There will be no discussion on these items prior to the time the board votes on the motion unless members of the board, staff, or

public request specific items to be discussed and are removed from the consent calendar. And board uh board members? Uh the staff is pulling Is it 8C? 8C as well as the public. Any items, Trustee Ramirez Dominguez? Yeah. Um can I have B subsection B? Any others? Uh yes. They removed C? They're pulling C. They're pulling C. Okay. Can I pull C as well? Okay. C, D, and I. Nothing to pull [snorts] today. Trustee Tamayo? I'll pull uh 8G just for a brief comment. 8G? Mhm. And I. Since it's been pulled. Okay. And then the public has pulled 8B, 8C, and 8D. So let me read that back um for the approval of the consent. The items that have been pulled and I just I'm going to read yours, Trustee Ramirez Dominguez, so I don't get

them so I can make sure they're clear. 8B subsection B, C, D, and I. Okay. Trustee Tamayo 8G, and I. Yes. And then the public is B, C, and D. Is there a motion to approve the consent calendar? Move to approve. Second. Um moved by Trustee Castillo Tolson, second by Vice President Damiao. Recording Secretary, please call the vote. Ramirez Dominguez? Aye. Castillo Tolson? Aye. Damiao? Aye. Ugarte? Aye. Motion carries 4-1 absent. Um and we'll start with the public item 8B, Rosie Martinez. Good evening. Um I would like to speak very briefly about the two uh job descriptions that are in front of you tonight. The first one is the Senior Director of Special Education and Pupil Services, Instruction and Support. Uh CVE is very thankful that the district recognizes the importance of this position and

how critical it is to ensure that we cast a wide net to find the best candidate. The oversight of supports for our most vulnerable students is very important to us. Uh the other job description that we are excited to see here is the Inclusion Coach for Early Childhood Education. As we continue to find best practices to support our students, our preschool teachers have been co-teaching in an inclusion model allowing students of different abilities to learn together in an inclusive classroom. We need to ensure that adequate training and ongoing support is provided to the teachers so that that they have the strategies and tools to bring the best learning opportunities for our youngest learners. We fully support having this position and continuing to find ways to build capacity for our teachers. So, thank you. Thank you.

Trustee um Ramirez Dominguez? Um I have questions regarding these two positions. Uh the Senior Director of Special Education. Uh can I have more information? Dr. Race? Uh, information regarding the job description and the reason why we're supposed to >> new position. Correct. So, uh, Ms. Casey, can you share with the board uh, why we we uh, are making it direct a senior director versus director? Sure. So, currently this position is a director of special education and that director is retiring this year. So, we've we've posted that position and we're not able to get the quality candidates that that we we needed for it so because the complexity of the special education in that department is growing and changing. So, we wanted to cast a wider net. So, we wanted to make this a senior director

position as opposed to just a director. If I'm not mistaken, a senior director position gets paid more. Yes. Okay. Um, well, we are actually confirming the layoff of almost 30 classified and to almost actually 30 classified and almost 30 certif- certified, right? Teachers. And we're offering more money to a position. Um, I just the doesn't make sense to me, but um, is there absolutely no way that having this as a director position, are we not going to get anybody? So, nobody wants this job if it's not it's not a senior director? >> Correct. So, it's not a matter of having anyone for the position, it's a matter of having the most qualified candidates and to be able to offer a meet competitive with other districts and meet the needs of our students special particularly our

special education students and our our special education department. Uh, after a long discussion we found it that the increase of 12,500 is minimal compared to the ability to hire someone that has more experience and that could truly provide meet the needs of our departments. So, what I'm hearing is that if we don't offer those $12,000, we're not going to get qualified candidates. Is that what you're saying? What I'm saying is that we already tried. We already posted it as director. And we didn't the pool that we received was not the one that we were expecting. So, we're trying to uh make it so it's we get a wider pool. And have we considered instead of doing a senior position, have we considered you know, we did it for another positions where we actually went and

hired people to help us with this. Have we done that? I'm sorry. I don't understand your question. >> So, we for other positions that I've been part of this board, we've actually hired third-party people that are giving us you know, a wider pool. Have we considered other options other than making it a senior position? >> Yeah, that would cost about $35,000. So, you're saying that having a senior position it's only an increase of $12,000 and we're going to get a lot more qualified candidates? Correct. So, so the projected increase is 12 12,509 dollars. Okay. Um and what happens if it doesn't if we don't get a you know, what if it doesn't attract enough people? Are we going to pull it up to something higher? So, the what what is done is then it will

it's it will be reposted. Uh also, Mr. Brown, I know that he is currently working with other districts to recruit actively recruit for this position. And so, with his uh connections, with his uh uh the folks that he knows and his organizations that he's part of, uh having this senior director position will make it more competitive. Okay. Um okay, that's one. Um for the second one, the inclusion coach. Is this only for preschool students? Yes, uh Dr. Rosenthal? Yes, this is specifically for preschool students. This is an inclusion coach for early childhood education. Okay, and what kind of um what are we talking about? Like what what are we considering what is the inclusion coach going to do? Specifically working with our early childhood teachers um on literacy strategies in the classroom, small group instruction.

So, our preschool students are going to have um like they're going to start early literacy? Yes. Okay. And this coach is it going to be enough for all our preschools? Yes. How many preschools do we have? We have about 15. 15? Mhm. And this this is not a position we have or is anybody doing this job right now? It's not. No one's No one's doing this position right now. No one's doing this position and are we doing is there any like early childhood literacy being [clears throat] done right now at the district? Yes, there's there is the work is being done. Okay. Um but when we have if we have this coach, um this coach will be adding additional supports um working with the teachers, providing professional development for teachers so that they are um

armed with the tools um to better support their students in early literacy. Okay. And it it would only be supporting early literacy? Correct. That's correct. Yes. >> Okay. Yeah, those weren't my questions. Sorry. Thank you. Um I do have question, well, comments on the job descriptions. While I support the positions, I think uh we need to do a a little bit better on the job descriptions, making sure that the qualifications that we put there um are consistent. For example, for the senior director of special education, we list um master's of science and education uh a doctor uh doctoral degree or a PhD. What happens if uh if we find somebody that has a master's in arts and special education? We're being too narrow, I think, uh in listing. We should just either list master's degree

or higher. Um that would cover it. And the same for the inclusion uh coach. It says that an associate degree, a bachelor's of arts, a bachelor's of science, but it's desirable. So, basically, you're telling me that if I have a high school diploma, I can apply for this if I have not even 2 years experience, because that's also preferred. So, if I have a pulse, I can apply to it. Um well, the inclusion is brand new, so the senior uh director is something different. The And for the payroll manager, I do see the the the changes there, and I and I agree with them, but just as a reminder, as we [clears throat] revamp our HR, let's let's be more consistent uh on those. Trust the mayor, if if we can have a change uh

instead of saying MS, can we say master's degree in a related field? Yes, that would be more appropriate. >> to make that change? So, with that change, you're For the senior director. I'm going to make that work. And and so, can What about for the inclusion? >> the inclusion coach. So, Dr. Personnel, what is the the rationale that they may they can apply they they would be qualified without actually having bachelor's? Yes, these are teachers, our early childhood preschool teachers. They are able to work on permits. So, if they have a permit, then they would be qualified to teach early childhood preschool. So, these are teachers with permits. Can we write if they have a permit or This how does the how do they get a permit? I'm sorry. The It's It's a credentialing. >>

It's a credentialing. Okay. I'm just I just want to know like where can we write that? Because it does seem like So, it says credential. >> Under credentials, it says child development teacher permit. The permit. Okay. So, as long as they have a permit >> weird that you have a credential. For that credential, you you went got a bachelor's degree. Mhm. Or an associate's, but then you say it's desirable. >> [clears throat] >> Can they get a credential without an associate's? So, the question is for the child development teacher permits or the child's children's center instructional permits or PK-3 credential, is there a requirement to have an AA or bachelor's? Yes. So, or It's just the permit. So, the credentials that are required for the position are listed under credential. So, child development teacher permit,

children center instructional permit, or the PK3 credential, which is is new. Um so, though that is the permit or the credential that it that allows a teacher to teach a preschool class. And what's the >> And then for the education, those listed there in AA, BA, BS, those are desirable, but they're not required. Cuz you can get a permit without an AA. That's correct. Okay. I guess it it makes them more competitive if they have an AA or a BA. Which we have people who um we have actually two early childhood teachers who have are in in this internship program, and they um engaged in the PK3 credential. So, they have gotten their bachelor's, they've secured their credentials, and they can teach up to third grade now. So, the PK3 Mhm. It's a bridge. Okay.

I have Sorry, I have a question going back to the senior director. Um since we are offering more money and making it a senior um does it mean that we're adding on more job responsibilities? Like obviously this person is a senior director, so I'm assuming that or I want to know because I don't I don't want to assume um that the senior director will have more than what the person that's currently doing has? Yes. For first we'll have to make it to senior director, we need to be making more comprehensive and not just additional duties, but more uh comprehensive duties. Mhm. So, it is not just we're going to give you more money, but you're going to, you know, work and do have that comprehensive Correct. support. Okay. All right, move to approve. Second. Move

by Vice President Tamayo, second by Castillo-Tolston, recording secretary, please call the vote. >> Alameda-Dominguez. I, but we're doing changes or it was determined that we're Okay, yeah. >> I would just make sure. Okay. Yes. Castillo-Tolston. Yes. >> Tamayo. I. Ugarte. I. Motion carries, four one absent. Item 8C, Public First, Rosie Martinez. >> [clears throat] >> I want to start by thanking Dr. Rosendale and Dr. Canales for working so hard to ensure that all positions were accounted for. I know that they put in very long hours and we're very happy to say that the initial 33 gen ed teachers that received a layoff notice were all able to be placed. So, thank you for that hard work. Uh we do have two of them that are still listed on exhibit B, as well as four preschool

teachers on exhibit A. Dr. Rosendale reassured me today that they do have positions for them. I just want to make sure that I say this out loud and publicly. Um and as happy as and thankful as we are that we are able to bring all our teachers back, we're here with a very heavy heart feeling the potential loss of 19 of our counselors and social workers. We are going from 35 to 16. >> [sighs] >> You hear month after month the needs around behavior, mental health, and how our counselors and social workers at the school sites have become an essential part of our work. We recognize that this decision is made with the interest of being fiscally responsible, but we urge you to look closely at your budget and prioritize. Part of what makes community

schools such a successful model is shared decision-making and being responsive to the community's needs and wants. Last month, you heard a report on the on the successes being felt across the district as students and families access resources being provided. You have also been hearing all year about MTSS being an integral part of rigorous learning for all. Supporting social-emotional learning, behavior, and mental health is just as essential as academics. Although we are hopeful that the governor's May revise will provide one-time money to bring these counselors and social workers back to our schools, we ask that you think creatively to ensure that mental health is a strong consideration in funding this rigorous learning for all plan. Thank you. Thank you. Trustee Ramirez-Dominguez. Um that was great news that I just heard. I just want to make sure

that um I understand right. So, what you're saying is that this list of exhibit A um these teachers are not going to be laid off? No. So so He has a revision. Oh, okay. Thank you. So, the revision is uh if you look at the first page where it says uh 26 at uh the last uh paragraph Mhm. Mhm. 26 FT years, it goes down to 23. >> [clears throat] >> Okay. And uh right above that, where it says 24 it goes down to 21. And then, where it says exhibit exhibit A Mhm. we're removing three names. First name is Mabel Garay. Second name is Veronica Cortez. Third name is Erika Magana. So, three names off of exhibit A. Correct. >> Three names off of exhibit A. Okay. So, the rest are we're still pending.

Mhm. Correct. Okay. And and uh And from what I heard right now, exhibit B is gone. Is that right? No, the two The two individuals that are listed on exhibit B are still laid off. >> Okay. Um but we hope to rescind them soon. Okay. And uh Miss uh and Dr. Rosenthal, if you can share with uh with the board because I think it's important the number of uh uh gen ed teachers that we started with and how many we have left. So, the number of gen ed teachers that we started with was 41. Um but now, the teachers that are listed on exhibit B are the remaining two teachers. So, from 41, we went down to two. And uh we're we're we're waiting for for um very likely that we'll be we'll be able

to call them back. So, what what is the hold up [clears throat] to be able to remove these two from the list? Just make ensuring that we have the positions to bring them back into. I thought we have them. I was told that we have them. Correct. Uh but it's not final list. So, there there's certain things that we need to do. What what's what's that? Um people resignations or terminations, um making sure that those positions are there. And then we also have some um due to projections, we have either class closures or um opening classes. So, making sure that there's a those adjustments and confirming the classrooms are available and then we will will be able to bring those teachers resend their layoffs. Is there a timeline like when do we know these things?

I mean it's been fluid so as soon as we're able to resend we resend. For for example we may have a teacher that gives us a verbal Mhm. but we can't move on that until we have it written as an example. Correct. So today we voted to dismiss a teacher. Is that one of these positions? Yes. Okay. So basically we have we would have one left. Now the independent study program I don't see those names for those teachers here. Because they're not being laid off. So we're keeping the program? No they're they're being moved to a they have a teaching position. So they have been moved the program. So one teacher. So we have we had two we currently have two ISP teachers. Next year we're projected to have one teacher for ISP. That one

teacher who was displaced is entitled to a classroom position so they have already been um accounted for in the classroom projections next year. >> So I have a question. So if we were to keep both teachers in independent study that would open that a second position that we need to let fully eliminate 7B. It's a possibility. Okay. >> Any questions? Any other questions on item 8C? Going to make a motion to remove exhibit B. Since we will have those positions, I think that um independent study should should stay as is with the two teachers, so we can open up a position. Um so I would move to approve this item without exhibit B. And funding uh um this You can't do anything with an independent study. You can remove B, but we can't talk about

independent study cuz it's not on the agenda and it's a special meeting. You can move remove B. You can do that for sure, but we can't talk about independent study cuz it's not >> All right. I'll move B. I'll move to approve it without exhibit B. That way we we keep those two teachers. Cuz we're hoping they're going to be rescinded regardless. So I'll second that. Moved by trust trusty Tamayo, seconded by trusty Castillo Tolston. Recording secretary, please call the vote. >> Benavides Dominguez Nay. Castillo Tolston >> Aye. Tamayo Aye. >> Uwakonye Aye. Motion carries. Three um aye, one nay, one absent. Item 8D, the public. Uh Claudia Pedatella Good evening, board members and superintendent. Tonight is a sad occasion. We're letting go of classified employees who showed up every single day to do one

of the hardest jobs in the district. They worked with students in crisis, students who threw chairs, students who bit, scratched, and pulled hair. These employees held the walkie-talkies, they led the crisis teams, they supported teachers, they held up students, they were the superheroes. And it is so sad that we are saying there is no room for them anymore in this district. To those employees, thank you. Thank you for coming every day and giving everything you had. But I need the board to know this. What you are seeing tonight is only half of the story. This report does not reflect the employees whose hours were reduced. That's also a layoff. It's a partial layoff. Employees are going from 35 to 30 hours. Employees are forced into lower-paid positions. Employees are taking pay cuts. And the worst

part is that this district did not properly notify them. Under Ed Code, partial layoff notices were due by March 15th. And these employees received emails only, which violates Ed Code. That's not proper notification, and that's not legal notification. So, I'm asking this board directly, will you honor the 35 hours of employees who were never properly notified of their reduction? Will you make whole the employees who are taking the pay cuts without legal notice? Will you protect the employees who will show up next year with all the skills this district has invested in them? There's no report of the other classified employees who are having their hours reduced below 20 hours, forcing them to give up their benefits. By not reporting on my union brothers and sisters, classified employees are quietly being squeezed down with reduced

hours and lower positions. And apparently without even proper notice. And that's not a favor to us. That's not how you should be finding your savings. I'm asking this board to investigate the more than dozen employees who were not properly notified of their partial layoffs and helped to make them whole again. These employees deserve better. Thank you. Trustee Ramirez Dominguez. Yes. I am deeply saddened as I read the list. Um, I don't know if I didn't want to see it or I used to be a classified employee and it breaks my heart. It breaks my heart to see you know, these names in here, especially because I know a few. It breaks my heart to think that I know the situation of a few of these employees and how what this meant for them. And how

much of a dream it was for them to work at their child's school. And I am very upset like my heart breaks. Um Yeah. I just wanted to share that and I really wish we could have more positions. Um but yeah. That's that's it. So can't Dr. Reyes there's there's a claim that's if true is disturbing. Can you talk about that? So Dr. Rosendale, can you can you uh share what happened and how that was addressed? So there were um individuals whose whose hours were reduced um and um senior director or executive director at the time um called these individuals and and asked them and also emailed them and let them know or gave them the option of reduction and which they accepted. So, these two these um staff members um were placed into and

were told notified that they had positions, but they had a reduction in hours. Was the certified letter sent? No. That is a problem. Mhm. That's a big problem. Can there That is a huge problem. Can there be anything done about that? So, are we talking about the ones that had uh hours reduced? Yes. So, those those individuals >> um will most likely be made whole um because um they weren't properly notified. They they have to They have to. Yeah, so so so Not properly. So, if uh so the ones the ones that were not notified properly Mhm. then we need we need to make them whole. Yes. And it was said it was 12 people. Do we know if that's the right number? I can I can give you that number. It's more than 12

people. Oh my. But we're talking about reduction of hours. >> It was a reduction of hours. >> Yeah. So, the the ones that are the that were not notified were the reduction of hours, then those will make them whole. Mhm. Okay. That has to happen. So, what I'm what I'm hearing is that we're going to make uh those people whole retroactively from any loss of pay. Well, they they haven't been because this is financial. >> Well, I want to make sure that if there's any loss of pay in this they shouldn't lose any pay. It was our fault that we did not notify them properly. So, we should make them whole and restore those hours. And they get to have their benefits and everything, right? Um that's included in the making whole. Um Okay. Do

we need to do any modification additional to this uh item to make sure that we make those people whole? Uh no, just just the motion would be to approve with the the the ones that the 12 Restore hours. >> Restore the 12 the ones that >> members that were not notified correctly to restore the hours. All right, I will move to do that. I have a question about this list. Those on this list that are here um and I understand that we talked about FTEs and the fact that people were going to be laid off. Are these people actually not going to be brought back in a different classification? What what Tell me about this list. >> So, thank you for that question. So, the majority of these people, if not all, are um individuals

that hold BSA positions. Those individuals will more than likely, when we go through projections for next year and um reallocation to sites, those BSAs will um will be absorbed into student attendant or IA positions, IA sped. So, a reclassification at a different level. So, with your motion, right? >> Mhm. We're restoring the 12 people. According to the law that we should have never done. >> Yes. Yes. And then And then this. And then going with this. Okay. I will second that. And and the along with this is are we adding this in this? Yeah. Okay. Um there's a motion by Trustee Tamayo for item 8D with the caveat um To restore the hours. To restore the hours. And and make them whole. And make them whole. Seconded by Trustee Castillo-Tolston. Recording Secretary, please call the

vote. >> Amida Dominguez? Just because I it's not 100% that they're coming back. I love that we're making them whole and I'm glad that that gets to be fixed, but I'm still it's a no. Castillo-Tolston? Aye. Tamayo? Aye. Ugarte? Aye. Motion carries three aye, one nay, and one absent. Item 8G. Trustee Tamayo. 8G. Um What was it? Oh, furniture. So, this item uh is asking us to approve uh to be able to piggyback uh to buy furniture from uh this vendor. What what furniture are we buying uh that we're using a piggyback from a school district that is like 4,000 kids or students? Uh Dr. Reyes. So, Mr. Pong, do me a favor. Could you share a couple things? One is uh why the urgency of this of this piggyback and why do we choose

this one versus going with a with a consortium? So, this furniture that's being ordered, it's part of the relocation for Firebaugh-Linden to Aurora Elementary in Loma Verde. So, that's part of um the urgency of um putting through this order. Um but the reason why we're using this bid is because um we actually get a better savings than um some of the other bids that we've utilized in the past. So, whenever we do um furniture purchases, we always look for the best bid that's available. And this one, um, you know, some of the vendors give, if there's a higher quantity that's being proposed in the bid, um, they'll give a bigger discount. So, this one, um, had a larger discount than one of our others. And what how much are we looking to spend with this

company? Um, it's between Let me see. >> [clears throat] >> I don't have the full quote in front of me, but it's between 20 and 40,000. Okay. All right. Um, I'll move to approve. Second. Moved by Vice President Tamayo, seconded by Trustee Ramirez Dominguez. Recording Secretary, please call the vote. >> Ramirez Dominguez. Aye. Vasquez Tolston. Aye. Tamayo. Aye. >> Ugarte. Aye. Motion carries, four, one absent. And we have approve and/or ratify in-service travel request 8i, Trustee Ramirez Dominguez. Yes. Um can I know my more about the project zero classroom, please? Sure. Ms. Morales. Yeah, so we're excited about the opportunity to send another team of 10. Um uh it's actually a mixture of district leaders, coordinators, directors, as well as um site principals this time to the week-long training we did last summer at Harvard.

So project zero classroom is a professional learning it's it's a it's a rigorous professional learning week. It's very long. I see Ms. Casey's shaking her head because she came with me last year. Um and uh the primary researchers that work out of the project zero um department in Harvard, they provide professional learning all week. So some of the topics um that we attend for are digital thriving for youth well-being. So this is about, you know, um appropriate use of AI and digital resources with our learners. That's why we have some members of our innovation team going. We have designing learning spaces. Cultures of thinking, which is a big critical component with visible thinking and rigorous learning for all. They have uh sessions there on playful, creative, and maker-centered learning that also aligns with all of

our work around DODEA and STEAM studios. And then teach for understanding, this is about developing um curriculum units using backwards design lesson planning model model and it aligns with our literacy and language uh priority action for rigorous learning for all. Okay. And why were there only a few principals that are coming? So we have a selection of principals and coordinators and directors who are already kind of showing uh leadership in these topics. So we've offered book clubs, they've attended uh local summits here in San Diego. They are also leading initiatives at their school site as well. And so those principals are kind of what we like to call our early adopters. Um and we hope to lean on them to have this group go and receive the training and then bring their knowledge back. We

have a large district and our instructional services team is really interested in developing in-house leaders and developing capacity. And so an expectation of all of the people who are attending is that they will come back and they will run professional learning for other leaders at the district on the site level and also at the school site level. You mentioned that uh this is the second cohort of people. Uh have we had training or done any professional development with the first cohort um to the team? Yes. So they actually utilize that training all the time. We just used it yesterday. We ran a huge leadership meeting where uh they they put our principals through the visible thinking routines. All of the different activities that we learned we bring them back. We also have book clubs. We've

used it in our innovative learning committee. And it was also a core element of our ILT meetings. So I presented with Ms. Montgomery um and Ms. Carpenter at all six of those for the cohorts in our district around cultures of thinking. Yeah. Thank you for writing Massachusetts so I don't think it you're going to UK. >> [laughter] >> I remember you asking >> I was like, "That's so cool. You're going to the United Kingdom." And you're like, "What?" >> "Who's going?" >> [laughter] >> I was so excited for you. Thank you. Now I know that uh Ms. Garza as as principal would have been great here. And in her role of state and federal could still apply, but given that so little or so few principals are going this time, is there an opportunity to

change that seat for another one or is that already committed? Um cuz I know we buy these in ahead of time to save some money. We did have to apply for that and they do expect us to send kind of a diverse team. One of the critical components that Ms. Garza is responsible for with Mrs. Perez down here on the end is the LCAP. You have to have deep knowledge of our instructional program to be able to make an informed decisions about how we spend our money. It is critical in that role and so Ms. Garza will attend this professional learning and she will also attend all other professional learning we we we have just like our team does here because to lead and to advise our principals on how the best way to spend

title money, to create the LCAP, to create goals with our teams, you have to know our instructional program. Okay. Seems fair enough. Motion. >> Motion to approve. Second. Move by Trustee Ramirez seconded by Vice President Tamayo. Recording Secretary, please call the vote. >> Ramirez Dominguez. Aye. Castillo Thurston. Aye. Tamayo. Aye. Ugarte. Aye. Item 9B, adopt initial collective excuse me negotiations proposal from Chula Vista Elementary School District to the Chula Vista educators, Dr. Rosendale. Yes, the this these are the I articles that the district is proposing for sunshine. Okay, I am now opening the public hearing. There's one speaker, Rosie Martinez. Um So, CVE provided our articles for sunshine a couple months ago, and now the district has brought theirs forth. Um the problem is we're still looking at we're looking at next year's contract while still far from settling this one. Your budget shows your priorities. You have two line items in your

budget allocating $44 million for books and supplies. That is much more than was even allocated during the pandemic. We constantly hear that we have to save money for future curriculum adoptions. We ask that you stop saving these inflated funds for potential purchases of books in the future and spend that money on today's students that are sitting in our classrooms right now. You have set aside money for things that won't matter without having qualified teachers in the classrooms. You cannot attract and retain the best if you if they cannot live in the community in which they work. We had our first mediation session this week during teacher appreciation week, and honestly, we're not feeling appreciated. We don't need praise and flowers. We need to be able to afford having health coverage for our families. We are

thankful that Dr. Reyes is open to exploring different options, but we cannot stress enough the urgency that CVE members are feeling to come to an an agreement right now. Our next mediation session is May 29th. We need the district to come with a serious offer so that we can settle this contract and focus on teaching our students rather than worrying if we can afford to be sick or pay our bills. Thank you.
