Welcome. The time is now 1:36 p.m. on November 17, 2025. This is a special meeting of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education, including uh close session items. Uh Miss Newell >> present. >> Dr. Rivas >> present. >> Mr. Melbourne >> here. >> Miss Grigo. Miss Gonz >> here. Miss Ortiz Franklin >> present. >> Board President >> present. >> Okay, we have a quorum. I will read the purpose and authority for today's meeting, take public comment, and then uh recess into close session. Uh we have one item, conference of labor negotiators, pursuant to government code section 54957.6. The negotiator is Dr. Murphy. The employee organizations are Associated Administrators of Los Angeles, Teamsters 2010, California School Employees Association, Los Angeles County Building and Construction Trades Council, Los Angeles School Police Association, Los Angeles School
Police Management Association, Service Employees International Union, SEIU, Local 99, Teamsters, United Teachers Los Angeles, and District Represented Employees and Contract Management Personnel. There is no general public comment, just public comment to action items. And today we have six speakers listed with one person uh here in person. Uh Brett H, are you here? Brett H. Oh, and Mr. Tokowski, looks like you just signed up. Mr. Tokoski, if Brett H is not here, come on down. You'll have two minutes to speak once you begin. Thank you. It's Monday, so I'll be nice, Mike, but uh gave you 15 minutes back. Glad there's a second meeting Wednesday at 10 o'clock this week. You all know and expect to get the legislative analysts assessment of the revenues in the state of California. That will be out. It'll be the
first shot of the budget season. and that will of course inform the governor as he prepares right now through the end of December to put his state of the state speech together. It's the job of school districts around the state to move hard from now till the writing of that speech to put things in the governor's budget. Nobody knows that better than your superintendent. It's time to get there to make sure that the money is not squirreled into 120 different legislators pockets of ideas, but about local control to school boards to make sure that money flows for instructional goals and for the personnel that you have. So that comes out. Jerry Brown once said to me, David, it's not the January announcement that matters. It's actually from January till May. and it's your job and
he's speaking to the entire California labor federation and to me saying it is your job to push labor partners and district together from January to May to increase the amount of money to work together to get a full cola to get the revenue for your employees to get the revenue for instruction and for programs and finally I want to applaud the debate here today it was very good in terms of the DOSs and the alternative assessment just want to remind you that came up in brief. Father Greg runs a a uh charter school that is not on the dashboard. It's on DOSs. You have many probably over a hundred schools. Nobody knows it better than Dr. Estraa in your continuation, your opportunity, your virtual schools that do not operate on the dashboard. It's important as
it was said by Miss Grigo to have high standards, but it's also, as Mr. Meloy said when you have a school like CIT to be much more thoughtful as many of you were today. Thank you. >> Thank you for your time. All right. Caller concerned parent listed remotely. Uh not in the room. Caller Mariana Cleveland not in the room. Also caller Karina Lopez, you're not online. I don't see you in the room. Caller Marcela Garcia. I do not see you in the room. You are not online. And we have Maria Daisy Ortiz. Please press star six to unmute yourself and you'll have two minutes to speak once you begin. Maria Daisy Ortiz. Maria Daisy Ortiz. I see you're with us. You are unmuted. Please go ahead. >> I see you're unmuted, but we're not hearing
anything. Miss Ortiz. I've asked to unmute. >> Uh, one more chance, please. Miss Daisy Ortiz. Okay, looks like we're having she's not able to unmute herself. That concludes public comment. The time is now 1:41 and we will uh recess into close session. Thank you so much. Welcome back. The time is now 4:28 p.m. on November 17th, 2025.
