ahead sir you have three minutes once you begin Too Tall here uh good morning uh thank you for seeing me um my name is Michael mathangi I work at UH the Virtual Academy I'm a teacher fifth grade um I used to work at 75th Street Elementary School I took the vaccine option and a little about myself I graduated from UCLA sociology I went to Cal State Dominguez I have two master's degrees one in Multicultural education one in school leadership uh I have a family and a child I'm a human being so I'm here today to ask for your help I'm requesting um I'm pleading I'm begging demanding um I got a displacement letter on May 15th because I'm not vaccinated and the thing is I work in the Virtual Academy I work from home and

I had three options to resign or retire get vaccinated and be put on a list or um take a leave of absence I want you to understand I work in the Virtual Academy I work from home and they're asking me to I'm going to be fired if I don't get vaccinated but I work from home um I it's very emotional it's very serious for me it's a it's a tragedy for my family and I and for my co-workers um I'm not just a random number that's why I came today I'm a human being I'm a person I have a child who's six years old I need your help um the issue is that I have seniorities since 2004 I took emergency credential in 2002 so I have 21 years of service credit I have 19

years of seniority and the issue is I understand that schools lose numbers and they have to let go of teachers the issue is is that teachers with less seniority a number of them are keeping their jobs in the Virtual Academy in our group that's being let go are all unvaccinated that is against the law the Ed code bulletins that have come out it's very serious now I'm looking for a job I haven't found one yet two lawsuits to consider there's all these things um so again I'm here I'm asking you I need my job please help me keep my job help my co-workers who have the seniority keep their job um drop the Mandate your partners at UCLA on their website they say that they're dropping it or they have an opt-out program as of

June 30th uh I need your help thank you for your time thank you thank you thank you for your time Mr mithinga okay under tab six uh Personnel superintendent's evaluation Diana Guillen are you here come on up and as Miss Gian comes up I'll note that some of us are going to put on these headsets which provide simultaneous translation for when Ms Guillen is speaking in Spanish if you would like to hear translation simultaneously of what Miss Gian is saying slap these on make sure it's on channel 2 should automatically be set for channel 2 if you're in the audience and once she begins you will hear what she is saying when she is saying it ready yeah when it's English Learners today I want to express superintendent to please do the impossible and and

that I can and if you can please support moves um that progress with bureaucr bureaucracy that goes against families and students if we understand that this board responds to different interests that aren't of the community but you respond to special interests that have to do with the charter schools and the unions and Mr superintendent I hope that you can work and not do it the way the previous superintendent did who never wanted to speak with parents he made policies that were simply about business this is not Miami this is Los Angeles and here unfortunately the people that run this place isn't the community and it isn't what is best for the student it's the unions unfortunately and what defines public interest is whoever is sponsoring these campaigns that affect the board and we hope that

the members listen to The Community of parents that have been here to speak supposedly you're listening to the community and speaks to them but you don't really hear them because when they're here to make decisions it's totally different than what you listen to so we need your support Mr superintendent and also that the parent committees be recognized and transparent I was speaking with one of the chairpersons I will not say this person's name but they were very upset very upset how PCS is going about and manipulating the parent committees because they always want to select the parents they don't want us parents to select each other so I think there is a social and fairness that is existing and that is wanting to be managed when it comes to racism and the the people that

are most poor are the ones that have high needs and are at least listened to thank you and board member Ortiz Franklin are here and so the board is fully formed Dora Vasquez I see you signed up to speak remotely but you are not signed in currently we'll come back to you John S I see her on the line please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak once you begin John S John S if you're there please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak when you begin hello I'm here to talk about how I'm disappointed in the superintendent how he speaks and says that he hears parents voices yet at this adequate protest when one of the parents try to speak to him

about the curriculum he threatened that the police would take that parent I'm also disappointed how the superintendent was calling immigrant parents uneducated which I would like to say is very racist and harmful language used against parents who like to voice their opinion on the curriculum that their children are enrolled into I also want to talk about how everybody's talk about inclusivity inclusivity inclusivity yet this is the same district that forced their own employees who are unvaccinated to be fired or let go many of your former employees over a thousand of them are either unemployed or seeking jobs elsewhere and are collecting EDD or they have to work online which is also ridiculous at this point the whole country is opening up nobody cares about these vaccine mandates booster shots or whatever and yet LAUSD is

falling behind I'm disappointed how the superintendent every single time he has the opportunity to go on TV to speak he goes and speaks he makes time out of his day to go to interview do this and that which is great but when are you going to hear parents and do actions that support parents you say that the parents use their students as their kids as political pawns the only person who's using the students as prompts is the Union and every single time the union goes on strike who suffers parents suffer the students suffer and at the end the unions get the raise for the members teachers staff everybody gets a raise but the education level doesn't go higher it always goes lower the test scores are always lower they never bump up you could give

these teachers 150 000 salary you could give this staff fifty thousand dollar salary and yet the students always suffer they never learn anything better someone is the superintendent going to step up and speak for the parents the parents who enroll their students into LAUSD hoping that they're going to One Day become education themself doctors lawyers members of the community I'm sick and tired of parents forcing the concerns and you keep shoving them that you tip tweeting at them and saying harmful stuff that the parents are uneducated they don't know what they're talking about or they're hateful but when antifa came as a statically protest and assaulted parents not one of you board members said anything and those antifa members were standing by your side I didn't see one of you denounce them or say that

they were hateful or they were spreading um misinformation and attacking parents so superintendent and board members you guys have to step up you just have to step up or you guys have to step down and move on for a parent to come in your place because this is getting ridiculous already we could vote you out don't think we won't there's already three board members over there that your time is coming that someone's going to take your spot so superintendent either step up stand up speak up for parents or sit down and go home thank you for your time uh marquisite Absalon I see you on the line Medici sidet absolone uh see you on the line please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak once you begin hello and

for those that do not know me I am the one that comes with the little hat on so that you can recognize me because sometimes you don't know who is who but first of all uh good morning I want to say that just like I imagined you are 100 know this we are the second largest District in the nation and what is that what does that mean that we have a important habitat in in the education not only for the quantity but because of quality that is given to that diversity of students that we have in all areas in Florida they're taking away their people leaving immigrants are leaving because not even the governor wants them or the mayor and they are living why because they do not feel welcome here however we are Sanctuary

we are a sanctuary state in which we welcome all and when I say all I mean all in schools here in La unified there's Armenian there are black they're Latinos there's white there's Ukrainian there's everything and so you are you know that we are a school district that is large and very important in all things now very quickly if not I don't have enough time parents that I have because I have a lot of parents and you have seen them on TV if you can see they are against there's a lot of protests in many times that you have with things that you have approved why because you let as another colleague said you let others influence you those that pay money so you're in your post but remember that at the end of the

day parents the citizens are the ones that make the difference and everything has a consequence and the other thing I have local surveys that the parents are not in agreement with many of the things that you as members of the board have approved and you cannot blind anybody you cannot go blind then noticing that everything is against of what you have done every single one of the board members I want to say as well that I have not seen any of them not even that they come and visit the schools so that they can promote so that to be where you are sitting now so please come and visit so that you see the deficiencies that exist in Mr Carvalho you know me I have spoken with you I will give you the opportunity to

vindicate yourself and to do the things that that were not done for those before you we are thankful in some ways that you take the time and that you including your time at least the visits to the parent meetings but that you are there constantly that you listen to parent complaints directly and I have said it at the board and I will not get tired of saying it parents they get there why because they want to give you the complaint to the person who has the superiority thank you very much for your time we appreciate it thank you because the schools are not listened Maria Daisy Ortiz I see her on the line Maria Daisy Ortiz please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak once you get begin Maria

Daisy Ortiz por favor good morning everyone my name is Maria Daisy Ortiz and I am here mainly to give a message to the superintendent and to all of you as board members first of all I want to say to all the board members that you contracted or I hired this superintendent and that's why you need to demand from him to make decisions that are assertive and effective and I am talking about the primary promise this is a program that is giving results and that is why I asked the superintendent Mr carvalo that do not cut this program because those that are going to be affected are those that directly are the students the primary promise is working because in grades essential grades from kinder to third grade is where they are being helped in the

science of reading for students more than 50 percent of the students in LAUSD are not reading at grade level in a program that is helping to lower those data is so important that it continues and we cannot make decisions that are just to be done so because I have a position that I can put and take away first of all I want to say that with your two acceleration days we did not see how much it cost what kind of effect it had but we are not dumb please do not insult our intelligence or use our students I don't know if you have an agenda I'm with you that you want our students to fail so that you can provide an opportunity for charter school if that is your agenda I want to tell you

that the parents will organize so that we are able to take you away from that position because that chair does not have glue superintendent superintendents come and go and I ask you please that please think about it and to leave the pro a program primary promise because that is something that is essential for our students if not all of you will be uh will be accomplished to the superintendent have a Personal Agenda that are not students and I ask you Mr Carvalho you spoke last time and you said that you had children so please put be in the parents shoes and make decisions that are effective for our students please do not play with the education of our children I ask everything possible and see impossible so that you can leave this program because this

program is worthwhile that it continues because it is working what you're saying is that the one that you're saying I don't know if it has worked or it will work and because of this each one of you we are looking at you and see that are making the correct decisions and our students are the future because education is the motor behind a nation thank you and have a nice day thank you for your time Mitchell glass I see you're signed up to speak in person Mitchell glass are you here come on up you have three minutes to speak once you begin hello and good morning members of the board my name is Mitchell glass and I'm a rising senior at North Hollywood High School highly gifted magnet as you consider the superintendent's evaluation I'd like

to call attention to an issue which has plagued me my classmates and no doubt many students throughout the school district there are many students at my school who have needed to take a specific math class to fulfill their educational journey in high school a class which would generally come after AP calculus's BC College equivalent multivariable calculus however the class today does not exist at the North Hollywood High School ATM and does not exist in lausd's course catalog I have been told by my teachers and administrators that they have an attempted to make this class real that they have contacted all of the right Personnel for creation of a class and receive no response this is entirely unacceptable there are so many kids throughout the district who need higher level classes that you've been unable to

provide these kids may not know about other places to take these courses and all of them are going to have their potential college prospects hurt by being forcefully held back how is this Equitable for all Title 1 schools North Hollywood High School is a Title 1 schools and these high-level courses are not available superintendent carvarjo I appreciate that you are trying to offer more online college coursework to more students during the school day as you were quoted recently in the article by the 71. with regards to a program you're working on to provide these courses you said that our students really have an opportunity to catapult ahead through meaningful high-level rigorous coursework since our goals align well I hope we will be saving progress in more higher level courses for students we will be following

up with you in writing and expect your response that the multivariable calculus course will be offered at North Hollywood High School HDM in the fall thank you thank you for your time David tokoski I see you're signed up to speak remotely I do not have you on the screen in front of me are you in here somewhere Mr takovski okay we'll go to uh for general public comment uh Maria Luisa Palma I see you around there coming up you have three minutes to speak once you begin good morning board members and superintendent my name is Maria Luisa Palma um that was my kid Mitchell Glass by the way I am here this morning to recap some of the topics I've spoken to you about this past year as a parent of this LAUSD student and

a member of my school's committees and I'm a community participant in District level committees this afternoon at this board meeting you will hear from parents who are advocating to have school police on campus now authentic parents don't have the funding to organize themselves such as you've seen students being brought here by the organization such as students deserve parents have barriers such as their jobs they don't even know how to register themselves to create to provide public comments to you and yet they're out there at the school sites they continue to collect parent signatures not very many are showing up but they speak for other parents now they have other hardships and barriers that keep them from attending here but their wishes are no less valuable and their input is being shared by the parents that

do come here now they will be sharing with you their observations on security and lack of security on the school sites we all know how our perception of the dangers of the world changes the moment once one of us becomes apparent all of us parents want secure schools and we want school police on campus now students deserve in their organization and their kids that they bring here they fill up the auditorium last week they filled up the list to speak on the lcap but they only spoke on the funding for school police so instead of school teaching them about the world about how the system works and Empower them this system has failed them because all they know how to come and talk about here is how they're being victimized by this world they're not

empowered to Take On The World and actually do something with themselves in their lives it's like they don't believe in themselves and are you here to give them those students more power over the will of the parents their parents are not here with them I don't know if their parents know that they're here maybe their parents agree with them but their parents aren't here and they're not advocating for improving education they're not advocating for career development a college prep curriculum for AP courses or anything related to academics they're advocating for mental health supports and removal of the school police from campus why now then they lack respect they try to boo Dr McKenna when he tried to give them some straight honest talk and how is this Equitable for them when you bow to their

demands you are sending them the message that their perception of themselves as victims is valid you embolden their perspective so please listen to authentic parent voices Mr Carvalho you have the power to send the message through the media through your media appearances that parent rights will be respected the parent voices will be respected going forward that parent engagement is a priority to you and to this board please have the Committees the parent committees not just be a rubber stamp at the school site and at the district level because that is what's been happening in practice and I've given you plenty of examples this year thank you for listening thank you for your time Heather Aaron Poundstone are you here in person Heather Aaron Poundstone come on up and you'll have three minutes to speak once

you begin good afternoon good morning my name is Heather Poundstone and I've been a teacher for 25 years and I've been with LAUSD since 2007. you speak about intolerance regularly and Implement District policies to avoid it but you do the very thing you speak against in 2021 I was forced off campus for not getting the coveted vaccine due to my religious convictions since then I have fought off campus for not getting since then I have fought and prayed to keep my job along with hundreds of other teachers and employees nearly 1 000 have been fired or displaced since October 2021 several more were displaced just a few weeks ago and you heard from Michael a few minutes ago there's only around 300 of us left hanging on in the Virtual Academy prevented from going on

campus we are consistently threatened that if enrollment declines we will meet the same fate and lose our jobs we are told to either get the vax or be displaced without pay this is religious intolerance since we have religious exemptions not to get the vaccine there are hundreds of teacher employee vacancies in LAUSD many of which could be filled by the teachers employees you have fired or displaced many more refused to work for this District which requires the vaccine mandate it is time you back down and turn around from this agenda or you will continue to lose teacher student and community support and continue to have all of these vacancies the huge sign-on bonuses that you've offered are not helping most school districts and businesses across the country have lifted the vaccine mandate you need to

do the same you are creating a culture of intolerance and not the tolerance you propose to teach enough is enough and our teachers and children deserve better lift the vaccine mandate now so that LAUSD can be fully staffed thank you thank you for your time Vince ninelli I see you're on the line Vince Minnelli please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak once you begin Vince ninelli Vince Minelli if you're there please press star six to unmute yourself and you'll have three minutes to speak once you begin Vince ninelli I see you're on the line with us just press star six there you go good morning uh superintendo Carvalho and board members I'd like to Echo some of the earlier speakers and ask that you uh change or alter

your vaccine mandate which is clearly failed and is impacting not only the lives of these employees but also your District right you have vacancies that utla has pointed out and you are having difficulty filling them apparently you have fired terminated or placed on unpaid leave hundreds of classified and certificated personnel um let's change this policy your policy makers you can do what's right you see the districts around you don't have this policy you can see that at the local state and federal levels of government they have ended the covid emergency let's stop segregating your employees in a Virtual Academy and not allowing them to go to professional developments not allowing them to professionally grow this policy is silly and shameful McKenna Schmelson you have great sense let's get this policy changed four of you are

up for re-election next year we don't want to have to campaign against you there's no reason why this needs to continue do what is right this is a period of where we celebrate freedom yesterday and the Independence Day coming up liberate your employees let them get back to work and do what they have uh wanted to do their whole lives teach the children of La thank you thank you for your time Juan mangandi I see you're here in the audience Juan magandi come on up you have three minutes to speak once you begin for those wishing to hear what Mr magandi has to say we're going to do simultaneous translation you just put on these headphones and you'll hear in English what Mr magandi is saying in Spanish good morning what a shame that the

superintendent isn't here but let's start a campaign called free Carvalho and we want to do it in Los Angeles free Carvalho it seems that this superintendent is always sequestered by the same interests he has good intentions or he says he wants to do good things but we see two blocks the ones that control the charters which are three people to see how they benefit uh from corporations so they can have more from the budget but the competition is welcome and then the privileged bureaucracy who pays for your campaigns which is basically the mother of all battles utla the head Union that is the leader and everybody follows suit to get the fact that they organize for money we know year after year who is who but it seems like you don't know who the parents

are we're living in a world where ignoring parents is easier because they're Untouchable because they can't be touched in the district because they're big and the parents aren't organized and that we can't do our own march with car horns and all this other thing so that you understand who we are and what you've done for Education this is what you don't understand when your interests are in danger and not doing anything this is what we're seeing today one of the greatest problems are inequality social inequality because our children of Title One the poorest oh study sociology so that you can understand also too all these other things associated with mental health and all the trauma that exists in life that is what their studying and going to college for these are the careers versus your

children or your family members that are Elite that are studying economy because then they can understand about finance and politics but what we have here is sometimes we we hire our own family where everybody takes care of each other and nothing is done for Education this is how we're minimizing education and also Charters are just as culpable for mediocracy and they treat the community the same and you guys are doing such a bad job just like these unions we cannot continue with this farce and today we have a superintendent that gives us a little bit of Hope but let's start this campaign of free Carvalho and please do something for the first time in your lives to that is holds dignity as in quit have a great day Lucy Garcia I see you're on the

line Lucy Garcia please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak once you begin Lucy Garcia hello um can you hear me yes we can please go ahead okay I'm from climate reality project Los Angeles a very good morning to you I want you to lift your eyes to the Horizon the great forests of Canada are burning the Great Barrier Reef is greatly Gravely wounded the poles are melting coastlines are creeping for the first time in civilization's history into cities where hundreds of millions live our Kinder children have seen both the orange Skies of wildfire and the long long gray skies of flooding scientists warnings of decades past have come true today and their warnings for the course that we are still on are yet more severe what does education

mean at this time more than 70 percent of parents want climate education as the Statewide climate ready schools Coalition says in their call to action each generation must prepare the next ones to live in a world they cannot fully imagine but the challenge we face today is Extreme we see changes appearing across civilization solar wind huge batteries new ways to plant Harvest cook insulate bike lanes and Silent cars yet all it is all not near enough we know that the changes must reach at deeper levels there are changes in thought nothing is inevitable anymore not that a college degree sets you up for life not that a home you buy will stand in a viable City when it is paid for but also the Great Hopes no more white over black and brown nor men

over women we Glimpse that neither the police nor Wars really keep us safe and that greed cannot stand triumphantly over the land on the water nor even over each other so what does education mean in these unstable times how do we address the fears that it layers on yes literacy numeracy observation evidence critical thinking compassion yes understanding of the lives of people across differences education can help our children learn to turn learn from and turn away from the evils of the past and take responsibility for the world stand up to changes being imposed on them by our political economy to parse the proper moral response to people fleeing disruption to guide their families through responsible use of material land and water education at this time can be relevant to the crises plan and fully fund

the climate literacy resolution only you can clarify our course on this you have the staff structures the Deep experience setting Frameworks and Milestones requiring effort of our school leaders listening for Best Practices finding how to measure progress by 2030 we must have our emissions so we cannot wait until 2026 or 27 to teach climate in every classroom to engage all towns a climate champion in every school in 2324 is one small step screening of all teachers must be worked out quickly with sufficient next time from mentoring and collaboration as well energetic engagement with those across the state and the nation the whole state of New Jersey who are doing this work offerings and there are people who are offering funding for this work get that climate literacy money thank you very much for your time

we appreciate your time thank you Norma Gonzalez I see you're on the line Norma Gonzalez if you're on the line please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak once you begin Norma Gonzalez Norma Gonzalez please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak okay good morning superintendent and members of the board my name is Norma Gonzalez I'm a mother of four students that assists the LA Unified School District today I'm speaking to you to speak about a vital and important subject in our schools the return of school police in these prior times we have seen how different organizations have manipulated the information regarding school police generating confusion and doubt with students parents and the General Public school police is something that we cannot underestimate

the students need a safe environment free of any type of issues that intervenes with their education and the protection of our youngsters and the safety of their well-being to create this environment of learning unfortunately different organizations have been manipulating the information that has to do with school police presenting it as a negative and unreliable organization and this doesn't just pertain to drugs and safety but they also work in collaboration with the educational staff to establish positive relationships with students it's fundamental that the parents truly understand the importance of this collaboration with school police in the schools their support and participation and an active presence is crucial I insist please parents inform yourselves question the information you receive and find different trustable sources don't let manipulation distort your vision that has to do with school police

school safety is a vital aspect for students well-being and their academic success school police is an important component in their education and a prevention when it comes to drugs and dangerous activity let's not enable manipulation by certain organizations that deviate our understanding of this reality please support the return of school police working together to create a safe learning environment where students can thrive thank you for your attention thank you for your time Dan linahan I see you're on the line Dan Linehan please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak won't you hear me yes we can please go ahead yeah good morning my name is Dan Lenahan I'm here to address the critical need and what's improve the implementation of the climate literacy resolution passed unanimously in February 2022

more than a year ago I'm a climate change specialist author and educator and a member of the climate curriculum committee that initiate and helped pass this resolution as a volunteer I initiated and ran the first climate literacy training for LAUSD teachers with the Monterey Bay Aquarium gave three climate literacy Champion teacher trainings for LAUSD I was behind the video made by Al Gore appraising the adoption of the resolution I hope you got a chance to see it the current implementation of the climate literacy resolution is severely under-resourced under organized under staffed and underfunding considering the rapid worsening of the climate crisis the plan to select 200 climate literacy Champions per year one per school over five years is negligent for example at this rate there are students in high school that will graduate from schools

without a climate literacy champion LAUSD has fouled them so which students and which schools are not important enough those most in need even the 200 climate literacy Champions that have been selected this past year as a whole still have little proficiency incomplete training and insufficient materials for students and only a tiny fraction of students are currently getting any type of climate education ask them look at the data climate literacy Champions cannot get the required support and LASD is still failing to educate the students board please please allocate the funding necessary to properly implement the climate literacy resolution and to get a climate literacy champion in every school not by five years but by this year climate literacy Champions cannot just be figureheads that allow LAUSD to feel good about saying how climate education is reflected

in its strategic plan when the vast majority of students are not being taught a thing what is the plan what are the deadlines Milestones when are all students finally going to receive climate education the atmospheric Rivers devastated California that's why President Biden visited us fires from Canada just choked New York City and the East Coast Georgia lost 90 percent of its Peach crop due to severe weather these economic health and societal disasters are just a fraction of what's Happening climate change is making things worse and more frequent and as Government will have to spend more and more money addressing it other services will suffer is irresponsible to think that education will be immune to this LASD has an obligation to educated students now not when it's too late properly fund climate literacy get fully dedicated

staff students deserve it thank you very much for your time and continued support thank you for your time veronis Miron I see you're on the line vernice Miron please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak once you begin good morning board members and superintendent my name is Berenice and I am a parent of a student attending LAUSD I'm calling today to bring to your attention concerns over the programs available for students with disabilities last week you voted on special education but on a special education budget and I noticed that there was there wasn't significant investments in special education programs most notably with esy I am saddened to see that no significant Investments are being made to help students with disabilities recover from the learning law I understand that tutoring

has been made available but perhaps you all need to be aware that these programs may not be accessible for all students I'll give you my own example my in May my childhood and I his annual IEP meeting was held and when we discussed esy the team determined that my son was not eligible not because there wasn't any need but rather because the program was not appropriate for him since he is a student in general education so in a time when the district has received record funding for students with disabilities why haven't these programs expanded to support more students Additionally the district wants to tackle disparity and Equity issues however have you all thought about what low-income students like my child are that are not eligible for esy because the one-size-fits one size fits-all program is

not appropriate what they will be doing for summer school I respectfully ask that you all look into the division of special education programs and that you invest in students with disabilities and the programs that they need in order to be success successful in our education thank you for your time thank you for your time Michael paolucci you signed up to speak in person the Michael paolucci are you here I do not see you online so we will come back to you I will call the name again later Isabel Aguirre I see you're on the line is please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak once you begin eastabel Aguirre buenos dias good morning my name is good morning to the poor members superintendent Carvalho and the entire staff that

attends the board meeting my name is isabelagire and I am a mother of two students in District Two my comment is about the proposal introduced by Miss Jackie Goldberg and miss rossiotia about the policies and practices related to Proposition 39 as a low-income family we do not want to be required to enroll our children in local schools we want to have the option to be able to send them to schools where we feel comfortable and to that meet the needs of our families this is my third year at a charter school and I uh I'm so happy that I did it now because the progress of my student has been significant and we feel very satisfied with it as a parent I feel welcome and I feel part of the school and I would like

to continue to have that option about the requirement for the vaccine for personnel I think that it's time that the district updates their mandate and allow for employees to go back to their jobs because you talk about that the district has vacancies and there's not enough Personnel to cover and to give classes to the students so I think that it is time to talk about this mandate and that the district allows for employees to go back to their jobs to cover the vacancies that are available the students are being negatively impacted due to lack of personnel and we hope that for August our schools are able to be with the entire Personnel that is needed so that they can meet the needs of our students thank you so much for your time and have a

nice day thank you for your time Sunny Lloyd I see you're on the line Sunny Lloyd please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak once you begin Sunny Lloyd hello can folks hear me yes we can please go ahead okay thank you my name is Sonny Lloyd I'm a 20-year social studies teacher in LAUSD and a member of California Educators for medical freedom we are a group of LAUSD teachers and Educators from around California fighting to preserve the human rights uh medical choice so I'm calling to ask that you repeal your vaccine mandate your Covenant vaccine mandate and offer it as a recommendation as you do with uh masking now and and also with with the students it's the same policy voluntary policy for the students um and I

have three three main points I want to speak to number one bodily autonomy is a human right recognized in international law in in U.S law as well we celebrated Juneteenth yesterday holiday liberating the bodies of four million enslaved Africans in this country who does not have any right over their bodies and that was a terrible time in in U.S history we recognize but one is not free unless they control their own body and that's a lesson that this board I need needs to take take a heart in and recognize um by repealing this mandate you know the human beings are fallible including scientists and politicians there is no such thing as a perfect medication turn on your TV and see any advertisement and they'll have all the disclaimers there for you this causes this and

that and the other thing uh most social democracies around this world did not mandate the vaccine because precisely because there were side effects and we know there is a growing list now this is a novel medication there's a growing list of side effects now including tetanus the ear ringing myocarditis pericarditis both forms of heart inflammation this is new information coming out and lastly you have discriminated against people for their religious belief and for their medical conditions we know there's people who took the first dose and could not take the second one and lost their jobs and there's people who are also allergic and lost their jobs anyway or took it under coercion and went through the um the side effects I had a friend who lost her cycle so I'm calling just to ask that

you reconsider know everything that we know now we see people are dropping the mandates around the world around the country and it's time to LAUSD come in line with federal state and local institutions and um you know be true to to your commitment to the Constitution and to Human Rights and and into Choice Medical Choice thank you very much for your time thank you that's something you should support okay Charlie Wilkin I see you're on the line Charlie Wilkin please press star six to unmute yourself and you have three minutes to speak once you begin Charlie Wilkin uh happy summer solstice week board members and District staff I am a retired LAUSD teacher and have worked with the LA climate reality project and LAUSD for the past two and a half years to try and

Implement more climate literacy curriculum at every grade level and in every subject I'm hoping we can implement the climate literacy resolution past over 16 months ago I'm happy that LAUSD now has 200 plus climate Champions who are being trained how to do this type of work at their school sites they also have a nice New climate literacy web space unfortunately the district has not provided a budget to get this work done in a more serious way progress has been slow due to a lack of infrastructure dedicated to getting this work done this means District climate leaders are only planning to add 200 more climate champions for next year we really don't have time to waste on the implementation of bringing in new climate Champions excellent new curriculum models are here now the board should identify

climate literacy as a targeted academic effort and give it a budget that would allow paying to manage train and compensate those involved the district needs to work with harder with schools to prepare and to teach about the effects of climate change on Los Angeles communities and the world how can we all work together to address the more severe existential threat to the Earth yet how can students and their families be part of the future solutions to these problems that climate literacy curriculum is not available to them it is time to move past the model of giving existing employees more jobs to do to do this type of work we need we need a vibrant new infrastructure that interfaces on a regular basis with Community Greening organizations that want to help transform LAUSD LAUSD needs to

build new strong relationships with all our City's Community Partners to develop new programs internships mentorships and career pathways because LAUSD does not have a dedicated budget for climate literacy we're missing some great opportunities one example is the 10 strands climate generation offering of a new professional development on climate Justice curriculum designed for California teachers on this coming July 17 through 19th and strand climate generation have been working over a year on integrating these climate Justice ideas into California curriculum with a climate literacy budget LAUSD could send 100 social studies teachers to this year's climate generation summer Institute we're completely missing out on this we would need infrastructure and a budget to make things like this happen please fund a budget now to make climate literacy a targeted academic effort for next year thank you very

much for your time we appreciate your time sir a c someone signed up as AC to call in I see you are not on the line AC you are not on the line Chelsea Duffer Dunbar I see you're on the line Chelsea Duffer Dunbar please press star six to unmute yourself and you'll have three minutes to speak once you begin Chelsea Duffer Dunbar good morning superintendent and school board members and thank you for your time I have been with the district for six years serving as both a school-based PSW in Wilmington and currently at the Christ counseling and support BSW last week it was discussed that interns would be sufficient for PSW vacancies and I wanted to make it clear that without the ccns team there would be no interim program the ccns team provides

all of the evidence-based practice intervention trainings to the interns for them to implement at their school sites and the mental health consultants provide training and crisis response I personally provide quality assurance of documentation for our interns which is required by the Department of Mental Health for reimbursement superintendent Carvalho I met you when you came to our intern orientation in the fall to speak to our interns our ccns team organized every aspect of that event without our team the 76 interns we had this past year would have completed their internship untrained and unsupported and there were not not be a pipeline from internship to school mental health Workforce in regards to recruitment this past school year rccns team paper screened 146 PSW applicants and onboarded 113 new school-based psws when I began working as a PSW

there was no structured onboarding or ccns support it was stressful and overwhelming the development of the ccns team created a well-oiled machine to provide onboarding and ongoing support to ensure that we can retain psws and our students receive the utmost care I understand there's a concern about available talent to fill vacancies at school sites but in reality without these supportive teams you will see high burnout High turnover and further Talent leaving our schools for nearby districts that offer better support and opportunities for professional growth according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2019 there were more than 78 000 social workers employed in the state we have multiple ways to meet employment requirements for both licensed and online applicants the talent is there but without the support we will never fail these vacancies lastly board

member Ortiz asked about opportunities to consult with colleagues and I wanted to reiterate that consultation is not a sufficient replacement for clinical supervision according to the Board of Behavioral Sciences this school year rccns team provided over 3 500 hours of clinical supervision to 266 unlicensed psws quality assurance for 461 psws and supervision to 46 psws earning their PBS credential I hope for the sake of our school communities you seize this opportunity of developing the strongest School mental health program in the country by maintaining this infrastructure of support thank you thank you for your time Gilbert Gill are you here in the audience Gilbert Gill he signed up to speak in person Gilbert Gill I note that you're not online and none of the folks who were not here when I initially called them have showed
