001Flag allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Uh Sue, can we do the roll call, please? >> Mr. Man >> here. >> Mr. Francis, Mrs. Irwin Adams, Mrs. McGinness here, >> Mr. Cook >> here, >> Mr. McCully >> here, >> Mr. Romanoitz, Mr. Pacificico, Mr. Papis >> here. >> Thank you all. >> Okay. Thanks. Um before we get started, I'd like to announce that we uh had an executive session uh where we discussed personnel issues amongst other things. Um and we just came out. Um so before we get to the meat of this meeting, uh we have a special presentation tonight. Um I'm a lifelong basketball guy, but I've converted to a
002huge wrestling fan. So, um, this is really cool to to have, uh, this young man here tonight. Go ahead, Paula. >> Sure. We're really honored to have and introduce to you, um, Gavin Campio, if you want to come up. Gavin um is a 2026 PIAA state wrestling champion. We have not had one here for 52 years. Um, Coach Campoli is his assistant coach or one of his coaches. And we have coach Joel Gilbert here as well. So, I'm gonna let coach Gilbert uh talk a little bit more about Gavin. >> Gavin had a great run in the postseason, 8-0. He had uh two falls, two technical falls, two major decisions, got its hundth win in the state semifinals. One of only 11 Altuna wrestlers to ever do that in school history along with dominating his
003opponent in the finals 9 to3. Gavin is not only a great wrestler, but he's an outstanding student. He's in advanced placement classes here at Altuna High School. He carries a 4.0 0 GPA and not only that, he's a great person. Gavin, we look for great things coming out of you in the near future and uh I'm sure these folks are real happy and we all real happy of what you've done. >> I'll say one thing, >> okay? >> I watched and I was so proud of how you won. You were a gentleman like you expected to win. There was no crazy celebration and leaping around. It was all business and I noticed it and I was very proud to be associated with you. >> So here you go, >> Val. I have something too whenever
004you can. Gavin, I just want to commend you as a mom of three younger boys. Um your hard work didn't go unnoticed and it really gave younger kids um something to look up to and not only in your work ethic but also just in how you carry yourself. um and it really gave them a taste of what victory can feel like if you put the time and work in. So, you are um a commendable role model and I hope you know that coming from, you know, a lot of people that watched you and cheered you on and I just as a mom, I want to thank you for being a role model for those younger kids. >> Thank you. >> This all yours rests have to wait till we retire to get that Hey, >>
005way to go. That's so proud. >> Thank you. >> Good job, guys. >> Okay. Uh next exciting stuff. Um, we have to uh talk about a resolution. Uh the the IU8 administration uh recommends approving the 2627 IU8 general fund operating budget that was reviewed and recommended for approval by the general operating budget superintendent committee on uh December 9th, 2025 and was approved by the Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 Board of Directors on February 26, 2026, which I'm our representative on that board. So I participated in in that discussion in approval of that budget at that level. So that being said, um I'm seeking a motion to approve uh the res uh this resolution to approve that budget for the 2627 year of the IU8. Do I have a second? Would anybody wish to discuss this? Okay.
006All in favor, please signify by saying I. Opposed. I'm an I, too. I didn't say I. Okay. Motion carries. Thanks. Next, uh, it's the opportunity to hear from our citizens. Um, at this time, I know there's one gentleman who we we'd like to recognize, Mr. Brad Berger, Goodwill of the Southern Alaganis. Um, the mic is yours. Thank you. >> Thank you so much for your time. My name is Brad Berger. I serve as a president CEO of Goodwill of the Southern Alaganis and I also since 2017 serve as the lead operator of the regional career link system and it has been our pleasure to be your guest at the library facility since 2019 colllocating with the library on your campus here and um we have a wonderful wonderful partnership with Jen at the library and
007with you working with Sue and and the board and um superintendent and um I wanted I I wanted to tell you a little bit about some of the wonderful things that occur because we are on on your campus and recently I found uh one of our staff had actually created a program. um we occupied a second floor mezzanine uh in the in the library facility and the program that she developed was from us being up there on that second floor uh mezzanine. So I want to I want to bring up Tiffany from our Goodwill Career Link staff and she's going to tell you a little bit about how she works with your students. >> Good evening everybody. Thank you so much for having us here tonight. Um I want to talk about this program that
008I created. It's called the hub. It is an afterchool kind of career club. We talk about workforce development uh workshops. We talk about writing resumeumés, how to be the best that you can be. We have um post-secary schools come in. We have different industry presentations from employers across the county. We've had, I believe, don't quote me on this, but I believe, I know this is being filmed, every post-secary school in this area. We have had PennH Highlands, St. Francis, Penn State, um, GACTC come and speak with the students. We've had um a Navy recruiter. We've had construction workers come in and speak with the students. We've had budgeting classes. I've taught them about taxes, unfortunately. and they are just so excited to come in and learn life skills. Um I have about a group of
00910 that come every week. It's every Wednesday after school and I just started yesterday was the first uh session in Bellwood. We branched out and we've served over 30 individual uh middle and high schoolers um in the Altuna area and yesterday we served nine right off the bat. So, that was really exciting. Over in Bellwood, uh we've gotten approval to do uh field trips with the youth and the group in Altuna now is helping us with our job fairs. So, they're going to be youth ambassadors for that, which they're very excited to miss the school day for that. Um I guess I'll open the floor up for any questions. Sure. Sure. So, the way our cubicles are set up, we're right along the mezzanine where it overlooks the uh youth area where there's their own
010computers playing Roblox all afternoon and they get a little rowdy and I'm like, I wonder if we can do something productive with this. And I had just started in August. So, I'm like, surely we do something and we didn't. So, I'm like, okay, well, how about I start something? And so I figured if they can at least sit in this room up here with us, they don't even they can work on their homework. They can talk to their friends, but they're surely going to be getting something out of it. So more and more people kept coming and they've been excited. Um today and last week we had to cancel and kids still showed up. Um they we have a group chat and they text like where why aren't we meeting today? Although, you know, I
011told them why we weren't meeting, but they're kids and they don't listen super well. Um, but they're just so excited and then this can help them gain awareness of our career link services that we have for our youth. So, a lot of them are getting involved in our summer work programs. They're asking for help just job searching. Um, they are making their resumes and they're really excited about their potential for their future. If nobody has anything, thank you so much. Well, thanks for all that that you do. That's great. And um it it's greatly appreciated. That's awesome. Do you guys work with the Greater Altuna Career Technology Center students? >> We do. Yes. >> Awesome. They're right behind you, so makes sense. >> They are. We're good neighbors. >> That's good to hear. >> Terrific.

We were provided a list of uh personnel items. Administration recommends approval of the attached personnel agenda items. Um I saw some some coaches I was this you know Mr. Belli and um do I have a motion to approve item 9A? Do I have a second? So for discussion is Mr. Belli done. I see >> Mr. Belli has uh has submitted his his resignation retirement letter from coaching. Replacing
020him will be extremely difficult. Um we've had some other coaches that are starting families and doing some different things that are that are uh hopefully temporarily uh stepping away from the coaching for for a little bit, you know, for a little while. But uh in addition to that, this is the season where we start to see uh retirements and things coming in as well. And I can tell you just on tonight's agenda alone, we have literally hundreds of years of dedicated service to public education in a variety of different ways. Um, with retiring teachers who and and counselors in other areas that uh have given, you know, quite a bit of themselves uh to the out community and they're going to be sorely missed and very difficult to replace. >> He has to be the

And and Fred will be will be sorely missed. And we we hope to see him around events even though he won't be serving in an official capacity. No, Fred dedication, commitment. All in favor of approving items 11 A through D, please signify by saying

031no will count. Um do we each have one? >> Yes. Do we have to agree as a board to >> I don't think agree on >> Okay. Um and for the record, I'm our representative on that board. You can replace me if you'd like. No, I'm just kidding. Um all right, so that's it under 12. Um, so I will seek a motion to approve items 12 A through K and then L sort of individual, I would think. >> Yes. >> Okay. So, seeking a motion to appro approve items 12 A through K. >> Do I have a second, Michael? Any discussion? Um, I'd just like to recognize Reliance Bank. um for stepping up and and helping us uh fund some of the changes at the fieldhouse. I think it's uh this will be a trend
032moving forward naming rights to high school fields and gymnasiums and in order to you know help subsidize the cost of operating these facilities. So, uh, I truly appreciate, uh, Reliance Bank stepping up to help us with the Fieldhouse, which celebrated its 50y year anniversary last year. Um, so that's really cool that they've made a 10-year commitment to, uh, to work with us. So, uh, thanks to them. Um, anybody else? personally also excited about the project at Pleasant Valley with Ectopian Earthare because Jordan Reploal who's the leader of that organization you know had reached out to me uh at my board email address and um interested in doing a lot of work. They work with a lot of school districts just beautifying and with an educational element and all that stuff. So, um um it's cool
033to see that come from a random email to being on a on an agenda. So, things like that can happen. So, okay. All in favor of approving items A through K, please signify by saying I. I. Anyone opposed? >> Motion carries. All right, we are down to committee chair reports. Do we have any committee chair reports? Uh board president's report. All that I would like to share is that you know Justin and I went together to the game in Chambersburg last evening and you know a lot of us were there Steph most of us were there. Um I was so proud of um first of all our athletes who competed down there. um the girls basketball team, but the student support was unbelievable um and so well behaved. They represented us so well. So all
034the people who volunteered to accompany those students are to be commended. The students are to be commended. I mean was there any anything slight slightly chippy, but it was all nothing nothing to make note of. >> Yeah. I mean, so impressive. I was I just made it made me feel good and and proud. And one of the cool things for me, because you know, my son does coach at the junior high level, was to see all these junior high boys in attendance supporting the senior high girls and getting a taste of of a a playoff environment like that and hope hopefully instilling uh you know, some dreams in them for the future. So um it was pretty cool evening. So thanks to everybody who made it happen. Yeah, we were much or we were much
035further away and 50 or 55 minutes further than Dallas Town and I think we had them outnumbered six to one. That's my general >> observation. But yeah, >> one thing I want to highlight is like I mean there was I think well over probably counting the junior high kids I would say what well over 100 80 to 100 kids >> at least. We we transported I think 90. Um, so in addition to that and the kids that self transported and ones that came with their family and the junior high students, we were probably around 150 and and they all congregated together and were loud the entire game. And I would echo that that had been the case the previous trip um when we only had one bus of students and I'll tell you those 40
036kids ma made a heck of a lot of noise and and really brought it. So um couldn't be prouder. Yeah, one thing I want to commend with that is that many kids going is only possible with support from the teachers and the administration. Um, every high school administrator was there um along with a numerous amount of teachers. So, that's the kind of stuff that I think goes beyond the school day that sometimes gets overlooked, but it, you know, them being willing to do that, you know, in addition to their regular school day and then reporting back today, you know, really helps make those memories for kids. So I want to commend them for you know giving up that time in the evening um you know to to help make those memories for the kids because
037that sometimes gets overlooked. So >> you reminded me of the good old days to tell you the truth. Um I just I was overwhelmed by fact I almost went into tears at one point. The kids were phenomenal. Mr. Campbell a lot of your junior high kids like we're noted we're down there girls and boys basketball players along with the high school kids. It was intermixing is what got me. They were all in there and nobody was they were all as one was like it brought memories of the old days. You know it was I was I was proud of them >> and most importantly everybody got home safely on a treacherous trip. I mean on route 30 >> especially if you're with me. >> Okay, moving on. Sorry to steal your thunder, Camille, but the
038stage is yours for our student representatives report. >> Thank you. Good evening. The girls basketball team made it to the final four for the first time in over 20 years. They lost against Dallas Town by one point after a very successful season. Congratulations to the Altuna Lady Lions. The boys volleyball season has begun and their next game will be tomorrow against Central Dolph Dolphin in the fieldhouse at 6:30 p.m. The outdoor track team is also beginning their season and their first home meet is on March 24th at 3:45 p.m. The boys tennis team season will begin on March 20th. The AHS spring musical, The Secret Garden, will be performed April 9th to 11th at 700 p.m. with a senior citizens preview on April 8th, also at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be bought online in the student store or at the door before the show. So far, five students have moved on to the PMEA state festival competition which will be held in the
040Poconos on April 21st. After the region band festival concludes this Friday, the final students moving on to states will be selected. Mock trial competed in the regional tournament on February 21st and 11 journalism students attended the PA school press association competition on March 16th. Mattie Baker and Adrien Pacificico won the state championship in their respective categories. Mr. Neely also won the administrator of the year award for journalism. The AHS and AJHS musicians are preparing for spring concerts. The times and dates for those concerts are on the district website and there are nine concerts scheduled between April 14th to May 14th. Spring break for students will begin with a half day on Thursday, April 2nd and will run through Monday, April 6th. Thank you. >> Okay, thanks Miss Crew. >> Mr. Hatch, do we have anything
041from our superintendent? >> I'll just start by I challenge any other school district that had four school board members attend their playoff game. So, thank you to the continued support from our schoolboard members. Um, I think that goes unmatched, you know, compared to any district that I'm aware of. Uh, Camille hit a lot of the highlights that I was going to discuss. Um, winter sports are are winding up. We had a final four basketball team. We had a state champion. We had a state medalist in wrestling. We had state finalists and medalists in in winter track. Uh, we had a a silver medal winning girls gymnastics team. Um, in addition to all of the academic that were recognized and honored at our most recent pep rally sendoff at the high school level, and not to
042mention, I know this goes un undisussed a lot, but our elementary kids are involved in so many different activities at the school and club level that are competing. We had a a seventh grade middle school girls basketball team that finished at the middle school state basketball championship this past weekend in second place in the gold division. So, the future is bright the whole way through. Um, we have multiple boys teams that will be competing this weekend at State College at the state middle school tournament. Um, so at all levels and if you went to the junior high school show in the spring, phenomenal. Um, the talent level and the commitment that our kids and our staff members are giving is really second to none. So, I just want to applaud our our staff, our community,
043our students, and all the people that make that happen. Um, it really is a special place to be. Um, real quick, and in since Attorney Beard's here, his firm provided us with some information that we uh highlighted at a professional development session last week on uh the pitfalls of social media um and being careful about social media utilization when you're working in the public sector. So, we had a a 5-hour inservice on Friday regarding uh social media and responsible use of social media. We also, as Mr. Arthur and Mr. Camiti can or Dr. Ganita can allude to um the neverending and increasing dangers of cyber security and fishing and the attacks that are going on uh organizational networks. Um we trained our staff once again on recognizing and identifying fishing and other online threats that
044forever increasing are impacting our our society. And then finally, um, kind of a an offspr of some safety and security meetings, we did a a review of stop the bleed, um, which is really life-saving approaches that anyone can can implement in a situation where you come on an accident where there is bleeding involved in utilization of common everyday items to be a tourniquet to save someone's life. So, we want to thank Amy Stair and the UPMC crew that came in and did a a baseline training with our entire staff last Friday. So, lot of great things going on. Camille highlighted some stuff going on here in the spring with concerts and outside athletic events and hopefully if the weather breaks and we finally get some consistent decent weather, we can get outside and enjoy the
045school district. But uh again, thank you to the community for your ongoing continued support. All of our parents who were getting kids to and from rehearsals and practices and attending events and and it really was special during the Lady Lion run. Um to see to kind of get that feeling back. I think you know a couple of you talked about it that maybe we haven't experienced in some time but to be able to rally behind the successes of our students and our coaches and our staff is is really exciting. So thank you to everybody. Um, and thank you for having the privilege of working here. >> Thank you. Thanks, Brad. Uh, moving on to 14th for information only. Um, um, Misty Finnegan has completed three years of satisfactory service, six ratings, and is entitled to
046tenure, and that was effective January 21st, 2026. So, congratulations to her. Uh, moving on to 15. Uh, do we have an employee unions response? I don't see anybody. Middle management? No. Mr. Solicitor, anything you'd like to share? >> I thank you. That being said, I will seek a motion for adjournment. Way to go, Michael. Anybody else? Dave second. Oh.
