Good afternoon. Welcome. The time is now 4:04 p.m. on February 26, 2026. Welcome to the special meeting of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education. I'm going to take role. Uh, Miss Newell, >> present. >> Dr. Revas, >> present. >> Mr. Melvin, >> here. >> Miss Ggo, >> here. >> Miss Gomez, >> present. Miss Ortiz Franklin >> present. >> Board President Shimmerson >> present. >> Okay. All seven are here. Um the order of operations are we're going to take public comment uh on the single item that is on the agenda today. Then the board will recess into close session. And if there is anything to report, they will come out and report at that time. So there is one item under personnel pursuant to government code section public employment general superintendent of schools.
And we have five folks signed up for public comment. As usual, I'll call on the folks who are in person first and then I'll check on those who are speaking remotely. Juan Magandi, are you here? Juan Mandi, come on down. Mr. Magandi, Mr. Magandi is going to speak in Spanish. So, if you'd like to hear what he's saying in English while he's speaking, please put your hands up and we'll get you these headsets for simultaneous translation. Soon as we're done passing them out, we'll begin. And after Mr. Meandhandi will be Danna Guen. I see you're here already. Okay. Graciastos had gone away from uh the school gossip because I was bored. Something big had to happen, right, for this to happen. Now they're saying that something is going on. Something rotten was cooking and it
smelled terrible here. You're always happy, right? Knowing that here there hasn't been individual responsibility. If you have anything dignified, if this please renounce if this gets any bigger, you don't deserve to represent this district. You don't deserve to speak in name of our students, our parents, or speak in regards to our or for our Latin community. You are hypocrites. you're fake because you always want people to come and clap for you. Everything that is going on is your fault. All of you because all of you voted. All of you knew what was going on. but also with the with corrupt leaders that have been financing and supporting your campaigns and for a lot of activists. This will be open and oh hopefully for the district now will not be against the poor people because poor
people are being discriminated because the best education is given to those that are rich. That is what is going on. We will see what happens down in sooth east center. Those are the worst schools and none of your children will study there. Your children will study there where there's better teachers, better schools and the standards are higher and you are representing us. You are an embarrassment. You should think a bit and stop thinking about the organizations and the businesses and the contracts and start thinking about why you were elected. We weren't elected to come here to be money launderers in order to be able to bring business to other people. There is no there should be no influence in business. We should be doing doing something for the people that still believe in >> again.
I see you're here. Uh come on down. You have two minutes to speak once you begin. Um Miss Bas Okay, she's going to speak in Spanish. So if you'd like, if any new folks came in and you'd like a translation headset, uh please put your hands up and we will get you one. Okay, gracias. >> Good afternoon, members of the board. I am Diana Guenni. I represent 5,600 parents that come to bring signatures for the school security. Today, you will take a decision in regards to the superintendent. But you are responsible for everything that is going on because we have come here to advocate every single time to tell you that there is no transparency that the schools parents are not being told the school budgets federal or state funds. You are always hiding everything.
But now everyone got scared because the FBI came. But or else you wouldn't be doing anything. You wouldn't be making any moves. And hopefully they investigate every single one of you because you are all responsible and you have all made contracts with organizations and don't make any deals with the parents. You are always speaking and saying, "Oh, we will be partners. Oh, we will be supporting the immigrant community." But what are you doing in reality? You use parents and communities that are immigrants because we come here to speak about the necessities of our children and the necessities of the families that are immigrants and you are ignoring us. Now, with everything going on with the superintendent, well, let's hope that it will be a good investigation and that everything might come to light. But you
must inform what is going on, not speculate. Because around there are saying, "Oh, it's because the superintendent is being investigated because he spoke in favor of the immigrants." That is not right. Speak and say the truth. It isn't because of that. It is because here there $18 billion are being moved. $18 billion and wish there is no transparency in the parent committees. You are ignoring us every single time giving us presentations that don't have one single dollar. So right now the parent network has denounced the lack of transparency at all levels of LUSD and at schools at the level of the region as well as here and you don't listen to us. Let's hope that now that FBI is here you start listening and not only using us to say that you are supporting us
and using the money that our children generate in order to have a better academic progress. Thank you. >> Thank you for your time. Uh, Norma Gonzalez, you're listed as speaking remotely, but I do not have you signed in. Are you in the room, Norma Gonzalez? All right. Uh, Maria Duran, I see you're online with us. Please press star six to unmute yourself and you'll have two minutes to speak once you begin. Maria Durano. Hello. We can hear you. >> Hello. Can you hear me? >> Yes. >> I apologize. Good afternoon, members of the board. I am Maria Duran. I am the mother of a student that is special education. I understand that today you will be going into close session in order to speak in regards to things going on with the leadership in the
district. More than that, in regards to any individual voting, we want to take into consideration that the superintendent must take decisions in regards to special education leadership affects IEPs, the stability and personnel and making sure that there is implementation of different individual practices. I would like to speak about something concrete. Many families do not receive any accessible or inclusive educ the significant participation for the parents is a right under the law. In fact, when the policies do not communicate in a proactive way in various languages and in a language that is understandable, you limit the capacity of the families in order to participate in the decisions that affect their children. Today, if you are evaluating leadership, please include in that supervision, clear things that align with special education transparency and reports mechanisms and institutional to
make sure that all special education policies will be accessible for families. being able to bringing account into taking into account the population of students that are most vulnerable. Any decision taken will have to be vulnerable and have to do with effective transparency. Thank you. >> Vote identified solely as Matthew. Matthew is not online. Is there a Matthew in the room who signed up for public comment? >> Okay, that concludes public comment. The time is now 4:13. The board is going to recess directly into close session and if there is anything to report out we will do so um later. Thank you. Good evening. Welcome back. The time is now 7:55 on February 26, 2026. Uh, the board is going to recess close session until tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. Again, the board is going to recess
