because he seems to go last every time and we'll go to mr whitton next time so mrs rubio you'll be last around uh today all right thank you dr mclaughlin president bushy members of the board i knew you're gonna pick me first by the way all right so like all high schools and fourteen joining high school district we had a professional development day on november 1st we are all continuing to adapt as we return to normal school and we are grateful for this opportunity to support our staff and students for our staff our mental health coordinator mr carlos alcantara gave a one-hour 15-minute presentation on building emotional intelligence focusing on educator wellness key to the presentation was the feelings tree with his trunk of repressed emotions manifested as anger it was intense it was fantastic
and it helped staff recognize the importance of taking time to recognize feelings and acknowledge their impact upon our emotional well-being it was truly one of the most outstanding and impactful professional development trainings of which i have been part for students and teachers ms tiffany wilson our troy high school as well as our fullerton joint avid coordinator took time to review avid strategies which really are very effective in structural strategies that have been adopted by avid and these strategies have been organized under the avid wikor banner which is writing inquiry collaboration organization and reading and are the ha and are the heart of avid instructional strategies miss wilson laid out how these strategies can be used in any class for any level indeed in the past miss wilson used these various strategies to raise her ap
u.s history student scores and other teachers have used these strategies as well and she has presented on this as well in the past but it's been a while especially coming out of a pandemic the use of the wick or across the curriculum and throughout the school is good pedagogy and is very much a work smarter than harder which benefits both students and teachers and we needed this reminder and it was a timely training regarding some proven instructional strategies so thank you and this concludes my report thank you dr minister mr whitton sunny hills thank you dr mclaughlin president bushy members of the board with fall sports wrapping up we're thrilled that our girls tennis team has advanced the semi-finals and they play again tomorrow they'll be in the cif finals on friday if they advanced
and our girls golf team won cif for the first time in school history uh sophomore yourang lee is still competing for state from here if she advances she'll be playing at pebble beach so i'm going to see if she needs a caddy we're also excited to celebrate our marching band they've been working hard on their field show and took first place in all categories last weekend high music high visual high percussion high general effect they always score well but this was the first where they got the clean sweep and i think it i you know i want to compliment them for staying vigilant throughout last year and hybrid learning those kids were working hard even from home or whatever however they could you know stay together as a team really proud of them they have
two more big competitions coming up this saturday and next weekend and last our conservatory of the fine arts hosted an incredible outdoor fall festival in the quad this with theatrical dance musical performances and more it's been so fun watching our kids perform again thank you and this concludes my report thank you mr whitton from boyne park high school dr berg thank you dr mclaughlin president bushy and members of the board i'd like to highlight some individual coyotes this month for their outstanding work as we head into the back end of this semester first is our boys and girls cross country coach he's also our girls soccer coach edwin cornejo he was recognized as the mount sac invitational coach of the year a few weeks ago when our all of our teams placed in the top
four of their respective divisions with our girls varsity winning the whole thing so that was really exciting for them and we had senior ariana mendoza she individually placed at the meet which means she had to finish in the top five of the hundred and something runners uh that that were there so quick plug our girls varsity they compete this saturday at the at mount sac again so that's where the cif prelims are so good luck to them hopefully that that's a little good luck from the fact that they won it just a couple weeks ago so that should be pretty good but it's really early saturday morning so grab some coffee if you want to head up we also just recently recognized our october students of the month and while we recognized the multitude of
students in my latest newsletter two really stood out because they just happened to be recognized by different departments same kid so they're obviously fantastic students so sarah nguyen ninth grade she was recognized by both ap human geography and honors bio and her teachers just talk great things about her obviously ask questions participates in class works diligently she's a self-motivated learner and she's very creative and insightful thinker so so very great things for sarah and then a senior kevin yu who was recognized by both ap government and ap stats um exemplary student he's such a wonderful student to have in class and his stats teacher wrote that kevin works to achieve perfection is not afraid to ask questions and one really interesting fact about kevin as i just heard about three hours ago from his counselor
that he has an interview with stanford coming up so really cool we're keeping our fingers crossed for him because i know that's somewhere that he really wants to attend in the fall so um that's it for my student report or my board report sorry you did the student report for my board report for uh for november you're a kid at heart always always support it's important for all of us from la vista la sierra high schools uh mrs lyanna thank you dr mclaughlin president bushy members of the board in my last board report i spoke about abc which is one of the five programs that operate under the alternative education umbrella of la sierra high school tonight i'm going to showcase another la sierra program the adult transition or atp program for short atp supports
non-diploma bound 18 to 22 year old students the focus of the program is the acquisition of functional academic vocation mobility and independent living skills to improve employment rates and enrollments into post-secondary programs for its students the la sierra atp classrooms or hubs are located throughout our district allowing our students to learn the bus routes to receive vocational training and to access recreation in their own neighborhoods so they can be more independent upon completion of the program there are nine atp teachers and 35 paraprofessionals supporting these students this team has collaborated with over 40 local businesses to develop jobs which give our students authentic work experiences surveys of students who have completed the atp program show that the majority of students are receiving paid or support or supported employment and or participating in adult programs or
continuing education these outcomes are well above the national average of 83 percent unemployment for disabled adults these accomplishments have not gone unrecognized atp has received both the golden bell and the prestigious goals award and this year atp teacher sylvie longletery was named the california teacher of the year and we're going to hear more about that later tonight in conclusion i am very proud of all the teachers and paraprofessionals in the atp program who work so hard to enable their students to lead more productive rewarding lives thank you and that concludes the vista la sierra report thank you very much from sonora high school mr atkins good evening and thank you dr mclaughlin board president bushy board members and student board member grace lee sonora high school is full of the thanksgiving spirit we would like
to take this opportunity to thank our color guard for taking second place in our band who took first place in the prestigious lorera tournament just a couple weeks ago appreciation is in the hearts and minds of our ag department we are where they received the literacy for life grant recipients the service project for their service project of building reading libraries for elementary schools gardens this is sponsored by california foundation for ag in classrooms three sonora ffa members alumni matthew corona alexis nyman and alyssa zulman were awarded their american degrees as the highest degree achievable in the national ffa association the american ffa degree shows ffa members dedication to his or her chapter and state ffa association we want to congratulate them and once a raider always a raider gratitude a balance among our ib students

soon all right thank you mr atkins and from the harbor high school mr eels thank you very much dr mclaughlin president bushi and members of the board two weeks ago highlanders had an incredible week filled with school spirit and culture we celebrated homecoming with a full week of theme dress-up days an all-school assembly in the stadium a football game that ended with our fifth consecutive league title and 20th overall a queen and king crowned with the king being troy kaufman a halloween dress-up day an incredible altar for dio de los muertos created by many of our world language department teachers and students a dance with nearly 1 000 la habra high school students in attendance and red ribbon week organized and run by our national honor society nhs which leads me to this month's group
that i am highlighting which is nhs although it is a mark of academic achievement it is more than just grades that qualifies these students as becoming a member and this is why i love celebrating this group of students co-advisors eric goalie and julie hale do a great job facilitating opportunities for the members of this group and by making sure that members reflect and uphold the pillars of scholarship service leadership and character at our annual induction ceremony last week we inducted 39 new members bringing our current active membership to an impressive 65 students what helped make the night even more special was the emphasis not only on our new inductees but also on last year's inductees this is because last year's ceremony was done via zoom not in person and so we took the opportunity to
allow those 26 students to go through an in-person ceremony as well i'm excited to share the impact that this group of students will be involved in with no empty table which is a food drive this month where nhs and approximately eight other clubs on our campus team up and we'll be collecting food for the needy a toy drive this next month where nhs groups will be teaming up across the district to collect toys for kids and then the duck gram which has become a tradition at la habra high school where small notes of appreciation or kindness can be sent to individuals of your choice along with a small christmas themed rubber duck this has proven to be an uplifting event for our campus and i am so proud of these students and happy to celebrate
them this evening so thank you and this concludes my report all right and last but not least from fullerton high school mrs rubio thank you dr mclaughlin president buchi members of the board since our last board meeting and board report we have gone on to have many activities at fullerton that have made us feel almost normal like everyone else there has been an infectious excitement throughout our school and it's great to see our students enjoying many high school milestones this last month month that they have been missing out on these last two years like homecoming halloween parades or even red ribbon week as grace mentioned earlier i want to take a moment today to celebrate the diversity on my campus on monday we celebrated national first generation day our first gen club along with their
advisors abimel mendoza and magdalena vialba organized an event at break time where many of us came together as first gen staff and students we have a large number of students who are the first in their families to not only graduate from high school but they are also making the commitment to go on to higher education and continue their studies making their families very proud we are very proud of them but also we are proud as a staff that we can be great role models for them and help guide them we have been very fortunate to have the support of our staff as we help these kids reach their goals i also want to take this opportunity to celebrate our academy of the arts our visual arts department had their first in-person gallery show last week
named ofrendas in honor of their loved ones we have talented students at fuhs and we are very proud of their work our next show is on december 8th so please make sure to stop by and enjoy a great showcase of our students work we also invite you this weekend to see our academy of the arts play the little prince which is showing this friday and saturday please bring the kids it's a fabulous play so thank you and that concludes my board report thank you very much okay thank you very much to all of you any comments from any board members you know i know um those of you in the audience are here for other reasons but i hope you're as impressed as we all are with the wonderful things that are going on at
all of our schools we're always so proud of [Applause] thank you very much next on the agenda is timely information from the board are any board members wishing to share something timely okay superintendent i believe you are always yeah never miss an opportunity well welcome audience uh president bushey members of the board and those at home um just to echo uh president bush's comments about what's going on in our schools and we know we have a lot of families and and really celebrating this success um and navigating the challenges together and and i think that's what this district is all about uh coming in as a new superintendent this year uh president bushy said to me right away so we got a lot of gifts for you got a lot of presents for you and
what she meant is the people and i said it over and over again from the community to the staff i do want to highlight a group a team that i get to work with day in and day out often times many times throughout the day and that's the cabinet uh in the executive uh uh or the the senior managers um i really just want to say thank you right it's been a transition into four or five months these are the people i work with close the most closely every day um your level of commitment to this district some of you've been in this district since you were a student here and so just really appreciate you and the effort that you put forward in helping to to direct the district so thank you for that
um november 1st was a non-student day and often times the community says why aren't you having kids in school other than being the day after halloween which we know is a good time for students to rest it's a good time for us to learn as a district and to hear some of the reports on those days and we had a chance to go to each one of the sites and visit and recognize our years of service those members who received uh 20 years 25 30 i think we went to 35 years of service which was exceptional uh commitment to this uh profession and their own personal commitment to these kids but we also got to see the agendas and the opportunity for you all to learn together to work with your teams to take us
into not only social emotional supports but also elevate our academic programs as well so really was a powerful day and and when you you see the non-student days on your schedule and you wonder what's going on um it is really a very active day amongst our staff we we train we learn uh trained our our support staff as well so it was a really really powerful day so i just want to thank you all and your teams for for doing that um our highlight of the this month is on community partnerships in our newsletter and so uh had a chance to go to the habera city and present during their chamber of commerce meeting on behalf of the district to share the success with the community of la habra of all the things going on
and really a successful return to in person and again navigating uh these challenges but just want to thank our community partners from everyone from ptsa to our foundations to our boosters to rotary we have a lot of community organizations that step up and support our schools in our district and it's really really a testament of our community so i thank you all for that next month we will be celebrating our successes in after a very successful uh first semester so if you're not subscribing to the newsletter go to our website get on there and lots of information that comes out once a month the last thing is and i know there are a lot of comments tonight regarding mandates so just as a point of reference i mentioned this last month um we do understand
there's a lot of passion and energy and and looking forward to hear from the community regarding this from fullerton joint unified high school district we're watching like everybody else we're not making any swift uh hard moves you'll see there's nothing on the agenda with respect to those vaccine mandates so we're watching and learning um at the moment uh there's no energy to get this there's two opportunities that the governor mentioned uh january first and july first and january 1st is right around the corner and so there won't be any vaccine mandates within fullerton joint within the very near future but we'll be watching the state legislature and the governor as we go on and just as a reminder that it is it is something that that we uh we will be watching and following and
as a entity within the system we we will be following whatever the law is and so um with that that concludes my remarks and as always um there is no i understand there's not a lot so at this point we won't we won't be having a conversation back and forth it's just it's just comments so we'll we'll hear from the public in just a minute but whatever whatever comes down we will be watching along with you at the moment um we're reading as you are and learning and trying to navigate this situation so that concludes my comments um president did you want me to do that are we gonna go to the next one i think that's yeah okay so uh moving on from uh my comments i i would like to introduce uh dr
dr atkinson he is our assistant superintendent of human resources who will be announcing a new a new family member we'll say to fullerton joint and our assistant principal role at sonora high school so dr atkinson that is correct thank you dr mclaughlin thank you dr mclaughlin president bushy members of the board tonight is my privilege and honor to introduce to you for the first time a new assistant assistant principal of student affairs at sonora high school mr mike lee i'd like to ask mike to join me at the podium [Applause] mike is joining us as i said as assistant principal prior to joining the district mike has served for the past five years as an assistant principal for the victor valley union high school district prior to that mike served as an education programs consultant

the year i'd like to call miss sovie long to join us at the podium at this time i'd like to uh just uh give sandy liana an opportunity to speak uh sandy works directly with sovie and and understands very clearly what she brings to the students and the staff of our district thank you dr atkinson it is my pleasure to present sylvie longa terry as the california teacher of the year sovie is an adult transition teacher her hub is located on the la sierra campus which allows the medically fragile students in her class access to the extra supports that they need and under her care these students thrive part of what makes mrs long la terry's classroom so successful is the high level of commitment and participation she brings forward from her paraprofessional staff she
has given her staff the message that working with their students is a privilege she requires that they completely dedicate themselves to providing rich academically meaningful experiences to these students most of whom are non-verbal each staff member greets each student every day by looking them in the eye saying and signing good morning telling them how glad they are to see them and shaking their hand this sets the positive tone that continues throughout the day the staff is constantly rewarding the students with verbal praise thumbs up and clapping as the students learn new words in sign language complete tasks aligned to their personal goals or display appropriate social emotional behaviors the work they work together like a finely tuned orchestra seamlessly meeting the needs of their students and the conductor of that orchestra is sophie [Applause] the
people from the california department of education saw all that and more during their multiple interviews and observation of mrs longa terry and her class it's been a fun journey sophie thank you for taking me along on the ride it's been very exciting you have brought honor to the district to la sierra high school and to the adult transition program but most importantly you have showcased the adult transition program to a broader audience the amazing work you and all your atp colleagues do to help your students live more rewarding lives deserves this recognition so thank you for making that happen we're really proud of you congratulations [Applause] okay at this time i believe dr mclaughlin and uh mrs bushy would like to present as you know next time next time you get it um yeah on

in the room under the pretext of something else and then at an appropriate time we opened the door and rushed out she was so excited and then when she was the the county teacher of the year she was equally excited i said i'm glad i didn't see her pres her announcement for the state i'm afraid it would have been overwhelming so anyway congratulations again to you okay next are updates we have from our employee associations the president of the fullerton secondary teachers association angie senkek good evening president bushi superintendent mclaughlin members of the trust of the board of trustees our cabinet and principals fsto would also like to congratulate sophia she's running out the door being named california teacher of the year she will enjoy many accolades in the upcoming weeks from our cta leadership

time i'm not going to do that this time i'll indicate when you're at two minutes you can finish your sentence but we will ask you to you know complete your comments in the allotted time so with that i think we're ready is that okay so um now this is we just have one person for this topic jessica guerrero from doug chafee's office good evening board president board members superintendent and district staff my name is jessica guerrero and i'm here on behalf of the office of supervisor doug chafee to let you all know about the our upcoming young leaders program the program is designed for high school juniors and seniors who reside in the fourth district which includes the cities of anaheim brea buena park fullerton lahobra and placentia students would attend weekly saturday sessions where
they are exposed to experiences that nurture their leadership potential and prepare them for their future in college and or the workforce the program would provide students with the first-hand experience and better understanding of how county government works some of the topics we plan to cover are county departments financial literacy college college readiness professional development advocacy leadership and mental health we also have an elected officials day and invite elected officials across the local and federal level to come speak to our students our goal is to have these students leave with a better understanding of the support system they have and the resources available to them the program runs from january 15 through february 26th and applications are now open and are due december 15 via email so we asked the district to please help us spread
the word to your junior and high school students and if anyone has any questions feel free to contact our office at you very much 714-834-3440 i'm sure they will pass it on okay now some of the cards had one topic some had another topic and then some had both topics so we're just they're in a stack that they were handed to me so i'm just going to take them as they come and again we will abide by the two minute if you hear that someone has said exactly what you're going to say i would suggest that maybe you decline just so that more people can speak but that's your choice of course okay first steve hahn i'm here to voice my concern against the possibility of mandating covert vaccine to our kids next year in
the first seven weeks administering the covet vaccine in the u.s there were 15 mid-pregnancy reported miscarriages caused by the vaccine and the number continues to rise as of today it has been proven the covert vaccine may permanently interfere with the woman's ability to maintain a pregnancy the vaccine companies even acknowledge this by posting it on all their vaccine bottles it is pure arrogance to assume we know all we need to know of the new covet vaccine at this time children account for less than two percent of the diagnosed cases of covalent in the country with almost 99 percent of the cases being mild symptoms only 1.6 of children with known cova cases have been hospitalized and of that 0.01 have died and of those cases three out of four children who died from covet had
pre-existing underlying medical conditions in the 80s children basically took two vaccines tetanus and measles these pharmaceutical companies have paid over four billion dollars for vaccine injuries and deaths of children since then pharmaceutical companies have been shielded from all liabilities for the 72 different types of vaccines that is currently being circulated unfortunately instead of creating safer vaccines congress passed the national childhood vaccine injury act that eliminated pharmaceutical companies liability for vaccines providing them complete immunity when a child is injured or killed by a vaccine congress also enacted the prep fact the authorizes the secretary of the hhs to issue a declaration of public health emergency a prep back also provides immunity from all liability to the manufacturing companies of the covet vaccine although the pharmaceutical companies are not liable to the preptac does not however shield
the third party that mandate the vaccine as the immune party so in doing so if the district grants this you will be liable to all our kids health for the future thank next april keller this is interesting timing as today my daughter attending a feeder school junior high school to this district was segregated and discriminated not because she has covid but because she sat next to someone in class who tested positive recently my daughter has exhibited not one single symptom and yet was asked today whether or not she was vaccinated a violation of hipaa loss when she said no she was instantly asked to move away from the vaccinated students and then notified that she must segregate at lunch and nutrition until she tests negative vaccinated students who also sat in close proximity to the
student who tested positive do not have to segregate nutrition or lunch this is discrimination and i wonder what ridiculous protocols our students will continue to be asked to follow as they feed into this school district today certainly did not feel like a normal school day for my daughter i am here tonight as a former student of fjuhuhsd a parent of two children attending this school district and one feeding in and i'm also here as a teacher an american citizen eager to express my belief and a parent's right to choose what is best for his or her child my child i do not support mask or vaccine mandates vaccine mandates that threaten our children's rights to a non-segregated public education vaccine mandates that threaten teachers and staff members jobs vaccine mandates that threaten our freedom of
choice i expect this school board to support parent choice while ensuring equality for every student children's survival rates of covid are 99.98 percent our children's are more likely to drown in a pool die in a car accident or get struck by lightning when compared to getting the vaccine which actually makes a child way more likely to get blood blood clots and have heart problems the vaccine is still in clinical trials and i feel it is against the nuremberg code to mandate this vaccine thank you april uh next is sarah v i have no last name as a parent of four in this school district and the elementary school district my heart is broken and torn for all of our children and parents at this time for so many reasons and it's very unfortunate at this
time that we're even facing this as you know children should be our number one focus and responsibility especially every single board member that was voted into this position we voted you in there to protect our children and to stand for them it is so hard for all of us to realize what these children have gone through not only just this last school year but the last year and a half they all have had mental physical emotional distress and problems um because of this pandemic it was really unfortunate and all of us adults fortunately had a normal childhood and did not have to deal with things like what we're dealing with now um i pray that we don't think obviously the numbers are very obvious we know that there is a zero percent chance literally practically
that they are not going to die from this and that is not the issue let's be real it is all about money and other agendas unfortunately but at this time i want us to think about our children and what this will do to them by mandating this by segregating them by taking them away from this school district if you if you choose to mandate this a lot of parents are going to pull their kids they are not going to get this education from this district unfortunately they will not be able to be a part of this community whether it's through sports and programs and i growing up in this community have been a huge fan and have appreciated what this district has done so far um let's if we're going to be following the science
which a lot of us are all about science this does not follow the science by mandating this and i ask that you guys please oppose this mandate when it does become a mandate from our governor or whoever think of our children first fight for them that's why we put you in there our children come first not money not agendas [Applause] thank you sarah next is dean bennett i don't see is he in the room do you think there's a bunch outside yeah he's going to check the next one well no okay next is jake v maybe related to sarah vee good evening i'm a father of four kids in the fullerton school district first off i want to be really clear i'm not anti-vaccines i'm anti-mandating vaccines especially for children at the peak of the
pandemic adolescent hospitals rates peaked at 2.1 per 100 000 per the cdc out of those 2.1 per 100 000 70.6 had one or more underlying medical conditions that would mean hospital rates for a healthy adolescent was .504 per 100 000 at the peak of the pandemic dr rubin dr eric rubin an fda panelist and editor editor-in-chief of the new england journal of medicine said we're never going to learn about how safe the vaccine is unless we start giving it that's just the way it goes and that's how we found out about other vaccines that tells us they do not know how safe this vaccine really is his words not mine if parents want to volunteer their children to be guinea pigs for a big pharma that great please don't force it i ask that you
put our children before any political agenda and stand up for them please stand up against this mandate this is not a law we are not ran by dictators thanks [Applause] thank you jake next is karen kidwell good evening the fjuhsd community has compiled a document to express our collective voice and input to the board it is a privilege for me to quote some of these heartfelt heartfelt input from our parents teachers students and community members harold poppin let us parents take care of our kids felix gutierrez vaccine should be a choice not mandatory everyone should be able to decide over their own body kay chambers my three kids went through fjuhsd and i'm sad how things are being handled now hoping many parents and community mentors stand together against this april peters we elected you
to serve our community we are telling you how we want to be represented please hear and act and enact our wishes we will not forget how you choose to move forward marcella cavia you allowed choices during covet time why should it end now it is not your responsibility to mandate and discriminate for a vaccine and against those who choose not to have it for their own personal reasons let's all be smart here you can still get and spread covid when you're vaccinated so tell me why we should act and treat our kids differently becky smith i believe parents need to be allowed to make a decision that is best for their child requiring a vaccine that is new is not appropriate i will pull my child from public high school and place them in a
home school or private if i'm not allowed to make my own choice stephanie guillemella there should be not a vaccine mandate for children staff and or teachers the vaccine does not stop the spread of covid both vaccinated and unvaccinated can spread this virus the mandate goes against our civil liberties as americans we pay taxes and live an american legally it's our children's rights deserve in a public education please stand up to the governor newsom and protect our children staff and teachers darlene martinez i disagree with mandating vaccines for minors or anyone of any age it should be a personal choice as for also for religious persons vaccines should be a pro-choice thank you thank you karen [Applause] next we have shane kidwell i'm bringing testimony from a father who lost his son earlier this of
a year year old son a single parent i raised my boy since he was a baby he meant the world to me i got the vaccine to protect my son i don't know after march april now announcing this out it was safe for teenagers me and my sons have never been apart we're always together he was my best friend we used to go fishing camping do everything we got to find the back seat because i thought it was to protect him i thought it was the right thing to do because i played russian roulette my government lied to me i said it was safe now i go home to an empty house like i said next week is his birthday you don't want me to celebrate his birthday well everybody once we leave here don't
forget about what we're doing what they talk about what we're saying here they're gonna be enjoying time with their family and kids thanks giving up a spin at the cemetery christmas at that cemetery they need to quit pushing the son of children i lost my you know i need to protect yours they're trying to target the five to 12 year olds we're gonna have more deaths in our hands than they planned and they say it's worth the risk it wasn't worth the rest of me my son was a world he meant the world to me they could never give him back to me that's all i wanted my son back so don't make a mistake i did i did it because i thought it was a correct thing to do it wasn't he had the
choice if you guys compel this then you guys would be culpable for something like that i wouldn't do that i would start pushing back thank you [Applause] next is charles coons thank you dr mclaughlin and president beauty board members principals my family has four generations at fullerton district schools my grandpa actually went to washington middle school when it was la habra grammar school back in the 30s and 40s so i love our local schools i love this district covid has touched all of our lives we are all ready to be past it it's clear that president biden the fda and governor newsom are also ready to be passed it and they believe that mandating the vaccine is the shortest path toward that it's also clear that they believe taking away our freedom to choose regarding
this vaccine is a small price to pay i disagree please protect the rights that we parents have to choose what is best for our children the situation is changing daily breakthrough cases the need for boosters strange side effects blood clots heart problems we simply can't know about the long-term effects the benefits simply do not outweigh the risks this is not settled enough to be mandating medical treatment please join other nearby districts and protect our right to choose please make a clear statement to governor newsom that you will not enforce this mandate thank you [Applause] thank you charles next is laura rosenkranz good evening superintendent mclaughlin and trustees and administration we do understand that um this mandate and potentially this law has yet to go into effect and that is why we're here tonight we want
to come to you before this goes into effect we're asking you to speak up and advocate for us and for our kids now the only way to let our government know that our our schools will fall apart that our our communities are struggling and that we do not want this is if our representatives tell them so that's what we're asking you to do i am here because as concerned fjuhsd community members we've created a community input document including a statement to the fjuhsd board of trustees regarding the governor's vaccine mandate for schools we've spoken with neighbors friends people in the community and we've come together in the last few weeks we are a group of over 800 people at this point and growing quickly these are voters parents grandparents students and teachers all fduhsd stakeholders
we don't want our students staff or teachers to be forced to choose between an unwanted medical treatment and their jobs or their education so we're submitting a statement to you along with many comments of input from the community hundreds and hundreds and i think i'm not going to have enough time to actually read the statement right now but i'll read part of it we affirm the rights of parents to choose whether or not their children should take the covid19 vaccine and the rights of all individuals to make informed decisions about their own medical care without coercion we need you to create an official statement from our district letting our government know that we don't agree that's what we're asking for tonight [Applause] [Music] thank you laura next is faith coons good evening board members and
superintendent mclaughlin thank you for your time and attention this evening i am a proud graduate of sonora high school i have a college freshman that just graduated from sonora i have a son who is a junior at sonora and i have a son who is a 7th grader that is hoping that he will also be able to attend sonora will my junior at sonora graduate from the school he loves will my seventh grader get to attend the high school he has been dreaming of going to that is up to you i am here to ask you to fight for our children we as parents and educators have a sacred duty to guide and protect children i know that many people feel that children need to have the shot to protect the community and the people
they they live with but i ask you how is this morally or ethically right it is our duty to protect the children not the other way around please stand with the other brave districts in our state and take a stand to protect the children under your care we ask that you write a formal statement to governor newsom opposing this mandate and clearly stating that this district will not comply with the mandate please do not use the children of fju hsd as covet shields thank you [Applause] thank you faith next is chandra rose larose excuse me thank you for your time i'd like to start with a question why do we as a society vaccinate one to protect us from viruses and diseases to to prevent the spreading of diseases and viruses to others we do
this with the assumption that the benefits outweigh the risks to address the first point will the vaccine mandate protect our kids according to the american academy of pediatrics statistically zero percent of healthy children will have serious side effects or death with covid our kids do not need this so-called protection and the second point will the mandate on our kids protect others from them if they have coveted many studies show that kids are not spreaders of the virus in fact in late july of this year the cdc and dr fauci stated that vaccinations do not prevent the spread of covid with the delta variant which is why the vaccinated are still supposed to follow mask wearing and social distancing guidelines this shows that our kids do not need the vaccine mandate to protect others so do
the covid vaccine benefits outweigh the risks for kids we have very little data on the pediatric reactions and death since this is newly approved for kids but if we take a look at the adults the cdc's vaccine adverse event reporting system shows over 800 000 adverse events have been reported and over 19 000 deaths as a result of the vaccine and the scary thing about that number is according to the lazarus report from the harvard pilgrim healthcare incorporated in 2009 generally only one percent of adverse events including death from vaccines are ever even reported to the cdc site which means the number could be tragically higher members of the board you do not need to follow this mandate you can join other brave leaders in this state and in this country such as ceos of
some major airlines governors of other states and more importantly other california school districts that have stood up and said no to these and similar mandates that's my time up okay um okay well thank you [Applause] thank you chandra next is jolene denham thank you superintendent mclaughlin president buchi and board members for the opportunity to address you i'm here this evening to speak against the coveted vaccine mandate freedom has never been so fragile so close to slipping from our grasp than in this moment in this moment we are so close to losing autonomy over our own bodies so i'm here to advocate for choice i sent you two articles demonstrating the evidence that the viral load found in vaccinated individuals is the same as the viral load found in unvaccinated meaning the shot did not make
the vaccinated less infectious at all some may argue that you are protecting others by getting the shot however if the vaccinated and unvaccinated have the same amount of virus circulating in them this cannot be true so again i say there must be choice i have the final decision regarding what goes into my body and i have the right to decide that for my son who attends sonora high school not the president nor the governor nor the school board for the sake of freedom and choice i'm here to ask that the board issue a statement to the governor and to the board of education a podi opposing the covid vaccine mandate please stand up for the freedom and the right to choose i will withdraw my son from sonora high school if this mandate proceeds i
will not comply thank you [Applause] thank you jolene next is viarella thank you all for your time and attention today we are one community and as such i urge you to support choice regarding covet vaccination and standing against vaccine mandates i am a sonora graduate my sister is a sonora graduate a cousin went there i have three children one at sunny hills and two headed there hopefully in my work experience of approximately 20 years and a doctoral degree in biology research some of my reasons for being against this vaccine mandate are kind of scientific so i apologize in advance i'll try to keep it simple i have five main points healthy children have no medical need for a forced coveted vaccination here i have pulled 38 research studies why vaccinating children is unnecessary and poses
dangerous risks the pfizer randomized controlled trial only tested 2300 children only two short months showed zero deaths the pfizer data looked during looked at data during the alpha wave the alpha variant it's not very valid for delta may work for a little while but it won't be valid for newer strains compare this the death risk is one in one million of getting kovid but the myocarditis risk is one in a few thousand stanford researchers and found that from uh data in 11 countries they had a 99 percent survival rate in children ages 0 to 19. i'll mention my next few points pretty quickly you've already heard about the vaccine adverse reporting system veyers total reports increased by 46 times in the past year deaths increased a hundred times in the past year there's also a
lack of information about what to do with over half the population likely in california adults and children who've already had covid natural immunity 29 research papers that i've pulled listed here that support durable lifelong humidity in the covid recovered my last point is that the covid shot risks are much higher than covert infection and we now have many covet treatments available so please consider that one mandate does not work for all help all of us to stop these coercive mandates and keep our children in school and keep the choices open thank you [Applause] thank you virella next is scott rosencrans good evening president bushy members of the board dr mclaughlin am i done already i don't think i got my full two minutes uh no respectfully i'm not going to repeat much of what has
been said out of your request but as you were speaking earlier dr mclaughlin i want to affirm that the rule of law is a really important thing and as you guys are considering that please also consider title vii of the american civil rights act and the first amendment of the united states constitution that guarantees certain rights above state laws also i think it's you're wise to be thinking about this and listening a lot i understand why you would do that it's a tough time to be a leader in any organization these days so i respect that but i ask that as you were listening don't do so with a distant neutrality to what people are saying one of my idols is a man named ely vicelle who survived concentration camps won a nobel peace prize
and wrote one of my favorite books one that i get to teach called night and ely vicel once said neutrality helps the oppressor never the victim don't be neutral please i ask on behalf of these families many teachers and staff members who have deep convictions against being vaccinated thank you for your time [Applause] thank you scott next is jack adams good evening board my name is jack adams i'm a computer science and physics teacher at sunny hills high school um it's ironic i do agree with everybody here i'm against the vaccine mandate but i'm actually more to discuss why we're wearing these right now but i'm strangely going to use risk as like inverted argument see i'm also a father i have a 10 month old right now and she's getting close to walking she's
like standing kind of step back she tries she stumbles sometimes she falls sometimes there's risks with this but you know what that's how you grow up that's how you become somebody stronger that's how we become better people and right now the youths in our school they're they're losing the courage to take risks they're being shaped in a way that always needs higher authority to tell them what to do what to fear and how to live and why is risk seen as such a bad thing i mean if you've ever experienced moments of happiness or hey professional success i imagine a lot of us are grateful there is risk in all parts of life this is nothing new so basically i feel that our kids are losing this daring trait which means our schools are not
going to generate leaders they're not going to create capable people who can actually handle the future that is coming to us to me there's just so much more to life than worrying about this disease i feel it is time to move on vaccines masks it should always be your personal choice if you want it or not i'm here tonight to ask you to openly allow those of us who are not afraid to set an example to our student body teachers are meant to give more than instruction but also to be role models let us show who has courage show with our faces our smiles our district has always been a shining model to all the schools of california let us actually leave the state by setting an example we can lift the fear of our
children bring them back to taking risks and shape them to become productive members of society thank you [Applause] thank you jack next is matthew fillmore i'm here tonight to speak on behalf of my children teachers administrators staff and anyone else who's being adversely affected by the mandates my family and i moved to this area primarily because of the amazing reputation of the school district we still believe the school district is handling the current situation better than most my wife and i in solitary their family friends and members of the community pose the mandates and arbitrary guidelines that are dividing our society we know what is happening in this country as well as the rest of the world and who is responsible we are against all medical procedures that violate any of the 10 principles the
number code we object to these procedures being forced without informed consent even if they obtain approval from something such as the fda we will never agree to allow anyone to force us to use a product that has no liability for adverse reactions our goal is to work with the school board in opposing these mandates these mandates violate due process and equal protection as described in section 1 14th of minute forcing the students teachers administrators and staff to leave the means by which they provide for their families and contribute to society will not restore the unity that our country so desperately needs the implementation of such an idea will only lead to the destruction of our civilization we must defend freedom instead of pretending that tyranny can cure disease i am not asking permission for sovereignty
over decisions involving my child's health care i am reminding everyone that god given rights will be legally and lawfully protected as described by the constitution this is not simply my opinion but a belief shared with the united states court of appeals the fifth circuit has stated november 5th 2021 in case 21 60845 because the petitions give cause to believe there are grave statutory and constitutional issues with the mandate we respectfully ask for your partnership in opposing the mandate [Applause] thank you matthew next is christy watson good evening everyone my name is christy and my son is a sophomore at la habra high school gold highlanders earlier this year when the vaccine became available our family talked together weighed the risks and decided that one thing we could do to contribute to the common good was
to get vaccinated all of us when it became our turn i'm here today not because i have issues with vaccinations rather i'm here today to join you in pushing back against state mandates that issue extreme consequences for reasonable parental concern today you've heard a good bit of information about the dangers of vaccinations for children and teenagers but the reality is this even if the vaccine vaccines provided 100 protection from the virus even if they perfectly prevented the spread even if there was zero report of injury from vaccinations it's still completely rational and reasonable for parents to say this is a new medication there's no way to know about long-term effects and it doesn't seem to be necessary to keep my child safe the data demonstrates that our district is similar to school districts around the
nation and we haven't seen a rash of cases showing that it spreads quickly in our schools instead when school opened in august we learned that school-age children are not the population that needs emergency interventions therefore the threat from our leaders to expel students from school who continue to hesitate and ask questions about vaccinations undermines democratic ideals and constitutional freedoms the government's decision to remove child's education because the government perceives parents as making a bad decision is backwards if nothing else we as a district should advocate for health protocols that protect our students right to an education regardless of adult decisions be there be they reasonable or unreasonable and there it is [Applause] thank you christy next is deanna povel if i said your last name correctly hello i'm a single mom to twin boys who
attend troy high school and i'm very pro vaccines but i do have concerns with the covid vaccine for children especially my boys who come from a family history of various heart problems we've all heard the potential adverse reaction to the vaccine called myocarditis or inflammation of the heart this adverse reaction is most common with young boys but i also have concerns for our teachers and staff i have two women friends in their 50s both in very good health very pro covered vaccine until they had an adverse reaction their doctors have told them the vaccine has attacked their heart and they both are still struggling with side effects weeks and months later these side effects give me grave concerns with our government mandating kids to take a vaccine with very limited and short-term testing and fda
approval under emergency use authorization the data from our own school district continues to prove week after week very few students teachers or staff are getting covered today we have four students two staff for a total of six coveted cases out of 14 or 0.04 infection rate i'm asking you as parents and our school board members to support and protect our children and teachers by giving parents the choice whether to vaccinate their children and help us keep all our great teachers even the unvaccinated thank you thank you deanna next is jason smith thank you for having me i've seen lots of these on the internet so i feel like a first-time caller long-time listener type of situation i'm a community member um i'm an icu nurse i work in a cardiac icu and i've worked in
an acute care setting for 14 years doesn't make me an expert but it makes me somewhat informed just like all these parents i'm asking you to advocate for us as parents and as our representatives to sway the state legislator to uh not mandate this and if they do i'm asking you to also stand up and represent us and i'm asking you to do so not because of partisan ideals or ideologies but just because the facts are the facts and truth is truth and so here are some of the facts and some of these have been stated but a little bit differently i looked at the california department of health numbers today and as of last week in california there are only 38 deaths of children 17 ages and under every death is tragic but when
it comes to community health and public health policy those are minuscule numbers pneumonia far exceeds the amount of deaths in california in the same amount of time approximating 100 or more rsv the same approximating those numbers we should be more concerned about pneumonia and rsv than we should about covet and we're not mandating the pneumonia vaccine and there is a pneumonia vaccine so kovad comparatively does not seem that high of a risk for children in california the recent pfizer study clearly states that children are not a significant source of spread they're not vectors so not only are they not at risk but they do not spread this disease very much the mmr vaccine was tested for 12 years before it was mandated for children so we have every right to ask that we get more
data to see what these spike proteins are going to do in our bodies over the long term hopefully it's nothing but it might be something these data points are unequivocal they're factual and they're truthful and they give you grounds to stand against the legislator and to try to sway them and that's what i'm asking you to do thank you so much [Applause] thank you jason next is veronica senzanetti good evening thank you for having me i'm grateful for the opportunity to continue presenting to you quotes or the voices from some of the hundreds of entries on the fju hsd community input document noel wells says don't let mandated vaccines be the reason for an ever-growing education cap stand for students you represent and allow them to exercise free choice we don't often have to stand
firm for what we believe to be right but this moment in history is one of those moments for you take a stand and be a voice for the students don't cave to what is wrong just because you fear the consequences now is this time the time to stand firm for the students you represent be their advocate above all else is what you were entrusted to do michael as patia says good evening i would like you to please reconsider the vaccine mandate i am a young male who is in the danger age of side effects heart problems run in my family and i am not comfortable with getting the vaccine honestly it scares me please read about all the side effects and stand up for governor newsom and tell him you will not enforce this on
your students thank you for your time and shirley sherman says please say no to the vaccine mandate it's unnecessary and harmful for our students the future of america chris as pts says please consider refusing a mandate to vaccine vaccinate children thank you elizabeth arbispiel please refuse the mandate we ask that you continue providing education for our amazing students and amazing educators stand with your students families educators and of the community as you have done so our community seeks your support in such a time as this to refuse this harmful mandate thank you and i have three pages more [Applause] thank you veronica next is kimberly long good evening as we continue to face this great decision of our modern time i know i stand with all of these other parents who constantly look at stats
and facts and figures we never expected to do that this year to consider the future of our children's education i've been asking myself questions such as is this still an emergency that we are facing in california are we seeing consistent or alarming numbers of children and teens dying from covid or our rates of contraction and deaths increasing overall in the u.s like they were before i believe the answer is no to all of these questions therefore at this stage i believe the main reason that you as a council are even involved in whether to mandate this flu shot for our children is to protect other adults that they come into contact with because let's be honest as is mentioned before our students are doing quite well fighting this virus with their healthy immune systems and
as mentioned i also do not agree that our children should be used as shields to protect other adults whether they are vulnerable or not and i hope in their situation they can take the vaccine if they desire and that it would work for them to make their side effects less severe but i do not believe that children should be used to shield adults in any situation for me one of the biggest decision challenges in this decision is the rush just the pure rush we asked to be given the gift of time to slow down to be able to study to research and to wait for those long-term studies as was just mentioned i have heard the cases of damage to people's bodies from the covet vaccines that they have received i encourage you to look
at the website called real not rare you will not only hear hundreds of other stories of bodies that have been damaged from the vaccine of all ages but you will hear again the specific testimony of that dear father who spoke about the death of his precious son [Music] my daughter loves school and i hope that you will consider letting her keep her position in school whether she is vaccinated or not and without segregation thank you so much for your time [Applause] thank you kimberly next is brian o'neill evening thanks i'm glad to be here and i'm really thankful for all the community voices and parents you've heard but um president buchi dr mclaughlin and board i want to introduce myself i'm a teacher in the district i teach physics at buena park high school i'm
also a community member i live in fullerton my kids are coming up through the district right now but um dr mclaughlin i haven't had a chance to meet you yet but i really appreciate your preface um of just reason of saying we're listening uh and i hope you guys really are listening but i wanted to speak tonight as a proactive voice because i think that we've seen through the last 18 months that sometimes when decisions get made it's too late to change course and so um i'm concerned honestly i'll be very upfront i am not vaccinated against the covid and i'm concerned for my job security um if you'll indulge a short anecdote i have a friend and neighbor who just lost her job two weeks ago she's a teacher a dedicated career teacher in
la county and she lost her job because she did not comply and so now the district thought that her students would be better off with a vaccinated long-term sub instead of somebody who loved and knew her students so we all know and we've seen that a lot of times things kind of trickle down from la in this direction if we see the writing on the wall i'm asking you board to um to listen but be aware what's coming and i want you to know that i am not vaccinated but i'm an asset to this district i'm not a liability i'm not a threat to our students this is a preemptive request that you the board will continue to support me as i do my best every day to support our students thank you [Applause] thank
you brian next is amanda oakes good evening and thank you for your time i am a mom of three students at sonora high school my husband and i chose to have our three children vaccinated but i am here today to respectfully ask you to give parents the right to choose what is best for their children we've already heard a lot of the data and it is clear we are not dealing with smallpox measles polio these are very risky childhood diseases the cdc says that the flu and covet combined make up in less than one percent of pediatric deaths since the start of the pandemic in march 220 2020. let that sink in less than one percent if this mandate is upheld then not only is medical choice being taken away from parents but we're also
discriminating against a child's education you'll be denying the constitutional right of an equal education opportunity to children whose parents have the right to choose to not vaccinate for something that has caused less than one percent of pediatric deaths since 2020. i am not okay with that i chose to have my students my my children vaccinated i realized that there were potential risks in choosing to have my kids vaccinated i also realized that there are potential risks involved if i had chosen not to have my kids vaccinated but that is the point i was able to make that choice i am asking you to please give parents the right to choose follow the other examples of other districts even near us that are taking a stand on the mandate and expressing to the government how this
mandate is not in the best interest of families and students thank you thank you amanda next is anita axe good evening senator pan of sacramento you may have heard of him is currently encouraging that this mandate quickly be turned into law but interestingly he says the purpose of vaccination laws is not to make everyone vaccinate their kids but to keep schools safe but our schools and our district are safe and consistently have been since we've begun this pandemic our total number of cases in this district has been 216 since we started collecting this information last year and this is in over 14 000 students and teachers we have had no outbreaks we've had no hospitalizations and without question our own data has established that our children are not at risk and they are not a
danger to others so i ask you and you actually may be thinking well we as a board and it has kind of been mentioned that you can't do anything well you can do something because other at least i know of six other nearby school districts including east whittier and capo unified have stood with their students and families and have written resolutions or letters to gavin newsom which you can find on the web they're readily available if not i'll send you copies telling him that this covet vaccine mandate for all students would be detrimental to the academic and emotional well-being of students in our in their district will you do this for us for our community please will you support us by affirming that this medical decision is best left to parents and students thank you
[Applause] thank you anita next is susan correa good evening my name is susan and i'm a district employee when i signed my employment contract i never agreed to be tested for any unforeseen viruses i did not agree to be harassed intimidated to give up my hipaa rights or to be discriminated against by testing us in front of the gym out in the open where anyone can see us is a form of intimidation and a violation of our hipaa rights by testing only the employees who are unvaccinated and those who won't tell you their vac status is discrimination it's bad enough that you are discriminating against your employees but now you are also discriminating against our student athletes i never thought i would be employed by an educational institution that engaged in discrimination i have a
copy of the board's moral and civic values that are on your web page one of your moral values is honesty your definition of honesty is to tell the truth well the truth is that there is plenty of scientific data showing that the vaccinated can catch and spread covert just as easily as the unvaccinated another of your moral values is respect your definition of respect is to treat people equitably justly and fairly and i think i've already covered how that isn't happening so you can continue to harass us to intimidate us to discriminate against us and to violate our hipaa rights you can take away my job my income and my health benefits but you can't take away my first amendment right to choose what i put into my body i won't give you that so
i have a question for you what side of history are you going to be on the side that condones and participates in discrimination or the side that fights against it i know what side i'm on i'm asking you to please join cheeto valley unified and other school districts in california by writing to governor newsom asking him to rescind the vaccine mandates for students and staff thank you for your time [Applause] thank you susan next is amy frizzy did i i said okay where there are risks there must be choice i am a mother i am an educator my children are students in the fullerton school district one in elementary one in junior high future fullerton joint union high school students but they will not be if there is a covid19 vaccine mandate for them to
attend high school additionally we will pull them out of fsd if such mandates are enforced i am not alone we are not alone there are many of us i speak in opposition of the governor's announced phased approach mandate for requiring covet 19 vaccinations for k-12 students to receive an in-person education let us all remember we are still learning more about long-term effects of covid19 vaccines and we still don't have the long-term studies yet parent choice cannot be protected if a mandate is enforced medical religious and personal exemptions are not the same as parent choice they are different true freedom and medical choice does not require an approval of an exemption we cannot rely on the chance that an exemption will be approved or if exemptions will even remain parent choice allows parents to protect their
children board i ask you to set aside your politics the pressures the orders that may be pushing upon you presently and soon you have an incredible opportunity each of you will have a moment to stand up for what you believe is the right thing to do how will you represent the teachers the staffs the parent and children of the fullerton joint union high school district and the ones to come today we ask you for parent choice so will you will you write a letter to the governor opposing these mandates as these districts have all already we are waiting where there are risks there must be choice thank you thank you amy next is randy dana hi i'm not going to say much different than the others but i'll say it anyways i'm a mom of
five one a graduate from high school just last year my children have been homeschooled gone to private school and gone to public school throughout the years my son who currently goes to sonora is really enjoying his classes in sports he hopes to graduate from sonora i also have my teacher's credential i'm a full-time mom and know what it takes to educate my children i'm not an anti-vaxxer as many of these others have said and believe that covid vaccines have a use and application for certain age categories however i strongly believe in my constitutional rights as a us citizen each and every citizen has the right to determine the vex to be vaccinated or not if the if the california school system decides to ignore my right to choose to vaccinate or not you leave me
no choice but to pull my children out of our public schools i implore a year to issue a statement to the state of california citing with the rights of parents and families in your school district letting them know that our district opposes the vaccine mandate because it will harm the operation of our school district and their families please fight for us i personally know many many families that plan to pull their children out of the district if this mandate goes through through i hope and pray it does not come to this our desire is for our children to graduate from your district thank you [Applause] thank you randy next is doug axe good evening and thank you for this opportunity to come before you you people are sitting where you're sitting because you've been recognized
as good leaders and i'm very thankful for your leadership as good leaders you know the importance of listening to the people you're leading people who come under you you also know the importance of respecting those people and sometimes that respect will require you to push back against things that come to you from above in the way of bad policy this is one of those times and i'm confident that you're going to do the right thing i'm going to continue reading some of these comments that were on the public or the community document the two other people have been reading giving the name first and then what they've said lisa fulbright says please be courageous and stand up for the rights of your employees and students in your district and against these medical mandates concerning covenanting
masking and even more importantly against the forced vaccinations meredith hughes says we will not comply with a mandate we will homeschool the data is clear that children are not at risk for this virus meg henning says you need to stand up for personal choice or we will see our district crumble heather huertas says it is not the school board's job or responsibility to decide for the parents or teachers who should get the vaccine each person has a right to choose what is best for themselves and for their families catherine garinger says these kids do not need the vaccine in california less than 50 children have died from covid more have died or been severely hurt by the vaccine as it isn't fully developed yet emergency use and political pressure to approve is not a good
reason to force everyone to get a vaccine eric jenkins says stop medical discrimination manuel valdez says do not enforce the covet vaccine vaccination mandate we have rights as parents and our children have rights as human beings thank you [Applause] thank you doug next i think i'm i think i'm katy peel hello i also have the pleasure of reading some comments that have been compiled by the community lisa lamaska says we would ask the board to partner with us in standing against governor newsom's coercive mandate gail dotson i affirmed the rights of parents to choose whether or not their children should take the covet vaccine and the rights of all individuals to make informed decisions about their own medical care without coercion beth mccoleny please respect the rights of parents and students shoshanna enriquez this is
a government overreach trying to take parents rights and students rights away the choice should always remain with the parents on what their kids are injected with you will lose hundreds of kids and families if you try to enforce this mandate our children are not experiments if you are concerned about funding you will lose millions of dollars when we pull our kids lindsay nash health and medicine are not a one-size-fits-all as parents our number one responsibility is to protect our children we should be able to weigh our costs and benefits associated with the vaccination to determine what is best for our children nicole as pedia please leave the choice of what goes into my child's body up to me marlene halvarsson no mask mandates for in-person learning on campus our children are suffering greatly thank you
mark and debbie loomis please allow us as parents the right to choose what is best for our own children thank you courtney stevens parents voices deserve to be heard saipan janus my body my choice i don't want more of the of my already disappearing freedoms lost jeff agoloff agalossoff please do not mandate the kovud vaccine for students and teachers bernadette amarillo my spouse is the teacher for your district thank you thank you katie next is joanna welsh good evening i am a parent of a 10th grader at fullerton high school he plays he played on the football team and he is now going to be playing basketball i've got an eighth grader at ladera vista and a first grader at rolling hills my days are spent running a preschool in yorba linda and i have
had to personally navigate many of the same challenges that you have to have have had to do over the last couple of years do we close the schools do we open the schools how do we open the school safely and on and on and on um and a lot of our decisions are being dictated by to us from various government departments that are very distanced from children and classrooms and then it's just left to us to do the best to interpret it and follow the laws and serve the children who have been entrusted to us this is a challenge what i want to do is just remind you of that final thought that primarily you have your job is to serve the children and teens who have been entrusted into your care you are the
closest level of elected officials to protect guide and serve our children within the public school system this is why we as parents are coming to you to request your support in fighting a mandated vaccine that is very much still in a trial basis we are now seeing more and more people who are having adverse reactions and once this is put into a body you can't take it back you can't change your mind i am not anti-vaccine only anti-mandate i just want to ask you guys very clearly to do just a couple of things um i want well i guess i want you to understand that there will be a large exodus of students leaving to homeschool or move to other local districts who have um chosen to do that and so that's going to cause
a huge loss of fun so please stand up and fight for us thank [Applause] you thank you john next is ashley avalon hello thank you for letting me speak um i'm no esteemed member of the community or anything but i'm an esteemed member of my family my children are they trust me with everything and i want to be able to be the one to choose whether or not my children are being vaccinated i don't want to be telling them well sorry this is what you have to do because they're making you do it and i don't want to have to tell them that they can't go to school if they choose not to do it my son is a junior he'll be a senior next year i have another one who's a sophomore he'll be
a junior i don't want to take away their senior year i don't want to take away anything from that those memories that you know a lot of the kids who were seniors the past year year and a half two years they didn't they didn't get to experience anything i don't want to have to take the kids out and i don't want to have to force them to choose or have to be told what to do i'm just asking that you take into consideration that it should be our choice as parents and i want you to advocate for us and i want you to advocate for our children and just keep them in mind their safety and everything that you guys are entrusted to do just hear us out and i i thank you [Applause] oh
thank you ashley next is leah wissink good evening i'm grateful for this opportunity to continue presenting to you quotes from some hundreds of entries on the fg fjuhsd community input document erin bedell when the medical community can tell me who is predisposed to having cardiac inflammation and why girls are having menstrual issues post-vaccine plus the kids that could be carrying a recessive autoimmune condition then i will consider the vaccine for my healthy not likely to die from covid teenagers julie stockstill i will pull my kids from the public education system if this is mandated this is about medical freedom and body autonomy everyone has different genetics family history health history and more that are factors for parents to decide what is best for their children we need to hold the line with these laws and
mandates we are on a slippery slope lucinda kalasie we pray you stand with us because we are growing every day g williams people are due individual freedom with their bodies mindy hodgesing this vaccine is too new it hasn't been around for decades and proven to be safe i do not want to experiment on my kids or anyone's kids for that matter their lives matter aaron lombard it is flat out wrong to coerce anyone to take one of these the covid vaccines especially in this case where the vaccinated can still get the virus and transmit the virus like the unvaccinated can i know vaccinated people who still got the virus and i know people who got coveted later got the vaccine and then got coveted a second time these vaccines don't prevent it so it should
not be forced on anyone also we have no long-term data on what will happen to people's health as a result of taking one of these vaccines furthermore the science shows that natural immunity is more robust and longer lasting than the vaccine immunity and she posts a link for that thank you very much [Applause] thank you leah next is christy leach good evening everyone thank you for this opportunity that you've given me to speak in front of you um i read an article on august 30th 2021 and it was announced that the nih is awarding 1.6 million dollars in grants to explore potential links between the covet shot and menstrual challen menstrual changes um i think that's excellent news for all of us that the nih is giving money for research to see why these menstrual
issues issues are happening so i am here asking you to petition the governor to not allow these coveted mandates and in fact i think i would like to take it a step further i think you are all in a position also to ask the governor to put money into research the myocarditis issue is very big amongst the students of this district and you have the ability to ask the governor ask our government why we aren't putting more money into research to find out why these vaccines are causing this injury amongst young men and women i also want to continue presenting to you quotes from some of the hundreds of entries of the fj uhsd community input document with the rest of my time danielle smith says please do the right thing and fight for parents
to choose what's best for their children concerning medical and health issues you have the power to fight back please do so uh jeremy kaufman my kids will not get the vaccine we will move out of state before that happens noelle act says my brother is a fjuhsd student and i deeply desire that he have the opportunity to exercise his right to individual choice i asked the fjuhsd uphold the integrity of the family unit and give the power to make personal health decisions to the families thank you [Applause] thank you christy uh next is andre vlad forgive my pronunciation that was perfect oh thank you good evening panel good evening uh parents um i come to you i stand in front of you because god has entrusted me with two children and as a concerned parent
i come before you when it comes to their health i am very concerned and when it comes to their future my children need to know that i did not stay silent when it comes to their future and their issues of health a respect and a reference for god is a good thing we heard about kovid a respect for a virus that could destroy millions of us was an honorable thing when we were not aware of how contagious how infectious or how deadly the virus was it was our duty to protect ourselves our children and our neighbors i work in healthcare or at least i used to work in the healthcare because just like the previous parent who is concerned about losing his job i lost my job and yesterday might have been the law enforcement
agencies that are losing their jobs and the police officers and firefighters tomorrow maybe the teachers so as a profession and i worked with with primarily the elderly elderly in the radiation oncology center we did things out of respect for a virus we knew almost nothing about we've been given directions by people who didn't seem to know much more we changed everything about our lives as a matter of self preservation first no mask because you could cause a panic then two masks then two masks and a shield then you take a shot then another shot now a booster now enjoy your fifth booster so i come before you guys it's not about our health it's about government funding about government control you realize you've been played and it's no longer about facts and science when people
tell you a lie and ignore facts and stifle and suppress the truth and expect you to believe the lie you can no longer have respect for that cause and that's why i come over here and step by step little by little facts are ignored your rights and your privileges your privacy your health your liberties and your freedom is taken away first those at high risk then it's going to be the the elders then health care providers then responders and so on and now it's our children they're after our children so i come before you i'm passionate and i'm asking you to please fight for us fight for our children fight for for your jobs and fight for freedom thank you [Applause] thank you andre next is patricia garcia do we have any i don't think
there's any others outside okay i guess we lost her next is tom montano thank you for allowing me to speak today first off i want to do a quick thank you to mr eels thank you for all your emails your text messages and all the daily communication you send out about what's going on at your school so we do appreciate it as parents let me pull this up i'm not going to go over everything that i'd written down here because a lot of what i had said is already has been covered by everybody else who has spoken before me but i will ask you this being able to weigh the risks versus the benefits to of oneself is the fundamental freedom of choice that we all are looking for for our kids you guys are
looking for for yourselves and the teachers are for themselves as well so i stand strongly opposed to these vaccines not because i'm against vaccines as a whole but i'm against mandates and i encourage the board to take the courageous stand with us to reject this illegal and freedom-robbing mandate i'm confident the future generations will be grateful if you do stand with us on this topic so thank you very much thank you tom i have four cards here that either say general comment or no comment i guess my question is if these four still fall into the event vaccine mandate arena if not i'll con i'll call you and then you can tell me yes or no uh and if it is the same then we'll go ahead with that the first one is jonathan jenkins
he's outside okay jonathan was it the vaccine uh matt okay thank you thank you good evening mrs bucci and other members of the board my name is jonathan and i am a student at la habra high school and i am so happy to finally be back at the same time i am sad knowing that the mandate that if the mandate is passed i will be going back to distance learning i don't feel safe getting the vaccine because i don't know what it will do to my body i feel it should it should be up to me and my parents to make the decision to get the coveted vaccine or not i love my school and i want to stay there i want to hang out with my friends and continue to play sports so i'm
asking you to stand here with me and say no to this vaccine mandate thank you for your time thank you jonathan next is angie jenkins and oh there you are yes sorry and it was the same category isn't it yes that is correct okay so good evening mrs buchi and the board members and superintendent mr mclaughlin i want to thank you for allowing me to speak tonight never done anything like this before but i'm passionate about the cause and i hope you will be too i was born and raised here in north orange county and have been a parent at the school district for the past eight years the teachers and staff have been friendly helpful and supportive throughout all these years and i will forever be grateful my youngest is a freshman at la
hover high school this year and he couldn't wait to go back to school he missed his friends couldn't wait to participate in sports again and sadly we're being faced with once again him possibly not being able to attend school due to the governor's vaccine mandate this mandate will be detrimental to our kids it will it will affect not only their academics but also their mental health and their social well-being if they're not allowed to have this in-person instruction which they're entitled to please understand that our family is not anti-vaccine however we know however we now know we don't know the long-term side effects and it's not unreasonable to ask that we be allowed to make informative decisions for our family at the beginning of the year my family and i contact are contracted covet i'm
considered to be high risk but my family and i just had mild cold symptoms now we have natural antibodies in may when i first spoke to my doctor about my antibodies results she told me that i had natural immunity i didn't even know that existed with it but i was happy to hear i have since been tested multiple times and as of today ten months later my family and i still have natural antibodies now i know everyone has heard stories but one that touches close to me is my husband's co-worker his friend shared with us that his 12 year old son's friend died of a heart attack just two days after receiving his second covid vaccine and this will not be the last story you hear if we follow through with this mandy our children
are not the government's test subjects we as parents should be making the decision for them not the fda and not the governor we need your help and i ask you to please stand with us and say no to this vaccine mandate thank you for your [Applause] time thank you angie uh next kimber jones same same topic hi i'm kimber jones and i have four daughters that go to la habra high and i have triplets that are freshmen yeah and we've grown up with the district and i love the educators i want to thank everybody for helping us educate our kids you guys are very valuable to us and we want you to know that i have an issue with my family we have vaccination injury in my family and so we are very concerned about
getting the shot i have three family members that have lost hearing have been hospitalized i want the choice to be able to study and get more research to see maybe there's a better option maybe we're allergic to the shot i'm not real sure so that's what i'm here for is to discuss that and you know whether with this religious exemption stuff will there be something like that for those of us that have concerns about health you know with this vaccine injury situation so that's that's pretty much what i wanted to talk about today and again thank you for educating our kids it's important that i appreciate your support i will continue supporting you but i ask that you support our rights for our children thank you so much thank you very much and the last
speaker on this topic is sophia lane hey hello thank you for having me and thank you for all the work that you're doing on behalf of our little ones and i have to say i'm really impressed that i haven't seen you on your phones you've been paying attention appearing to pay attention whatever so thank you for that i think that's super respectful and uh that makes us want to you know give respect back so i appreciate that um a few numbers normally when a vaccine for minors is released it has undergone over a decade of testing and it will have been tested on tens of thousands of children in the case of polio and chickenpox it was over a million children in each that were tested okay this vaccine didn't even exist like about a
year ago we didn't start testing on children having trials on children till late may june we have maybe four months of data the amount of children that were in those tests were 1100 children half of them got the placebo this is not enough data to even release it to the public let alone mandate law you know it's just not okay and let's see here oh the amount of deaths this is cdc numbers the amount of deaths in 22 months during this pandemic of children with covid in the u.s was 94 as of october 94 we have 28 million children in this country so if you take you know you want to get a percentage that's 94 divided by 28 million times 100. that is [Music] 0.00034 percent deaths of children who had covered they didn't
die from covid there's nothing else they might even have had symptoms they died with covet they were in tragic circumstances juvenile diabetes i'll just be juvenile diabetes at the end of cancer treatment that didn't work horrible situations and they were tested and they had coveted it's just not okay i grew up in denmark i was born and raised i'm an american because my father was i was sick of hearing about the second world war when i was a teenager i had up to here i come over here now this is happening i think have you guys not heard of the second world war this is creepy it is so creepy it is creepy how close is this to nazi regime and propaganda the jews were told that they spread typhus that they were rats okay
unvaccinated spread this disease is not true it's propaganda and this is child abuse thank you sophia thank you [Applause] thank you sophia i would like to thank all of you for your thoughtful and respectful comments uh it really is appreciated i know you've heard about other school board meetings and i knew ours would be fine because it's the fullerton union high school district and i appreciate all of you so [Applause] we are going to have a recess now to give you an opportunity if you would like to escape and and get a break anyway thank you very much it will be 10 minutes and next we're in the report section of our meeting and first on the agenda is general which is establishment of december 14th as the annual organizational meeting of the board uh
i'll just read just one little bit about what this is the ed code requires the board to hold an annual organization meeting each year within a prescribed 15-day period the encode further requires that the day and time of the annual organizational meeting shall be selected by the board at its regular meeting held immediately prior to the first day of the 15 day period and to notify the county superintendent of schools of the time and day selected so that is what is before us now to establish um december 14th as our annual organizational meeting is there a motion to establish something i don't have my i moved to approve uh the december meeting is our annual organization meeting okay moved by jordan foley seconded by chester jang any questions about this okay seeing none grace would
you like to make your provisional i approve and the board of trustees please say i or if approved [Applause] guys you guys are really listening any opposed okay the motion passes five to zero okay next is the new basic textbook list revisions addendum number two on here for approval at this meeting uh dr kaufman yes good evening president bushy members of the board and guests this evening for second reading and adoption the textbooks on the attached list are proposed for addition to the basic textbooks list effective for the 2122 school year in accordance with district administrative regulations 67 11.1 the textbooks have been reviewed by teachers members of the appropriate curriculum committee administrative council and the superintendent the proposed additions to the textbooks lists were presented at the october 12 2021 board meeting for first
reading and information and have since been on display in the district education and assessment services offices for review and comments today no comments have been received it is recommended that the basic textbooks on the attach list be adopted for use in the district effective for the 2122 school year and that the titles be added to the approved textbook list thank you very much is there a motion to approve the move by vicky calhoun seconded by lauren klasker any questions on the list okay grace your vote please i have proof thank you and board all in favor please say i i oppose past five to zero okay i've been asked to reverse two and three so we're going to move forward with item number three which is the ethnic studies update and uh dr kaufman there
she is and dr uh president bushy the members of the board i'll open with a a couple comments and one just to our educators who are part here for the presentation um and uh just a general comment around ethnic studies and we'll get a full update but just on behalf of the district a deep appreciation for this team i got to jump in uh this summer as we're starting to explore this process it is a typical process in our school district that we open up a course of study uh that we get our uh our our experts meaning our educators in the room uh to do this investigation and take us through this but um over and above we understand um that this is a very sensitive topic in the world right now uh and
we we enter it with a lot of sensitivity uh and appreciation for this work um and so i just want to thank you on behalf of the board uh our community everybody uh doing this work and getting it together uh we'll hear an update on that process again is typical in the way in which we develop courses and so i'll turn it over to dr kaufman thank you president bushy members of the board and guests this evening district staff will be sharing the current california status on ethnic studies we will examine our why update about where we have been and where we are now as well as the vision for the future last may district staff presented information on the march 20 2021 adopted state board of education model curriculum that was released to assist
districts in developing ethnic study courses during that period ab101 had only passed out of the assembly education committee and it was just a guidance tool with no legislation approval a few months later in september both houses approved ab101 and was moved to the governor's desk last month in october governor newsome signed ab101 this means that effective for the 2526 school year district serving grades 9 through 12 will be mandated required to develop and offer at least one semester course in ethnic studies as high school gra as a high school graduation requirement throughout the state of california to put this into perspective it means that our current fourth graders that is the class of 2030 will be the first group of students who will be required to complete an ethnic studies course for their high school
graduation diploma governor newsome was quoted students deserve to see themselves in their studies and they must understand our nation's full history if we expect them to one day build a more just society next our director of ed services will share information on the process of a new course pilot thank you dr kaufman board policy provides us with the guidelines with which we developed all new courses in the district ethnic studies will be no different even though ab101's passing confirms a hard start date for the course the ethnic studies committee had already been working on a course outline for a pilot course in ethnic studies all the way back in the summer and of course there would be an expectation that the pilot course would eventually fulfill the graduation requirement that's called for an ab-101 like
every other pilot course that we have board policy provides general guidance for their development in each case a proposed new course must number one i have a course outline that details uh the title of the course what grade levels it will be offered to what subject area will fall under the overall expected student outcomes and brief descriptions of the units of study within with also some more specific expected student outcomes secondly it will have a description of the estimated impact that the course may have on existing instructional programs budgets and facilities and thirdly a plan to evaluate the course and objectives and outcomes through the piloting process staff and students engage in learning new content they evaluate the effectiveness of the content in the teaching approach and they utilize that information to adjust instruction eventually
have a class that meets state standards engages students in relevant learning activities and improves their learning skills piloting a course is a learning and exploration process and as such there's no board action required the course isn't being considered for adoption in a pilot program but again like all new proposed courses there are phases in its development and eventual adoption there's three phases phase one is the phase that we're currently in we have created a committee of teachers that represent each district school to begin developing the course outline in the near future the committee will recommend the course to be approved to pilot in the fall of 2022 at that point we move into phase two and the course is presented in administrative council where cabinet members and principals meet to approve the course for pilot
then finally once a ac is given approval the district explores instructional resources with the help of the committee members and provides professional learning to the teachers will be instructing the course again and i know i sound a little bit like a broken record all of these steps in developing the ethnic studies course are the same as what we do for any new proposed course now marvin atkins principal of sonora high school has been leading our little group he's going to begin his portion of the presentation we'll look at the membership of the committee good evening board and thank you mr zamora it's been my esteemed pleasure to work with this group of diverse scholarly professionals our committee is comprised of voluntary representation from every school in the district as you can see thank you guys
for being here tonight we have met a total of five times since this summer i would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all of their hard work and dedication to the process the development of this course that will be so beneficial to our school communities as we move through this process we will include our district teachers on special assignment ptosis to be sure that they provide input to the accessibility of the curriculum to students with ieps 504s english language learners and to ensure the common core standards literacy standards are integrated into the ethnic studies curriculum we began our journey of exploration of ethnic studies we started with the definition that was provided by the state framework according to the framework this course is to study race with regard to often overlooked contributions
sorry all right once we took this broad definition provided by the state we wanted to see how we as a district could apply this definition we took board policy zero 100 which is our core foundation as a district we as a district provide the opportunities to relate positively and constructively with others from various backgrounds for the purpose of increasing our students understanding of individuals of various backgrounds with a celebration of american cultural diversity the committee read all of the public comments that was at our first meeting in july we wanted to be sure that the voices of our community are heard in the development of this course we made it our mission to have guiding principles to ensure this course highlighted the core values of love respect hope solidarity and celebration of community cultural wealth
we wanted ethnic studies for fullerton joint union high school district to have an anchor that will help keep our course grounded and the foundational principles of our community of our stakeholders we believe this course is important to the better understanding of our community around us and for our collective future what is ethnic studies taking all these adjectives and exploration into account what is it what will it look like here at fullerton joint union high school district ethnic studies is different from u.s history where u.s history is a broad survey course of a timeline of events throughout history ethnic studies takes a particular theme or themes and applies them throughout an examination of ethnic groups which compose our great american society so many people have combined critical race theory and ethnic studies these two terms are
not synonymous critical race theory rests on the principles premise that racial bias intentional or not is embedded into u.s laws and institutions ethnic studies for our district will constructively trace the historical journey of ethnic studies that compose our american society our teachers are committed to an examination of the struggle and the celebration of each group's achievements and accomplishments for more information on the timeline of how we derived at these conclusions in a more in-depth thematic look here is mr craig weinrich assistant principal at la habra high school thank you mr atkins beginning with our initial meeting this past summer the committee has worked through a series of meetings to develop the ethnic studies course this progression has moved us from defining a common vision and a common language for the course to developing the major
themes for the course as well as how to approach these themes and then to researching and sharing important factual information on which to base the course outline and subsequent units of study as we continue along this developmental process the committee will work on further developing these units of study while also moving towards planning professional development for the teachers who will be piloting the course mrs sharon holland fullerton union high school teacher and our teacher on special assignment for social science will now give a closer look at the process that the committee has undergone in this process hello i'm honored to be here to present the work that our committee of teachers undertook to create this pilot course i want to acknowledge the committee of teachers and um i really am honored to represent them the
ethnic studies model curriculum from the california department of education suggests four foundational themes around which to organize the ethnic studies course however the framework is also clear that school districts should make the decision that make the most sense for their schools students and community the district ethnic studies committee considered the suggested themes and then used them as a starting point for the themes of our own course the themes um that we decided on were five in total and they are what you see on the slide here cultural historical political social movements and economics the california ethnic studies model curriculum suggests four foundational disciplines of study for the ethnic studies course african-american latino american native american and asian-american and pacific islander the district ethnic studies committee decided to adopt this suggestion straight from the model curriculum
our committee recognizes however that these four culture groups do not cover the many areas of interest that our students may have for that reason the committee decided on an additional final project at the end of the course this project will allow students to focus on an ethnic group or subgroup of their choice in this project students will apply the same themes that they studied in the four foundational ethnic groups to the research project they will create as a culminating activity once the foundational ethnic groups were established our committee divided into teams of two teachers apiece each team focused on researching one particular ethnic group with the goal of establishing what to include in the course for each particular ethnic group as part of this process teachers looked at a variety of resources including college courses
and local community resources after the teacher teams put in hours of research they drafted their ethnic groups section of the course outline the committee reviewed together all four of the drafted course outline sections and committee members also work together to draft the overall course goals and now i return this to mr atkins thank you mrs holland all the places we will go with ethnic studies it is an exciting time as we continue to roll up our sleeves and continue moving forward this committee will work on finalizing the development of our introduction unit and our con research units of this course we are really excited about the research unit because this will give the students research of an ethnic group of their choice thematically as discussed previously each of our campuses will offer the course on
the student registration cards in february 2022 students interest in the course will determine if the course is offered on a school campus and how many sections or classes of the course there will be the committee will then work with our teachers who are teaching the course in the fall of 2022 on the examination of topics in any additional resources throughout this pilot phase we will continue to watch the state as it develops and refines the framework resources timelines and recommended materials we will also have the opportunity opportunity to refine the course prior to it becoming a graduation requirement for the class of twenty thirty this refinement process will allow us to time to learn and explore this really gives us as a district the opportunity to make this course the best that it can be
and it becomes a graduation requirement now dr kaufman back to you thank you as we reach the conclusion of our presentation it's important that we once again thank the members of our committee who have put in many hours time energy researching collaborating and learning during this process this work could not be done without a team and it highlights the various inputs that take place in this type of a process once again thank you and this concludes our presentation and we may answer any questions at this time thank you very much dr kaufman and your team appreciate it uh any board members comments so i just um have one really quick question is it designed to be a semester class or a year-long class i saw a reference to the g and the uc csu but
i wasn't sure what the intention was yes our intent during the pilot process is to run this as a one-year course and the rationale for that is many of our school sites do not offer semester courses so we would not be able to back it up to another course so as we pilot it it'll be a one-year course even though the state requires at minimum a semester thank you any other questions okay grace no okay we do have um one blue card um first of all thank you all for your hard work it's very impressive and dr kaufman is it possible for the board to get copies of your powerpoint i don't think it was in the absolutely thank you very much appreciate that and thank you everyone for your hard work this is something
i know everybody's watching it's another one of those hot topics so to speak and i'm really impressed with the way you're approaching it and the work that you're doing and i know our superintendent has been involved a bit too he told the story about showing up at your first meeting and nobody knew he was the superintendent i said well you could have just hung out there and met a spy for a while i said no no i wouldn't do that but but anyway thank you very much so let me call on the person that wanted to speak and that is denise gehringer hello trustees superintendent mclaughlin i'm denise garringer and i have a student at sonora high school i'm glad to hear there is a committee of district folks who are focusing on developing a
meaningful curriculum for our students to discuss ethnic issues and i feel proud that our own sonora principal mr atkins is the chair of the committee as a parent with a student in this age group i just wanted to hope i have a couple things i want to say i hope that the development of the curriculum takes into account a couple of things one is the student's maturity level and how they relate to processing racial topics so as these topics come up there's going to be some who have very deep experiences and strong emotions so i'd hope that there'd be space for all students to express freely what their thoughts are and none of us come to an um a new learning experience like this that's very uh controversial with everything worked out beforehand so there's
a learning curve the students will experience and as we look at this age group they are just beginning to look outside themselves and see the world from another's point of view so many of these students will need support as they are learning new things that are going to be taught and i just hope that where they are developmentally will be taken into account as these topics are introduced so with this amount of intensity i would like the parents to be included in order to support their students through something like this and so i'm asking for curriculum transparency it's a new curriculum it's got a controversial topic so my request is that parents have a chance to review and provide input before the course is piloted or taught at all so i'm curious if there are
any parent representatives who've joined in or if there are opportunities for parents to be involved thank you thank you very much denise we'll pass on your question to the the committee for response and we do have another um request to speak from anita axe hi again thanks i just had a quick question um i believe it's in chapter two of the california model curriculum that came out it speaks about including the community parents students in developing the resources so if we could maybe at some point get some clarification just because it sounds like the pilot course is going to be run and resources developed as it's being run and then it will be rolled out so i'm just wondering hopefully maybe at a future meeting it can be spoken about how that pilot program is
going to connect to what the california model curriculum stipulates with including parents in developing that and community members and developing those resources that's it thank you it's just a comment dr zeiner's there if you don't mind giving him your name and phone number that way we can our email best way to contact you and then we'll follow up thank you both okay thank you both for your thoughtful comments appreciate it and thank you very much for the committee oh yeah and if you would like to escape you're welcome to do that we'll look the other way nobody we'll call it a recess we'll look the yeah well done yeah yeah thank you so much i can never get people back from recess right not going to do that thank you thank you thank you guys
thank you thank you okay we'll move on to to item 6.2.2 which is the educator effectiveness block grant plan and steve zamora's back at the podium yeah last board meeting i presented to you the sr-3 expenditure plan i'm back again with yet another state-funded grant that was just approved just weeks ago that has another urgent approval timeline associated with it as did esther iii tonight in as short order as i can i'll summarize the educator effectiveness block grant and how the district's planning to use those funds i think it's a good idea to begin with kind of an overview of the plan itself and i'm thinking it's going to show up there good the educator effect in this block grant is one of a series of grants that are part of ab130 as you'll remember
that was passed in june of this year ab-130 and it was confirmed in ab-167 which passed in late september late september uh several the grants that were proposed in ab-130 were revised in a secondary trailerville ab-167 but the educator effectiveness block grant was not one of them so the language is literally the same between both of the bills the purpose of the grant is to provide funds for professional learning for staff members that work directly with students and it includes both certificated as well as classified staff members there we go i've summarized the allowable expenditures in in a minute i'm going to show you the allowable expenditures in just a second but before i do that i wanted to show you um i wanted to speak a little bit to uh some of the things
that are important as far as focus areas the funds can be spent in any amount of the total allocation in any one or more of the 10 allowable expenditure areas what that means is we can spend all the funds in one of those areas or we can spend all of the funds spread across all of those areas except certainly for us it wouldn't include the 10th bullet point that you're about to see because that bullet point is for elementary kids for early childhood education there we go there's the allowable expenditures and you can see the 10 that are there the district is going to be focusing on the top four of those bullet points first of all the top two bullet points coaching and mentoring and programs that lead to effective standards align instruction and
you'll see what we're going to be doing with those funds you've had a chance to look at those as well but for those who want to take a look at the more exacting language you can see that that's a link in the slides and if you want to click on those you can see more detailed language this comes right from the from the law it's funny how these things go sometimes forgive me there's animation so a couple of things about the expenditure plan there's a couple of requirements to go with the expenditure plan for us to be able to receive the funds first of all the the expenditure plan has to be presented at a board meeting a regularly scheduled board meeting and then it has to be adopted at a subsequent board meeting and
you guys have been through this before this is what we do with lcap you know that in june early june we usually present it and then late june we present it for adoption and that's we don't know why they do that sometimes it depends upon the people who are sponsoring and writing the bills and that's what they asked for in this particular case and so that's why the urgency to get it tonight so we can present it to you at the next board meeting we plan one of the things we wanted to do is we established a cadre of ptosis that we've been looking to do for quite a long time and they provide much of the professional development for the various departments and and subject areas that we have in our district we established
those and we extended them to three years with the sr-3 plan what we want to do with the educator effectiveness block grant is actually extend that two more years so we'd have five total years with our ptosis and you know that we just established the mental health specialists position and of course we recognize the need for more mental health and social emotional services for our students and so you can see where that's expended um if you looked at again the plan the plan says we're going to get we could expect to get about 2.4 million dollars and you can see that that would be spent over those two years so that's how they would be applied essentially the plan extends the ptosis for two more years and it extends the mental health specialist for two
more years and the only thing that's left is for board approval and that will be presented to the board as a consent item on december 14th agenda and that's really all there is to the plan i have if you have any questions i'm happy to take those but that's the presentation thank you very much any questions anyone have joanne quick comment i love the idea of extending out so we can really dig in reinforce reteach adapt you know and that really can has the potential to create some systemic change in embedded practices so thank you i think that's a really great idea to apply the money in that way thank you um i was just and i'm going to make a comment about the the mental health specialist are we how many are you talking
are there going to be more on each campus how are we going to work that out yes we have right now i think what we have is we're looking for four total okay um and we're going to have those split between this between the sites each of these individuals is going to have special licensure you'll remember we talked about that a little bit at the sr3 uh plan when we presented that they have specific licensing that allows them to also be able to supervise interns and the cool thing about that is now we'll they'll be able to supervise enough intern so we literally will have somebody on every single campus okay that'd be great thanks any other questions or comments grace and this will come back for consideration in december we'll we'll go ahead and
get you the presentation too so you can access those links thank you just a point uh in case there's anybody still hanging and watching this virtually uh there was reference several times to tosa i don't know that everybody in the world knows what that means we certainly use a lot of acronyms in this world ptosis is teacher on special assignment i'm thankful thank you very much steve okay with that we'll move on and look forward to it coming back to us in december thank you very much okay um so i got when i flipped okay now we're at human resources um and dr atkinson president pushy at the october 12 2021 meeting of the board of trustees six three one zero the calendar for the 2020 2024 school year was submitted for first reading following
that meeting it was shared with our feeder district are also posted on the district website there's you through that process an error was identified specifically to the spring recess the dates were incorrectly listed and that was subsequently corrected the revised board policy 6310 people attendance calendar for 2023-24 being shared tonight for second reading and adoption the the revised calendar is will be posted and shared uh once again with our district stakeholders and it is my recommendation that uh the in its calendar be adopted thank you is there a motion you guys are it's too late for you and seconded by chester jane uh any questions or comments uh grace would you like to vote please i approve thank you and the board all in favor please say aye aye opposed past five to zero thank
