You guys just heard the wonderful sounds of the East High music program of our orchestra band. and give him a round of applause. Are you guys excited to be here for the Betty Davis East High School 2026 graduation? [cheering] >> That's good. That was the loudest out of all the uh what have we done? Six of them so far. Thank you guys. My name is Corey team. I'm also a East LOM, class of 95. Is there any 95 people in here? >> Yeah, there you are. Love it. Sorry, I had to get that shout out. So, that's why I'm going full on East. Why not? I want to, this is something new we're doing this year in the district. Um, we're going to just now have some couple of live hits. And we're going to
start off with this guy. He's a two-time cross country state champ representing East. He's also the current Gatorade player of the year for cross country. Um, and I'm going to have him introduce himself and then go from there. >> Uh, hello. Thank you guys. I am Kataden Staples. As Corey so excellently said, I am a cross country runner and I've had great success this year, but I'm here for the seniors today. I am so proud of this class. And would you guys just introduce yourself real quick? >> Um, my name is Anastasia Mass. >> My name is Antonio Wette. >> And for everyone here for the seniors, would you please give a round of applause for your amazing kids? Now, I'd like to start with a question for you guys. Who do you guys have
to thank for being here today? >> Um, I would like to thank my family, my friends, and my teachers for supporting me throughout my high school journey. And before that, um, I would also like to thank myself. I guess I feel like I've worked very hard to get here. Um, but I really couldn't have done it without the people supporting me. So, thank you all. Uh me personally, I'm definitely gonna have to shout out my mom and dad that are sitting like right over thereish. Can you put your hands up, please? [cheering] I'm sorry that they only put up their hands for like five seconds. They're not as cool as me. Also, shout out to Quizlet. Um that really did help me in English class. Sorry, Mr. D'Vor. I know he wasn't really supposed to
use that. >> And what's your guys's favorite memory from your high school experience? My favorite memory from high school is getting involved in sports. It allowed me to create new bonds with people and really uh allow myself to be a leader as well as a teammate to others. Um and the sport itself um the competition and the passion that I see within every sport is just unmatched. So I really do recommend anybody to participate within these sports communities. Um a lot of them are losing funding. Um, so it is important to advocate and show your support to sports. >> Yes. I'd have to say my favorite memories are in sports as well. I actually was Katan's teammates um for the last two seasons. So running with them has been awesome. But it's also just been
awesome in general, just having fun, you know, being just being out there and being involved and just taking horrible photos of my teammates as they run up hills. I still have horrible photos of that guy right there. Okay. And I got another question for you guys. What's some words of wisdom for anyone coming into high school or experiencing high school right now just from your experience? >> Um, one piece of advice that I have is to get involved. My freshman year, I was really timid and I was really reluctant to get involved with uh clubs and sports and other uh in school extracurriculars. Um, and I was very closed off, but my sophomore year I started to branch out a little bit more and it really opened my doors and it gave me a lot
of opportunities and friendships that I wouldn't have had otherwise. >> Uh, my piece of advice would be don't procrastinate. I waited until yesterday to actually make this outfit. So, don't yo don't be like me. All right. I was a procrastinator up until when did we when was the last day of school? the seventh. Okay. So, I was a procrastinator up until around like May 6th and ever since my journey of stopping that been a lot better. Also, another word of advice, um, join that join the sport that you're nervous about joining. Like really, again, I can't stress enough how beneficial it is to be in a sport, having uh the discipline that comes with it and not waiting until later down the line when when it feels like you're already too late. Even even if
you're like a junior and you still want to join like a random sport, just do it because you don't want to regret not doing it. Thank you guys so much. Thank Can we give a a huge round of applause to Antonio and Anastasia? We'll be back with more. Hey, Heat. Heat. Wow. Thank you so much, East Time Music. Can we get another round of applause for our amazing music program? Now, I'm Katan Staples again. I'm a junior this year and I'm here with three more amazing seniors. Would you guys just introduce yourselves and say how excited you are to be here today? >> My name is Arya Gregorio and I'm super excited to be here. >> My name is Maximus Senua and I'm actually tired to be here. >> My name is Omni Copaz and
about like nine out of 10. Now, making it here was not a journey alone. Who do you guys have to thank to be here today? >> I got to thank all my family and friends who are in that box up there waving. >> Um, I have to thank my friends right here. Um, Nate, that's down all the way over there. I see you. And of course, my mom and dad somewhere over there also. Thank you very much. >> Uh, definitely my parents and my parents and uh all my other friends. Very grateful for you guys. >> Now, when you guys were in kindergarten, what did you want to be when you grew up? >> I have always wanted to be either an actress or a celebrity or singer. >> Um I just wanted to be
famous. That was it. [laughter] That was it. Um I don't know, like a content creator. That maybe >> Yeah, definitely. Uh went from firefighter to being a content creator. So, >> and what do you guys have planned now after now that high school is done for you guys? >> I'd like to pursue dentistry now. Big big difference. >> Um, most likely pursuing videography or photography. >> I want to do something more in the education field. >> Now, what is your guys's favorite memory from high school? I think just you know finding my way through high school with my friends and you know joining all the things that I wanted to join. >> Um my whole journey with the whole band over there. Uh we should give him a round of applause. You also should share
for yourself [cheering] >> and um yeah just my whole journey with Ben. It's definitely got to be my first ever play, Romeo and Juliet, the book report that I did last year. And I heard that you helped kind of come up with the idea. Now, I've got one last question for you guys. If you had any words of wisdom for people entering high school, people in high school, or anyone else, what would they be? >> Just stay optimistic and try literally everything. Try it. If you don't want to try it, just just do it. >> Um the is always changing, but stay on your feet. >> Similar to Arya's, um, make sure you try new things and you only live once, so there's no hurt in it. >> Can we get a huge round of
applause for these amazing seniors? [cheering] Thank you so much, guys. Heat. Heat. >> [cheering] >> Hello everyone. I have one more interview for you guys today. That is our amazing principal, Mr. Brown. Can we all have a huge round of applause for Mr. Brown. >> So, Mr. Brown, what does it mean to be a Thunderbird? >> Thank you. So, I think it means to be a Thunderbird is being able to uh to take the challenge, not being afraid to try new things, always remembering where you came from, and giving 100%. >> Thank you, Mr. Brown. And what's some words of wisdom you have for this future coming class? >> Well, don't be afraid to try new things. Get out your comfort zone. Try something new. Take a different path. Life is waiting for you. >>
And is there any farewell remarks you want to say to this class? >> I am so happy and so proud to see this class go. This has been a great great year. >> Thank you so much, Mr. Brown. Can we get a huge round of applause one more time for Mr. Brown? I've got heat. Heat. Heat. >> [screaming] >> Come on. Heat. Hey. Hey. Heat. [cheering] Heat. >> [screaming] >> Come on. Heat. I don't know. Hey, let's It's me. >> [cheering] >> Please be seated. Good evening, parents, family, faculty, distinguished guests, and friends, members of the class of 2026. As you may or may not know, I am speaking to you today as a senior class president and I'm going to try and fail toward probably as we all sit here waiting to patiently walk up to receive our diplomas and finally complete this lengthy but shorty chapter of our lives. As many have said, I stand here currently to offer some advice. Advice that I honestly don't really expect much of you to follow or even remember for that matter, but advice nonetheless based on what I've experienced from high school. Being in high school has taught me a lot of valuable life lessons. High school taught me to slow down. take breaks and
enjoy the little moments with the people I love. It taught me the dangers of burnout and why I should make sure I take proper care of myself. But most importantly, it taught me what I'm about to say to you all. To slightly modify a quote from my chemistry teacher and robotics coach, Mrs. Roach, there are no breaks on the struggle bus that we call time. No matter what happens, the day and by extension, our lives will always be moving forward at the same rate, even if it really doesn't feel like it for some days. I'm sure that by now we've all gone through some incredibly stressful times in our lives. Times where we wish the world could simply stop turning and give us a break until we were eventually ready to continue. But the world
kept turning. The world didn't stop when you failed a test you studied all the night before on. The world didn't stop when your favorite senior graduated in the years before. And most importantly, the world isn't going to stop when we all get our diplomas and go home to the people that helped us get to this point. To put it bluntly, time doesn't care. it only much is ever onward. Though with that being said, my final advice to you all is this. If you see something that you have even the slightest bit of interest in, chase it. Don't let it get away. Even if you don't end up catching what you're chasing or if you lose that passion that sparked the chase along the way, what matters is that the effort was put in by you
to achieve what you wish to set out yourself to do. It was Alfred Lord Tennyson who said, "It's better to have tried and failed than to live life wondering what would have happened if I had tried." And keeping this ideal close to one's mind is one of the many ways to truly live without regrets. At least that's what I figure. Again, I don't really expect all of you to follow or agree with what I have said. And that's perfectly fine. Regardless of what you will all do with what I have said, I know that all of you have the ability to do incredible amazing things so long as you set your mind to it. All of you sitting here in this very room are evidence of that. I trust that after the ceremony and after
we say our farewells and see you lers to one another that you'll make the right choices in life. And above all else, I hope that in the distant future, none of you look back at high school as the happiest memories of your lives. Because I hope that by then you've all made memories that are even better than the ones that made we made over the course of these four years. We've all gotten this far. Let's all live to achieve even greater heights than now. Thank you. [applause] [cheering] [applause] >> Thank you, Udith. Now we will hear from Anastasia Mass, Betty Davis, East Anchorage Student Body President. [cheering] [applause] [cheering] >> Good morning everyone. family, friends, teachers, and my fellow graduates. My name is Anastasia Mast, and I am honored to speak in front of all
of you today as your student body president. Today is a moment we've been waiting for and working for for years. It marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. And while that can feel exciting, it is also a little uncertain. East has always been more than just classes and assignments. It's been a time of growth, of learning, not only academically, but personally. We faced challenges, celebrated achievements, and created memories that will stay with us long after today. Along the way, we've learned important lessons. How to persevere when things are difficult, how to support one another, and how to keep moving forward when we're unsure of what's next. I would like to take a moment to thank people who have helped us reach this milestone. To our teachers, thank you for your guidance,
patience, and dedication. You've encouraged us to think critically, work hard, and believe in our potential. To our families and friends, and a big thanks to mine. Thank you for your constant support and encouragement. You've always been there through every step of this journey and this achievement would not be possible without you all. And to my fellow graduates, congratulations. Each of us has taken a unique path to get here, but today we share this accompl accomplishment together. As we move forward, we will not have all the answers. And that's okay. What matters is that we continue to learn, grow, and pursue our goals with determination and confidence. Before I close, I want to share a quote from Winnie the Pooh. How lucky am I or how lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye
so hard. These words capture perfectly what today feels like. As much as we may be ready to move forward, there's something difficult about leaving this behind. The people, the routines, the small everyday moments that quietly became so meaningful. But that feeling isn't something to avoid. It's something to appreciate. It means what that what we experienced here mattered and that we built something real. So instead of focusing on the chapter ending, we can be grateful that it happened and carry those moments with us onto the next page. Congratulations, class of 2026. I wish you all success and happiness in the next chapter of our lives. Thank you. [applause] Thank you, Anastasia. And now, under the direction of Miss Robin Lanier, East High's Concert Choir will sing And Wherever You Go, A Coral Blessing by Douglas Wagner

[music] >> [applause] >> Thank you, Miss Lier, and members of the East High Choir. Let's give him another round of applause, everyone. [applause] Thanks again. And now we will hear from Rosie Conway, our Betty Davis East Anchorage validictorian. [applause] >> Hello everyone. It is such an honor to speak here today. First, I would like to acknowledge the graduating class of 2026. Congratulations. This moment has not come easily.
Over the past four years, our time has been balanced between family, jobs, academics, athletics, and numerous other responsibilities. Through this, every one of us has persevered and found a way to keep moving forward, allowing us to achieve this high level of success today. For this, we should be incredibly proud. As we go on to this next chapter of our lives, I want to leave you with one central idea. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. The challenges we have faced in the last four years, no matter how difficult, did not stop us. As we look ahead, wondering what the next few years might hold, only one thing is guaranteed. Our paths will not be perfectly smooth. But this is not something to fear. We will make mistakes and life will not go as planned. But this
is not something to fear. It is something to embrace. Because within these challenges lie opportunities to grow, adapt, and discover who we truly are and what we are capable of. Mistakes are not signs of failure. They are not a flaw in the system, but rather how the system is supposed to work. They are proof that we are trying, growing, and pushing out of our comfort zones. With each misstep, we have an opportunity to learn more about our strengths, limits, and values. The emphasis will not be on our mistakes, but rather how we respond. This past year, I thought I had everything put together. I had formed a solid, almost foolproof plan. But when it was eventually put into action, it went nowhere near how I'd expected. I made mistakes, had to own up to them,
and live with the consequences. At first, all I could think about were the setbacks I was facing, all self-inflicted. But after a while, I changed my perspective and got past thinking about myself and started paying attention to what I could take away from this experience. Looking back now, I am grateful for the lessons, the growth, and the connections that came from being honest and admitting that life is not perfect, no matter how it appears on the outside. In that sense, uncertainty becomes a gift. Not having a definite path forces you to explore, take risks, and discover opportunities that would have gone untouched otherwise. It is often these detours that end up shaping you the most. As you navigate this new stage of life full of questions, remember, everyone around you is in the same boat.
Everyone is trying to figure things out. So, lead with kindness and don't be too quick to judge. Hold your loved ones close and speak with honesty because your voice is the most powerful tool you will ever own. Lastly, remember to be grateful for your teachers, your family, your friends, and everyone who has helped you along the way, whether knowingly or not. No one gets here alone. And that support system will continue to be essential wherever life takes you. No matter what your next step is, whether it's college, trade school, the workforce, or a path that is entirely your own, embrace the setbacks, remember the golden rule, and put your best foot forward wherever life takes you. Don't aim for perfection, aim for growth. Thank you and congratulations. [applause] Thank you, Rosie. Thank you to all
our speakers for your dedication to excellence during your time here at Betty Davis East Anchorage High School. Great job. Now, at this time, we would like to have Mr. Ron Brown, principal of Betty Davis East Anchorage High School, give his remarks to the class of 2026. >> Thank you very much. How about another big round of applause for the speakers, the student speakers. It's not easy getting up here presenting in front of your peers. You guys did a great job. Thank you. Good afternoon graduates, families, staff, and honored guests. Class of 2026, today is a day of celebrations. It is a moment you have earned not by completing any assignments or passing any tests or showing up on time, but by proving who you are when things were difficult, when they were uncertain and at
times overwhelming. Today is about more than just receiving a diploma. It is about the demonstration of the development of your thoughts, your feelings, and your behaviors. Those are the things that will define how you interact with the world. Because let's be honest, you didn't just get here on those easy days. You got here on those hard days. Let's take a look at some of the values that you will walk away with. from East High School. First is resiliency. Those days when you retired, those days when things didn't go your way. Those days when you had every reason to quit, yet you didn't. You showed up. That is resiliency. And that will carry you further in life than any grade or any title will. As many of our great leaders remind us, resiliency is not about
avoiding challenges, but about how you respond, recover, and continue to move forward. But know that resiliency is not enough. You must also carry with you integrity. That is doing what is right even when no one is watching. Integrity is the foundation of trust. It is who you are when the spotlight fades. It is when your character gets tested. Alongside integrity comes Accountability is the willingness to own your own choices, your actions, your mistakes, and your successes. Accountability is not about perfection. It is always about your ownership. Because at the end of the day, it is always about saying my life is a reflection of the choices that I've made. Not where I grew up, not because of my age or because of my gender. No excuses. Graduates, seniors, the world that you are stepping into
will not ask you to be perfect, but it will require you to be accountable. It will also demand toughness. Not the kind of toughness that shuts people out, but the kind that keeps you going when the path is unclear. The kind that stands back up after failure. The kind that says, "I still believe in myself even when others may doubt you." Because the truth is success will always test you. Life will challenge you. And when it does, it will not ask how talented you are. It will always ask how tough you are. to continue on with the values that you've improved upon since walking through the doors of our fine institution. Never lose your sense of appreciation. Appreciate those people who stood beside you. Your families, they supported you. The teachers who push you. Your
friends who walked that journey with you. Remember, no one gets here alone. So, let's take a minute, seniors. Let's look around and let's all say thank you really loud. [cheering] always help keep you grounded. My last piece of advice I want you to think about and remember always never forget where you came from. Remember the classrooms, remember the hallways, the bus rides for those of you that took the yellow bus, the lunchroom, the real conversations that happened before, during, and after school. Remember all the lessons that you learned at East High School. Not the ones just from the books, but from your experiences, both good and bad. Because where you come from is not something that you can ever, ever outgrow. It is something for you to build upon. your foundation, your family, your values,
your community that will guide everything that you do from this from this day moving forward. Class of 2026, today you leave me you leave Betty Davis East Anchorage High School with more than knowledge. You leave with values. To sum up, resiliency to keep going, integrity to do what is right, accountability to own your own path, toughness to face the unknown, appreciation for those who supported you, and the honor and prestige of this moment earned, not given. So, as you step forward in the future, I challenge you to be leaders of character, be people that others can trust. Be individuals who show up even when it's hard. Most importantly, be proud of you of who you are and what you are becoming. Class of 2026, this moment belongs to you. Carry it with pride. Carry it
with humility and carry it forward with purpose. Congratulations. We believe in you and we cannot wait to see what you will do next. For the last time, remember students, make good choices. Hold yourself accountable and focus on progress and not perfection. On behalf of the staff and faculty of the Betty Davis East Anchorage High School, I salute you, your achievements, and I welcome you as an alumni of East High School now and forever. Thank you. Let's on to the celebrations. [cheering and applause] [cheering] At this time, I would like to bring up our curriculum assistant principal, Mr. Russell Sherliff.
