CDC suicide is the third leading cause of death and younger people which is average to about 4 400 deaths a year for one for everyone suicide and young people there are at least 100 attempts and over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide bully victims are also between two to nine times more likely to consider suicide according to the study from Yale University the point is that bullying can be a cause but also that suicide shouldn't be overlooking schools while yes Suicide Prevention month is only in September we must acknowledge it at all times in the year our club's goal is to ensure kindness around her school and we will be using this to start a startup and do certain activities we plan on doing the activities be it an activity that another
school did in our district I think it was the adult school they did it earlier this month um they were handing out uh these boxes uh the organization that does this is called find your anchor and basically it's just a box and inside is just click the Box reasons to live and there's a little wristband some stickers and there's also there's also a little paper that resources and the butter and I give yourself to stay strong um we were planning to invite this organization to Alhambra and basically what they do is they would give us a bunch of these boxes and they're free there are graphs Grassroots yeah Grassroots organization and basically we would just have these around campus so that anyone who needs it they could just grab it take it home or just
take anything that they need from inside the Box our goals for this year is to make sure students feel safe at our school and to feel like they belong and that there's always a safe outlet and a safe way for them to report stuff plan on doing fundraisers to donate to organizations and we plan on having someone to carry out our club even when we are gone thank you for your time does anyone have any questions thank you I actually just have a comment um thank you for doing this it takes a very special type of person to reach out to others and to be able to identify people that are in distress what you're doing is a very important role I actually have a cousin who took his life during coven so it hits

all right look sounds like a ton of fun um thank you for that we have item 11 is employee organization reports if you have any none comments from the PTA any PTA Representatives this evening 13 is correspondence do we have correspondence we have um one letter one piece of correspondence from the counter Costa County Office of Education in regards to our lcap and adopted budget that was presented and approved by the board in June and based upon their review the 2324 lcap is approved as well as the 2324 adopted budget right great thank you we'll keep with you with staff reports and you're up first okay so um tonight I want to report on a professional development um experience from the Martinez Junior High School so two weeks ago about two weeks ago a team
from the junior high attended a two-day workshop on changing student behaviors this Workshop focused on transforming traditional consequences into Frameworks that intentionally work to change student Behavior while maintaining the structure of traditional consequences in the past 38 plus years that I have worked in an educational setting I have seen practices that involve both in and out of school suspension work detail restorative justice lunch after school detentions Friday and Wednesday schools and much much more depending on the year and the administration as most approaches to behavior exhibit some good qualities any singular initiative is inherently flawed there isn't one Behavior program or approach that will address all the behavior challenges in schools today this training was designated to help teams understand how Behavior changes and how they can creatively encourage positive changes in Behavior instead of
relying solely on traditional consequences such as suspension this training focused on how to change traditional consequences into more productive and supportive environments that create the conditions necessary for changing Behavior they learn that it's unrealistic and counterproductive to remove traditional consequences such as in-school suspensions and forms of detentions from schools as the issue isn't whether these types of consequences should exist but rather how to make them more effective when they are necessary as we do know that when a student's behavior is jeopardizing the Integrity of a learning environment they need to be temporal temporarily removed from it so the team has met a couple of times since the workshop to develop a plan to improve the climate of mjhs by providing interventions that focus on changing student Behavior the mjhs Kerry Cusack sitting right back there
plans to send a second team of teachers with an administrator to a similar session which incorporates some of the PBIS structures of teaching appropriate behaviors to Sacramento in November I'm truly looking forward to seeing Martinez junior high grow in this positive direction thank you for your attendance and and the time for the team to attend the first session all right thank you that sounds great I'm looking forward to updates on that and we are on to 14.2 this is Williams monitoring presented by Amy Espinoza good evening board members and superintendent Rossi tonight I am going to present about our Williams visit that took place at Martinez Junior High School um our visit took uh was two parts the first was our facility visit in July on the 18th overall our facility rankings were 90.31 which
fell into the good range I did want to share the ranges with you good is the highest you can get so don't look for excellent so good is excellent okay so we did fall into that range it's a 90 to 100 percent is good and for the fair range is 79 to 89 and then poor is below 79 you'll see that we had one area overall that fell in the poor range but then looking at our average scores our overall facilities was within the good range so as we could say excellent and then our second visit took place on August 28th this is where a team from the county came to look at our textbooks and look at our facility again we had our uniform complaint policies where with in compliance we were sufficient in
all areas for instructional materials as well and um there were a few other things they look at they also look at some documentation so I had to turn in documentation around technology as well as they looked at our sarc so our school a report card and I did want to share I'd be remiss not to share what the team said since principal Cusack is here and I do want to thank her for her partnership through this process but the team did share principal kuzak was very helpful extremely well organized all materials available to students Williams notices posted beautiful campus students all in classes and engage friendly staff and so that's my report well I guess that's excellent even though they say sufficient thank God it sounds pretty good yeah sufficient also means excellent and this
is there any questions on that are you able to just give us like a real brief what what is a Williams visit and also I I'm I'm pleased to see we have a lot of good and fair restrooms and fountains are important and when you got a poor ranking on that I know that we don't you know unfortunately our last Bond measure didn't pass so there's maybe not a lot we can do about it but is there why was that ranking received and what what are maybe some things we could do so our Williams visit is to ensure that we have an equitable environment for our students across they look at multiple schools across the state and ensure that we have textbooks as well as facilities that are in working order and so thinking about
the question around poor in our ranking for restrooms and fountains even though we were good overall we we didn't necessarily have to do any remedies at that point because we had ranked good with our overall I did reach out to the county and ask them for specifics on what a why we were in the poor so that we can work on that this school year before our next um through thank you and I have yet to receive that answer from them so I can't give you specifics but I can share that um with superintendent Rossi when I do so that she can put down her board update and let you guys know great if I may I can talk about it just a little bit um so when the group comes in they are they
are identifying different areas on their report which they provide to maintenance so Joe and I have um the specific issues that need to be addressed those go into our work order system and our staff is currently working on getting those all fixed a few of the items were leaky faucets so nothing that was safety or hazardous but if it's dripping a little bit of water then we got to go through and fix that faucet I think there were several of those that were that case Hey Joe why don't you come up to the podium that way everybody can hear you and then we'll start over again with what you said that way that everybody who's listening at home can hear it you don't hear me this one yeah so um the restrooms had uh had
some minor issues that got us into the poor zones so some bad lighting we have we have light fixtures in order to replace we have some loose toilet seats a broken toilet seat so those things are in progress right now actually working on that getting that stuff taken care so um we're feeling pretty good I think it should be noted that this is an old campus they're old restrooms you know some of the other restrooms that are being matched around the District or around the state of probably newer campuses or could be so but you know we've we're pretty proud of that old campus yeah everybody we're keeping up pretty well I think understood thank you well if there are there any other questions I I just wanted to clarify so there was nothing um
their soap dispensers are working and there's soap and everything in the restrooms yeah okay great it's an ongoing process the soap dispensers and paper towel dispensers right because they get torn off unfortunately I know right so it's it could be it could be good one week in the next week it's it's it's an ongoing process for maintenance I think Mike my question is I guess going to be a segue to the next item of any where any of these items addressed in the in the summer projects um some of the stuff that's yeah in fact we had restrooms and we'll talk about it yeah so uh we'll answer any other questions so that you don't steal this thunder in that presentation because it's going to be sufficient which we've all learned is synonym for excellent
all right well then I guess thank you Amy and we will keep you right there for item 14.3 which is a summer project update presented by Andy Cannon and Joe schoenstein well I I guess I'll formally introduce them this is Joe schoenstein he is the director and of uh of bonds our bond coordinator and he does all of our maintenance work leads a team of some really great staff we had an extremely productive summer and we wanted to share with you what those projects look like and give you notice of their completion and with that this is Joe schoenstein great good evening board members and superintendent Rossi so we can start off with the high school Alhambra high so this past summer we finished quite a few projects so starting off with this this picture
here shows the sub brain it's Subterranean drain for the slope to the west of the tennis courts at the high school to help keep moisture from pushing up out of that we've got cracks in the tennis courts and the moisture pushes up and and does damage and makes the track or the the tennis court so that you can't really play safely on them so we've gone back and put this drain in and we've done some patching on the tennis courts now so that we can start using them again next we recoded we do this every year we coat the gym floor so that's kind of fresh new code for the season next is scoreboard installation so um Joe angler over here has been taking care of getting all new scoreboard so we have scoreboards now
in the gym at the high school the gym softball field and football field thank you for just finishing up the football field today okay um tennis courts there's some pictures of the tennis court repairs the cracks um and I'll just speak about the coloring in case someone wonders uh if you see there are three different shades of blue all right the lightest shade has been there the longest that is the original surface when it was last redone the kind of less faded shade is repairs that we did less than a year ago and then the bright blue is the current ones and what you'll notice is there's really not much we can do about the Sun and how it fades out that unless we choose a different color so some of you may say well
why didn't we do the whole surface we needed to make sure that this was playable and usable for our folks but we did not necessarily put in the cost to redo the whole facility because when we look forward down through our facility use we are we are going to be talking about what do we do with the whole tennis court facility area and also the upper track area as part of our facility master plan that we had and obviously we'll we'll say it over and over again we do wish that we would have passed the bond measure to be able to take care of this and start working on it now but without that we have to start looking at our small amount of funds and how we are are going to administer them so
it does look a little abstract but the focus was making sure that we took care of those cracks and making it safe so they can plan it right away so that's that was the focus next we had we put new was getting dark in the evenings around the gym and so we put new lighting new LED lighting and areas around the gym roof restoration was big at the high school this year so we did building d The Commons the shop and the full equipment room so we've got quite a bit of Coatings done this this summer a maintenance I always like to say that the out of sight out of mind things are the equipment on the roof in the roofs and they're very important to keep the shell building intact and so that's very
important and we're keeping up with that right now I'd like to add that nobody did anything crazy to get these pictures so there's no one on a ladder or a lift anywhere no no it was not we deny that Joseph gangler brought his uh his drone his uh toy and he was able to go and take several of these shots for us so I thought it was a really nice addition that he was willing to do that why am I not surprised you have a drone them the toy for Joe so this next picture is uh we've got we've added new security cameras to the high school well that's that was awesome last year and just let you know this is not the extent of all the cameras um these are the new camera views
that we put in here you'll notice the quad picture on the right we tried to set it up in such a way that it mimics what we see right at the main administration building so it is a 360 camera view with four cameras so you can see the walkway as you come up from the front where visitors would park you're going to see left to the attendance area the back window and the vp's offices you're going to see the counseling office and you're going to see the back walkway that goes up to the hill into the back fields on the left you're going to see our updated Commons cameras so this gets a better picture you can see at the top is the area that Joe and his team worked on to add new cafeteria
tables they took out those lockers and it looks remarkably better there and give that extra seating piece and then down below is is what you normally see in the car comments but now we have greater access in their Envision to be able to support you know different activities that are going on there and maintain safety for our kids you know what you know what we missed we missed a new uh wheelchair lift in the comments that's that's my fault I'm sorry but we We There Was An Old um abandoned not used wheelchair lift that was in the Commons for a long time and you know we were able to get around that by using the elevator out by the library for the people that needed it to get up and down on the planet didn't
replace that they're shooting so that that's that's a new addition um Heist Junior High okay now there I'm in a really tall ladder no that's that's just wrong um so there's a new roof of restoration for building a that we did this past summer at the tune rally this gym floor got a complete restoration we had leaks and doors and windows we hope that we've got those under control now and this floor got stripped all the way to the Bare Bones down to the raw wood and we've built back up that was a forty seven thousand dollar store right there but it's beautiful now yeah I don't know if you remember it but it was mostly yellowish Brown so if you look at the bleachers the flow was pretty much that same color and it's
amazing um it does cost but it's amazing what that extensive amount of work to get back to that base wood level what it can look like because that is a very old Gem and it looks absolutely gorgeous in my opinion and I think it's it's a push and a statement for the continuance of funding facility projects because that is what our families and our kids and our community that rent that space because it is a very popular space for rentals that they get to take advantage of that [Music] um here can I ask a quick question sorry what's the um the lifespan of the of the okay so every year we coat each gym floor and that's what we just did at the high school but about every is it 10 years eight to eight
to ten years we've got to go down all the way down and come back up again like we did the junior high so the difference in cost is like about eight thousand dollars as opposed to forty seven thousand dollars thank you but it's it's got to be done to keep those Folks up this is the great new look in front of the junior high school so we did asphalt repairs in the main parking lot where we had failed to Asphalt we had to dig it out and put in all new basketball all the way down to the subgrade um you get seal coat and paint it we striped um and we can go on we did that on the track we had some repairs down on the track as well as replacing the long jump
that's what we paved now yeah yeah and I don't and it says long jump repaved um misnomer it was paved with dirt and so now it's actually got an asphalt um pavement dug it out uh it was in it was in quite bad bad shape when Joe and his team got there and so they were able to clean out the pit clean up things on the side and then once that's paved now we have a more viable option for our kids when they're doing um track events and learning how to how to participate in that and is there any update on the reimbursement for the the storm damage repair work uh yeah we're still working on that um and that's not listed here and we're looking the last meeting we had today is they're thinking
that they're going to be 100 reimbursement and that will end up being about about shade under 200 000 depending on contingencies and that includes the additional step of doing the sheet pilot that's going to secure that up for forever hopefully so we're making good progress with that so the first phase of it's done where we actually took the old the tree that fell and washed into the creek out and then we put all the big 10-ton Rock Riff Raff and rebuilt the slope of that and now we're going to try to protect it with the cheek pumps and keep it from improving and track them creeping in the creek but that's coming up um repainting the interior walls of I'm happy to see this done and those walls were blotchy they didn't so the building
a the admin building the stairwells and upstairs and downstairs walls are half fresh put a paint on them though um staff restroom floor outside of the admin office and in the bathroom floors in a multi-purpose room purpose room we're both replaced this summer as well and well needed um and then building D the grout repair building D is the building that is closer closest to us coming off the slope and it's had movement through the years and so we went around and routed and masked it around the gaps between the foundation between the walkway and the foundation on the whole building this summer to clean that up um that's about it any questions [Music] one of the questions I had was um how did we deal on budget versus actual costs on these improvements well
we knew what the cost was before we went through the project so when we went through this we looked early on in the springs we got all our quotes we went through our Kafka process with Lynette um the assistant for the program and we were able to put those together so I don't have a we didn't have any overages what we got for the quotes is what we spent on these projects So within that a little bit more right now we're working on 2024 projects that we want to do and prioritizing those and then we're going to be you know some of the stuff will have to defer I mean we can't do everything with the monies that we have but we'll do we'll do it we'll sit down and prioritize once we get all
the numbers put together so that big process is happening now for next year do we have a total amount that we spent on summer projects that should be on that chart for item here but I don't have the total amount why don't you just go through the numbers real quick yep so the grout repair on building D at the junior high was twenty thousand six twenty eight bathroom floors at the junior high that we we get are thirty two thousand the painting of the stairwells and the building a corridors was fifteen thousand um all the asphalt repairs were 52 000 and then the striping and the long jump and track repairs were thirty two thousand forty seven thousand for the gym as we talked about the roof on building a was 245 000. um High
School the cameras were seventeen thousand five hundred the roof Restorations there were 8 820 000. spent the LED lighting on the gym was 4000. repair tennis courts fourteen thousand five scoreboards were respectively 44 44. 450 15 8 and 37-7 for the football softball and gym but a nice ad uh refinishing the floor at the high school the gym floor was ten thousand 860 sub drain for the tennis courts was 29 000. uh 750 and that's it was it was that was that Subterranean localized it was just at the tennis court just at the tennis court just at the toe or the slope on that west side because that's where all that pressure have we noticed as is it generating water well it was when we dug the trench in the summer before we can even
put the pipe in water was coming in there so that was a good sign so it's perforated pipe it's all sloped to it nearby storm yeah and uh you know the other thing and Joe if you wouldn't mind just talk about where we are with the scoreboards because I know we have one going up right now in the stadium uh yeah so football I believe the demo occurred today um so they will be there tomorrow installing the new scoreboard um and so that one is now going to fully support All Sports in the entire facility so it's actually built for football uh lacrosse soccer and now supports baseball so Mr Bullington doesn't have to get up and put his uh magnets on to make it look like a baseball scoreboard which he's dutifully done many
years we now just press a button and tell it it's a baseball and it changes to baseball mode so all those are done softball was completely replaced and um oh we did the gym and basketball and that was uh we had made it just in time for the first volleyball match and a lot of parents enjoyed seeing it um the basketball players have seen it we added a little NBA style uh features in there um just as a value add and they're really excited to play in that course probably the best system so far in in the league I would say I haven't seen the others yet but it's the most modern system what I'm what I'm hoping to see is the uh the backboard has a lighting strip so once the shot clock expires
that red light that you would see on an NBA or a college game is going to light up and I'm not sure if that's going to give greater Clarity or if it's going to give more controversy but I imagine the first few times that it goes off you're going to hear some loud cheering yelling cheering possibly and that might be a fun experience and that's actually uh in officiating it's a visual indicator to help with last second shots and it's been requirement in college for many years so it's probably going to be a high school requirement as well so we sort of did it to Future proof the facility so we didn't have to do an ad later and try to mash you know different generations of equipment together and the football baseball scoreboard would
be visible at the desk oh yes these are outdoor rated LEDs with uh custom captions so they'll actually say bulldogs and you can write type in the visiting team as well so it's very custom Alhambra blue all the way Alhambra gold pinstriping and I think a little bulldog logo on the side too so yeah I just I also want to add the funding source for all of these wonderful projects as it is every summer and all year long is from money that is designated solely for the purpose of facilities there's no general fund money that goes into fixing these they're restricted dollars um the scoreboards might have come from the one-time discretionary oh no they came from from 40 so it's still a facilities so um everything is uh there's no impact to the general
fund on any of these projects but uh money well spent keeping our facilities updated for our staff and our students so thank you for all your hard work Joe Andy Joe uh Tech Joe and bonjo thank you thank you thank you all right we have one more stop report this is initial lpac presented by Amy Espinoza and Yadira Zapata hi everyone uh thank you for having me tonight I'm going to give you um some information on the initial lpac um thank you Joe do you want me to so tonight we'll talk about what is the elpac who takes it what's on it how was it scored what happens after students take it and a little bit of data data so the first thing one second alrighty so what is the initial Outback so the lpac
stands for the English language proficiency assessments for California this exam is used to determine English language proficiency it's aligned with the 2012 English and English development standards and it is administered to students once during their time in a California public school system um so who takes it and uh everything I'm going to talk with you tonight is all in accordance with the California Department of Education guidelines and guidance so the way we determine is how is what students take it is when students enroll in a school in California for the first time ever the family completes a home language survey as a part of enrollment and the home language survey has four questions it asks what language did your student learn to speak when they first learn to speak what language is used primarily in
the home what language is used from the adults to the children and the last question is what um language do the adults speak to each other in the home and So based on those four questions if the first three are answered with any language that is not English then we then Mark a student in Aries as to be determined for their language fluency and again this is all in accordance with what the state says we have to do at that point if we have a student that shares for example that in the home the student first learned to speak Thai that's the home that's the language that's primarily spoken at home then again we determine we do TBD and Aries and we send home a notification letter to the families based on the survey that
you filled out your language um is being marked as or your fluency is being marked as to be determined and your student will be given this assessment and we give some information about the assessments and resources where they can look up information and my contact information if they want to speak with with me about anything else this is a point where let's say the family realized oh no I made a mistake we don't speak anything other than English in our home they can reach out to me contact UM anyone in our office share that information we go in and we uh correct it and then we can change that fluency to English only and then that student is not assessed if we don't hear any communication then we go ahead and schedule the assessment an
important number to know is 30 days from the first day of school we have 30 days to assess that student if their language fluency is needing to be determined okay um so what is actually on the initial lpac is there are four components on it which are the four components of language so the assessment um has questions around Reading Writing listening and speaking on the right side you can see some examples and they are grade and age appropriate so something that is a kindergartner is asked to speak about is very different than you know a ninth grader is asked to speak about and so in there and if you're curious and you know looking this for something to do later tonight I have lots of examples that you can click on that presentation and you
can see the breakdown for listening Reading Writing and speaking for every single grade level um and what that might look like and so those are the four areas that are assessed how was it scored so on the initial lpac there are three potential scores initially fluent or for short we call that ifep intermediate English learner or novice English learner so those are the three areas if a student score is initially fluent then they are not considered an English learner they're considered fluent at the time of assessment and that gets put into the system is ifep if they score intermediate or novice then that is where a student is now designated to be an English learner again a communication and a letter home to the families along with the score report and information on how to
read that is sent home to the family this is another time where the family realizes oh no we made a mistake they can make that correction and say no that is you know our student you know on the whole language survey that information you know we clicked on the wrong thing that's not actually accurate and so we do um we can change it um however though if the information was accurate on the home language survey and this is the score that they have then they as I said are now designated as English Learners on the right side you can see examples of what the score report looks like on the first page it tells you your overall score and on the second page it gives you the breakdown so even though there's four components uh
language um oral language is reading or I'm sorry oral language is speaking and listening and then written language is reading and writing so they kind of band it together to give information those breakdowns if you're interested you might just be like guitara move on but if you're interested those areas are beginning to develop somewhat to moderately developed or well developed and so that's where those areas are then make the overall scores as initial as initially fluent intermediate or novice again you can see example Square reports by clicking on those links they are hyperlinks so now let's say you know a student scores intermediate and what does that mean what what happens next so for the student that means that they will begin to receive English language development supports that varies from grade levels um so
at our elementary schools that those are strategies that teachers are now using and employing within just an immersed model we also have bilingual para Educators that would be potentially pulling students out working one-on-one really focusing on those um Reading Writing listening and speaking skills in the springtime the students will take the summative elpac to measure their progress and it's really incredible some of our students you'll see that they score a novice in the fall when they enter and by the springtime you can see students earning a four which is the highest on the summative lpac it's really incredible to see their progress um and students do remain considered English language Learners until they meet reclassification criteria or for students who are in special education who it's determined that these scores are not due to a
language fluency could potentially pursue alternate reclassification and then for the family side you will receive notification and information this is something that we do annually at the beginning of every year we send an update on student performance um Resources contact information all of that and then as always with any parent you know encouraged to participate in site and District committees some great examples of where our parents will participate as eloc d-lock School site counsel and we continue to monitor their progress as the year goes on this is our reclassification criteria um so earning a score of four and again again all of this is in Guidance with the CDE um the first point that needs to be met is earning a four on that lpac assessment to be considered for reclassification and then some data
points to share with you so you can see um where we've been the last few years so we're kind of always roughly in that mid 40 to about 50 students annually that are assessed something really important to remember right is that number 30 at any point new students when they come in if their language fluency needs to be determined we have 30 days to assess so as an example between making this slide deck I have two new students that just enrolled freshly moved here from out of the country and so we'll be assessing them within the next 30 days and so this is an ongoing assessment it's within 30 days of enrollment if we have to do this assessment then we do you can see some data points about kind of where our score breakdown
has been the last three years so initially fluent intermediate and novice and so you can kind of see where that's been the last few years [Music] um that's everything you know I'll pause for any questions thank you thank you thank you all right we have a new agenda item this evening these are board reports and this is this was added because of our board self-evaluation one of our goals is for us to be out in the community which I think we actually are out in the community a lot and going to lots of events but part of this is to then report back and I think another big part of this goal is that we're all five of us parents and so we're going to a lot of events that we would go to as
parents and this is the idea here is to stretch ourselves and go to some some events that have nothing to do with our own children and and then report out so we have two reports uh this evening and the first one is board member yamas reporting on the September racial Equity committee meeting so I've been attending the diversity equity and inclusion meetings at the district they are the second Tuesdays of the month from 3 45 to 4 45 part of the committee has been I wrote notes let me look at my notes [Music] um very devoted passionate caring teachers para Educators administrators parents and community members have been attending these meetings consistently and out of these meetings has come slam which we're going to be voting on later on in the agenda but I just
wanted to state that a lot of work is being put on After Hours by the by this group and the work that they do are doing is amazing so I want to commend them for the effort and the passion that they bring to this group great thank you all right 15.2 is board member Bruegger and she's going to speak about the mghs basketball night uh yes I attended the Martinez Junior High back to school night and it was extremely well attended uh great presentations um on track time wise engaged parents everyone was very happy they saw obviously the new um the painting and all the you know the structures look nice and clean and the parking lot was fabulous um and I just walked around and I talked to some people and walked us in
the classrooms and everyone was very engaged and it was just a really a good event and I think the parents are excited the kids are probably very excited too so it was it was nice to go to thank you so this will be at the second board meeting of every month we'll have two members report out and on different events so you'll be hearing about different things that we're doing 16 is public comments and before I read this whole Spiel we do have some people here tonight so if anyone does want to make a public comment on on under public comments or under a specific agenda item the cards are in the back in the green basket and then there's a basket next to assistant superintendent ayet and those can be submitted before you speak
on an item so we know that you are wanting to speak so 16 is public comments under government code 54954.3 members of the public have the right to address the board on any matter within the board's jurisdiction however the board may not take action on any non-agenda item individual speakers will be allowed three minutes to address the board 20 minutes have been allocated for this portion of the agenda additional time is allowed at the end of the meeting if there's not enough time to speak during public comments please see Google meet public comments protocols listed above so there are a couple of other specifics at the very beginning at the top of the agenda to comply with the brown act the board May listen to comments from speakers but can neither discuss nor take action
on the issues presented members of the board are very limited in their response to statements or questions by persons commenting on items not on the agenda board members or staff may one ask clarifying questions two make a brief announcement three make a brief report on his or her own activities four refer a matter to staff or other resources for information five requests that staff report back on a matter at a subsequent meeting or six direct staff to place the matter on a future agenda are there any public comments this evening I always love when I read the whole thing and then it's just like no all right moving on to item 17 consent calendar approval of the consent calendar means that all items listed here under are adopted by a single motion unless a member
of the board or superintendent requests that any such item be removed from the consent calendar and voted upon separately do we have any changes to the consent calendar there are no changes all right any discussion two things um first I always like to recognize our donors and the things we receive in um in doing so I was wondering Helen if you can kind of inform us as to what is the black baud giving fund [Music] it's um when you work for a company that does matching gifts and you put like PG e or um this might be another one but it's mostly PG e and you work for them and you put twenty dollars a month away for a donation to your child's school that's it goes through that company oh okay that's great thank
you and then the other one I wanted to highlight to recognize Allen conception for but you're here last week or last meeting here for this one for the uh for your uh your contracts with new leaf and uh just appreciate you being here for a consent item so thank you all right any public comment on the consent calendar we'll bring it back for action I'll make a motion to approve the consent calendar second student vote aye all in paper all right I opposed abstentions motion carries thank you 18 these are items for discussion and information 18.1 is public flyer distribution presented by Helen Rossi hi I I thought I'd bring this for information and possible discussion if the board chooses but it came to my attention a few weeks ago um that um there were
protocols in place for the distribution of flyers and it's at elementary schools mostly because the secondary stopped a long time ago but um the protocols were put in place when I was still a principal at the junior high so I I'm thinking around 2010 when we found the documentation from Nikki actually found it and um what it did was it it clarified the procedure for outside agencies and outside companies to give us materials to promote their whatever it is as long as it was by the board guidelines so we had this set of criteria and as part of the step is if somebody wants to send something home they have to put it bring it to the superintendent's office and I sign off on it and then all these changes happen so for instance normally
what would happen in 2010 for my recollection is it would be signed off by the superintendent emailed to me and then I would attach it to the email that I sent home with my Friday flyer well we no longer send home emails with our Friday flies that went to s'mores you know we all did some more and now we're in parent square and everybody's clicking stuff right and left but no Flyers were ever intended nor were they allowed to be put into children's backpacks and things were just Rolling Along smoothly until I realized that Flyers were actually being put in students backpacks which is against the criteria and the protocol that's been in place since 2010. so that prompted me to um look up the board policy that doesn't specifically talk about what a flyer
but it talks about um standards for advertisements by non-school groups and it's policy 1325 and it pretty much lines out as I'll show you in my PowerPoint tonight what's what's acceptable to go out and what's not acceptable but it doesn't lay out a detailed process so I did bring my thoughts about changing this to PTA Council when I met with them last week or the week before I don't remember I have no idea what day it is so you can ask Nikki I'm constantly what month is this what year is this but it's um I brought it I ran it by parent count you know parents from each of the sites and you know a lot of parents don't want any Flyers coming home in their students backpack it's more garbage for them to throw
out it's a waste of paper it's a this it's a that so anyway I'm going to go through this tonight and explain to the board what I'm proposing and what I have changed to and see if there's any discussion or feedback so um according to the policy we're allowed to advertise let's say in order to enhance Community Partnerships and support involvement in the schools non-commercial materials that have events that are related to kids that are good for kids or interest to students or parents Guardians promotional materials that's also in line with students and parents but prior to Distributing or posting or publishing the board policy says that the superintendent principal or designee shall review the materials based on the criteria which I've listed on the next slide it's always been in this District it's always
gone through the superintendent's executive assistant and then to the superintendent so it's not a procedure I made up um so we are not allowed to accept distribution um any materials that and obviously advertise any of these things that would not promote a safe School environment nor would it be showing our alliance towards anything that would not be good for kids and the list is right there and it's straight from board policy it even talks about uh we cannot send home Flyers that promote during the school day any food or beverage that does not comply with school nutritional standards is very specific we also can consider the educational value the age or maturity of the students in the intended audience and whether the materials support the basic educational mission of the district is there a benefits
of direct benefit to our kids and um and or their parents and Guardians so um the 2010 flyer distribution criteria that we found that I recall as a principle was that the flyer went to the superintendent's office people were allowed to bring 15 to 20 copies to each site to put on the counter if they wanted to and the Flyers would be attached to the principal's monthly newsletter our current practice has been which was realized a couple of weeks ago when I finally had time to think about it um that the Flyers were approved in my office they were full paper copies so if there are 600 kids in the school 600 copies were made they were divided into teacher classroom bundles banded and volunteers would put them in the teacher's mailboxes and then volunteers
or the teacher would take them put them in the kids backpacks and they would be sent home that way some weeks according to PTA you know they're over the years there have over the past few years there have been you know five six seven eight flyers in on a week depending on what was going on in the time of of year and usually they were found crumpled in the bottom but I but they're also I think they have Friday weekly folders at some of the school that they go in there as well so um taking everything into consideration and the fact that um we had a protocol in place our protocol that was in place cannot work because we do not email home a Friday flyer I and they the amount of paper that is
used in um Printing and the amount of time that is spent by the office manager a volunteer or the teacher or a para separating and sorting I have put into place for right now A process that includes submitting the flyer for approval the Flyers will be approved between the first and all the approved Flyers will be posted to the district website there is the page on the parents tab that says fly that calls out flyers and on the first and the 14th of the month all the Flyers that I sign off between the first and the 14th will be posted on the 15th in the PDF file with the date a link will go out to that on the superintendent's website parents can refer back to that at any time then 15 days later the
second set will come on and only two sets will be up at a time we'll post for for 30 days for each flyer for everyone to be able to see but we won't have paper copies and we won't distribute at sites um the only Flyers that can go um in backpacks are the ones from the school PTA school and PTA events such as the Otis Spunkmeyer cookie drive that they're raising money or the mother and son dance or the father-daughter dance that the school or the PTA is putting on so keep the messaging sent home with the children according to the things that are happening on that specific site and keep the outside agencies we do a variety they come from the king of the county barbecue to a Kiwanis event to people who have
individual uh Student Activities one is the lady who does the art classes and she she advertises through our district there's a lot that comes through so this would just um minimize the amount of paper that goes out and keep everything in one spot and within no time everyone will know where to go and I'll continually put the message out in in the newsletters to click on click on this tab and it will take you to all the Flyers this way people are receiving parents are receiving these and being able to make decisions for their families through what they're reading and that's it questions discussion this is not really it's not going to come back unless we want it to come back for anything because that you're not recommending that we actually change the board policy
there's no policy to change all this is within the current policy I'm just making the board aware of a practice that I've changed that we weren't following that we should have been following um and make the the community aware of the change as well because a lot of things have changed like there is no way to attach it to the Friday flyer and I talked to PTA Council I said one of the things that I was thinking about is having sending them out two principals and then they could put them on parent square but they brought up a good point that the parents wear would then become an advertisement Center and people would stop reading it like your Facebook all of a sudden had all these ads in there and people stopped looking at it
because they didn't want to deal with the ads I mean this this was a pretty decent discussion about you know what what the thoughts were and so um this is what I came up with I have a question but it is about the policy so I don't want to put you on the spot a parent contacted me today and asked me our fifth criteria is position we're not going to send out flyers that position the district on any side of a controversial issue and that seems really subjective and I'm just curious how how if you can answer this if not maybe we can talk about it next time how how has that been handled in the past I don't know I know that I haven't had anything that I had to sign off with except
um one flyer that I put out that I don't like to put out flyers that advertise um that promote children attendance at at not so much restaurants but the breweries and the and the bars and so on and so forth that's something that I don't think should come from a school that doesn't have we don't allow alcohol we don't allow it here I know that a lot of the Flyers that go out will say go to what was tonight's Taco Daddy's and that's fine it's a donate dine and donate kind of thing that comes from the school site but through my office that is not and I don't know of anything else I wouldn't know how to combine Define controversial unless it could be something today that's something different tomorrow so yeah [Music] yeah there
you go I'll know it when I see it and that's when I'll go to my board president [Music] no no no I don't and and like I said if there was something that came up and I was like whoa I would the first thing I would do is call Annie or the board president at the time if it wasn't Annie so that's because I I I really like the idea that is totally possible Helen I was I was on the other side of this matter at one point as the cub master for the local Cub Scout Troop and I was you know putting together the thousands of flyers and got the approval and went to the to this the different sites and to get that out and I I like what is being proposed I
like the the protocol and the structure it is a concern of we're going to be missing an opportunity with the the another form of Outreach and connection um and I guess the other concern is the I think 30 days is obviously plenty of time to have the posting but having it lost because there's too many or having it targeted to the the right age group or the right class level so I I'm not going to propose a change or do something different but I guess an awareness of of that yeah we so far I think we've gotten 20 this year 20 yeah around 20 between 20 and 25 which um it's been August September so it's been it's been a month it's a month and a half a month and a half about 20 of
them so it would have been about 15 flyers in each one and I think just like with anything once parents get used to going to a place for information and they're looking for it and I mean it'll happen it's it's not going to be a hundred percent ideal for the outside vendors but I have to worry about what's happening inside before I worry about what's happening outside [Music] that's something that just came to mind um having Community boards at schools if we're not going to be passing out massive amounts of Flyers maybe we should have a community board of events that are approved and have a flyer posted on a community board for a set amount of time and over time parents and students will come to understand that this community board is where they
find out about events that are happening and then the parents can look into the website for the flyer directly but at least there's a a focused point of information available to the students and the families as a community board at each school with these flyers so we don't have to dispute disperse them in every backpack that everybody knows there's the community board there's a community event this is where you look for like the Cub Scout flyer or the art flyer or whatever it is that's happening in the community maybe you can set something like that up [Music] thank you can I make a comment really quick we have one of those at Alhambra right in front of the like counts between the counselor's office and the actual main office and that's where like the leadership
can put up posters yearbook can put up notifications um college and career counselor can put up her posters Ms Janice Collins she puts up whatever needs to be done for juniors and seniors a lot of people go especially during January and February when we're doing our elections that's where everyone goes and puts up posters and it's everyone passes it every day going in between classes so I think that's a really good opportunity for other schools I mean it's just a wooden board that has a lot of thumb tacks I hear you I hear you we just rebuilt three elementary schools now I gotta rethink where I'm gonna put that up and how I'm gonna put it up and how much it's going to cost to get it into the stucco and then once that's done
because people don't use it anymore how I'm going to fill the holes of Stucco so that's that's where my head goes automatically I'm still on the facility side of the house and I can't get it out of my head so okay any um is there any public comment on this item all right we will move to 18.2 revised job description office manager presented by Dr scudero so this is an informational item I'd be glad to answer any questions uh as a result of the 2023 spring 2023 reclassification committee meeting uh the district was encouraged to review the structure of and consider updating the office manager job description CSA leadership in the district worked collaboratively to update the office manager job description which if approved at the next board meeting will result in moving four Elementary
School office managers one Middle School office manager one continuation school office manager and one adult education office manager from range 38 range 39 along with differences and and changes in their job descriptions this will result in estimated 10 000 costs to the general fund two thousand costs for adult education we're bringing this for your information today be glad to answer any questions can you speak to what precipitated this so every spring there's a reclassification committee meeting we usually bring in a couple HR professionals from outside the area to be on the committee our staff our classified staff can make requests to have jobs reclassified changing the classification of the job or changing something about the job usually the job description the school office manager reclassification Quest was voted down but even when they're voted down
sometimes people will encourage districts to consider revising and updating a job description and so after several months of conversation and discussion uh that's what we did and the job description was was a little bit ancient and we updated a lot of the things that they do now in terms of with technology and so on and so forth rather than shorthand so we took that they don't do that anymore thank you any other questions okay public comment all right we will see this at the next meeting then correct 18.3 is Martinez adult education Paris C Indian education job description also presented by Dr scudero right so this is um this is uh the Cyprus clerk 3 job description associated with the title VI Grant focused on American Indian education so when I bring it back to
you I'll remove even though adult education the the director brought this to our attention it's actually funded through title VI and it's runs Sabbath bring up that lane but in essence what's happened is there is a tempest Clark 3 position that was tasked with focusing on American Indian education grant and we've been unable to fill it so with csea's collaboration we've made a couple changes uh to the typist III clerk position um and that's what we're bringing for your information today and hopefully approval the next board foreign this funding is a perpetuity or does it have a Twilight there's as far as I know there's no end date on the grant but grants in my experience grants come and go they usually don't they usually do not operate in perpetuity so um this particular position
the hours that have not been filled are being reduced to kind of stretch out that Grant so we can have ongoing services to our American Indian families um but who knows how long is we have um we have participated in this program for for as long as I've been in this district and it's it's a smaller program now but we're still receiving funds at a lesser level but the I don't see as long as we apply for the grant and we have the um the numbers we should be fine so okay other questions public comment on this one 18.3 all right we'll bring this back for Action next time 19 these are action items 19.1 is approval of contract for services student-led anti-racism movement slam presented by Yadira Zapata okay good evening again um so
we are here to share some updates um so we're calling it setting the musd diversity Equity inclusion plan emotion part two um as you can see on here part one is linked in there and that was a presentation from two weeks ago and I'm going to actually let um some of our guests here also introduce themselves hello I'm Candace Monroe speed I'm a special education teacher at the junior high hi I'm vasley Spanos I'm also an education specialist at the junior high Gary kuzak principal at Martinez Junior High Keisha emmendorfer principal at the high school you feel you'll hear some of their voices as we move through the um updates today um so just as a reminder um that this uh you know this idea and this work is being built around that um Dei
plan that was approved by the board um in the spring um this aligns really well with our lcap goal number five but in the Dei plan it's specifically calls out culture and climate so recognizing an inclusive culture and climate are essential to students well-being so musd will build an anti-bias and anti-racist culture and climate that promotes belonging equity and mutual respect um that Focus area that we're zoning in on here is providing opportunities for student boys student partnership and student training to support deeper understanding of equity diversity and inclusion and this ties in very nicely with that anti-bias grant that we were awarded in the winter springtime just as a reminder of our why the anti-purp anti-bias grant the purpose of the anti-bias education grant program is to prevent address and eliminate racism and bias
in all California public schools and making all public schools inclusive and supportive of all people so at the last presentation we talked a little more about the who what when where why and now we're going to talk a little more about the how and so um the overview is to provide racial Equity training to interested students at the junior high and Alhambra High School um and the ideas to partner with the student-led anti-racist movement to do this work and to provide that training students will apply to participate in the slam seminars via Google form approximately 60 students at the junior high and 100 students at Alhambra High filled out an interest survey about a week and a half ago is when that survey was pushed out applications will become available pending of course board approval
of this contract but the applications will become available tomorrow with a one-week turnaround for submission and that will put us about one week out from the first student Day or about 10 days out from the first student day so that will give time for the advisors to go through those applications and identify those students um at each site we'll have 60 seats at the junior high and at the high school and the criteria for selection so let's say we got Beyond those 60 students or even just combing through and looking at each 60 um at each application the criteria for selection will be a completed application commitment to all three seminars so those dates are very prominent and woven throughout the application many times and representation reflective of the student body makeup of both Alhambra
and the junior high and in addition to that we will also have no more than two paid advisors per site for both the junior high and the high school so four advisors total to help do that work and then in um you know taking into consideration the feedback that we received um at the last board presentation as well as input provided by cabinet um then we are doing a little bit of a revised approach um and so what we're asking for tonight is consideration to sign a one-year contract um and pending successful completion of that one year then we would potentially sign on for year two next spring and then be on for year three and building from there so right now it's a one-year contract and Candace War minus what will come out of
year one and our first year we'll provide training for the students they'll have three full days at the high school of training at the Junior High they'll be three half days and our outcome is that the school-wide survey results demonstrate improved student connectedness safety and achievement in attendance also the two advisors will also have um training as well thank you and just as a reminder that that school-wide survey I'm is referred to here as the California healthy kids um and I'll speak a little more about the other side so pending a successful completion of year one we would pursue to continue that partnership with uh slam for year two and then year three again as one year contracts um year two and three would welcome you and returning students to continue that learning and thread
um it is an opportunity to build that student voice and district-wide effort so the students will be able to participate and have that ownership around the Dei plan itself and those action items that are applicable to that student perspective as well as that Equity review and audit that will come out of the Ed Trust did I say it in the right order um and determining what does successful completion of year one look like so analysis of school-wide surveys as Candice mentioned and so looking at those healthy kid surveys as you recall from last time there's a lot of area for growth in student connectedness student safety achievement and attendance but also looking at our Baseline data and so this was something I mentioned last time um but looking at currently what is our you know
looking at last year and previous years about our chronic absenteeism our suspension rates our student achievement student performance on those high-stakes assessments but also our local data also in working with Dr Watson I'm looking to identify a survey that will reach all students the California healthy kids survey is a great snapshot of information but it's for seventh graders and 11th graders so there are sixth graders eighth graders 9th 10th 12th they're kind of missing that we're missing that clear voice and so looking to identify an additional survey that can be given to students in the next few weeks as another Baseline measure with checkpoints as a midpoint throughout the year and an end of the year as well to see where we've seen growth and movement in these areas to consider year two and Beyond
in terms of continuing the slam program partnership and we those are our updates all right thank you for questions next question yeah thank you and and thank you for for responding to my emails I know there's I I hope you don't take my scrutiny of this as uh as opposition it really is it's a lot of money and we want to make sure we're getting the most bang for our buck um and I realize and I appreciate you investigating the uh the the alternative and and I didn't find it wasn't as racism focused as is uh community relations and and so um thank you for doing that homework um one question on the three full sessions is that what's the schedule is that three and days in a row or is that spread out over
no it's spread throughout the year so there is October 12th and 13th so one at the junior high one of high school so we tried to pair them so that it's kind of happening around the same time November 29th will be the high school December 12th I believe will be the junior high originally it was going to be December 13th for the high school but that's right before finals week doesn't seem like great timing so we switched that and then the final day will be in March I want to say they're March 5th and 6th there's something in that little park and Dan I appreciate this uh the revision to kind of trial it out and figure out how to measure this success so this is this is great thank you of course you're welcome
hey Sarah that's a that's awesome that you had so many interest surveys from the students were they told the criteria when they submitted that interest survey yeah their interest survey so what we did was um and actually Candace was a huge lift in this Carrie and Keisha and also Ryan Hussey shout out if you're listening he couldn't be here with us tonight but what we did is we sat down together we developed a um interest survey that gave that information about this is what we're seeking to do these are the dates um this is what it looks like really I mean I'll pull some data together and share it with you guys some of these responses were really beautiful from the students and just really amazing um and then uh Candace and Ryan then we
kind of built like a slide deck and Candace and Ryan did voice over that then was pushed out school-wide so there was a video that kind of explained what was going on what students were filling out in the in terms of the interest form so a lot of these things definitely were on the table wanting to be very transparent about what students were going to be able to participate in and get that feedback from them yeah I was gonna I'll Echo that I was really pleased to see so much interest especially with such a short turnaround time so I think that's really I think that's really great I also I like the revised plan for lots of reasons I mean as as Carlos said it is a lot of money but I also think it
offers the racial Equity committee a lot of flexibility because this grant is a sizable amount of money and so it doesn't really commit you to like if you're not finding the success you want there's still a lot of money to potentially find something different and bring to students so I like the year one my only and I didn't I apologize I didn't email you I'm not trying to put you on the spot because I'm not even really looking for an answer I don't think but my concern is this the expected outcomes it's so big and if we don't see the movement that you want I don't want to be in a position where we say well this was a failure because I think there's a lot of things that we do that are worthwhile that
are like you know we might get anecdotal evidence from the students or we also know that that things movements of this size and initiatives of this you know bringing something to a whole campus it can be slow going slower than we wish it would be and so I just am a little concerned that we're not necessarily going to see a ton of movement in these surveys and so I don't just something like food for thought when you bring it back I don't know that that means like if we don't see just like this exponential change or really even in in every single area that I don't know that that means okay this was didn't work we have to start over that would be my only I mean we just know we also we look at
data here on the board all the time it does it's just all it's all it's slower than we want it to be it's smaller than we want it to be and so I don't want that to necessarily be something that says we're not going to do this because it's yeah not enough thank you for saying that I think it's I mean I just think you've said exactly what it is right in education I think we should always be studying these lofty goals we want the best for our students we want the best for our community and like you said sometimes it takes a long time so while we want these measures as like a Baseline and want to continue to monitor them I think that's great food for thought about what does progress really look
like and what does change really look like and so I think that'll be ongoing conversations of our committee but also with everyone sitting at these staples around us right our cabinet our board and you're really always wanting to move forward in the best way possible so thank you for saying that yeah I really agree with that and I think I'd be really interested to read some of what they said in their interest survey and then also what they say at the end of the program I will I'll share that I'll pull I'll put together some of some of them there's a lot as you saw there were a lot of responses so I won't I'll give you the really like awesome highlights and and some good food for thought that we got too so I'll
share some of that with you did this did this uh video go out to everybody it was still at the junior high it was pushed out via homeroom so every single class first period starts with him in the home room and that was the vehicle for disseminating that information and at the high school it was the same idea but through the access period thank you all right thank you yeah I was just going to call for any public comment on item 19.2 19.1 I'm sorry 19.1 okay seeing then we can take it bring it back for Action I'd like to make a motion to approve the contract services for the the slam program with the one year one year trial period and Reporting back of fine findings and results right well second student vote I
all in paper all right I opposed abstentions motion carries all right thank you and thank you for being here and supporting and um and sitting through the whole meeting all right 19.2 this is public hearing and Adoption of resolution number 2024-07 sufficiency of instructional materials presented by Amy Espinoza I'm sorry we oh I was gonna yeah I forgot how that works I knew I had to adjourn it thank you so I think I have to adjourn it first and then we present that item or can you present it and then we adjourn for the public hearing I think you open the public hearing oh sorry but I think so I think we what we've done before is there's like a description so that if there are public comments they would know what they're commenting on
okay yes definitely so um the purpose of the public hearing is to adopt a resolution saying that each pupil in the district has sufficient textbooks and instructional materials in the four core academic areas uh English language arts math science and social studies and this includes materials are aligned to the academic content standards and Frameworks adopted by the State Board of Education this also includes foreign language classes as well okay great so at this point we'll adjourn the regular meeting and open the public hearing so are there any public comments regarding the adoption of resolution number 20 24-07 okay seeing none we will adjourn the public hearing and reopen thank you reopen right [Music] people say we do like three of these a year and they're all I think we have one next month too reopen
the regular meeting and so at this point the board will take action on this item unless there are any questions from the board assuming this is the same Williams group that did the walkthrough it is this is a requirement to happen within the first eight weeks of school um the Williams visit is pinpoints a specific School site this is overall so the entire District all right well I will move to approve resolution number 2024-07. second student vote I all in favor aye aye opposed abstentions motion carries we do not need additional comments from the public this evening and that brings us to 21 comments from the superintendent board members and future agenda items I'll start on this end Marisol do you have anything tonight I do so let me just make sure I check my
dates here um [Music] so Saturday September 16th um the Alhambra High School cross country team ran at the new Hall De La Salle Invitational meet and I wanted to share that for the first time in history the Alhambra cross country team had a full female team so that is just phenomenal and amazing and I can't believe it took this long to happen but um parents please encourage your children especially your females your daughters to run cross country that is all [Music] foreign I just want to say I did attend the Pops concert at the high school and it was really nice because not only did they have um the high school they had the junior high and so they had first um the Jazz Band then they had the junior high Orchestra Alhambra High School
orchestra and then you know concert band and at the end they had um color guard and I think the marching band but it was moved indoors and it was just a really fun event and it was really nice and it was nice to see both um principles from both the junior high and the high school there as well really it was nice it was a good event a couple things I do want to um I was at the pop Arts band um the performance as well and after tonight's performance I think it's it's important to recognize how well our district is doing as far as music and arts um I think we have a really talented group of of kids and and I'm glad that this district is still able to afford them opportunities to
express that it's an important part of the development and along those lines with the women's sports I'd like to recognize the Girls JV water polo which is probably one of the more aggressive Sports out there just came in first place at uh Encinal and a JV tournament so I was very proud of them they did a great job and all the all the sports this season and along those lines we can support our students next Saturday the 30th at the MEF run where it's not too late to register and uh support at the 5K the MRC MEF run run for education that's it [Music] I just wanted to mention that um October 4th is our first lcat meeting of the Year here in the boardroom and I attended last Saturday I attended the very first
Pride Celebration in Martinez at the waterfront and was put on by a community group they had um they had uh grants from the city and from the rainbow Center and there were so many musd families there it was just a really great family event there were games and music and vendors and our GSA Club from AHS had a great table where they were passing out like little affirmations to people and several of them were there so it was just a really great Community event and I will see you at the MAF run well I was going to mention the me a friend also but I will um since we've said it there are definitely tickets still available you can still sign up to run but we're also for the first time in four years bringing
back the family friend night which is on Friday and um kids eat free with a paying adult and Kiwanis and rotary put that on so this is another nice Community event it's at the refinery Clubhouse and there are some raffle items and games for kids and it's just kind of a nice event pasta before the big run so I hope we can see you there I'm actually volunteer I volunteered for that so that for the first time in many many years I can just not work the run and just enjoy with my family and elderly dogs we'll be going slow but we will be doing it um so we'll see you all there and um yeah great Community event supporting our schools well I will be volunteering on that Saturday morning by first stop is
uh driving the golf carts down at 6 30 on Saturday morning so I have a couple of volunteers to help me um but I was going to mention the fun night and the the run but right right after the run the next week goes right into parent conferences with minimum days for elementary all four elementaries with homecoming at the end of the week the next weekend is carnouine there is literally something every single solitary weekend going on in this district for any different grade levels through Veterans Day which at that point will begin our will have begun our cross knock on wood hit somebody I'm not sure our move into the new John sweat building hopefully will be completed by Thanksgiving and um the kids can come back to enjoy the new building so never
know things happen but so that's it all right sounds great lots of fun events coming up we will be back here in two weeks and with that we will adjourn foreign
