So, we'll call the meeting to order at 4:02. So, welcome everybody. Eric, it's nice to see you in our meeting. We don't usually see you in our our education meetings. That's kind of fun. >> I'm glad to be here. >> Um, okay. So, we'll go straight to public comment. I don't see anybody from the public, but does anybody have any comment? Nope. We will move along. I don't have any opening comments, so we'll get right to the instructional continuity plan. Um, yes, instructional continuity plans. >> Take it away, Paula. >> All right. Well, thank you. Now, I don't have really a lot. I did send you both you and Dr. Dr. De Jesus um a PDF um one of the agenda and two of of you of have a flyer called Actton Auadulsa USD school

school closure preparedness plan. Did you guys get a chance to take a look at that? >> So I know we had kind of discussed like what that might look like. I reached out to Michelle. She's really good on Canva and based on what we put on paper, right? We said we but then like you said where do you find that? Um Michelle created this. We have a couple at the bottom there's some stuff cut off that she's gonna I'm going to ask her. Hey, can you like just lower that? So, we'll correct that. Um, but I wanted to share with the team here to get your input. Um, how do you feel or think about it? Do you think we need to make any changes? Is a good Is it a clear communication piece for

our community? >> I I replied to your email. I think it's fantastic. George, did you get a chance to look at it? >> Yeah, I did. I think it's great. Is there any way that we can put that up on >> like share the screen or I don't know put it up to the camera or something just so it's in the video the recording of what we're talking about. I think it's fantastic. I think it's to the point. Um >> and I I think it >> unless you want to share screen. >> No, whatever. No, I thought you would share yours. >> There it is. Bam. Thank you. That's perfect. I really like it. That's good, Caesar. Thank you. >> I didn't create it, so you know, but I I thought that, you know, Michelle,

she's really good at this, so I thought I thought it was clear, but again, it's, you know, I see these things a lot, so I want to make sure it seems clear to everybody else. >> Yeah. And on in the in the one that you shared with us, the digital form, there's nothing cut off. So, it must have been just when it printed that it got cut off. >> Okay, good. So down in the bottom you can read like on mine it says call and I for >> your questions. >> Okay. Okay. Good. Well that's even better then we don't have to anything. I put notes on it so we're good. >> I I if I may I have a question regarding the one page. I think it's great. It's quick. It's at a glance.

um the the notation at the bottom I just want to make sure that somewhere um do we indicate that uh you know principles before you make let's say the all call per se uh to staff students uh parents is there is there a a channel of communication in terms of district office who to contact >> yeah we're all on the same page for the um instructional cond principles known to reach out to you actually >> um and get direction from from the district before any decisions are are made. Um, and somewhere and I thought it was on here in the event of school closure students I thought it said that for like even for parents not to make any changes until they heard from school by 7 a.m. And I don't see it on here.

So I I'll talk to only because when this goes to like if this is in the office it needs to clear that this only would be enacted if the principal or school district sends you a notice by 7 a.m. and that's the intent. So, I'll see if we can add a line in here saying, you know, this is in the event that you get a call from the school district superintendent or your school principal, but the school principles know because we would have to orchestrate this because this is again under certain circumstances this may not actually work in the way that we put it. >> Sure. It depends on the circumstanc. >> Yeah. >> But I >> So the al the the alternate site um is that when the school closes, we're going to have

uh whatever site is open that the students transferred to that site and then if so, are they being transferred by the bus or the parents coming to pick them up and take them to another school? >> Yeah, it probably will. It really will probably take a little bit of or orchestration on our time, but we would probably try to keep the buses running. It may depend on what the emergency is. Um, but I mean in the best case scenario, yes. Like normally when there's something like this going on, Dr. Sahakian's talking to Ernesto and Yolanda. He'll get a hold of me. Often we had text messages with all three principles super early in the morning to figure out like this just happened. What are we going to do? And we would then look at this

and we would follow guidance from Dr. Sahakian as it relates to what the plan would be. And then if that if that would if we could include busing then it would and then we would make sure to communicate to our families that this is the situation and this is how we're how we're responding to to it on that certain day. >> Gotcha. Thank you. >> From what I understood is this is if school is closed before 7 a.m. but not if school closes in the middle of the day. If school closes in the middle of the day, they stay on their campus. Correct? Or if school if something happens in the middle of the day, students stay on their campus. We're not going to bust students at like noon to another school. Correct? >> And

if something like an emergency happened that we had to close a campus in the middle of the day, we would use our reunification plan and parents would pick up at the reunification st like like the the power outage incidents, right? >> You're talking about >> that could be an example. we decided to close a school in the middle of the afternoon. We would call parents to pick up. >> Okay. >> Like we wouldn't send them over to Metal Arc in the middle of the day or over to Vasquez. That would be probably a little too disruptive. >> Yeah. And this would be for say school is closed because we know that there's a power outage that happened at midnight. So Vasquez is going to be closed for the day. Students can stay home, work online.

If a student wants to come to school and work in a classroom or in a room using school, internet, Chromebooks, all of that, then they would go to um >> High Desert. If High Desert is closed, then they would go to just so that we have a space available for them to work if they wanted. But the majority of the students would be working online from home in the event of a closure. >> Probably. Yes. And as it relates to buses, if they were running our our buses often go to all three sites. So making that change like working with Ernesto and the transportation team to make the change if busing was available. I think we'd be able to do that. >> Awesome. >> And to go back to Dr. Jesus's comment about you know

would it be parents transporting their children um in the morning to the alternate sites and so forth so on like Paula said you know we we'll work with of course um but you know that'll be a communication piece that goes out from our transportation lead to the parents um as well I think that I mean that that's part of the plan for the communication from transportation out to to families that are being impacted I would say um realistically just given the routes And if this is a typical morning and this announcement goes out for an alternate, um the buses are pretty full in terms of their routes, um I I would probably lean towards parent transportation just to make it a little bit more seamless and for students not to be late to school. >>

Okay, >> that's Thank you. >> Well, that that clears clears it up. I think Brianna cleared it up for me. I was thinking that this is during a, you know, when school was in session and they had to be transported, but I think Brianna was right when she cleared it up for me where this is before the 7:00 um uh school start time. So, thank you. >> Um, and then if there are no are there any other questions on this um handout? >> I like it. >> All right. Thank you. Um, and just as a short I just wanted to provide a short uh update on short-term independent study. Uh, it's we're we've worked out quite a few of the kind of little hiccups along the way. Teachers are turning in homework. Parents are turning

turning in for the most part. Um, you know, kids don't get credit until the kids turn in. It's being used a lot. There was some question whether virtual academy could use it and I said absolutely. So, Miss Le was thrilled um because you know kids on virtual academy get sick too sometimes and so um we have a lot of families at all three sites using that and it's pretty easy um they met just started changing the program so we can run reports based on those codes in areas to see how many like how many a month are being uh used um I don't have those numbers right now but I know that there's ways to run reports to to find out that information but overall just wanted to share with the team that it's that

is actually going pretty good. um the addition of the support at the sites from what I'm hearing back from the sites is that that's going well and um we've had a lot been helped to have a lot more conversations just around attendance and attendance um daily you know call making calls home how are we doing that putting notes into areas when you run the daily summary reports it's super easy to I can run them every day and see who's actually had a call home because there's a little notes thing and So, I've gone over those with all three sites a few different times. And so, we've really created some better like kind of forms of communication. And so, I think that we're doing better in that area as well. Um, as I just wanted to

give you guys also a update on Saturday school. Thank you for being here. Um, Saturday school/attendance recovery. We have that up and going. Our first one was on January 21st. We had 21 kids on February uh the last one was on Okay, I might have the dates wrong because I wrote February 24th, 24 kids. It was last Saturday. We had 24 kids. So, we actually had more kids this last time. Um so, we're recording that in Aries as it's an ADA makeup. So, we recovered the ADA um for the for CalPAD's purpose. The kids still keep their absence. You don't go in and change their absence. You really can't change that record. But we the way we decided to try to do it was to use one campus. We looked at kind of different things.

We're like, "Okay, let's try this." So, we're using Metallark and we have our K through six together and our 7 through 12 together. Um, and our admin have been rotating. Uh, Dr. Smith did it the first time in January. Um, there is custodian on site. Somebody's opening the campus in the morning. the kids are getting meals and the this last Saturday Miss Van Orum did it and so it's it's going pretty I mean she had called me and thought well we don't we didn't have very many people RSVP only like six and I said no let's have it anyways because it's attendance if we're if we cancel it that's a sends the wrong message and 24 kids showed up so that's going really well and we have two more this year and so next year

we'll you know I think we have a better process in place because we've done it a few times, but we'll be starting it more closer to the end of the year. Kids that are getting invited are kids that have been chronically absent, but we have kids just showing up sometimes that weren't even invited. They just wanted to come and we're like, "Okay." And so, and what's really cool about attendance recovery is if they don't have an absence, you can bank it. >> So, then if you are absent, we can go, "Okay, then we can go in and make the change." So there was a couple kids who did come. They weren't at the chronic absent. Like I had to go through Aries and go back like, you know, ways to find an absence for them.

So it's kind of cool. >> That is awesome. I'm I'm curious and I know you don't have it right now, but I'm curious what our attendance looks like um at this point in the school year as opposed to at this point in last school year. Um and then also broken down by schools with the added with the attendance recovery and the big push for STIS. Um all of it put together. I I'm curious to see I know that there is a jump. There has to be a jump. Um but I'm just curious to see how much it is. The last time I checked we were at 92% which is higher than we were. I was running reports on Educ Climber. So for our next meeting I what I'll do is I can pull it for

the district and then by the schools. So what's really interesting is um High Desert has done really good. They've really worked hard and they they had a all schools had a jump even this year and last year, but Metoark having kind of the most room for growth was at it was at a 16.9% decrease. So there were like double. >> Yeah. And they and they had a pretty big jump last year, too. So that's pretty it is pretty cool data. Um, so yes, we definitely are higher and I the edge climber um reports are pretty easy to read and they're just user friendly. So I'll run those reports for our next meeting. So I put monthly attendance, month-to-month percentages um and I'll see if I can get some numbers. I'll need Kai's help on that.

Um on the monthly reports, but also on the monthly attendance reports, the summaries that we run that go to the business office, it show there's a column on there that shows your increase too. So also, and we don't have these yet because we just started with the um attendance recovery, >> but when you go into Aries and you make the change to put the the student attended attendance recovery, it adds a column on your monthly summary report on your ADA. That's how you get the ADA and it goes on your um aortionment too which is the business office does. It's coming up. I don't know the exact date but um yeah I'm looking forward to and I'll share that too. So at our next meeting that that might I know we run our next reports.

They're due in a week that we closed um last the 21st last Friday. Our attendance um because we're every four weeks, right? The way the attendance runs the attendance calendar closed last Friday. So ask our our attendance clerks to, you know, take the week to get as much independent study and because that's what kind of makes them keep it open, clear as many absences as you can and then run the report and um we'll have a new column that shows number of ADA days we're recovering. So we should have that one at the next meeting, too. >> That's fantastic. >> I'm just writing. U Michelle, I saw you pop in. We looked at your um instructional continuity plan flyer and it it's fantastic. So, thank you for putting that together. We really really like it.

>> You're welcome. Sorry, I'm off camera because I'm standing here watching the Vasquez varsity baseball game. So, I'm >> Oh, nice. >> double dipping right now with my time. >> How fun. >> We are not winning unfortunately, but hopefully that will change. >> Dang. Cheer louder. Yeah, we're in the fourth inning. >> You got time. >> Very cool. Yes. So, thank you very much for that. >> All right. And thank you, Michelle, for being here. Um, so that's all I have today. That those were the three areas that I wanted to cover today. So, if you don't have any other questions, um, I don't have anything else. >> I don't have any other questions. George, do you have any other questions? >> No. Great. Okay, awesome. Thank you. Um, let's go ahead and move on

to future agenda items. Um, our next meeting is March 26th, same time, 4:00, right before the policy um, committee meeting. Um, do you have anything to suggest for future agenda items, George? >> You said that'll be the 26th, right? >> Yes. >> Yeah. I don't think I'll be here. I'll be out of the country during that time. I come back on the 26th. So, >> okay. >> Um, so Paula, we'll go ahead and put um that little dive into attendance numbers on there. That would be great. Um, and then also I wanted to start talking about um our technolit class being a graduation requirement. I know I don't remember when that was changed maybe 101 15 years ago changed from having two health classes or two semesters of health for a um requirement to having

one semester of health and one semester of financial or not financial literacy technolit um for a graduation requirement and that is different from surrounding school districts. So, I just wanted to kind of look at that and see if that's um still relevant, if kids are still um kind of needing the things that they're learning in that or if they're learning those pieces in other classes. Um just maybe get some feedback from students that have taken it. Is it helping them in high school? Is it helping them through their other classes? Because that's kind of what it was for. Um if that class is still relevant. And then I also wanted to just start the topic of um financial literacy because I've heard that that could be um coming down and as a graduation requirement for

all of California. So I just wanted to start that conversation now. I heard that could be in the next couple of years. I don't know how, you know, true that is or if that is just a rumor or if it could be something coming coming down the chain. Um, but just to start that conversation now so that we're already having the conversation if it does come and then if financial liter or technolit is not relevant then let's look at something else. if it is still relevant, let's make sure that we're keeping up with the times in the technology because, you know, things have changed and if that curriculum isn't um relevant anymore, let's look at updating what's going on in that in that class. That's kind of some thoughts that I had. >> Okay. So,

let me just clarify. So, you want to know about the techno technol lit class like for I don't Is that what the class is called? Technolith or tech lit. >> Am I making that up? >> The way you're looking at me is >> sorry recognize it. But that you know basketball >> technology literacy for the second semester of health like ninth graders take health. >> Our health class is embedded in PE. It's not a separate class anymore. So it's part of the healthcare health. >> Okay. What is technolit then? >> I don't. >> Did we get rid of that already? I I I don't want to sound dumb. I haven't heard of it even when I was there as principal, but again, like there's, you know, I don't claim to know everything. >> No, I

could be. We could have gotten rid of it and I didn't know. I know it was a graduation requirement when when my kids were there and it was >> I don't think >> we have a senior that had to take it when she was in nth grade. So, three years ago, it was a graduation requirement. >> I'm going to follow up with our counselors on that. >> Okay. I could be totally wrong. If I'm wrong and that's not even a class anymore, awesome. But let's still look at >> financial >> the financial literacy aspect. >> Financial literacy and I think it's a two semester class and it's a newer class but I'll get the information on that too and >> you know I may have our experts our counselors you know because they know >>

the doorways they know it's A throughG they you know they know the reason why they know the curriculum pieces. I will find out. I know we offer financial literacy, but it's a newer course. It's a newer curriculum. Um, so let me let me um like I will get information on both of those to you, prior. And >> yeah, that'd be great if we could just open that conversation because clearly I need some schooling in it. >> Well, >> that'd be great if we could. And then is it okay if because I I know um just timewise um I'm working on our LCAP right now and I'm meeting with our educational partners um every couple of months and this month we're going over the plan summary and some of those updates um and some of it's

again it kind of aligns with some of the data that I did at the board presentation but you know it's a a little bit more of a a little bit more of a deeper dive. I'd love to share it with you guys. Um, and if there's time, there's actually an activity that I would send you guys copies so you could do them online where we would underline, circle, and star things so that you're really kind of digging into it and asking questions or these are ahas or oh, I knew this. Um, would that be okay to add that to the agenda for next time, too? >> I think that sounds fantastic. >> Okay. >> And you could put off the stuff that I brought up for next time if that's if that's what you're working

on right now. Let's do that for the next agenda and put that other stuff off for the following month for April. That would be fine. >> Okay. I still want to know though. I can't wait till April. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Um is is there anything else for future agenda items? >> Anybody else? >> All right. Uh not hearing anything. So, we'll go ahead and um close this meeting at 4:25.
