Graduating with a GPA of 4.29 is our 2026 solidictorian, Kenneth Nyman. >> Next year, Kenny will be attending the University of Virginia, majoring in economics. And graduating with a GPA of 4.4 is our 2026 validictorian Sophie Jenkins. [cheering] Sophie will be attending
the University of Washington majoring in social science. Finally, please give a big warm thank you to our sign language interpreters today. I would like to recognize and congratulate all students receiving their diplomas today, marking the beginning of the next chapter of our lives. This accomplishment has taken a lot of hard work from all of us. And thank you to the families and friends who have continually supported us to reach this big moment. I want to personally thank all people who have encouraged me. Thank you, Dad, for giving up so much for us to have a better life. Mom, for supporting me, and Chrissia, for being the best role model. I also would not be here without all my peers, the service staff who have constantly pushed me every step of the way, like Mrs. Berma
and my best friend who made high school truly enjoyable. Now to the class of 2026. We will go from spending approximately 4,816 school hours together over four years to never sharing a high school classroom again. This change is a big one. So spend as much time with those you love while you can. When I reflect on our time in high school, I will miss the moments we got together the most. I don't know about you guys, but my favorite class memory was our roaring 26's junior year homecoming float. Not only did our football team win the game, but the feeling of community was so overwhelming that night in September. Plus, our float definitely looked the best. It is bittersweet to know that this is all coming to an end after today. But I am so
excited to see what the future has in store for us. Whatever you decide to do this summer or fall, I hope to see you succeed on the path you choose. The best chapters of our story have not been written yet. High school was where we learned and grew together, but there is so much more for our graduating class to discover. Be the change you want to see. Never forget where you come from. And know you have people to support you in the years ahead. Now, I would like to welcome our principal, Mrs. M Aam to give us a few words of wisdom. All right. Good evening everyone. Our remarkable graduates, proud families, devoted teachers, and dedicated staff. As we celebrate this milestone, we pause to acknowledge that our seats are not quite full. We hold
space in our hearts today for the students, family, friends, and mentors who are no longer with us. Though they are not here to see us walk this stage, their love and guidance paved the way for us to be here. Please join me in a moment of silence to honor their memory and the lasting impact they have left on our lives. Thank you. May we continue to carry their memory forward. Tonight, as I stand before you, I feel immense pride and gratitude. Pride in the extraordinary young people sitting before us, the class of 2026. and gratitude for the community that has guided, supported, and believed in you every step of the way. Graduation is more than a ceremony. It is a reflection, a mirror, showing us not just what we have achieved, but who we have
become in the process. And what I see in each of you tonight is determination, resilience, and heart. As I stand here tonight, I want to share something deeply personal with you. Not as your principal, but as a Middle Eastern woman whose story began far from here. I learned early on how to move between two worlds. At home, I spoke one language, embraced traditions, and carried the stories of generations before me. At school, I navigated a different culture and different expectations. I have learned that life is not about sticking to one fixed path or one fixed identity. It is about adapting. To adapt and blend two words to honor the culture that I raised, that raised me and to embrace the one that welcomed me. And that balance, that adaptability became my greatest strength. At first,
that balance felt impossible. But over time, I realized that adaptability does not mean losing yourself. It means learning how to grow without letting go of who you are. Adaptability is not about changing who you are. It's about expanding who you are. And graduate, you have lived that lesson. Through high school, you have adapted to new classes, new friends, new teachers, new expectations, and in new challenges. You adapted when things did not go your way. When you faced setbacks and when you when and when doubts crept in. Each time you had a choice to hold back or to rise. And you chose to rise. As you step into, as you step into what comes next, college, careers, the military, or another path, you will encounter change. The world is evolving quickly. You will face a new
expectations, a new environments, and a new challenges. You will need adaptability to navigate that change without losing yourself. Adapt adaptability is your p superpower and it is the key trait that will ground you. But adapt adaptable ah okay but adapt adapt okay I can't say the word now but adaptability is alone is not enough is what transforms with growth into leadership and success. Accountability means owning your actions, your decisions, and your impact. It means learning from mistakes instead of avoiding them. It means asking more of yourself, not because you have to, but because you can. Today, you graduate with more than knowledge. You graduate with perspective, empathy, and the understanding that different parts of who you of who you are can coexist, strength and compassion, tradition and ambition, identity and opportunity. This is not the
end of your story. It is the beginning of a chapter where you decide how you will grow, how you will lead, and how you will shape the world around you. Your journey will ask you to learn, unlearn, and learn again, and then pivot when the ground shifts beneath you. You will need to embrace change even when it feels uncomfortable. And you will need to trust that each challenge is preparing you for something greater. So when the path ahead feels uncertain, do not step back, step forward. Stay open, stay resilient, stay true to your values. Because success is not about a perfect plan. It is about having the courage to grow and adapt through change. Your ability to adapt will define your impact. Do not fear change. Lean into it and lead through it. Adapt boldly,
adapt wisely, and adapt with purpose. And if my journey has shown me anything, it is this. No matter where you begin with adaptability, determination, and belief in yourself, you can rise, you can lead, and you can make a difference. And another piece of advice, never forget the community that raised you. Stay connected and grateful to those who propped you up. And as I close, I will leave you with one more phrase that I have learned and has guided me through life. Be a light wherever you are. Congrat Congratulations class of 2026. You absolutely make all of us very proud. Go forward. Ready to adapt, to grow, and to lead. Congratulations. Thank you for such inspiring words, Mrs. Aam. As I said before, this year's validictorian is graduating with an impressive GPA of 4.4. This moment
has been on her mind since she was in the sixth grade. Talk about goal oriented. Please welcome to the podium Sophie Jenkins. Thank you, Veronica. As noted, I first began thinking about my speech for this moment when I was 12 years old. It's likely that for us, school was the last things on our mind during that period. And this is true for me as well. During what I like to call my gap year in the place of seventh grade, I wasn't enrolled in school. I didn't do a single assignment, and I had barely so much as a conversation with anybody else my age. My year was entirely composed of sleeping and watching hours upon hours of criminal minds. I can recall after long nights and mornings spent laying in bed, lacking motivation to even get
up, standing in front of my bathroom mirror and wishing for some form of reprieve. Some nights I would dream of a different universe, one where 2020 was not nearly so devastating. And some nights I would dream of a distant future, at a time where I wasn't sure if I could even make it to this age. I would picture myself standing up strong and smiling in front of people who I knew and those who I hope to know one day. Two years ago during sixth period AP world history, one of my classmates asked me something about what motivates me to keep up with my schoolwork. I wasn't sure how to respond. The kind of embarrassing thing is I was told when I was younger that I would do great things. And in sixth grade, I was
set up perfectly to follow through with that. I did everything right when I was 11. And I couldn't disappoint that version of me. The aftermath of this is that following my year of blurry memories and too much sleep, my potential felt wasted. And then when I entered high school, slightly behind where I wanted to be, I was angry that I wasn't who my younger self envisioned. So what I ended up saying to the crow across from me in that moment was, I was perfect and amazing in sixth grade before I ruined it all. And I'm not going to let an 11-year-old be better than me. In reality, I was not perfect in sixth grade, and even amazing is stretching it. I'm sure that anybody that knew me during that time can testify to that. And
I'm sure that anybody that was once in sixth or seventh grade cringes a bit at the way they were back then. >> [sighs] >> It's hard to imagine that the younger version of yourself, the one who is too quiet or too loud or sat alone at lunch tables or wore really awful graphic t-shirts to school, is part of the reason you're here today. More so, that version of yourself is here today somewhere within you. All the good, the bad, and the awkward of your past has led you here. So, you can and you should thank yourself for your presence in this room today, but you may also have those around you to be grateful for as well. I know that as much as I gave myself the will to keep going, that desire was only
empowered to its true potential by others. So, thank you to those I love for being there for me, everybody in my crazy large extended family, as well as my best friends. Thank you to everyone who walked the halls of service alongside me, students and staff, and thank you to all the people who pushed me over the course of my life. It's not that I did this for anybody else, whether of spite or love or anything in between, but that others gave me the inspiration to do this for myself. And that's something that I treasure. Now, as I stand before all of you, many years, mistakes, friendships, and lessons older, I'm on the other side of the bathroom mirror. I'm living the future I never thought I could. And it's because of a part of myself
I often failed to recognize for what it was. My best friend called it stubbornness. My AP chemistry teacher called it resilience. My parents called it stressing myself out. Whatever it was, I see it and more reflected back to me now. I know some part of the drive and dedication it has taken all of you to be sitting here. Whatever you overcame leading up to this. So whether you're now spending this moment holding back tears or if you're staring into the ceilings waiting for it to be over, this has been a long time coming. These years might be over now, but they're also over now. And that feels kind of freeing to me. Let that freedom be scary. Let it be daunting. It definitely is, but it also entails freedom to love, freedom to live, and
freedom to learn. So long as you take the chance to. I hope this freedom treats you well, and I hope you treat it well, too. Congratulations to us, Robert Service, class of 2026. [applause] Thank you, Sophie, for that heartfelt speech. We wish you the very best at the University of Washington. Now I would like to present the service high school choir under the direction of Miss Forbes. They will first sing When I Grow Up arranged by Roger Emerson with solos by seniors Princess Tapafua, Fisher Roland, Samantha Campbell, Misha Leance, Ellen Ox, and Savannah Lenel, which will then be followed by their performance of the Service High School Alma Mater arranged by Emily Smith. After the choir, we will hear from the service high school philarmonic who will perform their senior feature gravitas by soon heold

Thank you to Service High's very talented choir students and their director, Miss Forbes, and to the services, Phil Harmonic. To our seniors, we hope you continue to carry music in your hearts. Now, please welcome our student speaker, Princess Topafua. Hold on, let me
fix my crown. Um, before I begin, I want to say hello to my family who I didn't tell at all that I'd be giving this speech. Surprise. Um, I also want to take a moment to thank all the family, friends, faculty, and teachers who made this day possible. Thank you for putting up with our last minute projects and having to deal with some of us showing up to class with only 10 minutes left. We truly appreciate everything you have done for us. I'd also like to give a special thank you to my parents and my siblings for dealing with my constant procrastination and for always believing in me. You got you don't know how much your support has helped me throughout these years. I love you guys. I'm so grateful to have been given the
honor of being your class speaker. [snorts] As I look out at everyone here today, I'm filled with so much joy. When I think of Robert Service High School, I think of us being the true Southside, pride, and unity. Because nothing brings people together like a quiz we all forgot about until five minutes before class. But in all seriousness though, this class is full of so many diverse groups. And I think that's exactly what makes service. We are all so different. Different backgrounds, different personalities, and different plans. But somehow we all ended up in the same place. the same halls, the same classrooms, the same teachers calling us when we very clearly did not do the reading. [snorts] We've all had those moments showing up late like we weren't just at the coffee shop waiting for
a Lotus, acting confused when the teacher says it was due yesterday, or tell me if you remember this, or going to the bathroom just to find out it's locked and having to walk across the school to find one open. [snorts] And let's not forget our freshman year still trying to figure out where D121 or G123 is and stressing out about how big the school was. But even with all that, we made it. Every awkward moment, every stressful night, every I'm so done with this school moment, we're still here together. [snorts] And that's something I don't think we talk about enough. We didn't just go to the same school, we grew up together in ways we probably didn't even notice at the time. Now, suddenly, we're at this point where everyone keeps asking, "What's next?" And
to be frank, that question is a little scary. Because the truth is, not all of us know. >> [snorts] >> Some of us have everything planned out and some of us are still figuring it out day by day. But that doesn't make anyone behind. It just makes us human. Life isn't something you have to have perfectly mapped out at 18 or 17 or 16. It's okay to not know. It's okay to change your mind. And it's okay to take your time. So, as we leave here today, I hope you don't feel pressured to have all the answers. I hope you trust yourself enough to figure things out along the way because one day we're going to look back on this moment. Not the stress, not the assignments, but the people, the laughs, the memories we
didn't even realize we were making. And [snorts] even though we're all going in different directions, a part of us will always be connected by this place and by each other. So, take your time, go at your own pace, become who you're meant to be, and no matter where life takes you, don't forget where you started. Congratulations, class of 2026. We did it. Go Cougs. [cheering] >> Thank you, princess. We will miss seeing your beautiful smile and hearing your amazing voice. Next, I'd like to introduce our faculty speaker. This teacher is retiring after 30 years of using her degrees in physical education and art to teach and coach at Bartlett Greening and service. Her retirement plans include traveling, visiting family, drinking warm coffee, and using the bathroom whenever she wants. So, please welcome to the podium,
Mrs. Terry Jensen. Wow. Good evening, family, friends, teachers, and 2026 service graduates. First, I want to say what an honor it is to be able to speak to you tonight as you embark on your next adventure. I also want to thank Mrs. Aam for her support, true leadership, and for giving me my love of teaching back. I believe service has the best principle in the state of Alaska. Hands down. Hands down. All right. If you have ever taken one of my classes before, you know I tell you that you can do hard things. Moving forward into a world that you will that will not hand you a clear map can be difficult, overwhelming, and exciting all at the same time. I have three pieces of advice for you. First, find your purpose. Your purpose is
bigger than just your career. It's about how you show up in the world. Purpose isn't something you suddenly find like a hidden treasure. It's something you build over time through curiosity, failure, courage, and the small decisions you make every day. Right now, you don't need to have everything figured out, and you shouldn't feel like you have to. You just need to take the next step. Growth happens when you challenge yourself and step outside of your comfort zone. There will be times when things don't go as planned, when plans fall apart and you start to question your choices. When that happens, keep moving forward. Perseverance builds character and character builds hope. Say yes to opportunities that scare you. As Ferris Buer put it, life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop or if you don't look
around once in a while, you might miss it. And when you achieve something, no matter how big or small, take time to celebrate it. Your future is what you make it. That's not pressure. That's freedom. Don't wait for purpose to find you. Try new things. Try hard things. Fail. Learn. Grow. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." Second, find your people. The connections you build matter just as much as your goals as as the goals you chase. Don't get so focused on success that you overlook the people who make that success meaningful. Finding your people takes time. You may feel out of place in your new environments, college, jobs, or a new city, new state. Sometimes the people
you expect to support you won't. That could be a boss, that could be a co-orker, that could be a roommate, or even someone you thought you knew very well. You might do everything right, show up, give your best to that person, care deeply, and still be let down. That's not a reflection of you. It simply means they weren't your right people. Don't let that stop you from continuing to look for those who are. The right people will stand by you, especially when things get hard. They will support you, not undermine you. Keep reaching out. Building real connections takes courage and persistence. Because life isn't meant to be lived alone. It also takes putting your phone down and being present along the way. Trust your instincts. Not every friendship will last, and that's okay. Sometimes growth
means letting go. It doesn't mean that you have what you had was not important or needed at that time. Your people may appear in quiet, unexpected ways or all at once loud and boisterous. Be open to both. Real friendships aren't just about the good times. They're about showing up when it matters most. And remember, it's not just about finding your people. It's also about being that person for someone else. Be someone who listens, who shows up, and who cares. In the end, it's not about how long you've known someone. It's about who stands beside you when it counts. Third, the world is bigger than you. When you start to feel discouraged, shift your focus to what you can do for others. Hold the door open for someone. Help your mom with the groceries. Call your
dad not just for money. Donate blood. Make cookies for your neighbor. Volunteer at an animal shelter or at a food bank. Learn CPR. When you spend time helping others, your challenges will feel more manageable. and you reminded that you have the power to make a difference in somebody's life. Even if that difference is as simple as making someone smile. As you cross this stage and step through those doors towards new adventures, stay present in each moment. Cherish the connections you've made and be brave in seeking out new opportunities, trusting that they will also find you. Remember that while everything is permissible, not everything is beneficial. Move forward with maturity and wisdom. Make smart choices and stay safe. Congratulations, Robert Service, class of 2026. [applause] Thank you, Mrs. Jensen. We will miss you and wish you
the best of luck on your next adventure. Now, please welcome back to the podium our principal, Mrs. Imtia Zazam, who will present the class to Dr. Bryant. All right, this is the moment. Okay, will the members of the class of please rise? [cheering] >> [cheering] >> All right, Dr. Bryant.
