001all right the board will go into closed session after hearing any public comments are there any public comments on closed session item 3.3 per second uh we are back in closed session leading us tonight in the Pledge of Allegiance will be Christy Bieber please rise and put your hand over your heart ready begin I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all Maybe thank you uh tonight's closed session included item 3.3 public employee performance evaluation for the superintendent the board had a discussion uh moving on may have a motion in second for approval of the February 28th minutes the minutes were not attached to the agenda but on the electronic version so if

002I would just say it's better to make them available PDF on the the board Docs of that in that email I mean okay all right may have a motion in second for approval of those minutes second all those in favor say aye aye I'm gonna vote no just because I they weren't attached to the agenda that I had okay on a motion then passes four to one uh the agenda for tonight was approved at the 4 30 session with a motion by Mr Elder segmented by Miss Flynn reports to the board Miss Christy Bieber I have friends we brought we brought people all right good evening president Witkin members of the Board of Education Dr Wesley and the cabinet I am Doris dawnlu Richmond and I am the President of RBF as the Board of

003Trustees we are honored to have been asked to present this evening and share a bit more about the impact of the Redondo Beach Educational Foundation on our Redondo Beach Public Schools and the students who benefit often we are asked where our funding comes from the majority of our funding is from parents and community members who want to support our schools by participating in the annual investor Drive each fall in addition to the nearly eight hundred thousand dollars we receive from these individual donors we also receive sponsorships and grants from local businesses corporate sponsors like Skechers and Northrop Grumman and private foundations I know many of you are familiar with our color wheel slide as we use it for all the back to school night presentations and flyers in the fall but it really is a

004good illustration of all the areas that we support with the annual Grant to the district this year in addition to some of the areas we support year after year such as Avid intramural sports at the middle school and Elementary Amusement program music programs we are also excited to support the enhancements to the ruhs library that you heard about at the last school board meeting as well as district-wide ebike Rodeo that took place in February I would now like to introduce our executive director Christy Bieber thank you Doris so when we were asked to present this evening I was spinning my wheels trying to figure out how I could best explain the impact of what rbef does and as you can see on this slide there are lots of students actively engaged in the programs we

005support but the pictures are only a little piece of what we do and that's when it hit me I am not the person to tell this story this is not my story to tell and so we brought students to tell the story we are joined this evening by four students from ruhs who will now talk a little bit about their experience with some of the programs we support across grade levels so while all of these are high school students they are participating in things that start as early as third grade robotics at some of our elementary schools fifth grade band all the way up through Avid which is the latest start at Middle School so I am first going to bring up Lauren's story and she is going to talk to us a little bit

006about the AVID program hi um so in my Avid class it's like an elective that we get to take that we stay with our teacher all four years so I have my teacher Mr Burke who I love he's a great teacher and we spend time prepping for college and getting help in any of our studies we have trfs which is like a form that we fill out and it like helps us with something that we're having trouble in and some sort of school work that's going on that week we meet twice a week those trfs are given to college tutors that are hired for the AVID program we get help with whatever we need we can ask as many questions as we need it's very collaborative with all of our other students with us it

007helps us immensely there's so many classes that we're all like completely like thanking all of our like like tutors at the end of the year going we wouldn't have passed without you thank you so much um we're learning a lot about colleges we're doing so much research about all the different types of colleges what we need to do to get in how to apply financial aid we're all super relieved at the AVID program covers our application fees so there's a lot of kids in my classes that feel like they can apply to whatever College they want to without having that extra burden of all these expenses that they know that they're going to have to pay for their family and we focus on like so crowd of seminars sometimes too where we talk as a

008class about some sort of debate and it really helps us with like public speaking I used to be really bad at public speaking it's my least favorite thing on the planet I started in my freshman year and look at me now but um I'm fine with it now hated it before totally have that to think for my Avid teacher that I have um but yeah we really focus on ourselves and our futures and knowing what we need to get done in our lives and it's given me and I know that my classmates have given gotten the confidence as well and like we're okay with where we are right now we're okay in applying to colleges and we also know that Beyond college and what we're going to do with our lives like we're okay like

009we're also focusing on like how to like do a resume how to get a job how to balance all of that so we're like pretty well-rounded students as well we're thinking about our Futures and I noticed that my friends that aren't in Avid I'm thinking a lot about my future way more than they are um and I'm also able to help them with questions that they have so it's really encouraging and it's a really really great program that's helped me a lot all right thank you Lauren all right so now I have some friends from band um I have will Al gaze and Jaden Bailey um I was really excited that I got to have will up here with me today because I remember Will's first day in the Redondo Beach Schools he came in

010fourth grade in the middle of the school year um so Will and Jaden are going to talk a little bit about their experience with band that starts in fifth grade hello I'm will August I'm a junior with donating high school and uh yeah so I moved here in fifth grade and uh you know made a couple friends or sorry fourth grade and made a few friends but uh joining the band program provided me many more relationships that have lasted you know until now um uh fifth grade you know wasn't it was more of just a hobby something fun to do but you move into middle school and you make even more friends and you get you improved musically until High School where unfortunately freshman year we were um at home and there wasn't many more

011friends to make but sophomore year I kind of uh fell in love with the activity and all the people I got to beat and um yeah um okay oh of course um so I actually do really love this activity and although we are criticized for how many hours we have I have um I auditioned and was accepted into a drum corps which is essentially a professional marching band that does all-day practices all summer and I will be touring and Performing across the country all summer so [Applause] uh hi everyone my name is Jayden Bailey I'm here to talk about my experience in the Band program I've been in the program for many years however I remember the first day my teachers announced that we were able to sign up in fifth grade my brother Seth

012he's four years older than me and he also did band of fifth grade um uh and he uh played trombone he played throughout Middle School this inspired me to join but I wanted to play something cooler I wanted something I wanted to play something more so through my my first ever band practice is um the the elementary school band director Mr Buchan pulled out a snare room I was the first ever percussionist at the elementary school level at the time I didn't know but that moment would lead me down a path to where I am today um from Elementary School playing on a trash can as a drum to middle school going to Knott's Berry Farm for festivals to being the first middle schooler to ever join High School drumline to where I am today

013a senior in high school still loving and appreciating music for its complexities and its simple qualities I was told to talk about how my band experience enhanced School however I feel School enhanced my band experience the band program became became my life it provided me with many opportunities to interact with music it made me curious and I pushed boundaries playing playing in my own formed rock band with my friends we played around local areas along with participating in local youth Battle of the Bands the band program is a close small community and we celebrate every newcomer with Wide Open Arms I appreciate the band for teaching me to push my own boundaries and reach a new heights I thought I would never be able to reach before I learned many schools not only I didn't

014I learned many skills not only about being a drummer but also being a performer actor and a leader through all the ups and downs Ben has become an unforgivable part of me that will last for the rest of my life [Applause] and Jaden I have to to keep pulling the microphone down because I'm the shortest speaker up here it's not good when all of your kids friends get taller than you finally I'd like to introduce Alex Bloomer Alex is an active participant in our beach cities robotics team they are in the middle of their competition season and I hear they're doing pretty well so I'm very excited that he's able to be here with us and tell us a little bit more about how robotics has progressed through high school for him Alex uh hi

015I'm Alex Bloomer I'm a junior at Redondo um for those who don't know beach cities robotics is a combined robotics team between Redondo Union and MiraCosta with a lab at Redondo we compete in the first robotics competition every year so they create a new game every year and for us to compete in and task and we're tasked with designing building and programming a new robot every year like the one in the picture um so it's robotics is a great way to build on what we learn in the classroom and apply it to real world problems so I'm a programmer on our team and I took the computer science a class that's offered at Redondo and I found we use the same language programming language and many of the same strategies that are taught in that

016class to program our robot and we're able to use those in a real world scenario and solve actual problems with them which I think is very interesting and I know many people who took the engineering track at Redondo as well on our mechanical side who found it very similar to what we do in robotics and we're able to build on that with the things we do on our actual robot another thing is we're able to learn from people in who are working jobs that we may want to go into in the future we have people working at Disney a Raytheon Boeing Northrop all the aerospace companies around here and we're able to learn from learn from them and they're able to help us grow as programmers or engineers and figure out what we want to

017do in the future and unfortunately these robots are not cheap uh they can cost anywhere from ten to twenty thousand dollars a year and we're very grateful for rbsd and rbef for helping us fund uh these projects thank you I hope this find it a little better insight into your dollars at work that's what we put on everything your dollars at work right so this is your dollars at work thank you again for the invitation to be here this evening and a special thank you to all the supporters who make these opportunities uh like the ones you just heard about possible I know some people are watching it streaming so hi all the people who are watching it streaming that have participated in rbef this year we thank you as well um [Applause] thank you

018very much because before you leave does any board member have questions I do go ahead Lauren [Laughter] what is trf so we fill out a form where we like if we have like a problem like my math class I've been using that a lot lately I'll like have a math problem for my homework suddenly I'm needing help with it I fill it out I do it as much as I possibly can until I get confused and there's like a point of confusion question where I like doing work the question should be more specific tutor and I have like definitions of stuff that has to do with the problem or like formulas and stuff like that and then I like presented on a board and the college students are mainly helping but then if the other

019kids in my group that I put in with the same like subject if they know what to do they're supposed to like really like help us and like we're all like working as a group to like finish the problem until kind of like I understand it and I can do it a lot of times like kids are asking multiple questions like really solidify what they're doing a lot of kids have got like a lot of help with like a lot of their more difficult classes and um it's helped us a lot um but like going on with that like we also have to take like Focus notes so um like binder checks to keep us like organized and those are like a big part of our Avid part of our binder check so like we

020use our notes that we take in our other classes that have to do with like the subject that we needed help on specifically for our trf as well so it's like a really focused way of like getting the help that we need like thank you Alex you back there yet do you watch BattleBots I have watched it it's we're not allowed to do a lot of this stuff [Laughter] so yeah we've read the rules we looked for exploits we're not allowed sorry Alex another question for you did you start with first Lego league in fourth grade and work your way all the way up the system or did you join later I didn't know I joined in freshman year I know some people who did it at the elementary middle school level but I joined

021in freshman year which was actually online that year because so one of my sister's friends she was she's three years older than me one of her friends was in robotics and she introduced me to it so we were actually able to do a lot in ninth grade on over Zoom we got these uh mini Romy Bots they're about this big um and we were able to we each got one for the programming side we we could control we could use it at home we could program it to do simple things driving a certain distance turning or balancing things like that so we were able to do a lot at home which is how I got into it in ninth grade oh that's fantastic I've coached first Lego League at fourth and fifth grade and it's

022wildly different from what you do at the high school it's amazing to see that progression so you know thank you to our incredible students for coming tonight I love that you have these opportunities thank you to Ed foundation and everyone who contributes that foundation for making these opportunities possible because this really does unlock those parts that we don't you know we can't offer them necessarily for funding reasons but this is a chance for students to really be engaged and feel part of our school community and give you those opportunities so I'm I'm so grateful we have those and just a huge thank you I'm just curious what's your band's name yes behind schedule okay perfect thank you guys to RBF and you guys talk about the niche programming that RBF allows us to offer but

023I know that RBF also does things that touch every student at the high school level isn't it SAT test s-a-t opportunities PSATs all of those things so um thank you for making that available to all of our students you know watch my fifth my fifth grader son's band concerts this afternoon RBF was thanked for that yeah thank you to the students for coming tonight and and thank you Doris and Christy for coming up with the idea of showcasing your students and and some of the great programs you're doing it's very informative and and interesting so we appreciate that next report is the measure queue Bond oversight committee Andy averick good evening school board members Dr Wesley and cabinet my name is Andy averick current measure Cube on committee chairperson I want to thank the voters

024of Redondo Beach for approving measure Q in 2012. the bond has supported important School infrastructure and facility improvements the goal of the bond committee is to assure the public and the board that the bond funds are spent in accordance with Bond measures and facility plan the committee held four official meetings during the fiscal year to receive the annual audit and the final reports from measure Q meetings at the district office the committee reviewed the process by which the bonds proceeds are distributed some committee members attended School Board meet board meetings in person and virtually of course in our current times our chief technology officer provided the committee with a tour of the technology department the data center the maintenance and refurbishment of the data center the equipment the data center equipment was presented security protection

025of the system was discussed student information system software power school was reviewed looking ahead the committee will continue to meet as needed to review and monitor the final expenditures of the bond funds and the bond oversight committee anticipates completion of their work in the coming year a special thank you to Dr alpern for all the help all of her help keeping us on track focused educating us on the financial aspects of the task an additional thank you to Enos campus and Jennifer Melgar for their support I'd also like to thank the current past members of the committee for their service to the school district and dedication the committee committee received the audit reports on the 24th of January this year 2023 for fiscal year ending June 30th 2022 issued by the accounting firm Christy white

026professional accountancy Corporation several members of the committee including myself Susan Rango Janet Barbosa Heather Willoughby attended the presentation of the results by the of by the auditor to the bond committee at the study session on the 24th of January it's the opinion of the committee that the proceeds from the sale or the bonds issued on March 7 2013 and any subsequent issuances related to measure Q were only used for the purposes specified in article 13A section 1B 3 of the California Constitution and not for any other purpose including teacher and administrator salaries and other school operating expenses thank you Andy does anyone have any questions just like to say thank you for bringing another one of your board committee Bond committee members here because it's good that we have a place to finally get her

027involved in the schools so long overdue Andy are you are you leaving on July 15th I believe so yes okay not quite still have a few hundred thousand dollars to his term my term is up yeah well well thank you again for for serving and for providing oversight and for all that you and your better half have done over the years thank you all right all right next is Dr alperin thank you uh tonight's second interim report is really a it's a frozen end time snapshot of our District's financial position through January 31st of this year um as well as the direction that we're heading for the remainder of the fiscal year it also includes projections of the following two out years so namely what has changed in the last few months is the governor's

028January budget proposal for the 23-24 year where he announced an increased cost of living adjustment um we also have added an additional transportation funding for this year which is home to school transportation we anticipate that that will be an add-on for multiple years next board meeting you'll see a spring a transportation plan to you for approval and that's Again part of this additional funding for transportation we received a 3.7 million dollar learning recovery block grant again categorically funded and then lastly we received an Arts music and instruction materials block grant that was quite flexible it was close to Six Million Dollars however the governor has requested in his budget proposal a take back of a portion of that so we have identified and placed only four million dollars into our budget plan given that that

029reality so those are those are some of the assumptions that we've made in the second interim report so budget planning and budget Productions are are only as accurate as the assumptions that you make and so assumptions are just that assumptions they're not a definite plan of where things will head but it's based on what we know right now and if we assume what we know right now and what we think will happen this is how you build out you know future planning but it also means that it's subject to change and it not only is subject to change it will change that's a given so what we know right now is this year we received a 6.56 percent cost of living adjustment with a one-time add-on of 6.7 percent it was just a one-time it

030was a grateful one time but a one-time at that the 8.13 cost of living adjustment is what the governor is proposing there's some discussion up in Sacramento right now about whether or not that's actually going to be the cost of living adjustment that we receive but that is the assumption that we are making an 8.13 cost of living adjustment for next budget year and then a 3.54 percent cost of living adjustment for the 24-25 year um the the graph at the bottom is a quite complicated formula and it's my understanding that there has been some confusion based on my presentation last year so I actually added um some asterisks on my presentation so that um kind of a false narrative is not out there around what does this really mean for us in terms of

031our enrollment in terms of our our funding so a funded Ada is has always been a complicated formula it's just a little more complicated now because in the past we used to take a combination of what our enrollment was and you you would determine what the attendance rate was so right will you hear me talk about absences all of the time and then that would be the basis upon which our local control funding formula where we would receive our funds the majority of our funds for the district um covid happened attendance dropped um so in Sacramento and across the state for the last year and a half they negotiated how can we better better uh fund better predict and not have school districts kind of falling off of financial Cliffs because you go from 96

032percent attendance rate to 90 attendance rate it's you know millions and millions and millions of dollars so they came up with a formula so now our funded Ada is based on the previous three years of attendance it's an average so for this year our funded Ada is 9544 students based on this year's attendance last year's attendance and the year before is where we get our projected Ada for next year 9293. it isn't that doesn't mean that's how many students we have in our schools it's not the same thing it's not enrollment um and then the and then again a prediction or an assumption is based on attendance rates and enrollment we predict that our funded Ada in the 24-25 school year will be 9012. can we pause just there for a second absolutely the three-year

033averaging is that sunsetted then or is it still in effect for 24 20. that is the new California formula for that state schools yes okay I didn't thank you yeah yeah that's a great question and it helps me to clarify just for uh just for a comparison so I can show you the difference between funded Ada and our enrollment so this year 2223 our current enrollment is 9548 students okay so that would you know if it were only based on one year of attendance be like we'd have to have a hundred percent attendance to get that we're benefiting from previous years of higher enrollment by getting to that that number next year we made some conservative projections by assuming a one percent reduction in enrollment we don't know whether that's true or not but that's

034what we assumed so we're assuming next year that we'll have 9453 students and then in 24 25 9 358 students so with those assumptions we um we took those assumptions we assumed a 95 attendance rate which is what we're averaging right now and that's how we came up with our assumptions our projections um so before kovid our attendance rate was somewhere between 96 and 97 percent very very high um last year we were in the low 90s and this year we're averaging close to 95. so that's that's the number that that we used in our in our calculation and so that the three-year averaging is on Ada not on enrollment with current attendance but on enrollment times attendance Factor basically for those prior three years and so it's the current year and the prior to

035or is it it's yeah um so for predicting for next year it's this year plus our prior to for predicting yes but for actual funding no for the funding for the funding okay because they need to know by the spring so it's all the current year is always going to be based on a three-year look back yes yes right yes and then is there a ways out of that if we do get increasing enrollment so um since I I have not followed it as closely because we are not in this position but since the vast majority I think close to 80 percent of school districts in the state have declining enrollment most of us were pretty pleased that this is like a three-year average because you don't you know having an average avoids these you

036know funding like this the up and down but there were some districts that have an increased enrollment and so they want their money now right they don't want to have to wait um so I know that there's some um some discussion in Sacramento about having some um possibility of you get to choose the better of the two basically as yeah okay but that doesn't exist right now because we were only down what 60 students this year yeah yeah this year we were down less than uh one percent less than one percent and with the increased Ada attendance didn't we end up not losing any money in terms of that because you'll see that if you read my my lovely as long as we're on this slide still yes so you said that this year we're

037almost at a 95 yes so that two percent or so from where we were prior to covid really makes a big difference millions of dollars in terms of attendance Millions not enrollment but actual attendance of kids okay yep yeah man the worst thing is it affects the funding but not really not the expenditure if we have two percent less attendance we don't spend two percent less for right the South right remember we talk about salaries and benefits and so those stay the same okay I'm gonna move us on thank you for that discussion uh all right we also have um obligations for our pensions system and employees pay in to their pension systems as well but from our financial reporting um that is not that is not part of our financial reporting our financial reporting

038has to do with like in our budget what dollars are we spending toward our pension obligations the stirs employees are are certificated staff and our certificated management and the pers employees are everyone else and um so with stirs there's a maximum that is I think through 2046 um so I think all of you will be off the board and all of us will will likely be retired but um the their rate is capped at 20.25 percent so that's the most um that we would be contributing on top of so if an employee's making a hundred thousand dollars we are contributing nineteen thousand one hundred dollars on top of that into the pension system and they're contributing in addition to that about 10 but in addition to these numbers okay yes um and um and so

039for our purrs our um like CSEA employees our pers rates those are expected to go up and so um this money comes from really our cost of living adjustments like when we get additional money from lcff funding there are obligations come off the top so those obligations are really um step in column increases when employees seniority and experience as well as our other obligations like pensions so if we go up one point six three percent from this year to next year just in the Calpers and employer rate period we've also got step and column yes on top of that that multiplies on top of that exactly and an E coli increases that we do negotiate we pay the those rates on that amount too so a multiplier of a multiplier or multiplier so what my

040office does is we provide to you the board and we provide to our labor Partners in negotiations um what that dollar amount equates to like what like with the cost of living increase and our estimated enrollment here's what we think we'll get additionally next year then we back out and we show we back out step in column obligations we back out increases in pension costs and then we show okay what's left on on the table and we provide that to you the board and again in negotiations as our aggregate step in column ever reduced with early retirements or anything or is it not enough to it moves it but not enough to make it actually go down I believe during the last recession it it may have actually gone it did which is when we

041got in aggregate the world of um reducing the number of work days right we we shorten the school year we we had we took non-paid days okay yeah yeah what what are the assumptions for the Calpers um the increases based on uh it's I will provide that to you in a Friday update okay I'm I'm just curious is is that tied to there's a number of Economics Union is this tied to you know how how okay that's a great question do they is that provided then is it based on these predictions and it's provided all the schools there's a number of economic haters and then they so so when I give you these rates these rates again will change over time but based on so we get it from somewhere yes so um our yes

042and and our advice so there are a number of places that we as a school district can get information whether it's from fickmat um or or School services but we take our advisory and Council from L.A County Office of Education in our assumptions because they're the ones that have to approve our interim reports and our budget do we have to pay for that yeah no good well I mean for getting the information we don't have to pay them for the information we do not okay so now I'm gonna get into the multi-year projection so how do we figure out um how we're doing not only this year but in but in our out years and so the first thing you'll notice is probably a reduction in revenues and I just want to be clear that

043that reduction in revenues is not a result of declining enrollment um it is truly um a reduction in those one-time categorical funds from the state and the federal government um and and um you'll see obviously our expenditures correspond to our revenues so we we don't have fixed costs um at the 136 million dollar level putting us into a deficit spending kind of a situation so that's why um oftentimes you'll hear with Dr Wilde when she does her presentations for various categorical programs um she will talk about how we're funding various programs and it's generally not connected to salaries because when you have one-time funds you don't want to commit to long-term Financial Obligations right so you purchase materials you purchase consultant Services you purchase shorter term remedies rather than committing to long-term employment okay and

044the one the current year 22 23 139.6 million that includes the 6.56 cola and the 6.7 one time and all the other one times yes yes that's the nine and a half million dollar drop is yeah when we don't have that one-time look forward it may come right but it's not and then you'll see it in my future multi-year projections and my future interim reports right but this is our point in time today so um what where I'm going to go with this is the next slide which is really looking at our ending fund balance um so that's our financial positioning so that um that is a an indication of dollars that are available now when you look at 32.4 million dollars that seems like there's a lot of money to be spent but some

045of those dollars like I said before have requirements attached to them so for instance there's 9.3 million dollars this year in our ending fund balance that is categorical so that's not available for like salary negotiations for instance because those dollars are restricted dollars um that have that have strings attached to them um we also have a requirement for maintenance and operations and it's the rule is three percent of your general operating expenditures must be set aside for routine restricted maintenance so that's another four million dollars out of that 32 million and a district R size must maintain a reserve of three percent um so that is a requirement but because the states sound financial circumstance we also have an additional requirement that has been established which means that we can't carry over more than a

04610 percent um maximum Reserve right so it's kind of a fine line between creating a budget and a plan for not having less than three percent but not having more than 10 percent um of a reserve at every financial reporting period so that means not only when we present our budget but when we do our first interim report when we do our second interim report we need to land it between the three percent and the ten percent and so ten percent max we we if we have funds allocated that doesn't fall into that 10 correct okay correct so um so what we did last year is the board committed we did have dollars above the 10 so the board made commitments of those additional dollars in the area of technology in the area of facilities

047uh in the area of vehicle replacement uh worth noting that our measure key Bond dollars that we were using for those projects are just about gone which is why right we're committing some of those funds that way exactly exactly um so you'll see that um this current we're projecting this current um period is an 8.82 reserve and then in the two out years a 9.41 and an 8.55 percent Reserve did we have to dip into any of our reserves spending in the last year we did not thank you so what we have tonight is a request for your board approval of our positive certification we have um will anxiously await the governors May revise in June you will see a presentation both from Ed services and from administrative services around the local control accountability plan

048the budget hearing and adoption and then a an adoption of the state budget by the end of June uh student board member report will be delivered by Rachel foreign is out sick today so she sent me her report which I will try to we should have Charles come deliver oh I know ah Charles he's laughing at me is what he's doing um all right this Friday this Friday Avid has their field trip to Six Flags oh I wish Lauren was still here we could talk to Lauren about that also this Friday is senior picnic at lunch on the auditorium lawn next week is our March Madness tournament at lunch every day ruhs theater is holding their performance of Les Mis on March 24 25 26 and 31 as well as April 1st tickets are ten

049dollars when bought in person and 15 when bought at the door or online our UHS chair is offering the junior Seahawk chair Clinic April 3rd to 5th for all K through 8th grade students 11th graders have Casp testing this week so good luck to them and finally next Wednesday will be the fourth and fifth grade school site Battle of the books competitions good luck to all of the students who have been reading since the start of the year the district Championship battle will be in April okay thank you uh Dr Wesley thank you just once again I want to thank RBF for coming this evening and presenting and for all those that that donate and help you got to see a Clear Vision of how they enhance the programs that we offer tonight I'm here

050to talk a little bit about our Instagram page and encourage folks to follow us on Instagram and um I'm actually don't have any social media but I did figure out how to create an Instagram profile that is not followable just so everybody knows but it allows me to follow the Instagram page that we have stalking us I was talking our district um so I want to encourage others as well to follow the arbios experience and journey I also want to thank Dr Bruna who's been really helping us along with Aaron sugin our photographer to come up with our posts that we have every week but I thought it'd be interesting to share a little bit about Instagram our Instagram page because I'm learning a lot about it just really quickly we advertise programs and activities

051that are happening in real time during that week so when you see a posting it happened that week we're celebrating students that's our main goal what are they doing we also celebrate our teachers and programs that we're really proud of it's a platform to share general information so we're able to do that like when school's out and back to school nights Etc and it's just a visual way to join the journey through rbusd in case you were wondering uh it started in May 15th that's actually my birthday in 2019 so Dr Keller got that started for us we try to post two to three times a week I do approve all the posts before they go up and that's when school's in session so if school's out in session then you may not see a

052post as we currently have 2935 followers so hopefully after this presentation we have a few more each post tends to pick up a handful of followers as others re-share posts like sometimes our foundation folks or others will repost so that helps us and then our follower number has grown but our goal is really to exceed our overall student population which would be over ten thousand some point I just wanted to share some of the things that some of the posts that we've had some recently some a little not so recently so if you follow us you will have a glimpse into classrooms and be able to see student learning and Dr Brennan does help us verify that we have the consents to put pictures up so sometimes you'll you won't be able to identify students

053you can again see students in action so here are you can see when they were posted fairly recently this is this year some of the fun events that we've had at our school sites recently this 2023 what is the day like in rbusd it's kind of fun to see all the things that are going at different schools so if for instance even staff members who aren't able to go to all the school sites you can see what's happening at other schools as well as parents you can see the joy that our students are experiencing some of our fun posts that's for jump rope for heart that we are encouraging and we celebrate staff so we have Casey Waddell our teacher of the year this year's in the middle and she's getting an award one of

054our teachers in a spell over at toleda so we do highlight staff members um and we highlight celebrations and again the far right is a reminder Veterans Day but again celebrating holidays Etc and our Infamous holiday um open house for staff gets posted so those are all of the fun things that we post on Instagram so encouraging everyone to join the journey and sign up I now want to just take a moment to toss it over to Dr Wilde to give you an update on our enrollments as enrollment did begin March 1st yeah so you can see we not only advertise electronically we're old-fashioned banners so if you have driven by the entrance to King Harbor you will see a gigantic double-sided Banner to kind of really remind our families that we are in March

055Madness and it has nothing to do with basketball um so we want to thank Dr Toronto and all of our School site leaders for doing tours and informational nights we've all been going out to preschools to doing talks with families um because as you heard from Dr alpern student numbers matter um so right now we are about two-thirds of the way through March um and we are actually at an all-time high right now for TK we have 149 T cares registered so that is six full classes working on class number seven um and we have a ways to we have a ways to go through August so we're excited to have all of our new students and we're at about 450 kindergartners so we're trying to get up our goal every year is usually right

056around 700 so we're more than halfway there so we're excited the goal for kindergarten is 700. yeah it is thank you Dr Wiles and then one more handoff over to Dr alperin just talk a little bit about our updated covid protocols so many people inquired about the county new County guidelines for covid and um has as we experienced for three years um information was shared to the public generally about changes to requirements that do not yet apply to schools however we were we were pleased to see at least you could see on the banner here that it says the information on this page will be updated to align with the new guidelines so we are planning all of our Communications and updated letters Etc to align to that although we're not able to send those

057out yet the bottom line on it is that when we are able to implement it positive covid cases whether it's staff or students they'd be able to come back to school or work after day five of covid as long as they're fever free for 24 hours and or no mild or in and or and no or mild improving symptoms so there won't be a negative test required to come back positive cases of covid um would still need to wear a mask for 10 days but if they have two negative tests taken a day apart but they don't have to wear a mask and then lastly and the close contacts language about requiring mask wearing and testing in days three and five will change to should instead of required so we're anxiously awaiting the counties guidelines

058and with that follow us at Redondo Beach USD thank you thank you um hearing section uh uh members of the irons May address the board on any topic however due to Brown act regulations we cannot engage in public discussion on items that aren't on the agenda I had one Advance written request Ms Anita everick hello um David um this is coming towards the end of your term and um I won't be here at the next meeting so I wanted to make sure I came tonight I want to thank you you were an amazing person to work with you were amazingly fun to run with and I think what you have accomplished in eight years is terrific you went through the covid which was kind of a let down from the years before where we were

059having so much fun and I think you handled it with Grace and dignity and I want to say thank you so I also want to give you one of these that we made for you that's a former rbusd School Board because um this will the cup sort of reminds you of me and my tea all the time and Ashley made it but um I just I didn't wanted to go by without my saying thank you for all you do thank you so much [Applause] all right um okay any other public comments gifts all right well you have you have you have one more meeting um okay Communications section do we have anyone from rbta who would like to speak okay CSEA aft PTA okay good evening president Witkin members of the board Dr Wesley and

060members of the cabinet um it's been a while since I've been able to come to a meeting so I just wanted to update you all on some stuff that's been going on in our units as I've told you guys in a previous uh board update uh our units have been really focusing on getting back to a sense of normal in their ptas and us being able to be together on campuses again this year has been really amazing in trying to get all of our parent communities kind of back into the habit of what PTA was before kovid shut us all down so one thing that are something that our units have been doing to try to build our sense of community again is they've been holding um Community nights and I wanted to highlight a

061few that have been going on Adams Middle School recently uh held a bu at Adams diversity celebration and it was really an event that was um kind of promoted as come together to celebrate our differences and our commonalities and it was a very um a very strongly attended event we had over 450 participants which is a lot for us especially coming out of a coveted year or out of coveted years where there wasn't people weren't as comfortable coming back onto campus um another thing Jefferson PTA held their first ever diverse or uh not diversity Multicultural night they had over 70 countries and cultures represented within their parent community and they had 400 people attend their event so it's very exciting for us to see that these events are being attended and they're being attended in

062high numbers Paris has their first ever Multicultural night next Thursday March 23rd so if any of you have an opportunity I would say it's I'm based on what we've seen with these other two I would say come out and join us and see what they've got because I would guess that that is going to be another um largely attended event um the other thing that I wanted to bring to your guys's attention was that coming up on April 27th PTA will be hosting our diversity equity and inclusion forum and we are very excited to have secured Miss Natalie Burke who is the CEO and president of common health action so there will be more information to come on that event in the near future but I just wanted to put it all in your brains

063for now and we look forward to seeing her and seeing all of you at our events thank you so much General consent does anyone have any items they would like to pull okay uh may get a motion in second to approve 10.1 through 10.4 so moved all those in favor say aye aye Motion in second to discuss 12.1 still moved Dr alpern please adopt the second interim financial report should we have a discussion yeah it's questions okay all those in favor say aye aye motion and second to discuss 12.2 so moved is this also Dr Auburn Dr Stephanie yeah so this is an mou with CSU Dominguez Hills and if approved this mou will formalize the terms of our class classified employee or School employee grant that was awarded to rbusd by the state of

064California to help our classified employees 12 of them each year go back to school to earn a teaching credential and would reimburse up to 4 800 per year that they go back to school questions are we going to fill all those is there a waiting list now or we have 12 spots and we'll see what our interest is tomorrow okay so once we approve it as my next question it'll go out to staff because this is an amazing opportunity thank you Dr Wesley for submitting it and thank you Dr Stephanie for implementing it basically it gives a way for us to bring teachers from our classified pool with a scholarship essentially absolutely that's awesome just like we give our students opportunities we can give our staff opportunities I think that's wonderful um you know with

065more growth the better definitely an Instagram post I think okay um all those in favor say aye aye Motion in second to discuss 12.3 second Dr Stephanie all right so following uh the covet pandemic we've seen a rise in uh behaviors in students it needs to be supported with uh Behavior Analysis and so this position of behavior Specialists will help coordinate the efforts of our intensive behavior in interventionists we have 13 of those across the district to help them support students in the classroom with these behaviors that we're seeing so they can access their curriculum questions or comments so we have 13 behavior interventionists and this would be somebody sort of to manage them coordinate yes coordinate okay all right all those in favor say aye aye aye motion and second to discuss 12.4 so

066much it's Dr Wesley yes that's me um so 12.4 is a proposal that would allow us to work with leading resources Incorporated to create a three-year strategic plan the proposal includes several Services the development of a survey that all stakeholders would have access to a board Workshop to set up priorities based on feedback from that survey as well as governance training and protocol set sorry protocol setting they would do two Community workshops whereas again Community can give input on a strategic plan draft and then they would they would also assist us with the draft or the Strategic plan and so the proposal is attached you may note that it would be paid out of our effective educator Grant which is one-time funding and the amount is a not to exceed amount and so the recommendation

067would be for staff to staff recommends that you approve this proposal so that we can begin this process is there a kind of timeline for this there's no dates in here do we have an idea of when this would get kicked off yes so back to approval it starts tomorrow or actually um we have a meeting scheduled for Friday assuming it's approved so I can start mapping that out so they know that we would like to have the cert ideally their survey up before spring break that's the hope that was the reason why I tried to get on this agenda and then to have the draft of the survey done at least before the end of the school year along with those workshops and then the bring a draft to the board to either approve

068prior to summer or after summer but that's the general timeline and I'll have more details in my Friday update after I meet with them Friday and lri is the one that worked with the city of Redondo as well is that correct yes the past couple of years that's correct the reference came from our city manager and they've worked with our city for a couple of years and that that I met with the senior facilitator and we've attached his resume so he's got a lot of experience in doing all of these the surveying as well as the strategic planning and the priority setting which is why we recommend going with him the budget source is effective educator Grant can you just explain what that is I like Dr Wells to explain so the effective educator Grant

069is one-time funding um that was designed in order to really kind of partner with a lot of these learning recovery um the state realized that in addition to helping districts provide supports for students that staff including classified includes certificated teachers as well as certificated management to kind of increase their skills and knowledge and this would fall under one of those allowable expenses how much was that Grant total I can put re put in my Friday I believe it was over three million dollars but I can double check okay is that gone now or is that done no that's primarily it's it was meant to be spread out over five years so a good chunk of it was to provide training for all of our elementary teachers in the new Ela adoption but we have several

070different areas um it was all it's also being used I apologize more than three million um because we're also using it to offset some of the PD days over five years too so we can offset the general fund but the opportunity to apply for it that's done it was we didn't have to apply it was automatically awarded to school okay so that's part of that funding that you showed that when we saw the drop in Revenue that was all the one-time money that we received the back of my head was spinning for why can't get this yeah Dr Wesley can you talk a little bit more about how comprehensive this is meaning the community workshops because I think that that's important for people to understand definitely um so it's going to be an undertaking the

071idea is that all Community all stakeholders and when we say stakeholders we mean students staff members all staff regardless of classification and our families and within the community would have an opportunity to complete a survey to share things that they think we're doing well areas in which they think we should focus on areas in which they think we should improve and then this consultant would take all of that information and provide us a concise report that would help us understand the feelings of our stakeholders and the areas they believe we should focus on as we would also focus on what we believe the needs of the district are and we can look at our data as well so with that they would then meet they would be conducting a workshop with our board we could

072look all over this information and prioritize based on the feedback from this from the stakeholders and then from that they would help us draft a plan that would have actionable goals and measurable outcomes over the course of three years and those goals would be focused like on academic achievement post-secondary preparedness social emotional learning and then once we have a draft we would then conduct two Community workshops and invite the community members against students staff and families to come we would email the draft and they can come and give input and then the facilitators would come out and capture the input and help us refine the plan tweak it you know based on feedback and again what our priorities are and then after all the feedback is being given we the team would come together and

073finalize the plan and present it at a board meeting for approval and adoption to begin the 23-24 school year this is something people outside of the school district but Redondo Beach taxpayers are a part of or would they just be hearing about it in updates from board meetings I'm sorry I don't understand the question so meaning and if you're in Redondo Beach and you're not a member like you don't have a child in school are they considered a stakeholder in this or they just updated on what they would be updated so the survey would go to any student employee or a family member that would be a part of our list serve any alumni uh that could be considered yeah that can be considered I mean that's part of the planning meeting with this with

074this um lri okay any other questions comments um these besides lri did you look at other resources oh yeah thank you are you asking that is this the one that you're recommending yes based on that yes um so I did ask local districts and um others who they could recommend we are working with a retired superintendent who would be able to meet with us in terms of governance training and helping us develop a strategic plan I've met with a company that does that would do the survey part and they could also do polling Etc to get all of the information from the stakeholders and they would give us what's called a strategic communication plan but they don't create a strategic plan and then there's um another um retired superintendent who's worked with um and Leadership

075Associates who also could do strategic planning but the reason why I recommend working with leadership sorry leading resources and corporate is because they do all of these Services as opposed to us working with a couple of vendors because none of those three vendors would be able to or Consultants would be able to do all of the surveying the Workshops the and helping us with the plan and so I thought it would be important to have one person who would be a part of that entire process and the board will also get to work with them to refine what the Redondo process is absolutely so this is just engaging them I think that's part of a lot of the beginning work we could figure out yeah that's part of The Proposal okay all those in favor

076say aye aye um information items Dr alpern this is an example of what I was talking about this is a comparison of last year's attendance in January which we know there was a huge spread of covid last January and really impacted our attendance in particular the first two weeks of January it got better um but still it took a good four weeks to get back to quote unquote normal and then the um the darker line the Blue Line dark deeper purple line is this year's attendance so much stronger and hopefully it remains that way okay moving on to discussion items received for first reading the following board policies and review of administrative regulations um which we have in a PDF so so does anyone have any questions or comments yeah and a couple of the

077board bylaws get down to those they're way at the bottom it's not scrolling real fast here last stages yeah it's taking a minute to scroll down to it meeting conduct the what as a meeting conductor the agenda one caught my eye because we had that's a bring back from last August I think is when it was page 217 I think so we had a discussion on the wording and it was basically ended with being or it wouldn't come back it was my memory on it I went back and watched the video on it so I'm wondering why this is back on we pulled this one last time last August but we were we were going to bring it back but I don't think we made the changes or discussed it because it's the same as

078it was right back in August 22 so maybe we just pull it again but I think we have to make a concerted effort to to get it done this time before uh well the key thing would be I think because do we need to make these changes because these are changes from the csba boilerplate right and what's what's driving that for I guess us in this case yeah so I don't have the context that you may have and so if this time if you want to pull it I can investigate that context and have a better understanding of other than the board meeting why it was pulled and um because csba so yeah so this is part of the csba recommended changes um I don't know the green and the red are proposed changes by

079RB USD to the csba right correct correct SBA telling us they're recommending these changes and we're talking about 9322 correct yes okay so for 9322 specifically these changes were made by leadership yes so we can pull this yes okay and then while we're on it is it brought to my attention have we ever used that first paragraph that requests shall be submitted in writing so any request for an agenda I don't recall ever having done that I think we should bring 9322 back as a discussion item yeah but we can I was just trying to get a couple things and just do it right yeah yeah until you overall just hit that one individually maybe and hash it out and is that okay yeah so when an item is pooled then it would come back

080as an action item in which you would have the ability to discuss and vote on whether or not you would approve it okay okay can we do that for 9322 yes yeah and then the other one that caught my eye I guess in general I think Dr Wilds you were the one that went through the one for special education is there anything that needed to be incorporated in there based upon the recent court decision or is that outside of the scope of that number seven it's way up the bigger beginning I don't want to scroll all the way back up there but in general was there anything from that recent court decision that needed to be incorporated into these so it's outside of that okay that that covers it enough and then I'm on page

081210 is that the one yeah 210 of the PDF document which is which board policy bylaw 9220 um where Dr Wesley I believe you went in and attempted to clarify this to coincide with what really happens in Redondo correct on page 210 I believe we need to strike the wording for 400 and keep the 200 because I believe the city of Redondo and Raymer you just went through this is it still 200 words for a candidate statement it was when I ran yeah and we don't want to conflict with whatever they say yeah that's right okay so 9220 needs to be amended based on the city cities guidelines yeah right which is 200 words so basically unstrike the 200 portion of it and strike the 400 portion excuse me and I think that would take

082away that potential that conflict under option two 400 words yes it'd be 200 words yeah 400 is not correct what's allowed we don't want 400. okay so that one would be pulled and amended for the next amended meeting I think we could ask that one based upon that modification and keep it in here if we want I'm fine with that because there wasn't that would be more anything else or you captured that it's at large key aspects um there's more coming on this in general but for now the next lines I believe with that one change from 400 to 200. okay so make that change we I think we would approve as a bad amendment to it do we have to have a separate motion to amend it or do we take care of that

083at the next meeting this is a meeting this is just this is no approval for just amending it it'll be amended when you go to approve it at the next meeting because it I think we require two readings yes yeah so this is first reading the second reading would come um trying to think if there's those are the two key ones that caught my eye and again these are a ton of work I know how these get split up but even for the individuals that have to go through these Susan I know you do a but monster tip right there yeah Dr wild and Dr Stephanie were the winners of this match I really really appreciate the green and the red in the way that has come to play out over the last two years

084and makes it really helpful yes no that's Kudos too it is for getting them all together the one key thing that still used to happen is we we used to see changes compared to current policy we no longer see that that would be a manual look but what we see is if csba has gone through this and vetted it all that's really where need we need to head with the exception of individualized things where there's two or three options and like you did with the choose the ones that fit our case and that still takes and that the green and red makes that really easy to spot so so Dr Weil's policy 6146.1 High School graduation requirements the board policy that we have regarding High School graduation reports it is that now we will now

085have to have four courses in English not three courses in English we've always had four courses that's an example of the state requires three but rbusd has always had the requirement for four and we just hadn't updated our policy until now no it's just automatically when csba produces this it automatically defaults that's what Mr policy does say the four that this is where you oh so this is an example so Mr stretzenberg's Point what staff do is we compare old to new we go word for word for word old school old school um so when you see something like this it's not this would be an example of keeping in alignment of current board policy so we would have to read in the current board policy with this in order to know because I saw

086that same thing and I thought no we require four years we do a lot of work there's uh AI tools like chat GPT that'll do this for you pretty easily too if anyone wants to use them okay next time I don't think we want board policies created by chance well just for finding deltas uh and then in 6178 I don't remember the language ever being in there about the academies is that something new and as it just simply doesn't apply it just doesn't we've never had it and so that's why it was it was struck here um that is that language is for districts who have had academies since we've never have it doesn't apply to us what is an academy it's a great question it's a great question and we'll just leave it at

087that yep okay we have other things any other discussion close this item does anyone have any correspondence they would like to share all right board member reports Ms Flynn um I actually and Dr Toronto attended the meeting of the South Bay Coalition Community Coalition against hate sbcc ah Hildy Stern in Manhattan Beach formed this committee and it's now we've got two pages of people who have joined it's um The Manhattan Beach School District City officials from Hermosa El Segundo Manhattan uh Redondo American Martyrs the county um several faith-based organizations assembly member Holly Mitchell Al murasucci's office The Lifeguard Association it's basically a if you saw the MB versus hate signs that were put up in that campaign last year that's something that came out of this committee that Hildy Stern put together she's now expanding

088it to the other South Bay communities and is looking uh just as a shared resource and Dr Toronto is going as well and I know has shared some of that here to see what we can use and also to hear from our best practices of what we're already doing to educate our community on it so um just I'll be attending it's a monthly session and I'll bring back updates as appropriate if anybody has any questions Reach Out okay Mr stratzenberg I'll go last year 50th I've got quite a bit from scratch update on if that's okay okay Mr uh Elder sir I've got a few too um so uh we had an election recently the unofficial results from three seven were that out of 7057 votes counted Raymer Flynn has 3839 votes young Cho has

0893741 votes and Jerome Chang has 3293. the final round of votes will be announced at noon on March 16th that includes all those ballots dropped off on the on the election day as well as everything that came in the mail and was postmarked by election day and the so final certification will also be on March 21st but as of Monday there were still more than 3 600 balance that had not been counted um going back it's been updated by the way they only counted 36 today so they got through all of those okay excellent um I talked to Eleanor yesterday that was the latest I got so excellent um also going back to the budget proposal which we've been hearing about the governors per budget uh csba is working hard to continue to advocate for

090a higher lcff base rather than these restricted categorical funds because as we've all seen those categorical funds are difficult to use sometimes and we don't always get them so that's something we'll continue to advocate for and that also ties into this week which is csba's legislative action week so tomorrow I'll be meeting with assembly member meritsuchi the released his office the next day was Senator Ben Allen and there are three big priorities that csba is pushing this time one is assembly Bill 1023 this is uh for increased cyber security support for districts and it's something we all really badly need because we are not ready and we're not funded and we don't have the resources so that's something you know this is actually what I do for my day job so I'll be advocating for

091that one as well Senate Bill 645 is to help small school districts achieve this administrative teacher ratio cap fix that because when you're a small school district that's difficult and then assembly Bill 906 it's a sustainable program serving at promise students in county office run schools so those other two don't apply to us as much but that first one certainly would help a lot of us another one outside of csba the e-bike safety group that's been meeting with local school boards as well as City officials Beach Cities Health District there is a bill Senate Bill 381 it's an e-bike safety study sponsored by Senator David Min in the 37th district there is a hearing date set for March 28th in Sacramento if we want to submit anything written it's be kind of quick for us

092I just found out about this today but we can Advocate individually or I can send that more information on that but it's really just to study the safety because there's a lot of problems we face right now such as we don't have data on e-bike accidents because the state doesn't collect information separately for bikes versus e-bikes and before we even look at legislative Avenues we really want to have good data on what is the issue What's the magnitude of it you know who's it affecting so this would be a good way of getting some information on that and uh would you prefer that we write individual letters as board members or do you want to try and get us to write something as a board I just it came at four o'clock as I'm on

093the same committee as he is for e-bikes yeah so maybe I can make that as a optional future board meeting agenda item but it's you know a tight turn around so um yeah you wrote something you could bring it to yes you could write something for us to discuss and approve at the next meeting but isn't this like just the hearing on the 28th it is so that's that's when is our next meeting our next meeting is not 28th yeah oh well so if people want to Advocate individually um they certainly can um but yeah but that's my legislative updates other than that everything's going great and really appreciate the work everyone's doing our students are you know moving forward things are going Full Speed Ahead thank you Ms Nemeth try to get her done

094less than five minutes wait I'll go first okay I thought you didn't know um so I along with Dr Wesley um Dr Wiles and Dr Bruna had the privilege to attend the schools to watch conference this past week Thursday and Friday um which is a brand new um I don't know I want to say Club but it's a brand new organization that rbosd has become a part of through Adams being recognized as a school to watch um and it's focused solely on middle schools so this was a great conference where you're really just jumping into Middle School issues mostly academics I would say some SEL um but besides the fact that we had no power for the majority of the conference um we still managed for the main conference room there was a generator um

095the smaller rooms were dark and cold but you know we adapt and um it was just a really great time and we get information from the schools that literally they will hand you a packet of tools that you can copy and use and so that's why I say it was like a club because you're really now part of this system and the support they're going to provide for us for atoms in Paris I think is just Priceless so I'm looking forward to it already for next year and I thought there was a lot of information to be gained so thank you for who sponsors the school to watch it's their own organization Schools to Watch under the California Department of Education I believe yeah just California or is it nationwide so we're invited to Washington

096DC if we want to on behalf of our California nomination so you know this was just California and then if we wanted to just like with csba you have the option to go to the National right Mr stretzenberg I have two minutes last night SoCal Rock board meeting was last night a lot is going on there um it was only three hours which was actually fairly short for SoCal Rock they tend to go quite long there's a lot going on so superintendent search is launched and we approve the leadership profile last night and that'll get posted along with the postings are on edgeway and I think a couple other places as well as going out to the candidates that already applied we will select the final candidates for interview on April 3rd and then the

097in-person interviews will be on 8 April 15th and we'll make a decision after that big thing last night the board finally approved the fees to increase for our jpa district students from what was 1234 per student per course to now 15 30. it had been since 2015 2016 school year that that was last updated so quite a few years ago a lot of discussion on that a lot of back and forth we felt that that was appropriate it was passed unanimously and that will be communicated out all the to all the jpa superintendents along with that concurrently a separate item but concurrently we'd also increase the adult fees by a hundred dollars across the board which ranges roughly from 10 to 20 but those were increased back in 2021 I believe so much more recently

098they had seen I believe a 200 increase but appropriate to get those bumped up at the same time in general we also reviewed the interim budget last night unlike ours SoCal rockers running at a deficit it's currently about three quarters of a million for the year for us that would not be a big deal for them their annual spend is only about 4 million so that's a big deal uh we're working on that that's part of what the fee increases are about a lot of things going on there we also as we looked at tonight I got the board to agree last night we're going to start our own three-year strategic plan and we may consider lri for doing that with um SoCal rocket as well so we'll be proceeding with that and want to

099get that kicked off in May so that we can have it started before the new superintendent starts on July 1 but wrap it up when they're in place and then we come some of the other things going on the superintendent searches uh as I said that's a really big thing for us creating a strategic plan is now being set forth we'll be looking at forming some new courses we're finding new corporate Partners we've reestablished an ed Foundation it's just getting started maybe look for some help or in guidance from our own Ed foundation for that but realize it's not just Redondo it's all the all six of our districts that can uh in the whole Community can be a part of that um we want to look towards getting more Grant monies there's a lot

100more out there I reached out to a grant specialist and uh will be meeting with her um also um there's some more senior staff that will be leaving in the future we'll be looking to replace those where you need to rewrite the joint Powers agreement that's the basic document that created SoCal Rock and needs to be updated I'm almost there um we are putting I'm putting together an RFP to find new legal counsel our legal counsel retired it was an individual and we're going to look to use a firm I'm about probably more than halfway through that getting that finalized about a 13-page document I'm writing for that um and then we also have to establish a facilities use committee which Redondo did back in 2008 Dr Alfred was able to pull that up recently

101and it still is in place for example for friendship Foundation the Friendship Center that just went into the Franklin site that was covered under that 2008 committee but by Ed code law you have to have that committee so we'll be relying upon some of the things that were done at Redondo and other districts to help formulate our own um the we have an Ambassador High School there um uh a charter school and they're looking they are three years into their current five-year lease they're looking for a long term so that's why we need to form this committee uh we didn't have in the past unknowingly so we're doing it right now to get that done but so considering that and that is enough for now we will like I said we'll meet again on April

1023rd um to down select the finals candidates for superintendent but a lot going on there it's really exciting to see the things that are happening there the changes the support we're getting from the superintendents of all the partner districts is great um oh last night there was a Redondo student that was our we do student voices that are board meetings when almost everyone but not everyone if I say the name wrong I apologize Tavon wanke I believe is how it's pronounced he's taken welding there he was so poised and put together and answered the questions and then we were just all stunned that he was a sophomore uh because he came across as like a senior and he's lit level four in the uh segment four of the welding already uh just weirdly Redondo was

103well represented with him I'd like to get him and maybe a couple others here again like we did uh not too long ago and have them speak you know as to their experiences with SoCal Rock I'll stop there thank you okay I have no report calendar of events an export meeting is March 28th followed by April a special board meeting for swearings in uh April 5th and then spring recess April 10th through 14th does anyone have any future agenda items or information to request okay Motion in second to adjourn so moved all those in favor say aye aye meeting is adjourned foreign
