remarks tonight are short as well um just a lot of thanks and one congratulations to mary um i'm sure we'll be talking more about her upcoming retirement um but mary thank you for your service to the district and um i can't wait to say more wonderful things about you at a later date so my thanks are testing ambry cleaning and vaccines i saved vaccines for last um so last time i was on i made a plea um which i i think it's going really well that if everyone all the kids could get tested as frequently as possible um weekly is great it doesn't have to be every day um and it's that has just seeing all the hard work that has gone into that the support um from hsf from the parents the kids who

are willing to do it even though it's a different test um miss tarella this one's gross and that one's grosser um they eighth grade you know they tell you stuff and then they say you know but between the two like the spit thing that's a little better than the nose thing so they're so honest and so cute but they're willing to do it and um so so thank you um the parents who've been standing out in front of the schools and passing them out lynette i think you are maybe an honorary member of our crocker um staff at this point i see you around all the time you don't really see me you're flitting around but um and i know you can't see me right now but thank you for all that you the cracker

people are doing but all the parents that all the schools are doing with this um ambry thanks for everybody filling out that app um and and the people who are monitoring that i just can't imagine the school staff are um at each place and i i know it's administrators but i know it's like it crocker it's chris murphy you know that caught the checking all the people who are on duty checking those apps the kid people following up on if kids out sick and then checking up in the apps tremendous um care around that um the cleaning the janitorial stuff um i i above and beyond um they they look like if you haven't seen them like ghostbusters with their backpack and they go around spraying and they are just um that those people deserve

so much um so much gratitude for what they're doing um and then um lastly a different sort of a plea i know that everybody's doing all that they can but um please please please um if you know people please try to talk up vaccines for educators um and by that i mean staff um and by that i mean including like our custodians who so deserve it um i i can't tell you what it will mean um when we get the first dose it's huge it's like a weight starts to be lifted i haven't had one but it does by the second dose it's feeling like there's the end of this sort of around the corner and then that however waiting period and then it feels like we can go to school and be pretty safe

and that's what we want we want the kids to be back we're grateful they're back but we want to feel safe and so if there is any influence anything um not to put us at the front of the line where we shouldn't be not special treatment i am totally educators throughout san mateo county equity you know the right people at the right time but boy oh boy we need to get educators in san mateo county and throughout california vaccinated so thank you very much thank you mary i i do hope that vaccine comes quickly it's hopefully any week now um 3.2 cse d mori [Music] i've had my first vaccine and i'm really excited about it and we have teachers who've had their first vaccine especially who live in other counties and luanne thank you

so much for passing along all of the information that you do about the potential for getting vaccines and the potential for scheduling vaccines when you hear from nancy mcgee you are the most amazing conduit to the entire staff of all of this great information that we really need and we really appreciate it we also really appreciate the testing as mary said if it wasn't for all of you and it wasn't for the foundation and parents and staff all working together our schools wouldn't be as safe as they feel like they are and it's just remarkable and makes a huge difference so thank you very very much it's it really does make a difference in our ability to teach the kids thank you uh item 3.3 apg lynette kaplas hi everybody thank you for having me

um so my report yes mary i am on campus on crocker campus and it's been it's been great it's you know one of the things um really i just this is not my apg report but i just wanted to share it just reinforces how appreciative i am of every single thing our district has done from this summer all the planning the teachers the administrators everything um it is it's just really incredible what we've accomplished all together and i'm just i'm very very grateful um and so with that gratitude apg just delivered flower arrangements for the hcshcfd cares team those are the parents who are putting together and our reps for each of the school sites for all the kova testing so we delivered um some flowers to them just to say thank you for everything

that they're doing um apg is also um looking ahead to next year and we're getting our slate for the board and i know all the school sites are doing that now hsf is doing that now and you know if this is another thing of when we see all these names and when we're talking about all these positions it's incredible how many parents are involved in our community and are willing to like step up and pitch in and again i'm just our parents we rock it so thank you all to all the volunteers and um one of the things too i love seeing all the social media sites and all the postings of what all of the students are doing at all the different sites um again the parent volunteers are rocking it with these virtual

um events they're keeping with the stem uh um stem fares and they're keeping with the virtual talent shows and there's doing so much and so i'm just really so grateful for everything that's happened this year so that's basically apg the month of february thanks don thanks for your report lynette and thank you for helping out in the classroom that's that's been a great help as well uh 3.4 uh hsf lee rosenstein uh first i'll start by saying congratulations mary and thank you for your years of service um i can imagine you must be looking forward to enjoying some free and spare time so again thank you for your service i'm excited to say that um with hsf we have we've hit the 3.2 mark so we've raised 3.2 million dollars and i want to extend

a huge thank you to everyone who's donated and and thank all the parents and again just like lynette mentioned what amazing community we have um we've been holding our virtual pay-to-plays and those have been so much fun to see people come together um i want to thank principal butte and principal felt and principal mata for giving up their time in the evening after a busy day to read stories to the kids we're so fortunate to have these ladies and these leadership roles and i just want to say thank you and there's still tickets available for a few pay-to-plays the north and west story time as well as a crocker cooking class and italian cooking class so please check those out um also coming up for hsf is our scholar circle appreciation event and that'll be

on february 25th and we are fortunate enough to have uh katie hood who's the founder of one love foundation speaking and she will discuss the importance of healthy relationships and how those relationships impact academic and professional achievement how to talk to our kids about these relationships and what we can do as parents to reinforce on these lessons at home so if this is something that you're interested in and there's still time to join this event by increasing your donation to ten thousand dollars or donating ten thousand dollars and this is again towards um per family not per student um as there is no fund in need this year this is a really great way to increase your donation and support the district and hear a wonderful speaker and get us closer to our goal of

raising 3.6 which is what we promised to the district this year and finally um i just want to acknowledge cynthia foster who is the executive director of hsf and this is her 10th year at the foundation and i think um i personally just wanna say how grateful um i am and minnie and in my group are um for her years of service to hsf and the district and i when i think about all the money she's raised it's just astounding or help to raise so um thank you so much thank you lee and uh congratulations on uh successful fundraising in a very challenging year thank you this is a tough one uh 3.5 superintendent report luanne carlomano thank you trustee getting so i just want to start um by doing a little shout out to

mary maher and there will be more shout outs to come in the future um but having a 40-year career in education it's just incredible so we've been very fortunate to have her in the district for the last last 11 years um but cheers mary i want to say thank you to hsf and our hs uh hcsd cares team uh regarding the testing and just um sharing additional information as dee and mary tarello both did it's been incredible and i see the parents out there helping to you know hand out the test collect the tests it is just an ongoing project and so um they've been doing a fantastic job and you know along with um that testing comes positive cases because we are being i don't no other district is doing this at least in

the county and so um we know we're going to have positive cases and we immediately communicate when that is the case we follow directions from san mateo public health and there are times when we have to close cohorts and it is um i want to recognize the fact that that is difficult for the educator and difficult for the families and we don't make those decisions lightly but we have to make them and so um that is just part of the work that happens when we are so proactive with testing and i just want to thank everybody for their flexibility and along with that comes um this responsibility that we all have to do the right things right not to attend um gatherings not to travel um because everybody's action impacts everyone else so we just

have to be super proactive in that and i just want to thank everybody for doing a really great job um in terms of vaccinations and again mary shared and so did d that it is moving slowly but it is moving um within the county and san mateo county office of education has developed or has signed a partnership with kaiser and sutter health to host vaccination clinics for those educators who work in san mateo county so we are moving forward with that i have told the staff i sent them a communication today i said if you are able to get vaccinated get vaccinated we're going to host these vaccination events but please if something comes your way and is within the regulations to be vaccinated get vaccinated so uh again i'm sharing as much information as

i can to help our educators secure appointments um for areas that are valid for them so for instance alameda county if you live in alameda county and you're an educator you can get vaccinated so proactively communicating it's it's been really helpful i want to share that for this upcoming school year uh we plan on opening in a little bit of a new normal but i want to say the word normal so we anticipate that our educators will be vaccinated we know that when we come back to school in the fall there is a very very high likelihood we will continue to have masks we will continue to have some level of physical distancing that's changing really even as i speak right the california department of public health is regularly putting out information and so um

that will be a part of our new normal when we come back to school but we do anticipate some level of normalcy when we return to our upcoming school year so i just want to thank everybody for really the work and dedication that they put into allowing us to do this right the hard work is going in now as it did last year so that we could open our schools i also just want to take a minute to thank our parents in apg for the incredible food and treats and everything in a safe way they provided during conference week our educators work hard during conference week even if it's via zoom so thank you to our parents for really taking such good care and they're so creative the things that were out there were just

amazing so thank you to our parents on that and um i also want to share that um and i'll put this in my letter which will go home tomorrow because we don't have school on friday but san mateo county health you can actually click on links and you can see what the data is for the county and you can actually see what the vaccination data is for hillsboro so the very good news as of 2-7 so sunday was that um 1900 1937 individuals were vaccinated in hillsborough out of a population of about 11 447 so approximately 17 percent of hillsborough residents have been vaccinated and that is good news for our schools the more folks get vaccinated the safer we are so i'm happy to share that and tracy could you share your screen with

the um assess property values i'm going to talk about that for just a moment okay so you can see um the assessed property values here and you'll notice that the values from this year look substantially different than years past and you will see a dip in those values come january so i wrote to the county assessor um who kindly wrote me back even though i'm sure he has many things on his plate to explain why that was the case and so um article 13 a of the california constitution provides for assessed value of each property to increase by the rate of inflation or 2 percent whichever is smaller so i believe in past years it has been that two percent this year it's 1.01036 and that took place the beginning of january so you see

that drop and that is due to a change in uh the inflation factor and um that would be the same for for any of our uh assessed property values within i'm guessing within the state so i just wanted to do a little shout out to mark church for his quick response to me and helping me understand and joyce as well and joyce is also going joyce chen our cbo is going to a meeting tomorrow and there will be a representative there from the county assessor's office and i'm sure she'll probably learn even more than i have today so um that's where we are thank you so much uh thank you um are there do trustees have any questions or comments for any of the regular reports we've heard tonight do any members of the public

have any questions or comments if you do you can [Music] press the button to raise your virtual hand if you have any questions or comments on the regular reports we've heard tonight seeing none we'll close the regular reports and move on to item four current business we have one item tonight uh 2021 2021 to 2022 academic calendar leilani bell that has never happened to me that was my first time being muted and speaking okay i thought i had zoomed down anyways tracy as thank you dawn and tracy can you please share the calendar with us thank you okay so last month we brought forth our draft calendar and we had everything set in place but there were still a couple areas that we needed to revisit to make sure that we were in alignment with

our neighboring high school district so um after we did that and we noticed that we needed to make just one shift we shared it with our unit members in hta and csea and um we would now like to bring forth the calendar for approval and you can see we left our start date and end date the same we have our professional development days throughout spaced out throughout the school year as well and the week for thanksgiving break are two weeks for winter break and we have a professional development in march attached to a three-day weekend as well and the shift that we made was in march so our spring break we pushed back to the week of march 28th and then everything else you can see is the same same end date of june 10th

and we would like to bring this to the board for approval for next school year and fingers crossed that everything is going to open up normally ah thank you leilani um can i just confirm compared to the calendar we saw last year the only last last month i'm sorry last month the only change is that the spring break um has moved a week correct yes so everything throughout stayed the same and we just aligned our spring break with the high school district trustees any questions or comments for leilani about the calendar uh members of the public any questions or comments about the academic calendar for next year you can raise your hand at this time and seeing none uh i will move that we approve adopt the 2021-22 academic calendar for next year is there

a second all second second by gilbert we'll call vote uh kim olaf hi gilbert y hi greg dennis aye and chen aye don gettis hi uh motion is approved unanimously thank you leilani that's the calendar we now go to item five public hearing for items not on the agenda do any members of the public have any items not on the agenda that they wish to make a comment about you can raise your hand at this time i see no comments we can move on to item six consent agenda do any trustees have any items they wish to pull from the consent agenda yes i do ask that we pull item 6.7 personnel action report from the consent okay 6.7 uh kim um i'd like to pull item 6.6 cracker middle school sipsa okay six six

and six seven uh any other trustees wish to pull any other items see none i move that we approve the consent agenda item six one through six five is there a second oh second second by gilbert um roll call vote kim olaf hi gilbert y hi greg dennis hi anne chen aye and don guettis hi uh 61365 approved unanimously um let's just do it in order so let's go to six six uh kim thank you um i just want to share kudos to principal brady and the crocker site council for your work on the school plan um in our district we often talk about teaching to the whole child and this plan really walks the walk there's a such a well-rounded approach to student achievement it's it's not just academic but social emotional there's leadership

and enrichment and relationships family engagement and community involvement and i specifically loved the goal that included know my name face and story that just ties in beautifully with our diversity equity and inclusion efforts and creating a sense of belonging and celebrating identity so excellent work crocker and while we're on the topic of sipsas last month we approved the school plans for south north and west and i just wanted to take this opportunity to recognize the work that was done and um i read all of them and i just appreciate the focus on mental health and student well-being and the very creative and um thoughtful strategies and action steps towards those goals um and what really stood out in all was how well aligned all of our schools are with consistent goals we're we're all heading

in the same direction and i believe that is um it speaks to the work that matthew linder is doing our principals and our site teams so well done all thank you kim do any other trustees have comments on 6.6 gilbert yeah i'll make a comment uh i think our board of trustees is in a unique position i think most of us have either been on site council i have chaired and have had to guide that process so we have a very deep sense of empathy and time sympathy for the work involved in terms of delivering that so i just want to say thank you to all the parents all the staff members and the principals for working on this i think it's important work and i appreciate how much effort has has gone into it

thank you good point those site councils do seem to have been a training ground for future trustees uh kim would you care to make a motion um i'd like to make a motion to approve the crocker middle school school plan for student achievement is there a second second second by anne uh roll call vote kim gilbert aye craig hi ann aye and don aye um 6.6 passes unanimously thank you kim uh moving on to 6.7 gilbert yes i'd like to make some comments on the announcement of mary's retirement at the end of june and i i would say that recognizing just the subset of mary's accomplishments while in our district will she'll change sorry to interrupt shall we invite mary uh to turn on her video yes i think between mary as well as tracy

i think yeah okay awesome makes a little bit easier hi mary good to see you you're welcome to turn on your mic if you'd like thank you gilbert thank you all right yes uh as mary's professional career spans 40 years as luanne said and she's had many successes and achievements while leading our student service department for the past 11 years our district values community and her department values educating students in what's called the least restrictive environment which is really a guiding principle and special ed and in line with these two values there's several things that she and your apartment have done our student services department and district have reduced the number of students who are being educated outside of our district the district has designed and opened learning centers to serve our students and third

we have increased the number of classrooms where students with learning differences are included and can learn with their grade level peers in addition we have opened an academic program supported aps classroom at west to provide yet another option for our students we are the first district within our county to have earned an award for our role in special olympics unified sports and that's a shout out to both tony takamazi as well as to mary and her team more recently we've hired a district behaviorist to work in collaboration with our team to develop our own behavioral support program and this approach serves our students better build stronger relationships between students and educators and helps us fiscally mary has improved the district process for assessing and teaching our students who are english language learners which has been

a growing population and i know how important this is as i was an english language learner when i started school pre-pandemic i've had coffee with some of our special ed parents i've heard the challenges and struggles they face and whenever i refer parents to mary they are met with an open door a warm heart and a flexible mindset mary has built a team which cares for our students education and the whole child one of my kids benefited from student services while every student has different goals and progress indicators the foundational skills developed at crocker enabled my student to exit an iep before leaving high school mary has built a team which is top notch professionally and cares deeply about every student and family which needs or might need student services on behalf of many students

families and educators who have benefited from mayor's investment in our district i thank mary for her service and wish her every happiness when she retires at the end of the school year i can move with that we approve item 657 after a long time for comments from my colleagues and the public thank you thank you gilbert uh comments from other trustees at this time or mary would you care to say any words yourself sure gilbert thank you thank you for your kind and thoughtful words uh i just i'm gonna miss our district very very much it feels like home away from home to me thank you all for giving me the opportunity to work with this amazing community amazing children staff parents i i love it very much and i'm going to miss this community
