comments and discussion. >> I will be abstaining from this item because I was absent. >> Okay. Miss Flores will be abstaining. Addition. I was we'll vote for the abstain because I was absent as well. >> Okay. Also absent. Um and then with the discrepancy indicated here on this particular item, um it appears perhaps an outdated version of that particular document. Can we actually have that amended to be updated and

070included to reflect accurately what was voted on? >> Absolutely. Yes. >> Okay. So, we'll probably have to bring that back at a future meeting. We won't be able to take action for that amendment. >> That's great. >> Okay. Uh, in fact, I think just to make sure I want to make sure I need a motion for that amendment. Okay. >> Do we need to adjust that or is this simply >> more clerical to accurately reflect what the >> table it until the next meeting? >> Yes, we also need to make sure that it's updated as well, right? Not simply just tabled. >> So, I want to make sure >> for the amendment. >> Yeah. So in this case, uh let's go ahead and and I will make a motion to amend the minutes to reflect

071the uh Dominic Ferrar's reassignment. Do we have a second for that motion? >> I'll second. >> Okay, cool. Thank you for the second. I think I had Miss Magcguire on that. Uh and again, this is just to reflect accurately, not adjusting what was actually uh taken action on at the previous meeting, but to ensure that the minutes do reflect the actual action of the previous meeting. Uh, we'll go ahead and vote on that. Uh, Miss Roselli. Oh, sorry. I see a com. >> I have a comment. >> Mr. Ros, >> on why you want to make an amendment to add his name? >> Well, we want to make sure that we are adjusting the minutes accurately. >> So, my question is what happened? Why would the change in the minute? >> It's clerical error. It

072was not updated to what was actual action that was taken during the meeting. Um, no. I mean, no, you I don't know. I don't know if that's a clerical error in my I don't know. I have no idea. I first of all, I want to know how that positive work for this petition because uh >> well, so Mr. Rose, >> the new petition, community school secondary supports provider. Um I want to know how that person work. How do how did you end up selecting Diamond F for that position? >> Sure. Dr. Kim if you want to provide some uh comments on the process of flying the position and selecting a candidate. >> Sure. Uh Dr. Bond actually has been well versed in this because he's been working with um both uh the school site, their

073community schools funds along with uh input from COEA. So through the um the school site leadership um led by the principal, they've identified funds that are in their community schools to um help assist with things um uh a staff member can help um with part of their day um dedicated directly to services for students and their parents um revolving around attendance and different things. So, we flew that position internally because um it was a short not a full position. It was a 40% and it wasn't wasn't starting until second semester. [clears throat] So, that was flown. Um he did interview for that position and attain that position. >> Wasn't what the was uh the contract CG contract follow the in the teacher contract there steps follow to go with that follow through with the contract

074that just >> in the way it was flown or the way that >> Yes. So the first time we flew it, we flew it internally just within uh the high school because the way that the master schedule works, we needed a an individual from within the school. That is not actually um the way the contract uh reads. The contract is for all staff um all unit members. So it was refflown again a second time. The second time it was opened up to all um certificated staff to apply for it. So he actually interviewed for that position twice. >> So he's the only candidate. No, there was another internal candidate at the high school the first time and then there was another candidate from another school the second time, but he did go through the process

075twice. Okay. >> So my what about his uh position as an athletic director? I mean [clears throat] he had 40% what is the 40% teaching position. He has teach 60% of the class, right? He had my understanding he has 60% and 20 I don't know the others for athletic director. Am I right? >> He he still is an athletic director of the school. So these are um various responsibilities he has one of of which he has two release periods for athletic director the athletic director role. He has in this case um the community schools two release periods and I believe he teaches one period of athletics um for sixth period. So how many class he teaching right now one class >> and then he's getting this position. So he had then there no class to

076teach right? No, essentially it's a teacher on special assignment uh for the responsibilities outlined in the community schools component of which there is a job description uh similar to an athletic director. There's a job description uh that he's responsible for adhering to. >> Okay. I'd like to have a copy of this job description. >> I Mr. Peterson, >> I can do that. >> Okay, good. and the firm uh the position required an administrative credential. >> Yeah. >> Didn't require an administrative credential. >> So the 60% and the 40% they're all teaching they're all teacher assignments. So it adds up to 100%. His >> his assignment is still um under the teaching umbrella. >> All right. Thank you. >> Additional comments or questions? Okay. And so for clarity, we'll be voting on amending the minutes to

077reflect uh accurately uh the action that was taken at a previous meeting, including the name of Dominic Ferrar in that position uh instead of TBD. Uh we'll call for the vote on that particular item. >> So to clarify, we voted on the change and then on the rest of the minutes or is it one? >> So first we're voting on just the change to the minutes and then that we'll have to bring back at a future meeting for revision or for approval. So, >> or could we still approve in this meeting? >> Can I vote on >> this item since it was brought up last meeting? >> You're requesting an amendment. Requesting an amendment to an action of which we're not going to vote for. So, would of you guys would take action on andor

078abstain from our presence. do it to to record that we request an amendment. But just to clarify, not sure not taking action on the actual >> on the minutes themselves. Yeah. Okay. So again, for clarity, what we'll be voting on is the amendment of the minutes to accurately reflect the action that was taken at the previous meeting. And so anybody would feel free to vote on this. You're voting so that it accurately reflects the action that was taken at the last meeting. >> Okay. Mir, >> we could also uh move to changes and make the changes here. >> Okay. >> Um and that might be cleaner that way as we'll understand who should be voting here. >> Okay. In that case, uh if we combine those essentially into one motion, um then if it includes

079the approval of the minutes, any individuals who were planning to abstain because they were not present for those minutes then would continue to abstain for a motion such as that. Okay, we can do that. All right. Um so the current motion on the table is we are going to be moving to amend the minutes and approve the minutes in showing Dominic Ferrar in that position instead of TBD. Okay. Call for the vote. Mr. Roselli, >> yes. >> Mr. Rose, >> abstain. >> Mr. Peterson, >> Yes. Mrs. McGuire, >> Yes. Mrs. Flores, >> Abstain. And I am also a yes. So that will pass three uh with two abstensions. Uh and Mr. Roselli joining us in the affirmative. All right, that was our last item. That will bring us to board comments for the evening. We'll

080begin with Mr. for Rose. >> Yes. Uh the reason I folk know on both of the contract because it had to be done right. It had to be done right. It had to be clear, consist and in in in legal documents. It's going to be a legal documents. The board is ultimately responsible for all contract submitted by the district administrator. We're responsible to make sure the contract had covered the I and the T in places. I'm not happy what I see. There was written on the contract. I don't even know it was written before or after was contract with sign and then the donation where we from. I understand what you're saying. I don't know if you understand where it's coming from. I'm talking about the contract itself. it need to be clear consistent and

081that we can be able to know where the money is coming and going. That's my my concern with contracts. Um I also had information about the school. Uh I you know there was concern about the state budget where uh where people need to have a better understanding where the money's coming from. All the money that come that that we use here just for uh what do you restricted and unrestricted and other program all the are all from the state same level you know that's where we get our money >> and once we receive the money we have to look at our budget and spend it wisely because there's no more money money no more money coming in from the state beyond that. So if people have a concern about budget cut, it's not on us.

082It's on Sacramento. We can hear listen to but our hands are tied because all monies come from the city level up in Sacramento. So if you have a concern about budget cut um especially related to school, then we need to con then we all need to contact our legislators up in Sacramento. tell them and for me my for my perspective don't cut school budget don't we need the money to serve our student every one of them so I just wanted to heads up on that and there's an article in this magazine mentioned about where the money's coming from and how we should uh reach out to legislator not to make any more cuts to education back to Thank you, Mr. Rose. Mr. Peterson, >> and uh congratulations to Cedar Grove on winning the March Madness

083tournament. I think it's like their second or third time winning it. Something's in the water over there. Uh but congratulations to the kids. Uh as Mr. Montist was talking about with the drama program, Spongebob's coming up and I believe just about all the tickets are sold out for all the shows. Uh, so they're doing a great job in promoting it. They're putting in a lot of work during school, after school. Uh, it's going to be fun to fun show to watch. Spring break. Can't get here quick enough. For some reason, this second semester is just dragging for me. I don't know if it's dragging for you, but oh my goodness. >> Are you counting the days, Heather? [clears throat] >> Count down. >> It is dragging. But, uh, I know the kids are tired. I

084know the teachers are tired. I know the staff's all tired. Uh, but we got spring break coming up. Hope hopefully we can get recharged and get moving for the last push. Uh, thanks to Carell and her team for all the information and all the hard work you guys put in uh to make it understandable for us. So, thank you. And with that, I think that's it. >> Thank you, Mr. Peterson. Mrs. Magguire. >> Uh good evening and happy uh women's history month to everyone. Um first thing I read a press release about California Distinguished Schools. We weren't on there. I want to know how we get on there so that we can get on there in the future. Um because we should be. Um, two, um, I wanted to give a shout out to our

085board member Heather for asking a question at today's board meeting during Women's History Month. >> Yes, >> thank you for that. That was great. Um, which brings me to um, Women's History Month and I dressed up because I want to talk about who who do I want to talk about today? >> Ruth Bader Ginsburg. >> That's right. Ruth Bader Ginsburgg that she was the second woman uh who sat on our Supreme Court. She was Supreme Court justice. Um and she uh was appointed in I believe. Um and she stayed on the Supreme Court for 27 years. Um and she was a fierce advocate for women's rights. Uh fun fact, even before being a Supreme Court justice, she was a very uh fierce and feisty attorney. And uh she helped pass the law that allowed women

086to get credit cards and mortgages without a man co-signing. And that was in just like 1974. Like this was not that long ago where we couldn't [clears throat] even get credit cards. uh and one of her uh mantras where uh was women belong wherever decisions are being made. Uh which is why I think it's very timely that today you participated in the meeting. Uh and one quote that I think about a lot that she said was whatever you choose to do leave tracks and that means you have to make sure that there's always someone uh who can follow behind in the steps uh that you did. Uh so I wanted to make sure I shouted her out today. Uh lastly, oh and her nickname is the notorious RBG because she's cool like that. Um and

087also I just want to thank our community members. Uh accountability uh and transparency is something that all of us stand by. Uh so definitely appreciate uh calling out uh errors in our minutes. We want to make sure we get those fixed uh because we want to make sure we do everything in order. And so we appreciate that. Uh and I think I can speak on behalf of all of us with that. Um, and uh, it's almost the end of the school year. I can't believe it. It's coming, right? And so, uh, it's time for our students to graduate, begin the next phases of their lives. Uh, and it's just really an exciting time all over uh, the district right now. That concludes my remarks. >> Thank you, Miss McGuire. Mrs. >> Oh, wait. I'm sorry.

088I have one more. Women's History Month. We have a teacher who is going to be on SiriusXM tomorrow uh because she loves BonJov and she's going to be a guest DJ on uh BonJov Sirius XM tomorrow [snorts] at 400 PM Pacific time. >> Miss Shaki. >> I love [laughter] >> Excellent. >> Very cool. >> Thank you, Mrs. McGuire, Mrs. Flores. >> Happy Women's History Month. I want to acknowledge our amazing women leaders that we have here. Dr. Mustafa, Miss Brford, Mrs. Maguire, um, and the rest of our amazing team that helps. And of course, Miss Mikeel, who keeps us in check and keep make sure that this place keeps running, stays running. So, thank you. And then, Heather, I also want to thank you. You have just a great spirit about you. You're always in

089a great mood. You're always smiling. So, thank you. And echoing Mrs. Magcguire's comments, you know, maybe someday you'll be in in one of our seats. So, wishing you the best. Fingers crossed for those college apps. You're going to do great wherever you decide to go. So, thank you for joining us as our student rep. Um, and graduation's coming. I think we're counting down the days. And I've been in this district for 20 years with four children. So, it's bittersweet for me to see my last one graduate. But, um, it's been a great journey. So, very excited for that. Uh, go and see Spongebob. I hear it's going to be phenomenal. Um, and just thank you everyone for for being here this evening. and uh let's have a great end of the year with all the

090festivities and let's not cry too too much. >> Thank you, Mrs. Flores. Um it was pointed out earlier we had ReadAcross America week going on. Um and that was really exciting and fun. I got a chance to be at Bedillo on the Monday of that particular week, which happened to be mustache Monday. And so I I knew that ahead of time and so I made sure to grow out my my mustache and my beard and show up with a [laughter] I wish I could have planned it that well, but it was fun. And we saw kids running around with a bunch of fake mustaches on and that was really fun and entertaining. Uh that was great. Uh and I got a chance to go to Washington as well uh to read to some of the

091kids a TK class. That was really fun. Um I went over to my folks place and picked up an old book of mine, a book called George Shrinks that was given to me by uh someone in my family in I I guess this would have been 1992. Um and so it was a book that I had when I was in kindergarten over at Willow. And I thought that was really fun and it was cool. The kids got a kick out of it. It's a good It's an old reading rainbow book if you don't know it. So look it up and you can even find it on YouTube. They have kind of like an animated version of it. Something like that. It's kind of fun. Um let's see. Before our next meeting, our choir will have

092traveled to New York to sing at Carnegie Hall. Uh so wishing them the best of skill. They always have it. Um they're going to do great and they're going to represent us so well there. I'm really excited. Uh jealous of anybody that gets to go watch them this year. That's going to be a great show. and Heather will be there as well. Exactly. So, that'll be fantastic. [snorts] >> Um, thank you also for mentioning the City of Hope blood drive at Charter Oak High School. Um, just kind of as a general comment for the community as a whole in addition to any local drives that occur. Uh, you can always reach out to City of Hope. They have a blood donor center called the Amini Center on their campus in Dhy. Um, and you can

093travel there. You can donate blood um at any time that you're able to get an appointment and they're always happy to make appointments because they're always in need, of course. Um, and beyond donating whole blood, you can also consider donating platelets, for example. Um, it's a little bit of a longer time commitment, um, maybe around the order of two hours or so. Um, but really important donation, especially utilized for a lot of the cancer patients that are seen there at City of Hope. So, uh, consider it and see if it fits in your schedule. That'd be great. Um, and then lastly, career day yesterday. That was, uh, quite an event. Really great. Um, got a chance to participate in that. that was really fun and meet so many of the students. I'm really pleased to

094see that all of the students get a chance to participate. It's not something geared specifically towards the seniors or the upper classmen, but you know, it's really across the board and and it's valuable to get the freshmen as well exposed to a lot of these possibilities and different things and uh and so thank you to all the professionals that were able to participate and to the counseling staff uh for putting on such a great event. Uh with that, we'll go ahead and uh announce our future meeting, April 16th, 2026. And uh we do not require any close session tonight.
