Good evening. We call this special board meeting of the Actton Ogado City Unified School District Board of Trustees to order on February 26, 2026 at 7 o'clock p.m. Can I get roll call, please? >> Mask on here. >> Who's here? >> May here. Brianna Taxony here. Um, agenda for the special board meeting February 26, 2028. I'll go ahead and move it in. Can I get a second? >> I'll second. >> Thank you. There are no changes to the meeting agenda for February 26, 2026. >> Thank you. Discussion hearing. None. Call for question. All those in favor? >> Mascot. >> I may. >> Brianna Tony I. uh to a public participation. Do we have any public participation? >> No public comment cards pulled online or in person. Thank you. >> Three. Um close session discussion items.
We may discuss conference with labor negotiators, public employee discussion, discipline dismissal, release, conference with legal counsel, andor student matters. Uh 3B adjourned to close session. Uh, I'll go ahead and move that we adjourn at 7:01. Can I get a second? >> Any discussion? Hearing? None. Call for question. All those in favor? >> Yes. Brianna Tony Uh we reconvene the special board meeting of February 26, 2020. It's okay. I'm fine. Good selfesteem. >> Yeah, we appreciate everything you're doing and seems like that the kids are having a great time. You're having a great time. >> Teachers having a great time. So, it's a good thing. Thank you. >> I hope so. Again, >> um I really love the effort for the improved attendance. Of course, I I know I harp on attendance all the time. Um,
>> you should >> it's it is a big deal. It's it's ADA, but it's more than that. It's when you know butts are in seats, that's when kids are learning. But even if kids are there, if they're not building relationships, they don't want to learn. And one thing that I noticed throughout your presentation and in um feedback that I get back in people talking about metal arc um relationships are being built and that is more important than any grade on any test, any score, any anything that we could possibly do. Building the relationships and creating a campus where people are kind, where kids want to come to school. all those pictures with staff and students with genuine smiles on their faces. Gh made me want to cry. >> Um >> it is good stuff. So
that building the relationships is is huge. And I love the part um when you were talking about Soore and you said I got to go in and and work with tables, not I had to. That you use the words that you were able to, you got to that that was um like a privilege for you. That speaks volumes. Um, I really wish we could keep you for years and years to come. So, there's that's my vote. Um, thank you very much. [laughter] >> All in favor. Um, so thank you very much for all you're doing at Metallark. Um, one other one other thing that I did hear about you as well. um when it was raining. I used to be an aid on the playground at Metal Arc, so I know how awful rainy day
schedule is. Um, but I did hear that when it was raining and all of the kids were in the cafeteria and doing indoor lunches, um, and in the library watching movies and all that, that you were in the cafeteria with the kids and you were helping sweep up and, um, just show showing showing the students and the staff that you are with them is it's just fantastic. Thank you for all you do over there. >> It is definitely making a difference. >> It's a good time. It really is >> good. >> That's it. Okay, moving on. Facilities finance subcommittee report. >> Uh facilities and finance met this last Monday at 4M. Um we talked about the little owl's new phones u and we're working on getting those in place. Uh we also talked about a
draft lease agreement for ILE um the uh Aguodul campus and that will be coming back around. Um the other thing we discussed was the options between leasing buses and buying buses so we can replace our old fleet. Um the uh district is coming back to us with some more options and better things so we can bring them to the board in the next few weeks or next few meetings. Um and then we went over the facilities and project updates and all the good things that are happening with that. um whether it be painting roofs, um the new canopies we have, everything's going great and we have to thank Ernesto and his crew for all that they're doing. >> Yeah, just to add if everyone should go by the Vasquez campus and see all the new
shade canopies that are in place now over at the Vasquez campus. So, it's a big project and it's uh more visible of some of the projects that have been done and think everyone will appreciate. How is it? It's good. Okay, [laughter] that's good. That's good. >> Uh just a remark on the buses too. There will be a planned field trip before any recommendations made to actually take a look at the actual buses that were will be recommended to purchase. So all the stakeholders, people involved can actually get a look at them and see before they're actually purchased or decisions made. purchased or leased, one of the two. >> Okie dokie. Um, education subcommittee report. >> George, did you want to give a recap? >> Oh, sure. It was a great meeting. We had We discussed
the um the school closures. We're going to put out a parent notification, a form where I think Miss Bordon created it was a great uh way to describe what we're going to do in event of an emergency out of school. We have to shut down. You get that early 7 before 7 a.m. call saying, "Hey, the school is closed. What happens next?" So, I think it's progress in place where we can uh plan for, you know, you know, the natural disasters or whatever may occur. I know we have a lot of power outages here that really disrupt our school. So, um, this is a way we can get ahead of the game, be proactive. So, I appreciate all the efforts made to put that together. >> Um, we also talked about, um, we had an
update for, um, short-term independent study efforts and the Saturday school attendance recovery efforts. Um, we had an update from Paula. All positive. Um, I think we are on the right track there. Um and we did talk about um at our next meeting Paula is going to have some numbers and some comparisons of how we're doing now that we've um been really um focusing on different ways to get kids to come to school, different rates to recover attendance, all of that. So looking at our numbers now and where we were at this time last year and possibly the year before because we've been continuing to grow and it's fantastic. So, thank you Paula for um putting that together. Our next meeting will be March 26th at 4 o'clock before that board meeting. Um moving on, policy
and management subcommittee report. >> Well, we had another great meeting today, so I'll let Ken take this one. >> Okay. We had um some discussion about policies. The policies that staff brings forward come down from the California School Boards Association. Um the first uh set that was discussed had a lot to do with how board members attend meetings. Um you know if they're laid up in a motel room in East Jesus, Kentucky or whatever we got to do. And so we we kind of decided that it's best if we're here and there's we don't squabble and and and play undermining politics. So if three of us are here, we could probably do the district's business. Um, and then there was about how you notice people and we thought that uh putting everything on the website
and doing what we're doing now is probably pretty good. And then there was some discussion about public comment about how we could rat hole everyone into not making public comments or making them make public comments at the front of the meeting and not let anybody talk. We were not against that. We were not with that at all. is kind of a spontaneous thing. You come in here, you you you respond to the green light, you make your comment, but we're not the subcommittee process was never intended to turn this into a complete consent calendar agenda. Some school districts have that all the work is done in subcommittees and if you did speak at the subcommittee level when it come time for the whole board to discuss that there's no time for you. We're not into
that. And then finally, I went on a about how the state and whoever's in the White House and whoever is not in our district and whoever not voted does not tell us what kind of policies to roll out on a whim. We know what people voted for us expect. There are times when we as individuals may see something very different than than what this community does, but we were voted on up here to make uh representations of what is the best uh course of action for our students and I don't give a damn what's happening anywhere else. So yeah, that was it. >> Thank you. um 7H submissions. >> Thank you. So, tonight we do have a new charter petition. Da Vinci Charter School. Miss Shay Patterson, our director of charter services is with us
tonight to provide additional information. Shay, >> good evening. Good evening everyone here. Um I appreciate your time. My name is Miche Patterson.
