All right, Marcel. >> Got to make sure my hair is straight. Okay. Uh, all right. Good evening, Darty community. Thank you very much for coming. Um, the board just returned from close session. And in closed session, the board took action to approve and ratify the final settlement agreement and general release dated October 20th, 2025 between the parents and district in student uh v. Dart Unified School District Special Education due process case OAH case number 2025 pursuant to which the district has agreed to fund and provide educational services to the student and the students parents have agreed to release claims against the district in exchange for educational services as specified in the agreement. It was moved by board member Reyes and seconded by board member Diaz and was voted unanimously uh for approval. So, we'll go
ahead and um uh call to order the regular board meeting of November 13th at 7:08 p.m. Um so our first I guess item here um I do this now correct. Okay. So on May 9th, 2024, the governing board of the Dart Unified School District uh rendered a decision to expel case number 0323-24 um and set November 2025 is when the student would be eligible for readmission in determining whether the student may be readmitted into the Dart Unified School District pursuant to education code section 48916. Members of the board have reviewed the documents related to the expulsion and readmission of case number 03-23-24 and shall vote on the matter of readmission. So board, just as a reminder, a yes vote will end the period of expulsion. A no vote will delay the readmission of the student
which will result in the extension of the expulsion period. Um, so do I have a motion for either a yes or a no vote? >> Motion to sorry motion to >> for for a >> for no. >> Okay. For a no vote. Do I have a second for the no vote? >> Second. >> So we have a motion by board member Diaz, second by board member Reyes for the no vote, which will extend the expulsion. Uh, any discussion? I guess we don't do discussion here, right? Okay. Uh so um we'll go ahead and do a roll call vote for this. Uh so board member Reyes. >> Yes. >> Uh so uh is that a yes to the no? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. Just just want to confirm. Just want to confirm. Okay. >>
Okay. Um >> yes. >> Okay. Sorry. Board member Hasso. Board member uh Hogin. >> A yes to the no. >> Okay. Board member Diaz. Yes to the no. >> Okay. And board member Finley, a yes to the no. So that's a 50. Uh yes to the no. Just wanted to make sure that was very clear. Um also um board member Diaz, would you mind making an announcement about translation? See um I would I'd like to tell uh the parents tonight and uh all of you that we will have some presentations that will be fully in Spanish. Uh and it's going to be amazing because it's by our students. Um thank you very much, Barbados. And just as a a note, uh the item that we just voted on uh to extend the expulsion, um that
vote will include um having the student remain at opportunities for learning. Just so that's on the record. All right. Uh thank you very much board. So we can go ahead now and move on to our roll call. Uh, so board member Diaz >> here, >> board member Finlay here, board member Holgin >> here, >> board member Hasso >> here, >> board member Reyes >> here, >> and we have our student board member here as well. Thank you very much. Uh, okay. And, um, Mr. Crosby, is all of your team here? >> They are all present. Thank you, sir. >> Excellent. All right. Uh, we'll move on now to our flag salute, and I will go ahead and do that. So everyone please rise and face the American flag. Place your right hand over your heart.
Ready, begin. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. All right. Thank you very much. Uh we'll now move on to our beliefs, vision, and mission. And I have asked uh Dr. Hasso to go ahead and do those. Dr. Hasso, >> thank you. Our beliefs. We believe we are a community of learners. We believe learning occurs in a culture of caring and respect. We believe all students are motivated to learn when they are engaged in meaningful work that connects to their lives. We believe expectations do influence performances and outcomes. We believe learning increases when there are high expectations for performance and conduct. We believe we have the responsibility to find solutions that
enable all students to learn. Our vision 21st century schools producing 21st century students. Our mission provide the knowledge, skills and inspiration for each student for success in college, career and life. >> Thank you very much Dr. Hasso. All right, we can now move on to the adoption of the agenda. Uh so we do have one correction in the adoption of the agenda. Uh sorry, two make that two. So we're amending my amendment. Uh so we have two corrections. So the first was there was a uh misspelling of board member Reyes's name on the signature line for the super uh the new superintendent's contract. Um also um in the certificated report um there was a uh to reflect that Leona Sai should be changed to child development quality star lo or Los Angeles. Uh so uh
is there a motion to approve the agenda with those amendments? >> So moved. Second >> motion by board member Reyes, second by board member Holine. Is there any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor say I. >> I. >> All right, that passes. Uh 5. So next, um Mr. Crosby, would you like to introduce our spotlight for this evening? >> So excited. We're gonna have a spotlight on Beersley Dual Language Academy, and we'll have principal Miss Jenny Romero to come up and present. Good evening. If I could ask or call up all of our gate students to the front. And what a great turnout. Look at that support from all the parents and families >> and students. [applause] We know it's a school night, so that's pretty impressive. Don't count my time yet. I'm good.
[laughter] Just kidding. Good evening, board members, interimm superintendent, and cabinet members, families, staff, and of course, our amazing students. Thank you for the opportunity to share an update on behalf of Beardsley Dual Language Academy. It's a pleasure to be here this evening to highlight the incredible work happening on our campus and to showcase the dedication of our students, our staff, our families, and our and our students. Again, at Beardsley Dual Language Academy, um, gifted and talented education, Gate enrichment program is all about empowering gifted learners. While Gate students receive support in the regular classroom, the program offers additional opportunities for third to eighth graders to explore, create, and challenge themselves beyond the standard curriculum. And I forgot one very important person. Is she here? Miss Lucetto, did you come up here? Are you hiding? Come
on up here. Very important person. Since 2023, Miss Lucetle, one of our amazing middle school teachers, has led the enrichment program with a clear vision, helping students grow intellectually and creatively through hands-on learning in and inquiry. Every grade builds upon the last, so students are constantly developing more advanced skills. We focus on giving students meaningful challenges that stretch their thinking. They don't just memorize facts. They explore ideas, ask questions, and make discoveries. Whether it's through science experiments, art projects, or engineering, students are learning by doing. We also encourage creativity and self-expression. Students have the freedom to share their original ideas and see how their curiosity can lead to realworld understanding. A big part of our pro our enrichment program is collaboration. Students work together on complex projects that combine STEM, the humanities, and the arts.
They also present their work to other students, sometimes younger students, sometimes older students, helping them build confidence and leadership skills. Our interdisciplinary project successes are as diverse as our students interests. Butterfly pinning to study biology and classification. City model building to understand urban planning. Robotics projects focused on design and programming. Theatrical productions that combine writing and performance. bridge building projects that apply engineering principles and Freda Kala inspired art exhibits exploring creativity and history. Here's some pictures of our students actually sharing with in this case younger students presenting their projects. Right now our students are working on some exciting things. Third and fourth graders are writing and illustrating children's story books. Fifth graders are st are studying entomology through butterfly pinning. Sixth graders are preserving local heritage by writing Dewardi history books. And our seventh and
eighth grade students are exploring mam mamealian eye autonomy through dissection. And here's some of our older students after they just collaborated, many of whom are here. And here's some of our other students with their projects and collaborating. [laughter] The GATE program helps students build confidence, think critically, and collaborate effectively. It prepares them not just for academic success, but for lifelong learning. We're proud to see our students grow into curious, capable, and creative thinkers ready to take on any challenge. That is the background, but I think it's most important that you hear from the students themselves because they're the ones that matter. So, I'm going to start with our fourth grade representatives. We have Amara Sedano here. You can come. Oh, you don't want to go up on the stage. I'm just kidding. Have to speak.
This is Amoris. >> Hi, my name is Amoris Sadano and I'm in fourth grade. I'm a student at Beardsley dual immersion in Deward. I am in the GATE program. Gate stands for gifted and talented education. What we've been doing in gate is making a fiction book to read to our younger students. What I like about Gate and what makes us special is that it's really fun. I like to do the activities there. What gate gate make what's make gate special to me is that it makes me feel special and very gifted and talented. Thank you for listening to my speech about this amazing program. [applause] >> Next we have Diego Diaz. Hi, my name is Diego Diaz. I am a gay student from fifth grade and I'm here to tell you my experiences with Gay
and what it is about. Gay is a program for students in third through 8th grade who are considered gifted and talented. Gate benefits students by learning and learn more things outside of a classroom with friends. My experiencees with Gate have been great over the past three school years. I got to study with my friends. I got to research about presidents. I drew things similar to Freda color's artworks. I made a self-portrait and learned about butterflies. I want to thank you all for letting me speak about gay, its benefits, and my experience with the program. [applause] >> Next, we have Valentina >> [applause] >> Bu is Valentina Leort. Um, home Roman classes. Gracias. [applause] >> Next we have Logan Serrano. [applause] >> Hello, my name is Logan Serrano and I'm here to tell you a little
bit about my experience in gate as a sixth grader in the dual immersion program at Beersley Academy. Fore the former. I'm proud to be a part of a program that encourages curiosity, teamwork, and overall that has been an enriching experience. Thank you for your time. [applause] Next, I would like to call up Ees. seventh through 8th grade have been working on a new dissection pro on a new dissection project about a sheep's eyeball. It's exciting to see what what new ideas they come up with to help us with our future. Thank you for your time. >> [applause] >> I'd like to invite up Francisco Lopez. [applause] My number is Francisco. Hola is Francisco Lopez language gate program. In gate we do a lot of projects throughout the year which is very interesting. A lot of
the projects that we do are like last year we built a town and then this year we started on the eye dissection which has been very fun to do because we learning about the anatomy of a sheibai. Thank you for your time. [applause] >> And last I would like to call up Cameron Monise. This year in in the grades of seventh and eighth grade, we are dissecting a sheep. It has been very interesting and currently we are still in the part of planning the dissection and learning the parts. >> [applause] >> In short, empowering students through GATE isn't just a slogan. It's what we do every day. We nurture curiosity, celebrate creativity, and help all of our students reach their full potential. Thank you. And I would love to give a big round of applause
first to Miss Usettto for her vision for our gate and to all of our gate students who are here this evening. And to all our families once again, thank you for your support. Wow, that that was really amazing. um you know um Miss Romero, one one of the things that you said that really um struck a chord with me is that um you said that curiosity leads to understanding and I I think that is a really profound statement. Um that obviously you know all the speakers that we heard today um have internalized that which I think is really important. Um, I I personally never did get to dissect a sheep eyeball um when I was when I was uh in elementary school. And I I've done lots of eyeballs since then because I'm I'm a
veterinarian. Um, but uh I think you guys are way way ahead of the curve um in in what you're learning. And I I I know it's it's difficult to think because this is your normal, but I just want to let you know that what you're getting to learn in gate is way above normal for what most of the country gets to experience for education. So you you are all extremely lucky and I I can tell that you take this very seriously. Um, I I leaned over to to uh board member Diaz here and I said, "I think I understood a lot of that Spanish because I I know a little bit of Spanish." And so, um, I was really impressed um, with all of you. And and it was it was very interesting that that
for some of you um, you kind of like just switch between English and Spanish without even thinking about it. And that is that's really amazing. Um, that's something to be to be very proud of. >> So, which they were able to choose. They volunteered and they were able to choose how they presented. So >> that is amazing. Just amazing. So thank you so much for coming here to to share about what you're learning. Um it's truly inspiring to hear. So um I will I will close my mouth now and and see if other board members want to to share any thoughts. >> Oh my goodness, I am just so impressed. I mean, I'm kind of embarrassed because I was listening to them and they just I mean, I speak Spanglish and I think it's good.
I think everybody understands me, but I'm listening to them and I'm thinking, my goodness, they're amazing. I mean, it was so proper. They were well spoken. Very impressive. I'm so proud of you guys. Thank you so much, um, Miss Lucero and Miss Romero for everything you guys do. Thank you um Miss Romero for your presentation, Miss Lucero for your support of these incredible students um and the incredible program that you are supporting them with. Um and I'm just so thrilled with um the element of bilingualism that you um all brought to the table too. And you know, every additional language you know kind of doubles your world. the amount of people you can engage with, the amount of books that you can read, and just um you guys are super fortunate to have these wonderful
opportunities at Beardsley, and you're doing an incredible job. So, thank you so much. >> Great presentation. You guys should be proud of yourselves. It's not It's not easy to get up and speak in a mic in front of a lot of people. and parents of our children here can thank you too because without you they wouldn't be here. So keep up the good work. Thank you. It's unbelievable. I I am so proud of the program at every school. But tonight we have seen what we are educa how we are educating our kids to be able to speak in public and to make sure that they are saying what they feel what they do and what is right to do. I got some tears. I like all this. It was amazing everyone. But one of them
did a speech. They can do it professionally at any level. And I think it was Diego or what is his name? The one that is standing at the right there. >> Logan. I'm sorry. Logan, will you come over here to the microphone again, please? >> He'll continue. He's [laughter] >> say whatever you want to say about your parents or anyone in Wow. Wow. I told you. Thank you. >> You gonna take a picture with them? >> Yes. Yes. >> I think I think we would like to come down and take a picture with them. >> That would be awesome. with the stars with all of our amazing students. [applause] >> They're going to come down >> [laughter] [applause] >> Thank you very much. I'm gonna wait for >> All right, we started out with a
a bang there for sure. Uh thank you again to uh Miss Romero and uh the team that came here to present tonight. Thank you so much. It was an honor to have you here. Um, and I do want to just recognize um, we have two CSRs board members here with us. Uh, Miss Genevie Spanella and Miss Marcy Olrich. So, thank you very much for being here and joining us. >> Um, >> oh, oh, and oh, thank you very much. Um, we also have Mr. Richard Mareno here from OL. Thank you very much for joining us as well. >> Oh, and we have Leon. Wow, we have Leon here from CS Arts as well. Wow. Okay, I should I should collect these. I think everyone else I'm I'm staring at the agenda and so I think
I have a little bit of tunnel vision here. So, uh, thank you very much everyone for for pointing those out. Okay, so I think we can now move on to our a report from our DHS student board member. So, please Alexis, take it away. >> Good evening everyone. and I hope you are all having a great night. Um, this month has been exciting for Darty High School and I'm so proud to share it all with you. Um, these last few weeks we've had many events on campus. Um, we've had our Red Ribbon Week, um, Unity Day, our our annual food booth, and we also had a Filipino um appreciation day where we had um authentic foods and we had karaoke and we had like games. It was very fun. Um recently our Lady Falcon tennis
team um has made it to CIF and they won the first round. Um our band program has begun their competition season and they won their competition over the weekend and they got third place. Um last week our winter sports season um started their tryyous. Um and our drama class had a play called Snow Angel with an outstanding performance and it was really good. This month, DHY High School is hosting a holiday food drive with hopes of giving back to our community. In our main office, we have a giving tree where you could pick a tag. Um, write your information down, then shop for the items, and then bring it back and drop it off in the office. Um, it is a great chance for students and families to give back to our community and spread
kindness and holiday cheer. Next week we have our fall rally and the theme is based off the movie Monsters Inc. We will be having a spirit week um filled with many games and activities to do on our campus. At the rally we will be recognizing AP scholars um honoral students and our fall sports teams. And lastly, in our culinary arts program, there has been an issue across all three levels of classes. Chef Prince has not been able to purchase food for our class during specific times of the month due to issues with Smart and Final or how the invoices are getting paid. Um, we haven't been getting to cook. Nonetheless, it has been very frustrating and affecting many including myself who is also in the class. Um, because we have nothing to cook or bake.
All of our plans have changed. um with many future activities and events planned on campus, we are excited to see what the rest of this month holds um here at Darty High School. Thank you. Thank you very much. Appreciate that report. Uh all right, so we'll now move on to item number 11, request to address the board. Do we have Oh, I'm sorry. I'm jumping right over Mr. Crosby here. Mr. Crosby, do you have a report to give us? >> I do. I do a brief report. Thank you. Uh Mr. President, um first I want to welcome our administrative team that is here tonight as well. We have uh Mr. Morris, director of college and career and the principal of MIT. Thank you for coming. Our uh director of student services, NAM is here tonight.
We also have uh some of our principles. Uh Julia Castillo, principal of Royal Oaks Academy. John Stinger, principal of Maxwell IB Academy. Uh Luis Haro from Darty High School. and of course Miss Romero that presented earlier from Beardsley Dual uh Language Academy. I just want to thank uh the board uh for giving me your trust in being the interim superintendent this past month and a half. I've really uh appreciated that uh uh working alongside of you and being and going to seeing the wonderful things that are happening in our schools. Uh for example, today's uh prayer mayor's prayer breakfast and the great things that are happening toward last Saturday's uh band field event. Um there's a lot of great things happening here at all of our schools and appreciate what your guidance uh that gives
all of us for for our sites to be able to do. So thank you so much. >> Thank you very much Mr. Crosby. We appreciate your service. It's been wonderful working with you in this capacity. Uh, all right. Now, we can move on to requests to address the board. And do we have any this evening? All right. We can go ahead and then move on to the general functions. Uh, so first and foremost, we will uh vote on approving the minutes of the regular board meeting from October 16th. Do I have a motion to approve? >> Move to approve. Second. >> Motion by board member Hasso. Second by board member Diaz. Any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor say I. >> I. >> All right. Passes 5. Next, we have the approval of the

Sorry. All right. We'll now move on. Uh the next item up for business is the adoption of the consent calendar. Does anyone want to remove any item from the consent calendar for separate discussion? All right. Since there's no uh objection, may I have a motion to approve the consent calendar as written? >> So move. >> Second. >> Motion by board member Holgine, second by board member Hasso. Uh any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor say I. I. >> I. Passes 50. Uh
next we have 12.4, which is the second reading and approval of board policies. Do I have a motion? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Motion by board member Reyes, second by board member Diaz. Any discussion? >> Seeing none, all those in favor say I. >> I. I that passes 50. Next is uh to receive for information the construction and modernization project update. Next we'll move on to personnel and student services. Um I do want to go ahead uh this item has a long oral report that I uh would like to go ahead and read. So if you'll bear with me, I will go ahead and read this uh and then we'll go ahead and take action on it. Uh, the Brown Act requires that this board make an oral report in open session before taking
final action on an employment agreement for a local agency executive summarizing any recommendations regarding compensation, including salary and/or fringe benefits. Consistent with this requirement, the board provides this oral summary of the salary and fringe benefits set forth in the proposed employment agreement for the superintendent between the Dart Unified School District and Dr. Jessica Madano. [clears throat] The contract term effective November 17, 2025 through June 30th, 2029. the annual base salary of $263,000. Uh so this concludes the board's report pursuant to government code section 54 953 C3. I will now open this item for discussion and action board. So uh I guess we do we have a motion to approve the contract as written and as discussed. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Oh, sorry.
And as amended. That's true. As amended. >> As amended. >> Uh yes. All right. So I believe that was a motion by board member Reyes and a second by board member Diaz. Is there any discussion board? I guess the the only discussion I will have is we are very much looking forward to working with you Mad Dr. Madrono. Uh all right, seeing as there's no other discussion for this item, uh all those in favor say I. Oh, actually we're going to do a roll call on this one. So, board member Reyes, >> yes. >> Board member Hasso, >> yes. >> Board member Hin, >> yes. >> Board member Diaz, >> yes. >> And board member Finley, yes. All right, this passes 5. Uh oh. Uh, Alexis, I forgot to ask you. >> Yes. >> Okay.
Thank you. Thank you very much. My apologies. All right, we're going to go ahead and take a pause then really quick and I believe we're gonna take a picture. Is that right down in front? Okay, Dr. Madrono. Yes, it is that time. [applause] >> [applause] >> from here. >> No, I think there >> check. [laughter] All right, we now uh get to hear from Dr. Madrono. Uh so please well we'll limit you to 30 minutes. How about that? >> Okay. [laughter] >> I was laughing. I'm like, "Oh, I didn't have my 30 minute speech prepared." I'm just kidding. No, I just want to again reiterate. Thank you so much for the opportunity. um the past I guess it's been almost a month now since we went through the process and the appointment and I've just
had a great opportunity to really get to know you all the community and I'm really excited to get started on Monday officially. Um and just thank you for the opportunity. I'm excited for the amazing things that we're going to do together. Um and I just want to thank the principles who are here uh tonight. Thank you all. Thank you for all your support. CS Arts folks, all the people that are here tonight. I don't know if you're here for me, but thank you for being here. [laughter] We had quite a crowd last time, so um but anyway, just excited to get started. Um I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, but I'm looking forward to collaborating and taking action and just taking our our district to the next level. So, thank
you so much for the opportunity. >> Great. Thank you so much. Really appreciate it. Mr. Crosby said at 12:01 on Monday morning, the the the bat phone goes to you. [laughter] Sounds good. I'm ready. >> All right. Excellent. Thank you so much. >> Thank you. [applause] >> All right. Um now moving on to 14.1. Uh this is to receive for information the evaluation of the effectiveness of title one part A funded programs and services for uh 202425. Uh that's just to receive for information. 14.2 2. This is the uh for the approval of the 202526 single plans for student achievement for all Deward Unified School Districts. Do I have a motion to approve? >> So move. >> Second. >> Motion by board member Diaz, second by board member Hogin. Is there any discussion? Seeing none,
all those in favor say I. >> I. >> Passes 50. Next we have uh 15.1. This is resolution number 07-25-26 declaring volunteers to be deemed as employees for purposes of workers compensation pursuant to labor code section 3364.5. Do I have a motion to approve? >> So move >> second. >> Motion by board member Reyes, second by board member. Is there any discussion? >> Yes, Mr. Crosby. So, this is something new that came down from the state. >> Yes. I'll have uh Miss Bell speak to us about this. >> Okay. Thank you. >> This is a part of our um insurance with our JPA or Joint Powers Authority and so all of our members have to bring this resolution to board >> and everybody every school district is doing this in the state of California. >>
I can't tell you what every school district is. >> Okay. So, this isn't a mandatory a mandate. mandatory, but I don't know if everybody's implementing it. >> Okay, thank you. >> Any other questions or comments from the board? >> All right, sounds good. Um, so we can go ahead and vote on that. So, all those in favor say I. >> I. That passes 50. >> Next, we have item 15.2, authorization to revise uh certification of signatures. Do I have a motion to approve? >> So, move. Oh, second. Okay. Motion by board member Diaz, second by board member Reyes. Is there any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor say I. >> I. All righty. That passes 5. So that now takes us to the non-aggendaized items portion of our meeting. Um so I will um
I'm going to go ahead and start out with board member Holene and then I I know I know. and then I will I will go to our uh our student board rep to see if she has anything else to say and then we'll we'll go from there. But I'll I'll give some heads up here. So, board member Hin, >> thank you so much for the heads up. Well, I just want I want to welcome you, Dr. Madana. We're looking forward to working with you. We have a lot of work ahead of us and um I I feel like we made the right choice. Um, we have a lot of stuff going on in the city and I, as you guys know, I go to most things. So, I've gotten around. I went to the Di
Mutos at Beersley. I went to the City of Hope Walk and the cheerleaders were there cheering um the crowd. It was amazing. You guys did great. And Alexis, if you guys don't know, she is one of the cheerleaders. Um the snow angel play at the blackbox that was incredible. Um I recommend you guys go to the next play and the Banfield that was amazing as well. Um the kids today I just so impressed. Um, I'm so glad that you um went on this journey of searching for a superintendent um job and that you found us and that we found you. And I just have this immense sense of hope and promise for the future of our district. Um, and I can't wait for the stories we'll tell about um the work that's going to be done. So, welcome uh Mr. Crosby. Thank you so much for stepping in um taking on the extra duties um and continuing to steer the ship seamlessly over the course of the last couple of months. Um it's been it's it's hard to to lose your leadership and to find a new person and so thank you so much for stepping in.
Um just very appreciative of you. So thank you. Um couple of things again. Uh, thank you, Miss Romero, for your presentation tonight and, um, the presentation by your incredible students. Um, uh, Maxwell, I had the opportunity to attend your IB family night a couple of weeks ago. Um, and it was just incredible to be able to see the type of work that students are doing across all grade levels um through that IB model and just how it it goes above and beyond your traditional um education model and you could really see uh the benefits that students are getting out of that. So definitely enjoyed that. Um had the opportunity to attend the Valley View multicultural lunch a couple weeks ago. Um they had their diia de los muertos theme with their ofrena. Um teachers and
sixth grade students really put a lot of thought into it. Um had a nice taco truck and so that was great. Uh we had our DHS field show this Tuesday and so we were able to host um some talented marching bands um in their auxiliary to perform um on the DHS field um and be awarded for their efforts. Um, and then Alexis, thank you for continuing to serve as our student board member and the information that you shared with us. Um, want to just make sure that we follow up on that culinary arts issue and get that resolved so that you guys have the food and and whatever you need to fully participate and take advantage of that class. So, thanks for letting us know. And that's all. >> Mr. Ryance, you were going to
call me Tony, huh? Insight. Insight. That's the name they put on the contract that needed to be corrected tonight. [sighs] >> Mr. Crosby, thank you. Thank you for jumping in and and uh taking the helm for a couple months. Really appreciate it. Uh also, um I'd like to also like everyone else congratulate Dr. Madano and welcome. And I too also look forward to working with you. I know great things are going to happen in Dewarti going forward. Beards had a great event. U I was uh happy to attend and and the and the students the children did an excellent job. You know hopefully hopefully we can do more more of that make it even bigger you know citywide type of thing over there. It'd be really nice. Um yes, Alexis, thank thanks thanks for sharing.
Okay, that that's important to know about the culinary class and it takes courage to say to say what needs to be said. Okay, so thank you for that. Um, also to all of you too, uh, happy have a happy Thanksgiving and hope you enjoy that time with your family because, uh, we won't be here until a month from now, I'm guessing. Have a good evening. Thank you. All right. Uh, thank you very much, Mr. Reyes. Uh, so I will, um, I'll go you can go you can go last. How about that? I I see you like frantically writing down. I want >> I just echo their their comments. >> Okay. Well, you you can you can echo you can you can echo. So, uh so I do I just want to go ahead and and
uh you know also express my sincere gratitude uh to Mr. Crosby this um it it um I've just been so so with with Mr. Crosby and him stepping into this position and not not only covering uh you know following the the departure of Dr. Hillman um her position but also his his real position. So it was really um a heavy lift. I I have had to to do something similar at work for several months and it is not easy to try to do it both and he did a masterful job of that. So I really I do want to express my sincere gratitude to him. Uh and I am so thankful for his uh willingness and ability to step up and and do what he did. I um you know his level of communication with
the board was just second to none. So thank you very much Mr. Crosby. It was it was fantastic. Um I I I want to just um talk a little bit about the snow angel play. uh that uh I went to. Um it it is um it is so I I I was not a a drama kid. I was not a theater kid um in school. And I think I know why. Well, there's probably a lot of reasons why, but the the thing that I'm thinking about is I get so touched by watching those kids perform. I mean it is it is so amazing to see how in character they get and like I said I I was just I was really blown away by that and it is um it it's a true gift and
a talent you know I I have um erroneously thought that you know hey you you just some people are good actors and some people are not but it is it is a talent that people develop over years and years and and and these students, you can just tell that they they this wasn't just a fact of memorizing a script. This was really pulling the essence out of that script and making it come to life. and and so it was it was a real honor to be able to attend that and you know when when whenever uh Miss Bartlett you know emails out um or maybe it's in Parent Square I don't know which one it is but I saw that and I I told Megan I said we're we're going to one of those nights
because every time I go to the Blackbox Theater and I see them perform I am impressed beyond words. So uh it's it's such an honor to see them be able to perform and do something that they love. Um and it's something that they work hard at and so really fantastic to see that. Um and I just want to close by um again welcoming Dr. Madrono. Um we we are very excited to have you uh join this team and we have um every confidence uh in ourselves working with you to to bring great things out of this great district. Um, you know, there's I I don't think anyone here would would argue that we are not already a fantastic district, but every district can get better and that's what we all have the mindset of doing
is to grow and do better. And so I'm I'm grateful that that you're you're you're hitching your horse to our wagon and uh we're going to we're going to go the distance. So, thank you very much and we look forward to working with you. Uh, all right, Miss Diaz. Thank you, Senor Presidente. I I echo my my colleagues uh comments, but I want to share something that um that kind of touched my heart on uh Tuesday night at the uh uh band's um band competition. There was a little boy, Grayson. He's six years old and he was the most professional kid presenting the trophies to us in order for us to walk to walk to the middle of the uh campus to give to the football field to present the trophies. That kid was counting
our steps. Well, go. Good job. Good job. Good job. You cannot believe how he did it. And that kid attend our school district. >> He goes to Balibu. It is amazing to see tonight the presentation from Bersley school. I mean and it it was outstanding presentation but I have seen that from each school in different um different presentations but it's successful and I think that we need to to let know the world how dare is about we are helping many hundreds of kids to be human beings to serve the community. When you really admire a six years old student doing what this little kid he said Rosa Laura Tom Dr. Medano Mr. Crosby and I each of us go and sometime he asked us to help us to carry with us he w to it
was unbelievable. So I'm I am very very pleased and happy and blessed to be able to be part of this group. Uh Mr. Crosby I echo the words of all of us. I know um when a man had the power to go and knock on my door one day many years ago and say your grandson is still here and I go yes and he was with the little bottle of water and went to his room and water him wet him and say you have to go to school you can lead the world [laughter] it is unbelievable Mercedes there is no way that I can say thank you for helping me any time that I need anything any what time that I need to be there and it it is amazing the word that this team
is a is an amazing team and and Dwarte district is a family a family they have cousins and OFL and CSR and it is a family we might think different but we still family to help the our family our youngest ones to be real humans men with that um I want to say something else that is not uh I hope that you don't take it wrong but I know that we are preparing um for the future but I have a question um regarding MIT where is our situation with MIT right now I hear comments that is going here is going there but I haven't hear anything I don't know if you know or our staff know where they're going but I think that and you don't have to say it right now but I think
it is the right moment to ask when we as a board members can ask any kind of questions. So um I just I'm concerned about that because the community asked me right now where MIT is going I don't know. So with that thank you Mr. President. >> All right thank you very much board member Diaz. Uh, all right. I think the only one left on the list here is Mr. Crosby, so you get the last word. >> Thank you. And, uh, there's a couple items I want to make sure I address as well. Thank you, Alexis, for bringing that up to us. Um, I know that, um, the chef Prince, he has ordering um, access to our food service vendor as well, so that that takes a lot of pre-planning to make sure, but there's
food that's available through that. And we also have uh cow cards from Mr. Haro and the smart and final. So I know Mr. Haro and Miss Bell have been working on that to make sure everything's done. But uh the pre-planning from our food services as well. So it's not uh just the food that day, but Mr. Prince, Chef Prince has access for that too. So I want to thank the team about uh MIT. Uh one thing we are are the whole team is working with Dr. Madron's first thing is make sure the board is addressed and knows everything that's going to be happening there. So, we'll be bringing that back to the board as either a presentation or a study session for the board to know that as well. Um, thank you. Thank you for
all the um appreciative um speech to me tonight, but I wanted to say I I could not do this uh this last month and a half without especially two ladies sitting down there. I want to make sure we acknowledged all of our our principles and directors, but we have um our assistant superintendent of business, Miss Tiffany Bell, and our senior director of educational services, Dr. Kelly Lawson. They uh it wasn't me lifting everything. It was a team effort, lifting things up to make sure that everything was being done being done correctly. Thank you, Mercedes, and making sure dotting the eyes, crossing the tees, and making sure everything done right and not just correct, but right for students. And appreciate the team for what they did they do every single day. Dr. Madano, welcome. We got
a great team and we're looking really forward to your leadership and working with you alongside you to make sure that Dwardy as we know it is the best place to be. Thank you. And thank you board. [laughter] Uh all right with that uh we can go ahead and have a motion to adjurnn this meeting. Is there a motion to adjurnn? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Motion by board member Maria. Second by board member O'Gin. Any discussion? Seeing none. All those in favor say I. >> I. All right. Thank you very much board and community.
